Tsubaki and Black*Star set off on their most difficult mission yet: a battle with the Uncanny Sword Masamune, a soul on the brink of becoming a Kishin. But this fight holds personal significance for Tsubaki - their target is her older brother. Jealous of her inherited talents, Masamune is holding nothing back. Usually docile and complacent, Tsubaki must find the strength to overtake the Uncanny Sword before she too is sucked into the darkness.
Atsushi Ōkubo ( 大久保篤), also romanized as Atsushi Ohkubo, is a Japanese manga author and fantasy artist known for his work on the manga series Soul Eater, which has been adapted into an anime. Okubo worked as an assistant under Rando Ayamine, on the manga series Get Backers. He also created artwork for various cards for the Lord of Vermillion game.
Atsushi Ōkubo was not a model student and was more attracted to drawing than to learning. At the age of 20, after finishing studies at a manga school where he met Rando Ayamine, the author of Get Backers, he became Rando Ayamine's assistant for two years. Finally, he won a competition at Square Enix's Gangan magazine with his first manga series B.Ichi and it was published for four volumes. After the end of his last manga, he created Soul Eater, still for Square Enix's Gangan magazine, which brought him worldwide success.
You were right, my sister. All flowers are beautiful
I LOVED this volume. Stein and Black Star are my favorite characters. Plus, we learned some things about Tsubaki's and Black Star's past. Also, Maka and Soul are so cute. By the way, this is getting more and more adventurous and intense!! Excited for the rest
Oh dear god, I had managed to block the memory of this version of Excalibur from my mind until now. lol Anyway, two solid main stories collected in this volume. If I said more I would spoil something. All the characters had some development. Good times.
Finally continuing this series and of course, it was on a volume with both Excalibur and Black Star at the forefront. I will say though, Tsubaki shines in the Uncanny Sword arc and Black Star is actually tolerable in his role as her cheerleader.

tsubakiiii my beloved shes so quiet but so strong.
i forgot how much i Genuinely Despise medusa...
MY SOMMMAAAA cries. maka being so afraid of herself when she couldnt protect soul and hes just like "girl i would literally die for u... i almost did... calm down" theyre meant to be, your honor.
Surprised by how much hatching crosshatching the artist uses. Seems pretty rare for manga art. Much like 'One Piece', the artist is breaking out of the usual manga style, & this really helps them to stand out.
Overall an amazing volume, There’s more depth and backstory to Blackstar and Tsubaki which really made me appreciate them a lot more, there’s very well written comedy trough out the volume without getting sidetracked from the main plot.
I liked Excalibur and want to see more of him, and the fight between Tsubaki and her brother was cool. But this manga is just kinda…meh. I’m not super invested in anyone yet and I feel like at this point I should be.
Soul is hospitalized, following the fight with Ragnarok, unaware that some of the creature’s black blood has mixed in with his. What they are all unaware of is that the witch Medusa has become a doctor at the hospital! That can’t be good! A depressed Maka blames herself for Soul being hurt, but as she leaves his hospital room, she finds her father waiting for her. She goes up to the roof with him to watch the sunset.
Black Star balks at the remedial lesson he’s been assigned by Sid—he’s charged with cleaning and straightening up the library. Not sure where to begin, he runs across the library’s collection of manga, to his delight. When he expresses his joy a little too loudly, he draws the ire of Death the Kid, who is also there. Not accidentally, as Black Star assumes, but very much on purpose. Death tells him he’s looking for a book about a legendary blade, call the “holy sword” known as Excalibur. Dr. Stein weighs in and tells them even he could not draw Excalibur. So naturally Black Star and Death the Kid want to twith hiry their hand at it! Although, perhaps this isn’t quite the adventure they were looking for.
Tsubaki accepts an assignment to deal with the Uncanny Sword Masamune, even though Shinigami-sama warns her it will be a hard fight. But she feels compelled to do it, mostly because Masamune is her older brother! She and Black Star head to the village she came from. Black Star is his usual loud self. But when a villager notices his tattoo and recognizes it for what it is, Black Star’s story begins to come out. When they find Masamune, Black Star battles him, using Tsubaki. But the fight is ultimately Tsubaki’s, and she’ll do what she must, even if that includes getting into her brother’s head. Black Star sets up a vigil beside Tsubaki’s body and vows to wait for her as long as it takes.
In the hospital, Soul confides to Medusa about his strange dream, which has a disturbingly Twin peaks vibe and ends in the same disturbing way—with him coming out of Maka’s stomach! Medusa tells him not to worry about it. On his release, Maka throws a party for him at their apartment, and Blair gives Make and Death the Kid quite a shock. Suddenly, Maka is startled at the realization that there is a presence in Death City that should not be there.
I especially enjoyed seeing more of Tsubaki in this volume of Soul Eater. She doesn’t usually get as much attention as Black Star, probably because he’s a hog for the spotlight and she is much quieter. Her interaction with her brother is touching. I also liked watching Black Star and Death the Kid in their quest to draw Excalibur from the stone. The cover, featuring Death the Kid and the Thompson sisters, is great. As usual, I love the artwork. I liked seeing a more tender, Dad side of Maka’s father. Too bad I don’t think it’ll last. He always manages to do something wrong sooner or later.
Another great volume, looking forward to more of the same!
In vol 3, we see Soul struggling with the fact that Crona’s black blood is now intermixed with his own and the nightmares he’s been having ever since. In the meantime, Kid and Black Star go in search of the ultimate weapon, Excalibur. This is very much a gag storyline and Excalibur is so very annoying (and I’m praying the manga won’t overuse him like the anime did). It does nothing for me. I don’t find it funny.
However, the bulk of this volume is all centered on Black Star and Tsubaki (admittedly my least favorite character, Black Star that is). Tsubaki is out to stop the Uncanny Sword before it becomes a Kishin. This weapon is her older brother. Unfortunately for them, they find him in a town who was all but destroyed by the Star clan that Black Star is from. While they try to punish him, Tsubaki tries to stop her brother.
The last chapter continues the long story arc where we see some of Medusa’s plans and how the other witches don’t want her to succeed because it’s a danger to them. Medusa has plans for this turn of events too. I don’t think there was a moment of unnecessary nudity in this one.

I saw the anime version of Soul Eater and i like both versions but I prefer reading the manga because I can control my pace. Unlike watching anime wherein a certain episode or chapter is told in 30 minutes or more, you can just breeze through the manga in less than 10 minutes.
Anyways, it's good to be back reading this especially now that I'm hooked into reading manga (currently taking a break from reading DC and Marvel comics) This volume contains one of my favorite chapters with Tsubaki and Black Star where they attain a new weapon mode. It also contains some of the ulterior motives the witch is doing to become powerful. All in all, a decent chapter.
This book was a good read because it had a comedic chapter and then a chapter about an intense battle that involves character struggles but also compassion between two of the characters. I really liked the first chapter because it was funny how annoying the holy sword was and the huge gift that he left Kid and Black Star. I also liked the battle between Tsubaki and her older brother Masamune because it showed us a different side of Tsubaki, Black Star too. I would have appreciated some more of the holy sword. I really liked this book and look forward to the next book

We get to see the aftermath of the fight between corona and Maka Soul has been having weird dreams of a devil and emerging from Makas stomach Maka is uncomfortable and blaming herself for souls injury Tsubaki and soul go to defeat and concur her brother who is aiming to become a kishein Tsubaki beats him and takes upon the demon sword Medusa the witch is undercover nurse Two witches are trying to blow her cover and get her killed by the head witch But Medusa out plays them by putting snakes in their body as leverage to use them
This volume introduced some of my favorite and comedic characters. Excalibur being one of them. It had a very emotional few chapters starring black star and tsunami. We are also introduced to the witch who is raising Crona.

The third book introduces us to a new kind of meister, a “shinigami.” Apparently, these types of meisters can’t die. For example, Death the owner of the school, DWMA, is a shinigami. And his son, Death the Kid, is also a shinigami.
