Hosanna reminds us that a "good" relationship with the Lord doesn't have to look the same for everyone. Your quiet time doesn't have to look like my quiet time. As a special needs Mama....and someone who used to feel like she had to have the perfect quiet time set up before I could even come to Jesus....before I had a kid, mind you, this was a breath of fresh air reminder. It was great because now-a-days...I am lucky to get 5 minutes of uninterrupted time with the Lord...and certainly not a "ideal" study time every day.

What stood out even more....as someone with ADHD, I have spent a lot of time feeling like I was failing in my bible study because sometimes my brain doesn't always engage with the traditional study methods some use. I struggle with focusing and consistency. Sometimes I feel guilty for that. This book helped me realize my learning style and personality are not roadblocks or obstacles to my relationship with the Lord...but they're opportunities and part of how He designed me to connect with Him.

Also, as an Autism Mama, this went even deeper for sure. It reminded me that my own son's relationship with the Lord doesn't have to look a certain way. God knows how He created Him. However he understands, responds to and experiences the Lord...that matters to Him. God meets us EXACTLY where we are in each season of life.

Hosanna talks about releasing comparison, shame, and unrealistic expectations that doesn't actually come from God. She shows that throughout Scripture, people encountered God in very different ways. Relationship with Jesus isn't a one-size-fits-all and it doesn't have to look like it did in a different season of your life either. I found all of this very encouraging for me personally.

Some items I connected more than others, but overall a well rounded relatable read that gave a lot of encouragement.

Thank you to the publisher and TLC Book Tours for a gifted copy to read for review. All thoughts are my own.

This book was a lot to unpack and let me tell you, it was SO SO GOOD! I listened to the last half of the book on audible along with reading along in the book and really wish I listened to the whole book this way. So much good stuff. She gave so many practical ways to grow in our faith. Hosanna teaches us our relationship with God is not supposed to be over complicated. It’s truly simple. Love God. Follow His commands. I love how she had 1000 different conversations with 1000 people, that part was cool to hear the stories. Our relationship with God doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s, I love that from chapter 1. She also teaches us we can enjoy our time with God even with a real everyday schedule. There is so much more I could write about this book I want to savor it all. Plenty of highlighted moments I’ll always come back.

Thank you TLC book tours for gifting me this copy. All thought and opinions are my own.

I was blessed to be a part of the launch team for Hosanna Wong‘s new book Uncomplicate It which was released today. I don’t remember how I first heard of Hosanna Wong, but I fell in love with her book., You Are More Than You’ve Been Told a few years ago, I’ve always loved the analogy from the Bible of God being the vine , and we are the branches and we must stay connected to him to bear fruit Hosanna dives deep into the Analogy in this book with extensive research you will not want to miss! Another familiar yet so needed component of this book was talking about the rhythms of life. Jesus‘s rhythms these are the ways we stay connected to God and others “closeness is key to flourishing“ one of my favorite quotes from the book. I highly recommended this book and can’t wait to read it again with my paper copy arriving today

What a wonderful book with a fresh perspective on how God not only uniquely made each of us but also created us to enjoy and worship Him in our own way. Hosanna Wong guides us through steps to help us uncomplicate our personal relationship with God. We don’t have to feel less or like we are missing something if we don’t go to church like other believers. What we find is that God is more interested in our hearts, not our routines.

I've read my fair share of nonfiction books, and this is the first one that felt like the author pulled up a chair at my kitchen table and said, "let's talk." This book isn't a lesson in theology, although Wong seems more than qualified for the task. It isn't a how-to manual for Christians, although Wong clearly and expertly shares transformative principles and insights. Every page exudes an authenticity that is unique, refreshing, and life changing. It's an invitation like no other; an invitation to experience God in the purest, most uncomplicated way imaginable. I needed this.

Chapter 1 - Am I for Real?
- Wong opens this chapter with a story about her life as a young believer being thrown into a situation that made her feel ’not good enough’ to be around certain christians. She first learns about believers who ‘fake it’ and starts questioning her own motives. Wong addresses the "imposter syndrome" of faith. She explores the exhaustion of trying to look like a "good Christian" while feeling disconnected on the inside. This chapter sets the stage for dropping the act.

Quote: “This book is for anyone who has ever felt like they don’t fit hte mold they once thought they had to. Many expectations we put on ourselves do not come from God.”

Question for the reader: If you stopped trying to "look" holy, what would your honest conversation with God sound like right now?
_____________________________________________________________
Chapter 2- What if I dont fit in a box?
-This chapter examines the "spiritual boxes" or templates we inherit from others—traditions, expectations, and "shoulds" that don't actually fit our design.

Quote:” God did not invite you to be in a relationship with Him adn then ask you to abandon all the details of the personality He created you with.”

Question for the reader: Which spiritual habit do you do only because you feel you have to, rather than because it actually connects you to God?

_____________________________________________________________
Chapter 3 - What am I made of?
-Hosanna explains that God intentionally gave you your specific temperament, interests, and quirks. Understanding what you are "made of" is the key to finding your unique way to enjoy Him.

Quote:”Your life may not look exactly how you thought it would, but the desires God has given you were not made to stay dormant, they were made to be nurtured.”

Question for the reader: Are you an introvert who finds God in silence, or an extrovert who finds Him in a crowd? How does your nature change how you pray?

_____________________________________________________________
Chapter 4- Roadblocks and Shortcuts
-This chapter identifies the specific things that trip us up (Roadblocks) and the "quick fixes" (Shortcuts) we use to try to feel spiritual without doing the heart work. It’s about recognizing the distractions that keep us from an uncomplicated connection.

Quote: “God wants a relationship with the real you. God does not want a relationship with a pretend. Version of you. God does not want to heal what you pretend to go through. God does not want to answer prayers you think you’re supposed to pray. He is looking of rpeople who are honestly themselves before Him in worship, engaging in both spirit and in truth”

Question for the reader: What is your go-to "shortcut" when you feel distant from God (e.g., listening to a podcast instead of praying, or just "doing more" to feel better)?

_____________________________________________________________
Chapter 5: Busyness
-This chapter addresses the primary "uncomplicator." Wong argues that busyness is often a shield we use to avoid intimacy with God. She challenges the idea that being "full" is the same as being "fruitful.”

(Okay this quote is long, it’s a whole page, I dont care. THIS WHOLE CHAPTER is how my theology has been for a very long time! It REALLY hit home with me. The amount of people who have told me that I am a slave to busyness and that it takes away from me spending time with the Lord. I have been criticized and reprimanded for this for years, by several different people who dont know my heart well enough at all I guess. But THIS, THIS IS WHAT I AM DOING! If I take nothin else from this book, I take affirmation from this chapter alone! I’m so passionate about this!)

Quote: “How is being faithful in the land where God has put you-your carpool, cubicle, or kitchen-not obeying and spendingtime with God? How is watching your kids play soccer, helping your parents move, assisting your spouse with a project, nursing the baby at midnight, or being a responsible employee, leader, pastor, or coach not obeying and spending time with God? Whether you are overwhelmed at work (doing things God has called you to do or exhausted at home (loving those God has called you to love), it can be easy to feel too busy to spend time with God the way that we want to or think we're supposed to. Sure, it's also entirely possible that we have poor organizational skills or have said yes to too many things, and our feelings of overwhelm are a by-product. One hundred percent-that's possible. But many of us don't have poor scheduling skills; we have poor theology. We think the things God has given us to be faithful in are somehow at odds with being faithful to Him.”

Question for the reader: Think about your ‘busy’. Is it truly too much that is keeping you from the Lord? Or are you serving the Lord in ways that society tells you is ‘busy’?
_____________________________________________________________
Chapter 6- Distractions
-Wong dives into the "noise" that drowns out God’s voice. Unlike roadblocks (which stop us), distractions pull us off to the side, making our relationship with God feel cluttered and complicated.

Quote: “The pace around you does not have to determine the pace within you”

Question for the reader: What is the "loudest" distraction in your life right now (social media, worry, comparison)? How can you turn the volume down?
_____________________________________________________________
Chapter 7 Grief
-Wong addresses the reality that pain often complicates our faith. She gives readers permission to grieve without feeling like they are "failing" at being a Christian. Faith isn't about avoiding sorrow; it's about finding God within it.

Quote: “Getting real with God invites the power of God adn the peace of God to meet you where you really are.”

Question for the reader: Have you been trying to "pray away" a grief that God actually wants to walk through with you?
_____________________________________________________________
Chapter 8- Shame
-Wong explores how shame creates a "ghost" version of ourselves. She argues that shame tells us to hide from God, while grace invites us to be seen. Uncomplicating your faith requires dragging your shame into the light so it loses its power

Quote: “The enemy hopes we’ll fixate on all the ways we think we are falling short.”

Question for the reader: What is the one thing you are currently hiding from God because you feel too "ashamed" to bring it up?
_____________________________________________________________
Chapter 9- Silence
-Wong addresses the "holy awkwardness" of being still. She suggests that we often avoid silence because we are afraid of what we might hear, but it is actually the place where God does His most uncomplicated work. It’s where we stop talking at God and start being with Him.

Quote: “Arrange your life around being with Jesus and living with God’s voice"

Question for the reader: When was the last time you sat in complete silence for more than five minutes without a phone, a book, or a prayer list? What did you feel?
_____________________________________________________________
Chapter 10- Expectations
Wong addresses the "invisible weights"—the high expectations from family, church, and ourselves. She argues that we often mistake people's expectations for God's requirements. Uncomplicating your life requires distinguishing between the "assignments" God gave you and the "expectations" others placed on you.

Quote: “ Friend, you don’t have to crush it. You don’t have to be ahead of everyone. You dont have to feel flawless. you dont have to impress anyone. What Jesus is really calling you to do may not be easier, but it will be better. He is calling you to be whole."

Whose "well done" are you actually chasing? Is it God’s, or is it a specific person’s in your life?
_____________________________________________________________
Chapter 11-Personality
-Wong doubles down on the idea that your personality is your permanent permission slip. She explores how your specific temperament—whether you are a "thinker," "feeler," "rebel," or "nurturer"—dictates how you should naturally rest, pray, and serve. It’s an invitation to stop apologizing for your traits and start using them as a bridge to God.

Quote:” Look for beauty in how differently God has made all of His children, and expect that when you are living your life fully and in your pours, it will look wonderfully different from the other people who are living full and with purpose as well"

Question for the reader: Which part of your personality have you spent the most time trying to "fix" to be more "spiritual"? What if that trait is actually how God wants to talk to you?
_____________________________________________________________
Chapter 12- Praise-o-nality
-Wong combines "Praise" and "Personality." She argues that your worship doesn't have to look like a concert or a traditional worship. Your "Praise-o-nality" is the unique way you express gratitude and honor to God through your life—whether that’s through creating art, organizing a home, enjoying nature, or solving a problem. It’s about living as a "living sacrifice" in a way that feels like a relief, not a chore.

Quote: “ They are to show you that there are some ways you might worship God tha might be totally different from others I your life, and the best way for all of us to encounter God is to be fully ourselves before Him."

Question for the reader: Which of the 7 lists Praisonalities would you say you are or, if you were to give your "Praise-o-nality" a name (e.g., The Quiet Creator, The Joyful Connector, The Logical Truth-Seeker), what would it be?
_____________________________________________________________
Chapter 13- Personal Structure
-Wong emphasizes that an "uncomplicated" life still requires a skeleton to hold it up. However, instead of a one-size-fits-all religious routine, she helps you build a Personal Structure—a set of boundaries and rhythms that protect your peace and your "Praise-o-nality." It’s about building a life that supports your unique connection with God rather than a life that drains it.

Quote: “We must not raise a generation of Jesus followers who care more about their spiritual practices than personal closeness to Jesus Himself"

Question for the reader: What are the three non-negotiable boundaries you need to set this week to protect your "uncomplicated" rhythm?
_____________________________________________________________
Chapter 14- Practical Supports
-Wong focuses on the "village" and the "tools." She argues that you cannot stay uncomplicated alone. Practical supports include the people who hold you accountable, the physical environments you create, and the specific resources (apps, journals, communities) that feed your unique "Praise-o-nality." It’s about setting up your life so that the "uncomplicated" choice becomes the easiest choice.

Quote: “The notion that reading the Bible is important is not incorrect, just incomplete. The goal was never to just to read the Bible but to know, understand and engage with what it says — to know God adn get closer to him. We don’t want to be people who are good at knowing about God without truly knowing GOd Himself. We don’t want to be good at quoting scripture but bad at living it out.”

Question for the reader: Who are the two people in your life who actually "get" your unique way of enjoying God and will help you protect it?
_____________________________________________________________
Chapter 15 - Play
-Wong argues that "play" is not a luxury or a waste of time; it is a spiritual necessity. When we play, we drop our guard, stop performing, and exist in the moment—which is exactly where God is. This chapter gives the reader the "permission slip" to enjoy God through hobbies, laughter, and lightheartedness, proving that holiness isn't synonymous with being somber.

Quote: “Our expectations to have the most elite routines ever are exhausting, and they do not come from God."

Question for the reader: What did you love to do as a child just because it was fun? How can you incorporate a "spiritual version" of that play into your week?
_____________________________________________________________
Chapter 16 - Prune
-Wong teaches that pruning is not a punishment, but a requirement for growth. She explores how we must regularly evaluate our commitments, relationships, and habits—even the "healthy” ones, to ensure they aren't cluttering our path to God. Pruning is the proactive way we keep our lives from becoming complicated all over again.

Quote: “ If we want a real relationship with Gid, we have to stop thinking that it’s about producing as much as possible."

Question for the reader: What is something "good" in your life right now that is actually taking up the space intended for something "great”?
_____________________________________________________________
Chapter 17- How do I know if this is real for me?
-She suggests that the proof of a "real" connection with God isn't found in a feeling or a perfect streak of "quiet times," but in the presence of peace, the ability to be honest when you fail, and a genuine desire to enjoy Him even when no one is watching. It’s about the shift from knowing about God to knowing Him in your unique, messy, and everyday life.

Quote:”Love is not theoretical. It’s active. And Practical."

Question for the reader:Looking back at the start of this book, what is the biggest change in how you feel when you are alone with God?
_____________________________________________________________
Chapter 18- How do I make sure this lasts
-Wong focuses on the concept of "returning." She admits that you will get complicated again, you will pick up masks, and you will get busy. The secret to making it last isn't never failing; it's shortening the time between when you realize you've drifted and when you return to your unique way of enjoying God. It’s about building a "recovery rhythm" rather than a "perfection goal."

Quote: “ We don’t want to be the strongest people in the ring — the ones who tap out early because they didnt make time to rest."

Question for the reader: When you notice yourself becoming "complicated" again, what is the very first "uncomplicated" thing you can do to find your way back?
_____________________________________________________________
Chapter 19- The Best Time
-Wong addresses the human tendency to wait for the "perfect" circumstances to be authentic or to rest. She argues that we often tell ourselves, "I'll uncomplicate things once this project is done, or once the kids are older, or once I feel more 'spiritual.'" This chapter asserts that the best time—the only time—to enjoy God in your own unique way is right now, in the middle of the mess, the noise, and the current complications.

Quote: “ The way to live out your God-givien purpose, to flourish and enjoy the harvest, is to first have a one-on-one relationship with Jesus tha tis real, tended to and cared for. Themission will be accomplished if the mechanics are prepared."

Reader Question: What is the specific "circumstance" you’ve been waiting to change before you feel you can truly enjoy God? What would happen if you invited Him into it today instead?

_____________________________________________________________
Ending and conclusion. Wong has some great resources and questions of her own in the back of the book fyi!
The Permission Slip Every Overwhelmed Soul Needs

If you have ever felt like you’re "bad at being a Christian" because you don’t fit into a specific spiritual mold, this book was written for you. Hosanna Wong has created a 19-chapter roadmap that systematically dismantles the performance-based religion many of us have accidentally built, replacing it with something far more beautiful: authenticity.

What I Loved:

The "Spiritual DNA" Concept: Chapter 3 ("What Am I Made Of") and Chapter 11 ("Personality") were game-changers. Hosanna argues that our quirks and temperaments aren't distractions—they are the very languages God wants to use to connect with us.

Practicality Over Theory: This isn't just "fluff." By the time you hit Chapter 13 ("Personal Structure") and Chapter 14 ("Practical Supports"), you have actual tools to build a lifestyle that sustains your peace rather than draining it.

The Heavy Hitting Chapters: She doesn’t shy away from the hard stuff. The chapters on Grief (Ch 7) and Shame (Ch 8) are handled with incredible empathy. She reminds us that "uncomplicated" doesn't mean "painless"—it means being real in the middle of the pain.

The "Praise-o-nality" Framework: Chapter 12 is a standout. It redefines worship from something that happens in a building on Sundays to a lifestyle of using your unique gifts (art, logic, service, play) to honor the Creator.

The Vibe:

The writing is rhythmic, punchy, and deeply personal. Hosanna shares her own "mask-wearing" moments, which makes the advice feel earned rather than preachy. It reads quickly but stays with you long after you close the back cover.

Final Verdict:

This book is for the person tired of the "hustle" of faith. It’s for the introvert who feels guilty about silence, the extrovert who feels guilty about "too much" energy, and anyone who has been waiting for the "perfect time" to enjoy God.

As Chapter 19 says, the best time is right now. Stop trying to fit into the box someone else built. Read this, uncomplicate your heart, and give yourself permission to play again.

A MUST READ! Uncomplicate It is written for you... (yes, you!): followers of Jesus, those questioning their walk the Lord, those who may be curious about Christ for the first time, or those who may have drifted away from their path.

Hosanna's writing is grounded in God's Word, is Holy Spirit driven, and her realness and empathy make it such a blessing to read! I love her style of writing and find myself laughing out loud or feeling a hug through the words on the pages. She truly is a Light who wants people to know Jesus' perfect love. No matter where you are today, you can take something away from Uncomplicate It.

I have been in and out of church since I was a little girl, but now at 42 I have found myself 4 years into a real relationship with Jesus. Some days I feel Him so close, and some days, I feel like I am distracted, too busy, or not enough. Uncomplicate It has been a literal answered prayer and reminder to how God fearfully and wonderfully made me - all of me!! - even those parts that may seem like roadblocks to connecting with God or things that set me apart from others.

The enemy would like nothing more than to isolate us to push us farther from our Abba Father and our Savior Jesus Christ. But God! Uncomplicate It, along with prayer, has shown me that my personality differences, experiences...the highs and lows, the seasons of life (my soil) ...they are what give me my unique lens in which to view this world and shape my walk with Jesus (as He has always intended!) And the things that bring me joy, that is where I find God, I feel Him with me, and grow in my walk. All of it, with a little shift in my perspective and heart, can be shortcuts to a closer relationship with Jesus, and how I can innately share His Love, Grace, and Light with the world. Uncomplicate It is a tool to help you do that too!

Every time I picked up the book I found myself literally breathing easier, feeling hopeful and having joy in this season again (newly married, a Mama, a Celebrate Recovery leader, a full time paralegal...etc etc). Instead of feeling not enough, or too busy, the words on these pages have helped me realize that God has placed me in these roles for his will to be done, and my life is full (what a blessing!). Full of answered prayers and whispers that my heart once longed for. Praise and Glory to God, Jehovah Jireh.

Another favorite part of my journey through Uncomplicate It was the chapter on Grief. I lost my father to suicide several years ago. Hosanna, and those that she interviewed, showed me that I am not alone in how I have experienced and continue to process my grief, and more importantly, a gentle reminder that grief can be a catalyst to grow in my relationship with the Lord, prayer life, and with my family in Christ. Jehovah Nissi, my refuge and strength.

I will continue sharing my favorite parts of Uncomplicate It with my friends in our community, those in my church, and with my brothers and sisters in Christ. I look forward to reading it with a small group this year and feel like this book ignited a much needed heart shift about how God created me, and in knowing that, how to walk out a real relationship with Jesus.

Thank you Hosanna for your transparency and heart on the pages of Uncomplicate It. Thank you for your faithfulness as a follower of Christ and your dedication to testify, encourage, and lead others in this dark world to the Love and Light of Jesus. Well done!

If you made it this far, do yourself a huge favor and buy a copy of Uncomplicate It. And make the time to read it. Walking with our Lord was never meant to be complicated! Jesus' Love is pursuing you... He is full of grace and mercy, and wants to be with you exactly where you (and who you are!) today. ❤️ ✝️

When I first saw this book, I was like, "I don't need it." Yet I was curious, so I requested it for review. You guys, this is a book that I didn't know I needed! I alternated between savoring it and rushing through it! There are SO many nuggets of wisdom in this book, I have a gazillion things highlighted.

God did not invite you to be in a relationship with Him and then ask you to abandon all the details of the personality He created you with.

This book is well-researched, which is something I REALLY appreciate in nonfiction. I am sure I am not going to do the book justice with my review, but I am certainly going to try.

The only way to have a real relationship with God is to have one with Him in the middle of your real life.

One of the first things the author did before writing this book was to ask a thousand people from around the world about their experiences connecting with God. She asked them two questions: "What has stood in the way of you connecting with God? What is a unique way you have found to connect with God?" Obviously, the author can't share all of the responses from all the participants, but there are many anecdotes shared throughout the book. The author draws on her personal experiences, the answers she received from the participants, the Bible, and two experts in vineyards to craft this book. The result is easily readable and relatable.

Even though Jesus was often moved with compassion and open to distractions, He didn't let everyone's desires and demands derail Him.

This book is not a one-size-fits-all personality. It encourages each reader to look at specific personality traits and use what they learn to worship God. Your traits are going to be different than mine, and we are going to worship God differently, and that is good and right! That is how it is supposed to be. God did not create us all the same, nor does He expect our time with Him to be the same.

The truth? You don't have to edit your prayers.

If you have ever thought you were worshipping wrong, or your relationship with God isn't strong, or your relationship with God is perfect, or any number of things, I highly encourage you to read this book. It's not earth-shattering things, but it is a useful tool to point us toward God and being comfortable in worshipping Him in our own unique abilities and personalities. I can't say enough good things about this book.

Thank you to the author and Thomas Nelson for the opportunity to read this book. I am not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

I love the way she started with talking about vineyards ( I am the vine you are the branches) and goes into this whole idea that a relationship with God is and does vary from person to person and that is ok.
How many times are we in church and we look at someone who is just standing and looking dull and un-interested during worship and automatically assume they dont want to be there or they are not " chrisitian enough or they are "overdoing it". ( talking to myself here) #1 it is not my place nor responsibility to worry about their relationship with God including the posture of their heart. I need to focus on my reltionship with Him. #2 we have been so engrained with this idea that worship or following God has to look a certain way yet we forget that we are all different people with different likes, different learning styles. We dont all have to sing, be artistic, play a instrument to be worthy of a relationship with God. Even if I dont journal about Him everyday or I prefer to listen to the Bible rather than read that does not make my relationship with him any more or less than yours.
This book opened my eyes to these cultural ideas that you have to do X,Y, and Z to really have a relationship with God. You must go to church every Sunday, you have to sing, you have to memorize scripture. And yes while there are certain things that are an absolute must ( Accepting Jesus) the beauty of God is that he wants YOUR personality to shine through with how you talk to him, worship him and ABIDE with him.
she lists several "Prais-onalities" ( how you feel you connect with God the most) that can help you determine were you connect the most.
Loved this book ( truth be told I listened to it on audio) the author narrated it and she did an amazing job!

Reading Uncomplicate It made me think a lot about how many people quietly feel like they are doing faith all wrong.

Not because they don’t love Jesus.
Not because they don’t care.
But because they think they don’t fit the mold they thought they were supposed to fit in.

Hosanna Wong beautifully presents the idea that what we often see as roadblocks in our relationship with Jesus may actually become the very places where we encounter Him most personally. That perspective was really freeing and honestly gave me wild hope.

One of the things I really appreciated was how honestly she talks about the common roadblocks we may experience in our relationship with Him like busyness, distractions, grief, shame, silence, and expectations. I think almost everyone will recognize themselves and their story in at least one of those areas.

Overall, this book is encouraging, practical, and deeply needed for the world we’re living in right now. And I would most definitely say feels less like a list of things to do and more like a permission slip to stop performing, stop comparing, stop hiding, and start having an honest relationship with God in your own real life. And I think it will resonate with a lot of people who love God but feel tired, stuck, or unsure where they fit. It’s an encouraging reminder that a relationship with Him was never meant to be one-size-fits-all.

I would highly recommend that anyone who wants to grow in their faith but feels stuck, intimidated, or unsure where to start, you can start here. The words written on these pages are also a great reminder for long-time believers to come back to the simplicity and beauty of following Jesus.

Thank you to The BDA for providing a review copy. All opinions are my own.

This book has been a gentle invitation to slow down and enjoy God, and to release the pressure that faith must be complicated, performative, or look the same for everyone.

Through vineyards, soil, gaps, and trellises, I was reminded that no two pathways to God are alike—because no two people are alike. We are each created on purpose, with intention, and God delights in meeting us exactly where we are.

What stood out most to me were the so-called roadblocks: busyness, distractions, grief, shame, silence, and expectations. Instead of being barriers, they became opportunities—places where God longs to be invited in. Not after they’re resolved, but right in the middle of them.

I resonated deeply with the chapters on silence, rest, and personality—learning that God speaks and connects with each of us differently. For me, He comes as a still, quiet peace that steadies me even in the storm. That peace has become my discernment, my compass, my home.

This book gently dismantles the idea that we must be “crushing it” to be close to God. Instead, it invites us into wholeness—to be fully ourselves, in all our spaces, seen and loved without striving.

An uncomplicated relationship with God, for me, looks like living in the light. Not free from tribulations, but rooted in complete peace. Abiding. Resting. Allowing fruit to grow naturally from connection.

This book doesn’t offer formulas—it offers freedom. And in that freedom, I’ve been reminded that God is with the real me… and that is where peace lives.

Uncomplicate It shows you it's ok to have faith that looks different than someone else's. Our past combined with our vision for the future shapes who we are and how we experience a relationship with God. The book will help put you at ease if you worry that your faith isn't measuring up to someone else's. Uncomplicate It is filled with ways to help overcome faith roadblocks. One of my faves is on busyness.

I chuckled when I read, "You're Not a Cat; You Don't Have Multiple Lives." Thinking it is funny at the truth of this, but quickly let it go when I expected to reprimanded shortly after. To my surprise, a new perspective on busy with what God called us to do is what came next.

Hosanna says regarding a season of being with her brother in the hospital as much as possible during a busy speaking schedule. "If I was indeed busy, I was busy doing what God had called me to do. So instead of saying I was busy–which sometimes implies a person isn't present or is distracted and overwhelmed–I started to say I was full. I was full of being faithful in the land where God had placed me. Sometimes I was distracted and overwhelmed, for sure, but I would not define that season of my life as too busy to encounter God. Instead, I now see how I was full of encountering God in an entirely new way. I was not pulled away by busyness. When I chose to bring God into my experiences and see them from His perspective, I was brought even closer to Him through fullness."

I am full is now a phrase I will carry with me and use when I start to think I am too busy and not doing enough.

If faith and church got too complicated for you and you’re ready to enjoy God in the perfectly unique way He made you, this is your book! Or if you don’t even know if God is real or personal, this is your book! And if you’re looking for freedom and fresh ways to encounter Him even if you’ve known him a long time, this is your book!

“Uncomplicate It” released me from unrealistic expectations & led me to learn really FUN ways I was actually made to connect with God-all the things I sometimes felt guilty for because they didn’t look like everyone else’s expression of faith.
I can’t emphasize enough how FUN it was learning all the different ways different people connect with God, including myself and how to overcome the things that get in the way of knowing him more.

The entire book was incredibly practical for me right now at this moment in my life and in this specific season of my spiritual journey AND I can see how it would’ve been incredibly practical and freeing in every other season of my journey.

I love how Hosanna weaves her life story (as well as stories of ONE THOUSAND people she had conversations with) into the message in a way that helps identify the big questions we ALL wrestle with in life even though our experiences are individually unique. This one is going on my book shelf as a resource to consult in EVERY season of life. I’m ready for the Great Uncomplicating!

I was blessed to be part of the launch team for Hosanna Wong’s new book, Uncomplicate It, releasing early next week. I first heard Hosanna speak a few years ago, when she shared a powerful teaching on the vine and branches, and the need for a trellis. That message has stayed with me ever since, so seeing it expanded as a central theme in this book felt both grounding and deeply encouraging.

If I had to summarize my experience reading Uncomplicate It in one word, it would be freedom. Freedom to discover my own unique connection with God, to explore my relationship with Jesus more deeply, and to embrace a faith that doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. Hosanna also gives us permission to join the “not crushing it” club. AMEN! As she writes, “The call to be complete is not a call to crush it. It is a call to be with Jesus and to receive wholeness, completeness, and nonfragmentedness from God.”

Another big ah ha moment for me came from this line: “But first I want to free you from the lie that you have two lives: Your God Life. Your real life. The only way to have a real relationship with God is to have one with Him in the middle of your real life.” That truth has stayed with me and genuinely shifted how I think about walking with God in my everyday life.

I highly recommend this book. I’m excited to read it again with my faith sisters and spend time discovering what brings my soul to life and how God has uniquely designed me to connect with Him.

This book by Hosanna Wong is a gem!

The author (Wong) immerses the reader in story from the start in a way that draws them into this 19-chapter journey through the pages of her real-life experiences as she grew to know God in a personal way. Her storytelling skills are second to none and powerful too because these events that she describes in her book actually happened in life. It is not a fiction story. While fiction has its place, in this case the scenes can impact the reader on a deeper level because it is very relatable.

Wong's words on each page encourage the reader to dive deeper in their own walk with God. She is a good guide in your faith journey. She patiently answers your questions about God and shows you that not only does He want a relationship with you (the REAL you, not the one you pretend to be); God wants you to know that a relationship with Him doesn't have to be complicated.

Throughout this book, Wong doesn't only tell the reader how to uncomplicate their approach to and relationship with God; she shows them! This helps the reader know basic steps to take to get to know God for themselves in a real way that will resonate with them deeply.

I believe this book is a wonderful teaching tool for everyone who will take the time to read it. The messages within are helpful for people at all levels of their faith journey and from all walks of life.

Very interesting book!
It wasn’t quite what I was expecting overall. The part about the different styles of connecting with God was a relatively small section of the book. Not to say the other sections were bad, just not what I was expecting.

I am going to go out on a limb and say Wong hasn’t read Gary Thomas’s book Sacred Pathways since her book didn’t mention it at all, but I find it interesting that the lists of different Praise-o-nalities as she calls them (Thomas calls them Sacred Pathways).
If you found her system interesting, I recommend you check out his book as well to see another take on it, and how they compare! They both have slightly different takes on it and unique things they bring to the conversation.
Wong came up with 7 types, while Thomas had 9. As you’ll see below, 5 of them line up very well, 1 of Wong’s Thomas split into two, 1 they defined differently enough that I call them “related” rather than “equivalent”, and 1 Thomas had that Wong did not have represented in her list (I think).
They even put them in almost the same order in their book (with a few exceptions)

Here’s my equivalency analysis—since no one asked XD
Format for my list: Praise-0-nality = Sacred Pathway

The Recreationalist = Naturalist
The Beholder of Beauty = Sensate
The Soul Fire = Enthusiast (his definition was a bit broader here, though)
The Sacred Space Seeker = Traditionalist
The Interior Expert = Ascetics / Contemplatives
The Thought Smith = Intellectuals
The Artist of People ~ Caregivers (this one feels less equivalent to me, more related)
And one last Sacred Pathway that Wong didn’t mention: Activist

I really enjoyed the book!
I will say that I really related to Part 2 with the Roadblock section. From distractions, to emotions like grief or shame, to even a silence from God being stated as a challenge that thousands relate to, I would state that this book was very mind-provoking and brought me closer to the very presence of Jesus.
I love how Hosanna brings her perspective to a passage in Scripture from within John 4. Four excuses, aka roadblocks, are given from a woman at a well. Jesus invites her to look past these and come into faith with Him. After talking with Jesus, she soon evangelizes to a whole town!
I recommend others to buy this book due to the very real, individual, and imperfect human element it emphasizes. No one's walk with God is the same on the narrow road, but they are all unique and special. As I heard once, God loves us despite the way we are. His Word is the ultimate love letter to the Church.
Thank you for all the many readers (and author) that shared this experience, variety of perspectives, and stories of faith with me. I am very grateful!!! I know I am a bit biased 😊

Hosanna Wong's exceptional new book, Uncomplicate It: Permission to Enjoy God in Your Unique Way, is a wonderful read that takes Hosanna's own Bible study and stories from a thousand people, to help readers understand how they can relate to God. Understanding that God made each one of us with special gifts, talents, and abilities, and how we relate to Him Scripturally but also from our own individual human selves.

She uses what she has learned about vineyards to help us understand what it means to abide in Christ, while we are the branches, He is the vine, and God is the vinedresser. I learned as I read this new ways that I can abide in Jesus; how I can live from a place of rest in Him; and how I can use what He's placed in me to love Him and love others.

I highly recommend this book! I loved every minute of it. Encouraging, instructive, and truly a joy.

I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions shared here are my own honest ones.

This wonderfully written book by Hosanna Wong is both challenging and engaging, while remaining deeply practical in its invitation for the reader to enjoy God in their own unique way—just as God intended.

My word of the year for 2026 is Abide, with John 15 as the main chapter I’m studying and engaging with this year. When I picked up this book, I had no idea I would get to journey alongside Hosanna as she explored this very word. Her writing feels intentional and is deeply rooted in Scripture, paired with thoughtful questions and practical challenges that invite the reader to engage in a personal and meaningful way.

It’s no coincidence that the first book I read this year is Uncomplicate It. This is only a small glimpse of how God has spoken to me through Hosanna’s words. I could write so much more about this book and how the Lord has used it in my life—but my words wouldn’t do it justice.

So I truly recommend picking it up for yourself, going on the journey, and maybe even joining the Not Crushing It club—trust me, you’ll have to read the book to join ;)

Uncomplicate It was exactly the message my heart needed. 💛

This book is such a refreshing and freeing reminder that our relationship with God doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s—or even like it did in a different season of our lives. Hosanna Wong beautifully unpacks what Scripture actually says about connecting with God and gently challenges the pressure, comparison, and performance that so many of us carry.

What I loved most is how personal and grace-filled this book feels. It doesn’t add more to your spiritual to-do list. Instead, it gives you permission to slow down, breathe, and enjoy God in the unique way He created you to. That perspective alone feels life-giving.

If you’ve ever struggled with feeling like you’re “not doing enough,” or that your faith doesn’t measure up, this book will meet you with encouragement and truth. It’s simple, powerful, and deeply reassuring.

Highly recommend to anyone longing for a more genuine, uncomplicated walk with God.

This book truly opened my eyes to what it means to pursue a more authentic relationship with God. It challenged me to reflect honestly on where I am in my faith and where I need to grow. Rather than making faith feel distant or complicated, the author offers practical insight that meets you wherever you are in your spiritual journey.

One of the things I appreciated most is how the book speaks to different stages of faith. Whether you feel close to God or are struggling to reconnect, the message is encouraging and relatable. It provides thoughtful guidance and practical advice on how to intentionally cultivate a deeper, more meaningful relationship with Him.

Overall, this book is both inspiring and grounding. It gently encourages self-reflection while offering clear steps to help strengthen your walk with God. I would recommend it to anyone who desires a more genuine, intentional relationship with their faith.

Between information overload from what we've learned and the pressure of our own minds, it can seem easier to find ways to fill every second of the day with anything other than God. I absolutely love the way Hosanna helps us find our way to connect with our Father where we are and how we are wired. She is always a beautiful and relatable storyteller, and the rhythm she brings to her spoken word pieces comes out in this book. There is an ease and flow to its thought and approach that makes it such a great read.

I especially enjoyed the concept of Praise-o-nalities and how we can find unique ways to worship, but with a sweet dose of caution to also value the wirings of the gifts of others to be healthy through community.

Anyone who took the time to interview 1,000 people for their message deserves a read, and this is no exception!

I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. Hosanna Wong has written another Biblically Sound and Encouraging Book.

I can personally say that many times throughout my Christian walk I have felt that I needed to "do more" to grow in my faith. "Uncomplicate It" shows that we many times make things difficult and allow roadblocks to get in the way of growing and connecting with God. There are many who believe that we have to be "uniform" with other Christians, when we all have different ways and levels of connecting to God. Unique and FREEDOM is how we can all connect and live out our Christian Faith. I have always been one not to follow trends and what others do around me in my everyday life, this book taught me to also do that for connecting with God. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who feels they want to connect with God more deeply and uniquely! GREAT BOOK!

Hosanna Wong has beautifully woven words together that give us permission to step out of spiritual routines and rhythms that feel fruitless, those that no longer produce growth or lasting transformation in our lives. Her message invites us into freedom, helping us untangle beliefs we’ve carried that may not reflect what Jesus truly said or intended.

She brings us back to the main thing: being with Jesus in a personal, authentic relationship. Just as every relationship on earth is unique because each person is different, so it is with our relationship with Him. Hosanna reminds us that we don’t have to strive for perfection or try to look like everyone else in our faith. Instead, she invites us to exchange that pressure for something far more beautiful, an uncomplicated, deeply personal walk with Jesus.

Just wow. You ever overcomplicate something that turns out being pretty simple? Yes we all have. This book changed my perspective on exactly how God wants to meet each of us and how He delights in getting to know us, uniquely how we are. Hosanna breaks things down so eloquently yet anyone can grasp the concepts. It’s for the seasoned saint, for the person questioning their faith, for someone who is just curious about God in general. It’s practical, there are stories interwoven from conversations she had with 1,000 different people and there’s lots of humor. Once I started the book it was hard to put down and it’s the type of book you highlight or write little things in the margins to come back to as you gain nuggets of wisdom. I can’t praise this book enough!

This book is life changing...I can not recommend it enough!!!
I can't even begin to thank you, Hosanna Wong, for allowing God to use to show me I was stuck in shame. I have always lived with chronic pain in back and neck for as long as I can remember with no relief from anything! Monday I had a two hour therapy session. It was intense. But I noticed after leaving the pain was completely gone!!! I have noticed my prayer life is much more vibrant that it has ever been.
Thank you for giving me permission to exchange the pain and shame for forgiveness and grace.
I can't wait to see you in San Antonio!!

I highly recommend this book!!! Reading it has been such a breath of fresh air. It has helped break off so much shame/lies about what I thought I should be doing as a Christian. Instead, Hosanna points us to Scripture and how Jesus lived to show us the practical ways we can uncomplicate our faith and live our day-to-day lives with Him.

There were so many times while reading this that I just felt like a pressure released and I could breathe again, especially during the roadblock chapters. I also really liked the example of the trellis.

This book is amazing! If you feel like faith is too complicated lately, I would definitely give this book a read!
