Is it possible to find your soul mate on the other side of the world?
Beth Johnson is an ambitious high school senior from suburban California with a secret passion for writing. David Somers is a charming young Englishman who wants nothing more than to play guitar in his up-and-coming rock band. Though worlds apart, when fate brings Beth and David together in London in the summer of 1979, sparks fly. After Beth receives upsetting news from home, she finds herself drawn to David’s warm character, and an all-consuming love develops. Theirs is the kind of love one never forgets, and as Beth’s stay in London nears the end, the young devoted couple must face the inevitable question: will their romance fade with the passing of summer or will they realize their promise of never letting go?
Anne Carol grew up in the 1980’s, reading, writing, and listening to English rock bands. She continues to have one foot in the past, listening to classic alternative rock and watching old sitcoms. Anne writes about swoony musicians and, while she keeps a thread of hope in her emotion-packed stories, she doesn’t shy away from tough subject matter. When she’s not writing, Anne enjoys reading, traveling, hanging out with friends, wine tasting, and spending time with her husband and two teenage sons. She resides in Northern California, where most evenings you can find her curled up in front of a Hallmark movie with red wine and dark chocolate.
Never Let Go by Anne Carol is the first book in the Faithfully Yours series, a Christian YA surrounding the topic of first love. Set in 1979 the leading lady is just a couple of years older than I would have been then. I recognised her patterns of behaviour and emotions from anxiety to euphoria. The novel explores the theme of trust. It is hard to trust at times when jealousy threatens to take over. There is a discussion about remaining pure until the marriage bed. Temptation and teenage hormones are a powerful combination, requiring strength of character. Never Let Go is about dreams and hopes for the future. The reader is reminded of a time past when life seemed to just stretch out endlessly ahead. This is a delightful novel to kick off a promising new series. A word of caution... one thing that did surprise me was the occasional use of words I would not expect to find in a Christian novel. The novel is set in England so I assume this was to add authenticity to a character. However, being English myself, they were not words I would expect to hear or use in polite conversation. I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
Firstly I'd like to start with a thank-you to Anne herself for letting me be one of the minority who was lucky enough to read this book before the release date. I loved it!! For a first time novelist and an avid reader myself, first timers sometimes make me a little nervous. The plots are normally 'safe' and there is nothing to keep you hooked. However, this is absolutely NOT the case for this little gem. Firstly, something you will all need to know (and I kept forgetting) that this book is written in 2017. However, the character is looking back on her life as a 17 year old girl in 1979, so the story is actually written in that time. So keep this in mind whilst reading. I'm a sucker for any love story, and to tell you the truth, sometimes all the sex gets a little too repetitive and boring, and that's why I love this book. It's innocence personified. Beth is a 17 year old girl. She has a boyfriend who is one of the popular, football playing jocks and is loved by all the girls in school. This can't be said for everyone though. Beth is happy to wait until she is married before she has sex with a boy and her boyfriend is not happy with this situation at all. In the first few chapters you get to see the 'guard' that Beth constantly has up when dealing with her horny boyfriend, Rick. Things seem to go from bad to worse for them, and as the tension mounts in their relationship, the revelation that she has to go to England for a whole summer with her family just makes the tension worse. After packing their bags and getting on a plane for their long trip to see there english family, Beth tries to get out of her low mood of having to leave behind her boyfriend, even though she feels maybe she has left him for good. Stopping at a pub for lunch the two families ( Beth's dad and his brother's family) begin talking about all they've missed from each other's lives, when Beth feels like she's being watched. She turns around and sees the gorgeous david watching her from the bar, and this is when this story gets unbelievably good. David is a musician, trying to get his name in lights. He had a band and practises none stop in the hopes of one day capturing that elusive record deal. His dad thinks he should get a 'real' career, and his mum is caught in the middle, but david is adamant he'll get there someday, he just has to believe in himself. David and Beth are swept up in a undeniable connection and are sure that what they have is the real deal, but with david and his music, and Beth and her boyfriend back home, will these two lovers make it? Or will it be a summer they'll never forget, but wish they could?
Anne is a fantastic writer, her story draws you in and continually leaves you begging for more. This love story is like travelling back in time to the classic romances that made me fall in love with reading. Happiness is only a few clicks away, with this debut novel from a fantastic new author.
Pre-order now! Release date is the 25th of November
This teenage romance takes place in 1979, set in California and England. The two things I liked about this book (besides the romance) was the time and place. It's fun to go back in time when people had no cell phones and had to rely on letters and telephone calls via landlines. I think it's what made the angst of the teenage romance more realistic. I also loved seeing California and England. Sometime a story keeps us in one place so it was cool to travel back and forth with the heroine. I also liked the teenage romance. The ending is a cliffhanger as this is a continuation series. And Anne Carol stops at just the right spot that leaves you wanting to go to the next book.
*I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. The review is my own, honest opinion.
This is a beautifully written story of young love that I truly enjoyed. I found the premise interesting especially because it’s set in the summer of 1979 and a portion of the story takes place in London. The story is told by Beth Johnson as she looks back on her senior year of high school.
Beth is about the begin the summer before her senior year. She’s excited about spending time with her friends and boyfriend. That is until her parents decide to drop a bomb that they will be visiting family in England for the summer. She would rather spend her summer with her friends and at her home in California.
This story has has an air of innocence that made it appealing. Beth and her family begin their summer in England visiting relatives. Beth has a cousin Jenny who is the same age and the two makes plans to hang. Prior to leaving California, Beth has a fight with her boyfriend which leaves her with uncertainty about the status of their relationship. This puts an even greater damper on the trip and beginning of summer.
While out with the family in London, Beth has a chance meeting with David. David is a guitarist and part of a rock bank. Beth sees David checking her out and of course there is this instant attraction between the two. Things start out friendly, but it’s obvious with them both that their feelings are becoming deeper than they want to admit. They have a connection which is hard to resist.
David and Beth are swept up in young love, but what happens when Beth has to return to the States once summer is over? Will this be the end? Never Let Go reads like a classic romance. I never grew bored and always wanted more. These two will face many obstacles. Being an ocean apart is huge, but then there’s also David’s budding career with his band. It’s a pleasant story and I’m so excited that this is a series that will follow David and Beth. I can’t wait to see how the story continues to play out!
4.5 Never let Go stars!!
Wow! What a fun buddy read. This was the first book we’ve read by this author and we couldn’t stop messaging each other our thoughts along the way. Probably because it’s one of those books that sticks with the reader long after the last page is turned. The writing is well crafted and we loved the way the author captured the characters personalities. The characters were written in such a way that they could have been a neighbor or close friend. In fact, we loved the way the author developed the incredible relationship Beth had with her mother and cousin. The loyalty and protectiveness was beautifully captured by this author It’s such a moving story and often times we questioned whether this book could have been based on real events. We can’t express everything it caused us to feel, but we will say it’s the type of book that puts the reader right there in the moment.
As we read this story, there were two words we both felt described this love story… soul mates. That’s exactly what Beth and David had going for them. These characters were meant to be together and distance wouldn’t stand in their way. In fact, the distance only made their love stronger. It wasn’t always easy for them, but these two matured as the story unraveled. It just goes to show that if you truly love someone, love will find a way! Distance can make the heart fonder.
There’s so much about this story we loved, but we don’t want to ruin it with spoilers. We will say we really enjoyed this story from start to finish and loved the characters in this book. Anne Carol has a natural gift for writing flawlessly. We award Never Let Go five beautiful stars.
I was really excited about this book when the author contacted me to make a Book Trailer for it! She then offered me an ARC of it and I instantly said yes! I saw Blog Tour sign-up's and quickly signed up too! I couldn't wait to read this book! I mean, the cover just made me desperate to read the story behind it! I really enjoyed this book! It took me a few chapters to get into it, but once I did, I couldn't get through it fast enough! I read it in a few sittings too! The plot was written very well and it developed at a good pace to keep me wanting to read on! I would have liked something more to have happened in it though! It just sort of stayed on the same wavelength and nothing happened in it that made me desperate to see how things were going to progress! I'm sure more things will happen in the other books in the series though! The plot was also really beautiful and there were a few hot scenes too! I can say that I wasn't expecting the hot scenes lol! I also loved that this book was set in 1979! I don't think I've actually read a book set in 1979 before lol! I loved that it took place in the US and the UK too! It was fun to see the differences between the two countries, especially considering I live in the UK! The characters were awesome! Beth was the main character and I wasn't sure if I was going to like her as much as I did at the start of this book! She came off a bit winey, but she quickly got over that, and after she did, I really liked her! I wish Beth had properly broken up with her boyfriend before starting something with her love interest though! My opinion of her ex-boyfriend did change several times during this book too! Beth was such a normal person though and she was likable! I started to like her more as the book progressed and I'm sure I'll love her even more as this series progresses! She also came a long way in this book! David was the love interest of Beth and he was such a sweet guy! I adored him! He always knew the right thing to say and the right thing to do in situations and with Beth! He was also really protective of Beth when they were together, and even when they were on different continents lol! David was also determined to get somewhere with his band, and I really admired his determination! He also gave off a hot vibe and there was something about him that just made me smile whenever he was in the scene and he was interacting with Beth! His relationship with Beth was just so cute! I could see that they really loved each other! I can't wait to read the next book in this series! I know that it's going to continue Beth and David's story, and I can't wait to see where their relationship is going to go next! The ending of this book was also left at the perfect place! The cover for this book is enough to make me want to read it, even before I was offered an ARC lol! It's absolutely stunning and actually represents a certain scene in the book beautifully! Big thank you to Anne for an ARC of Never Let Go and to Enticing Journey Book Promotions for having me on the Blog Tour!
This was a solid 4 star very enjoyable read for me and I was surprised to find that the author, Anne Carol, is American. She’s written a lovely tale of romance in the 1970's set in London, England. Her grasp of English terms, phrases and quirks was excellent, I should know being British myself and was very well written and edited..
Beth is an American high school student, whose parents pack up one summer to take her to stay with their English relatives in London. Beth isn't overly happy, given she's going out with one of the high school Jocks Rick and fears that their relationship won't survive the distance or time apart. Rick is initially written as a typical sex on the brain teenager, but Beth keeps resisting, she wants to wait until she's married. As the story progresses he begins to change, as if the thought of the loss of Beth has woken him up and made him mature into the sort of boyfriend he should have been all along.
While in London however, a handsome guitarist, called David, catches Beth’s eye. She feels as drawn to him as he seems to be to her, but she feels loyal to her boyfriend back home. Is he sitting pining for her, or is it a case of while the cat's away, the mice will play?
Never Let Go is the first chapter in a sweet romantic growing love story, exploring the conflict Beth is feeling and the difficulties of long distance love. I was routing for her to be with one of the men, though I won't spoil it and say who, you need to read this to experience Beth’s journey on your own. I look forward to reading Never Fall and continuing with this story. It made a nice change from my usual genre of erotic romance, to focus more on the romance and less on the sex.
Never Let Go is a endearing story of young, true love. Anne has written a lovely tale of 2 young people meeting and falling in love, and all the the drama and emotions that entails...compounded by the fact our young lovers live an ocean apart!
Beth and David meet when she and her parents are on vacation, visiting family in London. There's an instant attraction, but because of things Beth is dealing with at home- cue jerk of a boyfriend Rick, she's reluctant for anything to develop between her and David. Put the pull between them is too hard for her to resist, and when she finds out Rick isn't the faithful boyfriend he claims to be, she breaks things off with him and opens herself up to the possibility of a relationship with David.
David, oh David. He is the ultimate sweetheart! Beth stood no chance against his caring, sensitive, kind-hearted self! He's determine to win her over, and along the way he surely won me over! Although in many ways Beth is your typical teenage girl, she's also not- especially when it comes to her convictions about sex, her hopes for her future, and her love for David.
Young love wasn't smooth sailing once Beth was back home in America. The long distance was getting to them both, and there were times it seemed like the separation was going to be too much for them. But I loved how Anne handled these situations for them, how they were able to work through the tough times. I'm anxious to jump into the next story, to see what happens next for this sweet couple!
Beth is an American student and in 1979 her parents take her on an extended holiday to London to stay with her aunt and uncle whilst her father teaches through the summer at the university. This is not good news to Beth as it takes her away from her boyfriend, Rick. However things haven’t been going so great for them as Rick is adding more pressure on Beth to takes things further than second base.
When in England, Beth finds she gets on well with her English cousin and finds herself becoming more attracted to a local – David, who is hot and plays the guitar. The story then evolves about her summer of love with David.
This was a sweet first love story with all the intricacies and angst that entails for a young teenager. It takes place at the end of the seventies when the punk rock era was abound in England so it was engaging to be taken back to my childhood days. Being from England there was some minor blips with English and American phrases/words such as her English cousin calling the streets, blocks but other than these tiny issues it was a nice easy read. A good start to a series that delivers the journey of Beth and her growing up.
For those that love to read a romance without the need for pages of erotic sex, then this would definitely be one to read. Three and a half stars.
3.5-4 stars. Beth Johnson is going to London for the summer before her senior year of high school. It's 1979 and Beth wants to be a regular teenager and hang out with her friends. But a trip to London might be just what she needs since she and her boyfriend Rick are at odds with each other and Beth needs change of scenery. While in London, Beth meets David Somers and instantly, they are drawn to each other in a way that makes it hard to avoid one another.
This is a high school aged romance and so they act very much like high schoolers with the drama that happens. The developing romance between Beth and David is actually very sweet and cute, a confirmation to Beth that she has found love compared to what she has with Rick. And during this time period, long distance relationships can be difficult when the only form of communication is letters and phone calls. So there's a lot of trust involved on both sides, especially when the other one cannot be present to help deal with everyday issues.
It's a decent story, as well as a bit of a blast from the past trying to remember life in the late 70s. I really liked David a lot and Beth was all right. They are fairly mature for their age and have intense feelings for one another, sort of insta-love. The level of steam is also very high school level. It will be interesting to see where their relationship goes next.
This was a decent teenage romance. Beth seemed like a nice enough girl, and was destined to repeat her grandparents' relationship.
The one thing that bugged me was that I think Beth should've been cut and dry with Rick when she wanted to end things. She was kind of wavering at first.
I liked Jenny's character. She seemed to be like a cousin everyone has. David's mom was quite nice as well.
I was kind of shocked at the end. I'm surprised Beth's parents went along as young as she was, but then again the book takes place in 1979.
I would like to read the second book, so I can continue on Beth and David's journey.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. I reviewed this book for Kylie's Fiction Addiction.
Never Let Go by Anne Carol is one of the sweetest love stories I have read in a long time. I absolutely loved this book, it was so refreshing not to have all the erotic sex scenes. I forgot what it is like to read a sweet well written love story with, very likeable characters. Beth is from California, a high school student and David lives in England that plays guitar for rock band trying to make it. Can their love for each other survive? This is my first book by Anne Carol and I will not be my last, she a new reader I am so excited to read more by her.
The characters were SUPER immature and naive. The back and forth "fighting & making up" and overall not trusting each other made the story drag on and on.
On top of that the characters were like SUPER DUPER, SUPER DUPER touchy feely-lovey dovey-kissy kissy. As much as they talked about waiting until marriage they sure flirted the temptation a little too much in my opinion.
I honestly didn't see much substance behind the story.
Absolutely loved this book! Read it one setting. It just took over me, it's been awhile since I've had that in a book. So glad I read this book and can't wait to start book two! I love the chemistry, love, and over all the relationship between Beth and David!
I could relate this to book in so many ways. Set in 1979, this is about Beth, a 17 year old girl. I, too, was 17 in 1979 so I could really relate to her feelings and all that was happening around her. Part of this book is set in England, so that set my British loving heart in love with this book even more.
This is a YA novel and deals with teenage love, the raging hormones and emotional feelings that are always just on the surface. Her highschool boyfriend, Rick, is a typical jock that puts a lot of pressure on Beth sexually. She feels very strongly about waiting until marriage and this is a big thing between the two of them. When Beth's family decides to visit England for the summer, she has to say goodbye to Rick and isn't overly happy about this because she's sure that Rick will be with another girl while she's away.
After arriving in England, however, she meets David who is pretty much polar opposite of Rick. He's kind and considerate and I love that he wants to really make something of himself with his band. I could really relate to this, as well, and enjoyed reading about this.
I enjoyed this first book in the Faithfully Yours Series and would recommend this to everyone, despite your age. It's a sweet story with wonderful characters and you'll be drawn in and be anxious to read the next book!I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
*This book was provided to me by JustRead Book Tours. I received a copy of this book to review but I was not financially compensated in any way. The opinions expressed are my own and are based on my observations while reading this book.
When I first began reading Never Let You Go, Book 1 of Anne Carol’s Faithfully Yours Series, I honestly thought it just too young for me. The main characters, Beth Johnson and David Somers, are in their later teens, one on the cusp of graduating high school, the other having another year to complete before graduating. Both were expected to continue their education by their parents. I persisted in reading Never Let You, and soon found myself drawn in to this charming love story set in 1979.
When Beth finds out her family has planned summer vacation to be a visit family in Great Britain, she never dreamed she would meet the love of her life. While exploring the families neighborhood with her British cousin, Jenny, Beth experiences a magical moment in a local cafe.
David, an aspiring musician, is stunned when he first sees Beth, but that it is all it took. He and his band mates are working hard to get Vinyl Fog noticed.
Beth and David experience an immediate attraction that cannot be denied, spending the rest of Beth’s visit together every chance they can. As Beth prepares to return home to California, the two are torn. Still unsure where their newfound relationship may go, the two agree to a long distance relationship.
I received a complimentary e-copy of this book from the publisher via Just Read Tours and am not required to wrote a positive review. All thoughts and opinions, therein, are entirely my own.
The main characters in the book are late teens so this series may not appeal to a big audience. I was intrigued by the book description with it being a 4 part love series between Beth and David and the story line sounded pretty intriguing.
I enjoyed reading about Beth's adventures in London with her family and meeting David and their summer love story. I really liked Beth's family-especially her mom and their unfailing support and love.
It was noted in the front of the ebook and at the bottom of the book description that this "book has been revised from the original 2014 edition and is now told from a Christian worldview."
I didn't really feel that was the case. There's hardly any mention of Christian beliefs or God; and there's alot of alcohol, getting drunk, under age drinking, premarital sex, drug references, and swearing references (not the actual swear words) all throughout the book.
I am going to read book 2 to see if the story line and characters continue to appeal to me and the story line keeps my interest.
I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
From the meant their eyes meet across a London pub, Beth and David feel an instant connection. But Beth won’t cheat on the boyfriend waiting for her back home in California. And David lives in London.
They spend an idealistic summer together but when Beth returns home, the relationship challenges cause David and Beth to question their decision to stay together.
Told from Beth’s point of view, Never Let Go is the beginning of Beth’s live story—complete with obstacles, misunderstandings, angst, and arguments. Beth is young and makes some immature decisions but learns from them and grows closer to David because of it.
I’m looking forward to finding out what’s next for these two in their journey.

I received a copy of the rewritten book from JustRead Tours for review.
The foreword noted it had been rewritten to be clean and reflect the author’s Christian faith.
Well...I felt it could have used some more rewriting. The Sex Pistols as Beth’s favorite band, some borderline edgy scenes, calling characters “pricks”, and David “respecting” Beth’s desire to remain a virgin because of her faith but not expressing it in kind (a point of concern as to whether he shares that faith) were just a few of my concerns. I also found the writing style to be overly descriptive in general—would have preferred less telling, more showing.
I did enjoy the London scenes, having been there a year ago at this time and thus able to mentally picture the settings. A great city.
This book was a sweet story of Beth and David, two high schoolers who meet quite unexpectedly when Beth visits London with her family. Having left California, and a rocky relationship, behind, Beth is surprised when she feels an instant attraction to David. I like that she is concerned about doing the right thing and trying not to proceed with a relationship with David until she has things figured out at home, though she doesn't always see things through. This story was a fun read. I received this book from Just reads tours. This is my honest review and is in now way influenced by receiving a complimentary copy.
I discovered this one from a readers’ group. I don’t know what I was expecting when I opened it other than to pass some time, but I had a hard time putting it down. In all honesty, the plot isn’t as high stakes as some of the other books I would call my favorites, and the conflicts resolve rather quickly and easily. But There’s something about Beth and David. I wanted to see things work out for them. I wanted to see them mature over the course of the story. And I feel like it was an investment well spent.
Frustrated that I already read this book. But the author has added a new prologue set in 2019 (I’m reading in 2018) the book is set in 1997. Teen drinking and attempted assault. Is her parents going to church make this Christian fiction? I admit that it is a good read and would help teen be aware of situations and be okay with waiting till marriage.
Spoilers.
By book two I think this series is more adult than YA. Marriage, miscarriage ( described) attempted rape, drugs marital sex (not overly described)
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Although not my usual reading fare, Never Let Go kept my interest. It's steaming hot for sure. Maybe a bit too much so for a senior citizen. But I can see how great it would be for teens and young adults in the throws of dating and budding love. Who wouldn't be charmed by a handsome English block? That accent is irresistible. The book is extremely well edited and the writing is terrific, too. Good job, Anne Carol.
Cute, incredibly fast paced YA romance set in 1979. It definitely reads as a fan fiction type novel about falling for the leader of a rock band. The story is completely focused on David from Beth's perspective and everyone in Beth's life is like "yeah, you've known him for two seconds but you're meant to be!" It certainly lost any chance at reality with that alone.
Book two would be interesting to see where Beth and David go from here.
I really liked the story line and characters. I was rooting for their long distance relationship and felt the concerns were discussed realistically. While Beth in particular was a bit temperamental, I reminded myself that’s how teenage romance can be! Romantic and sweet.
Never let go is the perfect title for this story. There are ups and downs kind of like a like a roller coaster. The main character has many decisions to make as she finishes high school and decides what to do next with her life. She has lots of options. Definitely worth reading this lovely story.
A book with a distinctly YA feel grows into a more adult story as you culminate into a blossoming relationship. I found it sweet and endearing and wanted to know the rest of their story.
Elizabeth "Beth" Johnson is headed to England to spend the summer of 1979, in London so her father can take some courses and nothing upsets her more than having to spend time away from her boyfriend, Rick McGuire. Although things are extremely up and down with him, she is looking forward to spending their senior year together.
Yet when she gets to England she meets the charming David Somers and is immediately taken in by his presence. When she hears some unsettling news from back home she decides to go ahead and get to know David better. By as summer draws to a close she needs to decide if a long-distance love can truly survive jealousy and time apart.
Then when she gets home she discovers a new side of Rick and maybe his changes will show Beth how much he has changed for her in his effort to work things out with her.
I really enjoyed this book and I think part of it was because it took place in 1979, when the only way to communicate with someone was through the mail or by phone which made long-distant relationships so much harder. Beth was a little lost at the beginning of the book as she really wanted her relationship with Rick to last and she definitely put up with a lot.
Beth's relationship with David definitely moved fast but in high school love can seem so real and strong. I liked how she was willing to give love a chance and really held on to her beliefs about certain things through her relationship with both Rick and David. I also liked how she looked at the future and really thought about her options.
