Madly Deeply Always: A Slow-Burn Age-Gap Romance Inspired by Sense and Sensibility

She’s a struggling musician seeking a mentor.
He’s the brooding Englishman who lets her stay in his seaside cottage.
Haunted by their pasts, neither dares to fall in love again.

Inspired by the bittersweet yearning of Sense and Sensibility’s Brandon and Marianne, Madly Deeply Always is a modern, emotional slow-burn romance of healing after grief, rediscovering identity, and the unwavering devotion of a gentleman who loves her without expectation, even when it hurts. It can be read as a standalone with a satisfying Happily Ever After.

Heartbroken and afraid to play her guitar, 21-year-old Australian musician Lily-Anne escapes to England to stay in the seaside cottage belonging to Brandon Ward, a once-renowned music manager who worked with her late father.

Living under his roof, she hopes the sea air and his guidance will help her find her way back to music—and herself.

Brandon isn’t what she expected, however. He doesn’t push or demand. He simply gives her space to find her own rhythm again. And in that stillness, something tender begins to stir between them.

But amidst her sister Ellenor’s relentless Harry Potter road trip plans, the not-so-subtle matchmaking of their neighbours, and the charming owner of Willoughby’s Café, recognising their growing feelings isn’t as simple as it seems.

As music slowly returns and their quiet companionship deepens, Lily starts to glimpse the man behind Brandon’s reclusive calm.

But while she looks ahead, a secretly besotted Brandon remains haunted by a past he’s never truly faced—even as he falls for the one person who might finally bring him back to life.

Tender and heartfelt, Madly Deeply Always delivers a blend of coffeehouse warmth, witty banter, mutual pining, and the kind of love that takes its time—until suddenly, it’s everything. If Alan Rickman’s Brandon from Sense and Sensibility stole your heart, this one’s for you.

“Perfect for lovers of...BBC period drama with a dash of Harry Potter nostalgia.”

ARC provided by Roseden Press & Jules Starbrook

It delivers exactly what I love in a romance: A soft-but-intense romance full of healing and pining. The relationships built on a slowly deepening connection rather than instant attraction.

The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that parts of the middle dragged slightly for me, and I occasionally wanted a bit more to happen. But the payoff's worth it, and the emotional tone stays strong all the way through.

An absolute beautiful story!

An emotional rollercoaster that will have you laughing, crying, pulling out your hair, shaking your fist, and then melting away.

This story follows Lily-Anne, as a musician silenced by trauma, she takes a chance to find her voice again, by travel to a new country. Findig hope and solace with an old mate of her dad's, Brandon, she slowly regains control of her life.
Unfortunately, not all is as it seems in the town where her new adventure is set.

Full of twists and turns, angst, and a slow burn that will have you begging for more, Madly, Deeply, Always is sure to captivate you.

It was a book that I couldn't put down! I feel in love with the characters. I couldn't wait to see what happened next. I highly recommend this sweet, romantic read that takes a bit of it's inspiration from a Jane Austen classic.

Thank you Jules for choosing me for an ARC copy of your lastest book. Well what can I say - a slow burn that kept me pining for the characters love.
Lily-Ann is a musician who has lost her way after the death or her father. Nothing seems to be able to rekindle her passion not even her precious guitar. An opportunity to go to the UK to mentor under one of Lily's father's friends arises and she thinks this might be her last chance to find her mojo. Hoping on a plane from Australia, Lily makes her way to the small seaside town of Whitstable. There she meets Brandon who sets out to help her regain her love of music. Whilst in town, Lily stumbles upon a cafe that host live music and has an open mic night. Running into the host of the cafe - the very charismatic Jack Willoughby who talks Lily into coming to the open mic, encouraging her to perhaps play a song. Brandon isn't sure this is a good idea and that Lily might be rushing it, but is this her last chance to take the plunge and see if music still pulses through her veins ???
A tricky triangle forms between Brandon, Lily and Jack but is it just about Lily and her music or is there more to Brandon and Jack's pasts than meets the eye.
A great story that kept me turning to the end. Although I'm more a thriller type of gal, I loved that this story danced around mystery, drama and romance to tell its tale. Now that I have read this one, will definitely seek out Jules' other books. Recommend to anyone wishing for a second chance.

***Potential Spoilers Ahead!***

I received this book as an ARC and when it does release, I think I’m going to buy a trophy copy for my shelves lol. The book is DEFINITELY slow burn. It takes them AGES to finally admit their feelings for each other to themselves and then to act on it takes even longer. There is some smut but it happens pretty far into the book. However, with that being said. The pining and yearning??? *chefs kiss* top tier. I think Jules Starbrook just unleashed a new favorite trope of mine that I didn’t even realized I loved.

I always say that I love books that make me emotional. There are some scenes that deal with past and current traumas (mostly gaslighting) that really got me angry and my poor friends had to hear me rant about it. And I may or may not have told the author herself 😅 sorry Jules! The story also deals with the healing aspect of said trauma as well as grief from tragic losses. If a book can make me tear up (I am not a cryer!) then it’s done a good job.

You can read the prequel to this Not Madly, Not Deeply in a few hours and get most of the backstory on Lily-Anne’s reject of an Ex if you want it. It just helps you understand the way Toby manipulated Lily-Anne into doing what he wanted of her.

Overall, I loved this book. I loved Brandon’s quiet, gentle nature. I loved the chaos that came with Ellenor and I loved Lily-Anne in general. Rupert and Barbara stole the show in the scenes they were in and the Benjamin pranks made me cackle. IYKYK. Happy reading friends. I hope you love it as much as I did!

Madly deeply Always is 2026s romance book we all need!

We’re introduced to Lilly Ann a Brave main female character making a huge step after the end of a difficult relationship and loss of a family member.

There are plenty of Great Harry Potter references without it being to over the top all throughout the book written into the storyline

Jules’ descriptive writing takes you right to Whistable so much so It’s like you’re breathing the fresh sea air.

After starting to move on with life after her difficult and stifling relationship Lilly Anne starts to experiences and appreciate life on her terms again whilst overcoming new emotional and physical obstacles.

The slow burn of this book is intoxicatingly addictive!

Having read the ebook version of this book Madly Deeply Always I will definitely be purchasing a trophy copy for my bookshelf.

Treasures. I like to call them treasures, when you receive a gift from a loved one that takes your breath away. A gift that brings tears of joy, disbelief, amazement. A moment in time that they come back.

Lily-Anne finds herself in the desperate claws of grief with the loss of her father. She has a lovely life following in his footsteps of music but suddenly the music has stopped. The ability to think it, write it, yet alone sing it. The only thing that allows her to hold on to whatever is left of her is the Cole Clark guitar he gave her. A treasure.

Across the globe, there’s a former friend, musician, a music industry professional who knew her father well. Is it possible for him to come alongside her & bring that spark of hope back? The spark that first musical note lights in the darkness?

Author Jules Starbrook has written a beautiful piece of music with this story. Like a cantata that has it moments of ups & downs, bass, baritone, alto & soprano all voices combined with the orchestra instruments, turned into a beautiful medley of hope. What a delightful story to be a part of just by having read it. Make sure not to miss it!

I loved the prequel novella Not Madly, Not Deeply by Jules Starbrook and was instantly hooked on the potential and anticipated romance of Lily-Anne and Brandon. So I was very excited to get a beta copy of Madly Deeply Always!

While I have never read Sense and Sensibility, I love that Jules has given a new life to the themes related to that plot and has given it modern updates and situations that most of us can relate to.

I loved that the novel was from both Lily and Brandons perspective, especially when it was the same scene.

I was so mad at Jack Willoughby that I literally said WTF out loud.

The plot moved forward at a steady pace and I did not feel like there was any parts I wanted to just skim and move on from without really reading it.

I definitely recommend!

What intrigued me about this book was the UK setting (always wanted to live there❤️)
and, as a musician myself, the topic was right down my alley.
I loved seeing the story through both main characters, Brandon and Lily-Anne, and their mental barriers in musicianship and romance, and how their past trauma affected them.
Undeniably cosy setting with an excruciatingly slow burn as they untangle everything, but it's well worth it in the end. There are a few hilarious side characters like Barbara and Rupert, but my favourite was Ellenor, who kinda reminded me of myself with her behaviour.
Easy and fun read to curl up with a nice cup of coffee.

3.5 Stars rounded to a 4!

Madly Deeply Always had some really beautiful moments. I really love Jules Starbrook's storytelling, that shines with this book. She has a really elegant way of setting the scene and keeping momentum. I really enjoyed that aspect.

What I loved: I really enjoyed the characters; they all felt well-thought-out and stayed consistent. I think Lily-Anne is a really easy-to-love character; you root for her from the beginning, and Brandon is the perfect gentleman. I understand the Sense and Sensibility influence here very well, that’s actually what drew me to the story in the first place. The seaside town in England was also beautifully done, I felt like I was there.

What I didn’t love: I think the pacing felt a little off, it felt like there were 3 different stories being told here but they didn’t feel properly interwoven or layered. You have Lily-Anne’s musical journey and healing arc, including the sidetrack of Jack. But then you also have the romance arc between Lily-Anne and Brandon that felt almost non-existent for a majority of the book, which is odd since it’s marketed as a romance and they are the FMC/MMC. Then, 2/3 of the way through the book, Lily-Anne has this accident and a physical healing journey. Around 100 pgs in, I felt the music journey resolve and wondered what another 250 pages were going to do. And I felt that way again around the 275 pg mark.

This is also quite possibly the slowest slow-burn I’ve ever read. It almost feels more like a lit fic or women’s lit book because of it.

Overall, I still really enjoyed the book and would recommend it though!

Thank you to NetGalley and Jules Starbrook for allowing me to read this version!

eARC review!

Madly Deeply Always is a soft, emotional romance that leans hard into using creativity to heal. I liked the way music was woven into Lily-Anne's journey and how she used it to find herself again. This had a very slow-burn, highly romanticized feel, and the ties back to Jane Austen were clear.

That said, Lily-Anne's path to recovery through music felt a little too fast for how deep her grief was (3 days and she was back on stage?), which made parts of her healing arc feel rushed. Once she took the stage again, she also went straight back into practicing for perfection instead of playing for the joy of it, which didn't feel like the methodology she needed to actually find herself. On the flip side, the relationship between the FMC and MMC moved in the opposite direction: their slow-burn dynamic worked for me at first, but once they finally admitted their feelings, I expected their relationship to build more quickly. Instead, the physical side of their relationship felt unnaturally slow, which was odd given the modern timeframe and the lack of any real roadblocks standing in their way.

I was also a bit confused by how many characters seemed to have the financial freedom to quit their jobs with no notice and immediately start globe-trotting, which felt slightly disconnected from reality. Similarly, the Harry Potter references often felt intrusive and heavy-handed. While I understood they were tied to the sister’s depression and coping mechanisms, they tended to pull me out of the story rather than adding to it.

Overall, Madly Deeply Always is a sweet, heartfelt read that I enjoyed, even if the pacing didn’t always land quite right for me.

After being captivated by the prequel, Not Madly, Not Deeply, I was eager to dive into Jules Starbrook’s full-length debut. Madly Deeply Always is a masterclass in the slow-burn romance!

Inspired by Jane Austen’s Sense & Sensibility, the novel follows Lily-Anne and Brandon as they navigate the complexities of grief and healing, quiet longing, and deep desire. Unlike many romance protagonists, Lily-Anne possesses profound depth; her struggles with self-doubt, her disconnection from her musical creativity, and her fears are handled with such sincerity that you feel an instant connection to her journey.

The plot is beautifully layered and dimensional, much like love itself. From the opening scene, I was drawn into a world filled with genuine emotion and 'swoon-worthy' moments. It is a well-crafted novel that evokes a full spectrum of feelings: laughing at the charming 'Harry Potterisms,' feeling endeared by Brandon’s gentlemanly acts of kindness, aching through the misunderstandings, and reeling from an act of betrayal that makes you forget to breathe.

With a supporting cast (deserving of their own story) that leaves you wanting more, this is an impressive debut for any fan of heartfelt contemporary romance. It masterfully captures the patience of a slow-burn and transforms its characters by the final page. Brandon and Lily’s love story is a gem! I am already crossing my fingers for a sequel featuring the supporting cast.

***I had the pleasure of serving as a beta reader for this title. The thoughts expressed are my own opinion.***

I had planned on having an ARC-free December… and then Jules messaged me about her book. From the moment she mentioned it, I was instantly drawn in. I honestly don’t know why it spoke to me so deeply — it just did.
Long story short, I’m fully booked with ARCs until March, but I messaged her back to explain my predicament. She sent it to me anyway, and I was absolutely over the moon.
From the very beginning, you’re pulled into a story filled with past trauma and heavy manipulation. Lily-Anne desperately needs a break — time to find herself and, more importantly, her music again. Enter Brandon, a former music manager. He carries his own deep scars from the past. While Lily-Anne needs his help to rediscover her music, Brandon ends up fixing far more than that. He becomes a constant in her life, and in the process, he begins to heal too.
I don’t usually give overviews in my reviews, but this one just felt right. I was completely sucked into this story from the start. It’s incredibly easy to read, so much so that I flew through it because I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. Add in some wonderfully meddling neighbors, and you have something truly special.
There’s also a subtle Harry Potter theme woven throughout — even if her sister takes it a bit too far… but Eleanor? She’s an entirely different story.
I’m so honored to have been able to read this book early.

I received Madly, Deeply Always as an ARC from Jules, and I was genuinely excited to read it as it’s a modern take on Sense and Sensibility, which I’ve always loved.

The story follows Lily Anne as she navigates the grief of losing her father, who was also her musical mentor. In an attempt to heal and find her way back to music, she travels from Australia to the UK to stay with one of her father’s old friends, a musician and music agent. From there, the story unfolds into an age-gap, forced proximity romance that felt thoughtful, tender, and deeply emotional rather than rushed or gimmicky.

This book hit very close to home for me. It’s set in Whitstable, Kent, which felt incredibly nostalgic as someone originally from Essex. Brandon working on an oyster farm brought back personal memories, my brother did the same work, and the musical themes throughout the story resonated deeply as my dad made guitars and loved music too. Having lost my own dad 15 years ago, parts of this book were emotional in a way I wasn’t expecting, but in the best possible sense.

I loved everything about this story. It was gentle, romantic, full of heart, and beautifully written. I’m especially excited to hear there will be a sequel following Eleanor’s journey, which I will absolutely be reading. Thank you so much to Jules for trusting me with this ARC. I’m really grateful for the opportunity to read it, and it’s a book that will stay with me for a long time.

First of all, a huge thank you to the author, Jules Starbrook, for giving me the opportunity to ARC read this book in exchange for an honest review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️

Where do I even begin with this glorious book?

Madly Deeply Always was everything I could ever want from a modern romance inspired by a beloved historical novel turned film (Sense and Sensibility). From the aching mutual pining, to the emotional healing, to the way he absolutely fell first.

Every element was executed beautifully. And Jules’ writing style? Simply stunning.

This book was definitely outside my usual reading comfort zone, but hey, new year, new vibes, right? And honestly, I couldn’t be happier that I took the leap.

This story was sweet, heart-moving, and breathtakingly beautiful. In my eyes, it’s pure perfection. I became so deeply attached to Lily and Brandon, and watching their connection slowly, delicately come to life was incredibly satisfying. By the time things finally ignited, I felt like kicking my feet.

What truly amazed me is that Madly Deeply Always doesn’t read like the work of a new author. It feels like something written by someone who’s published countless books before.

And yet, this is only Jules’ second release.

I cannot wait to see what she delivers next… especially the next book.

The slooooow burn in this one was almost the death of me.
Well, that and the bi-panic.

Lily-Anne is struggling. After her father's death and escaping a terrible relationship, the musician is looking for a fresh start and a mentor to help her get back to her music.
She flies to England to live with a man she barely knows, but her dad trusted in hopes of finding herself and her passion again. She just didn't expect Brandon, the quiet, brooding, Brit who surprises her every day.

I might be a little in love with both Brandon and Lily-Anne, not going to lie.
These characters are so real, so vulnerable and flawed, that I swooned immediately.
The slow burn is the slowest of burns but set amongst a cozy seaside English town, with lots of banter, hilarious side characters, and a whole lot of Harry Potter references, it is absolutely worth it.
The Sense and Sensibility ties are very loose and the author even admits to that in the beginning, but they are still there and I appreciated them wholly.

Grab a cup of tea and soft blanket when settling in with this one, because you will not want to put it down. You will laugh, you will swoon, you might cry, and
I am counting down the months until Ellenor's story is released. I cannot wait to read it!

Thank you to the author for an ARC of this book.

I just want to start by saying how genuinely lovely it was to spend time in this story. There is such a gentle, comforting quality to Starbrook's writing, even when dealing with heavy emotions. That balance is hard to strike, and she does it beautifully. I never felt overwhelmed, but I did feel deeply. That’s a real skill.

Lily-Anne’s voice feels natural, vulnerable, and very humanesque. I found myself caring about her almost immediately, which is something many stories struggle to achieve. Her inner world is so thoughtful, and I loved how Lily-Anne's emotions unfold slowly instead of being rushed or forced. It feels authentic, like real healing does.

Starbrook's sensory details are wonderful. The settings feel alive without being overly described, and the quiet moments are just as powerful as the dramatic ones. There’s a softness to her prose that makes the story feel safe, like a place readers can settle into and breathe.

This story has heart. It has warmth. It has emotional intelligence. That combination is rare and incredibly valuable.

I'm looking for more to come from this author! <3

I LOVED it! Five stars, immediate yes.
This book captured me from the get go. The love story is gentle and strong. Protective and cautious. Growing and reflective. The connection builds through an appropriate timeline. The main characters are so well rounded individually that they just bring out the best in each other. I fell immediately for the characters I was meant to. I had the ick right away for other characters as well. And then there are characters with a sense of mystery about them that add depth to the plot as a whole.
I laughed out loud. I cried out loud. I cheered for some, I quite literally asked “WHY??” at other times. Everything I want in a book.

If I had to pick a criticism, it would Ellenor’s character. I found her annoying at many times when I didn’t want to be annoyed. I know that she was meant to add flare and excitement but she needed to have other sides as well. This doesn’t take stars away for me, but I do want to see her develop and grow a little more in the next book. I do think that her love interest will bring out the best of her if we get more of them.

I’m so glad I signed up as ARC reader and was accepted! It was a joy to read and review this book. This was my first five start ARC read, ever, and I can’t wait to continue this story.

Content warnings for emotional abuse/gaslighting, grief/loss, physical injury/medical procedures, suicide, pregnancy loss and sexual content.

Lily-Anne’s breakup caused a huge creative block in her music, so much so that she can’t even strum a chord. In a desperate attempt to play again she flies halfway across the world to Brandon Ward’s cottage. Brandon, a once-renowned music manager that had ties to her late father, now oyster farmer, has musical baggage as well. Jack Willoughby can’t break into music on his own so he seduces women and rides their coattails. Can Lily-Anne find herself before she’s lost again or will the momentum she gains be lost to Jack’s ambition?

Wonderfully written blend Harry Potter nostalgia with age gap romance and romantic melancholy. Laughter and tears in equal measure with lovable and villainous characters alike. A bit of open door spice after a healthy dose of extremely slow burn romance and the ties to Jane Austin’s Sense and Sensibility shine. I got so enthralled I read past 3 in the morning but it was worth it!

I received an ARC copy but my opinions are my own.

I had the privilege of receiving an ARC copy of Deeply Madly Always.
While the tropes of this love story are not new the author takes a classic story of love, trauma and loss that leads to healing, self growth and new love. Add in a lot of story development around Harry Potter with a music based background and you have this amazing story.

This slow burn is well written with a strong sense of character and story development. Lily-Anne is struggling with finding herself and overcoming the loss of identity after a bad break-up from a toxic relationship. She leaves for England with the guitar from her late father, to stay with his protege in hopes that he can mentor her and help her find her passion for music and her identity within it again. Brandon is haunted by the ghost of his client Nova/ and past love Natalie. He had left the music business after her tragic death and is living on a coast in England as a quiet oyster farmer. Letting Lily-Anne stay in the apartment connected to his cottage, brings back some memories and ghosts of his past. Their story has the slow burn and obstacles of a great love story.

Thank you Jules Starbrook for providing the opportunity to read and review this ARC!!

I loved this 🥰 The slow burn, the pining 🧑‍🍳💋 The emotional rollercoaster and trauma healing! What a journey.

Lily-Anne is an Australian musician who’s lost herself in grief and a toxic relationship after the death of her father. She looks to a change of scenery (England) and the mentorship of her father’s former colleague, Brandon, to bring her music back.

Both Lily and Brandon are dealing with grief and past trauma. I appreciate how it is expressed with the inner voices and negative self-talk — so relatable. Their mutual attraction is nearly instant, but they need to address those inner demons first. I fell in love with these characters and wanted to protect them from the icky ones (Jack 😒)

I’m generally not a fan of the miscommunication / misunderstanding trope, but it was appropriate and felt realistic given the state of these two. So glad they worked through their own healing and found themselves and each other.

Loved Lily’s sister, Ellenor, and her Harry Potter obsession as coping mechanism. Very much look forward to her and Sean’s story, especially after that teaser excerpt!!!

I LOVE all things Jane Austen, and therefore I was so thrilled to be able to read Madly Deeply Always!

This story was beautiful from start to finish. Jules’ writing is so vivid and realistic that it was easy to get sucked in and not come up for air until the story was finished.

I think my favorite part about this story is that both Brandon and Lily-Anne are suffering from their own respective losses, but they find their way to each other in the slow burn of late-night beach guitar sessions and quiet conversations. The day-to-day domestic routine that establishes itself is always a warm fuzzy. They are both so comfortable with each other that, if their fear of loss again were not standing in their way, I know they would have come together much sooner. But life is a journey, and so is love. They needed to go through all these trials on their way to each other to be able to believe in it.

Not to mention, I immediately fell in love with Brandon. He is definitely a top-tier book boyfriend!

What an impressively written debut. This is a sweet and heartfelt story. The writing is melodic and full of emotion, bringing the characters vividly to life. This is a story about overcoming grief, whether from loss or heartbreak, and learning how to live and find happiness again.

Lily and Brandon share a connection that tugs at the heart. While the story could have progressed earlier if they’d communicated sooner, their silence makes sense as their backstories unfold and they work through healing. This is a true slow burn, with the relationship not picking up until around 85%, but that fits the story, and when it does, it’s handled tastefully.

Lily-Anne’s sister, Ellenor, brings the chaos. Harry Potter fans will appreciate the references she uses as a coping mechanism. She’s set up as the FMC for the next book, and the BOMBSHELL teaser has me eager for what’s next.

Well done, Jules Starbrook! Thank you for sharing this story. 💗 I received this as an advanced read and left this review willingly.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Madly Deeply Always was truly a beautiful story filled with the many facets of grief and finding love in an unexpected place. This story was more than its tropes and I really enjoyed it.

I had my moments of frustration towards the characters when I just wanted them to get it right but I also had times where I wanted to pump my fist in the air and shout out my excitement for them when they put people in their place. I felt attached to the characters and their choices.

I laughed at Lily Anne’s sister Ellenor and her constant Harry Potter banter but knowing that she uses it as her way of coping with life hit me in the chest. Her story will be another sweet and I’m sure heartbreaking addition to this series.

Brandon did some majorly adorable things that had me melting. I loved how truly romantic he was and the slow burn made that finale even sweeter.

I enjoyed finding a new author in Jules by pure chance on TikTok. My new favourite way to find my next reads.

Madly, Deeply, Always is a tender, emotionally charged romance that leans into love in all its vulnerability. Jules Starbrook writes with a softness that makes the emotions feel personal — the kind of story that lingers long after you’ve closed the book.

At its heart, this is a story about connection, timing, and the quiet moments that define a relationship just as much as the dramatic ones. The characters feel genuine and imperfect, carrying emotional weight that makes their journey believable and deeply relatable. I especially loved how the romance unfolds gradually, allowing the bond to grow naturally rather than feeling rushed.

What stood out most was the emotional honesty. This book isn’t just about falling in love — it’s about choosing love, again and again, even when it’s complicated. It’s heartfelt without being overly dramatic, and romantic without losing its grounding in reality.

A beautiful read for anyone who enjoys emotional depth, soft romance, and stories that feel sincere rather than flashy.

Thank you to the author and publisher for providing me with this ARC via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I really enjoyed this book. It talks about grief in such a relatable way, without hurry, with respect, and with hope quietly waiting in the corner.

This is a second chance story for both MCs, and I loved how we get to follow two parallel journeys of finding one’s path anew. The romance was genuinely sweet. I especially appreciated Brandon’s approach to Lily’s trauma: giving her as much space as she needed, even when that meant putting his own feelings aside. That kind of emotional patience felt really meaningful.

This would have been a five-star read for me if not for two things. The first is the love triangle trope, which I’m personally not a fan of (not a critique of the book itself, just my preference). The second is that some scenes felt a bit too prolonged.

In the end, I do think both the love triangle and the slower pacing serve the story well. They just didn’t serve me quite as well, and that’s okay.

Y’ALL! Madly Deeply Always is a quiet, soul-deep punch to the feelings—and I adored it. 😌🌊🎸

Lily-Anne is a heartbroken, burnt-out musician hiding from her guitar, and Brandon Ward is a brooding Englishman with major Alan Rickman-as-Colonel-Brandon energy (yes, I swooned 🫠). He doesn’t fix her. He gives her space. And somehow that tenderness hits harder than grand gestures ever could.

The seaside setting hums with salt air and longing, the slow burn is exquisite, and every shared silence feels intentional. Add in a chaotic sister, meddling neighbors, and a flirty café owner, and the tension is delicious. The writing is introspective, lyrical, and emotionally intelligent—soft, aching, and deeply satisfying.

If you love yearning, healing-after-grief, and a devoted gentleman who loves without expectation, this one will absolutely steal your heart. 💙

I needed this book!!! Gosh—talk about a healing journey. I was not expecting this book to be this good.

At first, I expected the writing to be hard to read, but it wasn’t at all. It’s actually very accessible. The characters are where this book truly shines. We aren’t just told things outright; instead, they unfold like an onion, with layers being peeled back as the story progresses.

I didn’t fully grasp the sense and sensibility reference until after I had time to reflect on it, and I agree, so if you like that story, you will love this book. There is spice, but personally, it felt very tastefully done.

Overall, I highly recommend this book and would absolutely read from this author again.

I really enjoyed this book. From the beginning I was hooked and kept reading well past my bedtime. The characters develop and grow. They heal from past trauma and they do it together but independently.

I wouldn’t really call this a slow burn. The romance and acts of love are just there throughout the story. It’s really sweet seeing their love blossom.

My honest review of why I docked a star:
It’s long. I don’t know what could be edited out but it’s just over 500 pages for a contemporary fiction/romance. If you’re a big Harry Potter fan you’ll enjoy the numerous references. I found it to be a bit much. I also felt that Ellenor became a bigger character, nearly fighting for third billing. I know book two will be her POV but I felt she became a larger part of the story.
