Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, better known as Vladimir Lenin, was a Russian revolutionary, leader of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party (Bolsheviks), statesman and political theorist. After the October Revolution he served as the first and founding head of government of Soviet Russia from 1917 until his death in 1924 and of the Soviet Union from 1922 until his death in 1924.

Κάποτε πήγα στον Ιλίτς και βλέπω στο τραπέζι έναν τόμο του βιβλίου Πόλεμος και ειρήνη.
–Μάλιστα, ο Τολστόι! Ήθελα να διαβάσω τη σκηνή του κυνηγίου, μα να που θυμήθηκα ότι πρέπει να γράψω σε έναν σύντροφο. Δεν έχω καθόλου καιρό να διαβάσω. Μόλις σήμερα τη νύχτα διάβασα το βιβλιαράκι σας για τον Τολστόι.
Χαμογελώντας και μισοκλείνοντας τα μάτια τεντώθηκα με απόλαυση στην πολυθρόνα και χαμηλώνοντας τη φωνή συνέχισε:
–Τι όγκος, ε! Τι μεγάλος άνθρωπος! Να αυτός είναι, αγαπητέ μου, καλλιτέχνης... και ξέρετε ποιο είναι ακόμη το πιο καταπληκτικό; Μέχρι αυτόν τον κόμητα, ο πραγματικός μουζίκος στη λογοτεχνία δεν υπήρχε.
Μετά κοιτάζοντάς με με μισοκλεισμένα μάτια ρώτησε:
–Ποιον μπορούμε να βάλουμε δίπλα σ' αυτόν στην Ευρώπη;
Ο ίδιος απαντησε:
–Κανέναν.
