Love on the Horizon

Rate this book
It's countdown time! Only two weeks until the release of Love on the Horizon!

A fresh start. An unexpected chance at love.

Magnolia “Mags” Davenport has not had an easy life. Determined to leave behind painful memories, she decides, on a whim, to move halfway across the country to Horizon, Idaho, a town she's never before heard of. What should be a simple escape to a new life turns into an adventure she never imagined. From dangerous train rides to a stagecoach robbery, Mags wonders if she'll ever reach her destination. When she finally sets foot in the small town filled with friendly people and a slightly aggravating, but kind and handsome man who needs spectacles, will she find the new beginning her heart craves?

Four things matter most in Timothy Shepherdson's life—faith, family, farming, and food. Content as a farmer and uncle to his passel of nieces and nephews, Timothy isn't interested in courtship or romance, especially since none of the women with their caps set for him can cook. What should be a simple trip into town changes everything after a case of mistaken identity. Timothy finds himself not only under the ire of newcomer Magnolia Davenport, but immensely intrigued when he learns she's opening a bakery. Can he convince the wary baker to both forgive and give him a second chance?

Take a trip to Horizon, Idaho, in this tender romance that reminds us that God is the author of new beginnings.

In what may be the final book in The Horizon Series, Zeller delivers a powerful and touching tale of new beginnings, salvation, and family.

Magnolia "Mags" Davenport is seeking to leave behind the painful memories of her childhood and start anew. Mags isn't the only one taken on a journey, however. The reader travels along beside her in this emotional story, beginning in Chicago, destination: Horizon. Even after Mags arrives in Horizon, there is still a journey to travel, because although she has found a place to reside, her heart is still lost and yearning for the love only the Heavenly Father can provide.

Where Mags' tale leaves the reader with tears in their eyes, Timothy's will draw more than one smile. Faith, family, and food...in that order. And his dog, Goose, who gets into some shenanigans of her own. Timothy's bevy of nieces and nephews also provide comedic relief at times, as does Timothy's imperfect vision and his stubbornness surrounding the necessity of spectacles. As someone who wears glasses, I can empathize with Timothy's struggles when he's yet to acquire his "second set of eyes".

Sensitive readers should note that child abuse and neglect are hinted at, and the assault of a minor character is briefly alluded to. Zeller does this tastefully.

The romance is clean and sweet, as are all of the romances penned by Zeller. And, unsurprisingly, Love on the Horizon packs quite a punch in the faith department. Readers will be reminded of the faithfulness of God, how much we need Him, and how fearfully and wonderfully we are made in His image.

The entire Horizon series is wonderful, and those who enjoy Christian historical romance with actual threads of faith will find Love on the Horizon a lovely read.

“The best dreams were the ones that came true.”

A breath of fresh air. Penny Zeller’s historical romances set in the West are always a joy to read. A gentle romance, soaked in faith, coated with humor, and easy to read, Love on the Horizon is the fourth novel in the Horizon series. This is Mags’ and Timothy’s story. And what a story it is! With a vibe akin to the Little House series on TV, we see hurting hearts longing for belonging.

Mags is the most prominent hurting heart. Little by little, her childhood trauma is laid bare. We see her desperation to be on her own, so much that she would attempt to ride the rails (without paying) all the way from Chicago to Idaho. Much humor results, and Mags is amazing in her quick-wittedness and her ability to con people. But her conscience is calling. Or is that the God Mags has decided isn’t listening to her prayers?

I loved the other main character, Timothy, and how his family is so warm and loving. And loud, and nosy, and concerned that Timothy needs a beau! And spectacles! Interesting view on spectacles back then. I’m glad times have changed, or I think there’d be a lot of near-sighted people stumbling around!
Timothy’s best quality may be that he cares for others in need. And he takes action.

Not only does Mags originally come to his attention this way, but so does my fave secondary character, Ozias. Part imp, part entrepreneur, part shyster, and part provider, it’s impossible not to love this boy as Zeller draws him. “If we see a way we can make a difference, then the Lord expects us to step up and do so.” I am amazed at the results a caring man, family, and town can make.

Will Mags be able to accept that God has not answered all of her prayers as she wanted, but He still loves her and is giving her a second chance? Will Timothy overcome his pride to accept his limitations and the help available?

I definitely hope that there will be one more book. Ozias deserves his own story!
I received a copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. I also bought my own ebook. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.

Notable Quotables:

“Honesty is always best.”

“When we surrender our lives to Him, it doesn’t mean our lives will be easy. Or that we won’t struggle. Or that we don’t grieve.”- Mrs. Shepherdson

“Isn't it true that our God is a God of second chances and third chances and fourth chances? - Mags

“We never walk through those painful times alone. In His Word, God tells us He never leaves us. He walks through those times with us, that He is close to the brokenhearted.” - Mrs. Shepherdson

Loved this story! This is the 4th book in the series but it can be read as a standalone. This story is a little different with the two main characters not meeting until well into the story but I actually liked that because we got to know them individually before they got together. Magnolia, “Mags”, is a great character. She has had a rough past and doesn’t believe God cares about her. She is determined to start a new life. She doesn’t have any money so she stows away on a train and such to get to her destination. Timothy is part of a loving family and is set on just being an Uncle to his Nieces and Nephews and not getting married himself. He has been having trouble with his eyesight which forces him to get spectacles, which he is not happy about. When Mags and Timothy meet we have a few funny misunderstandings. But as they get cleared up and they get to know one another love blossoms. I loved watching them together. I also loved watching Mags start her bakery and Timothy with his glasses haha. There were so many cute moments. And also some sad moments especially with the flashbacks. Great Christian content. I definitely recommend!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“The water in the river was already high. It could have easily flooded from the torrential rains. But God held those rains at bay. There were no floods. My roof could have leaked. It didn’t. So many times He takes care of us, and we don’t even realize it.”

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

I loved this book! This is the fourth book on the Horizon series. The story of Timothy Shepherdson.

The thing I like most of author Zeller’s stories is that they’re always happily ever afters and Faith filled stories. Her stories transport me to beautiful times in history where families were of most importance in our lives.
I always love the camaraderie she portrays in families and communities. A camaraderie that’s relatable, it reminds me so much of my own family’s gatherings. And even when Mags, the main character, went through rough times in her life specially not feeling loved by relatives, in some way that reminded me of our beloved Anne Shirley, in the end, just like Anne, she finds familial love and care, and a plethora of town friends.

I love that Mags always found a way within her circumstances, though many times I didn’t agree on how she did it, I admired her cleverness, and later on in the story we see her transformation. Also thinking of how much she accomplished, a bakery?! She was unstoppable, I loved it! And because of Mags’ wittiness there were never a dull moment throughout the story. You’ll love all the hilarious moments! Thinking peaches; Sir?; newspapers; skunk; stagecoach robbers…

Mags ❤️ Timothy

They were perfect for each other. I loved how his family embraced her as one of their own. Amazing portrayal of God’s love pouring out to others.

And on the topic of eyeglasses 👓
Mags: “I think it makes one appear intelligent.”
Timothy arched an eyebrow. “You do?”
Mags: “Yes, I do. As though one is book-learned.”
(So for one that had worn glasses most of her life I loved the idea of ‘making one appear intelligent and book-learned 😏😆)

If you like Faith filled stories with happily ever afters, humor and clean romance, this is the book for you.

And as always I’d like to share some quotes/excerpts I liked…

“If we see a way we can make a difference, then the Lord expects us to step up and do so.”

“…but I do know that nothing happens that is beyond His knowledge. That He can take something bad and turn it to good, should that be His will.”

“I know God does have a plan, and we don’t know what that plan means, but we have to trust He knows and that He loves us.”

“I surely don’t have the answers for why bad things happen. There is so much pain and so much anguish in this life. But I do know one thing. We never walk through those painful times alone. In His Word, God tells us He never leaves us. He walks through those times with us, that He is close to the brokenhearted.”

“There is so much richness in God’s Word. So many promises and not one of them will He fail to keep.”

Love on the Horizon is the fourth book in the wonderful Horizons series, which is one of the best historical romance series I have read! I was so glad to return to Horizon, Idaho, in the late 1800s, to reconnect with kind-hearted farmer Timothy Shepherdson and engage with newcomer Magnolia "Mags" Davenport. As the story begins, we meet Mags as she heads to Horizon, a randomly chosen destination, seeking a new beginning far from her painful Chicago past. Her first encounter with Timothy when she finally reaches Horizon, after a harrowing trip, is rather rocky. However, their love story that gently unfolds is heartwarming with a perfect mixture of humor, heart-tugging emotion, and spiritual depth. I admire Mags' determination and courage as she finds acceptance and connection in Horizon that transforms her life. I have loved Timothy since he was first introduced in the series. His kindness toward and patience with Mags is inspiring. I so enjoyed Mags' faith journey and the reminder that new beginnings are possible with God as He redeems the past and makes all things new. I totally enjoyed this captivating, hard-to-put-down story that I read in one day! I highly recommend it and the series! Note: Even though this book is part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone.

Such a beautiful, moving story filled with God’s love, mercy, and provision along with forgiveness. This is a tender story of a young girl that has a heartbreaking early life yet still is determined to make her life better. Her journey is filled with moments that had me laughing out loud, worried that she was going to be seriously injured, and moments that brought tears to my eyes. It’s also the story of a man that is content with his life and thinks he has everything he needs. The main characters don’t meet until over half way through the book, but the journey is so worth the wait!! I love the way Penny showcases God’s love and guidance throughout the story, and showing how He is working all the negative into something good. I haven’t read the previous books in the series but I had no trouble following along with this book as it is a standalone. I am going to go back and read the previous ones now though! I received an advanced reader copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are honest and my own. I highly recommend this book!

This is the fourth book in the Horizon series but it could be read as a stand-alone. I’ve really enjoyed each book in this series and was so happy to read Timothy’s story and how the right someone can change your mind about confirmed bachelorhood. Magnolia is a wonderful character who has flaws due to mistreatment and loss of faith. After meeting the Shepherdson family and the patience and love they surround her with she learns to trust and finds herself on a faith journey. This story contains danger, family, faith, sweet romance, second chances, and new beginnings. I love young Ozias and how he tries to care for his family through the difficult situation his family is in. God has his path cross with Timothy and you can see how God orchestrated paths for several characters in this story. Great characters and a storyline that ebbs and flows consistently. A very enchanting story that makes you feel all the warm and fuzziness when you are finished.

I enjoyed getting to know Mags (Magnolia) as she struggled with her life and her faith. She’s pretty mad at God for taking her mom and dad. She leaves Chicago and her mean aunts hoping for a better life. Taking the train dishonestly begins her travel with lies and deception. She overhears passengers talking about Horizon, Idaho, so she decides she will go there. She shows amazing ingenuity, and strength along the way.
Timothy is a farmer in Horizon with strong faith, a wonderful family but poor eyesight. He gets new spectacles but seldom wears them because he is vain and thinks only old people wear them.
As their lives intersect they begin a friendship that also helps them see one another in a way they hadn’t before.
This story had action (robbers and such) hard times (hoping a boxcar) and a hero uncovered. A great way to spend the Thanksgiving holidays.

Yay! Another Horizon Series book by Penny Zeller! I love this series—with a memorable setting, welcoming townsfolk, great love, and fun and happy endings.

Love on the Horizon is an inspiring story of faith, family, and new beginnings. Even if you haven’t read the previous books in the series, you’re fine. This works great all on its own, with a sweet romance and transformation that will leave you satisfied.

Mags and Timothy are great characters and so easy to connect with. Mags is a blend of strong and tender, and Timothy is fun yet stubborn. I love that their story doesn’t drop you into an insta-love. The slow rise makes it extra rewarding.

I laughed and cried through this story and enjoyed every minute of it, and I’m a little sad this is the last of the series.

What a sweet conclusion to the Horizon series! It was entertaining to watch confirmed bachelor Timothy Shepherdson’s heart start to thaw at the arrival of newcomer Magnolia(Mags) Davenport to town. Her opening of a bakery combined with his insatiable appetite for sweet treats brought about many, often humorous interactions between the two. The story was not all laughs, however, as Mags went through some real struggles over questions of faith and how her life experiences had brought her low. I enjoyed getting reacquainted with several family members and characters from previous books and loved how they poured encouragement into Magnolia. Such a pleasant, entertaining and inspirational read!

I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher. A positive review was not required and these are my own and honest opinions.

This book… so beautiful. From page one my heart was invested with Mags, aka Magnolia ( love her name). Mags is a survivor, a fighter, but has a heart that is tender and beautiful. The plot of this story kept me engaged and I couldn't put it down. Penny Zellner has a way of inserting Bible verses and God's love into her stories that capture your emotions for our Lord and Savior as well as the character. I shed happy tears and had a heavy heart with this story. The love I felt for fictional characters, wow! Only a gifted writer can make a story come to life like that. If you don't pick up your Bible much this story will definitely leave you wanting to open your Bible and spend more time in His word. Beautifully written, engaging, and entertaining!

A special thank you to Penny Zeller for giving me the opportunity to read this Arc. While I haven't read the other books in this series this one was a delight and will encourage me to read the other ones. Penny always writes wonderful stories with strong family dynamics and chivalrous men so this story did not disappoint. If you haven't read Penny's books yet you need to because I think that you will enjoy them.

We are introduced to Magnolia who is trying to create a fresh start by going somewhere where nobody knows her. However, on this journey there is one issue after another but instead of turning back she moves forward and reaches her destination in Horizon Idaho. Will she get the fresh chance that she needs and will there be an opportunity to find romance? Read this story and you will not be disappointed!

Horizon is such an idyllic town. The Stephenson family made it all the more special. I loved how they came alongside their community with support that was tailored to their needs. Shout-out to Ozias who did whatever he could to support his family!

Mags and Timothy are such great characters. I would love to give both of them a hug as they deal with the pressures of life. I would also love to try all of Mags' sweet treats. Her resilience and determination throughout the book was remarkable.

This author weaves Scripture and Christian values throughout the story, which I love to read about.

I was given a complimentary arc of the book. The opinions are my own.

5 stars all the way! I really enjoyed reading this book! The main theme is forgiveness. There are a lot of sad times but there are also a lot of happy times.

The cast of characters is relatable and easy to like! Mags is AMAZING! Her past contains a lot of sad times. She perseveres despite not having any money. Through her ingenious quick thinking, she secures reward money and opens up a bakery. Timothy is a hunk! He's a hard worker and he loves his family. He is also a strong Christian.

Faith in God is prevalent throughout the book. I rejoiced when Mags made the most important decision of her life! "She was someone to God. Someone so very important."

I was provided a complimentary copy of the book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The story shows how God takes a person with a difficult childhood and turns their life upside down, but in exactly the way it is supposed to be. I loved the message of faith that was woven into the story. At times, I felt like crying, then rejoicing, as the book progressed.

The ending wrapped up everything nicely, but it was a surprise I hadn't thought of. It's a very well-written, faith-based novel that is uplifting and inspirational—another lovely visit to the town of Horizon. Some twists in the story I didn't see coming.

Love On The Horizon by Penny Zeller

I loved visiting Horizon again! These characters have just become more and more “real”’to me and I love seeing how their stories continue.

Seeing Timothy all grown up and finally finding a girl that made him change his mind about staying single was a treat.

Mags is really special, too. She could have turned out much different with the life she lived from age 12 until she got to Horizon. Mags struggles with believing that God hears her prayers or cares about her because of the things that happened. Yet, she is still such a sweet, caring person who treats others with kindness.

Mags doesn’t realize the blessings God has given her until someone points them out. It’s really neat to see how her faith blooms through the book, as well as the love between Mags and Timothy.

This book delt with some hard issues but it was also lighthearted in many ways. I absolutely love so many of the characters, and I mean “characters” in a totally different way, that are in this book and other Horizon books. They make me laugh and smile at the things they say and do. There were some new characters in the story and I enjoyed the additions.

With each Horizon book, this story contains adoption. It’s always close to my heart because I was adopted by my maternal grandparents as an infant. I love how Penny has addressed adoption from so many different angles. It’s done beautifully each time.

I hope there will be more books in the Horizon Series simply because it feels like there is more to this family’s story.

Highly recommend this series!

Magnolia Davenport’s life in Chicago was far from easy. After losing both her parents at a young age, she and her sister Phoebe were left to face the world on their own. Longing for a fresh start, Magnolia decides it’s time to leave the past behind. At the train station, she overhears talk of a wonderful place called Horizon, Idaho — and in that moment, she knows that’s where her new beginning awaits.

Timothy Shepardson was born and raised in Horizon, where he’s known as a devoted man of faith who cherishes both his family and the Lord. As the town’s most sought-after bachelor, Timothy seems to have it all — except someone to share his life with.

When Magnolia’s path crosses Timothy’s, could this unlikely meeting be the start of a love neither of them expected?

Love on the Horizon is the fourth and final book in the Horizon Series by Penny Zeller. This story does follow after the previous, so it is best to read them in order. This is a nicely written story that follow Mags as she travels from Chicago to Horizon and starts a business. The story also catches the reader up on the Shepherdson family, particularly Timothy.

This is such a good story. The characters are strong and caring people who help out others at their time of need. I especially enjoyed how imaginative Mags is during the stage holdup and how she helps protect those with her. I enjoyed seeing how she is rewarded for her actions and quick thinking. I enjoyed how Timothy responds with his eyesight. This is an enjoyable Christian historical romance story that is very inspirational.

Love on the Horizon by Penny Zeller is the fourth book in the Horizon series. I was so excited to go back to Hoizon, Idaho and catch up with the Shepherdson family. Boy has the family grown since the first book. The first book introduced us to Paisley and Tyler plus the three children who became their adopted children, Mae, Lucy, and Albert. They also went on to have Ruby and Timothy. Book two featured Mae, and book three featured Ruby. Though with each book we also got to see a glimpse of other family members and how they had grown.

Book four is Timothy's story, along with Mags, or Magnolia, Davenport. Timothy's plans for his life are to serve God, be an awesome uncle to all his nieces and nephews, and to take care of his farm. Even though he is quite the eligible bachelor, with several young ladies pining over him, he is content with his life and has no plans to marry.

Mags has had a hard life, a life where she has had so much taken from her and she feels that God doesn't care about her, so why should she bother with Him. She decides to leave Chicago and make her way west, choosing Horizon, Idaho as her destination. Though her mode of travel isn't quite ethical, she makes her way there and, on the spur of the moment, decides she is going to open a bakery to share delectable creations she learned to bake from her mother. But just how is she going to do that with no money?

I love how we see God providing and working in the lives of both Timothy and Mags. How for Mags, things that were "evil" in her past, ended up working for good. We get to know Mags more through her memories of her past, which occur quite a bit, especially when something triggers a memory. It was definitely very emotional, getting to see the good times and then the bad times she lived through after her parents passed away. There were life lessons and spiritual lessons, and oh how it moved me to see Mags grow closer to God again, and I loved how Timothy's mom Paisley played a part by sharing her faith with Mags and being there for her and encouraging her.

I loved how faith was such an important part in their lives. I loved the sense of community in the small town of Horizon. It was awesome to see so many rally around Mags and help her. At the same time, we got to see how caring Mags was, even though she had so much she was struggling with. And Timothy had his own things he had to deal with and work through. I also enjoyed the addition of Ozias and his family. And of course, I always love when a pet plays an important role in the story, so I loved Goose the dog.

Just so much to like about this book. I loved it and highly recommend it and the rest of the series. And, yes, I recommend reading them in order so you get to know the characters and their relationships without any spoilers.

I received an e-copy of this book as a member of the launch team and was not required to write a favorable review. These are my own honest thoughts.

Magnolia “Mags” Davenport’s journey mirrors the ache of anyone who has ever longed to belong. Her story isn’t only about starting over in a new place; it’s about letting go of the old wounds that followed her there. Through her eyes, readers glimpse what it means to be accepted, cherished, and fully known by God.

Through laughter, reflection, and gentle moments of faith, Penny Zeller reminds us that forgiveness isn’t a faraway gift; it’s a promise waiting at the feet of Jesus. Each page holds the quiet assurance that peace is found not in forgetting the past, but in surrendering it to the One who redeems every piece of it.

And then there is Timothy Shepherdson; patient, steadfast, and unexpectedly kind. His calm presence and humor add warmth and light to Mags’s world, reminding us that sometimes God places people in our lives not to fix us, but to show us His heart. Their story is sweet, tender, and perfectly suited for this season of grace.

This story moves with perfect pacing, like a prayer whispered through a shattered heart. It speaks to the places we hide, the corners still learning how to forgive what was done and to release to Jesus what cannot be undone. In that surrender, you can almost feel the Lord’s gentleness; the Savior who draws us close and says, “I love you, child. Let’s crawl through this together. Keep your hand in Mine, your eyes on Me.”

The new beginnings here bloom softly in laughter between friends, in the warmth of a kitchen, in the quiet faith of a farmer. Every ordinary moment becomes extraordinary when seen through grace-washed eyes.

A quiet truth rises from these pages; “If only good things happened in our lives, we wouldn’t need a Savior.” Those words rest like sunlight on the heart, revealing that grace often blooms in the soil of what once brought sorrow.

Zeller captures the way God is always there for us, ready to rebuild lives quietly and powerfully, one softened heart at a time; until Jesus’ love becomes the horizon itself.

In the stillness of Love on the Horizon, a soul finds what it was always searching for; forgiveness, acceptance, and the steady belonging of a Savior whose love becomes the horizon itself.

Perfect for readers who long for faith-filled fiction that blends gentle romance with eternal truth; stories that leave you smiling through tears and standing firmly in grace.

I received a digital ARC of this book from the author. Additionally, I preordered the Kindle version. I am not required to write a positive review nor paid to do so. This is my honest and unbiased review. My thoughts and opinions expressed in this book review are my own. My review focuses on the writing and story’s content, ensuring transparency and reliability.

Love on the Horizon by Penny Zeller is a Christian Historical Romance and the fourth book in the Horizon series. From the very first pages, this tender romance drew me in with its promise of adventure, healing, and God-ordained new beginnings. Centered on two endearing yet very different characters, the story blends danger, humor, and heartfelt faith into a satisfying small-town romance.

Magnolia “Mags” Davenport is a heroine easy to root for. Her life has been shaped by pain, and her impulsive decision to leave everything behind and head to Horizon, Idaho, feels both brave and desperate. Her journey was filled with dangerous train rides and even a stagecoach robbery. These early scenes add excitement and remind readers just how vulnerable a woman traveling alone could be. By the time Mags finally arrives in Horizon, you can’t help but hope this town will truly become the refuge she longs for.

Timothy Shepherdson is equally charming in his own quiet way. A man devoted to faith, family, farming, and food, Timothy is perfectly content with his simple life and has no intention of courting anyone. His love for his nieces and nephews, along with his practical, grounded nature, makes him instantly likable. A case of mistaken identity leads to a less-than-pleasant first meeting with Mags, setting the stage for a relationship that begins with irritation but slowly grows into something more profound and sweeter.

What I appreciated most about this story was its gentle thread of faith. The romance unfolds at a comfortable pace, allowing both characters to grow, forgive, and learn to trust—not just each other, but God’s plan for their lives. The small-town setting of Horizon, Idaho, adds warmth and charm, filled with friendly townsfolk and a sense of community that makes readers feel right at home.

This book is a lovely reminder that God can use even impulsive decisions and arduous journeys to lead us exactly where we need to be. With its endearing characters, cozy setting, and message of hope, this story is a strong choice for readers who enjoy faith-filled historical romance and second-chance stories.

So if you want a Christian Historical Romance, check out Love on the Horizon by Penny Zeller and the rest of the books in the series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

Love on the Horizon is a magnificent, superb read. It is flowing with happiness and sadness among the relatable characters, but faith and love of God is beautifully interwoven to inspire the characters and readers as I felt I was on the journey with Magnolia (Mags) despite all her hardships, sorrow and lack of funds as she traveled to Horizon from Chicago. The Shepherdson’s family has grown with Timothy only wanting to farm and spoil his many young nieces and nephews. Mags and Timothy meeting was not a typical way to meet but nevertheless others’ love and invitations might just be the answer. Horizon and the Shepherdson’s family care, faith, kindness and making her feel a part could change the hardest of hearts. The change in Mags when she finally realized God loved her, no matter all the losses and sadness she experienced in her earlier life, brought so much happiness to those in the story. It was nice to catch up with all the amazing characters in the Horizon Series and see the growth of the town, families, church and the area surrounding this charming town filled with love, compassion and gentleness to all that arrived.

Zeller never disappoints with her Christian Historical stories filled with true to life characters, faith, twists and turns and God’s amazing love, grace and mercy toward all.

I received an early copy of this book from the publisher for the book tour. I have shared my own thoughts.

The story is so realistic that I felt transported back in time. The author does a great job of developing her characters that allow readers to get to know them better. When I read about the price of a newspaper I chuckled. My how times have changed. For some, paying a nickel seemed expensive as they are barely able to afford food. Many face hard times as they try to keep their family fed and a roof over their head.

Mags is such a strong young woman who has not had a great childhood. After a loss she finds herself unwanted. I admired her for going out on her own to have a better life. I’m not sure her “white lies” were good but she is resourceful. I can just see this young woman with dirty clothes trying to blend into the crowd as they get ready to board the train. Her struggle with believing that God loves her is illustrated very well. How many times have you asked where God is when you are going through a trial?

Timothy is a hard worker with a soft heart for others. I really liked how he wanted to help a certain young boy and his family. Timothy illustrates how we should help others and share our faith as well. It was fun watching Mags and Timothy start a sweet relationship. With a few bumps in the road they will find that God is real, has a plan for them and gives them a new beginning.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

I loved this book. I am currently sick but I still read this book fast. I didn't want to stop reading and at times was laughing so much I was almost crying. Can't tell you what had me laughing but if you read it I think you will be laughing as well.

This book is the 4th book in the series but again if you haven't read the previous books you will still be able to follow along. This is Timothy Shepherdson's story. Timothy is living on his own farm now. He is happy being single and doting on his many nephews and nieces. He also need glasses as he has trouble seeing long distance.

Magnolia (Mags) Davenport is our heroine who hasn't had an easy life since her parents died when she was 12. She is leaving Chicago for somewhere new, moving halfway across the country deciding on Horizon Idaho. This journey isn't without challenges and trials. She leaves her sister Phoebe with the promise of sending for her and her husband and baby when she's settled. The journey has its own adventures which you will see when you read about them.

I will say her quick thinking does come in handy more than once on the trip ultimately helping others. Due to circumstances, she is asked what she will do in Horizons and she tells of her dream to open a bakery. Meanwhile Timothy is having his own issues with some young ladies setting their caps for him including one very bad cook. I do love the first interactions with the Timothy and Mags.

We also have another young boy Ozias, who Timothy wants to help who is a character. His whole family become a part of the story and I do like how the interactions happen. We see a lot of growth in Mags who's use to being a survivor but not having people kind to her. She meets Timothys family who love each other and are so comfortable to be with. She is not use to being included and we see her internal struggles.

The faith journey is done well. It's not an easy fix but what is needed. The book deals with abandonment issues, and insecurities issues. As I mentioned I loved the story, loved how the town supported Mags and accepted her. There are also the quirky characters that are in all the books that add to the humour. I am hoping down the track the young boy Ozias will get his own book. He is a fun character.

Another great book by Penny Zeller.

Love on the Horizon is book four in the Horizons series that is written by Penny Zeller. I have read some of the series, but not all - and you can read it as a stand alone. This author is one of my go to for Christian Historical Fiction. I love how she can transport readers back in time.

Magnolia “Mags” Davenport leaves behind a painful past in Chicago to move to Horizon, Idaho. She is in search of a fresh start. Her trip, however is anything but simple. I think the part that made me chuckle the most was the fact that Mags was so good at conning people and does not intend to pay her way to a new life.

Timothy Shepherdson is a man whose life revolves around four priorities—faith, family, farming, and food. He does not have an interest in love - just farming. I loved how their paths crossed. His family is so loving (I would love to be adopted by them...) but they want him to find his person.

I loved the faith elements that are woven into the story. Mags has had a rough life. She is not used to a family or people that are loving and kind. Timothy grew up with faith. IT was fun to see how God worked in both their lives.

The book is well written, the storyline is engaging - thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.

Magnolia “Mags” Davenport has had a difficult life filed with losses and rejection. She doubts God cares since He’s never answered her prayers. With no money and no home, she decides to strike out on her own to find a new beginning. Although she resorts to deception and dishonesty at the start of her journey, the story traces her redemptive arc as well as her spiritual growth. A chance meeting at the train depot leads her to go to Horizon, Idaho. Her bravery as they travel leads to her near death and later to her saving the lives of fellow stage passengers. That act opens the door to an opportunity she never truly dreamed possible. In the town of Horizon, readers reconnect with the Shepherdson family. (If you haven’t read the rest of this moving historical series, do so in order to learn each family member’s tale.) Timothy Shepherdson attracts the local single women, but he doesn’t wish to marry. However, his encounters with Mags may make him reconsider. The well-told story stands on its own but having read the previous books enriches the experience. I appreciate the way the plot with its twists and the engaging characters develop on the page, drawing readers into this engaging historical drama. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

This is the story of Magnolia, Mags Davenport of learning to love herself and to trust the one who created her. Mags is looking for a new life. After her parents died of cholera, she and her sister were separated due to family dynamics that Mags did not understand until she was an adult. Now, with no place and no one in Chicago to go to or rely upon, she picks the obscure town of Horizon, Idaho. The journey there and the journey of her heart teach her that she is loved and wanted.

Especially by one farmer by the name of Timothy Shepherdson. Timothy has a very good family and job; he is also smitten by the newcomer Mags. When due to his prideful issues with wearing glasses, Mags and Timothy do not have a good first meet. But Timothy is determined to make amends and get to know Mags even better. Their romance was one filled with hope, love, family, and new beginnings. This was a good story showing that no matter what, no one is a mistake, we all have a purpose.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review, and all views and opinions are my own.

Loved Magnolia and Timothy's story!! Magnolia decides she has to leave Chicago and make a new life for herself somewhere else. Some place where she can belong and no one will know her past. When sh hears about Horizon, she decides to head there. On the way, she saves one man's life, and helps some others keep their valuables. Once in Horizon, she's offered a building when she says she wants to open a bakery. Mags is sure there are no men worth having, so she's not looking to marry. Timothy isn't looking for a wife. He's decided he's just fine being a bachelor, and doesn't need children, since he has many nieces and nephews. However, their minds change as they get to know each other, though they didn't get off to a good start. I love how Mags comes to see that her idea of God is wrong, and that He does love her and has been with her every step of her journey. Love how everything comes together!!
