From the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the House of Night and Towerfall series comes a cozy, high-heat holiday paranormal romcom full of snowstorms, forced proximity, fated mates, and a grumpy wolf who can’t get enough of the fox who drives him wild.
Emme Lark has sworn off the Festival of Lights and all the fated mate nonsense that comes with it. After one humiliating Solstice shattered her trust, she’d rather spend the season with cocoa, sweets, and her best defense sarcasm. But when a favor for her grandmother ends with a snowmobile wreck and a surprise blizzard, Emme stumbles straight into the path of something far more irresistible than fate.
West Mercer walked away from his wolf pack, his past, and his destiny years ago. Solitude suits him just fine, and the last thing he wants is a sarcastic fox shifter in a sparkly pink parka turning his quiet cabin into a holiday movie. Emme talks too much. Her cocoa is too sweet. She leaves glitter on his floor. And her scent? Impossible to ignore.
With only one bed, a snowy winter storm, and enough sugary sweet Solstice magick in the air to melt even the frostiest hearts, Emme and West can’t keep their hands—or their hearts—to themselves. When it comes to love at the Solstice, fate always finds a way.
Kristin is a #1 NYT and #1 USA Today bestselling author with over 30 million books in print.
She is proudly neurodivergent (ASD + OCD) and deeply consumed by character-driven chaos, emotionally vulnerable heroes, and smart, sexy heroines who always get the last word and the hot guy. When she’s not writing, you’ll find her devouring thriller, horror, and romance novels, practicing witchcraft, and being the exact kind of unhinged that makes group chats worth opening.
This was so cute!!! ❄️🍬 A paranormal shifter age gap romance full of sugar and spice, and for a quick holiday novella it packed way more emotion than I expected 🥹❤️ It had the cozy feels, the swoon, and those little heartfelt moments that hit right in the chest.
I would love to see this world expanded because I was instantly invested in these characters and this snowy supernatural town 🐺✨ A perfect cozy, spicy lil holiday treat to throw into your Christmas novella rotation 🎄🔥
I had an absolute blast writing about West and Emme in this spicy, sweet holiday novella. This is my first time writing shifters or an age gap romance, and it definitely will not be my last. I hope it’s as much fun for you to read as it was for me to write. Happy reading!
"Solstice magic burns bright and wild under my skin, rising in a rush that feels like both surrender and a promise. I know what I want. I want this. I want him. I want to be bound to West in every way the solstice will allow — heart, soul, forever."
this was such a cute read! it was unexpected how much i ended up enjoying this novella. i really enjoyed the dynamic between emme and west! this was the perfect balance between sugar and spice (pun intended).
Sweet, spicy, and endlessly charming. A total winter comfort read. ❄️✨ .......
Sugar and Snowflakes was such a cute, fun read that I devoured in a matter of hours. I’m usually a sucker for wolf shifters, but this year I’ve had the absolute pleasure of falling headfirst into a variety of paranormal romances and loving every second of it.
This story was a heart-tugging, deliciously spicy treat wrapped in wintery sweetness. Emme completely stole my heart with her feisty spirit and her determination to soldier through life after devastating heartbreak. Her love for pink felt instantly relatable, just like her sunshine personality and her love for all things sweet.
Then there’s West ~ broody, guarded, and every bit the perfect lone wolf. His grumpy energy paired with Emme’s brightness made this grumpy/sunshine romance pure gold. The chemistry simmered, the emotions hit just right, and the happily-ever-after was tied up in the cutest bow... so good it had my cheeks hurting from smiling.
Sweet, spicy, and endlessly charming. A total winter comfort read. ❄️✨
Shifter romance between a Wolf and a Fox, with a sprinkle of age gap ✨️Packed with a lot of emotions between Emme and West, both have had a hard time finding that one person for them and just so happens that they are what they both needed 🥹💓
The way West took care of Emme, just doing everything for her and making sure she wasn't sick, while Emme brought back the life and noise he missed in his life 🖤
SUGAR & SNOWFLAKES was a really cute novella featuring a wolf shifter and a fox shifter who are both reluctant to find a mate but end up trapped together during a snow storm. The writing was really engaging and the characters likable. It was a quick read with insta-love and some spicy moments and it really hit the steamy hallmark vibes just right.
This was the perfect sweet and spicy winter novella. You had a fox and wolf shifter with the forced proximity, fated mates, and age gap tropes. It felt super cozy and makes for the perfect holiday read.
Thank you to the publisher for the gifted copy of the book.
This Novella was perfect. If you love, shifters, snowed in/only one bed, events, and fated mates! I absolutely devoured this, and I loved everything to do with the grumpy sunshine aspect.
This was my first experience with this author, and I really enjoyed her writing style. A lot was packed into 71 pages, and West and Emme were instalove goodness coated in pink sugar. Too much sugar, maybe, with how much it’s used throughout everyyy scene and the incredible UTI risk that was taken, but here we are. I loved the chemistry and teasing between these two, and the heat and magic incorporation was perfect. The ending was a bit abrupt, I would have liked a little more from them in their human forms. It also would have been nice to have a glimpse of the ex regretting how he treated her at the Winter Soltice mating festival - but I’m petty like that and at the same time, also appreciated the full focus on the couple.

The cold is a knife in my lungs. Pines lean toward me, their branches heavy with snow. I pull my scarf up to my nose and push forward, sequined boots punching little holes into the white. Minutes blur into a rhythm—breath and crunch, breath and crunch—until my brain starts narrating my own documentary, Sequined and Afraid. p. 12
Her round eyes are wide, ocean blue, lashes tipped in frost. Her cheeks are cherry red from the wind. Her pink puffball coat looks drenched, and she’s dusted in glitter and ice like a nearly frozen Christmas ornament. The wolf inside me stirs. p. 15
Memories fall into place like snow sliding off a roof. The storm. The crash. The axe. The screaming. The punching. The undressing. p. 23
Her lips are soft, but her mouth is all teeth and tongue and need. She moans against my tongue, hips grinding against mine, and I feel that sound like a goddamn command. p. 43
It happens before I can stop it. Something opens in me, soft and wild, blooming through the cracks I’ve spent the past year sealing shut. It roots itself deep into the quiet part of me that no longer trusts anyone to stay. And I know, with a sudden, breathless certainty, that this is how it starts. This is how I find my mate. p. 51

Kristen Cast just does not miss. Ever. Her books raised me, shaped my love for books, and somehow, years later, she’s still delivering stories that hit me right in the heart when I need them most.
Sugar & Snowflakes was short, sweet, and dangerously addictive. I didn’t think I had room in my heart to love another fox (because let’s be real, Onyx from Quicksilver/Brimstone owns a permanent residence there), but here we are. This story was literal pink sugar icing, cozy and indulgent in the best way.
Emme Lark wants absolutely nothing to do with mating bonds, the Festival of Lights, or the heartbreak they bring. Fate, however, had other plans. One snowmobile mishap plus an unexpected blizzard lands her directly in the path of West Mercer who is a broody wolf shifter running from his past just as hard as Emme is running from destiny. Being snowed in together? Yeah… that doesn’t help at all.
The chemistry between Emme and West was instant and delicious. Their banter was sharp, their emotional connection hit deep, and the heat? Enough to melt the snow clean off that cabin roof. Grumpy meets sunshine, resistance meets fate, and suddenly the HEA my heart needed is right there waiting.
This book was a perfect blend of cozy winter vibes, paranormal magic, forced proximity, and spicy tension, all wrapped up in a bite-sized romance that left me smiling long after the last page.

I needed some very brief fluff because my google docs on my iPad was glitching out and clearly needed to go rest in the corner for a bit. And fun fluff this is. I loved that it’s shifter romance, it’s a quick like hour and a half read… I enjoy this author on the reg, but I will say that the use of sugar and frosting in this manner is a hard pass, and I just couldn’t get past that and the fact that she is in a cabin for two days and not once does it mention a bathroom break or shower etc but there is clearly running hot water in the cabin. Guy or gal, I do not care, microtearing, PH balance thrown, sticky does not stay slick, if you get my drift, and cleaning up after all that just isn’t the same as a shower prob needed to help counter the sugar. Sometimes, it’s in the details. That said, if you can fairy dust I believe your way past those mundane details of do as I say not as I do, it is a cozy winter insta love read, if you are in for one! I loved this pairing, it was cozy, adoring, giving fate another chance because it was right… there was SO much right about this story it kills me to take a star for the one wrong I couldn’t get past. I still highly recommend Kristin’s work because it is always so much fun and her banter is on point.

Emme and West are two people who were previously burned with the whole fated mates process, and have since turned their back on love. And I think what I love the most about their story is that, yes, what they are now experiencing is a surprise, but it’s a surprise of their own making. Sure, some divine intervention is happening, but it’s not rooted in being paired together at a ceremony. It’s their own choice to listen to how they’re feeling and not let anyone else define it for them, and I love that that’s how they get their respective second chances.
Like Emme says, she feels a bit young to be so jaded, but I can’t imagine how she felt thinking she had found her person, only for the ceremony to deem otherwise. It’s a lot to put your faith in a process that could do that to you, and I like that she opens herself up to love again. With West, I think it’s unfortunate that he closed himself off, not just to love but to people, for so long because he felt less than, and I’m glad that, like Emme, he’s immediately open to the connection he feels.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - It seems the only snowed in romances I enjoy are the ones about shifters - because I’m 2/2 with those and 0/2 with regular old non-shifters when it comes to this trope 😂
This one is a quick (under 100 pages) cozy and spicy read that centres around two shifters who want nothing to do with the mate announcements that will be made during the Winter Solstice. The story was well-paced. Yes, it’s insta-lust/love, but I knew what I was getting into with the page count, and I feel like I can accept it when they’re fated shifter mates?
The ending was a bit rushed for me, and overall, I wished this one was a little bit longer - not a full length novel, but at least a little more to enjoy!
Something I could not move past was the fact that when Emme first ends up at West’s cabin and asks where the bathroom is, he indicates it is outside. Yet he has running water for a sink and dishwasher… She never has to use the bathroom in the 48hrs or whatever it is she stays there? Just delete that piece of the interaction and call it a day, I beg!
So I went into this pretty blind with nothing but vibes & a short booksta review, and I LOVED IT. Saw the review online, bought the book, read it in one sitting same-day! This was a fast-paced, steamy Christmas shifter novella packed with sugar, spice & sass that had my heart pounding and kept me giggling! Compared to what I normally read, I'd give the spice rating a 🌶🌶🌶/5 as it felt a smidge underdeveloped and "fade to black-y" even though it was explicit.
Emme and West have both been burned and scorned by the 'fated mates' process which makes their surprise encounter and chemistry with one another all the spicier 🔥 Their grumpy/sunshine personalities were a winner for me, though I personally hate the 'insta-love' trope and felt like the story could have done without their "I love you's" in the first 24 hours of meeting. Overall this was a fun, sugar & spice-filled read considering it was only 85 pages, and I'll absolutely be checking out this author's other romances ASAP!
Sugar & Snowflakes is a short paranormal romance novella filled with sugar and spicy (pun fully intended). I thought the society of different shifters living together, having traditions and ceremonies, really fun! I almost wish we would have gotten a tad bit more of the world building.
West and Emme were great characters respectively! They were charming, sweet, cunning, and really made the best of being snowed in.
The only reason why this wasn’t a 5 star read was because it was an insta-love (I’m talking about saying ‘I love you’ within a day of knowing each other) and there being a third act breakup. I actually felt like this novella would have been really strong without it, so it felt unnecessary.
Thank you so much Kristin Cast and Storygram Tours for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This was the perfect shifters/paranormal romance, it had everything I was looking for especially in a novella. The age gap, fated mates and snowed in scenario was perfectly done. Such a fun and spicy short story! It definitely made me crave sugar cookies and all the pretty christmas decor and festivities!
You'll love this if you like... 🎀Fated Mates 🐺Shifters 👔Age Gap ❄️Snowed In 🛏One Bed
Thank you @kcastauthor for my ARC copy!! I can't wait to read more from this new collection and get my hands on the special edition of this one!!
Sugar & Snowflakes was such a cute/fun holiday paranormal romance! Full of sugar, spice, and everything nice.. ok, so maybe not everythinggg nice, there was some playful banter thrown in. I enjoyed the cozy, snowed in, wintery vibes. The novella contains chapters from both main characters points of view. I loved Emme, our fox shifter fmc who loves sparkles, the color pink, and sugar/baking. I also liked our protective wolf shifter mmc, West. In addition to snowed in and shifters, the novella also contains the tropes: fated mates, forced proximity, age gap, and one bed. There's a bit of emotional vulnerability added into the story as well. If you're looking for a cute holiday shifter romance novella to binge this winter, consider adding Sugar & Snowflakes to your tbr!
Thank you @kcastauthor for the gifted copy in exchange for my honest review!
Spice: 🌶🌶🌶
🅃🅁🄾🄿🄴🅂 💋 forced proximity 💋 fated mates 💋 grumpy/sunshine 💋 age gap
🅃🄷🄾🅄🄶🄷🅃🅂 Two shifters who have lost faith in love cross paths while fate proves there was a plan all along. Emme, young and broken-hearted, finds herself in the presence of an older, sexy West. Her predicament forces her to rely on him, and in doing so, they connect in a way they both thought they never could.
I am extremely picky when it comes to an age gap trope, and even though Kristin is one of my favorite authors, I was still hesitant to read it. I’m so glad I took the plunge and gave this one a chance! This novella was tasteful, cute, and so spicy - even with all the sugar! I flew through this novella so quickly with no regrets.
This is a perfect read for somebody who wants a little bit of magic, a lot of heat, and sugar cravings!
I absolutely love that this was the first time we got a shifter romance from Kristin Cast, and I hope she writes many, many, many more!
Emme & West's banter was playful and hot. This was really my first age-gap romance, and it did not disappoint. Both Emme & West have been burned by love and lost something. Their raw, instant connection is wonderful.
This is a great short read. I can't wait to read the rest of the Cozy Christmas Collection after devouring Sugar & Snowflakes.
Sugar and Snowflakes is a sweet, cozy holiday romance that feels like curling up with a warm drink on a snowy night. The story leans into winter charm, small-town vibes, and gentle emotional moments rather than heavy drama. It’s comforting, romantic, and easy to read—perfect if you want something soft, festive, and heartwarming. While it’s not meant to be intense or complex, it delivers exactly what it promises: warmth, sweetness, and a little holiday magic that leaves you smiling when it ends. ❄️💙
This was a sweet and spicy little read! I loved how feisty the FMC was despite what happened to her in her last relationship. The MMC is a tall drink of silver wolf ( you see what I did there lol) with his own baggage. These two not only have this undeniable chemistry… but they also help heal each other. It’s got lots of sweetness and a nice dose of spice! One snowstorm and one undeniable fated bond. She loves to bake and she's his favorite sweet treat. I cannot wait to read the rest of this little series!
For my first shifter romance in a while, this hit every note perfectly! The story itself is just under 75pgs and feels like a full length novel! Emme the winter fox stumbles upon West the lone wolf in the middle of a snowstorm. A protector at heart, this older and jaded wolf can't help but try to take care of the young and playful fox. Super sweet and deliciously spicy!
Sweet and spicy, I need more fox shifter books. This story was cute and short but I’m seriously craving more because it’s totally adorable. It might not be most people’s cup of tea but it had some spicy scenes and fun banter with the characters. Also the age gap, it could have been neat to see if he went back to his pack or if they started their own little pack.
This is super quick and cute. Cast has really grown up in her writing, and these two characters are easy to understand quickly. Some of the dialogue is cringe and the sugar in intimate places makes me wince, but it’s fantasy and complete fluff. No harm, no foul.
A cute read! My first time reading this author, though she's been writing forever in the paranormal space. This was a winter-themed romance between shifters (she's a fox and he's a wolf). It's definitely more on the cozy side if that is what you're seeking. I liked the snowed-in trope and small-town setting. I'd be interested to catch up on the author's extensive backlist.
What a Fun Read Short Sweet and Spicy Love A great shifter romance when fate brings a happy ever after on a Magical Solstice night with honey cake and pink sugar cookies what more could you ask for in a Cozy snowed-in one-night romance that turns into forever its a must Read!!
