SERIOUSLY SEXY, COMPLETELY CAPTIVATING AND DELIGHTFULLY ENTERTAINING !!!
Title: A Mate for Gideon
Series: The Program
Designation: Book Two of Series, Standalone Novel, NO Cliffhanger
Genre: Paranormal Vampire Romance
Author: Charlene Hartnady
My Rating: FIVE DELICIOUSLY SEXY STARS*****
Charlene Hartnady has dazzled us yet again with A Mate for Gideon, the second release in her brand new series, The Program. And may I just say WOW! I love it! She never fails to tease, tantalize and titillate her readers. I was completely captivated from page one and simply could not put this book down. Oh yes, this book has it all. Love steamy passion and dreamy romance? Well, it's included. Want danger and drama laced with a little intrigue and suspense? Yep, it has that too. Thrills and chills? Most definitely! Have to have spine-tingling plot twists? Well, your in luck because they're also included. Prefer a little humor? Absolutely! As I said - this book has it all. I laughed! I cried! And I found myself holding my breath! Yes, it's that good! So, what are you waiting for? Grab it and start reading. And the best part - these books are all standalone stories with NO cliffhangers! Woo-Hoo! The story is original, unique, well crafted, fast-paced, cute, fun, romantic and seductive. Heck, I'm 63 and even I wanted to apply for "The Program." The narrative is exceptionally well written in the third person with alternating his and her points of view. The dialogue is smart, snappy, well executed and flows seamlessly. The entire book is extremely well edited which is always a big plus for me. The characters shine as brightly as the beacon of a lighthouse. They are captivating, fascinating, engaging, endearing, sexy as sin and at times, laugh out loud funny. Another big plus for me is the recurring appearance of characters from Charlene's previously released books which reinforces not only the validity and believability of the series but also the familiarity of the world in which the book has been written. It is always such a treat to see how our favorite characters are doing. Charlene skillfully combines all these elements into a delicious tale filled to the brim with a little light humor, fun-filled adventure, a dollop of suspense, a generous measure of a romping good time and loads of dreamy romance! Where can I sign up for "The Program?"

Kings Zane and Brant are now proud papas of a bouncing baby boy named Sam and when they aren't trying to keep Queen Tanya happy and satisfied, they're both busy implementing their new "Breeding Program" also known as "The Program." What? Breeding Program? Oh yes, I said breeding program. Zane and Brant have learned through Ward, Stephany's new alpha wolf mate, that humans are, in fact, strong enough to survive a mating with shifters and vampires other than the kings. It seems the shifters have been doing it for years, in secret of course. The Kings have finally embraced this new idea and have been hard at work drawing up the contracts with the humans and finalizing the arrangements. Their hard work has finally paid off and they're launching the first stage of "The Program" by advertising for women to volunteer to date a vampire. Huh? Yep, the initial trial will be called "The Dating Program." Wait - what? What's the difference? Well, I'm glad you asked. The difference is that there will be no mating and no sex with the participants of the initial trial. It will be blood-drinking only. What? Oh, did I forget to mention that part? This trial is for three days only and is strictly to determine if the chosen vampire males can drink blood from the human women without experiencing bloodlust. Oh my! Unfortunately, quite a few vampires suffer from the affliction which can turn calm, disciplined vampires into blood crazed maniacs who can drain a human of all their blood within minutes. Oh no! And, there's no way to tell who will succumb to bloodlust until they actually drink from a human. Yep, that's right! It can be a bit risky. So the vampire males who want to be part of The Program compete in battle against each other to earn their slot. Ten elite vampires are chosen to participate in the program and if they pass the initial phase without succumbing to blood lust, they pass to the next round and will be able to choose a mate from the human females. But the human women will be carefully screened and will also be monetarily compensated so it's worth the risk, right? It would seem so, that is if they survive. Just a minor little problem but all precautions and security measures have been taken. Unfortunately, all of this has become a necessary risk since vampires are becoming extinct. Although it's dangerous for human women to give birth to vampire babies, most female vampires cannot safely birth children at all and have to be sterilized. Sadly, the births resulting from vampire/human unions have been only male children. As a result, there's a shortage of viable women thereby creating the problem - they need human women. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy about this newest little development and have already made an attempt on King Zane's life. So now it seems that the vampires and everyone involved with The Program may be at risk. Oh my goodness!

But the Kings have been having quite the problem with their men because of the human females. They just can't seem to stay away from them. But Kings Brant and Zane knew they would never have to worry about Gideon. He didn't even compete to be one of the ten elite vampire males that would have first choice for a mate from the approved human women. Gideon wanted no part of new 'Dating Program'. Apparently, he doesn't even like humans. He doesn't??? Oh my! He most definitely liked one particular female and secretly had a brief relationship with her eighteen months ago which sadly ended in terrible heartbreak. So, when he realized that Jenna Darcy was currently staying at the castle and also a participant in the Program, he is beyond furious. How dare she? She would have had to lie on her application to be approved. He would order her to leave and if she didn't, he would have her disqualified. Sounds to me like he doth protest too much! Unfortunately, he still loves her but what's even worse, he can't have any contact with her because he's not part of the program! Oh my! What's a vampire in love to do?

Jenna Darcy has lost everything that's ever mattered to her. The new vampire 'Dating Program' is her last chance to hopefully see Gideon and convince him of the true depth of her feelings for him. She's out of money and out of options. She can only hope and pray that Gideon still has feelings for her and will allow her to explain what really happened. If he refuses to help her, well, the price of failure may just be her life. Oh my goodness! Will Gideon and Jenna find a way to be together??? Or will Jenna have to face the danger alone? No spoilers from me but I will say this....Beautiful human woman who is quite literally running for her life-check! Handsome Elite Vampire in charge of security for the Kings who is determined to never fall in love, again-check! A cruel, vicious Sweetwater cop-check! A large cast of wonderful characters-check! Two exasperated Kings-check! A new Breeding Program, a dash of humor, a lot of fun, a little angst, a lot of danger and a pinch of suspense-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, sweet romance and dreamy sex-you bet! That and a whole lot more! Deliciously cute, seriously sexy and delightfully entertaining!

A perfectly compelling story!

Great build-up, much more character development, and very likeable characters.
Super sweet, actually.
Totally got a soft spot for big and scary Lazarus. His friendship was gold.

Loved how vulnerable Gideon felt. And how Jenna stood up for herself and got out of a bad situation.
It was a much more compact story, and I liked it.

Still got the cheesy going - it is Hartnady, but her world-building is worth the little cheesiness.

Light and sexy. #trueHartnadystyle

Wow, this a pretty good story. I read it in one sitting, stayed up till 1 am cause I couldn't put it down, I want to see what happen next.

Gideon and Jenna, they definitely have some hurdles to over come, just a few miss understanding that need to be cleared up, a bad guy that needs to be taken care of, and trying to find away to let the king know they are a couple. What a roller coaster ride. I can't wait to read Lazarus story.

Gideon, head of security for the Vampire Kings, has a few secrets of his own, one of them being a relationship with.... a human. Highly forbidden and resulting in severe punishment, a crime in the vampire world. After a 7 week long fling, a hasty retreat from the girl followed but a return filled with regret many months later, he finds Jenna involved with and pregnant by another man.

Over a year later he is overseeing security for the Breeding Program and comes face to face with a ghost from his past. Jenna is part of the Breeding program and may be a potential mate to one of the 10 elite. For one, he feels that she should not be eligible for the program, considering her circumstances so she must have lied and two, Jenna belongs to him!

Xavier behaves like the typical bull-headed male vampire and doesn't allow her to explain her reasons for being there, focusing instead on getting her disqualified from the program. You will want to punch him in the face and tell him to shut his mouth and open his eyes and ears. But once he does stop to listen to what she has to say, regret for his haste and foolishness, for his behavior in the present and the past, takes deep root. Now he will do everything to save her from her life outside the castle walls and keep her with him forever.

A complex story of misunderstandings and bad timing. This particular installment deals with physical abuse, a sensitive but a much "needs to be talked about" issue. Too many women face this hell of a reality in silence and the need to speak up and reach out for help is essential if they are to survive and have any kind of life.

ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

Grudges are terrible.
They can make you blind to awesome opportunities.
Gideon is a hothead and a professional grudge holder until Jenna drops back into his life.
She wins a place in The Program and he is forced to see her go back and forth in the arm of other vampires.
Jenna is not interested in other vampires. She wants him, but he thinks the worst of her.
Things get complicated.
Jenna hurts, she tries the best she can to make him listen to her reasons, and understand what happened in the past.
Gideon doesn't listen and when he does, he loves her even better.
But Jenna can't have him. King Brant decides she is not worthy, and kicks her out.
All hell break loose when vampire haters abduct her.
King Brant is hateful in this book! Once again.
I could kick him, but his queen does that better.
Gideon and Jenna's story is real; the need of forgiveness is an important topic.
So many people hold grudges and lose a lot, out of spite.
Gideon and Jenna give a lesson on how to overcome bad things with love.

Not sure if I would say 2 1/2 stars or 3 for this book. I just have a hard time constantly hearing the hero can't do something or can't be with the heroine because someone says so even if that someone is a king. Sorry but I want my hero to not care about anything but the heroine. I also got a little irritated with it all being the heroines fault yes she was stupid but everything that happened wasn't her fault a person (or vampire in this case) decides how they want to handle something and what they themselves will or won't do. This story wasn't all bad but I think when there are certain aspects that really aren't things you like in books they can stick out more than other things you like. This author writes bad characters really well ,and I did like this story line and the twist that Charlene Hartnady put on a vampire book.

I really loved Gideon and Jenna's tale. Though the plot was pretty obvious, what really lifts the story is the engagement between the protagonists and the key supporting characters. It really brought the book to life and made you feel for what they went through. I found myself really wanting them to succeed and berating them when they did something stupid, a mark of good characterisation in my book.

The dual narration (which I usually dislike) worked well on this novel and on A Mate for York - the first in the series, which shares the same m/f narrators. The switching worked well and I didn't feel the disconnect when they voiced the same characters, which is always a danger with dual narrators.

Though a standalone novel it does contain spoilers for 'A Mate for York' and is set in the same universe as the Charlene Hartnady's previous 'Chosen' series, with the main protagonists from Chosen By The Vampire Kings; The Complete Edition playing an integral role in 'The Program' series, with spoilers for their story.

4.5 stars - great characters and a worthy love story save a predictable plot and elevate an average story into a book I couldn't put down, or rather couldn't stop listening too.

I do love this series and Gideon. This book flashes to the past quite a bit to tell Gideon and Jenna’s story. They met 1 1/2 years ago, we’re intensely dating, until Gideon found out she wasn’t completely divorced yet. Vampires are obviously different about mares, because they mate for life and he didn’t understand that her divorce was final. So...he left her and she immediately started dating someone else and got pregnant. When he came to his senses and came back for her 9 months later....she was with someone else and very pregnant. My heart broke for Gideon.

Long story short, the boyfriend was highly physically abusive, it was almost tough to read, so this could definitely be a trigger for others. There was just a bit too much personal drama for me personally. Jenna was a tad selfish too, she wanted to be upsetting at Gideon for “rutting” with other females....but he didn’t until he want back to find her with another man and pregnant, he was heart broken and needed to move on.

So, this really wasn’t my favorite books of the series, but I did truly adore Gideon and he was completely faultless in the entire mess either. They were both at fault with their bad decisions.

2.75 stars. Alright so this has been my least favorite book of this authors so far and it was for several reasons.

First the replay where we have to reread a scene that was in the previous book but from a different perspective, though it adds insight, I feel like I should just skip over those parts because it’s a tad annoying.

Unfortunately my next issue is the FMC Jenna, who has been really put through the ringer and I felt so awful for her during her story, I just wasn’t her biggest fan and I feel awful for saying it but she kind of seemed like a flake and a coward, not during her abusive relationship that was horrific to read, but just in general as a character she’s a runner always running from both good and bad problems.

Lastly I really wasn’t all that interested in her and Gideon’s past relationship all the flashbacks weren’t really for me I was more interested in the here and now for sure.

I’m a tad alarmed at the organization of the hate groups as they seem to have dirty cops in their pocket and I’m alarmed that we aren’t taking a more proactive approach here.

Oh man, this second book is just as awesome as the first. My heart raced a lot throughout this book. I wanted so bad for Jenna and Gideon to be together and I wasn't sure that would happen. I could not book this book down it was that good. Questions that I had in the first book got answered in the second book, YAY!!!

Well alrighty then...

To say Gideon has a bit of a temper would be taking it lightly...I mean anyone who would punch their king in the face and...Oops! Getting ahead of myself!

Besides packing muscle and testosterone, Gideon is also packing some pent-up rage caused by his former lover, Jenna Darcy. The flashbacks certainly don't paint Jenna in a flattering light either. Gideon has just cause--I don't care how Jenna tries to justify it--to be ANGRY with her. It speaks volumes of his true character that he is even willing to give her the benefit of the doubt a year and a half later to even listen to the words coming out of her mouth. It's obvious I don't care for Jenna. Her circumstances were unfortunate but hiding the truth and rebounding tends to get you into trouble.

There is a bit more action in this one and King Zane is in the thick of things in this one. King Brant is his usual self so you can take anything he says with a grain of salt. The program tends to bring out the best of one king and the worst in the other. Women, allowing themselves to be so, are once again on display for the vampires to chose them and some are willing to do just about anything to be chosen.

The domestic violence in this book is palpable but so is the women and their treatment as nothing more than property. One has to be in the right frame of mind to read and enjoy this type of story--women don't come across strong; rather weak, mindless and sex controlled.

I'm trying to keep an open mind and moving on to the next story; the third in this series--but something has to change if I am going to read any further. There is going to have to be some female redeeming. This series is bringing out my claws!

On my Were Scale of Hotness, 3 stars.

I am ADDICTED to this series; I can get enough of this paranormal romantic goodness. With alpha males in all shapes and sizes with Ménage à trois, MFM love triangles (eat your heart out), Vampires, Shifters, and Elves. It is Sexy, it is Sizzling, it is smoking Hot, it is Erotic so much so that it jumps right off the pages and leaves you needing a cold shower.
Sassy, headstrong females, and fighting to the death is not uncommon. So, what happens when smoking hot vampires and shifters, mortal enemies want the same thing; this is where things get so interesting, and the fun begins. These men are ruthless, they are vicious, power players, they are violent. There is lots of action, danger and war around every corner but given all that they love fast, they love with their whole heart and make you want to go and find your own.
Charlene has woven a captivating, tangled web of lies, deceit, suspense, drama and love that will leave you breathless. The characters are to die for, and each have their own voice in this series. I love that we get their POV because it makes them more real.
It is not all doom and gloom though there are plenty of witty moments and humour that will have you laughing out loud.
Don’t even stop to think just click and read and tell me I am not wrong. Happy reading!

Sweet second chances

This story was like living a week in a soap opera. I didn't think this story would turn out the way it did. I was rooting for Jenna right from the start though. The inclusion of scenes depicting domestic violence were realistic and had me pulling for her right from the start. I loved the way the Vampires were characterized and showed more humanity than human males. The plot was smooth and the writing is flawless. I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to continuing the series!

Vampire standalone wonderful read!!

Kindle Unlimited standalone book. This is s part of a series of books and within other series but can be read alone. He left her years ago because he thought she lied to him. When she shows up in the breeding program, he can't seem to leave her alone. She's running from an abusive ex and knows just where she wants to be but can he forgive her??

My expectations were:
- it would be like the first book
- human/vampire
- romance
- hyper driven vampire relationship

And I liked it because it wasn't same plot, similar characters, whereas it involved the breeding/dating program, human/vampire relationship but it was way different from York.
Just unexpecting turns, from Gideon, the past, the whys and hows, mini plot with Lazarrus.

All making me want to read the 3rd book, I got a glimpse but I need more!!

This is book #2 of the Program series. From York's book we found out that Gideon had some type of relationship with a human that no one else knew about. His human woman, Jenna joins the Vampire program in order to reconnect with Gideon. He doesn't want anything to do with her but can't stand to see her with anyone else (typical). He starts breaking the rules but will it be enough to keep her? You'll just have to find out for yourself. LOVED IT!

Very cute story about find one another again. This was probably the most tragic and less erotic stories that I've read from Charlene. I loved it. It was well written and quite entertaining. I am finally starting to enjoy Brant again. He's coming around and I love that. Zane is still as wonderful as ever. I can't wait to read the next book. I'm sure it's going to be a favorite of mine.

awesome

it is not what i thought. the reason for Gideon and jenna's separation. i thought his leaving her originally was stupid. i dont blame her for being afraid to tell him. she happened to run into the bad group of people and doesnt know it. im pretty sure there is a mole among the females in the breeding program. obviously. anyway great book. loved it.

I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first because of all the flash backs (30% of the book). This book also left a nasty taste in my mouth for Brant and a love for Lazarus (excited about his book).

What I found interesting was how Charlene intertwined this with the first book..

Same problems here. Missing info. However this book was less enjoyable than the first. Gideon was a judgements dick. He blamed all of his life's problems on the h, and didn't give her the time of day to defend herself. I didn't hate him the whole book, I just thought he was kinda weak.

I loved it!

Warning: mature sexual content, mature themes, and language.

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This is book two of seven of The Program series. (Set in the same world The Chosen Series)

Have you ever wanted to date a vampire? Human women required. Must be enthusiastic about interactions with vampires. Must be willing to undergo a stringent medical exam. Must be prepared to sign a contractual agreement which would include a non-disclosure clause. Limited positions available.

Jenna has a few skeletons in her closet. One of which is tall, dark and gorgeous. He also happens to be a vampire with a grudge against her. She’s made mistakes and has done things she’s not proud of. The time has come to take charge of her life. The opportunity to do just that comes along in the form of an acceptance into the infamous vampire program. She would love to date a vampire, but not just any vampire, her vampire; that is, if he’ll ever forgive her. With such a dark past, she worries whether she’ll ever be able to confront him and in so doing, bare her soul to him. It would kill her to see the disgust and contempt in his eyes when he finds out, her heart clenches and her eyes mist at the thought.

Gideon is almost brought to his knees, when he realizes, that his Jenna is one of the females that’s taking part in the dating program. She’s not his anymore and he is wondering what the hell is she doing here. With all he knows about her, there’s not a damn chance that she was able to meet all the minimum criteria required for acceptance. He’s not interested in her, or any human female for that matter. That said, he also refuses to just stand by and watch her get seduced by one of the victorious ten, elite males. His only option is to find a way to expose her as the deceptive female that she is. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.
