Ahhh this book!! <3 *sighs happily*

As any of the Kim Vogel Sawyer books I've read, this one was amazing! I grew so close to the characters that I even got annoyed with a couple of them! My favourites? Well, probably Briley and Alexa! ;) Mrs. Sawyer wrote them so well and I could feel all they were going through! Briley is the type of guy I always dream about... *coughs*

I'm really glad Stephen figured out what he was going to do with his life!! So much stress, haha!

I absolutely loved the story-line and I like that it was focused on the Mennonites rather than the Amish (nothing against the Amish at all!!) :)

The Christian aspect of Mrs. Sawyer's books always makes me so happy and I appreciate she includes both spiritual and unspiritual things, and shows the right and wrongs!

If you've never read any of Mrs. Sawyer's books, you should definitely get some and try them out! They're squeaky clean, Christmas fiction books... I recommend all of them - even the ones I haven't read yet!

I couldn’t put When Grace Sings by Kim Vogel Sawyer down. It is an enthralling book that captures the reader’s attention from the very beginning. It is the second book in the Zimmerman Restoration Trilogy and is just as good as the first book. I cannot wait to read the conclusion. I had not previously read this author before delving into the first book but I plan on reading more of her books. The author really knows how to pull you into the character’s lives in such an intimate way that you feel as if you have known each of them most of your life. I won’t forget them soon.

Alexa’s entire life changed when her mother and she went to Arborville her mother’s hometown. She was raised with no family other than her church friends and now she is surrounded by them. While her mother decides to go back to the city, her job, and the life they knew Alexa decides to stay and run a Bed and Breakfast. She has the skills and is very friendly. She wants nothing more than to be accepted in her family and to be successful at her new endeavor. Things get shaken up when Briley Forrester shows up. He needs a place to stay while he is in Arborville and she agrees to let him stay at the Bed and Breakfast. The more time he spends there the more the two of them are drawn to each other and the more it confuses her. Her heart is divided. She is drawn one way and her loyalty lies in another. What will she do? Can she have it both ways? Or will she find she has to choose between family and her heart?

Briley is a news reporter and he is given a story to find some dirt on the Amish. He is convinced he will be able to do so and quickly. He doesn’t believe they live wholesome and as simple of a life as they present to the world. He is sure that there is dirt and secrets hiding just beneath the surface. After all nobody I perfect. When he arrives in Arborville he finds a nice Bed and Breakfast to stay at and he is intrigued by Alexa the girl how runs it. There is something about her that draws him to her but he must not let her distract him from his story. The more time he spends in the community the more frustrating it gets because things seem to be what it seems. When he learns the truth about Alexa her family he may find exactly what he is looking for, but is it really what he wants? The more time he is around Alexa and her family the more he is drawn to her and the community. Will he find there is something more there beyond his story? Or will he leave with the biggest story he has ever had?

I really enjoyed When Grace Sings. I was already invested in the story having read When Mercy Rains. I loved continuing their story and really enjoyed seeing what became of some of the characters. I am looking forward to finding out more when the final book When Love Returns is released. I loved the interaction between Alexa and Briley. I really liked that they both grew and both had things they needed to learn. There were some plot twists that I didn’t expect or see coming and I love it when that happens. It’s very rare for me since I read so much. I would highly recommend When Grace Sings to anyone who enjoys Amish stories, romances, and good reads in general.

When Grace Sings is simply a beautiful, moving and poignant story. I'm the perfect audience for character-driven stories, which is something Kim Vogel Sawyer does extremely well. But even more than the rich characterization, she builds emotion into fascinating storylines and never fails to clearly present the gospel message in a way that flows naturally with the story.

Set in an Old Order Mennonite community in Arborville, Kansas, When Grace Sings is book #2 in The Zimmerman Restoration Trilogy. I regret that I haven't had time to read the previous book, When Mercy Rains, but Kim did such a good job at covering the past that I had no problem reading this book as a standalone. As with any series, however, I recommend reading the stories in order. I also need to mention that, although the ending is satisfying, not everything is wrapped up and there's much to anticipate.

While this narrative flows easily from four different character perspectives, it's really a complex story because of all the relational and life issues brought in - teen pregnancy, adoption, family secrets, guilt, acceptance, following God's will. I loved and could easily relate to all the characters, but it's usually the most flawed character who draws me the most - and that would be the cocky and flirtatious Briley Forrester, a reporter working for a Chicago tabloid who seeks to dispel the world's view of the Amish/Mennonite community and make a name for himself in the process. And then there's Steven, the "good" son who struggles with following the path his father has chosen for him. The two girls, Alexa and Anna-Grace, simply pull at the heartstrings.

Something I especially enjoyed is the spiritual message that Kim so flawlessly weaves into the narrative. The title, When Grace Sings, is beautiful in itself, but the meaning behind it is even more so - the idea of grace, so freely given, combining with Zephaniah 3:17's picture of God rejoicing over us with singing.

This story concludes with several characters still dealing with the effects of long-held secrets. We all know that it's only when they are brought into the light that secrets lose their power, so there is much to anticipate in the next story. I'll end with the thoughts Kim shared in a Litfuse interview when asked what she hoped readers would take away from this story, for she captures the essence of When Grace Sings so beautifully: "God gives second chances. We as humans make our mistakes, we flounder and err and build walls that seem insurmountable. But when we confess our wrongdoings and ask God to redeem us, He brings restoration. It’s NEVER too late for a second chance."

I rate books according to how they affect me, so . . . 5 stars for When Grace Sings. Highly recommended.

Thank you to Litfuse Publicity for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Probably my favourite book by Kim Vogel Sawyer -- and that's saying something since I missed Book 1 in the Zimmeran Restoration Trilogy! Sawyer does an excellent job of infusing the pertinent bits from the first book into this one so there's no confusion. Mind you, my curiosity is piqued and I can't go without reading When Mercy Rains so look for it in a retro Saturday sometime soon.

This is the kind of emotional roller coaster ride I love to read. The author tells the story through multiple viewpoints and that creates a sense of urgency to the read. I could see how everyone interconnects and anticipating the fallout when that happens is pure torturous delight! And fallout did happen, but the author wisely left some for Book 3. So while there is a satisfying resolution to a few threads, she's left her readers eagerly anticipating the grand finale for the rest. And she's done that in such a way that the reader doesn't feel robbed. I hate abrupt cliffhanger endings and this isn't one. She leaves each character solidly planted on the right path so I feel I can leave them untended until September! (When Love Returns release date.)

I think Briley's story made the most impact on me. I really did not like him at first (and he opens the book!) The kind of guy who is too good looking for his own good -- and worse -- knows it! And he's out to prove himself regardless of who he has to step on to do that. Sawyer slowly unravels layers of Briley's past and allows readers a peek at festering hurts that have never healed. My heart couldn't help but soften towards the guy. And I loved how his heart softened after getting to know the Old Order Mennonites community in Arborville.

So many twists and turns. Emotional conflict that left me on tenterhooks for the entire read. Captivating. Exciting. Riveting. But most of all -- hopeful.

This book nearly got four stars. I enjoyed it a lot and want to read more in the series.

I especially liked the parts with Alexa and her grandmother. In fact, right off the bat I can't think of anything about Alexa that I didn't like. There were times when I didn't agree with what she did, and I wanted to knock her over the head, but her character was very believable and relatable.

I also enjoyed Anna-Grace's parts. She was realistic as well and a character who was very content with life, which makes me happy because far too often characters aren't content.

Steven was one character who I really didn't like. He made me want to knock some sense into his head because he had that fatal (in my book) flaw: He didn't communicate. When people don't communicate it drives me totally crazy... But, I guess if every fictional person communicated then about half of the books in the world would only be a chapter or two long.

There was romance in the book, but I felt as if it were realistic and not overdone or written in an annoying way. Mostly it focused on other relationships, such as sisters, aunts, etc... And that's what I really appreciated about it.

I'm giving the book 3 out of 5 stars, 7 out of 10.

If you want a good book that will encourage you in your faith this one will do it! I love this author's writing style it flows so beautifully. The title's theme is woven throughout the story. This is book 2 in the series and it picks up right where book 1 leaves off. It had a satisfying ending yet left just enough questions to make me want to pick up book 3 and start it as soon as possible.

Kim Vogel Sawyer in her new book “When Grace Sings” Book Two in The Zimmerman Restoration Trilogy published by Waterbrook Press continues the story of Alexa Zimmerman.

From the back cover: When trouble roars into quiet Arborville, Alexa and Anna-Grace find themselves the target for discord and exposed secrets. Can they continue to seek the God of all grace amidst the fog of confusion?

Alexa Zimmerman wonders if the Old Order Mennonite community in Arborville, Kansas will ever fully accept her. Her family roots here aren’t what anyone thought when she first arrived, but she is hopeful that her culinary and hospitality skills will win the skeptics over. The bed-and-breakfast she’s operating needs to succeed so Alexa agrees to allow Briley Forrester, the hotshot reporter from Chicago, to stay as a long-term boarder not knowing his real motives for being amongst the Plain folk.

But when Alexa agrees to host her cousin Anna-Grace Braun, the presence of extended family brings out Alexa’s insecurities and sets Briley on the trail to uncovering a web of hidden truths.

Plans for a secure future and the sweetness of young romance hang in the balance when Alexa and Anna-Grace have to face that their secrets are interconnected, binding the two in ways they could not have imagined. They must trust in a loving, heavenly Father and His plan for their futures.

Alexa needs the Bed & Breakfast to succeed. Briley needs a major story to keep his newspaper reporter position. Anna-Grace is looking to get married. Steven is very confused about his relationship with Anna-Grace. All these stories are intertwined between the pages of “When Grace Sings”. This is quite a story. The reason for it being so interesting is the characters that Ms. Sawyer has created. I didn’t read the first book in this series. I will correct that mistake. And if you have not read the first book either I recommend that you do as it will help you understand this book better. Alexa, Briley, Anna-Grace and Steven are terrific and each of their actions can affect the lives of each other which makes for a fascinating, sometimes exciting reading. Get ready for a very interesting read that will keep you flipping pages. I am so looking forward to the next book in this series.

Title: WHEN GRACE SINGS
Author: Kim Vogel Sawyer

Genre: Mennonite
Series: Zimmerman Restorations Trilogy

When trouble roars into quiet Arborville, Alexa and Anna-Grace find themselves the target for discord and exposed secrets. Can they continue to seek the God of all grace amidst the fog of confusion?

Alexa Zimmerman wonders if the Old Order Mennonite community in Arborville, Kansas will ever fully accept her. WHEN GRACE SINGS is the second book in Ms. Sawyer’s Zimmerman Restoration Trilogy. I didn’t read the first one in the series, but other than some initial confusion (which I figured out pretty quick) this story stands alone. However, the ending leaves me to wonder if the stories in this one will be continued in the third book.

Ms. Sawyer is a very talented author and she had four different story lines included in this one, with four points of view. Alexa, Anna-Grace, Steven, and Briley. They all have secrets. Hurts. Wishes. Struggles. And a reason why they might lose everything.

If you are a fan of Amish or Mennonite fiction, Ms. Sawyer, or family dramas (with a touch of romance) you might be interested in WHEN GRACE SINGS.

I haven’t read too many of Ms. Sawyer’s books. She’s a hit or miss author with me. This one was good, interesting. I definitely was curious about how everything would play out. I will probably read the third book, just to see how it ends.

4 stars. Available in ebook and paperback. 352 pages.

This is the second book in The Restoration Trilogy. If you haven't read the first book, you will be very, very confused.

This is an excellent series. This book is told from four POV's. The setting is a modern day Old Order Mennonite community. We have Alexa, her cousin, Anna Grace, the reporter Briley and Anna Grace's fiance, Steven. This book picks up soon after the first one ends.

Alexa is living with her grandmother and has opened her B&B. She has learned she is not her mother's biological daughter and is struggling to feel like she really fits in with all her Mennonite family members. She is constantly trying to do what is right so that they look past the fact that they are not her blood family and accept her.

Anna Grace is our next character. We briefly met her in the last book, but this time she is a main character. I found Anna Grace to be a little sickly sweet - a little too perfect. But as the book went on, I liked her more. She became more realistic to me as her perfect world crumbled a little.

Steven and Briley were both new introductions. I enjoyed both. Steven was a little bit of a frustrating character because he was never telling anyone what is real dream was... to be a teacher, not a farmer like his father. I felt like Steven really created a lot of his own problems and at one point wondered if he should even be getting married to Anna Grace, but he redeemed himself to me eventually also.

Briley was a bit different because he was a total outsider. He was a rather jaded man with a very dysfunctional past who was going to dig up dirt on the Plain community. I liked him because he was a very charismatic character, but he was very unhappy with life. I won't give away what happens, but I'm wondering if his character is done for this series or if he'll be back......

Of course this book also catches up with some of the other characters through their interactions with these four. Just like the first book, this book is about family, God's grace and the restoring love of Christ. The characters are well developed and the stories are interwoven into each other. I am excited to read the third book and see how all the loose ends are tied up!

Kim Vogel Sawyer is one of my favorite authors. I am always sure that when I open one of her books that I will love it. "When Grace Sings" is her newest novel and it starts where "When Mercy Rains" ended. This is one series that it is definitely beneficial to read in order. There is a lot of family history and details that enhance the story and if you skip the first book I think it would be much harder to fully grasp the family dynamics. I loved the first book and I had been waiting patiently for "When Grace Sings". It was everything I hoped it would be and more. I loved this one more than the first and that was a lot!

The story focuses on the characters of Alexa and Anna-Grace. Alexa is now living with and taking care of her grandmother while running a bed and breakfast in her grandmother's home. Anna is Alexa's cousin. They were both adopted and Anna-Grace does not feel like she fits in with her family and is afraid that she never will. There is also Briley Forrester, a reporter from Chicago who has come to stay in the bed and breakfast that Alexa runs while he does a story on the "dark" side of Plain life. What he doesn't expect is for the town of Arborville to pull at his heartstrings. I can't forget Steven, Anna-Grace's fiance who is having his own set of problems. He is trying to be the perfects son and is battling his calling and all of this is causing problems with him and Anna-Grace.

There always seems to be a message to Kim Vogel Sawyers books and I love the deep faith that she roots them in. Even though there is conflict in the books she always shows how a faith in God can overcome any difficulty that you face. I always feel uplifted and encouraged after reading one of Sawyers books!

With this being book two of The Zimmerman Restoration Trilogy, I can tell you that I can hardly wait for book three. With the way things are going I think it's going to be an amazing end to and amazing series and I can't wait to read the conclusion!

Briley Forrester, hotshot big city reporter, is in the tiny Old Order Mennonite town of Arborville to dig up some dirt on the residents. He and his boss think there must be more to the story than the outward appearance of these people. He stays at the Bed and Breakfast run by Alexa Zimmerman. She's not Old Order Mennonite but she lives plain since her extended family, the Zimmerman's are. Both Briley and Alexa have issues from the past that haunt them. Briley was abandoned at 5 and raised in foster homes. Alexa was abandoned as an infant and raised by Suzy Zimmerman.

Also featured in the story are Steven Brungardt and Anna-Grace Braun who are "published" to be married. Steven has inherited a farm in Arborville from his deceased grandfather. Steven doesn't want to be a farmer, he wants to be a teacher but he doesn't want to disappoint his parents and Anna-Grace. Anna-Grace isn't sure she wants to go to Arborville either because she has discovered that her birth parents are from there. She doesn't want to know who they are but she doesn't want to run into them either.

This story is a continuation of When Mercy Rains and this book is number 2 in the Zimmerman Restoration series. Book 1 deals with Suzy Zimmerman's return to her family with the daughter she raised (Alexa) and seeing for the first time since birth her own illegitimate daughter that had been adopted by a cousin.

Time out! I need to grumble at the author a little: Mrs. Sawyer, you left us hanging on Suzy at the end of book one. Now at the end of book two you leave us hanging on Suzy, Alexa AND Anna-Grace. Book 3 (since this is a trilogy) better be Faith Restored or some such and resolve all three of these. They are all begging for resolution.

Just so you know, that rant above was in fun. I love Kim Vogel Sawyer. She is arguably my FAVORITE of all favorite authors. She provided this book to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. I would have snarfed it up anyway because I've been waiting (impatiently) for this next installment in the story. Please speed-write book number 3, Mrs. Sawyer.

Deb’s Dozen: When Grace Sings, Lives Change, Sins are Forgiven, True Happiness is Found

Briley Forrester, a foster kid still searching for acceptance as an adult, works for a scandal mag. He comes up with the idea of finding the “dirt” behind the Plain life of an Old Order Mennonite Community and convinces his boss he should go there, live in the community, and see what he can find.

Alexa Zimmerman wonders if the community will ever accept her with her history. She’s come to Arborville to redo her grandmother’s home into the bed-and-breakfast, Grace Notes.

Steven Brungardt wants more than anything to be a teacher, but his parents have chosen to give him his grandfather’s farm as a wedding gift. Being a dutiful son, he is obeying his parents and fixing up the farmhouse—knowing that he doesn’t want to be there or be a farmer.

Anna-Grace Braun knows she is adopted, but doesn’t want to know who her parents really are—the Brauns have raised her and they are the parents of her heart and mind. Steven’s farm is in Arborville and so are the parents who gave her up all those years ago. Can she be happy there?

When Grace Sings blesses us with the story of these four young people. All of them have soul-searching to do—all of them need to find themselves—all of them need to let go and let God. You will love these four—and the family that surrounds them. You will love finding out how their lives become intertwined and how they handle the situations that life serves up to them. This is a story of love and forgiveness and fellowship and hope. Four stars!

Kim Sawyer is well-known for her stories of hope which have garnered awards such as the Inspirational Readers Choice Award, the American Christian Fiction Writers Carol Award, and the Gayle Wilson Award of Excellence. She and her husband, Don, and their cats live in central Kansas. Find more information about Kim at her works at http://kimvogelsawyer/

This is a novel about Old Order Mennonite families in a small community in Kansas. The author expresses herself beautifully through her writing. She says the simplest things so elegantly. For instance, in the first paragraph of Chapter 18 instead of writing that Briley's cynicism had disappeared or vanished, Ms. Sawyer writes, " . . . Briley's cynicism had packed a bag and moved to another state." This type of writing is engaging and leaves me wanting to read more.

One of the main themes running throughout the book for three of the main characters was about maternal abandonment. Each of these characters had been abandoned in some manner by his/her biological mother many years before. However, each was fortunate to have a loving, nurturing 'adoptive' mother or foster mother volunteer to step into the role of raising them to be self-sufficient, highly-functioning members of society. This theme was meaningful and believable. These characters had many issues to deal with regarding their biological mothers, but by the end of the book each came out of his/her ordeal appreciating the affection and 'life' their mother-in-love had given to them over the years.

The supporting characters were interesting and likeable. I particularly liked the ten-year-old boy in the story named Danny Aldrich. He brought a sparkle to the sometimes somber situations in the story and was adored by the men and women in the story for his fun-loving and sweet spirit. The matriarch of the story, Abigail Zimmerman, was a strong woman whose leadership and mentoring to the young women in the family was evident.

I recommend this book to fans of Christian and Amish fiction, fans of clean fiction, and readers who would like to read more about a faith-based community experiencing true-to-life trials and tribulations.

If you’ve been reading my blog long, you know I LOVE Kim Vogel Sawyer’s books. I think I have done more reviews of her books than any other author! In fact, I just checked and there are 18 reviews of her books on my blog rosemccauley.com so check it out with my search engine if you want to read more. And I had already read several of her books before I ever started my blog! She was one of the first authors I met at my first ACFW conference in Kansas City, MO in 2002, and we have been friends ever since!

This book was extra special. I loved the prequel to this one–When Mercy Rains which is the first book in the Zimmerman Restoration Trilogy. I bet you are happy like I am that it means there is at least one more book in this series!

Another reason it is special to me is that some of the characters in this book tie into the character Beth Quinn McCauley in the Sommerfield trilogy, another of my favorite sets by Kim.

Now, for my review of When Grace Sings. Anna Grace Braun is the adopted daughter of a couple in Sommerfield who comes to Arborville Kansas with her fiance. She stays at the charming B and B named Grace Notes which is run by Alexa Zimmerman. They and many other have lots to learn about God’s grace and showing that grace to others.

This book is a love story on so many levels–family love, romantic love, and God’s love for us all. And there are several surprises for the reader as well as for the characters.

There is a tender salvation scene that brought tears to my eyes. God can save even the most unlikely characters–just like in real life!

Even though I received a review copy from the publisher, these comments are all my own. I hope they will encourage you to buy this book on kindle or paperback, and to check out any of Kim’s other books you haven’t read yet. Enjoy!

When Grace Sings is book two in The Zimmerman Restoration Trilogy. The first two books of the series have been such a joy to read! I seemed to fly through the pages in order to find out what secrets would be revealed next. I definitely recommend reading book one, When Mercy Rains, first. Otherwise, you may find yourself very confused about the secrets that swirl around this interesting Old Order Mennonite family.

Another thing to be prepared for with both of these books is that the problems that arise during the stories end up partially solved at the conclusions of each book, but in both stories, there are open-ended situations that remain unresolved. I already knew, from reading another review, that this was the case. So, I was able to prepare myself. I was able to enjoy this wonderful, and touching, story and know that book three will be the book where everything works itself out.

Various characters in the story deal with some pretty deep issues ranging from feelings of not belonging, anger, guilt, and even the fear of people’s judgment. The author did a good job of making likeable characters who also carried around these flaws. I am very interested to see how things come together in the next story and have really enjoyed growing close to the characters in this trilogy.

My thanks to the publisher for the complimentary copy of this book that I received through Blogging for Books.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

After reading book one in this series, I will excited about reading When Grace Sings. Alexa is now running her B&B, Grace Notes at her grandmothers house. But she never thought she would be hosting her cousin, Anna-Grace Braun. Though Alexia knew the truth about what happened years ago, Anna-Grace had no idea. So when Alexia agreed to host Anna-Grace at the B&B, she was the one that had no idea how she could be in the same house together with Anna-Grace. And with hotshot Chicago reporter Briley Forrester nosing around trying to find out all he could about the Amish, things would get very testy at the B&B.

Another Kim Vogel Sawyer book that I love! My heart went out to Alexia because of her insecurity, but I don't think she had a reason to be, because her grandmother was truly crazy about her. And Alexia had been a joy to the older woman's life. The entire story is full of tension because of the close quarters in the house with the two young ladies and the grandma there. And Briley added more tension as well as fun to the story. You had to like Briley, even though he was annoying at times. You just have to read the this book to get the full effect. And I agree with other reviewers that several issues was left hanging, but I hope the third book in this series will take care of this.

I received this book from Litfuse to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 55.

I don't know how Mrs. Sawyer comes up with her story lines but she has out done herself again. Book 2 of The Zimmerman Restoration Trilogy entitled When Grace Sings continues the story of the Zimmerman family. Alexa who found out a secret that her mother was keeping in book one and learns about Anna-Grace. Alexa opens a B & B after making repairs to her grandmothers house which is named Grace Notes. Her first guest is a reporter from Chicago, Briley Forester who is there to find out any secrets that the Amish and Mennonite may have.
While there Briley learns that sometimes it take patience and grace to really know yourself and others. Briley has deep hurt from his past because of his mothers abandonment.
Steven is given a house that was left for his brother who left the fellowship. The house needs lots of repairs so Steven stays in Arborville to make repairs. Anna Grace comes two weeks later to see the house and help with repairs while staying with the Zimmerman's. While there she learns that Steven has other plans than being a farmer. She is shocked but will she forgive him for not telling her sooner.
Meanwhile Briley learns that Alexa is not the biological granddaughter of her grandma. He decides the write a story about this but Alexa pleads with him not too. After a lot of praying Briley decides to not write the story and leaves to go see his foster mother in Chicago.
If you love stories by Amish fiction authors then you will love this 2nd book by Kim Vogel Sawyer.

This is book 2 in The Zimmerman Restoration Trilogy series and let me tell you - the plot thickens - leading me to believe book 3 is going to be explosive! This is one of those series you should read in order but it's not necessary. Ms. Sawyer has a wonderful, gently way of writing that lets the Grace of God shine through in her words. Is there conflict - sure but it is done in such a way that it enriches the story instead of bringing negativity into it.

Alexa and Anna-Grace are forever united by a common bond that only one of them is aware of. Anna-Grace is gentle and a bit naive. Alexa is a bit hardened by knowing the truth. Both young women approach the truth, or what they think is the truth, in very different ways but at the same time they are very similar.

The truth will always win out in the end but it can be a very bumpy road as you will find out in this series. This is not a series to miss. I am really looking forward to the 3rd book in the trilogy! I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

One of the things I like the most about the author's stories is that she truly has a gift of words. She has the ability to write in a way that you are humbled and feel the grace, belief, and hope instilled in her characters. She never preaches. Her characters are soft, kind, and humble yet strong and loving, with a gift of leading non believers and the lost to faith. You feel peaceful right along with being entertained each time you read on of her novels.

This book offers the reader a unique look at the life inside of the Old Order Mennonite family along with a bit of hidden scandal too. No one is perfect and this book tackles the concept of what you see many not be what it seems. Faith is tested in many ways, but it is always handled with grace.

This is an easy read dealing with relationships and family. I enjoyed the unique storyline and as always, the writing and the lessons were right on. You can bet that you will always learn something about yourself when reading a novel by Ms. Sawyer.

My daughter turned me on to this series after she read the first book and I feel so blessed to be able to read them too.

This wonderful series by Kim Vogel Sawyer has certainly earned a place on my bookshelf.

This is not the first story I have read about old-order Mennonites… I have read several books about similar communities and enjoyed them nearly as much as I enjoy reading about my beloved Amish communities.

This series has been a surprise for me — nothing like either of the novels I’ve read about old-order Mennonite communities but a wonderful story nonetheless. This is not an easy series to read — but I highly recommend it. Just because the stories deal with serious issues, does not mean they should be passed by.

Kim Vogel Sawyer writes a powerful story. The strength of emotion is so strong, the characters are so real and the issues they deal with are so easily believable — perhaps even familiar to some of us.

You will not want to put this book down until you reach the end. And you will find yourself wishing time would pass quickly so you can read the next one.

I recently had the opportunity to review this new book by Kim Vogel Sawyer. She is one of my favorite authors and I have read all of her previous books. She has a knack for making even Amish books interesting:) This one is a little bit different and I found myself somewhat confused at times, just because there are soo many characters to keep track of and how they are all related. Still, it was a good book to read and I enjoyed it.

There are not really two main characters like in your typical fiction book but rather several. Some of whom are related in distant ways which makes for a fun storyline. Alexa is part owner of a bed and breakfast and probably my favorite character. Her strength of spirit is amazing. I also had a good laugh or two over her guests. They are quite funny and Briley is a hoot. Their first meeting you want to slap him but once you get to know him, you realize he isn't that bad. The Amish culture is very well played out and I felt like I learned some about them. An excellent book from Kim Sawyer!

Alexa Zimmerman’s bed-and-breakfast is now open in her grandmother’s farmhouse. With business slow, she accepts a long-term stay from a city reporter, Briley, who is there to unearth the dirt on the Mennonite way of life. Although courteous, Briley remains on continual alert for a juicy story. Alexa, who was introduced in a prior story (When Mercy Rains), has such a story. The other key players for this story are Anna-Grace and Stephen who are published to be married soon. They are leaving their family homes to move to Arborville and take over a family homestead that Stephen has inherited. This young couple, too, struggles with finding their way into adulthood and making known their dreams to one another. Readers will enjoy the believeable characters from this contemporary novel.

Thanks to Waterbrook Press for providing me an advance copy to read and review in my own words.

When Grace Sings by Kim Vogel Sawyer was a sweet romance story. This book was slow in the beginning but it did pick up after a few chapters. I love how she tells you who is talking when the narrator changes throughout the whole book. I like when authors do that because than it makes it easier to read because you don’t have to try and guess who is talking. I wasn’t a huge fan of Briley throughout most of the book and I am honestly not sure why but he just got on my nerves. Towards the end I did start to like him and was sad to see this book end. I didn’t read the first book in this series and I was able to figure out what was going on and follow along. If you love romance novels than I would for sure recommend this book to you.

I did not realize this was part of a series until I had started it, but I chose to forge on and actually read the prior book after I finished this one. Yes for background it would have been a little useful, but for the most part this book stands alone very well.

The characters are easy to imagine and I found myself sympathizing with both Alexa and Anna-Grace throughout the book. I have very little knowledge of the Mennonite religion and lifestyle outside another books series or two, but the male domination is always a bit hard to understand. This was especially true for this book as I found little patience for Anna-Grace's fiancee. I do hope he redeems himself in this sequel.

I would highly recommend this book, it's an easy read but hard to put down. I can't wait for the sequel this fall.

“When Grace Sings” by Kim Vogel Sawyer is the second book in the Zimmerman Restoration Trilogy. The family secrets keep coming. In this novel, Alexa Zimmerman has opened a bed and breakfast in her grandmother’s old home. One of her long-term boarders is a journalist who has ulterior motives for being in Arborville. Also coming to the community is Anna-Grace, a cousin of Alexa’s, who is planning on marrying Steven. Secrets, both from the past and in the present, abound among the novel’s characters. It seems that everyone has something to hide. I enjoyed the book, but it was not one of my favorites.

I was sent a free print copy of the book by NightOwlReviews.com in return for my honest opinion of the book. You can find this review on my blog at http://wp.me/p2pjIt-f6.

This is the second book in The Zimmerman Restoration Trilogy. In this book Alexa has opened her B and B. Anna Grace is planning on marrying Stephen.and she learns that her birth parents live in the town that they might live in once they are married.. Anna Grace needs to learn if she can live in a town with the people she feels abandoned her. During this Alexa takes in a reporter who wants to write a big story .
This story is well written and has a few twists and turns. I am greatly looking forward to how this will all end. I received this book through Blogging for Books for a fair and honest opinion. I need to find out what is going to happen with all these characters.

When Grace Sings, By: Kim Vogel Sawyer
This is book two in the Zimmerman Restoration Trilogy. It is an excellent book by Kim Vogel Sawyer. You are easily drawn into this story. It feels as though you are almost a part of the story. Such a connection with the characters in this story. This story makes one stop and think that you don’t have to hide from things that have happened in your life. That if we take the time to open our hearts and accept the gift before us that we would receive Grace. A very toughing and moving book for me. There is a lot happening in this story to keep your interest. 5 stars!

This is another excellent book by Kim Vogel Sawyer. I love her ability to take a serious topic, or in this case topics, and turn it into a story of grace, mercy and forgiveness. Heartbreak, betrayal, and secrets abound in this story, just as they did in the first. The author adds sparks of humor and moments of sweetness to keep the story from being too heavy and the plot flowing effortlessly. Read my full review: http://faithlovebooks.blogspot.com/20...

This is the second part in Sawyer’s trilogy. I have ordered book 3 from the library. Little of Suzzanne in this book; more development of Alexa, Paul, Anna-Grace. Introduction of Briley Forrester, a reporter from Chicago, and Samuel, Anna-Grace’s betrothed. Alexa, the B & B, and the old Mennonite community in Arborville, Kansas are the main characters along with Abigail, grandmother. I miss Suzzanne and that is the reason for the lower rating.
