Things couldn’t be better for Rue Kessler. He just married the mother of his eight-year-old son, Montana, and finally has the family he’s always dreamed of. Not only that, his father-in-law hired him to be the new construction supervisor on a big condo project. He’s been sober for eighteen months. He’s finally plugged in at church. And he’s building his wife Ivy the house she’s always dreamed of. Life is good.
Then with no warning, Rue and his wife and son become the target of someone’s cruel and frightening attacks. What reason would anyone have to dash their hopes and dreams? What will it take to stop it? What defense is there against an enemy he can’t see?
While Rue’s head is still reeling, a man on his work crew is found half dead in Tanner Canyon. Are the attacks related? Is someone trying to put a stop to the condo project? Or is something more sinister afoot–something that will take all the faith he’s got to confront?
Best-selling suspense novelist Kathy Herman has written twenty novels—including the Secrets or Roux River Bayou Series, Sophie Trace Series, the Seaport Suspense Series, and the Phantom Hollow Series—since retiring from her family’s Christian bookstore business. She and her late husband Paul have a blended family of three grown children. Kathy lives in the Northwest.
This has been the first Kathy Herman book that I have read, but I look forward to reading more, even backtracking and reading the first two books of the series. Although I felt that the book was a bit drawn out, having already figured out the who did it here, there, and everywhere, what I most appreciated was how Herman showed how our sin can lead us into big trouble, and also how the innocence of children sometimes shows we adults how to manage through difficult situations. Herman wrote a story with some very strong characters, so I especially look forward to reading more about Ivy and Montana in the precious stories.
Lastly, I counted one star off for editing purposes as there were well over thirty instances where either punctuation or spelling typos were problematic. I'm really surprised that Herman's editor didn't catch these, but hopefully they will fix the problems on this Kindle version.
Third and final book in the series... had to give it 4 stars. Reason is I felt like Ivy in this book was bit too much. Constantly crying over the way her brother treated her. I can see it was hurting to her feelings but she constantly engaged with him and every time he made her upset and crying. I think for her character she let her brother walk all over her. Also, it constantly repeated throughout the book about Ivy's past drug habit. I felt it to be a bit redundant. I didn't feel like it constantly needed to be brought up if you have already read the other two books.
Other then that I did enjoy the story line in this final book.
Rue and Ivy Kessler have overcome substance abuse issues and estrangement from their families to find Jesus- and each other. They're newlyweds and life is going well. Unfortunately for them, some people can't stand for them to be happy and will do what they can to ruin it.
All Rue wants is to love and provide for his wife and the son he didn't know he had until recently, but a string of incidents at the construction site where he works as project manager and at the home of his in-laws threatens everything he's worked so hard to gain
This is a good story about how far we can fall and how Jesus can lift us back up- if we will only let Him.
This is the 3rd and final book in the "Phantom Hollow" series. I wasn't sure I would continue the series after reading the first book. It was very predictable but I still thought about after finishing it. I decided to read the second and I felt the same way. Predictable but couldn't put it down.
"The Grand Scheme" was my favorite of the three and I am a little sad the series is over because I really enjoyed the characters. The end of the book had some good reminders about why you should forgive others.
Fantastic ending to the series. Everything gets wrapped up, although I have to say I could read about this family forever! Kathy Herman has a way of bringing the Lord's grace and convictions of the Holy Spirit w/o being preachy. I absolutely adore everything I've read from her.
I really liked this book. Rue and Ivy are quite the pair and though it seems impossible that they could ever get together, 'God does work in mysterious ways'. There was just enough mystery, romance, and family drama in the book to keep me glued to it to finish in one sitting
I haven't read the previous two in Phantom Hollow series. This one came randomly to me. If you have any grudge or envy against someone, do read this book. Kathy Herman has laid out perfectly, how the gift of forgiveness can do magic in our lives.
Intense! A page turner! An awakening! A great tale! This book had me wanting to read through out the night. I didn't want to set it down. It was well written, there were a lot of twist and turns, and though some of it may be predictable, not all of it will be.
A quick read, but very involving mystery! I like this author. Read the books in order by the series, since all of the characters are developed throughout the series.
This was a great ending to a great series. I really enjoyed the storyline of this book and how Kathy Herman finished all the characters and storylines. I recommend this ook and series.
