The Angelic Reformation: John Dee, Enochian Magick & the Occult Roots of Empire

Rate this book
Dr. John Dee, Queen Elizabeth I’s court advisor, was the foremost scientific genius of the 16th century—promoting mathematics and astronomy, and laying the foundation of modern science. He also made advances in navigation and optics that would put England on the map as the foremost imperial power in the world—Dee, who signed his letters to Elizabeth “007,” even invented the idea of a “British Empire.”So why have we never heard of this crucial figure in the history of science and geopolitics? Because Dee spent the second half of his career attempting to construct a religious and scientific method for contacting angels. With the help of a disreputable, criminal psychic named Edward Kelley, he succeeded—spending ten years communing with beings he believed to be the very angels and archangels of God, who gave him the keys to Enochian, the language that mankind spoke before the fall from Eden. But that was only the start—the angels would use Dee and Kelley as agents to establish a New World Order that they hoped would dominate the entire globe. The Angelic Reformation is the truly stranger-than-fiction story of a man who dared to storm heaven—a tale of high magick and high adventure in Elizabethan times. This short but information-packed ebook provides an overview of Dee’s life and Work, piecing together the many activities of one of the most aberrantly intelligent men of the second millennium—and the plan of the angels themselves to reform humanity.

A well researched, proper account of Enochian Magick

Jason Louv has done an amazing job recounting the stories of John Dee, Edward Kelly, Mathers, Crowley, and the Enochian Magick system which ties them all together.

I appreciate not only the scholarly approach that Louv has taken in his well documented research, but also his own insights, and notes on material I found to be equally revealing, and thought provoking.

Louv has an uncanny knack for tying together documented fragments of history and research into a comprehensive flow that any average reader will be able to follow without being lead astray. Louv presents the events and materials in proper order which allows for readers to easily observe the links and influences that the topic has in accord with his claims.

If you want to better understand the history of Enochian Magick, the roots of modern western occultism and the birthing of the orders, groups and institutes which thrive now in connection with the strange experiments taken by two men who sought to work with beings of religious legend, and by doing so triggered events and waves of notions that have yet to cease in the making of occult teachings to this day, then look no further than this impressive gem of esoteric research.

I recommend it to "serious students of the occult". Though the beginner or new seeker may be able to pull some value of the knowledge presented in this book, it is better suited to ones who have a keen interest and seasoned understanding Magickal studies and the history of it's root teachings.

I read this because I wanted to learn more about John Dee without wading through the Wikipedia page. On that point it was certainly invaluable, although there was one chapter devoted to his scientific advancements and six on the topic of his attempts to communicate with angels. Oculist activities aside, Dee was a remarkable man who may be responsible for helping to shape the modern world.

The language of Angels

An informative and enjoyable journey to a dimly perceived European era and an opening into an alternate view of history. A succinct and fun biography for those interested in the lives of influential occult personalities.

A very concise introduction to John Dee that goes through the mage/scientist/royal adviser’s life, achievements, and influence. Dee is a fascinating & enigmatic figure, and I’m excited to read Jason Louv’s recently released tome on him and his Enochian magick system.

A very good quick introduction into the academic study of Dee. This does not take the place of a true Dee biography or Frances Yate's "The Rosicrucian Enlightenment" but is a valuable quick access point to a complex field. Louv is scholarly without being pedantic and obviously knows his stuff. Highly recommended.
