Rasetsu is taken aback by Kuryu's kiss, especially because she likes Yako. But between Yako's inability to let go of his old love Yurara and her own curse in the way, can Rasetsu even confess her true feelings?
Chika Shiomi has an amazing talent for depicting chilling and provocative horror stories that appeal to both shojo and shonen readers. Having created manga since 1993, starting with short stories in Akita Shoten's Mystery Bonita magazine, she has had a bountiful career of publishing both long-running series and short stories that have become popular both in Japan and abroad. Shiomi-sensei loves to travel and listen to Guns 'n Roses.
Today’s post is on Rasetsu, Vol. 5 by Chika Shiomi. It is 200 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has Rasetsu and Kuryu on it. As it is the fifth in the series you need to have read the first four volumes to understand the story. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild violence in this volume. He intended reader is someone who likes horror-comedy manga with a side of romance. The story is told from third person close of mostly Rasetsu but sometimes other character as needed for plot. There Be Spoilers Ahead.
From the back of the book- Rasetsu is taken aback by Kuryu's kiss, especially because she likes Yako. But between Yako's inability to let go of his old love Yurara and her own curse in the way, can Rasetsu even confess her true feelings?
Review- Kuryu has made his move and Rasetsu is reeling from it. She had no idea but over the course of the volume she realizes that she did know and she lets him down easy because she is still trying to deal with her feelings for Yako, who is still in love with ghost Yurara. Ah, shojo romance. But we get some good plot details about the evil spirit that is haunting Rasetsu and that the boss of the company has fought with him before and lost badly. But in the end Rasetsu decides to tell Yako about her feelings and we have another cliffhanger with another kiss. This is a fun series with silly shojo drama to balance the darker elements. I look forward to seeing what Yako is going to do now that Rasetsu has told him the truth, more drama I’m sure!
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
It's been a while since I've read any type of shojo manga and I always forget that they're full of drama with a capital D. And not the good kind either, you know that helps the plot along, No, we get the dumb kind in the form of Kuryu.
We finally hit 5 stars! ✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧ Still not feeling Kuryu, but the Chief, Aoi, and Rasetsu nailed their roles here and Yako got what he deserved ( (。•̀ᴗ-)✧ wink) in the end.
(I got tired of not knowing what I was missing so I looked up some stuff on Yurara and feel like that helped me connect to a few characters a little better. If it wasn't out of print I'd buy it. Maybe I'll look around on the used sites...it's 5 books...)
Another wonderful, though ever so creepy volume in this series!
So most of this volume is taken up by this strange curse over this pregnant woman, and at first I was like yeah, yeah, Rasetsu and Gang gonna take this shit demon/ghost out!
BUT IT GOT SCARY!
AND THEN THE DEMON GHOST THING SHOWED UP.
OH DEAR LORD WAS IT SCARY. AND CREEPY. I think I hugged my cat afterward to feel better!
I mean it was a great little arc, but *shivers* this series has some of the freakiest art at times...
Oh and there was some of this!
All in all, this was a good, though slightly scary volume. 5/5["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
like i generally advocate asking before kissing someone but ngl, i was rooting for rasetsu because yako was displaying unreal level of obliviousness
this aint no 'shoujo heroine refuses to be direct in any way' situation, rasetsu straight up told him she liked him, what else could she do at that point
so yeah. come on yako, i miss yurara too but look at the cutie pie in front of you and do some self-examination of your feelings, you might be surprised at what you find
Okay, I'll take Yako. He has decency. Kuryu creeps me out. Like seriously, he plays around too much, but he's creepy. His love for Rasetsu is way over the top.
This has an exponential amount of effective drama for Rasetsu's feelings towards her two possible suitors, especially Yako, and her further coming to terms with her situation.
Now we're getting somewhere! I'm finally starting to really like the characters and want to see what's going to happen in just a year's time. The pressure's on for Rasetsu!
