The Honeymoon Hijackers

Rate this book
What family wedding doesn’t involve a bit of drama? But when Sasha Malone attends her cousin's nuptials, she gets a bit more than she bargained for. When both brides abandon the wedding, Sasha gets roped in to accompany her broken-hearted cousin on what should have been her honeymoon aboard a swanky yacht around the Mediterranean. So far, so not-so-bad. But when Sasha’s cousin doesn’t turn up for the voyage without a word of warning, Sasha is left setting sail all alone and none the wiser.

But the shocks keep coming.

Aboard the boat is another person who isn’t supposed to be there. The other bride’s sister, Josie Adler, has snuck aboard the boat posing as her sibling – determined to take advantage of a fancy (not to mention free) trip. When the boat's crew mistakenly believe that both women are the original and intended honeymooners, Sasha, thinking she’s already accidentally committed a crime by going on the trip without her cousin, panics and assumes her cousin’s identity.

Now both of them are lying. And if they stop, they could be in serious trouble.

Sasha is stuck on the boat with Josie with no choice but to play the happy honeymooners or get arrested for stealing the trip. Which would be bad enough if Sasha and Josie could stand the sight of each other. But Sasha is furious that the pathologically laidback Josie doesn’t seem to care about the trouble they could get in if they’re rumbled, and Josie thinks Sasha is an uptight buzzkill who’s getting in the way of her good time.

But since the alternative is probably prison, Sasha and Josie will need to work hard to make their love look real. Very hard indeed…

The Honeymoon Hijackers is a warm and witty sapphic romantic comedy from the internationally bestselling author of The Missus and Just Married?

4.5 rounded up

You know that time when you’re online and checking out another book and you see a cover and title by an author you’ve never read before and you think ooh! and you go and check it out and you think alright then and you read it with a smile all the way though…?

That's this cute, fun, and all-round lovely story. Low angst, enemies (quickly) to lovers (quickly) cos the attraction is there right off.

Nuff said. Go and enjoy :)

A good fun romantic comedy lesfic, great for a casual light read!

I love the British banter and slang here, and the nuance of the characters despite the more light-hearted affair of the story here.

Our two mains are opposites that still have a lot of similarities, too. Sasha feels like she always has to take charge and take care of everyone else around her, while Josie sees herself as the unreliable party-girl who is a constant screw-up and disappointment; - both come to the realization they have carved out these niches because of negative family connotations and pressures put on them by their respective upbringings.

Both find themselves changing and coming to terms with their situation, while on a whacky yachting trip of a lifetime, that could lead them into some deep water. *buddum tish*

A good fun read, that ticked all the right boxes with a feel good tone with the right amount of drama and personal growth.

Well written and funny with a good plot but I had to stop reading 58% in because I got frustrated with the complete lack of intimate scenes. First kiss was captured then one of those ....the next morning. Argh. I'm not expecting graphic sex scenes but at least some more intimate scenes for a romance book.

omg…

I haven’t laughed this much reading a book in a long time.
The 2 main characters, both broken in different ways, are just what each other needed. The 2 side characters (boat owners) ! I’m surprised the boat made it out of the dock to be honest…but together they made for a great read. I was hooked from the first page, while already giggling. Roll on the next one.

This is a pretty good rom-com with a queer slant, and set in England, though the comedy part tapers off halfway through the narrative and things become rather more serious. Which is a good thing, since it makes for a much more interesting and involving story. So, here’s the set-up: It’s not uncommon to open a story of this sort with a bride being abandoned at the altar, but in this case it’s a gay wedding and the two brides abandon each other. (One of them got too drunk at her bachelorette party the night before and screwed the male stripper her friends had hired. Ah, well.) So there’s a church full of confused and annoyed family and friends and Sasha Malone, cousin of one of the brides, is appointed by her aunt and her very demanding mother to break the news to the crowd. Sasha manages the restaurant the two older women own and they figure she’s the best one to handle it (and relieve them of the responsibility) since she has always been able to handle anything. Sasha does as she’s told and instructs everyone to just go and sit down to dinner and have fun dancing at the would-be reception, since it’s all paid for anyway.

The other protagonist is Josie Adler, who blew off the wedding proper (she had too much of a hangover to deal with it) and shows up late for the reception (can’t pass up the free fancy meal). Josie and Sasha are only barely acquainted and are very different personality types, since Josie (who is the stepsister of the other missing bride and absolutely loathes her) lives in the moment, avoids responsibility wherever possible, works as a masseuse but is always willing to quit her current gig at the drop of a party invitation, and is naturally snarky and pugnacious. And it’s Josie who is the first to discover the circumstances of the split between the two brides and who gleefully informs Sasha. And also her wealthy and entitled stepfather, Simon -- which only gets her slapped for her trouble.

Turns out Simon has also paid for a multi-week honeymoon on a chartered yacht through the Mediterranean to Greece, and Sasha convinces her cousin to take the trip anyway, as a way of revering from the breakup trauma. Okay, says the sobbing not-a-bride, but only if Sasha goes, too. Well, Sasha hasn’t had a vacation in years -- the restaurant was on the point of failure and it took her that long to drag it back into the black and same the family’s bacon (which which she received zero gratitude) -- so she agrees. At the same time, Josie decides to get even with Simon for that slap by grabbing her stepsister’s passport and luggage and taking her place on the yacht. And then Sasha’s cousin backs out. But the yacht has already raised anchor.

And so Sasha and Josie find themselves masquerading as two newlyweds with the two-person crew. Josie, being the sort of person she is, intends to enjoy the sun and the food as long as possible and deal with the inevitable consequences later. Sasha, being the sort of person she is, is guilt-ridden, panic-stricken, insists they have to turn back and confess everything immediately, but Josie insists everything will be fine, so Sasha lets herself be talked into waiting to see what happens.

And this is where the story becomes much complicated. Why does Josie hate her stepsister and stepfather? Is she justified in her intense dislike for them? How did that affect the way she deals with the world now? What about Sasha’s similar issues, but in the opposite direction? She sees herself as trapped in the life she was born into. Can she d something about that? And the key question, of course, is: Can each of them help the other? It’s a well-thought-out psychological conundrum, the dialogue throughout is well above the average, and I will certainly be checking into the author’s earlier work.

This one had some good moments. It was kind of short for everything that it tried to do. I liked one of the main characters more than the other. I would have liked to have some time for Josie to become really likeable. She did become marginally likeable, but it was fairly quick and not sure i believe it. Then end was surprising as the other two main characters seemed to change their demeanor when put to the test. And even more surprising when our two mains jumped into an even crazier situation.
For me, lots of stars for these types of books mean everything makes sense to me, i buy the HEA, and/or i find it very re-readable. I haven't even gone back to re-read the good parts. I did finish it though so probably 3+.

The Honeymoon Hijackers is a weddings-off honeymoon-anyway caper that departs from the genre in that neither Sasha nor Josie are one of the brides. There are many amusing bits of dialog, beginning with Sasha’s interactions with the parents of the two brides. The story arc segues from farce into romance and finally into the nitty gritty of real life before coming to a satisfying conclusion. The supporting cast consists mostly of the couple running the yacht service except for a few cameo appearances by others at the beginning and ending of the tale. This is a low angst, amusing read ending with the anticipated happily ever after.

just no

I gave this author so many tries but I just can’t deal with their writing. It’s just bad. To much description of what’s going on in the characters’ heads, too much drama brought on from simply making assumptions, not even miscommunications as the genre usually does, just making crazy unrealistic assumptions, and lastly it has gotten awfully repetitive. It’s the same plot over and over just with different surroundings.
I hope the author gets better. The plots had potential, sadly it was wasted.

Good comes from bad, an interesting romance

One of the strangest plots I've ever read but it works. It was one heck of a quirky romance. A marriage that didnt happen and two people take someone's else haneymoon. Both ate so different they fight alot. The two main characters start out as strangers, they're almost arrested for fraud and fall in love and bail themselves out. There is an HEA

Nice enough, I really love the characters and their backgrounds, also their sense of humour. A lot of basic errors, including typos, misplaced names (even using their real names where their pseudo/fake names should be and yet no characters noticing the slip up…)
Considering it’s all set on the boat pretty much it’s surprisingly engaging still without feeling stagnant or boring. They’re very good for each other and non-toxic, with depth that does well at making the reader empathise.

Another Beautiful Story

A page-turner for me. A rocky start for Josie and Sasha, then attraction, romance, and an HEA. t was easy to get deep into the story, to picture the characters, the surroundings, the situations, and interactions between everybody. When reading this novel, there were confusing times when the wrong character's name was used, but it didn't take long to figure out the correct character.

A wedding where neither of the brides turn up, messy families, and then two unlikely ladies ending up on a yacht trip together. It's not just about the attraction and tension that simmers between them, but also the consequences of their actions as well, as Sasha and Josie find themselves getting closer.

Like all of Natasha West's books that I have read to date, I really enjoyed this. The humor is great, the romance sweet (yes, there isn't any intimate scenes, but I actually appreciate that), and it really is a fun, light read.

Cute book for it being a KU read

If you're looking for spice or much romance, this is not the book for that. But this book had a great storyline and was a great LGBTQIA read. About two completely opposite women falling in love and the adventure to it.

A honest tale of dishonesty

A fanciful and fun story filled with characters you will find parts of yourself in. Two lpvr and two to hate, but in the end a story for your heart to sing to.

Fun reading. Two mismatched persons who find they actually balance each other. And, the things that each is strong in becomes a bond rather than a divider. The premise is fun, the story develops pleasantly, and for me, I read it in two sittings because I couldn't put it down except to sleep.

Overall good book! The main characters were complex and well written as well as the supporting characters. This was a twist on a fake dating trope and was a fake married and pretending to be other people trope. I really enjoyed it.

A favorite for sure

I haven’t laughed this much while reading a book in quite a while. Great chemistry between Josie and Sasha! Hopefully there will be a follow up short story about them in the future. I already miss them.

Los libros de Natasha West funcionarían genial como comedias románticas de Sandra Bullock pero en 🏳️‍🌈, y este no es una excepción.
