SUMMARY

bonnie bailey is staying late at the office only to witness an murder as a guild of assassins infiltrate her floor. she wields a pen as her weapon of choice, resourcefully finding a way to get out of the building alive. she doesn’t expect to get recruited by a secret organization to be an assassin.

ronan clarke swipes her security keycard, gaining access to the building. his first instinct is to protect her, misjudging her for a regular civilian which is partly true. he much prefers to work alone, but he gets assigned a partner and has to babysit the latest recruit.

i’m am so grateful to have received a NetGalley ARC for this graphic novel. iI really enjoyed soy family and the mafia nanny so if you like those, you’ll love this. i want bonnie and ronan to end up together as more than just partners so we shall see how that plays out👀

bonnie had a different upbringing than than an ordinary person. she was raised with daily exercises in combat trainings, poisonous plant identification, and sharp shooting. she’s basically the hannah montana version of an assassin. i think she’s kind of a mix of natasha romanoff and sam from totally spies aesthetic wise.

ronan is a part of a mercenary group called the fianna except their primary goal is to combat foreign and domestic threats. she doesn’t expect to be recruited by the mysterious organization. by day she works in the accounts and receivables department and by night she’s sparring as a new initiate.

she has her first assignment as a prospective fianna agent not realizing that the test involved other agents trying to kill her. she gets the upper hand in hand-to-hand combat, moving in on a headbutt. she pulls the trigger only to realize that the gun wasn’t even loaded.

she cancels one of her training sessions because she wants to go out on date except her new partner doesn’t accept cancellations.
the director decides to give them their first assignment together where they have to eliminate their target. they have to go undercover as a couple eeeek‼️‼️

i flipped between my ARC and the WEBTOON video version. the narrators were spot on. i really liked the irish accents (especially ronan’s voice) and i highly recommend checking it out. volume one is episodes one through fourteen.

Overall this was a quick fun read.

My fave part was the art. I loved how colorful it was and the expressions and body language portrayed for the characters. And the action scenes were easy to follow (even though they weren’t my fave).

Nice little slow burn so I’m okay with not seeing the chemistry yet. The premise is fun but it was somewhat predictable. Looking forward to reading the rest!

This was such a fun read! The concept was really entertaining, and I loved the mix of action, comedy, and the whole secret assassin organization setup.

The story had such a fun balance between ridiculous situations and actual action, and I really enjoyed the chaotic energy throughout. The art style was also gorgeous and fit the fast-paced nature of the story so well.

The characters were interesting, and I’m definitely curious to see how the dynamics develop, especially with Bonnie and Ronan. The office crush though? Sorry, I was not rooting for you.

I’m so glad this is on Webtoon because now I can continue reading and see where this goes.

My Final Say: This was sensational! I loved the protagonist so much. Bonnie may seem mild-mannered and unassuming at a glance, but the girl has got some fire and a bit of sass. I believe there are even more layers to her. Ronan better get a clue. (You know!)

And speaking of Ronan... Sign me up for tall, broody, and hot with a side order of attitude and arrogance! He was a great counter to Bonnie. It was easy to feel the tension between them. There was something subtle present (not too much, not too little; it was just right). I am looking forward to see how his character evolves.

This volume was filled with what I am assuming were a ton of Easter eggs. My mind went right along for the ride. I did not want to miss a thing with the action, the behind the scenes play (which kept me guessing the entire time), and with the potential triangle-to-boot. (Wahoo!) I was so invested that I came up with all the scenarios of what could happen.

Fianna was a ghost organization that existed in plain sight. Can it get any better than that?! The covert, undercover organization of assassins with a noble intent (or is it???) rocked.

I found it interesting that the matter of partners, trust, & friends and enemies laid the groundwork in the way that it did. I also found that ending to be (whoop whoop) fantastic!!! I cannot wait to see how it all plays out in the future. (I sense a betrayal somewhere in the ranks. Dun dun duuun!)

In terms of the artwork and illustrations, every single one was on point. The layout, the design, the colors, the movement, the emphasis on character placement and strategic tools used, the thoughts and the words - they were perfect. The story popped with a major bang.

Book 1 of Accidental Assassin is a hit!

Bonnie's upbringing was anything but normal. Raised by a father who taught her more survival skills than how to interact with others she's had a pretty lonely life. That is until she got her job at Fintech and met her best and only friend (and crush) Wesley. Bored with being an account manager Bonnie dreams of having a little bit more excitement in her life. One evening her wish comes true in the worst possible way. She catches a thief breaking into the building who has killed the security guard and is coming after her! Her dad's training immediately kicks in and she gets the drop on her would be killer. Sadly, though she's also seen a Fianna operative, a shadowy mercenary organization who had been at the scene to stop the very thief Bonnie took out. Thanks to her quick wits Fianna offers her a job! At first she's hesitant to take it, her an assassin!? However, she learns that her and Welsey's new client happens to be Fianna's number one target, determined to protect her friend she agrees to become a killer.

Ahhhhh!! I am so on the fence about this one. Like, I really want to love it a lot but I don't know there's just something about it like as a whole. Bonnie having absolutely zero female friends and having a crush on the only friend she has who just happens to be male is one of those "I'm the weird girl so all of my friend's are male" things that are well just juvenile. The whole "no one takes me seriously because I wear things like floral patterns" fits into that same category. These are comments I expect from high schoolers and quite frankly not even today's high schoolers because dear gods all of my son's friends wear floral patterns male or female. But when the female agents end up in miniskirts and or ridiculously high slit skirts I genuinely almost DNFd it right there. Oh and this is so going to end up being a love triangle. There was just so much about it that seemed very out of touch, like this would have been great ten years ago on so many levels.

HOWEVER,

Yes, that did need to be a giant however. I really liked Bonnie! Actually, I really liked all of the characters!! Even with all of those complaints Bonnie's personality especially shined through it all. Like there is just something about her that is absolutely lovable. Even cold hearted, extremely serious Ronan was great! I still very much don't want to see a love triangle but seriously there's already clearly chemistry between Ronan and Bonnie and omg I so here to see where it goes!! Plus, the whole thing has got this completely Totally Spies! vibe to it that's really hard to just brush off. I know even though it's just one girl instead of an amazing trio of teens that's what it reminded me of almost immediately.

So yeah I've got some hang ups here but honestly, I'm overlooking them because I absolutely want to see how Bonnie's first mission goes down!!

This is silly with fun action. The art is appealing. I love the bright colors and the characters are expressive and well-drawn. I did like the depiction of our FMC Bonnie with her overly cutesy outfits in head to toe pink with fruit jewelry. I’m a sucker for women who present as ultrafeminine, get under-estimated, and prove people wrong .

Unfortunately, I was more concerned that Bonnie was being over-estimated than under-estimated. I was never convinced she had what it took to be a spy or an assassin. Bonnie supposedly had this rugged, survivalist upbringing through her dad, who was always hard on her. But she seems surprised when her training to be an assassin is difficult and her partner won’t let her take it easy. Shouldn’t her childhood have prepared her for those circumstances? If you are constantly annoyed at the high-risk, high-stress job that you chose, maybe it isn’t a good match for you.

Despite the past scenes not indicating anything about Bonnie's current day capability, they were the most interesting parts to me. Perhaps because it showed Bonnie being receptive to the training to be a spy. I was invested in learning more about why her dad taught her survivalist skills and warned that the world is a harsh place.

Because Bonnie was usually in a bad mood when in spy mode, I didn’t understand Rogan's attachment to her. We were supposed to assume her grit and determination impressed him - but I kept waiting for the grit and determination to show up on page. I am a sucker for a grumpy, jaded hero so I was more forgiving of his minimal character development. He was also slyly funny in several scenes.

While the action scenes are fun, they did sometimes pull me out of the story. There is one scene where we are shown in advance that everyone has a gun. But when the fight breaks out, the guns don't come out for awhile. I felt like yelling, Girl, if someone is throwing a knife at you, pull out your gun and shoot them!!!

I know this series is intended to be silly. And I love a silly romcom spy action thriller! Mafia Nanny is one of my all-time favorite series. But this genre is so hard to get the tone right. You can have a heroine who is in over her head, but she can’t be stupid. I have to believe that she can actually get out of dangerous scrapes. And in the end, I just couldn't believe that this heroine had what it took.

I do think this could work for people who are in it for a silly, good time and don't mind when comedic spy thrillers go a little off the rails.

So, I am on the fence with this one.

Let me start with the things I do like. It took a bit for me to get into the art style, but I got there in the end. I will be the first to say I am really picky about my art styles, so I am very hard on them. I do wish this art style was a bit more detailed or, at least, a bit darker to fit with the tone. This style is what I would expect from a fluffy romance, but it’s not bad. The characters are expressive. It just feels a bit cutesy for a story about assassins that is compared to Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I would understand if this was more a comedy, but from what I’ve read in this volume, it seems to be wanting the reader to take it seriously. And maybe this style is meant to reflect our main character who is supposed to be someone who loves all things cutesy and girly.

The characters are all fine! They’re pretty standard for this sort of thing. We have our quirky main character whose father for some reason was teaching her how to fight and survive, etc. We have our grumpy male lead who don’t need no partner. And we have a secret organization that has been working in the shadows behind the scenes.

I think my only problem is that so far, this hasn’t done anything new. It feels like it was for a younger audience, maybe young adult? I also have a small problem with characters and for some reason it’s usually a femme character who does this: they will get into a situation and something very foreseeable or something very normal will happen and the character will get very mad about it and huff and puff about it for ages. For example, in this story, there is a point where our character is in a training situation that gets more intense than she expected and she gets mad about it? She’s holding a grudge and pouting about it for a while? Like… ma’am… you’re in a secret agent assassin organization, this is par for the course why are you so mad? Oh because they didn’t tell me the truth about how intense it was going to be… okay? That’s part of the deal? You have to deal with things on the fly? You have to deal with people lying?

Anyway, I seem to be in the minority, so maybe I was just expecting something different or too much. Maybe this is just supposed to be not serious and fun, but it doesn’t commit to just being a comedy/romance situation in my opinion? I don’t know. Not awful, but I probably won’t be reading more of this series.

Book Review: Accidental Assassin, Vol. 1 by Molly Ni Chéileachair

Accidental Assassin, Vol. 1 is a WEBTOON Unscrolled adaptation that leans heavily into fast-paced action, character chemistry, and a light, accessible tone. It follows Bonnie, an ordinary office worker whose life takes a sharp turn after she is pulled into a secret organization connected to covert operations and assassination work. What makes her stand out is not a sudden transformation, but the realization that her unusual upbringing has already prepared her for this world in ways she does not fully understand at first.

The story is built around Bonnie’s reluctant recruitment and her partnership with Ronan, a seasoned agent who is far less convinced she belongs there. Their dynamic is one of the strongest elements of the volume. Much of the narrative energy comes from their friction, with Ronan acting as a disciplined counterpoint to Bonnie’s unpredictability. While the structure is familiar for the genre, the character interplay helps keep it engaging.

The tone is noticeably lighter than the premise might suggest. Visually, the graphic novel is a clear strength. The art style is clean, expressive, and well suited to its WEBTOON origins. Action sequences are easy to follow, and character expressions carry much of the emotional weight. Bonnie’s design, in particular, captures the series’ blend of softness and capability, reinforcing the contrast at the heart of her character.

Overall, Accidental Assassin, Vol. 1 works best as an introduction to its world and characters rather than a fully developed narrative on its own. It sets up interesting dynamics and a broader organizational mystery, even if it does not yet fully explore its darker or more complex implications. Readers who enjoy character-driven action stories with a light tone will likely find it entertaining, even if it feels more like a setup than a complete statement.

Since this is a graphic novel, I want to first comment on the drawing/illustration. It was great! The characters are fun and well drawn. It's easy to follow. It was all in color. I really liked it!

The story is a little far-fetched, but could be fun if you just roll with it.

Bonnie Bailey works in the accounts receivable department of a firm called Fintech Solutions. They still do everything on paper for security reasons. The firm handles the accounts of a shady fellow, Mr. Adams. She has a crush on her boss, Wesley, as he's her only friend and they interned together. She's bored and would quit but for Wesley.

Wesley asks her to stay late and work on some of Todd's accounts, as no one has seen Todd in a few days. She agrees and works late. While there, the security guard is killed, a guy, Ronan, whom she had met while getting coffee is there (because he took her badge), and two other guys who are assassins. Due to her Dad's training, she knows how to defend herself. (Her dad seems a little paranoid and was possibly a prepper.) She fights back. Ronan does end up saving her, but then not really believing she's a "civilian." Ronan's boss sees potential in Bonnie and recruits her for the Irish Fianna. The Fianna sounds a lot like an Irish version of the Illuminati.

The next day at work, nothing is mentioned about the security guard's death nor the other dead men. Everything was cleaned up. Wesley got a promotion to exclusively work on Mr. Adams' accounts because no one can find Todd. Wesley gets to bring one person with him, so he chose Bonnie; thus, she also got promoted. Wesley seems nice, but I'm against romances with power differences, boss/subordinate or professor/student.

Bonnie agrees to join the Fianna, which is good because they'd likely have killed her otherwise. She does it to protect Wesley. She's partnered with Ronan, who isn't happy about it. Their bickering is fun. He's given the task of training her. The Fianna do test Bonnie at one point, which made me question the whole operation. It was this that made me see how far-fetched this story was, but I was involved by now. The last page has Bonnie and Ronin being assigned to their first assassination together.
Most people wouldn't be excited by that.

Anyway, YMMV with this story. I do want to see how it all turns out.

One of the first graphic novels I’ve ever read… and I’m officially OBSESSED. ✨

Accidental Assassin Vol. 1 by Molly Ni Cheileachair completely swept me away. I loved absolutely everything about it! The story is addictive, the pacing is perfect, and the characters feel so real that after a few pages it honestly felt like I already knew them.

Instant love for Ronan, the dark and broody spy who I already KNOW is hiding the softest heart underneath all that mystery and grumpiness… maybe especially for a certain redhead who dresses in pink, wears fruit-and-flower earrings, looks harmless, but absolutely knows how to survive and defend herself. 👀

And then there’s Bonnie… the redhead in question. Bonnie is an absolute force of nature. After surviving an attack from assassins (with Ronan there witnessing the whole thing while she basically saves herself), she gets recruited into the Fianna, a secret society dedicated to protecting the world from dangerous threats. And honestly? One of the reasons she joins is simply because she wants adventure and a shake-up from ordinary life, which made me love her even more.

Now Bonnie and Ronan are forced to work together… very reluctantly on both sides. Which, of course, is EXACTLY the kind of dynamic I adore.

This graphic novel already has everything I love reading about: strong, layered protagonists who are beautifully “drawn” both literally and figuratively, mystery, action, tension, and an enemies-to-lovers dynamic that I’m already convinced will become friends-to-lovers and eventually true, epic lovers. 😭

I genuinely cannot wait to see where this story goes next. In fact, I’m already tempted to hunt down the rest of the story on Webtoon because there’s no way I can patiently wait to see how these two survive their first mission together.

A fun, action-packed read perfect for fans of secret organizations, trained assassins, high-stakes missions, and fierce female protagonists. While the romance takes a backseat, the thrilling plot and strong heroine make this an entertaining start to the series. Bonnie is an absolute badass! It was refreshing to read about a strong, capable FMC who can truly take care of herself. The artwork is vibrant and beautifully illustrated, bringing every action-packed scene to life panel by panel. Fans of Spy x Family who are looking for a more serious, action-focused story will likely enjoy this one.:

Going into to this I was already very familiar with Webtoon and in turn Webtoon Unscrolled. I really enjoy the creativity that people have in their art and their stories. This one was no different. I had never delved into Accidental Assassin on Webtoon until I got this ARC.

The main premise of the story follows Bonnie whom everyone assumes is just another ditsy redhead who is struggling to survive her mundane corporate life. One night during an overtime shift she ends up stumbling upon an attack at her office building. During the attack she proves she knows how to defend herself and that she’s more than people think. This in turn gets her scouted for Fianna a secret organization that wants to use her as an assassin. The only obstacle in her way of changing up her mundane life is our other main character Ronan the top operative of the organization and her soon to be partner.

First of I absolutely loved the slight nod to Irish mythology. I always love when stories find a way to bring other countries history into their work. For those unfamiliar the Fianna were hunter warriors which in this book has then turned into this elite organization charged with making things right that the law can’t (Mercenaries in a sense).

This book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time and has in turn made me want to go to Webtoon to continue reading before the next volume comes out. The characters are all so well written and you genuinely get invested into Bonnie’s life. You can almost find yourself resonating with her in the sense of I’m sure we’ve all wanted something more than the mundane at times. The artwork as well just add so much to it. Truly the illustrator is so talented and it truly adds so much to the story.

Overall if you are a fan of the world of secret organizations and assassins, hesitant partners, and a girl who may look ditzy on the outside but knows how to pack a punch then this book is perfect for you! I definitely implore people who may not even read comics to check this out!

I do love when a story has any kind of secret organization and I REALLY enjoyed this graphic novel! It's a quick fun read with art that's so colorful and punchy. You can really see the emotions on the characters faces and from their body language. The story feels original with interesting characters, great leads, a secret organization based on Irish lore, and plenty of action and suspense. It's a great start to the series, giving just enough information to hook you and leave you wanting to know more about what's going on, the characters backgrounds, and who Bonnie can really trust. Even just based on the cover we know some kind of romance is brewing between Bonnie and Ronan but I like how he doesn't immediately stop being a broody, antisocial man that falls at the FMC's feet right away and Bonnie already has a major crush on a friend to add to the drama. They're a perfect example of the grumpy x sunshine dynamic who are forced to work together and I can't wait for their chemistry to pick up! Bonnie is a good balance of bright and bubbly with plenty of sass and determination, I found her to be unexpected in the best way. Ronan is dark, broody, powerful, and trying to get rid of his new partner ASAP but he's also protective and genuinely cares. The differences between them create great tension--and not just due to attraction--which I love to read. I'll definitely be continuing with this series and recommend it to anyone who likes colorful, fun graphic novels that are fast-paced with a good mix of action and character development.

I enjoyed my time reading this first volume of Accidental Assassin. Bonnie was immediately a somewhat relatable character to me. She wears strawberry earrings and cute outfits. She seems fun and bubbly on the outside, but she takes her job very seriously and is often underestimated. I can really relate to that. What I can’t relate with is her survival instincts and ability to disarm someone with a pen. She has these badass skills, but doesn’t present in the way one would normally assume of someone with that background. I love that about her character and want her to succeed. She is very likable and the duality of her personality is really interesting to me.

The plot is exciting and action packed while not being overwhelming. It is strong with a good flow and moves at a good pace where you can feel the plot moving forward, but it also moves slow enough for you to get to know the characters.

I would love to get to know more about the characters. They are all interesting people and I would love to hear their backstories. Rowan is especially interesting, being the mysterious and stoic love interest. I love how in this moment in time they just met and are at odds. The tension is already palpable and delicious. That leaves me eager for an exciting love story to come.

This was a very solid first volume leaving you wanting more – which should be the exact goal of a first volume. You should get enough information to be invested, while still leaving a lot to come to keep the reader interested – this story does that well. I will be keeping up with future volumes!

I had such a great time reading this graphic novel. It was a little outside of what my usual scope is so that was a really nice change. The art work is absolutely gorgeous and as someone obsessed with Ireland, I was immediately interested once I knew it was set there. Bonnie didn’t have a conventional upbringing, her dad spent most of the time teaching her how to survive and protect herself. She’s now an accounting intern at a fintech company in Ireland. After she inadvertently foils a theft an assassination attempt while working late one night, she finds herself being recruited by a secret organization called Fianna who are interested in one of her firm’s top and most paranoid clients Mr. Adams. Bonnie and her friend Wesley are quickly reassigned to work solely on Mr. Adams accounts in the Dublin City center office. Bonnie must balance her life as an accountant with her secret training as a Fianna agent with her reluctant partner Ronan. This was fast paced, and so interesting. Bonnie’s childhood training proved be useful enough to keep her alive and gain Fianna’s interest but the hard work is now getting started. Ronan is reluctant to say the least, he thinks he works better alone and sees Bonnie as a liability. The chemistry between these two is definitely electric and it’s giving very “they’re either going to fall madly and passionately in love or kill each other”. I have nothing but good things to say about this book and I can’t wait for the next volume. I think secret assassins might definitely be my jam now.

This was absolutely adorable, I loved it! Bonnie had an unexpected childhood - one where her father taught her an unusual set of skills. Although she works an office job in accounting, it isn't until she finds herself in the middle of a break-in that she needs to rely on those old skills. This grabs the attention of the Fianna, an organization I wish existed in real life - set on making sure that the bad guys don't take over the world, and that the what's *right* comes before *what'll make someone money*. Not only that, but she's now been partnered with Ronan, a prickly-but-handsome agent who can't take her seriously as a potential agent. Heads butting together, Bonnie is determine to prove she belongs there, and not let go of the opportunity to spice up her very vanilla, boring corporate life.

The pacing was great - sometimes it's difficult when these come out in short little volumes and it feels "cut off" mid story by the time you get to the end. This one had a nice overall arc, with of course a dangling carrot of a cliff hanger at the end making you wish there was more than one volume available. The art style was beautiful, and I felt like the dialogue came naturally (sometimes this isn't the case). Overall I really enjoyed this one and have yet another beloved graphic novel to add to my "can't wait for the next installment to come out!"* list.

Bonnie seems like a normal office worker, but after a late night break in at work, she catches the eye of the Fianna, a secret group fighting crimes without the confines of the law. Her partner? The elite, grumpy, and very handsome agent Ronan. The Fianna's next target? A shady client at her office job. Now thrown into a dangerous new world, Bonnie is determined to prove her capabilities and keep her coworker, who is also her best friend and crush, Wes, safe.

I was immediately drawn to the vibrant artwork, lively characters, and fast-paced action scenes. I enjoyed the contract between Bonnie's cute, feminine style and her fighting abilities. While capable and handsome, I did not find Ronan's personality to be very likable. I know it's an enemies-to-lovers situation, but he stayed mostly mysterious during this volume, so I didn't have any kind of backstory or character depth to balance out the grouchiness. I also didn't think he and Bonnie had much chemistry. I fear I have second ML syndrome, for I like Wes a LOT more for Bonnie (so far!).

Even though the characters are highly skilled assassins working for a secret organization, the stakes didn't feel particularly high due to the tone, which is much more rom-com vs romantic thriller/mystery. It doesn't really make any sense to pair up a newbie with "survival instincts" with the top agent going after one of the most dangerous people in Ireland. It still made for a fun and entertaining read, though!

I am a subscriber to the webtoon so was really interested to see how this would translate to a comic form.

For one I think it did well, the pages have nice layouts and all the action translated well. Some pages I did find cramped with lots of text, in the webtoon these were paced out as you have to scroll to them. This made the comic version seem more intense in some parts and I almost had the wanting to look at the pictures before reading the words, so had to slow myself down. Which could make the pages seem a little chaotic. There were also some weird cuts (like page 211) where there was just extra lines (picture from previous page, cut wrong??) but it did not take away from the story.

Now the story! Eeeee I love it! Having your typical MC of "I don't look like I can fight, but indeed I can kick butt" is so refreshing. It's not like she needs to be trained into it, and can keep up with the military/other members no problem. I very much like the fact that we are having hints at some backstory, like why was Bailey trained from such a young age? Is Wesley trustworthy? I have my suspicions! Having all this added throughout the story makes me want to continue as I want to know the answers! I think they ended this volume at a really good spot too, as what's to come does have a turning point.

Overall very well done, and I hope they continue since this will bring this to more people!

Bonnie “Bon” Baily works in a corporation’s accounts receivable department. Her co-workers have no idea about Bon’s unusual upbringing. A late night at the office turns into an attack by assassins. Bonnie manages to take one down with ease, which gets her invited to join a secret organization called the Fianna. Her new partner is not exactly thrilled to be paired with her. Now Bonnie must balance her job at Fintech with her internship to the Fianna.

Bonnie may look like a ditsy, airheaded damsel. However, looks are deceiving. She has been trained, by her father, in how to survive and protect herself. Skills that are not necessary or needed in her corporate job. It is something that Bonnie does not broadcast to others around her.

The art style reminds me of comic books than manga. How the panels are drawn, the direction they are read, and the flow of the story. It took me a while to realize not to read this like I would a manga. I am not too familiar with web comics and only read a few comics like Critical Role and comic versions of my favorite romance book series (example Kinley MacGregor/Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Avalon series).

There are two aspects that drew my particular interest in this webcomic: that the story takes place in Ireland (sucker for anything Irish) and there is a secret organization called Fianna. I have always been fascinated by Celtic lore, so I am somewhat familiar with the Fianna.

This volume is pure chaotic fun. It's bright, silly, violent, and surprisingly charming. Bonnie is an office worker with a survivalist upbringing, which gives her just enough instinct to stumble through situations she has absolutely no business surviving. She's cute, pink, loves fruit shaped jewelry, and constantly underestimated… sometimes correctly.

The tone swings between cartoonish violence and romcom energy. One minute she is stabbing a guy in the eye with a pen, the next she's in a chibi panel being dramatic. It shouldn't work, but it kinda does. The art is expressive and colorful, which keeps the whole thing feeling playful even during the violence.

Ronan is the classic grumpy stoic counterpart, and even though his attachment to Bonnie sometimes feels sudden, the chemistry is there. Their dynamic ends up being one of the most entertaining parts of the volume.

It's a fast, colorful read that never takes itself too seriously, and it leaves you curious about where the story will go next.

Did everyone else already know that Wattpad was publishing comics?? I didn't know that and was pleasantly surprised by my first foray into their catalog.

Accidental Assassin, Vol 1 features Bonnie, our main heroine with a mysterious past. While she is now an ordinary office worker, she was trained in survival skills by her father. These skills pay off after thugs break into her office and attempt to kill her. It's during this encounter that she meets Ronan, who we later find out is the member of an secret Irish organization of assassins. And to both Bonnie and Ronan's surprise, Ronan's supervisor extends an invitation to Bonnie to join them.

Initially, I felt that things were moving along too fast in the first 25% percent of the book, but as the story progresses I felt like this first volume was a good snapshot of this world. At the end, I felt invested and wanted to know more about the characters.

The story is also described by marketing as a "slow burn" and it is! It's always a pleasant surprise when the characters aren't pigeon-holed into an insta-love plotline. Another added bonus to this comic, that I'm not used to seeing because I usually read manga, is the whole thing is in color! It added another layer to the story and I look forward to volume 2.

While an enjoyable read, this wasn't a standout title for me.

Our main character, Bonnie, is living up that corporate life when one night, while working overtime, she finds a dead assassin - and another one comes after her! Here she meets Ronan, who is part of a secret organization that recruits Bonnie after seeing her remarkable survival instincts. Throughout the first volume, Bonnie felt like a thought-out character, with glimpses into her backstory and a child-like and determined quality to her actions that stayed consistent. I did not feel the same about Ronan; he was a rock. I haven't read the Webtoon, but I'm hopeful we'll see more of his backstory and personality emerge in future volumes.

A title like "Accidental Assassin" brings to mind other potentially related titles like Spy x Family. What makes titles like Spy x Family thrive are the characters - their motives, backstories, and who they become when put together in different situations. While I could get a feel for Bonnie's character and backstory, her motive is not entirely clear and at most, feels superficial. When put in situations with Ronan, it doesn't feel like too much changes. The potential is there, though, so I'm hopeful things will escalate and we'll learn more in future volumes.

This was such a fun first volume! The artwork immediately pulled me in, and I quickly remembered why I enjoy the WEBTOON format so much. Between the expressive character art, dynamic action scenes, and cinematic panel layouts, I found myself flying through the pages.

The standout for me was the relationship between Bonnie and her stoic assassin mentor. Their chemistry develops through training, trust, and mutual respect rather than instant romance, making the slow burn feel earned. Bonnie is determined and impulsive but also refreshingly vulnerable, while her mentor’s quiet protectiveness and “push because I believe in you” approach made him my favorite character. I also have to acknowledge Bonnie’s completely impractical assassin uniform—it makes absolutely no practical sense, but somehow it works perfectly within the tone of the story.

This volume is very much the beginning of a larger story, so readers should expect a cliffhanger rather than a complete resolution. That didn’t bother me because I was genuinely invested by the end and immediately wanted to know what happens on Bonnie’s first mission.

Who Should Read This?
Readers who enjoy WEBTOONs, action-comedies, slow-burn romance, mentor/student dynamics, protective love interests, and expressive artwork will likely have a great time with this first volume.

I really liked this comic!! This introduction was quick, easy to digest, and super easy to get sucked into. From the very beginning, I was fully invested in the story and the characters.

I LOVE anything involving spies, assassins, secret organizations, or undercover missions, so this was already right up my alley. And then you add in the VERY obvious romance tension happening between the characters?? YES PLEASE. Give me MORE immediately.

I also really enjoyed the art style throughout the comic. It balanced the humor and the more serious moments so well. The funny expressions and lighter scenes made the characters feel so charming, but when the story needed to get serious, the artwork shifted perfectly to match the tone. I especially loved the mix of tension, light hatred/rivalry, and underlying chemistry between the characters because it made every interaction feel entertaining.

Overall, this was such a fun start to the series, and I’m already excited to continue reading and see where both the action and romance go next.

And the skills get her the second job - as an apprentice at Fianna, a secret organization of assassins inspired by a group of legendary Irish heroes who corral the chaos of an evil ridden world by any means necessary. But this new job isn't all sunshine and pastel plushies - her new partner, Ronan Clarke think's she's nothing more than a joke. It'll take all of her can-do attitude to survive both her training, and her missions against the Irish underworld's deadliest forces.

I love a lighthearted assassin story, and this book definitely slaked my thirst for "I'm just a girl" meets "unresolved childhood trauma morphing into the kind of secondary skill sets weirdos on LinkedIn like to monologue about", in the best way! Fast-paced and with a healthy slug of reluctant-coworkers-to-??? with a side serving of workplace-friends-turned-??? tropes, this was a fun and sometimes dark starter to a series I'll definitely be following! I think this would also be a great jumping off point for those who don't read a lot of graphic novels but who'd like to start!

Bonnie Bailey is an office worker who is just trudging through her boring life in an accountant-adjacent job in Ireland, crushing on her best friend, when she finds herself pulled into a world of handsome assassins and gorgeous secret agents. Fortunately, her father trained her with a very particular set of skills so she's ready to swim with the sharks.

WEBTOON books are usually pretty reliable for me, but this one doesn't quite satisfy. It feels too much like that silly Argylle movie with Bryce Dallas Howard from a couple years back. For an intel mission to the docks, for instance, Bonnie armors up in high heels and a long skirt with a slit up to her crotch and visible straps for her shoulder holster under her suit jacket. I can imagine Marisa Tomei looking her up and down in the shipping yard and sneering, "Oh, yeah, you blend."

So cheesy, but in the gooey and sticky way, not the fun way.

On the plus side, it's a quick read. I picked it up meaning to only read the first half, but when my allotted time was up, I only needed ten more minutes to get to the end, so I forged ahead.

An interesting start to a series about an accountant (who insists she’s not an accountant) accidentally gets wrapped up in an organization that mostly carries out assassinations and occasionally spy craft.

This was a nice read that I am interested to see where the series leads. The art is good, and I appreciate that the FMC is drawn with realistic proportions, but I had to roll my eyes when her assassin uniform included high heels.

The inciting incident is a fun rom-com/action setup, which I appreciated.

The FMC has an interesting backstory that makes her transition to an assassin a little more believable, but it is strange that she’s so out of shape given all of the things we know about her background. I appreciate that she is feminine but still can hold her own, and that she knows her limits of what she can realistically do in a fight at this stage in her training.

I’m not a veteran in the spy thriller genre, so the setting in Ireland struck me as novel. But I was disappointed that it barely functioned as a setting, adding almost no life to the story other than the bit about the organization’s ties to Irish legends. Also the characters don’t even use slang, phrases, or mannerisms that make them seem like actual Irish people. The comic could’ve taken place in NYC or London with almost no difference.

I am so glad that this was turned into a graphic novel. This is a story about a girl who was raised by a single dad, and she was raised to protect herself. Years later, she's working a monotonous job in finance with her new bestie Wesley, who is her only friend. However, when an assassin shows up one night while she's working late, she is able to stand her ground and protect her sensitive files, even though it seems another assassin is also on the case. Due to her impressive instincts, she is offered a position with the Fianna. Now, she has to decide if she's ready to blow up her life for the excitement that she's been looking for.

I really enjoyed this. It was almost a 5 star for me, but I would have liked a bit more background on her father and their relationship. I also would have like a little more action in the field. I know this is only Vol. 1, but I still feel like the whole book shouldn't have just been a build up. That said, I loved Bonnie. I would read about her just walking through her daily boring life. She is whimsical in her own right and also somehow feels personable. I was left wanting a bit too much, but I still gave this 4.5 stars.

This was a quick and fun read but ultimately for being episodes 1-14 of the webtoon, I don't feel like this collection had enough actual plot progress. The art is vibrant and pretty. I love that our FMC is a girly girl with strawberry earrings, is unafraid to show her femininity but also has a strong side to her. Though I felt a bit disappointed when we are meant to see her as this super cool girl who has what it takes to be in this world and yet when we get to training and the trials, I felt like she wasn't capable of that. I love a good training montage and seeing someone become strong and what not but with all the backstory put into why she knows these things and her 'good instincts' I just expected more from her. I would love to see more growth and progress to her as the series goes. I usually rank graphic novels a bit higher than novels because it's easy to forgive these things as I know it's only a part of the whole so there could be all of this and more in the series. That being said, this was a 3.5 ⭐️ for me and I would love to see if the rest of the series can appeal to me more. The premise is cool and I like the dynamics of friendships building here. I can see good potential to it!

She was not supposed to be still at work at that time. What was supposed to be just some overtime ended up becoming a demonstration of her special survivor abilities. That night, Bonnie meets Ronan, an assassin working for Fianna, a secret organization who ends up taking notice of her special set of skills and recruits her as an apprentice and Ronan's partner.

Great art work, action-packed story from the beginning. Although the text gets a bit repetitive at some moments, the story progressed at a good pace and kept me hooked until the end. The action and violence are not overly graphic, remaining quite light for this type of story. I just wished it would have been divided into chapters, to help with the flow. Also, in this type of comics or graphic novels, I find the characters are portrayed in a way that they just sound dense, a bit too naive. The style is imitating manga but sometimes the characters, specially the main female one, instead of being quirky and cute, seem immature and childish but want to be taken seriously at the same time.

Overall, it is entertaining and fun. Ronan and Bonnie are a great pair!
