He’s acting royalty. She’s a nurse at The Royal hospital. What happens when their scripted romance starts to feel too real...?
When Ellie bluffs her way into a high-end party with her best friend, the last thing she expects is to end up going home with infamous actor Alex King, because he’s too drunk to remember what hotel he’s staying in. But when the paparazzi catch them together the morning after, their new friendship suddenly becomes the tabloids’ front page.
Alex needs a plus-one. Not only is his brother marrying his ex, but he’s become the villain in the eyes of the press. With a loved-up date by his side, the public might finally see him as moving on and his new play might finally get the ticket sales it needs to not close down.
But a wedding in the Bahamas, surrounded by gorgeous celebrities, with the paparazzi lurking everywhere, is plus-sized Ellie’s worst nightmare. Even as Alex’s displays of affectionate become more real and less fake, will she lose a part of herself during their pact?

When I see a fake dating premise, I click "Add to Cart" immediately. Throw in a massive Hollywood star (Alex King) paired with a grounded, 'normal' person (Ellie, a 24/7 nurse), and you've got my attention!
Overall, I really enjoyed "The Dating Pact" —it was a truly easy read with a pace that flew by. I loved the core concept: Hollywood chaos completely disrupting Ellie's structured life.
Their dynamic was solid, and I appreciated how they built a comfortable friendship amidst Alex's catastrophic, lavish lifestyle. They were good together, easily finding their place in the eye of the storm.
Okay, so here's where I need to be honest (and perhaps a little dramatic): I wanted more from these two, especially toward the end. Around the 85% mark, I was practically yelling at my e-reader for some deep, bone-level character development.
I was desperately hoping for Ellie to voice her issues and fully step into her power, and for Alex to finally try and be real with someone. The story felt easy and fun, but when it came time to hit those real emotional issues—the ones that separate a good book from an everything book—it just lacked that final, satisfying plunge into vulnerability. I mean I liked the plus-size rep, Ellie was too real with the way she felt and viewed herself, but I honestly think it centered around all the personal issues and somehow the relationship with Alex got mixed, maybe lost in a way.
This book needed more couple time, like when they got together it didn't feel like a happy ending, more like a story that needed a few chapters to get the overall feeling.
It's definitely a me-issue and not a dealbreaker, but I was craving that moment where they stripped away the pact and stood completely exposed.
Final Verdict:
Even with my need for deeper emotional turmoil, I still genuinely enjoyed watching Ellie and Alex navigate their fake relationship. If you love the Hollywood Star x Normal Person dynamic and a fun, plus-size character and a breezy fake dating trope, this is a great pick for your weekend list!
Huge thanks to NetGalley and Canelo for providing me with an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!
The Dating Pact took a tried and true fake dating trope and unfortunately did nothing new with it. Ellie is a plus size nurse who falls into a friendship with a movie star that eventually becomes a fake relationship. The story was predictable right down to who the villain was. The first half of the book struggled to hold my attention while it established the inner dialogue that was meant to be the backstory to their individual issues. The second half picked up considerably and was more interesting when other characters were introduced. Ellie herself wasn’t a bad character but it got repetitive hearing her declare her confidence and then disparage herself in the next breath. Which was tbh actually a realistic depiction of someone struggling to overcome self esteem issues. It was just rapid fire at times and repeated nonstop. Alex on the other hand was supposed to be American but was written as a British man???? Some of his phrases and speech were very British and obviously written by someone who is in fact British themselves. He also wasn’t a bad character but he was a little bit of a sad puppy dog through most of the book. The book stalled in places and the ending felt rushed but it was clearly a labor of love for the author. At the heart of this book was an important message about loving and trusting yourself. While it didn’t do anything new it did emphasize going after what’s important in life and getting out of your own way. I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The story follows Ellie, a plus-sized overworked nurse, who blags her self and best friend, Hannah’s, way into a private party where they happen to catch the eye of the host — none other than Alex King, the son of Hollywood royalty.
And thus begins their beautiful friendship. Alex is drawn to Ellie for not only her beauty but her ability to be open and truly herself, something he is not used to. Ellie is intrigued by how Alex is not what she expected from a legend amongst the stars, and how he truly seems to listen to her and understand her.
However, after facing a betrayal from his brother and ex-girlfriend, Alex is damaged and a little broken. But his family are determined to change the narrative and insist on him being there for said brother and ex’s wedding. Not wanting to face it alone and being advised by his agent to enter a relationship to help ward off the negative press, he asks Ellie to be his fake girlfriend and attend the wedding with him. But with the twosomes friendship growing deeper and their attraction to one another off the charts, how much of it is really fake?
Honestly, I enjoyed this story a lot, I’ve only marked it down due to not entirely loving the conclusion as I felt that was rushed and very cheesy … but lowkey loved the cheese at the same time. Very 90s romcom vibes!
The writing was sweet with enough detail to be fully immersive. Lulu Morris reminds me of Mhairi McFlarlane’s writing, which I truly enjoyed!
Ellie is a brilliant character. I loved seeing how she was healing from her self-confidence issues and even with all of the work she’s done, it was nice to see how her insecurities were still under the surface. It created a three dimensional character with a sense of realism in my opinion.
Alex was an absolute babe. Like Ellie I was intrigued by him and how he was so absolutely down to earth considering the world he grew up in. He was absolutely charming when recognising the differences in what he considers normal compared to the average Joe. But I truly appreciated how he and his family didn’t look down on anyone just because they are used to a different way of living. They were still relatable.
I do wish the ending hadn’t have been so entirely clichéd, but I do understand why it was somewhat needed considering what Ellie was dealing with. I did find it slightly rushed though.
Overall, this was a truly fantastic and easy read. Highly recommend!
This was just an easy and quick romance read! Nothing groundbreaking but still very enjoyable. It was definitely insta-love which isn’t my fave trope.
Loved the plus size body representation, however it felt a bit on the nose which then made it almost unrealistic. I have no doubt people are treated differently due to their body size, especially in Hollywood, but the way it was portrayed in the book felt forced and could have been done in a more subtle way and would have felt more realistic.
Overall, if you are looking for a quick romance read and want a bit of plus size positivity and humour, definitely read this!
Oh wow, The Dating Pact completely pulled me in! I was pleasantly surprised, especially since this is my first Lulu Morris book—I didn’t know what to expect, but I’m officially a fan. Ellie is hilarious, relatable, and honestly such a mood, trying to navigate a high-end party one minute and a paparazzi scandal the next. And Alex… chef’s kiss—he’s charming, swoony, and that “too real to be scripted” vibe had me smiling like a fool.
The Bahamas wedding setting was perfection; the stakes felt high without being over-the-top, and I loved the mix of romance and suspense, with the mystery woven in. It’s funny, flirty, and has those quiet moments that made me really root for these two. I devoured it in one sitting and couldn’t put it down. If you love romance that’s playful, a little steamy, and utterly binge-worthy, this one’s a must-read.
My very first book written by Lulu Morris, and definitely not the last. Fake dating is one of my favorite tropes, and this book nails it. It's a fast read, perfect for a beach vacation. I really liked the story, it's charming, light and fun, but it also includes tougher issues, like body shaming and adultery. Ellie is good-hearted, hard-working and feels comfortable with herself, but has a tough time finding real love. Alex is always in the spotlight, and his work life is overshadowed by a scandal in his personal life. They make a dating pact, trying to overcome the hardships they're facing, ang helping each other in the process. But not everyone is ready to forgive a plus size woman who tries to steal a celebrity. And having every move on display for the entire world to see doesn't help either. Thanks NetGalley for the epub version.
ARC Review- ⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 0.5-1🌶️ Fake dating and plus size trope. Cute storyline and the characters have great chemistry. Good plot twists, that I wouldn’t have expected. Good pallet cleanser book for me!
Thank you to Canelo and NetGalley for providing me with this ARC!
When emergency room nurse Ellie gate crashes a play’s opening night after party, she only ever expected to share one last celebratory drink with her best friend Hannah. Hollywood royalty Alex King is holed up in London to avoid a scandal plaguing his personal life. When their first encounter ignites a deep and understanding friendship, the develop a fake dating pact to save face and save Ellie’s wallet. What they didn’t factor was the feelings simmering just beneath the surface …
I really wanted to love this one. Fake dating is my bread and butter. It’s the one trope I seek out more than the rest. Two idiots in love pretending their relationships are just fantasies until they’re not—perfection. But I never found myself overly enjoying “The Dating Pact.” Don’t me wrong, Alex and Ellie are adorable. She’s an overworked and underpaid nurse from the East End and he’s a Hollywood nepobaby worthy of his inherited talent embroiled in scandal (of the press’s own making). He’s absolutely besotted, and I do love when the man falls first and hard.
Something I loved was how comfortable Ellie was with herself and her body. No one, save for Alex and her family, ever actually reserves their judgment for her being bigger. But consistent reminders throughout the text weren’t my favorite. Many references felt unnecessary, as though they were only there for the sake of reminding the audience that Ellie happens to be curvier than the typical romantic lead.
Something else about the story does feel extremely Hollywood-esque. It’s a bit more on the superficial side with a lot of missed potential We never get to fully appreciate the characters’s feelings and motivations. Things happen in quick succession so we’re not left with much breathing room to develop a better understanding of who Alex and Ellie are as a couple—fake or otherwise. We see their relationship happen, but there’s not much emphasis on how they relate to each other. I would’ve loved to have spent more time watching the emotional connection play out as deeply as the physical interactions.
This is a quick and fun read, but it just wasn’t the one for me. I do recommend checking out if fake dating, body positivity, and a touch of Hollywood magic is up your alley.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Dating Pact by Lulu Morris 💖🎬✨ Fake dating? Immediate yes. Fake dating with a Hollywood celebrity x normal, grounded FMC? Add to cart. No hesitation. 😌📚 It’s basically a personality trait at this point. And while The Dating Pact didn’t emotionally obliterate me the way I sometimes crave, it was still a genuinely fun, light, rom-com-style read that I flew through. Ellie is a plus-size, overworked nurse just trying to keep her very real life afloat (relatable queen behavior 🫶), while Alex King is drowning in fame, scandal, family pressure, and full-blown celebrity chaos ✨🎭. Watching his glossy, over-the-top world collide with Ellie’s structured, no-nonsense reality was easily one of my favorite parts of the book. The contrast worked so well. Their connection developed naturally, which made the fake dating arrangement feel believable from the start. I really loved that Alex was drawn to Ellie because she’s authentic and unfiltered in a world where almost nothing around him feels real. Their banter was easy, their friendship was comfortable, and together they were very easy to root for 🥰💫 That said… here comes my gentle heartbreak 🥺💔 As the story moved into the final stretch, I found myself craving more emotional depth. More vulnerability. More moments where they really laid everything bare. Ellie’s insecurities were handled with care, but at times it felt like they took center stage instead of deepening the romance. And once they officially got together? I wanted a little more time to sit in that happiness and let it fully sink in. Just a few extra chapters, please and thank you 😭💕 Still, this book delivers exactly what it promises: a cozy, charming fake dating romance with great plus-size representation, Hollywood drama, and feel-good rom-com vibes. The pacing is quick, the writing is super accessible, and the whole thing has that nostalgic, slightly cheesy (but in a fun way!) 90s rom-com energy that I can’t help but love 🍿💖 ✨ Final Thoughts: If you’re into celebrity romance, fake dating, and plus-size representation wrapped up in an easy, comforting read, The Dating Pact is a great choice—especially for a weekend binge. I really enjoyed Ellie and Alex’s journey, even if I wished it dug just a bit deeper emotionally. Huge thank you to NetGalley & Canelo for the ARC 💕📚 All opinions are my own—and yes, I’d still happily recommend it 😉✨
I ate this right up. I started it this morning and could not put it down. This book reads like a feel good romcom and that’s something I didn’t realize I desperately needed. I’m a long time fan of the fake dating trope especially when a celebrity is involved. Ellie is such a dynamic character whose personality leaps off the page and you fall in love with her immediately. She is so kind, funny, caring but beyond that, she feels so real to me. With Ellie, I felt so seen as a plus size woman because she echoed a lot of the same struggles I have dealt with when it comes to self image, dating, even dealing with family. One of the things I appreciate so much about Ellie is how honest she is about how easy it is to let other people make you see yourself as less and how you have to make a conscious effort to ignore that negativity. Alex was such a sweetheart though a little misguided at times. I was so angry for him with how his family handled the engagement and their expectation that he would just smile and pretend like his heart hadn’t been broken, along with his trust. From the get go, there was so much chemistry between him and Ellie. They compliment each other so well, bringing out the best in each other, supporting each other, and standing up for each other whether or not the other person was present. I fell in love with them as their story unfolded. Neither of them is perfect and that’s okay. The growth we got to witness in Alex made me tear up honestly. There wasn’t a ton of spice but when we did get it, it was so worth the wait. I wish Richie nothing but the worst things life has to offer and that’s all I’ll say on him. Overall, this was such an enjoyable read. I was so sucked in to the story that hours flew by without me even noticing.
*I received a copy of this book on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for this opportunity*
3.5/5
Ellie is used to making her own way in the world; after forgoing the family flower shop in favor of becoming a registered nurse, Ellie has been scrimping and savings and fighting for every chance to make her dream of owning a home come true. However, when her best friend and potential co-home-owner decides to abandon their dreams and find a new one in Australia, Ellie is left wondering where she went wrong. Alex King isn't quite used to making his own way in the world; his family, a powerhouse in Hollywood, has opened a lot of doors for him and smoothed the way into moderate success in the film industry. However, after the recent implosion of his family and romantic life, Alex decides to give theatre in London a shot.
When the two meet after Ellie crashes his party, an unlikely friendship begins between two painfully lonely people in need of someone they can trust. But when Alex proposes a fake-dating scheme to Ellie once he realizes he won't be able to get out of a family wedding-- suddenly, things start to get a whole lot more messy....
And super fun, delightfully spicy vacation romance-- perfect for the summer season! I loved Ellie's representation of a healthy plus-sized person; she had such a refreshingly normal view of her body and its abilities and, as a plus-sized person myself, it was such a delight to see my own views seen in a story I enjoyed.
I also loved the romance; Alex was such a sweetie, and his genuine love and affection of Ellie is something I can only dream of! Like a lot of my fellow readers, the last 85% of the book was hard for me-- but mostly because I'm not a huge fan of the miscommunication trope, but THE DATING PACT did, in fact, stick the landing for me!
I enjoyed reading this book it started with Ellie and Alex meeting by chance and becoming friends.
I loved that Ellie is kind, honest and funny she is so body positive and confident in herself despite others comments about her body. This felt real her confidence and reminding herself of her worth whilst also still having times of self doubt because insecurities don’t just disappear. Especially when you have close people that remind you likely daily in different ways or passing comments of the world’s historical standard and how you don’t fit them. That alone from people you love can chip away at your self worth and be exhausting to internally fight and protect yourself against. I loved how this did not make Ellie reduced to a fragile person and reliant on others. She knew she had to constantly work on herself and her goals.
There is the pact they make which is transactional but to me felt like Alex was also trying to help with Ellie’s dream goals that she continues to put on hold or give up. Not necessarily that he was trying to fix everything.
Alex the MMC was sweet, charming and down to earth but also sometime completely oblivious. I liked that Alex was more of a soft character. Not a typical male character who has no problems, strong and will fix the FMC problems. He has his own baggage, family problems and emotional struggles that are taking its tole leading to ongoing insecurities that are not easy to just get over.
I liked that his character showed despite still loving your family your experience growing up or more individual perception of events and interactions can shape a personality and life choices. If issues are not addressed they can build and get added to.
This was an easy read it does have a typical rom com non/miss communication, rash decision third act that makes you want to throw your kindle at them.
The Dating PactLulu MorrisI’ve always had a soft spot for fake dating tropes, and this story delivered in the best possible way.
It begins with two best friends—Ellie and Alex—who’ve spent nearly every moment together, slowly growing apart as they begin to discover themselves individually. Alex may have seemed like a random addition at first, but he quickly stole my heart. The comfort and ease between Ellie and Alex developed so naturally, and it’s one of the reasons I connected with this book so deeply.
The way the story addressed body shaming was especially impactful. It approached the topic with sensitivity and authenticity, weaving it into the narrative in multiple ways without ever feeling forced or overdone. I found myself constantly wondering when everything would come to a head—and when it did, it was worth the wait.
The conclusion was pitch-perfect. After the chaos caused by a truly awful agent, the way the family rallied to bring Ellie back and embrace her as one of their own was incredibly moving. It was the kind of ending that stays with you long after the final page.
If you love heartfelt romance, layered characters, and a story that balances humor with emotional depth—this one’s a must-read.
Thank you NetGalley and Lulu Morris/Canelo for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
I enjoyed this book up until the 85% mark, which unfortunately lowered my rating for it. Ellie is a plus-size nurse working in London when she meets Alex, a famous movie star and theater director. They hit it off, and Alex asks Ellie to be his fake date to his brother's wedding, where his brother is marrying Alex's ex-girlfriend.
I liked that Alex was so attracted to Ellie, and the Ellie was pretty confident in herself. Their friendship was so cute, and something they both needed. Both Alex and Ellie's families were troublesome though, and they were able to bond over that. I liked that by the end of the book their issues with their families had been talked about and resolved. Ellie's grandmother standing up to Ellie's mom was great, and something that needed to be done.
Where the book went downhill for me though was the third act. Alex repeatedly told Ellie he liked her and wanted their arrangement to be more, but Ellie wouldn't believe him, despite her having feelings for him as well. Then there was the cliche misunderstanding where Ellie assumed some things that weren't true. Rather than stay and talk about them, Ellie ran away and blocked Alex. I really wish books wouldn't do this and just have their characters communicate. It's so frustrating to read that scenario, and really detracts from the book for me. Without that third act conflict I would have really liked the book. I enjoyed it up until that point and thought it was well written. I want to thank Canelo and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.. I voluntarily chose to leave a review.
This was a cute and easy read. I absolutely loved the premise... fake dating, celebrity romance, and a plus-size FMC? AHH!! Sign me up!
The main characters quickly became friends after a night out when Ellie and her friend snuck into Alex’s VIP party. With Alex navigating a minor PR nightmare, fake dating Ellie seemed like the perfect solution. Add in a media storm, a wedding, family drama on both sides, and a villain, and it’s no surprise that Alex and Ellie eventually fell for each other.
I adored the body positivity from Ellie and how confidently she owned it (even when her mother tried to bring her down with her own insecurities). I also loved how Alex appreciated Ellie exactly as she was. You could tell the author wanted readers to see that this story wasn’t just a romance ... it also carried a message about loving yourself. Thank you, Lulu, for that.
However, the overall storyline felt a bit ... boring to me. The first half of the book didn’t hold my attention; there were a lot of details leading up to Alex’s brother’s big wedding fiasco in the Bahamas. I preferred the second half. It was more exciting and had a better pace (to me). The miscommunication at the end was also disappointing. Ellie had so much confidence, and then suddenly her mindset shifted, which made me sigh in frustration. Still, I’m glad Alex and Ellie got their HEA.
Thank you, Canelo and NetGalley, for the chance to read this book. All thoughts are my own.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A charming, heartfelt rom-com with humor, heart, and irresistible chemistry
The Dating Pact by Lulu Morris is an absolute delight—a fake-dating romance that’s equal parts swoony, funny, and full of emotional warmth. What starts as a chaotic celebrity party quickly turns into a story about self-confidence, second chances, and finding love when you least expect it.
Ellie is instantly lovable—down-to-earth, witty, and refreshingly real. Watching her navigate the glamorous (and often absurd) world of fame with grace and humor makes her an easy heroine to root for. Alex King, the movie star with a tarnished reputation, is charming in that messy, misunderstood way that makes you want to give him a hug and a reality check. Their chemistry is electric from the start, and the banter between them sparkles with genuine fun.
Lulu Morris balances the glitz of celebrity life with heartfelt moments of vulnerability and self-discovery. Ellie’s journey—learning to own her confidence and feel worthy of love—is handled with authenticity and care, giving the rom-com a layer of emotional depth beneath all the glimmer.
The tropical wedding setting adds a splash of escapism, and the supporting cast brings humor and warmth to every scene. While some of the fake-dating tropes are familiar, the charm of the writing and the sincerity of the romance make it feel fresh and modern.
Thank you to Canelo for allowing me to read a digital review copy of the book in exchange for an honest review! Normally l am not an avid romance reader, as I find it to be mostly juvenile and reduced to a checklist of tropes all tucked away amongst pages, but the premise of this book interested me, and l'm so glad I chose to read it. I loved having a plus size woman as the main character and I really appreciated that she was depicted as a confident woman, not in a girlboss' type of way but honestly and truly, and that her moments of insecurity didn't depict her as a fragile little thing who needed the help of a big strong man to ‘fix’ her, although I really enjoyed the characterization of Alex in the novel. The combination of the world of richness and glamour and fame of the mmc portrayed alongside the mundane and "normal" background of the fmc worked really well, as it allowed the story to feel relatable and dreamy in a balanced way. It was a gripping read that flowed at a good pace, without it being too long or dragging on too much. I think it would make a perfect rom com for the big screen and will attract the attention of many readers in the romantic book scene. As a teenager, I would have loved to encounter more books featuring a plus size woman such as Ellie, and reading this book felt very reminiscent of that time for me. I will cherish this experience.
I was so grateful to receive an ARC of this, and honestly I enjoyed it so much. It hit some of my absolute favourite tropes: fake dating, slow burn, and friends-to-lovers. The miscommunication almost had me throwing my Kindle (normally I can’t stand it), but it actually worked here because the MMC is a total yearner, and I lived for that energy.
The setting was stunning; an island off the Bahamas for a wedding that felt so vivid I could practically feel the sun and ocean breeze. The witty banter and comedic moments had pure 90s romcom vibes, and the ending was just perfection.
There are discussions around weight, diet culture, and body image, so if that’s triggering for you, this might be one to skip. But personally, I thought it was handled really well. Ellie felt incredibly relatable, especially in her internal and external battles with self-worth.
I also loved how accurately it captured what it feels like to live in 2025; the cost of living pressures, the social media expectations, and the way all of it can impact mental health. The pacing felt a little slow at times, but by the end I could see how every piece of the story mattered.
It also touched on family dynamics and how different they can look from the outside. Overall, it’s the perfect book to pack for a holiday, an ideal beach read with heart, humour, and depth.
I absolutely jumped at the chance to read this new release and just loved the bright and bold front cover image.
This is a new author for me, so not entirely sure what to expect - but the cover looked so much fun and I love a good romance read so couldn't wait to dive into this first book in the Behind The Scenes series.
This was the perfect fake dating, celebrity romance and I was drawn in right for the very start. When Alex and Ellie meet by accident - and of course, the press take it all the wrong way! - they are instantly pulled into a situation that has them spending much more time together and making a pact that will help Alex and his reputation.
I absolutely loved Ellie, who was just such a sweet person. She offered to help Alex, even knowing how I comfortable the tabloids make her feel. Everything about her felt real and relatable. I loved that she could be so strong and stay so positive in the face of all those derogatory comments all around her - and yes, she had some wobbles (who wouldn't!?) - but the real strength came bouncing back afterwards.
The romance storyline was pretty obvious - but this didn't spoil the read one bit! I was totally immersed and loving every second.
A great first read and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more from this author in the future.
Thank you to Lulu Morris and the Love Books Tour for a chance to take part in this book tour and for the early copy.
This book had me a bit emotional. I did not expect to connect with Ellie so much. Lulu did such an amazing job showing the thoughts and feelings that girls who struggle with weight have, at least I know I have. A mom commenting about my weight - check, crying when trying on clothes - check, constantly feeling like you're being judged simply by existing - check. There were moments were I literally cried, especially at the end of the book where everything came to a head, I could really picture myself in such situation having exactly the same thoughts as Ellie.
But moving on to the more positive side, I loved Alex. The way he was with Ellie was really sweet, he truly enjoyed everything about her, even though they had completely different backgrounds. He had his own struggles and insecurities that he was fighting through, and seeing him make peace with everything was truly sweet. I didn't agree with his family and their 'just get over it' approach so was really happy when Ellie had his back with them, even if they were these big stars she was intimidated by, she spoke up for him.
I devoured this book in two days and went through all the emotions. As far as debiut books go, Lulu - congratulations. This was a truly amazing story.
Perfect! I bloomin’ loved every single thing about The Dating Pact. It truly is *chefs kiss* 😘 From the moment we are introduced to Ellie I adored her. I want Ellie as my bestie. She’s hilarious, raw, real and beautiful. I would love to be able to adopt her positivity about her body and weight. And, even though she owns who she is, you still see her vulnerability and pain of being a plus size woman in a world that still equates skinny with being healthy.
Then we move on to Alex. Again, instant love for him. Green flag behaviour all round! I loved his growth, truly finding himself and following his passions.
And when their worlds collide…. perfection! Even though they are from very different backgrounds, they understand each other, come alive when they are in each other’s orbit, have a beautiful connection and the best banter ever. It had me rooting for them from the get go.
We even have a villain or 2 that you’ll love to hate. I’ll say no more! 😉
One of the stand outs in this was addressing how harmful and toxic people who are meant to love us unconditionally can be. Love Nanna! ♥️
Fabulously written, wonderful characters and real life pressures/issues in a gorgeous storybook setting. 🏖️
Thank you LBT for having me on this review tour and for My gifted copy of this epub. So happy got to read this book !!
This was a legit amazing read. I love this troupe of fake dating legit it’s so refreshing and fast read.
I love the main character Ellie she is a plus sized girl and I love this. I truly do !! I feel like it’s not written about nearly enough. Like even plus sized women are beautiful and need the attention and love !!! She was an overworked nurse enter Alex who is always in the spot light and well has a major scandal going on in his personal life so they decided to make a pact and in the process they help each other but some aren’t ready for Alex to be taken away.
I loved how sweet Alex was and how he just loved so hard and he definitely loved Ellie with everything. I am kinda annoyed though cause the miscommunication part just was annoying well more cause I wanted to scream at them be like what are you doing !!!! lol.
This was such an enjoyable read though o did I have fun reading this. I think fake dating is legit my favorite troupe. I just find it so good !!!
Overall this would be a great beach read. I am not on a beach right now but in the cold so it had to do but I may read it again over the summer on the beach with my friends!!
This was a wild ride, it has brilliant body positivity represented throughout, and there’s a gorgeous love story too.
There were elements I loved, the family flower shop, the location descriptions, the relationship resolution between the Alex’s family, I loved Ellie’s Nanna and her brother Mark too.
I wasn’t so keen on the constant reminder of Ellie’s body shape, especially from her mum, I was so relieved when Nanna finally stood up to her and told her to sort herself out and leave Ellie alone. I hate, hate, hate, loathe entirely Richie, what an absolute a-hole - he was the ideal “baddy” but my goodness it was uncomfortable to read. I also didn’t like the “date me and I’ll buy you a flat” agreement, I just felt like it set the tone for their relationship to be very transactional, and while it was lovely that they got the family home at the end, for Ellie’s mum to have profited of their agreement by moving into the flat Alex brought for Ellie didn’t sit right with me.
On the whole though, this is the perfect summer romance, you could eat this up poolside and enjoy the wild ride!
*A big thanks to Lulu Morris and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC of this book; this in no way affects my honest review*
I love a good fake dating trope. I was really looking forward to this one, but unfortunately, no matter how much I love fake dating, I hate the miscommunication trope more.
I don’t have the energy to write a full text review, so here are some of my notes. - I like that Alex was attracted to Ellie, and Ellie was confident in herself. - Why did the body positivity just go out the window towards the end? Why???? - Why do we have to be constantly reminded of Ellie’s size?? especially from her mum - shout out to Nanna for telling her to leave Ellie alone - I HATE Richie - I’ll buy you a flat if you date me - sets up a weird transactional relationship - Don’t like that Ellie’s mum moved into the flat Alex bought for Ellie after they got the family home. - miscommunication? Why? - Alex repeatedly told Ellie he liked her and wanted the arrangement to be more. - Ellie felt the same way, but just couldn't believe him - why do books have to do this? JUST HAVE THE CHARACTERS TALK - I would have rated it higher until this point.
This was such a cute thick babe romance. Alex and Ellie have been through the wringer personally and professionally and it’s surprising that the spark they have when they meet doesn’t catch the entire bar on fire. The fake dating trope is a fun one, and the setting and deepness of the characters make it that much more intriguing. I do love a good dual POV–matter of fact, they are my favorite type of romance.
I really loved both of the MMCs and how they presented themselves to the world and balanced one another. Alex and his struggles being seen by his family, and Ellie and her body issues, which I totally could commiserate with. They really became good friends even with all of the drama, and that made the chemistry so much better. I do wish we had more depth with the other characters, but the hateable ones were super hateable and the loveable characters made you want to squeeze them.
I highly recommend this to the thick babes romance readers who also love a good faux dating trope!
Thanks to NetGalley and Canelo for an advanced ebook copy in exchange for a fair and honest review!
Ellie and Alex...mannnnnnn I had so much fun reading this book. And as someone who has been plus sized before, the way her mother talked to her made me both angry and heartbroken. Alex, a popular actor and heartthrob from America ends up in London and meets nurse Ellie while at a bar. Ellie's best friend is leaving to travel abroad for a year and she and Alex meet once and it leads to more. Ellie is desperate to get away from her family while staying close enough to help them feel supported at their family flower shop. Alex is just in town for a film and after a crappy situation with an ex girlfriend who falls in love with his brother, he finds Ellie...a totally normal girl with a big, strongly bonded, loud family refreshing. They create a dating pact to help him get through a family wedding (the brother and ex-gf) and in exchange he will buy her a house so she gets some space from that close knit family. They fall in love and she has a hard time realizing that it's real...even though he tries desperately to make her realize it. I really loved how this one ended and she got to be really honest with her family AND be a safe space for Alex to grow.
What a fun, fake dating, forced proximity romcom with loveable nurse Ellie and famous for all the wrong reasons Alex. He needs a fake girlfriend for his brothers wedding, she wants independence from her family, together they have a host of personal issue they manage to work through with the support of their friendship, and when the kisses feel more real they have to decide whether they can fight for what they dare not dream of. I really liked Hannah and Ellie's friendship, they were so supportive of one another and there when it truly mattered. I really didn't like Ellie's mum and her attitude. I was glad when she was put in her place. I loved the setting of the Bahamas for the main part of the story, it was so beautifully described, the Bay of pigs sounds so special. I'm generally not a fan of romances that say they are featuring a plus-size FMC, as the description of the character never sounds plus sized like the cover art suggests. I did like however how positively Ellie spoke about her attitude to healthy over skinny. I haven't read anything by this author before but I would definitely read more in the future.
3.9 For first impressions, the opening hooked me in- we started with the FMC, and saw the meet-cute. The vibe of the book was also understandable from the beginning, I could always tell where we were going, which I personally like. The writing made it easy to picture the settings early on, it was playing in my head like a movie while I was reading, something that is rare for me. The MCs sometimes didn't feel like people, they came across as 'characters' rather than being fully fleshed out, which I didn't mind too much. I was unsure with the portrayal of the FMC's struggles with body image and surrounding fatphobia, as with a romcom vibe I would have expected that to have been worked through and resolved earlier than it was. I felt the same way about the MC's, I wanted more time with them being an official couple, even if it was made into an extended or second epilogue. The pacing felt good, all the subplots had time and attention to them, and I did feel the emotions intended by the author.
Favourite moments: the meet-cute, the turtle, and the ending Stand-out: side character Nanna
Thank you to the author, publisher, and Love Books Tours for my e-arc!
This book was overall very sweet! It’s nice to see a fmc that’s plus sized but confident. This book has heart, it has humor and it was entertaining! Our main character Eliza aka Ellie is a normal woman living in the East End of London. She’s a nurse and she’s also helping her family with their struggling flower shop. Her and her bff crash a party and that’s where she meets Alex King. They hit it off right away and become friends. And friends help friends out so Ellie agrees to be his fake girlfriend and attend his brother’s wedding. His brother is marrying his ex girlfriend. It’s awkward and there’s a lot of tension there. But as time goes on Alex and Ellie both realize maybe there’s more between them than friendship.
Ellie was a great character. I felt bad for her at times but she always held her head high and moved on. Even though there were some embarrassing moments. I got secondhand embarrassment reading some parts!
The message of the story was heartfelt. Don’t let other people’s opinions bring you down. People will always have something to say but stay true to yourself.
“Ten days in the Caribbean and an apartment for the price of one fake relationship? Sounds like the deal of the century to me.”
I was drawn to this book because I saw the plus size fmc on the cover. While the storyline is predictable and formulaic, I LOVED the inclusion of a plus size main character. I loved Ellie, her body positivity is everything I hope to have one day, but I also loved the vulnerability through the hardest parts. There are fatphobic characters and strong themes around weight and beauty but it was refreshing seeing myself in Ellie. I also really related to her aversion to meaningless intimacy and trust issues. A very cute romcom, with body positivity, fake dating, one bed, a little spice, rich families and a holiday to a tropical island, well worth the read!
I was kindly provided an early copy of this ebook from Canelo for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own!
