Ruin wakes up on Earth knowing only one thing: to Judge and Execute.
As an Angel of Judgment with no memory of his origins and no ability to communicate, he binds molecularly with Isadore, the first human he comes into contact with.
Bestselling Author, Lucian Bane, dominates his spin on the popular Paranormal Romance genre, quickly becoming one of the many masters that rock our beloved book world.
I’m a husband and author, and I may be a little religious about both. I like writing hot sex and encapsulating it in the delicate white silk of devotion, commitment, and psychotic obsession.
Soooooo... I've been reading this "Ruin" series by Lucian Bane. You know the one..., the "ineffable Dom"? What evs (rolls eyes). This guy who is supposedly a real life Dom-cum-Erotica-writer (and fyi, I'm talking the Latin word cum as in dual role, not the OTHER cum that he writes about, seemingly, incessantly).
Anyway, I won't judge his entire writing career nor his personal beliefs based on this one series, but there is def something weird that's kinda wigging me out about this dude and his writing.
Maybe it's the off-putting duality of his writing, putting God and Finger-Fucking (or insert nearly any other erotic act here) in the same paragraph while insinuating that one is somehow linked to or acceptable within the same set of beliefs. I can't explain it. It's weird. Here I'll try:
It's like the whole concept of Genesis 2:24 & 25 "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed."
And Matthew 19:5 & 6 " And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder."
(Side note, I don't know if my Grandmother would be proud or ashamed of my Bible recall in this instance...)
It's like these passages were the basis for his justification of inserting religion into my erotica reading. Thanks, but no thanks. I don't want to think that while the hero is giving the protagonist the best head of her life and she's moaning, "Oh, God... Oh, God, YES!!" that God is actually listening and looking down with an affable, fatherly expression going, "Very nice, this is exactly what I meant by cleaving...carry on youngsters." Especially when the two aren't legally married in a church.
Oh, I know, it's erotica...and I'm not being a Mary Sue, here (I've read Ann Rice's Sleeping Beauty trilogy, and any lingering Mary Sue thoughts or tendencies were permanently seared, through my corneas, from my psyche, forever and ever. Amen)..Anyway, I'm not trying to be prudish but if you're going to put God and Religion as the basis for your moral foundation and bring Him up repeatedly, I need you to be married for me to believe that God condones the extramarital porn hijnks these two are up to. And the dude (spoiler alert) is an Angel??!! Def need a priest here, stat.
Anyway, the heroine (and I use that term verrra loosely to describe the female protagonist), is annoying as fuck. If she were real life, I'd probably set her on fire because she's that super stupid. Her stupidity literally fills volumes. I hate her more with every passing page. Her stupid should have a cape with an emblem and a bat signal. It's that super. The hero (who actually isn't that terribly written of a character) had my pity through out all three and a half books I've read today. I'm FORCING myself to finish the 4th and final volume just because I need to see if this female has any redeeming value.
Jesus, this author either wants me to hate her and is a genius (although, I can't see what purpose that would serve in the story arc..., I think I'm supposed to like her or at least feel sorry for her?)... or he so poorly understands women IRL, that he should just jump to M/M Christian erotica and never, EVER write another female character EVER... EVER!!!! NEVER, ever!!!
The story itself is pretty interesting,I guess. I didn't hate it. Kind of Armageddon, End Of Days prophesy shit with Angels and Demons and Grim Reaper and what not.. it's not terrible conceptually.
I'm kind of in Love with one of the side characters, Scriber, who should get his own series where the author co-writes with someone who knows how to write a fucking woman's POV, and I'd read that shit all day long.
But the "thing" that's, I think, most annoying to me about this author is, I get this feeling that he thinks that he's imparting some vast knowledge and secret wisdom about God and Carnality to his readers through this story and that it's meant to be allegorical, to be deciphered for a deeper meaning and to challenge your precepts of good and evil or something. Look dude, Mr LUCIAN BANE, Dante Alighier you are NOT... and this is certainly not his Inferno. Get over yourself.
Anyway, 2.5 stars...would have given it 3.5 if not for the "heroine". Read at the risk of your sanity.
Lucian has done it again!! This entire series thus far has been Amazing.... He will pull you in from the Waking to the Judgment and still leave you wanting more. From the bantering between Ruin & Isadore to the jealousy Ruin feels towards any man that looks Isadore's way.
Isadore is a kind, loving, but yet a lying individual who has her quirks like you wouldn't believe. Ruin is an angel of execution who is confused and doesn't know what he should be feeling; especially what his feelings are towards Izzy. Together they will see and learn a lot.
This series will leave you speechless and on the edge of your seat waiting to see where this author takes the characters next.
Why have I never read anything from this author before???
Excellent series! Not quite as dark as other dark, erotics I so love but this series is very good. I absolutely loved Ruin; Isadore did progressively irritate me as the series went on with her constant reluctance to "give in". Aside from that, I found the storyline quite interesting, refreshingly different and I did love the dark/paranormal elements. The supporting characters and the entire plot concept was truly unique and look forward to finishing the series. I will definately read more from this author.
Awful. It ended on a cliffhanger and I. Do. Not. Care. I won't be reading the next set, I barely made it through this! Isadore has to be the worst character I've ever read. Author take note: if you have a character with weird or annoying habits make them a LIKEABLE character so when they are having their nervous breakdown you want to see them get through it. Several times I hoped for isadore to die just so I could stop hearing about her ridiculous need to not"sin" and be "loved". I mean. Who writes a f*going romance book where the characters get all hot and heavy and the female character (NO ONE would call her a heroine!) Halts everything to ask him if he loves her and wants to marry her and when his dumb a$$ says NO they fight and no sex is had. Kill me now.
I usually HATE serials... I am LOVING Ruin! It's an interesting story I like the characters... well Izzy is getting a little annoying, but I guess that is part of her charm. I have had a seriously difficult time putting my Kindle down since starting this box set and now I am completely hooked and looking forward to the rest of the series! Very Well Done Mr. Bane! Highly recommend to my PNR lovers out there who like their romance a little on the dirty side ;)
this was the first time I had read this author and all I can say is WHY did I wait so long. A great series I cant wait to finish with characters that seem to literally step off the page and wind there way into your heart.
Oh my goodness I loved this so much! This series had a great flow with the perfect tidbits of information revealed along the way to make this entirely perfect and unique story. The character dialogue is intelligent. There is an interesting commentary on the damage caused by sexual abuse. Everything about this is so freaking cool. I cannot leave out the fact that Lucian Bane is just a master at a love scene, there is nothing like it. If you’re already familiar with Lucian Bane I would say it is Scribbler guardian meets Dom Wars in the very best way you could possibly imagine. I just loved it!
This book series is all consuming. I can't stop thinking what just happened? How is the Author going to make this work? Once you start the first book you will fall in love with Ruin and Isadore, she is a sarcastic little firecracker and Ruin is lost with no memory of who or what he is. Mr. Bane, I am totally blown away by your mind and imagination.
WOW! These are the first Lucian Bane books I've read, they will not be the last. This series is intense, emotional, funny, well, it has something for everyone. So much I want to say but not without giving spoilers, so I'll leave this with saying I highly recommend the Ruin Series.
This is a series of books that I put off, being a little outside my normal reading. Lucian Bane has presented me with fabulous reading. Now, I wish I would have read them sooner!!
Sometimes you read a book and you think, "That was really good! I really liked that story." Sometimes it's just OK, or even not so good. But then, every once in a while, you read a book that, as soon as you finish it, you just sit with the book in your lap and think, "WOW!!!!! That book was amazing!". This is one of those! I couldn't just finish it then flip to the page to write a review. No, I had to stare out the window, drinking my coffee, and just ponder what I was feeling and why. This story definitely takes your thought process beyond what's written on the pages! If you haven't started this series yet, you are missing out on an amazingly unique story!
The story opens with a description of Isadore, a self-sufficient, quirky neuroscientist from Boston, who is living in a home that she has inherited in the swamps of Louisiana. It seems to be a good place to hide from a crazy ex. Her life pretty much consists of obsessively mopping her floors with Pine Sol, tending to her crawfish traps, and helping her neighbors. Isadore is lovable from the first paragraph of the story. Events take place that lead Ruin, an unworldly but beautiful specimen of a man, to enter Isadore's life. Although apprehensive, she agrees to help Ruin learn the basics of living in a mortal world, including mastering the language, which proves to be quite hilarious at times! Fire and ice are the key components of their relationship, both literally and figuratively. As Ruin discovers his destiny of being a judge and executor of wicked humans, Isadore finds herself drawn to him and yet she consistently challenges him at every turn, something Ruin finds himself attracted to, but shared sexual desires become complicated by morality.
Mr. Bane has drawn me into this story deeply, and has left me with unanswered questions. While I was reading, I kept looking at the number of pages left to read, hoping desperately that it would not end before my questions were answered. Thankfully I am able to move onto Book 4, Ruin: The Turning. I absolutely highly recommend this book to all readers, regardless of whether or not you like paranormal. Thank you, Lucian, for a highly-entertaining, thought-provoking, emotion-wrenching, laughter-evoking, adrenaline-releasing, sensual story!!
I put off starting this series for some time now, because it just honestly didn't sound like the type of storyline I would enjoy or get into. BUT...I haven't read anything yet by Lucian Bane that I didn't love, so I finally broke down and read it. Let me just say, I am so glad I did!! This series revolves around Ruin, an angel sent to Judge and Execute. But, there's a twist, for some reason, he has amnesia and doesn't really understand who he is, why he's here, or what he's supposed to do. On top of that, he bonded with Isadore, a human female who has quite a few quirks and issues of her own to work out. These two characters were fascinating, and fun to watch as their relationship develops! He has quite a jealous streak, even if he doesn't understand why, she has very strong beliefs and convictions which trouble them both a few times, as well as some OCD tendencies which include lots of mopping with Pine Sol!! Along the way we also meet a couple other fascinating characters....I loved Scriber!
Once I started this, I couldn't put it down, and the 3rd book ends with quite the cliffhanger, so I'm going to wrap up my review now so I can go read book 4 and find out what happens! Well done, yet again, Mr Bane! Loved it!!
Ruin was sent to Earth to Judge and Execute. What he didn't expect was to be molecularly bonded to a human being such as Isadore.
I hesitated picking up this series long ago but now wonder why I didn't read it then. Ruin was absolutely wonderful. He has a refreshing mind, seeing things that were normal to me but yet, it wasn't for him. There were moments where I couldn't help myself and gave in to outwardly laughing in public, which gave me weird stares for said public. Oh, the fight scenes were great!
As for Isadore, I was in a love-hate relationship with her. I love her here, I hate her there but overall, she's tolerable enough for me to wish the best between her and Ruin. And she made me rethink what Love was too.
It got on my nerves at how child-like Ruin was at the start of book 2. That...that nice-ness too. It was so weird! I almost screamed at wanting the Ruin from book 1 back. That cliffy at the end of book 3 was the icing on the cake. How could you, Mr Bane?? I knew things won't go as planned when it comes to Lucian Bane writing it. As if my experience with his other series didn't tell me that.
I love paranormal stories and this series looked like it would be just up my alley.
I finished the book so that's a plus. Will I read the next? No. Even though the last book had a really big cliffhanger, I'm still not interested enough to find out what happens.
I'd like to say the story had promise but to be honest I'm not sure where it started, where it went or where it plans to go. I spent a lot of time rereading passages because I just didn't understand what was going on. It was really confusing for me.
Here's a (not part of the book) example of how it was for me...The girl was continuously tossing a round object of color into the air. Ok, that could be a blue ball or a pink balloon. It's not until you have read another two paragraphs before you realize it's a penny.
I liked Ruin. His character was fascinating to me. Isadore, not so much. For a woman with so many degrees, she seemed awful stupid. Her character constantly grated on my nerves.
I also bought the Dom Wars series. I truly hope they are written better and are more intersting than this series.
I have read this series several times and each time I fall in love with the characters all over. Lucian Bane knows how to bring the BOOM when he writes a book and he did not fail with this series. Bane will have you wrapped up in this story line so fast you will not know what hit you and leave you wanting more. He captures his audiences with his humor, heart and hard work he puts into each and every one of his books. This paranormal romance is one of the best I have ever read, and I love paranormal romance. Once again, he has worked magic wonderfully on the words and created a phenomenally beautiful romance
I love Ruin! One of my favorites from Lucian Bane.
Ruin would not let me stop reading him. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started and boy did I get more than I ever thought I would.
Ruin and Isadore story is a different type PNR and one you must read. Watching Ruin and Isadore grow together was such a wonderful thing. Isadore is full of quirks and Ruin doesn't know how to act after forming a bond to her. This set is all you could expect in a PNR read with love, laughter, hot sex and anger.
RUIN 1-3 I truly enjoyed reading this! Honestly I didn't know if I would but I proved myself wrong. I loved how the story began and upon reading it, I was drawn in more and more. I love reading books that have a different twist to them, not knowing where it's going but taking that journey with them. When a writer can grab you and take you away into another world..well that's why I like to read. I highly recommend it!
I loved Ruins thinking when Isadore brought him to church. Because it was sad but so true on so many levels. I LOVED how she was lying all the time to be nice. The sex scenes were hotttttt. Their bantering is hilarious. I really loved how Mr. Bane put the Christian truth with his writing. This is one of the best books I've ever read. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely loved this 3 box series, fantastic storyline and characters. Based around Ruin, who turns out to be like an angel, whose job is to judge and execute, but whilst on earth needs someone to balance him out. Isadore is the woman who lives in the swamps, and ends up being Ruin's link and needs to learn everything and anything from her. Hot sexy scenes and brilliant characters with a story that you just can't put down. A must read.
Wow! Loved this series can't wait for more. This is one of those stores that has you guessing and unable to put it down. Well at least it was for me. Lucian really has a way with words and plays into every visual aspect you could think of. It had my attention the whole time. Never a dull moment. I'm ready for more! A definite must read!
This box set takes you through the evolution of a hero and the growth of a relationship. The events that take place are raw but bring you closer to the characters. My favorite theme of this book set is love and what it does or does not mean.
A spellbinding tale of two lovers as old as time, on a journey to save mankind. Fall in love with each of the characters, laugh and cry along side them as they discover themselves as well as fighting for what is right and just.
Deliciously delivered to you by the amazing penmanship of Lucian Bane who's works will never disappoint.
I purchased the box set thinking it was the entire series...my only disappointment is that it is not. The storyline and characters in this series are unique and entertaining!
This is box set of the first 3 books we find Ruin and Isadore coming face to face with each other. Ruin is an angel of sorts come to earth to understand but in the process finds Isadore and can't understand his attraction ti her. The have a few visits from more heavenly angels and Ruin continues his assignments. This group of books had me guessing at ever turn as to what was going to happen next. I couldn't put it down. I fully recommend this series to all my friends. Can't wait to read book 4. Absolutely outstanding work. 5 stars.
These books are so amazing!!! Emotions go up and down! It's so intense and really pulls at your heart. Wow!!! The characters are amazing. Sometimes you want to just shake them. And then you want to cuddle and kiss them. Please read these.you won't regret it.
