Joanne is thrilled to be having a party while her parents are away, but when strangers crash the party and a mysterious presence lingers in the house after everyone has gone home, her excitement quickly turns to terror
The main character is super irritating and the most boring teenager that ever existed. She freaks out about having a party even though there’s no alcohol, gets upset at things like too many people sitting on an armchair, and kicks all the kids out before 10pm. Wow. And we are supposed to believe that she and her friends had no idea what a vampire was...?
Idk man, this book was really tedious. At least it’s short. It must’ve been a lot easier to get a book published in 1991.
Joanne's parents are away, so her best friend pushes her to have a party. Even though she has reservations, she does, and a lot of strangers come as well. After the party, she gets a feeling she is not alone. When she finds she isn't and what is truly happening, it is horrifying and she might not live to tell the tale.
It wasn’t the worst vampire novel I’ve read, but I think that says more about me than this book. At least it’s short. Extra points for the silly but fun cover.
This is the first I've read of Plante's work, and I'd say this is a case of the cover art being better than the actual book. I mean, look at this beauty. It's gorgeous. The content? Ehh.
The story centres around Joanne, a sixteen year old girl who's left alone while her parents go on holiday. When her friend talks her into throwing a party, they unwittingly invite in a guest who doesn't want to leave...
It is a YA novel, so the horror elements are pretty light but the story has an enjoyable nostalgic charm to it. On the flip side, the characters are pretty bad. Joanne is *the* most boring teenager and she makes some absolutely nonsensical decisions. And the villain? Somewhat interesting, but pretty damn useless.
Overall, it's a fun enough read but the story is entirely overshadowed by that awesome cover art.
