Avoiding love is hard. Catching a killer can be fatal. . .
When Rob's sister passed away, she left him her dog and her house. He can handle the dog part, but he doesn't need another home. Especially a fixer-upper the neighbor swears is haunted. Then he meets Bridget, who's working on getting her life back together after a car accident left her scarred in more ways than one. She can't pass up Rob's offer of free lodging, regardless of the shape it's in. Or the roommate that's part of the package. She's never believed in ghosts, but now she's living with one who wants Bridget's help in catching a killer. There's only one problem: the killer has unfinished business. . .
Stacy McKitrick fell in love with paranormal romance, decided to write her own, and found her passion in life. Born and raised in California, she currently resides in Ohio with her husband. This is my first book by this author and the first in this series and I loved it. But I have to dock 1/2 star but I'll get to that later. So 4.5 ghostly stars.
Bridget has been in an accident and has the scars to show it. She is trying to get her life together and well she isn't doing so well. She is being smothered by her mother and living with her parents not working as a nurse any more and is fed up of depening on others to help her. Brid now works at her cousins cleaning out the kennels and helping the animals. She has after her near death experience acquired a specific talent.
One rainy day after falling into a ditch she meets Rob Gentry. Rob lost his parents and then he lost his sister Charlie. It looks like an OD but that isn't clear until Brid moves in to Charlie's house as a housesitter and sees Charlie's ghost. Rob is amazing I loved his character so much. He is patient, hot and all round good guy.
I loved Charlie she rocked and was an awesome roomie. Her dog kept on licking air in the house and noone knew why.
The book is well written and it keeps you interested all the way through there is not one boring moment included. What I didn't like was that there is being stubborn and pigheaded and then there is Bridget. Need I say more?
I would recommend this to everyone and can't wait for the second book in the series.
This ARC was given to me by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Cringe alert! This book is the epitome of awkward. Awkward romance, awkward dialogue, awkward pacing, awkward love scenes, awkward plot, awkward characters, awkward mystery, awkward cussing, awkward writing. *shudders*
This was such an entertaining story... I found myself falling in love with Rob a little bit. How can you not love a man who cries because he loves his dog and screams because he's scared of snakes?? Yep... the man of my dreams! Rob's sister passed away but she has "unfinished business" and now she's a ghost hanging out in the house where she died. Rob offers to allow Bridget to stay in the home as a house sitter while he makes repairs. Bridget was in a terrible accident in which she was in a coma... she recovered but now has emotional and physical scars and she's having trouble moving on... oh, and now she has a strange gift that allows her to see ghosts! Add that to her helicopter hovering mom and an opportunity to move into Rob's house while she continues to recuperate is a welcome change. Except for the part where she meets his sister Charlie. I loved Charlie and her ghost character was written so well. Her relationship with Bridget throughout the book was so entertaining. If you're going to be haunted by a ghost... she's who you want. She's not just a ghost, she's your best friend and she's quite the clever one. There is also the mother daughter connection... I am always a sucker for mom's and their relationships with their daughters in stories. Even though mom hovers, if you are a mom, you get it! It's a mother's worse fear to almost lose their child. She's obsessed with protecting her... This story is very engaging and entertaining from beginning to end... and, even though we've seen these type stories before... it's still original and fun because it's written so well. My only annoyance with the book is the overuse of the expression "Hell's Belle's"... it was cute at first but got old after a while... and Bridget being bullheaded was a bit extreme. But, those are small complaints compared to the overall story. I will definitely be continuing with this series.
Stacy McKitrick’s Ghostly Liaison (Ghostly Encounters, #1) introduces the reader to a female ghost who is floating above her own body thinking “Am I dead?” right at the beginning of the book. Charlie, the ghost, is confused as what has happened until she spots a particular item connected to her body. Charlie leaves all she has to her brother, Rob. This includes her house (in need of fixing-up) and her dog. Rob, although in the construction business, does not need another fixer-upper, but he gladly scoops up Charlie’s dog, the day he finds his sister’s body. He loved Charlie a great deal and having her dog will, hopefully, ease his pain. The story takes place in a small town, and news of this kind travels fast. Cause of death = suicide. Charlie is shouting to Rob that this ‘verdict’ is wrong, but Rob does not hear anything. Enter a young woman, Bridget, whose bicycle has ‘crashed’. Rob stops to assist her, but she backs away. Rob realizes this woman is scared, and she looks thin and weak. Bridget informs Rob that she is or was on her way to work with the local vet, her cousin, and Rob places her bike in the back of his truck and delivers her to her cousin’s veterinary clinic. Rob becomes aware that he feels quite comfortable with Bridget, but he also notices she keeps her head down while riding in his truck. He feels her unhappiness and wants to help her. Her cousin asks Rob if Bridget could housesit Rob’s sister’s place as Rob fixes it up to sell. Rob thinks that it is a great idea as he could see Bridget when working on Charlie’s house. The young woman agrees as she wishes to be on her own and not living with her parents. Rob wants to help this woman for more than one reason, and his sister’s house is closer to Bridget’s work. Thus, Rob now has a house sitter and Charlie’s dog takes to Bridget from the start. Rob feels that this new face in town is special, but her cousin, the vet, tells Rob ‘hands off’, but does not explain why. Rob is willing to wait to discover this woman’s story. When she moves into Charlie’s house, Bridget sees, hears, and , at times, even feels Charlie. Charlie has a roommate and is thrilled. The new roommate fears she is losing her mind because she can see Charlie, a ghost., but then Charlie tells her new roomy her story, and the roomy wants to help, but how? Can Rob wait for this special woman to tell him her story? Why does it seem that this beautiful new face is carrying great emotional weight? I applaud the author for developing an emotional male character. I wish more men wold show their emotions. 3.5-4 stars.
This was a page-turner. I love I-see-dead-people stories and I live for romance so I was sure this was going to be a winner. And, in a way, it was. I was glued to the pages and I liked that the ghost, Charlie, was a main character.
But... Some of the actions and reactions of the characters boggled my mind. Dude. A Ghost. A Ghost is telling you she was murdered. Murdered by a family friend and this is your reaction?:
Not only that but you're falling for her brother, who obviously knows this family friend. Freak out already! At least act impressed or awed or the least bit worried.
Seriously, it took Bridget so long to make me believe she felt anything. The only thing she seemed worried about was her scars and independence from her doting mother. I couldn't feel this deep, soul connection Robbie claimed they had with each other.
Eventually, Bridget got with the program and started to give the murder mystery the seriousness it deserved. But the love between her and Robbie still remained lukewarm in my opinion.
All in all, this was a great story, but it fell short in the romance department for me. I would have liked to have seen a little bit more relationship building in the beginning before Charlie's revelations were front and center.
I really enjoyed Rob and Bridget. Having Charlie the ghost added a whole other dimension to the story. I loved the way the story unfolded and the growth of the characters. Bridget struggled to come to terms with her scars as well as her ability to talk to ghosts. It was a great story.
What a terrific story! I love books that involve ghosts. This ghost is not happy because someone cut her life short by murdering her. She's not gonna rest (no pun intended, ha,ha) until she finds him & offs him somehow.
This book had a lot of funny moments. The ghost's brother, Rob, is our Hero and he meets our heroine, Bridget, that needs somewhere to stay (who just so happens to see ghosts due to a brush with death from a car accident. Of course she keeps the ghost part to herself (wouldn't want anyone thinking she's flipped her lid, right).
Bridget finds out quickly that she's not alone in the house. Her new room mate is our ghost, Charlie. Charlie is ecstatic that someone can see and hear her. She's determined to find her killer and get rid of him somehow. She gets Bridget to help her but manages to keep it from her brother (for now).
That's more or less the outline of the book. Oops, I failed to mention that as things progress on the trek to find clues surrounding Charlie's death, Rob and Bridget get closer (he still doesn't know about Charlie being there). Eventually, this closeness obviously leads to romance, but it is slow going.
It wraps up nicely, except saying goodbye to Charlie, that was so sad for me. I do think you should give it a go if you like PNR, suspense, & love to laugh. Btw, Charlie's dog was hilarious. He kept licking the air and people would wonder what was wrong the dog. It just had me in stitches. Yeah, I believe this is a keeper.
A murder mystery, ghosts, romance - all called to me and said 'Read me!' So I did. :D This is the first in a series and as such the world building, specifically the ghosts, was a little weak, but it was intriguing. Bridget can see ghosts but not when other people are around, only when she and the ghost are alone. Even if someone is a distance away but looking in their, she can't see the ghost. Why do some ghosts stay and some move on? Where do they go? Why can ghosts solidify sometimes but not others? It seemed to be at the author's convenience, what she needed to happen in the story, but maybe she'll expand on it in the next book.
Rob was a sweet guy with a heck of a lot of patience. Bridget is emotionally and physically scarred from a car accident and though she's physically healed, emotionally she's not. She pushes him repeatedly interspersed with times when she can't resist him. He never gave up on her but kept coming. He backed off whenever she wanted him to but he didn't walk away. At times, I wondered why not? But his attraction to her was strong. He was a sweet guy - he cried when his dog was sick, got emotional thinking about his dead parents and sister, was sentimental, and took good care of Bridget even she squawked. And she squawked A LOT. She did not like people caring for her. Partly it was because her mother had been hovering, fussing, and worrying ever since the accident and partly it was just Bridget's personality. She was prickly, sensitive, and easy to tease.
That latter appealed to Charlie, the ghost of Rob's sister. Charlie, whether dead or alive, loved to harass and tease people for no other reason than she could. She was frequently rude and thoughtless. But she also loved her brother Rob, wanted justice for her death, and worked to help Bridget get over her fear and let herself love Rob. All of the characters were interesting, though a few seemed to be there more as devices to make things happen than as real, essential characters. The interactions were believable and McKitrick has a sense of humor that appealed to me. The story hooked me early on and kept me reading, I read it in two sittings. The mystery of Charlie's death was not who did it but why and how to prove it. The proving was a bit coincidental and easy as was Charlie's intervention near the end of the story. But I was enjoying myself and was caught up enough that though I noticed the unlikeliness of the events, they didn't affect my enjoyment.
"Ghostly Liaison" is a romance first, then a paranormal, then a mystery. The different elements work together well and the story flows along, taking you along for the ride to the end. I will probably pick up the next book.
Ghostly Liaison is unlike any paranormal book I've ever read. Sure, I've read a few books about ghosts but Ghostly Liaison took seeing dead people to a whole new level.
After a car accident that killed her, then put her in a coma for months after she was resuscitated, Bridget is finally starting to get her life back on track.... Other than the pesky hallucinations she's been having. On her first day to work in her cousin's veterinary office she runs into Rob and the sparks immediately fly.
Rob instantly knows that Bridget is the one, and though her cousin has deemed her off-limits, he can't help offering her to stay at his sister's house while he works on fixing it up after the previous tenants left it in shambles. And Bridget, who is desperate to get out from under her parents roof, jumps on the opportunity.
It's there that Bridget meets Charlie, Rob's deceased sister, and learns that her hallucinations haven't been hallucinations at all... She see's and hear's ghosts. While Rob believed that Charlie committed suicide, Charlie confides in Bridget that she was murdered and the two work together to figure out how to get proof.
While there is a blossoming romance between Bridget and Rob, mainly Rob trying to get close and Bridget pushing him away because she feels he deserves better, what really kept my focus was Charlie... Will they be able to find proof that she was murdered so that she can finally move on?
Well of course I can't tell you that, but I can tell you that if you are a fan of paranormal you should definitely check out Ghostly Liaison.

I loved Rob's mind, "lots of things were better. Such as kissing her, or loving her, or waking up beside her. Hell, anything to do with her. Right now he was thankful to have had dinner with her." I didn't really make a lot of notes or highlights in the book because I was so into it. I loved it, I had read other books by Stacy and I loved them and I knew I would love this one as well.
I loved the premise of this book. Ghosts, romance, a killer on the loose... I was hooked and picked this up. I found the supernatural part slightly odd. Bridget can see ghosts but only when she's alone. Huh. The suspense was great and the romantic tension was well done. I just had a hard time with the whole ghost thing and was unable to suspend my belief.
I enjoyed this book. There was something so sweet about it. It made me feel that if anyone has ever lost a loved one, perhaps the loved one is nearer to them than they think.
BookBub recommended this book for me - and I get anything they give me - so I read it and couldn't stop, read it in less than 24 hours - now i have to wait HOW LONG to read the next one?! WAHHHHHHH .. I LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT
This book wasn't too bad, I liked Rob, he was a good guy, but Bridget got on my nerves from time to time. Seemingly so smart at one point, and completely clueless the next. The book was worth the read though so go for it.
What a fun ghost story. Not only do we get a mystery to unravel, but we get a romance to boot. I recently met the author at a book convention and I cannot be more pleased with her recommendation of which of her books to read as a new reader. I like ghost stories as long as they are not horror. I said this to her, and she immediately aimed me towards this story. It's not one of her newer releases but from a reader standpoint....does it need to be the most recent release? Not at all.
Rob is reeling from the death of his sister, and wasn't expecting to meet a woman, much less Bridget. She's fallen in a mud puddle, filthy head to toe and he's coming to her rescue whether she wants him to or not. Add in a nosy neighbor, a vet and her clinic, and Barnaby the dog and this story rounded out into everything I was looking for. Oh...did I mention the ghost? A whole lot of humorous moments are tied in throughout the story, and there are some pure emotional moments too.
Bridget’s life changed completely in one moment. While driving her best friend’s car she stalled being unused to a stick. A drunk driver slammed into the stalled car sending it careening into the nearby icy water. Her friend and her unborn baby died, Bridget was badly injured, actually had been dead for a few minutes before being brought back and had remained in a coma for close to a year.
Now recovering at her parent’s home, Bridget is ready to reclaim her life. She couldn’t go back to nursing, but her cousin had offered her a job at the animal clinic. At the moment that job was a lifesaver. Bridget was still suffering from intense headaches, which she kept from her mother who was now clingy and overprotective of the daughter she nearly lost. Bridget felt she was going crazy, smothered under her mother’s constant worrying – which is why she’s sneaking out of her house in a pouring rain storm with her bike so early in the morning… hoping to avoid another argument about her safety. Which might have been perfectly fine if she hadn’t slowed to pull off to the brim because of a sudden intense headache moment – and if a car hadn’t brushed by herr, causing the bike to crash and leaving her hurt, drenched and despondent in the rain drenched run-off stream.
Rob had recently lost his sister, Charlie to suicide. He wasn’t coping well at all and blamed himself for not keeping a closer eye on her after her boyfriend’s death. She was a recovering drug addict, and he should have suspected that she might return to using to block out her pain. Because his mind was on Charlie it really was fate that seemed to step in to have him noticing the injured, drenched biker on the side of the road. After seeing how backy Bridget’s bike was damaged and that she had some injuries of her own Rob had intended to take her to a nearby hospital and only relented to taking Bridget to the animal clinic as she insisted knowing that her cousin could look after her needs almost as well.
The house that Charlie was living in stood vacant now. Rob had planned to do some work on it, being in the construction business himself and perhaps rent it out. It had belonged to their parents but now it was his, and it hurt to be inside the place where his sister had died. He felt the freezing air surround him at times, oddly only in certain spots. But it was further proof that the house needed more work. During the time Bridget was being tended Rob had spoken with her cousin and between them had thought that offering the house rent free in exchange for house sitting would be a good solution to Bridget’s family troubles.
Neither of them knew that Bridget saw dead people. Or that Charlie was still in her home, desperate for someone to hear her and avenge her death. For she had not killed herself – she was murdered, and she knew who killed her.
From the opening scene of Ghostly Liaison you will be pulled into this story. This intriguing novel is a blend of many things – romance, mystery, suspense, ghosts and killers. I’ve given you a good setup of the basic beginning of this tale, perhaps more than i usually would but the story is a compelling, complicated and enjoyable tangle of characters, cross stories and emotions. I stayed up far too late to finish it because I simply could not walk away. Every ending of a chapter that I told myself was enough for the night lead me to need to know what was happening next.
I enjoyed all of the characters, and there are many secondary people who enhance this story – but by far my favorite was Charlie. She is feisty and straightforward – and one determined ghost.
Ghostly Liaison is a story that will draw you into a complicated tale, but don’t let that keep you away. I believe you will become invested in discovering how the killer will finally be caught as well as enjoying a love story with bumps along the way.
For a ghost story, this was rather sweet. I enjoyed it.
We begin with Bridget sneaking out of her parent’s house, afraid to wake her mother, and getting ready to ride her bike somewhere – in the rain. I wondered about this. I was expecting to read a ghost story or mystery. Why are we dealing with a delinquent sneaking out of her parent’s house? It just didn’t seem right.
Then I find out this is a 30 year old woman who has been recovering from a serious auto accident. This is her first day at a new job and she desperately wants to reassert her independence. Being an only child, mom is a bit overprotective. Okay, she is a helicopter mom and doesn’t think Bridget is ready to be on her own. No wonder Bridget is sneaking out. I think I would too.
So, when an offer to house sit a fixer-upper just around the corner from the new job presents itself, who wouldn’t jump on it? Even if it includes a rather unexpected house mate. Bridget thought she had been going crazy. As it turns out, she just sees ghosts. She can almost deal with that.
So begins a wonderfully fun and entertaining story. I mostly liked Bridget. She was strong with an independent streak a mile wide. She was also cautious. She liked to think things to death before acting. A few times her cautiousness and tendency to take extended guilt trips were just plain irritating. Like Charlie, the ghostly house mate, I sometimes wanted to yell at her or shove her into the moment. But once she had her mind made up and decided to take action, nothing deterred her. A rather interesting character.
Now Rob – Charlie’s brother – he was sometimes too good to be true. He owned a construction company inherited from his father so he was rather handy to have around. Rob was hot, nice, loved dogs, and just an all-round good guy. Like I said, almost too good to be true. However, he was an action type of guy, not very good at the office work. It was very obvious to me rather early on in the story that he was being taken advantage of. He sensed something wasn’t right, but didn’t know enough about the inner workings of the company to pinpoint what.
Charlie – the irritating little sister and house mate. Yes she is one of the main characters. Okay, so she is also a ghost. Doesn’t meant she isn’t important to the story. In fact, one might say she is the main character of the story. If not for her, there would be no story. It is all about how and why she died. It isn’t what Rob thinks it was just because she used to have a drug problem. Enter, the mystery and action.
This turned out to be a rather action packed adventure. Several heart-stopping moments, some near misses, a couple trips to the vet, a couple trips to the hospital, unexpected ghosts who aren’t totally friendly, and a little romance thrown in for spice. I liked how this ended. Although all the threads were tied up for this story, there was an opening for more. Since this indicates a book one, I will look forward to another “ghostly encounter.” This was fun.
I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
New author and her new series! Stacy McKitrick and her Ghostly Encounters!!!! And what an entertaining start it is for her series with her first book “Ghostly Liaison”.
Charlie is dead and leaves her home to her brother Rob, except that Charlie suddenly realizes that she is stuck between the worlds of life and death and there’s absolutely no one to help her. Rob on the other hand is busy trying to keep his inherited construction business running and has no time to fix his sister’s house to be sold, and neither does he have time to pay attention to the weird happenings in that house, as recited by Charlie’s neighbor.
Enters Bridget with a determination to make her life independent of her parents and a past that had left way too many scars to forget and move on. And as if the pain and trauma of her past is not enough, people, of the ghostly kind, now dog her. A chance encounter with Rob lands Bridget in Charlie’s house as the house sitter. And of course Charlie is just ecstatic that Bridget can see, talk and feel her and Bridget is her only hope to get to the bottom of her death.
As sad as it is that Charlie is dead, this is just such an entertaining story. Reminds me Casper, the warm and friendly ghost trying to do the right thing and make the best of the situation. As Bridget tries to help Charlie, Rob slowly starts falling in love with Bridget, and things sure take a deadly turn before they get better.
To be honest, I had no expectations of the book, but the story went beyond my expectations. It was one of the most engaging and delightful reads of a new author I’ve read in recent times. Charlie as the ghost was just sassy, hilarious and frustrating. Rob as the ever-protecting guy totally smitten by Bridget, and coming to terms with the death of his sister, was just a great lovable guy. And Bridget, with her dainty demeanor is one brave lady trying to help the ones only she can see, as well as tenacious to get to the bottom of the truth.
“Ghostly Liaison” is a surprise package of love and understanding, an engaging read of humor and wit, an emotional ride of pain and guilt, and an appealing journey of two people trying to find their way to each other with the blessings of the resident ghost.
Received an ARC from Kensington Books via Netgalley for an honest review.
The book starts with Rob discovering his sister Charlie, dead. He believes she has committed suicide because she emailed him a note; or did she? Charlie is there watching Rob find her body but she can’t do anything about it -- Rob can’t hear or see her.
She sees dead people… Bridget was in an accident that left her in a coma for nine months. She can see and hear Charlie when no one else is around, even when she doesn’t want to. Charlie needs help catching her murderer and to find out what happened to her dead boyfriend Nick so she pesters Bridget (who is housesitting Charlie’s old house for Rob) into assisting.
Rob and Bridget are attracted to each other but can there be a real relationship with a haunting sister in the mix? Rob pursues Bridget and as much as Bridget really likes Rob, can she overcome her issues with the lasting effects from her accident; not to mention overbearing parents and needy, bored and lonely ghosts, plus a greedy killer?
I was a bit lost in the beginning about Bridget and what happened to her but as the story progressed her accident and how it impacted her life and those around her (living and dead) became much clearer. Bridget was at times defensive and a bit shrewish and though I liked her character and understood her situation, her behavior irritated me on a few occasions. Rob seemed to be more emotional than Bridget which was amusing at times and odd at others.
There are some very touching moments in the book. I really liked Rob and Charlie’s dog, Barnaby (who also can see dead people). Charlie was a funny and quirky ghost who pretty much called Bridget on her crap; their “Odd Couple” relationship was entertaining. There were a couple surprises towards the end of the book that sets it up for the series. I enjoyed the book and Stacy McKitrick’s writing style and look forward to not only the next book in the series but reading her other books as well. Honest review for a free netgalley book.
"Avoiding love is hard. Catching a killer can be fatal. . . When Rob's sister passed away, she left him her dog and her house. He can handle the dog part, but he doesn't need another home. She's never believed in ghosts, but now she's living with one who wants Bridget's help in catching a killer. There's only one problem: the killer has unfinished business. . ." At first, the characters seemed a bit weak, especially Bridget, but as the story developped, so did the characters, and the reader slowly understood the reason for her behaviour. On the whole, a very enjoyable read with likeable and well developped characters, a very good plot and narration style, and a good mix of hilarious and sad moments - the interactions between Bridget and Rob's deceased sister Charlie were great fun, Bridget's struggle to get back to a normal life was heartbreaking. The epilogue was a plus and had me go "awwwwww".
I read my first of her books early last year and have since cruised through all of her works! There aren’t a lot, yet, but if she keeps this up it won’t be long before she has a list as long as my arm of five star review stories!
Yes, I’m giving her another five stars!
Ghostly Liaison is totally awesome! It’s an excellent weekend read! It may be be a Romance but it has a plot, a mystery, believable characters and I believe a tear or two dropped from my eyes.
What happens when a woman moves back in with her overbearing mother and supportive father after a life altering accident?
What happens when, at almost the same time as the accident, a brother discovers his sister dead in her bed?
Who killed her?
How do you resolve the guilt of being the driver in a deadly accident?
This is still a paranormal story but Ms. McKitrick has veered away from vampires this time and I must say she has done a most excellent job. I was hooked from the first word and actually begrudged the time needed for sleep and work: I wanted to READ!
Well done Ms. McKitrick. Please, send more of these wonderful stories our way!
Descriptive personalities that come alive throughout the story. Each character has their own unique take on the world adding a greater feel of cohesiveness to the story.
Unfortunately, one of the main characters is rather childish and comes across as much younger than she should be.
Plot: 3/5 Stars
Oversimplified version:
Predictable. Accident happens- depression and guilt set in- finds a man but pushes him away- the man is patient and takes it like a champ- they end up happily ever after.
Writing style: 4/5 Stars
Down to earth writing style with intellectual concepts strewn in for added depth.
Flow: 4/5 Stars Flowed well from idea to idea and chapter to chapter, with few grammatical errors. Also, each idea was fleshed out and plausible even though this is a paranormal novel.
Who is this book suited for?
People who enjoy Romance, Chick Lit, Beach reads or light Paranormal.
Loved the book can't wait for the second in series. Sometimes I do want to give a character the "snap out of it slap" but in this book Charlie gave Bridget the wake up she needed. Thank you Ms. McKitrick. This book had a bit of everything, just how I like them. Had mystery/intrigue, romance, and humor. Throw in a great pet, smart women, and a patient man and I could not put the book down. I love the bit of extended family and friend interaction. I also enjoyed the way the author made the lead characters fated to meet. It made me think it was just possible rather than not likely. Books are recreation and vacation and I enjoy a bit of magic and faith in this kind of story. I find I am enjoying many cozy mysteries for a change, and this was a great adjacent fit. Very fun, fast read. Great escape. Ready for book two, please. Okay, no spoilers I hope... Bridget 'hallucinates' and fears herself going crazy. Rob is attracted to her but fears she is crazy. Dead folk need assistance to move on (think Ghost Whisperer). Danger, fun and romance ensue. I did NOT get a free copy for my review. How do I do that?
This is a fascinating paranormal tale of falling in love, commuting to grips with a body that is less than perfection from scaring from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident, catching the killer who was identified early on but was very very slippery, as most con men are, and overcoming it all with love and commitment. There were plenty of gripping twists and turns to hold your attention as well as hot kisses and intimate scenes to stir your blood. I purchased this ebook from Kindle Amazon.com for $0.00. I will read it again and more by this very talented author, Stacy McKitrick. This is my unbiased review. I recommend ignoring biased negative review given by a supposedly unbiased person who got the book for free. Read for yourself and make up your own mind. I enjoyed this book very, very much! 10/10 Good Job Stacy McKitrick!
This story has a bit of everything... suspense, mystery, ghosts, romance, and even a bit of smut. What could be better, right? Well...not much.
Ghostly Liaison was a fast paced addictive book that will suck you in on the first page and wont let you go until well past the last. The writing was well done, and the dialogue flowed smoothly.
One of the things that I wasn't the biggest fan of, was Bridget's issues. She had been through a lot after her accident, I just wish that she had gained a little more strength sooner. I loved that she was damaged as a character, I just wish that she a bloomed a bit sooner. With that said, I loved Rob! What a sweet heart, and an all around good guy. I also really loved the use of Bridget's bitchy cousin as a comparison to Bridget herself.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinions*
Personally I loved this book. So what if you don't believe in Ghosts, so what if you know who the murder was in the beginning. The way the tale is told and written so wonderfully, keeps you reading. Kate is learning as she goes. If you have never lived through a major trauma you wouldn't completely understand what she is going through. Her healing and learning to deal with a new ability, and the patience of a man who loves her, is what this story is about. Add in some ghosts and drama and I have read a good book. I would love to see this one as a series, each book a stand alone but getting to solve some more mysteries for some ghosts that are stuck here. If you had the ability to help free their souls, wouldn't it be wonderful to help? I love the premise of the book, I love the story, I love the excellent writing.
