They call the Vorpyr ruthless predators. But the most dangerous of all is the one who claims me.
I was a desk-bound cultural researcher until a field mission to an alien world promised escape. I knew the risks. I knew the Vorpyr were feared across the galaxy.
But the mission ended in chaos. We were ambushed. My team scattered. And I was taken by the deadliest male among them.
Arrazyl is everything the warnings promised. He is absolute power. A living weapon. My captor. He should have killed me on sight. Instead, he takes me to his breathtaking city and everything I thought I knew begins to fracture.
His world is cruel and beautiful. But beneath the savagery is honor. Beneath the ferocity is a passion that scorches every lie I cling to. His touch burns through me with an irresistible, forbidden heat.
And the longer I remain his prisoner, the harder it becomes to remember which side I belong to.
Because in this war, the greatest danger isn’t losing my life. It’s realizing I’ve already lost my heart to the savage alien who claimed me.
The Enemy’s Claim is a scorching-hot enemies-to-lovers alien romance featuring a ruthless alien warlord, a fierce FMC, and a guaranteed HEA.
Postgrad xenoanthropologist Jacqueline along with her brother Jaron and colleague Tatiana are left behind by the exploration crew they’re working with on what’s supposed to be an abandoned planet. The planet is not uninhabited, however, but populated by very large winged humanoid creatures who are not pleased that they’re being visited or studied. Jacqueline has some knowledge of their language and culture which both gives her an advantage in dealing with the species while also casting great suspicion upon her.
The leader, Arrazyl, in particular is eager to dispose of these intruders, yet he finds himself drawn to Jacqueline in a most primal way. As the nefarious agenda of the Consortium is revealed, it’s up to him to keep his kind - and his mate - safe.
There’s definitely an enemies to lovers vibe, and the slow burn is more medium to fast. Jacqueline’s interactions with the young vorpyr are very cute as well.
I received an advance reader copy from The Author Agency, and I’m sharing my honest review.
The synopsis drew me in and the story kept me there. I figured I would like this book, but I did not know how much I would really enjoy it. The FMC was feisty, vulnerable, and felt very real. Her reactions really matched her character and the situation she was in and I appreciated that. I also really liked that the feelings and romance evolved naturally and it wasn’t instant. The MMC is strong, protective, and a true alpha. He is someone who makes the hard choices for his people and family. Watching him taken advice from those closest to him as well as see his feelings evolve was very nice.
I love the description of the planet and creating this entire world and ranking system. I really hope this series continues because I want to see more of this world, these people, and get more detail into everything.
I had an excellent time with this book. I love the backdrop a sci-fi book gives and the set up to this story really worked. I loved that the FMC was a brave, gracious scientist and that the MMC was just and kind. All the little tidbits were fun - the wing taps and the trilling. The plot and pacing were well done. Lots of shifting threats. The spice was spicy! If you like the bat boys, you'll like these bat boys.
Wow, there’s so much to say about My Enemy’s Claim and no way for me to say it without giving too much away but I’m going to try my best. This book was filled with action and adventure that kept me on the edge of my seat from the very first page and throughout. When Jacqueline is first approached with the option to go on a research based mission to explore the abandoned ruins of Vorpyr (a world full of dangerous demon like beings who the entire human race is told are violent monsters who kill humans mindlessly and without provocation) she is beside herself with excitement and happily pulls her brother Jaron and friend Tatianna into her team of scholars.
However while still collecting samples for further study the trio are forced to question everything that they’ve been led to believe when they are confronted by the very beings they believed had abandoned the ruins, further compacted when the Consortium of humans who were on the planet with them callously leave them behind to accept their fate and probable demise. After spending time with the Vorpyr and in particular the Vorazyr (leader) of the Vorpyr Arrazyl, Jacqueline is forced to face the painful truth, that maybe the humans were the monsters all along.
The world building in this book is fantastic, the author describes things in such a way that you can really visualise every plant and creature described as well as the more complex cultural aspects when facing an entirely different race of beings. Add to that the character development as you see the various characters in the book gradually come around to the possibility of each other and the fact that not all humans or Vorpyr are inherently bad.
Watching Arrazyl and Jacqueline slowly open up to each other and the possibility of more between them was truly beautiful, it was written in such a way that their connection felt natural and not at all forced, their connection and unmistakable bond continued to grow with each interaction between them and the spice and chemistry between them was off the charts.
All in all this book was entertaining from start to finish and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Jacqueline is a university scholar chosen to study the history of a supposedly deserted Vorpyr planet. She arrives with a small research team including her brother Jaron and her assistant Tatiana, expecting ancient ruins and quiet discovery. What they get instead is a planet that is very much alive and very much dangerous.
When their group is attacked by Vorpyrn warriors, Jacqueline, Tatiana and Jaron are captured and taken to the alien city. One of the warriors is Arrazyl, the powerful and intimidating leader of his people. He is convinced the humans are spies sent with malicious intent and Jacqueline quickly realises she is at the mercy of an alien who is as terrifying as he is attractive.
As the truth comes out and it becomes clear the humans are scholars, not enemies, their captivity begins to shift into something more complicated. Jacqueline is given the chance to see more of the Vorpyrn civilisation and her interactions with Arrazyl change from hostile to curious, charged and then completely consuming. Every glance and touch starts to mean something, and their enemies-to-lovers journey is deliciously slow and intense, culminating in a heat so all consuming.
I FREAKING LOVED THIS BOOK. I love an alien romance and this one hit every single box for me. A hot, protective, winged alien? Check. A brave, intelligent, capable FMC? Check. A dangerous and beautifully built alien world? Check.
The slow burn and mutual pining were incredible, and the chemistry between Jacqueline and Arrazyl was off the charts. When they finally came together, the mate bond and knotting had me absolutely melting. Arrazyl’s obsession and protectiveness were next level, and his devotion to Jacqueline was ridiculously attractive.
This was an immersive and seriously addictive read and I’m already desperate for the next book in the series.
As a researcher of alien culture and languages, Jacqueline jumps at the chance to research an abandoned planet with Vorypr archeological sites. As current human relations with the horned and winged aliens are hostile, this may be the only way for her to learn more about their species. But the research mission goes sideways and she's kept captive with her brother and research assistant by the vicious Vorypr. Their leader, Arrazyl is convinced she knows more than Jacqueline does, but as she learns more about his people, she finds herself more and more attracted to Arrazyl. Can she navigate the complicated politics to keep herself and her fellow captives safe?
I really liked Jacqueline as a main character. She's rather out of her depths but feels responsible for the safety of her brother and her assistant, so she's willing to do whatever it takes to keep them safe. She's empathetic and truly loves learning about the Vorpyr culture, which makes her more willing to bridge the gap between the species. She was logical and grounded and she truly tried her hardest to make the best out of a bad situation. My one complaint was that Jacqueline forgaves Arrazyl extremely quickly, especially given the dangerous situations she continued to find herself in.
By comparison, Arrazyl is harsher and more stubborn. It takes a while for him to trust Jacquline, though he appreciates her fortitude and determination. He wants to do what is right for his people, but his attraction to Jacqueline challenges him as his wants and his peoples' needs come into contact. Unfortunately, his hatred of humans often leads to him making less than stellar decisions. However, I loved seeing him soften towards Jacqueline.
Overall this was a fun alien romance with a lot of detail on alien culture and customs.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The Enemy's Claim by Angelique Farr is a slow-burn alien romance that plunges readers in a fantastically imagined world. The story follows Jacqueline, her brother, and a fellow scholar from the College they work at, who find themselves abandoned on an alien planet and captured by Arrazyl and his Vorpyr.
As the narrative unfolds, we get a unique perspective from Jacqueline's POV, offering an 'educational' journey as she and her companions learn about the alien world and its inhabitants, the Vorpyr. The world-building is a standout feature, with details and names that suit the alien species, though a pronunciation guide would be ideal to fully appreciate them.
Jacqueline is a strong, resilient character, and she adapts seamlessly to her new reality, serving as a protector and guide for her little trio. Her interactions with Arrazyl, who initially distrusts humans due to their history, gradually shift as her curiosity and genuine interest in his culture break down barriers. The romance between them is full of tension, cultural misunderstandings, and well-written spicy scenes that add depth to their relationship.
There is conflict as not everyone approves of their growing bond, leading to moments of suspense and adversity. Jacqueline's patience and commitment to educating others about human diversity are admirable, and the story explores themes of prejudice, appearances, and the importance of actions over assumptions. The narrative is engaging, making it easy for readers, even those new to sci-fi romance, to become invested from start to finish.
Fans of enemies-to-lovers and alien romance will enjoy The Enemy's Claim. I don't read a lot of Sci-Fi romances, in fact, this is the first in a long while and this book offers a riveting blend of world-building, character development, and emotional depth, making it a memorable addition to the genre.
After Jacqueline’s research work is confiscated, she’s angry and missing her work, when she’s asked to do a mission off planet, a xenoarchaeological cultural research mission, on a guaranteed abandoned planet. She jumps on it bringing along her assistant and brother.
When they arrive everything seems fine, until they’re attacked and kidnapped by Vorpyr who are very much still living on this planet.
This was a fun scifi alien romance read. The world building is more in depth than I expected. I loved the found family that develops between the kidnapped humans and the Vorpyr.
It’s pretty much everything you expect in an alien romance. With the romance being the focal point. I had fun reading it, there’s just some points in the story that could have been expounded on.
Such as, I wish the romance was drawn out a bit more. They went from hating each other to basically being in love in the span of a page. It just was super fast, and then everyone else had a relationship. It just seemed too good to be true and convenient.
I also realized I don’t know if we know why they went to that planet in the first place. For research, but there was obviously an ulterior motive and I don’t know what it was. I feel as if the plot got lost at some point, and the focus was just on the romance. Which is fine, but some closure would have been nice.
The series will continue, I just don’t know how connected it will be with this first book. Maybe I’ll find out more in the next book! If you love alien romances, I would check this one out. It’s has a steamy romance, and fun friendships.
Thank you to the author for the e-ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Enemies to lovers Alpha MMC High Stakes Sibling bonds Mate claiming 🪢 Brewing War Intergalactic tensions Special 😉 tongue
The stakes were most definitely high. Jacqueline is sent on an academic trip to what is thought to be an abandoned Vorpyr planet. It’s a little suspicious considering the Consortium already confiscated all of her previous research on the Vorpyr, but she isn’t about to turn down the trip of her career. Once arriving, Jac, her brother, Jaron, and her undergrad student Tatiana are taken captive by Vorpyr as prisoners of war.
Jacqueline and Jaron have such a great sibling bond! They squeezed at my heart a few times just being the duo that they are. Tatiana made a perfect addition to the group. Angelique Far wrote them in a way that had me forgetting they weren’t all siblings. They formed such a strong bond after the trauma they endured.
Arrazyl and Jac were absolutely adorable! The road from POW to “I love you” was hard-won with brittle trust and constant prejudices and politics working against them. But they weren’t the only ones I rooted for! I was aaaalll for Jaron’s and Tatiana’s progressing relationships.
I’m beyond excited for the rest of the series! I can’t wait to find out who the sequel will be about. I have my hopes and suspicions, but I’ll be ecstatic about any of them🥹
Thank you so much to the author and The Author Agency for the gifted copy!🖤
This is an alien encounter, enemies to lovers, fated mated, sci fi romance in a universe where the humans have reached space, joined in intergalactic trade and they have uncivil relations with their closest alien neighbors the Vorpyr. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The Vorpyr are colloquially called the demon species because of their horns and wings. They are led by a leaders who each rule an area of their planet. Arrazyl is the leader of one area who encounters three human anthropologists (and also linguists, archaeologists, mathematicians) in one of their sacred burial grounds.
Jacqueline, Tatiana, and Jaron are immediately treated as prisoners and interrogated about their presence on their planet. What makes this book remarkable is Jacqueline’s perspective, which comes from someone who is consistently curious about the cultures and language of the Vorpyr. She learns from every interaction, even though they are initially terrified for their lives. Additionally, this book explores a romantic relationship between the human characters and the people and culture of the planet.
This book left a lasting impression on me. As soon as I finished reading it, I couldn’t help but dream about the characters because they were so well-written. I can’t wait for the continuation of the series.
If you loved Ice Planet Barbarians, you will enjoy this book too!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5
I was so scared going into this book because the cover showed a demonic looking man but Arrazyl is ANYTHING but. Now I understand why there are reviews saying this isn’t real enemies to lovers but honestly it IS enemies to lovers, just the yearning and forbidden kind, not the immense bullying kind.
Jacqueline is a professor but spends a lot of her time studying and researching the Culture and Language of other life forms. After the government stripped her of her research, she is given the opportunity to go and explore an abandoned Vorpyr planet… or so she’s told.
This is a wonderful story with not too much plot dumping where it’s overwhelming but just enough to not get lost or not know what’s going on and I can’t wait to see what Angelique does with the second book.
My overall favorite thing about this book was that although they were attracted to each other, there was build up to their relationship. There is also side plot of other relationships that I can’t wait to read about.
My favorite quotes and notes:
“Then come, dhysa. We’ll indulge your sensitive nature and go somewhere without the sounds of pleasure.”
- wtf 😭😂
“You’re despicable.” “But you love it when I’m despicable.”
This was a fascinating read. The world building was amazing and well organized. There was a great amount of depth to the hate between these species that faded for some and didn’t for others.
Jacqueline is a phd professor and field researcher for a university with her younger brother Jaron. They get selected to go check out an abandoned site for a species humans aren’t on good terms with. This leads to the capture of them plus her research assistant Tatiana by the vorpyr people. Arrazyl is there leader and he is harsh but fair. As they try to get information from the humans it becomes obvious that they don’t know anything. It’s great that Jacqueline is a linguistic and has studied many. She is the translator for her small group and their captures. There are many attempts on the humans and they are constantly getting sent to the healers. But a connection seems to evolve between each of the humans and a different vorpyr.
It is very fascinating for sure. Hold so many characters in their own journeys and have a complex storyline is amazing. Love this book. Would give this book more than 5 ⭐️s if I could it was that good.
This was such a satisfying sci-fi romance! I love a good enemies-to-lovers setup, and this one delivered with depth, tension, and a surprisingly tender emotional arc. Arrazyl starts off as the classic ruthless alien warlord—cold, powerful, and totally distrustful of humans. But watching him slowly unravel in the presence of Jacqueline’s quiet strength and intelligence? Chef’s kiss. Their dynamic is electric, and the writing really brings out the layers in both characters. You can feel the shift as trust builds and walls come down. It’s well-paced, emotionally rich, and just crunchy enough to keep you hooked.
I was completely absorbed—once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. The writing is so immersive and well done, and the alien romance vibes? Delivered. I love a good alien romance series, and this one has me counting down the days until book two. Huge thanks to the The Author Agency and the author for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC before release. I really, really enjoyed it!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I went into this expecting a battlefield and ended up in a playground. the relationship between FMC and MMC lacked the very thing that makes the enemies-to-lovers trope work: genuine strife. Instead of a slow, grueling climb toward mutual respect, the narrative took every shortcut possible.
I never truly believed these two would hurt each other. The "threat" they posed was toothless; they were far too protective and polite from chapter one. I came in expecting real enemies but I can't stay in that mindset if I know right away MMC wants to bang FMC. The beginning was promising but we knew entirely to soon nothing enemy like was going to happen.
If you want a romance where the path is smooth and the "hate" is just a light dusting of annoyance, you’ll be happy here. But if you’re looking for a story where the characters have to claw their way toward love through blood and conviction, you’ll find this read frustratingly safe.
Jacqueline is researcher on cultures, teaching on earth when an opportunity arises to go to another planet and develop her research. I liked how the story developed, and Jacqueline discovered more about the vorpyr. It did seem to drag on and there were a few miscommunication scenes which annoyed me to no end, but on the whole I generally enjoyed the story. I liked the world building, but I would have liked to have known more about why Jacqueline was able to go to another planet when the consortium hated her. I’d definitely read another story set in the same world!
I recieved an ARC in exchange for leaving a voluntary, honest review. There were a few mistakes in the ARC (less than 10) e.g ‘needed’ instead of ‘kneaded’, they may not be an issue in the published version.
The author’s world building was beautiful and conveyed an environment with unpredictable challenges and danger to the humans creating another layer to the storytelling.
The research expedition to an alien planet unexpectedly leaves Jacqueline, Jaron and Tatiana stranded and defenseless against the native Vorpyr. Arrazyl is furious with with their trespass of sacred grounds and he is determined to interrogate Jacqueline for information he can use against his species’ enemy.
The story has intrigue among the Vorpyr, deeply held anger and suspicion between the two different species & cultures, and the potential of some romantic connections.
I enjoyed the detail and creativity the author used in her storytelling and my attention was held from beginning to end. I’m curious who and what may be in store in book 2 of this series.
I received a free ARC from the author and The Author Agency; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.
The Enemy’s Claim is packed with action and adventure, and honestly, I couldn’t put it down. It was such a fun ride!
The story follows Jacqueline, a university scholar who heads to a supposedly deserted alien planet with her brother Jaron and her assistant Tatiana. Of course, the planet isn’t deserted at all, and it’s very dangerous. After a Vorpyr attack, the team is abandoned and captured by Arrazyl, the Vorpyr leader. Cue the tense interrogations and high-stakes drama.
What I really enjoyed was how the relationships developed over time. Watching Jacqueline and Arrazyl’s dynamic shift from enemies to something deeper was super engaging. The world-building felt rich without being overwhelming, and the character growth was believable and well done.
If you’re into enemies-to-lovers, fated mates, and sci-fi romance, this one definitely delivers. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves a mix of adventure and romance in their sci-fi reads.
This was a fun, fast read (1 day) and very enjoyable. I liked the first half especially because the enemies to lovers is done quite well. There's the apprehension, the bits of fear, and the suspicion.
I wish the political turmoil and reading behind her teams abandonment was a little more fleshed out. Felt a bit rushed at the end. This focuses more on the romance. It's a good enemies to lovers though in the first half-ish.
I wanted to get a better idea of his physicality though. His wings she never explored, the dynamics of that when theyre having spicy time... nor much talk on his horns, fangs, claws. I sped read the spice after the first one, just felt rather typical.
The supporting characters are very good though, clearly defined and sets up their stories well.
A very good quick read for more romance focused alien x Human love.
Independent reviewer for BookSirens, I was gifted my copy of this book.
For the most part, I enjyed this. It was a really easy read. Somethings were laid out for you, and some things you were left wondering what was going to happen.
I loved the slow burn. That was different. While both Arrazyl and Jacqueline have some sort of attraction to each other, it takes time for both of them to give in to it. I liked that the others who get taken, Jacqueline's brother Jaron and Tatiana, have their stories woven into this one.
I thought I had the Consortium figured out, but it appears not.
I liked it, and I think I will read others in the series, it kept me engaged enough.
The Enemy’s Claim is the first book in the Captives of the Vorpyr series that turns enemies into lovers when Jacqueline a human researcher falls into the hands of Arrazyl a Vorpyr warlord when her mission team is attacked for desecrating one of their shrines.
I enjoyed this entertaining adventure and the dynamic between captor and captive that will soon turn passionate as they slowly come to understand and accept their species differences.
Nicely written with well crafted characters the story was entertaining, passionate, and filled with danger, action, and conflict.
A good read that has me looking forward to the next book!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was the great book by Angelique that I’ve read and I can’t wait for the next!!
It felt to me like a slow-burn, enemies to lovers….and at times I really wanted to throat punch Arrazyl….but he won me over in the end😍.
I thought the storyline was really original. I loved that the FMC Jacqueline had her brother Jaron and another researcher friend with her. There was a ton of action, lots of intrigue, mystery and suspense, and lots of delightful sexual tension…. Until that tension exploded into some delightfully steamy scenes. I particularly loved Jacqueline’s spirit and thirst for knowledge as well as her kindness and temerity.
A wonderful read all around!

This was my first time reading this author and I thought it was an okay read overall. The plot was actually good and kept me interested, and the world building was solid without being too complicated. I also really enjoyed the found family trope, that part was done well.
The romance was good too, but the love felt way too sudden for me. Everything moved really fast emotionally, so it was a bit hard to fully buy into their relationship.
Still, it did enough to make me curious about how the series continues and what happens next.
Thank you to The Author Agency & Angelique Far for the ARC in exchange for an honest review
-A thrilling sci-fi romance with a strong, feisty heroine and a powerful alpha hero. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest feedback.
The slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance unfolds naturally amid danger and intrigue. The explosive chemistry between Jacqueline and Arrazyl and their mate bond was wonderful to watch. The world-building is vivid, from the planet’s landscapes to the Vorpyr culture. Action, adventure, and sizzling chemistry keep the reader hooked until the last page.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Enemies Claim didn’t quite meet my expectations, but it wasn’t without its merits. While the writing felt clunky at times and the flow often seemed forced, making it harder to fully immerse myself, there were moments that showed potential. The plot, however, struggled to hold my attention, and getting through the story felt more like work than enjoyment. That said, this may still appeal to other readers, and I hope it resonates more with them than it did with me.
Absolutely devoured this book! Enemies to lovers, sci-fi, fated mates! Knotting, purring. Aliens and humans. It is spicy and prepare yourself! Hidden secrets and stolen research. FMC is a scholar and only wants to research to find new information about other life in the universe. MMC is a leader on his planet with serious trust issues with that yummy brooding behavior. Protective, strong and full on that intense masculine energy. The world building was amazing! Even the explanations of plants and different species of animals you really felt immersed into the story. The build up was so strong you were just waiting for the ball to drop! Overall a super good spicy sci-fi forbidden romance you won’t want to pass up! -Kerin
This is a twist and turn that I never saw coming. Going to another planet to explore that turned into a wild ride where you are treated like an enemy. It was a slow build enemy to lover with and alien twist! I absolutely love it!- Tasha
This is not a typical read for me. I normally don’t read sci-fi, but I thought I would give this book a try. This is definitely a very interesting book where the female ends up in the enemies camp and she finds out her world is completely different and turned upside down than what she thought. It is an enemies to lovers . I am actually interested in seeing further with this author rates. Technically, I would rate this a 3.5.
A very enjoyable enemies to lovers alien romance. I enjoyed the whole academic abandoned to the enemies storyline. Good spice towards the end of the book but some of the interactions felt a bit repetitive. I definitely want to know how the fighting between the two species began, and will come back for boom two to see who was selling the vorpyr out, I mean we know but again not the why how of it.
Amazing. What a start to a series! Arrazyl was everything and Jacqueline was his match. Such good plot with so much detail to go in different directions. Such deep connection with complex emotional vulnerability. Such hot passion and spice. Good Sci-fi violence and drama. I cannot wait for the next!
