Wild at HeartAfter Annie Harper's world shattered four years ago, taming horses became her salvation. But when Brett Corrigan hires her to capture the wild mustang that's stealing his mares, Annie's passion is ignited by the masterful rancher, sweeping through her like wildfire. Brett never expected the legendary Annie to be a beautiful woman with a boldness that arouses his desire as much as it does his temper -- or a hidden vulnerability he's helpless to resist. But he's wagered his lifetime dreams on the ranch he won with a turn of the card, and he's not about to let this troublesome craving get in his way. As they track the rogue stallion across the Texas badlands, battling the forces of man, nature, and their own stubbornness, will Annie trust Brett with her heart -- and will Brett decide that Mustang Annie is worth the greatest gamble of all?
3.5 stars rounded up to four. A good, but not great, romance. Not enough chemistry to make it a solid four. A bit of a change to have the heroine be the horse thief (although not of her own choosing).
This wasn't at all what I expected - a Western that stands the test of time.
The gritty heroine is written with care and empathy, and the hero might be a stern rancher, but he's all gooey cinnamon roll where she's concerned. The heroine's tragic past, her very real struggle with intimacy because of assault and the death of the love of her life, are all rendered with emotional sensitivity. The character development was phenomenal, and the push and pull between the main characters was believable and justified.
Mustang Annie is a notorious former horse thief who gave up a life of crime to settle on her grandfather's ranch with her Native American husband, Sekoda. Their marriage lasted only a year before it was destroyed by demons from their past.
In the last four years, Annie has tried to bury her grief as she buried her husband, always on the move to escape the bounty on her head.
Brett Callaghan might appear unruffled, but underneath his cavalier exterior is a man who cares deeply. When a rogue wild stallion known as Blue Fire starts stealing Brett's Arabian breeding stock, he sets out to find the best horse catcher in the business.
His queries lead him to Annie and he is drawn to her sarcasm, her gruffness and the sadness in her eyes.
This love story had so much healing and tenderness in it! It's a slow burn, hard-won happily ever after that will stick with me for YEARS.
Annie Harper's whole world was destroyed four years ago. Working with and domesticating horses became her redemption. She is a strong heroine and reading her story will tug at your heartstrings.
Brett Corrigan, a rancher with a problem, hires her to capture the wild mustang that's stealing his mares. Leery of each other at first, they slowly bring out deep feelings that complete who they are. Brett never expected to find a woman whose vulnerability pulled at his buried emotions. While watching Annie share her 'gift' his remoteness changes to fascination, then becomes a deep yearning.
Together they battle the forces of both nature and man. Will Annie lower her guard and share with Brett what happened long ago? Can she forgive herself? Lastly, will Brett reach her in time and show her how much she means to him and can Annie love again? Read their story and find out.
He stole his horses, now Brett was going to get them back. It made sense ( at least to Brett ) you needed a thief to catch a thief. He heard about Mustang Annie. A legendary horse woman and a .com person. He tracked her down. Annie wasn't interested in his offer, until her life took another downward trend. She needed the money. A very good story with characters you learn to love .
Willful, belligerent heroine until the very end. Coupled with a pathetic, pussy whipped hero made this a total skimfest. Oh, yeah, and the most underwhelming epilogue ever. With only one and a half pages why even bother.
