Soulmates and Slapshots

Rate this book
I'm escaping the city. He’s chasing a fresh start. In a town full of surprises, love might be the biggest one.
Fiona
I’m a city girl turned temporary small-town resident—yes, I know, cliché. But after my life in Manhattan unraveled, I needed a reset. So when my aunt invited me to Maple Falls, I didn’t hesitate.
The slower pace is exactly what my burned-out brain needs. I’ve even made a few friends—including Weston Smith, a new player for the Ice Breakers hockey team who shows up when I need him most.

A local crisis draws me in, and suddenly I’m more involved than I ever planned. Maybe it’s the fresh air, or maybe it’s Weston. I came here planning to leave… but now, I’m not so sure.

Weston
Maple Falls is my fresh start—new team, new town, and a chance to prove myself. I didn’t expect to get wrapped up in this community so fast—or to fall for a certain city girl.
Fiona is bold and energetic, and I’m drawn to her more every day. When she’s pulled into a town-wide crisis, I don’t hesitate to help.

Maple Falls isn’t just where I play hockey—it’s starting to feel like the place where my future truly begins.

Oh, this was such a sweet, feel good romance! I loved the way Weston and Fiona connected and found each other when neither one was looking for or expecting love. The way these two grew close right from the beginning and were supportive of each other was uplifting to read about.

This story did a great job of making me feel like I was enjoying all of the fall festivities in Maple Falls right along with Weston and Fiona. I also liked getting to experience a few of Weston's hockey games which added excitement to the story, as well.

This was such a fun and sweet story to read and it folds in nicely with the whole series.

This was a sweet love story set in a quaint small town, Maple Falls (Washington), between Weston (a hockey player, newly transferred to town) and Fiona (visiting her aunt and taking a break from her life in New York as a publisher after a recent breakup). They have a meet cute in town and are immediately attracted to each other. Fiona had to decide if she wanted to go back to the fast-paced lifestyle of New York or stay in Maple Falls and pursue a relationship with Weston. It was closed door romance (kissing was as far as we saw); not my usual style, but I loved it! While Weston was a hockey player, the story did not center focus on that, which was great. Although this was #6 in a series, it was easily readable as a standalone.

A perfect read for the upcoming Fall season, complete with delicious sounding baked goods (pumpkin bread and cinnamon rolls? Yes, please!).

I received an ARC copy of this book and am leaving a voluntary review.

Soulmates and Slapshots was such a cute and cozy read! I was looking forward to a small town, fall vibes, hockey romance. And I have to say this book delivered on the small town and fall vibes. Now I want to visit Maple Falls and get the pumpkin bread too!!

Although I think I just needed more for the romance. The book is pretty small so it feels very fast paced and I feel like I didn't get enough time to get attached to them. Some topics were also a bit repetitive (big drama in town, tiktok videos, NYC, Fiona having to go back). I wanted more small moments instead, more Weston and Fiona being cute together! Overall very easy and cozy hockey romcom!

Thank you Netgalley for an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion 🫶🏽

Another day, another beautiful trip to Maple Falls, where the hockey players are taking over the town and all the single ladies are swooning.

Fiona is new in town, she’s a city girl through and through, but following a bad break-up and a reorganisation at work that leave her unsure of herself, she goes to visit her aunt in Maple Falls. to relax and reset. What she wasn’t expecting was Weston Smith, defenseman for the Icebreakers and all around good guy.

They quickly strike up an easy friendship, although Weston clearly wants more. He’s attracted to Fiona right away but will take friendship just to spend more time with her. He’s patient and never pushes Fiona for more than she’s willing to give. He backs her up by being her fake boyfriend when he ex video calls her on the hop. He throws himself into all the fundraising events for the town such as the water drenching, the Maple Fest booth and of course the bachelor auction.

Fiona enjoys her time with Weston but after her ex hurt her, she’s not looking to fall in love again so soon. I love watching her feelings deepen the longer they spend time together, the slow burn of their relationship is lovely to watch develop and they have a great camaraderie.

The rest of the characters all make their appearances throughout the story, if you’ve read the other books in the series, you’ll recognise most of them already. Just Lucien and Neesha’s book left. I’ll be sorry to leave Maple Falls.

I give this 4 1/2 stars!

I want to start by saying I received an ARC of this book. This is a clean romance book and part of the series Love in Maple Falls. The main characters are Weston and Fiona. Weston is a hockey player while Fiona is needing a reset so she goes to stay in Maple Falls. When they meet they are attracted to each other. The longer Fiona stays the more she gets drawn into the small town. I love how Weston was always there for Fiona when she needed it. Fiona is hesitant to get in a relationship after her ex but the more time she spends with Weston the more she falls for him. Will she give in and give Weston a chance? Will Fiona go back to Manhattan or will she stay in Maple Falls? I loved both Weston and Fiona but Weston was probably my favorite as he was so seeet, understandin, and patient with Fiona. The side characters were great as always. This series has been great. Overall, this was a great book.

This was a cute book. Part of a multi-author series but can be a standalone. I liked that Fiona and Weston started as friends, knowing that Fiona was only there on vacation. But we all know as they get to know each other better feelings start to develop. I enjoyed the story and loved that there wasn’t any huge dramatic problem between them, but I didn’t really connect with the characters. The style of writing was a bit off for me; nothing that I can exactly pinpoint, just a feeling as I was reading.

My insta post messed with my format so I’m sorry it’s all caps 😂

TALK ABOUT SOULMATES! THIS BOOK WAS SO FREAKING ADORABLE! I LOVED ALL THE LITTLE MOMENTS BETWEEN THESE TWO. TRULY THIS BOOK FELT LIKE SUCH A BREATH OF FRESH AIR!

FIONA. CAN I BE HER FRIEND? FIONA HAS HIGH ENERGY, SPUNK, AND IS SO FUNNY. I LOVED HOW SHE THREW HERSELF IN WITH THE TOWN OUT OF THE GOODNESS OF HER HEART. AND EVEN THOUGH SHE HAD SOME STUFF GOING ON BACK IN NYC, SHE WAS SO PRESENT AND AMAZING. AND HER AUNT WAS HILARIOUS.

WESTON. THIS MAD IS DOWN BADDDD FOR FIONA AND IT WAS SO CUTE. ALL OF THE LITTLE THINGS THAT HE WOULD DO FOR HER WAS SO CUTE AND THE WAY HE THOUGHT ABOUT HER *QUE HEART EYES* WAS AMAZING.

I LOVE HOW FRIENDSHIP WAS SO IMPORTANT TO HIM AND IT MADE THE PROGRESSION OF THEIR RELATIONSHIP SO NATURAL!

This was another fantastic book in the Love in Maple Falls series! Fiona and Weston’s love story was such a sweet romance. They connected instantly, and their relationship just grew naturally from that first meeting.

There was a lot to love in this one - he falls first, second chances, hockey romance, slow burn romance, all the cozy fall vibes, and so much more!

I loved how supportive they both were of each other, and I appreciated that there was never any pressure from Weston’s side for Fiona to decide to stay in Maple Falls no matter how much he wanted that. But thank goodness for both of them that everything worked out for her to do just that!

Thank you so much to Melissa Baldwin and Booked with the Emilys for the gifted copy of this book! 🍁

My Thoughts:
This one was really cute! I was excited to read Fiona's story after reading some of the other books in this series. The small town romance feel was great in this one!! The author did a wonderful job incorporating lots of the other parts of town mentioned briefly in the other books.

Fiona and Weston had this adorable friendship they built and I loved how natural their friendship turned into romance. They had some sweet, cute flirting. They had such a sweetness to their relationship. They had a great ease and openness with each other. The genuine care and support they had for each other's dreams was sweet. I enjoyed how Fiona made Weston confident in his hockey talent and taught him how to be confident in his skills. Fiona was such a sunshine and didn't let things bring her down, I loved her determination and her dedication to the town of Maple Falls.

Gotta love Aunt Denise! She was hilarious! And the fall and small town vibes were so great. I loved seeing more of the town and how the authors in this series weaved in other parts of the story so well. The fall elements were done so well, very cozy.

✅ This is a great book for anyone who enjoys -
• books/genre - Small town romance, Cozy Fall romance, Hockey romance & Rom-com
• themes/tropes - Small town, Tight knit community, Slow burn, Cozy Fall setting, Soulmate feels, City girl FMC, Hockey player MMC & He falls first

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

✧ SUMMARY/OPINIONS ✧

ℹ️ Book 6 of 7 in the multi-author ‘Love in Maple Falls’ ice hockey romcom series. Each book can be read as standalone but for maximum enjoyment the authors suggest reading them in order. As they’re interconnected & share the same timeline, I would also suggest reading the series in full.

Soulmates & Slapshots is a slow burn hockey rom-com filled with love, positivity & all the cozy fall feels you could ask for. It’s set in the small, Hallmark-esque town of Maple Falls - a place where people who aren’t searching for love seem to find it & just visiting turns into never leaving. It’s a short, easy-going, light hearted story that can be read in one sitting & will leave you with a smile on your face!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

✧ CHARACTERS ✧

• Fiona (FMC) is a city girl who finds herself in Maple Falls due to uncertainty with her job & an unexpected breakup. She’s passionate & enthusiastic with the sweetest soul (as shown by her going all in to save a town she doesn’t even live in!)

• Weston (MMC) has the purest heart & warmest personality. Having just joined the Ice Breakers hockey team, he too is new to Maple Falls & like Fiona, wants to do everything he can to help save the town.

Fiona & Weston are so sweet together 💖 Melissa’s pacing allowed for a natural, realistic progression between the pair & I loved seeing their relationship transition from friends to lovers.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

✧ FINAL THOUGHTS ✧

Every book I’ve read from the ‘Love in Maple Falls’ series has put a smile on my face & Soulmates & Slapshots was no different. This short, sweet, heartwarming story is the penultimate book in the series (6/7) & can be read as a standalone (as can the others). It was a cozy, comforting love story for both Fiona & Weston & the wider Maple Falls community & their town. If you find yourself needing a happy, positive, easy going book, I’d definitely recommend Soulmates & Slapshots.

📣 Thank you SO much to Melissa Baldwin for allowing me to read & review this ARC! This is my honest opinion & I’m sharing it voluntarily.

When ice hockey player Weston meets New York City girl Fiona in Soulmates and Slapshots by Melissa Baldwin, the 6th book in the Love in Maple Falls Series, they immediately have a connection: both are new to Maple Falls so they know what it is to be new in a small town. Weston is relocated to the Ice Breakers team and he is a bit insecure, as he wants to do his best but thinks he has to do better. Fiona is staying with her aunt, as her job is on the line and she had a bad break up as well.

This book was a joy to read. With each book in this series, you get to know Maple Falls better. Melissa Baldwin writes in such a way that you see it all before your eyes: the small town, the colouring leaves, the stores, the people. Weston is a great character. He loves his sport and the relationship with his teammates is just wonderful. The Ice Breakers are a great team and the whole town supports them. The scenes with the games are great, everyone shows up and you can feel the energy. Fiona is a big city girl, but as time goes by, she loves the quiet of Maple Falls and does not know if she should stay or go back to New York. It does not help that her best friend calls her frequently to come back home.

The first meeting between Weston and Fiona is a lovely meet-cute. They become friends instantly, but Weston feels more from the very start, but also gives Fiona time to make up her mind. This all made for great reading and I had a really hard time putting the book down.
The writing is flowing, and there are lots of great scenes and humour in this book. But all things are not well in Maple Falls and Fiona wants to help out as she has come to love the town. I still am wondering who this mystery guy is who is upsetting the town. Maybe we will learn that in the last book?

Fiona’s aunt I loved the best. She is a great character, loves hockey and the Ice Breakers and from her Fiona (and I) learned a lot about ice hockey.

Soulmates and Slapshots is a great addition to a lovely sweet romantic small-town hockey romances series, with the small-town Maple Falls as décor and I have come to love this town more with each book that I read. I will be sorry when it all comes to an end.

So, if you love a good clean small-town series, these are the books you want to read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️️⭐️/ ️🌶️

I love romance of all types. I love the drama, the tension, the progression of feelings. Sometimes though it is awesome to pick up a book and instantly feel the connection two MCs have with each other. The feelings are admitted, the chemistry acknowledged, and the only tension you feel is when they finally kiss. Melissa Baldwin gives just this in Soulmates and Slapshots, book 6 in the Love in Maple Falls series. From the moment our two MCs meet it is nothing but a growing attraction.

Fiona and Weston are complete opposites. Fiona is visiting her aunt in Maple Falls, mending a broken heart. Weston plays for the local hockey team, The Icebreakers. When they meet, instant attraction. Fiona isn’t wanting to jump in anything new too quickly, but the attraction is there and you know she won’t be able to fight it for long. Weston is exactly what Fiona needs. Patient, attentive, and listens to her. Even pretends to be her boyfriend when her ex calls her and catches her off guard.

As they continue to spend time together, it is obvious Fiona is having a harder and harder time denying how perfect Weston is for her and the growing feelings she has for him. So many times I think I threw my head back and thought “Come on! You know you like him!”. But Melissa is a master at giving her readers the long burn that makes us keep reading to see when “it” finally happens. I fell in love with these two, while getting to catch up with other characters from previous books in the series.

Melissa’s book is second to last in this series and just as before when I finished the Love on Thin Ice series, Maple Falls will be hard to say goodbye to, for the second time. With only one more book to go, it is a bittersweet goodbye. This series is easy to read, can be read in any order, and will pull you in. Every author provides a distinct voice, while tying the series together seamlessly.

As always, review any author notes before reading.

What to Expect:
🏒Small Town Romance
🍂Second Chance Romance
🏒Hockey Player MMC
🍂CIty Girl FMC
🏒Opposites Attract
🍂He Falls First
🏒Clean Romance

Soulmates and Slapshots

Soulmates and Slapshots is a light-hearted, feel good romantic comedy featuring Ice Breakers defenseman Weston Smith and NYC book editor, Fiona Hale. Fiona is taking a break from the big city, visiting her aunt in Maple Falls. She’s only supposed to be in town for a short time but Maple Falls and one of its newest residents seem to be working their way into her heart. Weston moved here to play hockey. He’s still working to prove he’s an asset to the team, even if it's only to himself. Weston and Fiona run into each other around town and settle into a fast friendship that definitely has the potential for more. But with her leaving and him staying, will they have an opportunity to explore this thing between them before they have to say goodbye?

Weston is such a sweetheart, a total golden retriever. He is kind, caring, and supportive. He knows Fiona has been through a lot between her ex and her job situation. He doesn’t want to push, he just wants to spend time with her. I love how genuine he is and how much he truly wants the best for Fiona.

Fiona needs a soft place to land and reset. She came to Maple Falls to visit her aunt but finds herself championing the fight to save the town. Fiona is kind, passionate, and independent. She’s a go-getter, someone who likes to stay busy. She loves her job in the city but she’s fallen in love with Maple Falls too. Both places feel like home. After her ex blindsided her, she isn’t sure she can trust her judgement in men and relationships. She has to decide if she’s willing to risk her job and her heart for something that feels meant to be.

I enjoyed getting to know Aunt Dee and seeing the events from previous books from Weston and Fiona’s POV. I have noticed a few inconsistencies between storylines - Jamie and Ashlyn’s interaction at the bachelor auction being one - but overall, I’m so impressed with how well each story supports the other and how the details have flowed throughout the series.

If you are looking for a cute, cozy, closed door romance, add Soulmates and Slapshots to your TBR.

Thank you Melissa Baldwin for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Okay, my least favorite book about Maple Falls couples so far.

It's a quick read if you can slog through a plot that skips a lot of events that happen around town and the near insta-infatuation these two have with each other despite not spending a lot of time together. Sure the author mentions in passing that they eventually start texting each other while Weston is on the road.

The author maybe gives you a hint of the start and the end of a lot of events via some stilted conversations between the two Main Characters. As a result, it feels like the two characters aren't really a part of the goings on in town, even though they technically are. In fact, I think this was my biggest issue with this book. Everything they seem to do involving the town is either mentioned in passing or completely glossed over. Even Fiona's big 'save the birds' thing is glossed over despite it apparently being a huge part of the campaign to stop development. sigh. Instead you get a lot of repetitive indecision from Fiona about going back to New York and a lot of Weston fretting about her going back to New York. Oh and the author telling you they talked, but you don't get to see most of that either.

I don't know, I was bored of the lack of anything going on on page. It was mostly the author telling you in a passing sentence that so-n-so did this or that, end communication about this or that. . I didn't feel connected to the characters. I didn't really feel their romance because you don't actually see a lot of their whirlwind romance. This one is supposed to take place over a couple of months but it felt like days due to the writing. Weeks, events, everything was just glossed over.

Also, the fact that Hayley got off pulling that kind of stunt and gets to call herself the bestest best friend ever at that end with Fiona agreeing is...a little off putting. And the ex's attempt to get her back....what a joke. Why have these two at all? A company merger is enough of a reason for Fiona to take a break.

Anyhow, this one was disappointing. I don't think it was worth my time to read it really.

This was such a sweet and easy read.
Two big city people move to a small town. He moved permanently for work and she is in town just for a visit after some big upheavels in her life left her feeling unmoored. Neither are looking for love, but it finds them anyway.
So, minimally filtered and slightly chaotic thoughts:
I am a major mood reader, I struggle reading books that I'm not currently in the mood for. When I signed up for this ARC I was HEAVY in the sports romcom, especially hockey romcoms. But litterally just before the ARCs dropped, I read a new release by an author I love in the romantasy catagory and suddenly I can't get enough of romantasy and not really in the mood for contemporary anything.
Well, this book was so sweet, such an easy book to sink into that I had NO problems switching to it after the first chapter. It was adorable.
I love their respect for eachother, how comfortable they were from the beginning. That their building attraction was built on a connection that was more then an electric physical attraction (that was definitely there, just not all that kept bringing them together).
This was a sweet, clean, kisses only adorable Hockey romcom, it is the 6th part of the series Love in Maple Falls. These books can be read in any order.

***Received as an ARC, opinions all my own.
My star rating system - (FYI this is fairly recent. I have a lot of books I've rated in the past that don't follow this system)
⭐ - DNF
⭐⭐ - Finished it, but had lots of issues, will never Reread. Unlikely to recommend.
⭐⭐⭐ - Finished it, enjoyed it, was a fun and easy read. Probably won't reread, but definitely will recommend, might have a small issue or two but nothing that would take away from the enjoyment.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Thoroughly enjoyed it. No glaring issues. Might eventually reread, not guaranteed.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Loved it, rave about it to absolutely anyone who will listen, brilliant on all fronts. It was on my reread list before I even finished it.

Soulmates and Slapshots is the sixth book in the Love in Maple Falls series. This is a collection of seven books, each written by a different author, but they all take place in Maple Falls, Washington. Each book is a standalone but you'll probably want to read the full series in order!

This one is a small town, soulmate, hockey romance featuring Fiona Hale and Weston Smith.

Fiona is an editor at publishing company in Manhattan. After a merger followed by a major reorganization, in addition to a confusing situation with her relationship, she decided she needed a break. Her Aunt Denise invited her to come to Maple Falls and stay with her for as long as she wants. Denise hopes that might be forever.

Weston left the Tennessee Wolves to join the Maple Falls Ice Breakers. This is a second chance for him to prove his skills not only to the team and the town, but himself as well.

When Weston first sees Fiona on the street, he is instantly captivated and can't look away. There's something about her that calls to him. This couple starts off as friends but cannot deny how comfortable it feels being together, like it was meant to be.

This was a quick and easy read that fit in nicely to the series. Both seem like lovely people who found their other half. I would have wanted more passion between them, but that's okay. I still enjoyed it. Overall I'd give it 3.5 stars but I've rounded up to 4.

If, like me, you plan to read the full series, here are all the books and authors:

Fake-Off with Fate by Whitney Dineen
Offside and Off-Limits by Kate O’Keeffe
Checking Mr. Wrong by Anne Kemp
Skating and Fake Dating by Ellie Hall
Goalie and the Girl Next Door by Elsie Woods
Soulmates and Slapshots by Melissa Baldwin

Happy Reading!

Two people who are looking for a fresh start and have left the big city behind find a kindred spirit with each other. Love and romance are the last things on their minds, but love is always in the air in the charming town of Maple Falls.

Fiona has escaped New York for more than one reason. Her plan is to have a short visit with her aunt. Before she knows it she is helping to save the town from an investor, and is fully invested in everything Maple Falls has to offer.

Weston has come to town to play hockey. He is not sure about his new team or his new town as everything is so different, but he is willing to give it a shot. I immediately liked Weston. He was a go with the flow kind of guy. He loved playing hockey, but did not have cockiness that you see in some of these players.

When these two meet, they are immediate friends. This was a sweet romance that built up as the story grew. It got to enjoy all of the fundraising/team building things that I have come to love in each one of these books. It is funny to see how each player reacts so differently to being drenched (basically a wet t-shirt contest for men), a bachelor auction and a viral TikTok dance with hunky hockey players. Each one from every story feels differently about each event.

Fiona's aunt was one of my favorites in this story. This lady knew her hockey players and she loved to dress to impress, or should I say dress so you can't miss her.

Maple Falls continues to steal my heart with its wonderful love stories of people, and a community and business owners that care about their town and its people. The Icebreakers have just made this quaint town come even more alive.

Soulmates and Slapshots

The next book is about Weston and Fiona. And I can tell you again, what a wonderful story! I really enjoyed this story; it's a novella, so I got through it quickly, but that certainly didn't make it any less enjoyable.

Weston and Fiona have great chemistry and a beautiful storyline. They respect each other completely, and Weston lets Fiona make her own decisions about her future. Fiona becomes deeply involved in Maple Falls and even helps her aunt save the town. Weston finds his place on the new ice hockey team, and you really see him grow throughout the book! This was a wonderful story and I definitely recommend it. You can read each book independently without spoilers from the other books.

Soulmates and Slapshots is book #6 in the Love in Maple Falls series. These books can be enjoyed and read as standalone books but definitely are more enjoyable as the series. When read together in any order, the reader is able to meet and learn more about the many characters and funny occurrences from many standpoints.

This story introduces readers to Weston, the newest defensive player for the Ice Breakers NHL Hockey Team in Maple Falls. Weston just got promoted to the team and is looking forward to the change and the opportunity to prove he is a solid player and make an impact on his new team. Fiona is visiting her aunt in Maple Falls after some upsetting changes in her job and relationships in New York. Weston is just looking to make a new home for himself and help save the community from a new threat. Fiona has to decide what she wants from her life now and how she is going to accomplish those goals while getting caught up in the helping to stop an unexpected takeover attempt of her aunt's hometown. Neither is looking for love, their friendship slowly progresses into more and both must decide what they want to see happen in the future. Sit back and enjoy the many events that Weston and Fiona take the reader through and multitude of emotions before they figure out what is best for them. Lots of ups and downs to keep you engaged.

I highly recommend this book. Listen to both sides think their way through so many emotions and thoughts. A few hours of lost sleep was worth finding out how Weston and Fiona find their HEA.

I received an ARC copy of this book and I am leaving an honest voluntary review.

Soulmates and Slapshots was the first book of the Love in Maple Falls series I’ve read and I absolutely loved it! The autumn vibes were strong with this one. Fiona and Weston were really adorable, from the meet-cute, to them being friends and later more, the communication and character descriptions were great. The whole setting was described really well so I could relate to the scenes. All of Maple Falls sounds so cute, from the small coffee shop to the lodge. Additionally the whole town coming together to support their hockey team and the hockey team showing up for the town? Sign me up! I think that is what being in a team should be like, so I really appreciated the storyline. I have heard a lot about Melissa Baldwin’s books and after reading this, I will definitely add more to my tbr pile. The writing style is easy to follow and entertaining while also making you feel along with the characters. Fiona is a typical citygirl that is escaping New York City to Maple Falls after a breakup. Her aunt, who is quite the character, housed her and as a hockey super fan she of course took her niece along to the games. Weston and Fiona already had their meet cute on the streets and became fast friends. It was lovely to see both of them finding friends and slowly their place in the small town world as well. For some reason I could not vibe with Fiona’s friend in New York, she just seemed like a mean girl to me and whenever she was mentioned I was reminded why I didn’t like her. Other than that one character I loved all of them and can highly recommend this book for all looking for a cute sports romance with autumn vibes. One you’re there you never want to leave 😉

ARC REVIEW:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Moving isn’t easy for Weston Smith. Unfortunately,as a professional hockey player it comes with the territory. After saying goodbye to his friends, teammates, and city he has embraced his new environment. But the transition is made a whole lot easier when a beautiful woman enters his life.

Fiona Hale needed an escape from her day to day life. Living in Maple Falls, Washington with her Aunt Dee was supposed to be temporary. She never expected the charming small town and its community to welcome her with open arms. Now she must decide if it makes sense to return to Manhattan, or stay indefinitely.

Soulmates and Slapshots is the sixth book in the Love in Maple Falls Series. This is an interconnected, multi-author series that follows seven professional hockey players as they find love in a small-town. While each book is written as a standalone, they are best enjoyed as a collective whole!

I am so thankful to this series for introducing me to Melissa Baldwin. You would think being a USA bestselling author would have put her on my radar a long time ago. Unfortunately, it hasn’t.

Despite being late to the party I am now a huge fan of her work. She helped me get out of a pretty substantial reading slump. She could publish her grocery list and I would gladly stand in line to read it. She is just that talented!

Be sure to read this book for:
-soulmate romance
-slow burn
-fall vibes

Special thanks to Netgalley and Melissa Baldwin for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

OMG I'M SO IN LOVE!!!! I flew through this book! I love when I get a new book from Melissa Baldwin and I'm so glad she returned to the Love on Thin Ice Series as well. This book was AMAZING!! You won't be able to stop yourself from falling head over heels in love with Fiona & Weston! These two had my heart right away!

Fiona is in Maple Falls to visit her Aunt after her boyfriend broke up with her out of the blue and her work is going through changes so she doesn't know where she will end up so she needed to get away for a bit. Her Aunt wants to do everything she can to get her to stay in Maple Falls. LOL...When she arrives she meets Weston Smith one of the Hockey player for the Ice Breakers and they end up becoming friends right away.

Weston is here to play for the Ice Breakers and he's hoping this will be his chance to prove himself. When he meets Fiona he is drawn to her and they become friends. But will he be able to just be friends. Fiona is drawn into the town drama and is trying to help and he starts helping as well. These two make such a great team and the chemistry they have is amazing!

You will definitely be smiling like crazy through out this book! There will be LOL moments, you will swoon and be left with the perfect ending! I HIGHLY recommend this book!! I also recommend this series!

Thank you Melissa Baldwin for allowing me to read this ARC for my honest opinion.

Soulmates and Slapshots is a light-hearted, cozy small-town romance that follows Fiona, who retreats to Maple Hills to spend time with her aunt and take a break from her life in New York. Stepping away from her busy life, she soon finds herself drawn into the charm of the town, and also into the orbit of Weston, the local hockey star with a heart of gold who is also new to town.

The story unfolds as a sweet, fast-paced romance with elements of community and discovering where home truly lies. The romance is tender and easygoing, with Weston bringing the golden retriever energy you'd want in a small-town hero and Fiona bringing her independent, go-getter attitude. While the conflict is minimal, the book leans into its cozy atmosphere and quick pacing to create a light, enjoyable escape.

While the story's charm lies in its simplicity and straightforwardness, I wished for a little more build-up between Fiona and Weston to give their relationship added depth. Additionally, since the central conflict is mild, some side arcs feel underdeveloped. The “town crisis” that draws Fiona in is serviceable but could have been given more depth or stakes to enrich the world.

Overall, Soulmates and Slapshots delivers a fast-paced, feel-good story that leaves you smiling. It’s perfect for readers who love small-town settings, cozy hockey vibes, and characters who wear their hearts on their sleeves!

Oh, how I love a sweet instalove story. ❤️

Soulmates and Slapshots was so cute! In a traditional meet cute between strangers who are just being kind, some intervention of happenstance, and genuine friendship make this love story for Fiona and Weston sing. The wounded heroine and the steady hero work together to save Maple Falls and, in the process, heal up some old wounds and find new purpose.

I adored the friendship and chemistry between Fiona and Weston. It isn't the sizzling, off-the-charts kind, but a more tempered because it felt like there would always be an expiration date. It made their relationship wholesome and relatable. Their biggest obstacle is Fiona's temporary stay in Maple Falls, so nothing is over the top. Sometimes, we just need a straightforward, feel-good story.

I also loved that this story didn't overly dwell in detail on events from previous stories. There were enough details to keep the shared world consistent, but not so much to feel like you have read the same story twice. In my opinion, this might be the strongest standalone of the series (but I definitely recommend reading them all).

Soulmates and Slapshots is Book 6 in the Love in Maple Falls multi-author series. I received a copy of this story from the author. All thoughts contained here are my own honest opinions.

4 stars.

This is really happening. I’m home, and the most amazing man is right here beside me. This city girl ended up in a small town, exactly where she’s meant to be. Maybe it’s not so cliché after all.

I have been enjoying this series a lot. I think it's fun that all the seven books are written by different authors and happen at the same time. It's like one big book with so many POVs!

WHAT I LIKED: Weston was such a great hero. A true cinnamon roll hero! I liked how smoothly the story proceeded and I LOVED that the looming Fiona's-going-back-to-the-city thing was solved so easily.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE: Somehow I didn't connect with the characters as well as I would've hoped.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Pov: dual, 1st person
Heat: kissing only
Pacing: slowburn
Communication: healthy communication
Third act:
Ending:

Main characters:
* Cinnamon roll hero
* Friends to lovers

What?
* He falls first
* Sports romance: hockey

Where?
* Small town

Drama?
* Difficult past

Other vibes:
* Fall romance
* ”We’re just friends”

Sweet, Slow Burn, Friends to More? In Charming Hallmark Town

This was a great visit to Maple Falls with wonderful characters who are both undergoing periods of change and stress in both their personal and professional lives. Weston is newly promoted to the "big league - NHL" and transferred to the newly formed Maple Falls Ice Breakers where he needs to form new bonds with his teammates, new friendships and prove himself all in new surroundings. Fiona is visiting her aunt "in limbo" from her job and having been dumped by her boyfriend of 2 years and now is looking to regroup and figure out her next plan. When they meet there is chemistry, but also an instant connection of friendship. Weston definitely falls first, but is cautious in not scaring her away and I love that he always wants what's best for Fiona. The best part was Maple Falls working its magic in getting them together and I could not put the book down. It is part of the new "Love in Maple Falls" multi-author interconnected series, but it also works as a standalone - although so far, the series and the rest of their "Maple Falls Family" is as wonderful as the previous Love on Thin Ice this group of authors brought us - Enjoy!

I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Weston and Fiona are seriously the cutest and the absolute sweetest couple. Fiona is on vacation visiting her aunt after breaking up with her boyfriend and getting the news that her job could be in jeopardy. Fiona is a city girl that is getting used to the small town life, mostly with the help of Weston a defender on The Ice Breakers. Weston is pretty much the opposite of a professional hockey player. He isn’t cocky and in fact doubts himself a bit, he is not a huge fan of the spotlight but does acknowledge that the job means playing in the spotlight. The two of them together are pretty much obsessed with each other, but are pretty realistic when it comes to how long they have known each other and the barriers they face as a couple.

This book had a little bit of a slower pace than some of the other books in the series, but it worked. I actually liked that Fiona was a little bit apart from the town, but still willing to participate and help in saving the town. I liked the call back to the previous series by this group of authors, as well as some reference to previous works by the author, it made it feel full circle. This is part of a series, but honestly can be read as a stand alone, it just has Easter eggs from the other books in this series and others.

So enjoyed Fiona and Weston's book.
Fiona escapes to Maple Falls after a break up and her job in turmoil. Fiona was staying with her aunt and feel so at home.
Weston meets Fiona and there is just something about her. They meet again and end up having dinner together.
Fiona has no idea that Weston is a hockey player but agrees to watch him play.
Since Maple Falls is in trouble. Fiona agrees to help save the town.
When Weston is told he would be in the bachelor auction he was less than thrilled. Fiona end up winning the bid for a free date. Fiona know her time is limited in Maple Falls yet she loves thevtown and likes Weston.
Weston finds he plays better hockey when Fiona is there to cheer him on.
When Fiona told Weston she is leaving to go back to New York, he is sad and just can seem to sleep, his best friend Mac tells him, he must tell Fiona how he feels. Weston doesn't hold back and tell Fiona he wants her to stay. Fiona gets a new job but is surprised when she asks about working remote.
When Fiona surprises Weston with the great news of working remote, he asks her to
be his girlfriend and they couldn't be happier. Sometimes you just have to wait for the perfect person to enter your life.
