Well, I'm a huge Slayers fan, so of course I enjoyed this manga. It's weird, explosive, silly, and everything you can expect from Slayers. It doesn't have much plot depth, and it references both Prime and Next a lot, so it's helpful to have seen both series' before reading it. I love that Xellos was in it. The art is a little more "cutesy" than in some other Slayers mangas, but it works for the story they're trying to tell. The action frames aren't as well done as I'd like. Some of the movement is more implied than drawn, which is a bit confusing. Overall, it was a light, fun read.

Manga is not Slayers best format, however, this is one of the stronger manga volumes. It has some humorous moments, some nice fanservice, and is a quick, fun read. Some parts didn't make sense and you just had to go with it, but overall a nice little read.

Slayers: Premium By Hajime Kanzaka, Tommy Ohtsuka, & Rui Araizumi

Official Synopsis:
Terror, Treachery and Tentacles! All Lina Inverse wants is to dine on some of Akaschy Port's most renowned delicacy, the Akaschy Octopus. All Gourry Gabriev wants is to get in a few bites before Lina hogs it all. Zelgadis and Amelia only want to keep out of trouble, and nobody knows what the mysterious priest Xellos wants. As for Octopi, all they want is a hideous, violent, bloody revenge against humanity, or maybe they'll just turn the entire human race into rubber-limbed Octo-Men. Either one would be okay by them. Join us for another barn-storming, gut-busting, dragon-slaving comedy adventure!

Genres: Fantasy, Comedy, and Adventure
Book Style: Manga (Japanese Comics - Read Right to Left)

I decided to read Slayers: Premium By Hajime Kanzaka, Tommy Ohtsuka, & Rui Araizumi because I wanted to re-read one of my favorite books again also I've seen The Slayers anime series which is one of my all time favorite fantasy Anime series. Once I started reading I fell in love again and laugh so hard! This story follows Lina Inverse (a Sorceress) and Gourry Gabriev (a Master Swordsman) who are both hungry for Octopus dishes before they go onto more adventures but once they get there something is very wrong all Octopus food shops are closed due a sea monster making it hard for people to fish so Lina & Gourry fight off the monster so all of the restaurants are now open so they finally get to eat but it turns out now Octopi now want their revenge on the human race for eating their kind! Then finally Amelia Weir Tessla Seryuun (a White Witch) and Zelgadis Graywords (A Mage/Rock Monster/Human) show up to team up with Lina & Gourry to save the human race from becoming Octopi and fight the enemy! My favorite characters are Lina Inverse because she has a very charismatic personally, Gourry Gabriev because he's a loveable dork who's funny but knows his sword skills like an expert, Zelgadis because he isn't fully human, he's half rock monster/human with great powers and Amelia because she has passion for justice as a white witch magic to do the right thing. My favorite parts are when Lina and Gourry get to fight off the Sea Monster to finally eat Octopus because Gourry got to show off his sword skills with The Sword Of Light and Lina got to show off her Dragon Slave power to kill the monster but it ended up messing up the Amazing Fishing Brothers ship; they still got their food though. Another part I like is when Lina, Gourry, Amelia, and Zelgadis find out their are Octopi trying to take their revenge on the human race, they all team up to help fight them off. They meet a girl named Ruuma who wants to keep all the evil Octopi safe but it seems like she likes Octopi a "little too much" which freaks everyone out but she changes her mind to help out humanity we hope. Also like the parts where everybody in the town who eat Octopi starts turning squishy and speaking Octopan but poor Gourry he get turn into one but he looks so cute and it's just too funny! There are lots of funny and strange moments that happen in this volume but I don't want to spoil the story or ending. I was happy when Naga The White Serpent shows up as a cameo appearance near the end of the volume because she is one of another dork sidekick of Lina's! This book, Slayers: Premium takes place after Slayers: Special Manga Series with Lina and Naga's adventures. The art style is classic 90's manga art with it's own unique fantasy concept that you can tell each character apart very well, I really love it. I really enjoyed reading Slayers: Premium By Hajime Kanzaka, Tommy Ohtsuka, & Rui Araizumi because it's such a classic in my book and I would recommend this book to Slayers fans or people looking for a comical fantasy to read!

Back when the manga and anime craze started sweeping through the local teens, one teen girl kept telling me that I had to read and watch Slayers. For various reasons, I didn't get around to it at the time, but finally picked up this stand-alone volume. Now I get it.
The humor is bizarre and outrageous. Eldritch forces from beyond are conspiring to convert each man, woman and child on earth into octopuses, through a contagious curse. Well, sort of, at least as far as I can tell.
The craziness is both a strength and a weakness, as things just sort of happen with logic that only a Monty Python routine could match.
There's a little bit of clumsy fan service, and parts of the story make no sense, but it's worth reading if you like goofy fantasy.
