I'm an Alien and I Want to Go Home

Rate this book
Daniel has nothing in common with his family or classmates and has only two friends. He feels so alienated that he might as well be an alien. When he learns that his mom has saved a newspaper clipping about a meteor that landed nearby on his birthday, he embraces his alien heritage and launches a mission to return to his home planet. Despite mishaps, mixups, and a crisis at every turn, Daniel and his mission team—friends Eddie and Gordon the geek—energetically pursue their goal. But when Mom and Dad are drawn into danger as a result, Daniel may have to rethink his plan. This is a fast-paced illustrated page-turner with a laugh on every page.

First of all, thank you NetGalley for supplying me an e-copy of this awesome book!!!

All I have to say is that this is a perfect book for the reluctant reader in your life, especially if it is a boy. Daniel's sister is so much like my middle daughter, and his "Random Mood Generator" is hysterical! There is so much to love about this book. There is bathroom humor, sibling mayhem, and some crazy antics...you really will find yourself laughing a lot! The illustrations are fun too. When is Jo Franklin going to write another book? I will buy that book!!!

"In I'm An Alien and I Want to Go Home Jo Franklin does a much better job with both humor and humor that's integrated into story. This is one of those child outsider stories, in this case taken to an extreme. And, yet, for an "alien" story, it is very grounded in reality. The resolution here is one that makes sense and is reached in a logical way."

started reading this book and it starts out talking about his parents meeting on a nude beach and him being nude in the shower. I thought this was supposed to be targeted for kids.

This book is targeted at boys who feel like they don't fit in anywhere. For Daniel, the narrator, that includes his family. When his older sister tells him he is an alien ( because of his unnatural tallness), he begins to believe her. Then when he discovers that the family photo album has no baby pictures of him, and instead includes a newspaper clipping about a meteor crashing locally on his birthday, Daniel is convinced that he is indeed an alien. He enlists his two best friends to help him return to Kepler 22B, his supposed home planet, and the chaos begins! While I found this novel silly and at times offensive, readers ages 8 -12 might enjoy the humor and ridiculous antics of Daniel and his friends. For this reason, I suggest it as an additional purchase for school and public libraries.

This is the most margarine kids book I've read in ages. It was cute and all but not even slightly memorable.

Basic premise: A plot twist or two would have been nice. This is another one of those books in search of an editor.

I recieved this book as a FirstReads giveaway (which makes me feel bad for not liking it more).

What happens when the middle child in the family looks different from everyone else? What happens when the older sister tells him he is not her brother and that he came from outer space? When that boy thinks he does not fit in anywhere, even in his family, he believes he is from outer space. Daniel, better known as Bean enlists the help of his two friends, one a genius, to help build a communicator to "phone home". A silly story where Daniel realizes that he loves his family and they love him and he does not want to go anywhere. At the same time he realizes what a good friend he has in Gordon the Geek. A cute read with some cute drawings to illustrate the story.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a story about a middle child who thinks he is an alien and does not belong to his family. He has an older sister who he believes has a random mood generator; the settings are psycho bossy and mega mean. He has only two friends, Eddie and Gordon the Geek.
This book is not my favorite but I know many of my students will like it particularly Captain Underpants fans. They will like the bathroom humor and the very odd parents. The first page of the book sets the tone by saying the parents say they met at a nudist beach. The dad thinks their address is boring so he names the house Konnichiwa, which means hello in Japanese, which he thinks as cool. Okay book for many readers but truthfully it is not my style.

Though this book seemed a bit silly and over the top I think it will play well with the age group for which it is intended.A boy convinced he actually is an alien looks for an escape plan with the help of his two best friends. ####I won this book through goodreads in exchange for an unbiased review######

I really liked this book in concept though it fell apart a little in the end and suffered from stupid parenting... Fun read overall!
