Fraternizing Omegas #2

Begrudgingly Yours

Rate this book
I don’t date alphas.

Growing up with an abusive one was bad enough. Now, I plan to live the rest of my life without them, regardless of what my omega wants.

It’s my junior year and things are changing rapidly. I have a new roommate, my best friend is recently bonded, and I am determined to excel in my new theater class. The last thing I need is to be distracted by the alphas that are unexpectedly taking over my life.

Dax and Everett, best friends who gave me the best night of my life.
And Jett, my scene partner and the bane of my existence.

Acting is all I’ve ever wanted and now my skillset is being put to the test. Pretending to not care for these men is becoming harder than upholding the promise I made to myself.

But I soon find out that fate has plans for me… and going off script isn’t an option.

FRATERNIZING OMEGAS is an interconnected standalone series of sweet why choose omegaverse romances that include frat boy MMCs and wallflower FMCs. No OW drama, no third act break-ups, and no bullying between love interests. There are sensitive topics discussed, so please check TWs before reading.

Genre: Adult Omegaverse Romance
Spice: 2.5/5🌶️
*spice ratings are relative to similar books in the same genre*

The Catalog: MFMM omegaverse, secret scent-match, rival thespians to lovers, one night stand to more, hockey player alphas, forced proximity (the leads in a play), secret scent-matches, found family, build-a-pack, rut & heat tending, making alphas beg

Kink: impact play (spanking)

CWs: emotional abuse by a parent (on page and historical), bullying / toxic learning environment, mental health representation (psychosis after discontinuing meds)

Synopsis: Rory learned from a young age that alphas cannot be trusted, and thus far, she’s done an amazing job of avoiding them altogether. But then in a single moment of weakness, she allows two alpha hockey players to take her home for her best night of her life. After, she swears off all alphas again until she lands the leading role in her class production of Romeo and Juliet, alongside her rival. It seems no matter what she does, these three alphas are determined to shake her foundation.

Thoughts:

I am so excited to be back at Benson U, in the Fraternizing Omegas universe! Rory was a standout character from book one so I was so happy to get her story!

First, I’d like to mention how much I enjoyed the Omegaverse interpretation of Romeo and Juliet, and how the author used the play, and the setting of rehearsal, to tell Rory’s own story. There were some really incredible scenes designed to be amplified by the play, and I loved that.

As for the characters, Rory has been terribly let down by the alphas in her life — namely her abusive mother. Her walls are impenetrable when it comes to alphas, yet her three alphas are made perfect to bring those walls straight down. There’s Everett, the steadfast goalie with a calming energy, Dax, the golden retriever defenseman, and Jett, Rory’s dark, broody, thespian rival. Their pack dynamic was very enjoyable.

In terms of romance, you can expect a rollercoaster of sexy ups and angsty curves as these characters navigate the road to their HEA. And of course, there are all the cozy, slick, and sexy omegaverse funsies too.

"𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬. 𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐬𝐨 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐰𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐤 𝐛𝐲 𝐡𝐞𝐫."

Layney Jones accurately described this as idiots to lovers x3, lolol. this book starts off hot with the prologue of the one night stand between Rory and Everett & Dax. and then after is a good amount of time wanting them to all figure their shit out and realize what they are to each other 😆

this book had such a strong found family trope. Everett & Dax do have supportive families and good relationships with their parents, but that doesn’t mean they can’t create their own strong family with their own pack. each perfect for each other. and Everett made such a good prime, esp for Rory. the girls also made a great trio and girl gang, and i loved seeing such strong female friendships.

the spice is hot when it happens but doesn’t overwhelm the plot and relationship building and tension between all of them. and it allows for courting and the alphas to be respectful of the boundaries Rory places.

overall i really enjoyed this and this take on OV the author created.

this is an interconnected standalone, but i would highly recommend reading 𝑷𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒍𝒚 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔 as Stacia and her pack show up a lot in the book. i also can’t wait to read Opal’s book.

thank you Layney Jones for an e-ARC of 𝑩𝒆𝒈𝒓𝒖𝒅𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒚 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔 🍒🎭🏒

This was definitely not a book I usually read, but it's super sweet and cute, and a lot of trust issues. Rory just resents her designation because of how she was raised. She just wishes she were a beta, but then after a night with two alphas and a night of HOT, DELICIOUS, MINDBLOWING group activities. That may not have changed her mind, but they be living on mind rent free.

The Alphas we have or the 3 hot & cute idiots:

Dax - the good-looking looking charming, blond golden retriever who is besties with
Everett - the stoic, mature, grounded guy in the group, but emotionally not really that smart :D
Jett - her artistic, one sided- rival.

This is a very interesting group. And a group that is trying to find not only a way to the girl of their dreams, but to form a pack so its also a story of cute bromantic friendship and a very guarded omega, who slowly realizes that not alphas are the same. You would totally need patience with these characters tho, they do have their own flaws due to their experience. Especially Rory, cause her mother mistreated her in the most ickiest way, and her dad too.

This book is more of a swoony and sweet book with a touch of angst and I enjoyed it. I didn't know the other characters, but it didn't really feel like they were strangers and the next pack would be very interesting since i feel like it would be more angstier!

Its giving a type of romance movies that you see in the late 2000s in college, but thats the beauty of it! Like 10 things I hate about you, but not the same story just the vibe between characters. If this is something you like, then definitely a must read!

5 ⭐️ + lots of tears

wow… honestly that is all i can say after reading this! wow! layney had a great debut in patiently, but in begrudgingly she really found her stride. the characters had such strong emotions and when reading i felt like i was feeling the same things. layney has such a way with words.

i spent about 90% of this book kicking my feet, blushing, and giggling. the alphas in this book were so romantic and so obsessed with rory.

rory is a firecracker! and honestly her alphas balance that very well. everett with his calming presence and silent leadership, dax with his own wildness that comes to play with rorys, and jett who loves to let rory shine 🥹 i love them all so much! in the beginning i was definitely a jett girlie, but now i’m wishing i was rory and could have them all.

this story did not feel as heavy as patiently, but still had deeper traumas for the main characters to work through. honestly, rory was very in tune with knowing her trauma and actively working towards helping herself be the best person she could be. i wish there was a bit more mention of her therapy group as we progressed, maybe even with one of her alphas joining to better understand her.

ALSO IM SO EXCITED FOR THE NEXT BOOK!!! two omegas? a male omega?? MY SWEET BABY OPAL? SIGN ME TF UP!!!

I was so excited to read Rory’s story. in patiently yours Rory was fierce, strong and very protective. I was so curious to learn her backstory as we dont get any hints of it except that she went through something rough. I had a feeling the story would start off with avoidance because she seemed like the type of fmc to shy away from commitment and the way the alphas go at her pace and never pressure her just made me applaud. again metal health and healing is a huge part of the storyline and how it is an ongoing battle. the fact that the men are in touch with their feelings and dont shy away from the hard things is so attractive to me. the epilogue again has a cute nod to the next omega and I cannot wait to dive into opals story. my nerdy little heart is so excited

I love when omegaverse books have a pack bond that snaps into place when they meet. I love that aspect. This was such a good book! I adored the characters, I loved how much the previous characters were in this book. Found family, community style, is my absolute favourite! I highly recommend!! I enjoyed every part of this book!!

To say I’m slightly obsessed with this book would be an understatement. This one hit me right in the feels, I was smiling, laughing, kicking my feet, crying my eyes out, I was feeling everything!
Rory, Dax, Everett, and Jett’s relationship and pack built so authentically it was so much fun to see them finally come together! I love the girls’ friendship in this book - they make the best girl gang!!

I was so sad when this book ended and now I cannot wait for Opal’s story!

Hellooooooo hockey OV 🤩

I’ll be 💯honest, I went into this one almost completely blind simply because @so.theres.this.book recommended it lmaoooooo. And Ash is never wrong so a huge thank you to @authorlayneyjones for the ARC and to Ash for recommending this one! You guys didn’t let me down!

First things first, this is the second book in a series of interconnected standalones. Do you need to read the first book before this one? Not necessarily. Should you? Absolutely!

What I loved about this book is that it breaks the mold of OV romances and pack life a bit. At the beginning of the book there is a section that explains how this OV differs from others and I love how unique this world is. Alphas can recognize each other as pack, but not necessarily all of them are scent matches with their pack’s omega. Heats don’t start until after bonding, which means that there is no surprise heat pushing the plot along, the characters are allowed to build their relationships with each other a little more naturally and on their own terms.

Rory has been cast as Juliet in her drama class’s production of Romeo and Juliet and Jett has been cast as Romeo. Their relationship has to be my favorite storyline in this because the way their romance develops is so freaking sweet. As their rehearsals progress, so does their relationship AND NOT ONLY THAT but Jett has a secret that literally changes everything.

I also love that the Alphas (Jett, Dax, and Everett) form friendships all on their own. They’re brought together NOT because of their Omega, but in their own natural storyline and they only recognize themselves as pack once all three of them are together in the same place at the same time. SO FREAKING UNIQUE.

Let me start this review off by saying I adored Jett. He messed up but so did Rory (my heart ached so badly for Jett after THAT scene) and both were such understandable trauma responses that were handled exceptionally well. I love that Rory had such independence and that her alphas gave her so much control and choice after they learned everything with her mother. I love how quietly protective Everett is and how he stood up for Rory before she ever acknowledged she was his. This was angsty in the best way and I will admit to being frustrated as heck by the time page 200 rolled around and Rory was still dragging her feet. I did have to remind myself that it made sense for her character with her trauma and just like with patiently yours, the difficult topics were handled with care and spun professional help in a positive light. All in all a great read with enough push and pull that the relationships were allowed to grow within the constraints of Rory and Jett’s parental trauma. I was not expecting Nicole’s arc and was pleasantly surprised by the final confrontation. I do think there could have been more exploration of the topic of discrimination from the teacher, especially when the play was a MAJOR plot point in the book and Jett’s protectiveness during rehearsal helped move their relationship along. All in all a very enjoyable read that I finished in one sitting. I’m so looking forward to Opals story, I love double omega stories and I’m very curious about her journey, especially with her slip at the end with her “blockers”

I received this book as an ARC but all opinions are my own

Begrudgingly Yours - Layney Jones
5♾️/5

* SPOILERS *

I discovered Layney when I read her debut novel Patiently Yours but I never expected that this freaking book would be so much better. So far, I have not been disappointed, and I really wanted more even when I devoured this book in a little over a day.

I love an omegaverse when the pack isn’t together and how they form a pack from meeting one another. I love that Everett and Dax were best friends and didn’t feel like their pack was complete until they met Jett.

Jett is my absolute favorite alpha in the whole pack. I felt for him so much, especially in the reason he hid his scent from Rory.

I laughed so hard when Stacia’s pack showed up as the Scooby Doo gang and the one that had to be Scooby was simply priceless. I was laughing uncontrollably because it was simply the best part in that scene.

Chapter 35 was my favorite when Everett stood up to a certain someone when they weren’t treating his Rory right and it was perfect.

I’m not sure if I like Nicole or not but I will say I was happy when Nicole protected Rory from her evil mother.

I need Opal’s story so much, especially all the teasers we got just by her being around her pack when they don’t even realize it. It’s gonna be so good!

What really took the cake was the end when Rory got the letter from her father. It was so sweet and I was so emotional in the best way.

I also loved that we got the cameos from the first book. I loved this found family and how everyone is just there for everyone. Also, I loved how the advice that Rory gave Opal in the book that she took her own advice. Perfect book!

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.

Begrudgingly Yours is the second book in Layney Jones’ Fraternizing Omegas series, and she’s put a distinctive spin on this omegaverse. Her world building is refreshingly different. In this world, packs may feel deeply that they will be pack but don’t know until everyone in the pack meets and suddenly - click! - they’ve clicked into their pack. Scent blockers are cheap, fool-proof, and let characters hide their scents as long as they want. Heats and ruts only show up after a pack has fully formed. I was curious how those tweaks would land in one of my favorite genres, and honestly, they fit seamlessly into this new-adult-college setting.

Fiery, independent Rory is our FMC, an acting major who has no interest in bonding with alphas. One of our MMCs, Jett, her classmate that lives to rile her up, keeps a life-altering secret from her. Then there’s Everett, the quietly steady hockey goalie, and his best friend Dax, the big-hearted frat-boy teammate who lights up every room who’ve always known they’d be pack one day. One night, there paths cross with Rory’s during an epic one-night stand that changes everything. Rory panics, determined to keep her distance, while the guys can’t get her out of their heads. While she does her best to avoid Everett and Dax, Jett, unfortunately, has been cast as the Romeo to her Juliet in acting class.

Watching their relationship unfold was addictive. The “click!” moment between the guys becoming pack was powerful and genuinely fun - especially Dax’s reaction! That said, Rory tested my patience; I wanted to shake her a few times for dragging her feet when it was clear what (and who) she was meant for. Still, the slow build made the payoff satisfying, and the supporting cast added plenty of charm. Now I’m excited to go back for book one and can’t wait to see where Jones takes the series next. Thank you Laney for the chance to read one of your first books. I’m a lucky lady!

Well, well, well… I came for the theater drama and stayed for the alpha-sized chaos. This book had me grinning, swooning, and rolling my eyes (in the best way) at the tangled mess of promises, chemistry, and stage-worthy angst.

The heroine? Fierce, funny, and absolutely determined not to let a single alpha steal her spotlight or her heart. I loved her stubborn streak, even when it made me want to shake her. Watching her juggle new friendships, her passion for acting, and three very distracting alphas? Yeah, that’s the kind of tension I signed up for.

Dax and Everett? Swoon. Jett? Infuriating… until suddenly he’s not. The push-pull with all of them kept the pages flying. And the theater backdrop added such a fun, fresh layer it wasn’t just about romance, but also about ambition, identity, and figuring out how much of yourself you’re willing to risk when fate rewrites the script.

Sometimes the “I don’t date alphas” mantra got repeated a bit too much, and I was ready to shout “girl, we KNOW!” Still, the banter, the sparks, and the stage lights made it more than worth the read.

Begrudgingly Yours By Layney Jones ARC Review

Everett, was insecure at the start I was glad his character evolved I loved the way he acted a the kindness he had given Rory and taken it upon himself to be loved by her. I liked his character because his adoring and sweet personality and the way he treated her with respect and knew the emotions how to fall in love with her.

I thought Dax was a gentle lover and the moments he had with that connected Rory with her was delicious the spice was just perfect and sweet I loved the way they connected in the relationship they had between each other.

Rory, was adored by her pack and I loved that about her and the way she had the pack behind her low self esteem and helped her repair herself in to more different ways possible that’s why I have this book 5 stars.

Jett, made this relationship so much better I loved reading about his character developed and how he made a good impression in the start I loved his character and how he was written because he was trying his hardest to try bring up to people’s standard.

This is the second addition to the Fraternizing Omegas series. If you are familiar with the first book then our FMC Rory will be familiar. However DON’T worry if you haven’t read the first one, it will not take away from this story.
This story has all of the scent matching goodness mixed with some realistic personal and relationship struggles. Rory’s men definitely take the time to know her and respect her boundaries while still “showing up.” Rory has a difficult past that makes her current situation hard to navigate however we get to watch her grow and learn towards her HEA.
There is drama (two of them are actors of course) but the angst isn’t relationship ending. While it isn’t the traditional cozy, it is comfortable enough that you know it will work out even through the angsty bits.
I definitely recommend this to all varieties of omegaverse lovers. It is unique while still including all the things we love!

Thanks Layney Jones for the ARC of this story!

I was also blessed to receive and ARC copy of Patiently Yours earlier this year and as soon as ARC sign-ups opened for this book, I applied. First of all, between book one and book two, I saw definite growth in Layney's writing/storytelling, and its so cool to watch an author actively improve and get to watch them blossom.

I hade such a delightful time reading this book! I saw depth and established personality in all of the characters, I appreciated the significance placed on the formation of the pack and the individual friendships of the men in the pack, and the lack of third act break-up and active trust between pack members was also an incredibly nice change of pace. While this book is much lighter than book one in the series, it still handled its fair share of heaviness and again, does so with grace.

I can't wait to read more from Layney in the future!

what’s an omega to do when she doesn’t want a pack, doesn’t want any alpha at all, but finds her scent match in her acting rival, and their pack in her one night stands?
make them work for it obviously!
this book was such an emotional read for me, and I loved every second of it.
the mental and emotional journey that Rory goes through in this book gave me all of the feels. I just wanted her to find peace and happiness!!
luckily she has an incredible support system in her friends, and her soon-to-be pack mates, whether she wants the support or not.

Wonderful read

Life does funny things when you least expect it. Rory learns that first hand. This book is the second in a series but they’re standalone series so you don’t have read the first if you don’t want to. I didn’t but I definitely plan on downloading and reading it when I have time because I just can get enough of all of these characters. The friendships between the guys and the bonds between the girls. It’s just so refreshing to see. I really liked that even though it wasn’t a smooth journey for Rory and the guys, it gave them the room to grow and develop. Secrets come out, friendships are tested, rivalries questioned, but it all works. I enjoyed this and definitely plan on checking more from this series, including what comes next minute future

3 hockey hottest? Thanks. I'll take them all.

Layney really perfects the delicate balance of sweetness, angst, and spice without the angst overpowering the sweetness.

Rory was fun to read, and not just because we have the same hair color. She was spunky and cool.

Her guys are fantastic. I cant even pick a favorite between them, they all speak to different parts of my heart and soul. And their treatment of Rory is *chefs kiss*.

The story kept me realed in with enough spice sprinkled into to keep it balanced.

Thank you, Layney, for taking me on another journey. Can't wait for Opal's story. 💖

Begrudgingly your was so angsty, frustrating, and fantastic.

Rory has major issues with alphas and for a good reason, her childhood wasn’t the best with her alpha mother. So when she meets the alphas she is meant for, she fights HARD. Of course this led me to shaking my iPad and yelling in frustration “just give them a chance!”

But it was such a great story of healing and not shrinking yourself to fit a mold or stereotype. Her guys were so fantastic and patient.

And of course we got peeks at Stacia and her guys and that was wonderful.

This one hit all the feels in the best way.
Rory wholeheartedly deserves all the love from her Alphas. ❤️ Jett, Dax, and Everett bring three different kinds of love and support.

Absolutely fantastic! Cozy and sweet and heartwarming!

I love build-a-pack plots because they get so spend to much time figuring each other out and realizing all the ways they fit together and it's always so sweet. We see this a lot in this book, sometimes from the outside and I loved how much the POV character loved to see how their packmates were made for each other. Even the moments of angst feel a bit soft and they don't last long.

If you like college romance, strong female friendships, yearning, a strong omega FMC and alphas with soft silly sides, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, and delicious spice, you will love this book!

riveting!

I adored Patiently Yours, and Begrudgingly Yours hit just the same! The intricacies of so many interconnected characters and what they bring to the table is amazing to read!

Rory’s story was different than Stacia’s, but it still held similar notes of an Omega overcoming past traumas. The way they relied on each other in both stories was incredible and really added depth to the series.

Jett, Dax, and Everett were a fun trip of Alphas to read about! Their personalities meshed well, but my favorite part was getting to see how they grew together. The journey to bliss with their mate wasn’t easy.

I can’t wait to read more in this world and see where Layney’s books go next!

I have been so excited for Rory’s story and I was not disappointed. We get Dax and Everett at the beginning and how obsessed they became without knowing why. Then enter Jett who is hiding his scent and secretly pining after Rory. I loved getting her backstory and why she was so against finding her pack while rooting Stasia on in book 1. I loved pretty much everything about this book except for Rory’s mom but I’m pretty sure that was the intention. I even found myself liking Nicole by the time everything was wrapped up. I cannot wait for the next book and to read Opal’s story!

OMG! I loved this so much and could not put it down. I loved every character for everything they brought to the table. Rory is a firecracker of an omega, Everett is the silent leader who will drop anything to keep his pack safe, Dax is the pack goof which plays nicely along side Rory, and Jett does whatever he can to let Rory shine. I finished this book and got the first book immediately. The writing is phenomenal and the characters all shine. I can't wait for more from Layney!

I have found my new favourite omegaverse author 😍 The way Layney writes FMC’s that carry some emotional trauma is so refreshing, especially when you have such understanding MMC’s that just adore them 🥺

This story was a little different, the pack bond didn’t form until all our alphas had met which I loved. All the guys were already obsessed with Rory (FMC) and it just took a little time for her to open up her heart but when she did, ahh it was so good!

I am so obsessed with this series! Thank you Layney for the ARC!

I was in the biggest slumb ever when this arc dropped on my kindle and was so scared I wasn't gonna be able to read this, but omg this book was exactly what I needed!!.

After reading book one I was super exited for the next book, I just knew it was gonna be good and it did not dissapoint.

The book started with a major bang and for that moment on kept going, there was no dull moment!. I really loved the build-up of the story with these characters, layney did this amazing.

Some of these characters have difficult pasts with their family's and some have super loving family's, I think because of that this pack works so amazing together. Seeing Rory with their mothers was so heartwarming!.

This story had so many interesting and entertaining pieces, Layney outdid herself with this book and I cannot wait to see what more she has for us in the future!.

Thank you Layney for letting me read this book in advance it was awesome!. And if you love a good MFMM story with an amzing pack than Begrudgingly yours is the book for you!.

Green flags! Green flags everywhere!

The alphas in this one were all wonderfully sweet. I loved the way the relationships grew.
And, as in the last book, the story easily passes the Bechdel test.
