Book 1 of the Burkheart Witch saga. A short story. When Kayla embarks on a drive from Washington to Texas, she is just doing her job. When the black 1967 Impala starts showing up at every turn, she starts to think it might be more than coincidence. When the mysterious driver leaves her a note, she is engulfed in a race for her life. Kayla is tasked with defeating vampires, werewolves and evil witches that threaten to destroy her happiness and her very life! Will she get her happily ever after, or will she fall victim to the evil that courses through her veins? Red Snow is an urban retelling of a classic fairy tale. A short story.
So in my recent spat of reading Kindle free erotica (I consider it a study), this popped up. I'm not sure why. It's dark, there are adult themes (there is a werewolf scene that is attempted rape/murder), but it's actually pretty good. I'm not sure if I will pay for the sequel, but this volume was rather good with detail and character development.
This is a short story that introduces us to Kayla, a recovering drug user and alcoholic. She is trying to better herself and has taken a job as a car salesperson. Her adventure begins when she drives a 1965 Corvette from Washington to Texas…doing it without any damage! Right there you know this is going to be a fun story! The characters are introduced and immediately I hate her mother! She is always putting Kayla down and you just want to strangle this woman!!! We also meet Kayla’s recovering alcoholic boyfriend who in my opinion from the brief intro to him…leaves something to be desired but…I will leave judgment after reading the next book where I hope to see more of him and get a handle on him. This seems like it will be a good series and can’t wait to read the next book to see where Kayla will end up next! So…if you are looking for a short story that is a light…quick read then I would definitely recommend Red Snow!
This is short story that I initially found interesting in which the main character, Kayla, is driving along Route 66 to deliver a classic car and runs into a supernatural problem. Unfortunately the rest of this read was just too confusing. I also took a strong dislike to all of the characters who couldn't complete a thought without cursing.
I got this book thinking it was a complete story. Not a story that was going to end so abruptly after a few chapters. I am really disappointed.. I wish authors would quit this.
The story line was good. Had me hooked from the first couple of pages. I will not be reading any more of this "series" unless it is the complete book.
I was hoping this series would be good, but the basic plot was lacking elements of real world authenticity. Also, the choice of detailing what the main character eats along her road trip was unimportant and distracting. It was also too short.
I'm interested. The story premise is promising if you can overlook a couple "magical" plot holes (never noticed a third bedroom? really?). I'm a little confused as to why this is a separately published novel. I have a physical copy with prequel and books 1&2. Prequel and "Book 1" weigh in at a whopping 55 pages combined. I think this would have been better as a single stand alone novel. More thoughts after I finish #2.
I really didn’t feel connected to any character in the story, but I did enjoy it quite a bit, I’m definitely going to check out more from this author and I recommend this book it’s pretty awesome
An Urban Fiction Novel.... not really, not a whole novels worth of words here.
I loved the title, the cover art, and I thought the book had a great plot. This was a short, short story that should have been developed into a full book. The story line was exciting and interesting.
This would have been an excellent book if the author had added a LOT more to the story to make the book longer. From the cover art alone I expected a much longer and well developed book. it left me feeling like the cover art was wasted on such a short/undeveloped story..... pity.
The book went too fast. and gave you everything in too short a time... like boom, boom,boom... left me wanting 200 pages more.
Downloaded this for free on my kindle. At first I thought it was a full book and was interested in the premise. But when I found out it's a short story I got bummed. I know there are more "books" involving this character and I'm almost tempted to keep reading but I'm not sure if I'm sold. I think if it was a full book with more details and insight I'd keep going but the few chapters didn't say much about the characters to make me want to know more and it seemed rushed. Kudos though for the Supernatural references with the black Impala and the Kansas song. I do want to mention though that the writing was good.
A little short for my tastes and it didn't go into enough detail about some things but overall a book I don't regret reading. Am actually contemplating buying the second book and reading it before I make a final decision about whether or not I like this author. I definitely learned not to go by reviews as to whether or not to read a book. This first few reviews I read were actually bad and only one star. They almost made me avoid this book but I decided to give it a chance and decide for myself and I'm glad I did. It isn't as bad as the reviews led me to believe. It has quite the interesting story line and intrigued me enough to want to read more.
What a great short story. I’ve definitely found a new author in Ms. Sutton, that I would enjoy reading regularly.
This book didn’t disappoint. I enjoyed this short story about Kayla a young woman trying to get her life back on track. She’s hired to drive a car across a few state lines and ends up meeting the Big Bad Wolf.
Ms Sutton writing style keeps you on the edge of your seat. You’re right beside Kayla and can feel her panic as the hidden driver in the black as night car follows her.
I really enjoyed this short shorty . I could not put it down keep wanting to know what was going on. And how this creepy guy is thats falling her. Now that im done with it i HAVE to go to book 2 and know what is going on. I need to find out who every one is , what her mom is doing So love this twist on the fairy tale
Too, short for my taste. You just start to get your bearings and the whole thing speeds up and is over. Like getting punched in the face and the attacker disappearing into thin air, leaving you on the ground wondering what the hell just happened.
An okay quick read of the classic fairytale, told from a modern point of view. I do think it could have been developed a little more despite it being a short, although the writing style was quite good and fast paced.
Paranormal with witches, drug addiction and werewolves. Very short but a good taste of the series. Creative writing and well-developed characterization. Adult readers due to violence.
A great start to what is surely going to be a wonderful saga! I wish it was a bit longer but it was a great set up for the next installment! I really enjoyed the fairytales aspect
