As Tilda begins to unravel the connection, she finds herself confronting the very crime that first set her on the path to her father’s murder.

However, his power has vanished just when they need it most. Hadrian is desperate to regain his gift to aid Tilda in her quest to discover the truth before it’s too late.

With powerful forces moving to keep the secrets of the past buried, Tilda must face a growing conspiracy with far-reaching roots. The closer she edges to the truth, the more dangerous her investigation becomes. And this time, the cost may be her own life.

Tilda’s life has just become more complicated!

Twists and turns await in the latest episode of this very readable Victorian mystery series.
The brutal murder of a former detective of the Metropolitan Police in the same manner as her father, albeit ten years ago, focuses Tilda’s attention once again on his demise. Particularly as Padgett had her father’s name on a slip of parchment in his pocket. Tilda’s investigative partner Hadrian Becket, Earl of Ravenwood, makes it his business to have her father’s car reopened.
Currently Tilda’s inquiring into the theft of some valuable silverware which includes a tureen and a salver. Both pieces feature intricate stags designs.
Shockingly, the mother who'd deserted Tilda and her grandmother and left them destitute has swanned back into their lives! What!
Then of course there’s Hadrian. Tilda is scared of her feelings for him, made even more fanciful with her mother’s blatant match making attempts.
As the two investigation’s puzzlingly appear to merge, Tilda and Hadrian are confronted by dead bodies, deliberate attempts to kill Tilda, corrupt officials, and the spectre of a dangerous figure behind everything.
Hadrian is alarmed by the loss of his gift at a crucial investigative moment.
Tilda and Hadrian’s relationship is growing but all is nowhere near settled, especially as Hadrian’s mother has definite ideas about the class divides, and Tilda’s is just being Tilda.
Be prepared for a long and winding road!

1868 Private Investigator Tilda Wren is employed to find the stolen items from Mrs Goodwin's household. That and the death of an ex-police inspector leads her to investigate her father's dead ten years previously. With the help of Ravenhurst and Detective Inspector Teague. But as more deaths occur are they themselves safe.
An entertaining and well-written historical mystery (with a touch of romance) with its cast of likeable and interesting characters. Another good addition to this enjoyable series.

I enjoyed the higher stakes in this installment with Tilda and Hadrian. Since the end of the last book I was worried about his “skill”. The slow burn in this series had felt positively, frustratingly glacial, but there’s finally real progress 5 books in.

These aren’t the deepest mysteries, but they’re not pure cozy either. This is best for readers who have a book or two under their belt. You’ll care about the mystery and characters more.

The next book is setup well and I’m here for it… and these two better get it together during their next investigation!

Picked up shortly after the events from the prior book and Tilda and Hadrian are back at it investigating again. This time there’s mega drama with a visit from her mother and some new twist in her father’s cold case. This series and these stories never quite go in the direction I was expecting and I love that about them! Absolutely brilliant series!.

The fifth outing for Hadrian & Tilda & another page turner. Tilda’s reputation as an investigator is gaining momentum, which please her as does Hadrian’s assistance. Then her world tilts on its axis when the case into her father’s murder is reopened. Things aren’t easy for Tilda as her mother has arrived for a visit, Hadrian has lost his powers & they just seem to be making headway when another body turns up. I found the book started slowly with Tilda & Hadrian investigating the case of stolen silver but then the pace ramps up & I found it very hard to put down, there are twists & turns plus surprises until the dramatic climax. There’s also the growing feelings between the couple & these too come to a head. A very well written unputdownable murder mystery with a slow burn romance.

Thanks to Booksprout for a copy of this ebook and this is my freely given opinion.

I am loving this Victorian mystery series and the development of the professional and personal relationship of the main characters. It is a super slow burn, but a rich development of their personalities and how they interact with each other, as Tilda Wren and Hadrian Becket navigate the varied aspects of their relationship with each other. As investigators, Tilda faces the limitations at the time because of her sex and social status, as well as the expectations of others (such as her mother) and Hadrian was a neophyte until his own involvement in crime, and has been steadily learning from his association with Wren and embracing his chosen role, as well as his new paranormal skills. The difference now, however, is that he was injured in their last investigation, and his power has been absent since. Hadrian is worried about whether his skill, initially despised, but found to eventually be very helpful in their work, will return or not. But during their work together this time, he is finding that as an investigator, he has learned much and has more to offer in their partnership than his ability to see the past through touch.

As Tilda finds more success in her private investigations, she is being hired more and in this story, has been hired to search for stolen goods. But she finds herself also investigating the past as circumstances in another crime reveal that the death of her father a decade earlier were not as reported, and eventually, as Hadrian and Tilda look into both, reveal perfidy and corruption in the Police that tainted the investigation into her father's death, and actually crosses over into their current investigation. And by delving into both, Tilda ends up becoming a target herself.

Personally, this is obviously difficult for Tilda, facing her father's death again, finding that she has been lied to and betrayed by some she considered herself close to, and questioning who she can trust, or who is betraying her. Her emotions are raw and brought to the surface, and this is further exacerbated by the presence of her mother, whom she is often at odds with, who takes every opportunity to interfer in Tilda's life, discouraging her professional pusuits, and pushing her agenda to marry Tilda off. Especially with a catch as huge as the Earl of Ravenhurst in her sphere. Exceptionally difficult for Tilda, since not only is she dealing with her past trauma about her father, she is also working through her own feelings and connection with Hadrian.

Hadrian is further along that emotional journey than Tilda is, and hopes for more. But he respects and values her enough not to force Tilda's hand. I love his character because he obviously cares about Tilda and acknowledges his love and desire for a future with her to himself, and later to her, but also respects her intellect, insights, and skill as an investigator enough to want to learn from her and to wish for her to continue that, and respects her desire for freedom enough to not force her into a relationship if she is not ready for it. He wants them to be true partners. I LOVE Hadrian!

I love this series, and this was a great addition to the series so far. Absolutely this must be read in order to the other 4 - to fully understand the nuances of their growing professional and personal relationship. I did enjoy the two investigations and how they intertwined, and the resolution of such an important and impactful part of Tilda's past. I enjoyed the family dynamics of Tilda, her mother, and grandmother, especially when there was that point of understanding and connection with her mother, after so much resentment and contention. And I especially love the growth between Hadrian and Tilda.... and I cannot wait to see where it goes, and what Hadrian will do about his mother, both in light of his developing personal relationship with Tilda, and his skills. Of course I also want to see how and if Tilda and Hadrian are challenged as they cautiously explore their growing personal relationship in the context of being partner investigators as well - and I look forward to some good old fashioned wooing!

Again, wonderful side characters as well, including the coachman, Leach, and his obvious fondness and respect for Tilda, and growing importance as an assistant in their endeavours.

I can't wait for the next book.

This fifth book in the Raven and Wren series was another enjoyable, clean installment of mystery, with a touch of paranormal with clues and threads to follow along that were very engaging. I enjoyed their simmering underlying chemistry that is continuously building with each story. I look forward to the next book. I highly recommend reading!

Private investigator Matilda Wren and Hadrian Becket, Earl of Ravenhurst, are once again drawn into a household theft investigation for a client. What begins as a routine case quickly spirals into something far more sinister when a retired police inspector is murdered. In his possession is a slip of paper bearing the name of Tilda’s late father. As Tilda delves deeper, she uncovers a tangled web that leads her back to the very crime that first set her on the path to uncovering her father’s murder.

Fans of the series will know that Hadrian Becket, after sustaining an injury, developed the ability to glimpse memories through touch—an extraordinary skill that has proven invaluable in assisting Tilda. However, his ability has mysteriously ceased to function, and Hadrian is determined to regain what he once considered a curse but now views as a crucial skill.

This story is brimming with intrigue: the arrival of Tilda’s meddling mother, powerful forces desperate to keep past secrets buried, conspiracies, layers of danger, unexpected twists, and chilling murders. The deepening connection between Hadrian and Tilda adds another compelling layer, with Hadrian recognizing his feelings first while Tilda slowly acknowledges that their friendship has blossomed into something more. Their evolving relationship adds both warmth and tension, pulling Tilda’s thoughts away from the investigation at times, making their dynamic even more captivating.

What truly sets this book apart for me—and makes it my absolute favorite in the series—is the masterful way Darcy Burke has woven together the intricate details. The seamless connection between the current robbery case and Tilda’s father’s murder from a decade ago is nothing short of brilliant. The level of thought, preparation, and narrative craftsmanship required to interlace these plot-lines is remarkable. I had no idea who was the villain behind Tilda’s father’s murder or how it connected to the stolen goods, which for me makes for a great murder mystery. The suspense and unpredictability kept me fully engaged, heightening the overall impact of the story.

Bravo, Darcy Burke. Your storytelling prowess shines in this installment, leaving me in awe of the meticulous detail and emotional depth you’ve crafted. I eagerly await the next book in this series, which has undeniably become a favorite of mine.

A Whisper of Secrecy by Darcy Burke
Raven & Wren #5

~ Excellent addition to this series with crimes to solve for Hadrian and Tilda as they help and support one another, find their emotions growing for one another, and contemplate courting in spite of the social divide between them ~

What I liked:
* Miss Matilda “Tilda” Wren: mid-twenties, lives with her grandmother, father was a detective murdered while working and taught her his skills, caring, responsible, frugal, inquisitive, bright, capable, attracted to Hadrian, finds her feelings growing as she spends more time with Hadrian
* Hadrian Becket, Earl of Ravenhurst: early-thirties, wealthy, paranormal psychometry ability post near-death experience disappeared at the end of last book – worried it might not return, assists Tilda in some of her investigations, sees Tilda as a worthy life partner/wife
* Watching the developing relationship between Hadrian & Tilda
* The plot that begins with solving a theft and grows into one dealing with other crimes and murder…and might solve her father’s murder
* Following the clues with Tilda & Hadrian as they worked to solve the case
* Catching up with supporting characters that are family, employed by family, and policemen
* The surprise visit of Tilda’s mother and watching the dynamics between Tilda, her mother and grandmother
* That the writing felt “of the period” as did the characters dialogue and behavior
* The decision that Tilda and Hadrian have made regarding their relationship – wonder how it will work out
* That the end left no strings untied on their case while offering a clue to what the next case will be

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about how evil more than one of the characters were, the ease with which they committed heinous crimes, and how greedy they were
* Thinking about how difficult the lives of widow Lowther and her children will be after her husband was murdered
* Having to wait for the next book

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

“A Whisper of Secrecy” is book five in Darcy Burke’s successful Raven and Wren series. This is a great addition to the series. Tilda’s investigative prowess is spreading and those seeking out her services continues to grow.
I have liked this character from the beginning, her powers of observation are keen, her sense of independence in a man’s world doesn’t waver. She provides for her household which includes her grandmother. In this story, her mother comes for a visit, the reader gets to experience this fraught relationship to further understand Tilda’s character. Tilda is also experiencing emotional fallout from her policeman father’s death ten years prior. Clues come to light that her father’s death was not what really happened. The past comes crashing into the present. I have also liked Hadrian, he’s respectful, he’s a gentleman, he’s fully supportive of Tilda, he’s protective of those in his circle. We have seen Hadrian’s struggle with his ability to see memories in prior books, and now (not a spoiler, he lost his ability at the end of book four) we see him struggle with the loss of his ability and his emotional battle to get it back. In each book, including this one, the relationship between Hadrian and Tilda continues to evolve and grow, their inner dialogues about the changes are delightful to read. Since this is the story about a private investigator and her partner the subject matter isn’t all ballrooms and flowers, courting and secret kisses in the garden (although Tilda’s mother would like it that way!). There is thievery, murder, mayhem, twists and turns to keep the reader on their toes as Hadrian and Tilda are always in the thick of the action. Overall, this is a great story, the pacing is on point, the flow from scene to scene is smooth, the characters, both main and secondary are top notch and well thought out. Everything works to create a thrilling page turner. Recommended.

A truly amazing story! I have read all the books in this series, and this one is my favorite. Those who read this series know that Hadrian was injured in the last book and lost his ability to see visions of things and people he touched. Matilda/Tilda to most has taken a case of stolen silver and items from a wealthy lady. While working on this case they find out that a police officer who knew her father was killed and had his name on him. Tilda has never understood her father's death and where it happens and why. Hadrian is worried that his loss of insight will stop Tilda from needing his help. He has been thru many emotions while dealing with his new gift or curse. Now he needs it back so he can help her and continue being around her. His feelings are off the charts on how he feels about her. He doesn’t know how she feels about him and is afraid to say anything. The class different is a problem also. The arrival of her mother causes her additional anxiety and problems. She has never gotten along with her as all she thinks about is society and what they think. When clues start adding along with bodies, both Tilda and Hadrian are in danger from those who want secrets to stay buried. Both will have to work hard to solve both cases and address their feelings too. Wow, what a great writer Darcy is to bring all the clues, people and villains to a wonderful, if surprising ending. I figured out most of the time who the villain was before the middle of the book, but not this time for sure. If you haven’t read the first books you need to as each book has clues and the growing attraction between our couple. It will make books more enjoyable. I can’t wait for the next one even if I suspect it might be the last. Which is sad. I received an ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and I am freely giving it.

Twists, turns, murder, intrigue, and danger await in the latest edition within this murder mystery series

Things really get interesting in this story

Wren is hired to investigate a routine home theft and all seems pretty common until a police inspector is found murdered. Things become even more complicated when the slip of paper found clutched in his hand has Wren's fathers name on it. He was murdered yrs ago.

This has become personal for Wren and she might find answers to her fathers murder.
As she delves deeper and deeper she is connecting the cases to each other, finding there has been corruption involved , and as she continues to pursue the connections, her life is endangered.

Not only is her life at risk but her heart as well. Her feelings for Hadrien are increasing and it is becoming a concern for her... Her mothers sudden appearance and matchmaking isn't making it any easier for her to shut out her feelings.

Hadrien has been at Wren's side from the beginning and has always been able to assist her with his special powers to "see" memories through touch
He is very concerned and frustrated because of all times for it to happen, he has lost his power. Not only can he not help Wren as he normally does in their investigations but this time he needs his power to help her - her life is at risk and time is of the essence.

This story has progressed wonderfully. I love the writing, the mystery plots have been intriguing, and the slow burn romance between Hadrien and Wren has added just the right touch to these stories.
I have enjoyed the progression of their romance but I am really hoping to see them both fall hard and come together in the next edition

Thank you to the author for the ARC. All opinions expressed are my own

A Whisper of Secrecy is the fifth novel in Darcy Burke’s Raven & Wren series of Victorian mysteries with an extremely slow-burn romance and just a hint of the paranormal. This book could be enjoyed on its own, but the series is best enjoyed in order.

At the start of this story, private investigator Matilda Wren is hired to find her client’s stolen silver pieces. She is also attempting to unofficially investigate the murder of a retired police inspector who was found with a piece of paper bearing Tilda’s father’s name and the date of his murder. Hadrian Becket, Earl of Ravenhurst, is eager to assist Tilda with both investigations, except his ability to see visions of the past isn’t working.

The story is told from Tilda and Hadrian’s dual points of view. They are both good people, generous, smart, resourceful, and brave. I love seeing them work together to solve the mysteries, as well as watching Tilda and Hadrian’s relationship continue to evolve. We also get to meet Tilda’s mother.

If you’ve read any of the previous books in the series, you won’t be surprised to learn that there’s danger, a growing body count, and surprising connections between these cases. This is a fast-paced and suspenseful read involving multiple interconnected crimes and mysteries. I look forward to reading the next Raven & Wren mystery, and I recommend the series to fans of historical mysteries.

Note that this book includes mild swearing, assaults, and murders, although nothing too graphic.

I received an ARC of this book from the author via BookFunnel and volunteered to provide an honest review.

We have Matilda Wren Aka Tilda who is developing a good reputation for solving difficult cases.
She has been asked to assist with the case of a corrupt police officer who held a note with her father’s name and date of his passing! The police officer was unalived in somewhat strange circumstances! Along with Hadrian Becket, Earl of Ravenhurst, her official partner this case will close several doors but open one I have long waited for!
As the victims pile up so do the clues. Hadrian has lost his gift and is not sure if will come back or how to get it to reappear!
The clues all keep coming back to the victims but also tie in with Tilda’s current case of stolen items!
It is getting more and more complicated and dangerous!
Tilda is slowly coming to realize how much Hadrian means to her but not on the midst of understanding what happened to her father and why!
Could it be more than a decade later she will finally have some peace!? We have more corrupt behavior exposed not only by policeman but a Lord of the realm!?
Hadrian has been exposed to danger on every case but this one hits different! Can they finally admit what they mean to each other? Must it come on the heels of another life and death experience?
Can Tilda let go her fear and be the woman that Hadrian needs? She has just solved one of the most baffling cases of over a decade ago!
But no rest for the weary she hasn’t had time to heal from her injury or process how much her life has changed!!!
Bravo well done!

In this next instalment of the Raven and Wren series, we finally have answers to why Matilda Wren’s father was killed in the line of duty some ten years ago. A Whisper of Secrecy starts with Tilda being hired by Mrs Goodwin to locate some missing items that were stolen from her home – several with a stag emblem on them. Tilda commences her usual investigation only to learn early in the story that an ex-police inspector is killed in the line of duty while clutching a scrap of paper bearing Tilda’s father’s name! She, together with Hadrian follow the clues to determine where this will lead. Once they realise that things are amiss regarding the investigation into her father’s death, they escalate their request to the Home Secretary and he in turn assigns Detective Inspector Teague to lead the investigation.

Of course, added to this complication is Tilda’s mother comes for a visit and stays with Tilda and her grandmother, so the household is slightly more crowded. Things reach a head when Tilda is kidnapped just outside her home and it is up to Hadrian, Teague, and Leach to try to reach / find her before she is killed. Of course, Tilda does not sit idly by but continues to “work the case” and get some much-needed clarification right from the murderer’s / mastermind’s mouth!

A fantastic addition to an already exciting series. I cannot wait for the next instalment. I received an advanced readers copy and submit my honest review voluntarily.

Tilda's simple case of theft turns deadly in this gripping murder mystery.

As the story got underway, there were a few different intriguing things happening that had my full attention. Hadrian and Tilda got pulled deeper into a sinister conspiracy that kept throwing dead bodies their way. Investigating her father's murder, and dealing with her mother, made Tilda rethink a lot of her own set-in-stone opinions. Hadrian was getting better at focusing his ability, after a minor hiccup.

Tilda and Hadrian adopted a very "make it look like you belong there" attitude that was awesome and amusing. I loved their mutual enthusiasm for their work and how they presented themselves as a unit. There was no question that they were working together, even though people frowned at Hadrian's involvement (him being an earl and all that). Their growing attraction added an extra exciting element for me and I silently squealed a few times.

These two make a crack detective team and I hope to see more of them. I can highly recommend this series if you like a super slow burn historical romance with some paranormal elements.

Thank you to the publisher and Booksprout for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Another fabulous Raven and Wren collaboration!

This time their investigation was more personal then ever, as the long-accepted story of how Tilda's father died ten years ago was suddenly brought into question. Tilda begins to question her relationships with people she thought she could trust, as even the veracity of the police themselves--many of them her father's own coworkers!--comes into question.

Hadrian is struggling with the possibly loss of his ability (can he still help Tilda in her investigations without it?) and his growing feelings for Tilda--and the fact that her (mostly) estranged mother is in town and eager to make a match between them doesn't actually help much on that front.

Will Hadrian regain his ability? Will they uncover the secrets behind Tilda's father's death? And maybe most the most important question for those of us who came over from Ms Burke's historical romance side--will Hadrian and Tilda finally admit their feelings for each other and do something about it already??? ;)

As always, this installment in the Raven and Wren series *could* be read as a standalone, but the many personal and emotional threads woven throughout the story will have a greater impact on readers who have been with these characters since the beginning.

Old Mysteries And New Feelings

Raven and Wren's newest adventure is once again a fast-paced, thrilling sleuth mystery mixed with a slow-burning romance, filled with action, suspense, betrayal, corruption, and danger. This is the most personal and painful case yet for the likable heroine and her caring and honorable partner, who can no longer deny their feelings for each other.

Tilda Wren's new case involves finding stolen silver objects for a client. Hadrian "Raven" Becket, Earl of Ravenhurst, is struggling with the fact that he has not yet regained his supernatural ability after his injury.
When a former corrupt police officer is murdered and a note with the name and date of death of Tilda's father is discovered in his pocket, she also begins investigating her father's murder and soon realizes that her new case and the murder are somehow connected and that some officials may be involved...

If you like compelling Victorian sleuth mysteries with lots of action and surprising twists, appealing protagonists, a touch of the supernatural, and a blossoming romance, you're sure to enjoy this book. I recommend reading the series in order.

Like the serials of old, this book continues immediately after the last left off. Hadrian has lost his ability to see the history of things that he touches. He thought it was a curse, until he realized that it was a way to help Tilda, the woman he loves. He just recently realized that he does love her, but she has no interest in marrying unless it is a love match. She adored her father, who was murdered, and has followed in his path by being an investigator. She never had a great relationship with her mother, especially after she remarried, but now her mother has come to visit- to push Tilda into putting an end to investigative work and get married. After working with Hadrian, she has had a few euphonies, one that marriage to Hadrian would not be so bad. But these feeling must be put on the back burner to simmer, while they have a new case, stolen silver. But then their investigation brings them to the conclusion that everything she was told about her father's murder were lies. A page turner with wonderful characters, lots of twists and turns and ending with another cliffhanger. I love this series.

4.5 STARS - ROUNDED UP

One of my favorites of the series. So many murders and villains that your head will roll. What I enjoyed about this story was the H's "gift." He used to think of it as a curse but that changed when he lost it. This author wrote this story in such a way, very descriptive as to his visions, that I felt I was having the vision. I could picture everything the H experienced and that's definitely a gift this author has.

Finally, the two have realized their feelings and expressed them. I've mentioned before this was a very slow burn, almost at times nonexistent, so I'm please things are progressing. A small part of the story dragged for me but certainly made up for the suspense in the last half of the book.

So many twists of whodunit that I truly didn't know who was pulling the strings. Violence, suspense, intrigue, many murders, and characters written with depth, both main and secondary.

No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, some romance and only a few kisses and a great setup for the next story. It could be a standalone, but you'd miss on a lot of how they came to work together and his gift. I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you extra tidbits to decide whether to purchase.

I received ARC and all opinions are my own and freely given. (ljb)

Darcy Burke’s A Whisper of Secrecy proves once more that Matilda Wren and Hadrian Becket are the Victorian-era duo we didn’t know we needed but now can’t live without. What starts as a simple, theft spirals into murder, conspiracies, and a chilling tie to Tilda’s father’s murder a decade ago. Cue meddling mothers, shadowy villains, and Hadrian’s frustratingly vanished psychic gift, because of course nothing can be easy.

The mystery is sharp, the twists deliciously unpredictable, and the romance. Watching Hadrian realize his feelings while Tilda tries (and fails) to keep hers under wraps adds just the right amount of swoon to balance the suspense. Burke seamlessly braids past and present crimes into a story that’s equal parts clever, tense, and heart-tugging.

If you love your historical mysteries with twists & turns, danger at every corner, and a slow-burn romance that makes you grin like a fool, this installment will keep you hooked until the final reveal. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Gripping Victorian Mystery with a Dash of Romance and a Touch of the Paranormal
Tilda’s father died a decade ago, and his murder remains unsolved. Now a dead detective is found with her father’s name in his pocket, pulling Tilda into a dangerous new investigation. There are powerful people who want to keep the past hidden, and they seem willing to do anything to protect their secrets. How many people will die before the truth is finally revealed?
Hadrian has been helping Tilda by touching objects and glimpsing memories through them. But just as an injury gave him this ability, another has taken it away. Will he regain his gift in time to help Tilda?
Twisted secrets and escalating danger made this an enthralling read, with a subtle thread of romance woven throughout. Will Hadrian and Tilda finally acknowledge the feelings growing between them? I really enjoyed this Victorian mystery and am very much looking forward to what comes next in the series. Highly recommended for fans of historical mysteries with a touch of the unexplained.

A Whisper of Secrecy is another great installment by Darcy Burke! In this story you have Tilda Wren investigating the theft of some silver but through a series of incidents and accidents like the death of a police officer, she discovers that her simple theft is tied to a murder. When a police officer named Padgett is found dead with the name of Tilda's father and and the date of his death on a note in his hand, she starts to investigate. Hadrian has lost his power so he must help her the be way he can, by being there. Hadrian and Tilda grow very close as the situation gets more and more dangerous. This book has so much going on, yet it all seamlessly works together. It is such a good book that you don't want to put it down. Darcy Burke has outdone herself with this book. I can't recommend it enough!.

Romance and Intrigue

Tilda and Ravenhurst embark on a seemingly trivial investigation regarding thefts, but certain events and subsequent murders lead the two toward the cold case of Tilda’s father’s murder. Initially rendered impotent by the loss of his “gift”, Ravenhurst seeks the counsel of two men who also have this ability to access a person’s memories through the mere touch of objects. Once he regains his ability, Ravenhurst becomes instrumental in helping solve the mystery.

An added interest in the novel is a visit from Tilda’s mother from whom she is estranged. Things are not what they seem and her visit prompts the spark needed to help Tilda feel romantically inclined towards Ravenhurst…much to his delight. This story is full of betrayals, surprises, tragedies, poignant moments and small delights. It’s a wonderful compilation and my favorite of this series so far.

This is one of my favorite series. It has mystery, romance, and is set in 1800’s England.

The death of Tilda’s police father a decade ago has greatly affected her. It has spurred her to become a private investigator. Her first case brought her into contact with Lord Hadrian Ravenhurst.

They have built a successful investigative partnership. This time, it be once very personal for Tilda - her case connects to her father’s death.

Hadrian and Tilda have os many clues to follow but do so with their regular skill, including Hadrian’s skill of visions. The ending is satisfactory not only for their cast but also personally for Tilda and her family.

In this book, there is also a furthering of their personal relationship. The end is great and sets up the next book, which I can’t wait to read!

Tilda finally gets answers she has waited for for10 years …and for an answer she didn’t know she wanted. Hadrian gets some needed help for the answers he seeks as well. I adored his protective nature and absolute NEED to tell Tilda how he feels. Watching Tilda deal with her mother, a case she is investigating and the opportunity to finally unmask her father’s killer was an exercise in emotion control. Her growth in the process was so heartwrenching , yet so satisfying when she finally realizes just what she is really running from. The twists and turns of the case will make your head spin and the climax was frightening! There is the set up for the next case that is interesting as well. An exceptional read with their relationship beginning to expand and excitement you won’t want to miss.

Another wild ride for Tilda and Hadrian when a seemingly conventional investigation turns into a dangerous race to unmask a killer. Tilda takes on a stolen item investigation, but as the inquiry progresses, it seems to have ties to the past and the murder of Sgt. Thomas Wren. Filled with secrets, danger, and haunting memories, this is an emotional roller-coaster for both Tilda and Hadrian. Can Tilda continue the investigation despite the emotional toll it is taking on her? And what is going on with Hadrian’s psychic ability? A page-turning mystery with twists and turns and a touch of romance. Good addition to the series which is best read in order for full enjoyment and understanding of the characters.

In this newest mystery of A Whisper of Secrecy in the amazing series written by Darcy Burke, we again find Hadrian Becket, the Earl of Ravenhurst, and Matilda Wren, embroiled in an investigation involving theft. Hadrian seems to have lost his ability to have visions and though he didn't care for his skill before, now he actually misses it in aiding Tilda in her investigations. Tilda, on the other hand, believes in Hadrian and that his ability will return. Her newest case has brought back the death of her father and the similarity in their cases had ignited her desire to learn more about his death. This story is so interesting, full of mystery and intrigue, but especially a recognition of Hadrian and Tilda's romantic feelings for each other. A definite must read.

3.5 rounded down. Another solid installment to a decent series. Her disdain of marriage continues to baffle me. I can appreciate wanting to work and not wanting to necessarily be a countess…but to be so fully anti marriage in a time period where eschewing such would be so disastrous to your long term future? Still, that is an old complaint. The rounding down in this one was a lot more to do with the FMC’s pretty disdainful and even unkind treatment of her mother. She isn’t a great character, it is true. She has a lot of issues. But Tilda’s dismissal reflects equally poorly on her as a protagonist, particularly when previous slights all took place well before her mother is introduced as a character. TIlda dislikes her before the book even begins. I did like the story in this one and felt like it moved along a little better than the previous installment with a more manageable cast list.

I love the mysteries in this series. I think they are complicated and interesting. I like the magic part is enough without being overly complicated. I think, that this would work better if you read a few of the books as the relationships have been developed over the past books.

I don't care for the romance, I prefer when the people are sure they like/love and want to be with the other person (especially after the events in this book). Its hard for me to ship them together.

But the reason I this is 4 stars not 5 is the TSTL moment, I know it was kind of called out on page but I was still side eyeing that part.
