One Liner: Hopeful

When romance author Rosie Winters’s fairy tale marriage ends, she decides it’s time for a fresh start and moves to Scotland. As she enjoys the summer at her late grandmother’s coastal cottage, she bumps into the lighthouse’s new keeper, Mitch.

It seems like they could help each other and make a future together if they are willing to work for it.
The story comes in Rosie’s first-person POV.

My Thoughts:

I wondered why the author’s name sounded familiar until I realized I had read another book from this standalone series. Luckily, I like this a bit more than the other one.

The Scottish setting is beautiful, and the lighthouse has a decent role, so the title suits the book. I love the descriptions of Rowan Bay, the sea, the misty pathways, the unexpected storms, etc.

Bronte and Kane, the two adorable dogs, steal the show in many ways. You can see Brontë running on the cover. Cutie, right?

There’s also a subplot of sorts about the FMC’s late grandmother. It was well done, even if the climax was a bit too saccharine (and that comes from someone who likes HEA). Guess it aligns with the genre’s vibe to an extent.

The book touches upon some triggering topics like infidelity, spousal death, death of parents and loved ones, jealousy, confidence issues, etc.

This is again women’s fiction with a touch of romance, like the previous book I read (#7). However, it worked better since I could see a bit of attraction between the main leads, and it brought everything together.

This may not be an issue for everyone, but there are too many characters whose names start with R – Rosie, Recce, Rhea, Ruth… *sigh*

To summarize, A Scottish Lighthouse Escape is a hopeful read despite the predictability and a too-sweet ending. It’s pretty fast-paced and can be completed in a couple of sittings.

Thank you, Rachel's Random Resources and One More Chapter (HarperCollins), for the eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

I received a free copy of, A Scottish Lighthouse Escape, by Julie Shackman, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is book 9 in the Scottish Escapes series. Rosie is devastated when her partner Joe passed away, then she learned he was not as faithful and loyal as she thought he was. Rosie needs a change of scenery, so she decides to go to Scotland. This was a bit of an emotional read, I did enjoy Rosies character.

A delightfully wintery tale that unexpectedly moves into Christmas, I thought this made a great read for December. It’s not too festive but it certainly is packed full of warmth, love and finishes on well-needed optimism. This was another enjoyable read from Shackman.

The story opens with a pretty sad tale as successful writer Rosie discovers that her recently passed husband had many more secrets than she ever predicted. Rosie cannot escape the memories that haunt her in London and, on an emotional whim, decides to head to the other end of the country where her late grandparents had a cottage. It’s standing empty, so Rosie sees this as her refuge from the horrors that she has experienced.

Unfortunately, she takes her bad mood and negative emotions with her, taking it out on a few of the local residents. However, a run-in with the new lighthouse keeper sees Rosie being challenged head-on. Mitch is not deterred by Rosie’s negativity and insistence of refusing any sort of help – even if it means she is at a disadvantage. As such, readers get to watch in delight as their relationship alters over the novel, finishing with a well-deserved happy ending for Rosie. Mitch’s background as a lighthouse keeper is also not simple and this created parallels with Rosie’s own journey.

Secondary to this, I enjoyed watching the story unfold surrounding Rosie’s grandmother and the discovered artwork. I really liked learning more about the past and how Rosie’s grandmother had secrets too – but not ones that would cause hurt to others. This added another layer to the novel and I was keen to see how Rosie’s grandmother would be rightfully celebrated for her talents, rather than continue to be shunned by the local community.

The setting felt magical in this book. The remoteness of the location is exactly the tonic that Rosie needs and I think this was reinforced by the sweeping coastlines and unpredictable weather. Add in a decent snow storm, and I found myself reaching for the blanket: a perfect recipe for a winter read. To be honest, I was secretly hoping that this was a genuine place because it sounded like the perfect getaway!

Packed full of feel-good feelings, this was definitely a heart-warmer and I fell into this story with ease. I loved seeing Rosie’s transition and the opportunities that come her way, especially after she declares she will no longer writer romance fiction after her own experiences. Readers just know that Mitch is the key to unlocking Rosie’s self-declared writer’s dismissal and I was excited to see this journey take place.

With thanks to One More Chapter, Harper Collins and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Did I fall for the cover and the fact that this book is set in Scotland? Absolutely. I’m a total sucker for cozy, small-town Scottish romances!

I’ve read several of Julie Shackman’s books, and this one didn’t disappoint. There’s something about her writing that just feels comforting, even when the story digs into some heavier themes. I read this during my summer break, but honestly it would’ve been even better on a chilly autumn or winter day.

The story touches on some emotional topics like infidelity, grief from losing a spouse or parents, jealousy, and struggles with self-confidence, so there’s definitely some depth and heartache mixed in. But at the same time, there's a sweet romance woven through it all, which gives it a really nice balance.

If you’re into heartfelt stories with likable characters, a splash of romance and a strong sense of place, this one’s a great pick. Just maybe save it for a rainy day.

Many thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review.

I quite enjoyed this latest by Julie Shackman, set in a remote area of Scotland by a lighthouse (because it is the "Lighthouse Escape."). While this is listed as #9 in the Scottish Escapes series, I don't recall anyone in the book being featured in a previous entry, so it clearly stands alone.

I received an advanced readers copy of this book and I am so appreciative of the opportunity to leave a review. Unfortunately, I was really hoping to enjoy this book more. Unfortunately, I had to DNF it at 20%. There’s just something odd about the writing, the characters don’t express hardly any emotion when things happen. The sentences seem to not flow very well, I’m not sure but it almost seems as if the book was written with AI. I had such a difficult time connecting with the characters. It just seemed as if it went from one extreme to the other without any explanation of what’s going on. Rosie randomly declared she wanted to stop writing because she found out her husband cheated on her. Out of nowhere she just says “I’m never writing again” and there was no lead up to it as to why. I’m not a fan of delivering negative reviews on books because I truly love to read, and I really did try to enjoy this book, but the writing style was just way off. It doesn’t flow well, and the character development wasn’t there.

A gorgeous story of second chances, or forgiving yourself and moving forward.
A Scottish Lighthouse Escape is a romantic and emotional story set in the beautiful Scottish Highlands, and the setting for this one certainly makes the story.
I loved the sound of Rowan Bay and the lighthouse - the perfect setting for that get away from it all feeling. Rosie’s decision to get away felt the right one and Rowan Bay seemed to tick the boxes.
Julie Shackman has written some wonderful characters- Reece and the memories of Tilda were so strong and vivid and played such an important part in Rosie’s life.

What a beautiful, heart-warming and uplifting story! I have enjoyed all of Julie Shackman’s novels but this one from the Scottish Escape series seems to be extra special. It still has her charm, wit, enemies to lovers and clever mystery elements but it feels deeper and more layered in the relationship department. There are some serious effects from trauma exposed— shock from betrayal and lingering grief from loss of loved ones. These sorts of negative life events can place a real strain and drain on a person’s confidence and it is no wonder many seek fresh starts in new locations. A Scottish Lighthouse Escape explores these topics plus the effects of rejection caused by class snobbery.

Rosie Winters is a romance author and she has had some modest literary success. Her heroes are inspired by her own husband. But a tragedy occurs followed by an unexpected reveal that turns her life upside down and makes her feel she never wants to write or love again. Julie carefully and respectfully explores the predicaments that Rosie finds herself in and the results are honest and realistic reactions. Rosie longs to get away to a place where she feels safe and loved so she heads to the cottage of her grandparents in a coastal village in Scotland—far from London. Her little dog, Bronte, is her comfort companion. She adds an endearing element to the story. Having a dog, I can appreciate every comment about Bronte’s actions and responses.

As always, Julie provides some atmospheric descriptions of the land and seascape. This locale offers a stunning environment for the characters to interact with and often nature reflects their moods and movements. Rosie’s visit to the quaint cottage opens the door to many surprises, about the lighthouse, its keeper and her grandmother who was an artist. A mysterious older man appears on the scene as well. What does he have to do with her late grandmother? Well, this part of the story is moving, tender and captivating. Elements of mystery swirl around these two as Rosie uncovers her grandmother’s past. This keeps the focus off herself and her own troubles while giving her a new purpose and mission to fulfil for her late grandmother’s wishes. She was a very talented artist but lacked confidence in her own abilities. This may have been a result of a few negative events that happened in her life.

The Lighthouse is an important icon in this story. When the man who has been the lighthouse keeper retires, a new young man takes his place. Rosie immediately rejects him because more change is not what she wants just now. She came to the coastal village to reclaim her happy memories and safe feelings of familiarity. Mitch is not part of the plan and no matter how good and kind he is and tries to help her with his neighbourly acts, she resists for a fair while. Of course, time sees her breaking down and barriers are withdrawn but not easily or swiftly. And Mitch’s dog plays a part. Gradually their relationship grows and I liked that it is a gradual more progressive one.

Other characters like Reece add extra warmth and substance to the plot. He is a key support figure that she needs to help her have courage to do what needs to be done in dealing with her grandmother’s belongings and legacy. His attributes are admirable and sincere and his kindness to Rosie made me smile. He is a man who carried a lifetime of regret so it is lovely he gets a chance to make amends (sort of) at least contribute in a positive way.

Ruth, the owner of a prestigious gallery is quite the character! And it is intriguing to learn about her past and connection to Rosie’s grandmother. Quite a backstory there! The question we all ask, will she change and make amends for her past behaviour? No more discussion on that because you need to read it and see but I will add that this part of the plot, offers some excellent surprises.

A Sottish Lighthouse Escape is a special kind of romance novel with a beautiful theme. I am reminded of Mitch’s comment about of what a lighthouse is: ‘a powerful beacon that illuminates a path through darkness and uncertainty, towards the light.’ And this is what happens for these characters. They help each other find their way back to happiness and healing. I say this most sincerely, I truly loved this novel and its characters. I was completely drawn into the storyline. I could not put it down once I started. It resonates with love, an extra layer of maturity, wisdom and skill and left my heart squeezed, teary and smiling. This magnificent story shines with a hope and brilliance that captivated my heart. 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A Scottish Lighthouse Escape is a heartwarming story that will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride.

I am a sucker for a small-town romance, and if that small town is located in England or Scotland, that’s even better. I adored this book. Julie is a master at finding that balance between light and fluffy and heavy emotional moments. Let’s first talk about the setting. The small Scottish town that Rosie has fled to comes alive on the pages. The pages are bursting with lush and vivid descriptions that make me feel like I am there. All the secondary characters in this book were delightful and made the story so rich. I love it when the secondary cast of characters complements the main plot perfectly. I found myself so invested in their side stories, and to be honest, I felt like I was a part of this community.

The overall story is typical of Julie Shackman. You get that cozy romance, but also some kind of mystery. Both the romance and mystery unfold beautifully and kept me entertained the entire time. Rosie is a great character. Her life is pretty perfect at the beginning of this book, and all I could think was that shit is about to hit the fan, which of course it does. That perfect life that Rosie had is not shattered into a million pieces with the sudden passing of her husband, who turns out to have been having an affair with another woman for years. Rosie is beside herself and vows she will never write another romance again. She flees to Scotland in order to escape all the reminders of her husband. When she gets there, Rosie meets Mitch, the lighthouse keeper. I liked Rosie. She’s independent to a fault. She has a hard time letting anyone help her, but as the story progresses, she begins to realize that it’s ok to ask for help. And that help comes in the form of the gorgeous and mysterious lighthouse keeper. Mitch’s character was perfect for this story. His character has plenty of depth, and as his relationship with Rosie progresses, we get to peel those layers back and learn more about his mysterious past.

If you are looking for a feel-good romance to get swept into this summer, then you definitely need to read A Scottish Lighthouse Escape.

A Scottish Lighthouse Escape by Julie Shackman is a romance with plenty of anti-romance involved. Rosie Winters is a successful romance writer, in the midst of the release party for her newest novel. Her husband, Joe, as usual, was late. Sadly as he was running to get there, he didn’t look and got hit by a truck. Dead instantly. Rosie didn’t know how she would cope. Actually she didn’t cope very well. But things got worse several months later, when her agent received a letter, with pictures, the woman saying she and Joe had been in a relationship for three years. He had been running late for her party because he’d been with her. That was the final blow. She threw some things in a carry all and set out for Scotland and her grandmother’s cottage. Along the way she made the few calls she needed to, including her in-laws, filling them in on the situation. Her friend, Barclay, had looked over the cottage well. Everything was in order; there was even food in the refrigerator. But she was grumpy. To everyone.

Barclay was the lighthouse operator but now he was leaving town with his lady love. The new lighthouse operator was young and very good-looking. She was grumpy to him, too. Well, now we know where this is going, don’t we? Rosie finally found her way out of her grief and hurt and started to live again. She discovered her grandmother’s art, much more extensive than she had realized and determined to mount an exhibit. Mitch, the good-looking lighthouse operator, was eager to help her. The reader stayed with Rosie as she worked through her hurt. It was emotional and hurt. She couldn’t write. She was done with romance. There is plenty going on in this book. Plenty of backstory, locals, and incidentals. Good plot. The exciting thing about romance is always the happy ending. It makes the story all that much better, knowing where it’s going.

I was invited to read A Scottish Lighthouse Escape by Harper Collins UK-One More Chapter. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #HarperCollinsUKOneMoreChapter #JulieShackman #AScottishLighthouseEscape

As this book gets going, there is a huge, jaw-dropping moment that had me wondering if this was going to be a book where my happy-ever-after would need to look different. There is a devastating blow to Rosie Winter’s marriage that would leave me contented to avoid any future connections, too.
Licking her wounds, she heads a little north of Edinburgh to seek solace in her grandparents’ former cottage. Once there, she discovers that her friend, the local lighthouse keeper, is stepping down and moving away. This adds to the maelstrom of feelings she’s already experiencing and leads her to question her decision to move to the idyllic coastal village. Thankfully, she has the devotion of her lovely dog, Bronte, to keep her focused.
When Rosie meets the incredibly gruff replacement lighthouse keeper, Mitch, she quickly realises that he’s best avoided and gives him a wide berth. He may have been extremely handsome, but she’s not in the market for another relationship. In fact, she’s more interested in finding out why her grandmother’s artwork is not welcome in the local, Lumiere gallery. Discovering her grandmother’s diaries, after meeting her former fiancé, Rosie embarks upon a mission to have her grandmother’s artwork accepted and displayed in the gallery.
As always, there’s a real sense of place with this book, and I loved imagining the views across the shore. Her grandparents’ cottage felt homely, and even the lighthouse with the nearby bothy felt like an atmospheric addition to the coastal setting. Although the sequences set in London felt familiar, I didn’t miss them once the story landed in Rowan Bay.
Once again, Julie Shackman has introduced us to an eclectic group of characters who each needed a chance to heal from their heartaches. The story is gentle, and I felt great comfort as it wrapped around me. I do hope you’ll give this book a real chance and enjoy the gentler side of romantic fiction.
I would hate to reveal any spoilers, but I can promise you that this beautiful book delivers on every level and shows that there is always a chance for a broken heart to recover.

Get ready to be swept away to the windswept shores of the Scottish Highlands in this heartfelt and uplifting romance from bestselling author Julie Shackman.

When romance author Rosie Winters finds her own love story ending abruptly, she escapes to the one place that holds fond memories - her late grandmother’s coastal cottage.

Set against a backdrop of crashing waves, wild beauty, and a charming lighthouse, A Scottish Lighthouse Escape is a comforting, slow-burn story about second chances and healing.

This isn’t your typical rom-com with a quick-fire meet-cute.

Instead, Shackman offers something more textured.

Rosie’s encounter with Mitch, the enigmatic new lighthouse keeper, is both tender and intriguing. Their connection builds gradually, making it all the more believable and rewarding.

Alongside that central relationship, the growing friendship between Rosie and Reece adds warmth and depth, reminding us that support can come from the most unexpected places.

The vivid descriptions transported me straight to the rugged Scottish coastline, I could almost feel the sea breeze and hear the waves lapping against the sand.

Shackman excels at creating a strong sense of place, and the lighthouse setting brings a real sense of quiet reflection and hope.

A Scottish Lighthouse Escape is perfect for readers looking for an emotionally rich, atmospheric romance with heart and soul. It’s a gentle reminder that sometimes, the best stories are the ones we least expect.

Julie Shackman's A Scottish Lighthouse Escape is a charming summer romance that transports readers to the beautiful Scottish Highlands. The latest in the Scottish Escapes series, it sees us meet Rosie Winters, a romance author whose own romance has just exploded. Desperate to escape her devastation, Rosie heads to the coastal home of her recently deceased grandmother, a house where happy memories abound and solitude awaits.

The book is a master at building an intimate, cozy mood. The descriptions of the wild coastline, the quaint lighthouse, and the mischievous dolphins in the bay put you there with Rosie. Her intention to "wallow for a while" is soon upset by Mitch, the handsome and enigmatic new lighthouse keeper. Their love story unfolds at a tender, heart-warming pace, as Rosie becomes enchanted with the stranger.

A Scottish Lighthouse Escape is the ideal read for anyone in need of a light-hearted, feel-good story of second chances and falling in love in the most unlikely of places. It's an uplifting and engrossing book that will transport you to a world of stunning scenery and a love story that will have you smiling. The writing skills of the author are absolutely flawless and I was engaged throughout the book without getting bored at all. Through her captivating writing style I could visualise the plot unfolding in front of my eyes little by little. I will highly recommend this book.

Who doesn’t enjoy a good lighthouse story? They hold a certain charm, don’t you think? I’ve stumbled upon a handful of books featuring lighthouses, and I’ve loved every single one. So, when I picked up Julie Shackman’s latest, I was excited and it did not disappoint!

In this beautifully crafted tale, we meet Rosie Winters, a young and successful romance author based in England. I admire her strength to move on after facing a whirlwind of challenges that many of us could only imagine in a lifetime. When her world crumbles, she loses her faith in love and retreats to her grandparents’ cozy cottage in the breathtaking Scottish Highlands, bringing along her lovely dog, Bronte.

Mitch Carlisle is the new lightkeeper. Oh boy, this character! Handsome, kind-hearted, selfless, and a dash of mystery thrown in. He had me at hello. Initially a tough nut to crack, he slowly works his way into Rosie’s heart, revealing his own past struggles along the way. The banter between Rosie and Mitch is delightful; it made me grin and tugged at my heartstrings all at once. Their slow-burning romance is sweet, warm, and oh-so-comforting. As they navigate through their heartbreaking pasts, I found myself cheering them on with every turn of the page.

What surprised me even more was the secondary storyline revolving around Rosie’s grandmother. It added such a wonderful twist to the narrative and introduced captivating supporting characters that brought the entire story to life.

And don’t forget the setting! Rowan Bay felt so real, I could practically smell the sea air and feel the cool breezes of the quaint town engulfing me. It was the perfect backdrop for all the blossoming romance and friendships taking shape.

In a nutshell, this charming read has something for everyone–engaging characters, an enchanting setting, and a storyline that’s beautifully woven together. If you’re on the hunt for a book that will touch your heart and leave you with a little bit of reflection, definitely give this one a try.

Thank you to Ms. Shackman for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

As most readers, I always enjoy a story which has an author as ots main character. When we first meet Rosie, we see her at a triumphant moment in her career when she feels on top of the world. This does not last and she has some earth shattering shocks in store, which lead to her retreating to her late grandparents' cottage in the remote Highlands. She is looking to escape from everything she has known, even her writing.

It turns out that she is not the only one who is retreating to this remote coast to reset their life. Rosie is devastated to realise that the lighthouse keeper is leaving to be replaced by Mitch, a man of some mystery. Mitch and Rosie do not get off on the right step but eventually, a friendship begins to develop. Rosie finds herself delving into her family history and uncovering parts of her grandparents' lives which she did not know about. Rosie finds herself reassessing what is important in life and becomes determined to establish some appreciation for her grandmother's artistic talent.

With a slow burn romance and family secrets, together with a glorious setting, this is a great addition to the series.

In short: new starts

A Scottish Lighthouse Escape by Julie Shackman

I think I’ve mentioned in previous book reviews how much I adore lighthouses, so I was delighted to receive an ARC of this book through NetGalley.
The story opens with the protagonist, Rosie, experiencing a life-altering and traumatic event. Because of this, Rosie decides to leave her previous life behind and heads to her grandparents’ cottage in the Scottish Highlands with her dog Bronte. Rosie soon gets caught up in the goings-on of life in her grandparents’ coastal village, and there she finds a new chapter in her life.

I loved it! An easy read for me - I was invested in the main characters and enjoyed how their stories unfolded and came together. I also loved the coastal setting and, of course, the lighthouse!

There are other books in the Scottish Escape series, which are all standalone novels. This was #9. So there are plenty of other titles to read if, like me, you like this one!

Thank you to One More Chapter/HarperCollins for providing this advanced digital copy via NetGalley in return for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Rosie is a successful romance author, living the dream, until her life implodes. She needs to escape because her home, career and life in London are no longer what she needs. Happy memories of her grandparents' remote cottage in the coastal Scottish Highlands make her decide to run to Scotland. She appreciates the solitude, but surrounded only by memories, she wonders if she has made a mistake. Mitch is the new lighthouse keeper. He wants to make his new role a success and help others, but his first meeting with his neighbour is not encouraging. I was engaged in the story from its beginning and invested in Rosie. The emotional start makes you wonder if she will find happiness again, but when she meets Mitch, you hope for something good to happen between them. The reader is taken on an emotional journey, since both Rosie and Mitch have pain in their pasts. I enjoyed the romance, the storytelling and the story's heartbreaking and heartwarming qualities.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

So this is the first book I have read by Julie Shackman and I would definitely read another! For me, the story started off slow and I wasn't sure I would be able to read it. But after the first chapter, I was hooked! This is a perfect summer beach read! It starts off with Rosie, a best selling romance author at her release party for her newest novel. Joe, her husband is running late; Next thing you know, and the part that sucks me in, there is an accident that turns her life upside down. Devastated and wanting to leave her life behind, she decides to hide out in her grandparents cottage in rural Scotland with her best friend Bronte, her dog. As usual, life has other plans and introduces her to Mitch, the new lighthouse keeper, with issues of his own. But over time, MItch and Kane (his dog) may need Rosie as much as she needs him.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for my arc copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

A delightful summer read about a romance author who flees to Scotland after discovering her dead husband was having an affair when he died.

There is something special about books set in the Highlands. The descriptions of the setting, the characters you encounter and their stories and adventures will warm your heart.

This was interesting from start to finish. Filled with secrets, mystery and intrigue. The small town setting was perfect with nosy neighbours who mean well and can’t respect boundaries.

I love Rosie’s relationship with Mia and Lola, her budding friendship with Reece and the slow burn between her and the new lighthouse keeper, Mitch.

The plot explores themes of starting afresh, hope, resilience, strength, preservation, moving on, forgiveness, grief, friendship and love.

Fans of atmospheric fiction/romance will enjoy this. I received an advanced copy and the review is mine and voluntary.

Thank you to NetGalley and One More Chapter for a copy of this lovely book in exchange for an honest review.

To be honest when I saw the front cover and read the title I was thrilled to get my hands on a copy of the book. I would love to escape to Scotland and live in a quite little village or better still in a light house. I hadn't realised this is actually book 9 in the Scottish Escapes series. I have read a couple of other installments though not in order. They can be read as standalones.

Romance author Rosie is devestaed when her beloved husband dies. She then finds out, that he isn't the man she thought he was at all. Needing to escape, she travels to Scotland, where she used to send summers at her late grandmother’s coastal cottage. Not looking for anything but some peace of mind, Rosie is shocked when she meets and starts to have feelings for Mitch, the new lighthouse keeper.

I really enjoyed this book, it took me on an emotional roller coaster. Both characters are written brilliantly and I was routing for them both in the end.

A Scottish Lighthouse Escape marks Julie Shackman’s thirteenth novel.

Tragically, Rosie Winters, a romance author, faces the heartbreaking loss of her beloved husband in a devastating road accident during the launch of her latest book. Resolute in her decision not to write again, she retreats to her late grandparents' cottage in the Scottish Highlands weeks after his passing, seeking solace and a way to process the challenges life has presented. Accompanied by her little dog, Bronte, Rosie embarks on a journey of reflection, where she uncovers her grandmother's journals. Will she find the peace she longs for and navigate her grief?

I was engrossed throughout and read the novel in two sittings! I loved Rosie's compassion for Ruth despite everything! Mitch is simply dreamy! The vivid descriptions of the settings are enchanting and have me yearning to visit! Thank you, Julie, for crafting my latest escape!

I have read a few books in this series so was looking forward to this one. Wow, what can I say, is it's my favourite one yet.

I loved both main characters, Rosie and Mitch. They were so relatable and down to earth. For someone so young, Rosie has certainly been through so much and my heart went out to her. Mitch, equally, is dealing with difficulties in his past.

Living in Scotland, I loved the setting and could picture the area in my head. The author's writing was so descriptive.

The storyline was great, and as an addition, there is a secondary storyline about Rosie's grandmother. This was told from the past and present and was so moving. I loved the way the stories intertwined and the wonderful characters involved throughout.

This was a heartwarming read despite dealing with some heavy topics and I went through a myriad of emotions whilst reading it. It was filled with friendship, grief, hope and new found love and I flew through it. This is one I would highly recommend.

My first book by Julie Shackman & I already look forward to reading another of hers! A Scottish Lighthouse Escape was a sweet, cozy, light-hearted romance that closed with a feel-good happy ending. I enjoyed the descriptions of the Scottish coastal town (and really, ALL her vibrant descriptions throughout the food!), and liked the development of most of the characters. This novel was pretty different from a lot of the rom-coms I’ve been reading lately, but was super enjoyable and just a light hearted (zero spice) read.

The main character (a successful author) looses her husband in an accident, but then is doubly hit when she finds out he’d been cheating on her. Her world is rocked and so she heads to her grandparents cottage to reset and eventually finds new love & is able to move on.

Thanks to NetGalley & the publishers for the ARC!
