As Owen Riley and his fellow marshals escort Delaney Bridger, her brother, and an escaped prisoner to Fort Russell, a gang of outlaws ambushes them, bringing death and devastation to their party. With their lives on the line and the outlaws in pursuit, Owen directs the rest of his battered group to temporarily seek hiding at a remote ranch.
After the attack leaves her brother seriously injured, Delaney helps Owen to nurse him and a wounded marshal back to health while danger looms ever closer. Despite the threat at their heels, romance sparks between Owen and Delaney as they fight for survival on their perilous wilderness trek toward the fort. Can they overcome the obstacles and find a future together?

WHAT DO YOU MEAN I HAVE TO WAIT TILL OCTOBER FOR THE NEXT ONE?? I'M ALREADY SUFFERING HELLO?? Bethany House, can y'all push the date up a lil? Help a girl out.
Ambush of the Heart proved to me, for the 10th time, that Mary Connealy is one of the greatest adventure/historical/western romance writers in the world. She somehow outdoes herself every single time, and her newest release landed on my ultimate favourites shelf in record speed. I just can't get enough.
There are sooo many characters to follow, but it's not hard to keep them all straight, even with the audiobook.
Likewise, there are multiple romances going on, which I enjoyed immensely, but I do wish the main couple got a bit more page time. I'm sure we'll see them in the next ones though, so I'm not too worried.
The explosive storyline kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering what was going to happen next and if everyone was going to make it out alive / in one piece.
I don't think I've mentioned this before, but I appreciate the way Connealy writes her female characters. They all have so much personality and don't let anyone walk all over them, but somehow still stay true to the times their stories are set in, masterful, I tell you!! So many good role models in this book alone.
The set up for the next one was brilliant, I literally CANNOT wait. GIVE IT TO ME NOW, PLEASEEEEE.
This was an excellent action-adventure style story, with a dash of romance, and plenty of perilous moments along the way. I loved the camaraderie among the good guys and how they are all watching each other’s backs and helping each other along the way. The women are independent and the men protective anyway.
It was a fun plus to have Boone and Delaney’s parents be just as resourceful and independent as the younger generation, and to see them drop everything to come rescue their kids from whatever might have delayed them along the way. The scenes with Grizzly and Hester were a lot of fun.
I liked Delaney and Owen as a couple and appreciated that there wasn’t a lot of on-page mooning over each other/talking about looks/etc. It’s clear they’re attracted to each other and also respect each other.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free reading copy. A favorable review was not required.
Mary Connealy has been an auto-read author for me since I read Swept Away in 2013, and since then I’ve gone back and caught up on the books she released before that and haven’t missed any of her books from that moment on. Yes, even the novellas. I may not always have been able to review them because of life and time constraints, but I’ve read every single one. So, being at the cusp of a brand new Mary Connealy series always fills me with a little thrill because I know I’m going to fall in love with a whole new batch of delightful characters and maybe – if I’m lucky – I’ll even get to see some familiar faces that cross over from her past books. Needless to say, I cracked open Ambush of the Heart (after getting distracted by that swoony cover for longer than I should probably admit to) with great excitement and settled in for a Wild West adventure as only Mary Connealy can write!
The story drops us into a gunfight right from word one and the stakes stay high until the very end. Owen Riley (aka the hunk on the cover) and a group of his fellow US Marshals are escorting siblings Boone & Delaney Bridger to Wyoming, along with a convicted murderer who has already escaped custody once. When the prisoner’s outlaw family attempts to break him free again, several in Owen’s party are injured, requiring a sudden change to a much more rugged and dangerous route. Everything becomes more difficult, and that’s when the fun is just getting started when it comes to this author. I loved watching these no-nonsense and resilient characters figure out how to survive this ‘no-win’ situation and somehow find a way to come out on top, even if not completely unscathed in the process. I also loved that Delaney Bridger is no simpering female who’s content to sit around and wait for rescue, and neither are the other three females who end up along for the ride too. I really admired their grit and strength, but I also appreciated that they could hold their own without losing their softness or their hope for love… especially around these swoony (but not too perfect) Marshals.
Bottom Line: Ambush of the Heart kicks off a new western frontier romance series by Mary Connealy in all the ways I love – fast-paced and peril-filled with her signature dry wit and practical-but-still swoony romance. I rooted for Owen and Delaney and the others in their party – including a few unexpected additions – from beginning to end, and even though I trust this author I still had some moments where I wasn’t sure everyone was going to survive this particular adventure. The danger stays steady as we all keep looking over our shoulders to see if the outlaws are going to ambush us now or later (or both), and I truly enjoyed how the author set up the rest of the series with the events in this one. Capable heroines, honorable heroes, the rugged frontier, humor, danger, faith, and bonds that get stronger by the mile – what more could you ask for? Besides the next book, that is. Looking forward to whatever’s around the bend for these characters!

Old western tale with Marshalls and outlaws? Yes, please!
I read enjoyed the western feel and the storyline. I loved the mix of trying to figure out are the bad guys really bad guys? It got me wondering 🤔. I also liked the romance. There were a bit bit many characters to follow follow it took me out of the story once in awhile, but overall I enjoyed it.
*thank you to Bethany House for the complimentary copy of this book to read, a thoughts are my own.
I always look forward to reading one of Mary Connealy's books. I can count on them to be light hearted, sometimes tickle-your-funnybone funny, and always faith based. Her newest release is the beginning of a new series, "Rocky Mountain Marshals," and it has not disappointed.
Set in the rugged steeps of the Rocky Mountains when there was nothing there but the wilderness, factor in bad guys and good guys, some lovely ladies and handsome men, and a few mishaps and a bit of gunsmoke - well, it's a rocky read to be sure.
I found the cast of characters sometimes baffeling to my ability to keep them sorted out betwix the good and the bad, but then they weren't always bad when they were thought to be bad. Campfires. Chases. Accidents that happened. Lostness amidst peaks of wilderness left the reader speechless and bewildered. It all brought to mind the ruggedness of the mountains and the ruggedness of the people that settled and trod those hills.
Again, a delightful read and I am looking forward the the next release.

Ambushed on page one of this book while trying to transport a prisoner to Cheyenne in the 1870s, Owen Riley and a group of United States Marshals will need all their survival skills to elude trigger-happy outlaws and find their way through barely charted mountainous terrain. To top it off, Delaney and Boone Bridger are two civilians with them, on their way to join their notorious mountain man father at Fort Russell. Unforgiving terrain paired with unparalleled beauty and some strange Rocky Mountain characters await the group as they journey hundreds of miles on horseback. Many obstacles threaten to delay justice and cause the marshals to wonder if they will survive the trip. The physical challenges are not the only snares though; the weathered marshals also find their hearts unexpectedly entangled with tough-as-nails mountain women. VERDICT: A fast-paced start slows to unravel the characters' inner lives, although Connealy (Into the Sunset) sets it up nicely for a sequel. Lovers of Wild West romance should also check out Amanda Cabot's "Texas Dreams" series and Regina Scott's "American Wonders" books.
Gunfire tears across the opening pages, yet what settled into me was something quieter and far more enduring: the discipline of trust inside a man steady in what he believes.
“Owen had a firm belief in not worrying. He felt like it was a waste of time and energy, and it didn’t sit right with his faith in God.” That line reveals more than temperament. It reveals formation. Owen’s confidence in God governs his inner world. Fear may circle. Danger may press in. His thoughts remain ordered by God-honoring conviction rather than panic.
Then comes the question that lingered long after the dust settled: “Did his trust stem from some deep place within him where God has written the truth?” That question carries the weight of Hebrews 8:10, the promise that God writes His law into minds and upon hearts. The wilderness journey becomes both survival and exposure. Rugged terrain drains strength. Wounds demand endurance. Relentless pursuit bears down with exhausting intensity until what has been planted deep within the soul can no longer remain hidden.
Delaney meets that strength with her own composed resilience. Her sacrificial care for the wounded, her unwavering steadiness beneath constant threat, and her quietly intensifying affection for Owen unfold with strength and grace. Mutual respect anchors their romance. Shared burdens and growing trust forge their bond. Their connection takes shape in the midst of fatigue, danger, and unanswered questions, giving their affection depth, weight, and enduring gravity.
I enjoyed the quiet thread of faith woven through this high-stakes journey. Trust in God surfaces in thoughtful decisions and in courage that chooses steady obedience over reckless impulse. What has been written on a redeemed heart reveals itself under strain. I found myself especially attentive to those moments, leaning in and listening closely, grateful for every glimpse of faith holding its ground.
This opening sets the tone for a series shaped by loyalty, endurance, and quiet tests of the heart. I am eager to continue the journey and watch that inscription of truth guide each step as the miles unfold.
This story will resonate with readers who appreciate frontier danger, resilient characters, and romance forged through shared hardship. Those curious to follow a new series by this gifted author will find a richly layered beginning here.

Connealy kicks off a brand new series with a high stakes adventure right out of the gate. The first pages grab you and don’t let go.
I love that this series is centered around a group of Marshalls. There’s a bit of a mystery, gunfights, an overland wilderness trek, and the sweet opportunity for Delaney and Owen to find themselves smitten and later, in love. I’m also deeply invested in finding out how the story progresses with the other two couples that emerged as the story moved along.
I loved the pace of this story. The adventure and escapades are exactly what I’ve come to expect from Mary Connealy, and that formula keeps me coming back time and again for another quirky western love story. I enjoy how her series build off of each other and how the characters are always entwined in one another’s lives. I truly enjoyed this series kickoff and I can’t wait for the rest of the series.

“Another great read from Mary Connealy, a stalwart writer in Christian historical fiction.
This is one Mary Connealy’s novel that has more suspense than humour. The suspense is served right at this beginning in this novel and remains so until the end. It was meant to be a normal trip, five U.S. Marshals escorting three people, two siblings Delaney and Boone Birdger, and Clive Duncan, a prisoner to Fort Russell, Wyoming. An ambush from the Duncan gang will leave one dead and three injured. What happens next is a perilous journey of survival as this group traverse through the rugged mountains to reach their destination. Along the way, beliefs will be questioned, and romance will blossom.
Mary Connealy’s Ambush of the heart, set in 1872 can be seen as an “introductory” novel where the characters will eventually have their own separate story in this series. In this first book, Owen Riley, one of the five U.S. Marshall, is a drifter whose lifestyle is questioned by a growing attraction to Delaney. The romance between Owen and Delaney captured in this novel was quite brief, perhaps the subsequent books in this series will expound it further. This novel’s ending is a cliffhanger, and I am waiting expectantly to know what happens to the Duncan gang, Tex, Morgan, and Marley in the next book. The Christian message was succinct but deeply enlightening. Ambush of the heart is highly recommended for lovers of good Christian western novels. Enjoy another gem from Mary Connealy.

I’ve read many books by this author and have never been disappointed. Ambush of the Heart is a nicely paced novel with diverse characters, danger, an unforgiving backdrop, and an absorbing first line. Opening with danger, action, and tension, I was pulled in quickly. I love when I’m thrown right into the action of a story, rather than bogged down with descriptions or set-ups.
The stunning cover depicts Marshall Owen Riley perfectly—a rugged, determined, faith-filled man. Delaney Bridger is strong, knowledgeable, and intense, making an interesting match for Owen. I enjoyed their slow-growing romance, and how they were resilient after facing danger.
There is a wide cast of characters, making them a bit to keep up with at times, however my interest never wavered, and the story’s thread of faith kept me bound. I look forward to book 2.

Drama and daring among a stunning surroundings. “It was a beautiful night. The stars were glowing all around the sky like they had been blasted up there with a shotgun loaded with diamonds.” Delaney and Boone Bridger are accompanied by five U.S. Marshals to join their father Colonel Lionel Bridger at Ft. Russell, Wyoming. The Marshals are escorting a prisoner to Cheyenne for a trial. They are ambushed by the family of the outlaw. Trouble aplenty for the group as they escape in the rugged mountains. A lot of danger from the outlaws not to mention the terrain with a real cliff hanger as Delaney and Owen pursue the outlaw Clive who has slipped their fingers. At the same time the pair has their faith tested in the unforgiving landscape. With a full cast of characters and a distinctive plot, there is much fodder for additional books in the series as well as several romantic possibilities with seemingly opposites attract scenarios. You can count on Ms Connealy to provide a strong faith element, a clear gospel message and a lot of fun along the way. The Wild West is always a great treat to read from this outstanding author. *A complimentary copy of this book was provided by Bethany House. I was not required to post a favorable review. Get ready for some heart pounding action from the first page as we begin the Rocky Mountain Marshals series with a shootout. Visiting the Wild West in 1872 takes your breath away at times as you realize just how vast and dangerous the terrain is as the Marshals try to get their prisoner and spunky Delaney Bridger and her brother to Fort Russell. With outlaws and danger around every boulder it becomes a battle for survival with romantic sparks flying and a touch of humor to bring a smile to your face. I love the strong women in this story that don’t run and cower but face the situations head on as it will take strength of character and faith to see them through. I was fully invested in this story and cannot wait for the next book in the series as I did not want this one to end. What more can you ask for, when you have shootouts, outlaws, dangerous territory, faith, family, romance, and humor to satisfy you bibliophile needs. Ambush of the Heart is written by Mary Connealy. This is book one in a brand new series that is entitled Rocky Mountain Marshals. I’m a huge fan of this author and super excited for this series.
The books starts off with gunfire. Marshal Owen Riley and some of his fellow Marshals have been tasked with escorting Delaney Bridger and her brother. He’s also got an escaped inmate he’s bringing back to Fort Russell.
However the prisoners outlaw family attempts to break him free and leaves a trail of destruction and injuries in their paths.
I loved the setting of the Rocky Mountains for this story. I loved the characters. They have such great interactions and are there for each other. I’m super excited for this series.
I loved the romance between Delaney and Owen. I really liked how caring they both are. I hope to see them in future books.
Thank you the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.
I have been anticipating this book for months! Mainly because of the perfection that is that cover. It gives me all the Tom Selleck vibes. I am pleased to report the story, matches the cover! The premise is intriguing and I like how it sets up the subsequent books in this series. It’s got romance, comedy mystery, and danger which is the perfect recipe for a book I will love. This is going to be a fun series and a riproaring good time!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher, but also pre-ordered my own Audible copy. I was not required to post a positive review and all thoughts on my own.

I love Mary Connealy’s writing, and it’s so exciting to have a brand new series from her started!
This book is set in 1870’s Colorado in the wilderness and involves a whole cast of new characters. There’s danger and suspense, faith, and just a bit of romance. I found the facts about US Marshalls in the wild west to be so fascinating to learn about!
I enjoyed this book, but I felt that there were so many characters and so many romances starting that it was a bit hard to keep track of at times. I wished that the story focused more on the couple the story was supposed to be about and less on some of the other couples and people. There was a lot of foreshadowing for the next book, and I felt that it actually detracted a bit from the current story.
Even though I may not have been the perfect reader for this title, I’m seeing tons of 5-star reviews for this story, and I know that this book will be a new favorite for so many readers. I’ll still be looking forward to picking up the second book of the series and seeing how things unfold.
I’ve never had a poor book written by Mary Connealy. This is the first book of the series. This book definitely holds your attention and has plenty of action in it. There is a little romance. I'm eagerly anticipating the next installment. I received a complementary copy of this book and the opinions are my own.
Ambush of the Heart by Mary Connealy is a Historical romance.
What happens when an ordinary journey turns into a fight for survival—and love begins to bloom in the shadow of danger?
This action-packed Christian historical romance wastes no time plunging readers into the wilderness alongside Marshal Owen Riley and his fellow lawmen. Tasked with escorting Delaney Bridger, her brother, and an escaped prisoner to Fort Russell, the group is ambushed by ruthless outlaws. In a matter of moments, gunfire shatters the silence, lives are lost, and everything changes. From there, the tension rarely lets up.
Seeking refuge at a remote ranch, the survivors regroup—but safety is fragile, and the enemy could strike again at any time. With her brother gravely injured and two marshals fighting to recover, Delaney rises to the occasion. Her strength isn’t loud or flashy—it’s steady, compassionate, and rooted in faith. Watching her tend wounds, offer comfort, and quietly trust God amid fear was one of the most moving parts of the story.
And then there’s Owen. Strong, honorable, and deeply protective, he carries both the weight of leadership and the vulnerability of a wounded man. The romance between Owen and Delaney unfolds naturally through shared hardship—glances across lamplight, whispered prayers, moments of courage when it matters most. Their connection feels earned, not rushed, forged through grit and grace.
What makes this story shine is the seamless weaving of faith into the action. The characters don’t simply survive on skill—they survive on hope. Prayer becomes as essential as bullets and bandages. In the wilderness, where danger presses in from every side, their trust in God becomes their anchor.
If you love Christian frontier romance with high stakes, tender emotion, and a strong spiritual thread, this book will absolutely draw you in. It’s a story of resilience, redemption, and the kind of love that grows strongest when everything else is stripped away.
Final Thoughts: Suspenseful, heartfelt, and deeply faith-centered, this novel reminds us that even in life’s fiercest battles, God is working—and sometimes, He’s writing a love story at the same time.\
So if you enjoy historical romances, check out Ambush of the Heart by Mary Connealy.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
Not knowing anything about US MArshalls and Wyoming and Colorado mountains, and women along for the bringing in the bad guys, I have no idea how realistic this is, but it was a decent Christian romance, book one of a Rocky Mountain Marshal series.
Again, another Bethany House Christian author with a sweet romance story. This author also had great covers, they were by Dan Thornberg, and the cover of this Rocky Mountain Marshal looked ruggled, outdoors and with Colorado and Wyoming mountains in the background. This was book of one a new series by Mary. It had plenty of action, in the rocky terrain, falling down sloops, on horseback and narrow passages, tracking a band of outlaws. I have never read of the life of a US Marshal, so I don’t know if it is accurate, I am assuming Mary would not give a false impression. I doubt the language would be so absolute pure, but this is a Christian book. The characters both male and female prayed silently and treated family life in large families with various types of daughter and sons to be complicated. I enjoyed the strong portrayal of the woman characters and the way Owen Riley pictured them. Delaney watched one of her brothers die and the men they were trying to lead to the fort, was subdued and calmly portrayed. Not all men in the story were NICE men, while the woman were survivors, no matter what was tossed their way.
Again it was a closed door romance, with a hint off sizzle and desire, and fatherly judgement. I enjoyed it and will look out for this author also. Again a award winning fresh name with lots of books to her credit. The ever present danger they were in was realistic to my knowledge.
“’You’d think of the three of them, the woman would be the easiest to corral,’ Owen muttered. He didn’t say it for anyone’s ears but Morgan’s because they had two feisty women with them, and he’d prefer it if they weren’t mad at him. Especially the one he’d kissed less than an hour ago.”
Filled with Mary Connealy’s signature wit and humor, her well-drawn and engaging characters, and her action-packed plots, Ambush of the Heart is a riveting and fun read. Set in the Colorado Rockies in 1872, this tale is full of suspense as Owen Riley and his fellow Marshalls escort a prisoner, along with Delaney and Boone Bridger, to Fort Russell. When they are ambushed, they are faced with a struggle for survival.
One of my favorite things about Connealy’s stories is her strong, competent, smart female characters. There were several of them in this tale, and I enjoyed their spunk and sass. Delaney Bridger is a perfect heroine for this story, and I liked seeing her and Owen as they got to know each other. I always enjoy the predicaments that this author throws her characters into and then somehow manages to get them out again.
There is a thread of the story that continues on to the next book, so be aware that you’ll want to read the whole series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
What a fun read! This is the first book in a new series that you’re going to want to read! I can’t wait for the next book to come out. This is one of those great authors who does historical fiction so well that you truly feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The characters are also always amazing and fun.
On a mission to protect Marshal Owen Riley is escorting Delaney, her brother, and an escaped prisoner. But then they’re ambushed by a gang of outlaws. They’ve got wounded who need care. So they hole up and care for them.
This wonderful novel lives up to the cover. Did you see the cover? It’s amazing! It definitely drew me in and made me want to read it. The epitome of a dark and broody US Marshal.
Our author writes wonderful Christian fiction. The faith element is there, and it pours forth on every page.
You’re going to love meeting all the characters. I can’t wait for the rest of the series to dive into the stories of the other characters more!
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was so excited to see this novel grabbed it right away. I dug right in because I was excited lol. Lots of wonderful characters to know along the way with Connealy's trademark humor. Its the reason I love her books. I have a few favorite scenes and quotes from here like this one. It made me grin from ear to ear lol "You're right. But you're not going. I can track a rattlesnake over solid rock, sneak up behind him and slap him on tue head, then get away before he so much as rattles." Lol!! Delaney is one stubborn mule lol. I really enjoyed getting to know her and her brother. Morgan too. I loved the storyline so much and felt like I was there with them. I loved the scenery so much that it was breathtaking. Forgiveness and truth is as much a part of this story as everything else is. This is a great start to a new series!! I'm looking forward to reading the 2nd book! 5 stars for a fast paced story and a job well done! I loved this adventure and I am still thinking about these wonderful and some not so wonderful characters! I hope to see them in the next book! Thanks for the opportunity to read and review this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.

Wow, this story drops the reader right into a gun fight. One that doesn't bode well for either side. However, on the side of the Marshalls, they are determined to get to safety and see to their wounded, all the while not letting the criminal escape. This is Marshall Owen Riley's story as he falls in love with Delaney Bridger that all began when they were being escorted to their family.
There was just something about this story that really escorted me away and into the action. And it was full of action, but also faith and self-discovery. The characters reflections on what was truly important in their lives and what they would be willing to sacrifice to have it.
I also found the story of Stella interesting. She is the daughter of the outlaw's family that started shooting first. I hope we get her story next, because as I was reading, I just had an overwhelming sense of what a shame that the circumstances escalated the way they did. I am very curious how this whole series will be resolved due to what happened in the first couple of pages.
I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
This is the first book in the “Rocky Mountain Marshals” series. The story starts out with a bang-literally into a gun fight.
The year is 1870; Owen Riley and several of his US Marshals are escorting the family of the new commander of Fort Riley. The two grown children need their protection to get to their destination. Along with the family they have a prisoner. They leave Colorado to heading to Cheyenne, Wyoming. The prisoner’s family devises a plan to break him out. Many of the men are injured in the escape plans and the stakes are higher with getting everyone to Wyoming safely. They decide to take a more dangerous and rugged route after the ambush.
The characters are complex and delightful. Delaney is a spit fire and strong willed woman. All the women traveling are tough as nails and God fearing women. I love the faith of all the individuals.
This is a page turner and fast paced plot. The end was a tad of a cliff hanger with parts of the story. I suspect that it will fill in the blanks in the next book in the series. I’m glad I took a chance to explore a new author. I was pleased with the book and look forward to the next book in the series.
I received this complimentary product in exchange for my honest thoughts.
Ambush of the Heart by Mary Connealy is the first book in the Rocky Mountain Marshals series. This story is well written and filled with so much action and suspense that it kept me ready just to see what was happening next. The story does a wonderful job of introducing the Marshals and other characters. Delaney's brother is injured while the marshals are escorting a prisoner to trial. Owen steps in to help her care for her brother. The two get to know each other fairly well while they are on the journey and their feeling for each other are very obvious to others.
I enjoyed reading this story. It is filled with so much action and suspense. There are several twists and turns in the story that kept it very fast paced and extremely interesting. I like how the author has used good strong women to help the marshals make the trip. I found the women to be my favorite characters in the story. Each of them is well trained in living in the wild and how to care for themselves and others. I enjoyed reading of the groups trip through the mountain and the dangers they faced.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book, this is my honest review.
US Marshall Owen Riley is finds himself escorting Delaney Bridger and her brother, to their father in Fort Russell, with a prisoner in tow, while they try to stay one step ahead of the outlaws on their trail.
The first in a brand new series set in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado territory. A full cast of characters, with three main plots that converge, and set up for the next book in the series. An engaging western read, full of action and faith. I liked that Delaney and Owen worked together to get their group safely to the fort, bonding over their shared faith. There is a lot going on, with the story being told from multiple viewpoints.
An action packed read that was hard to put down, as they travel across the mountains. I admired their determination and perseverance, pushing towards their destination against the odds. I'm excited to find out what happens next to Stella and Tex! Hard to put down, page turning adventure. Highly recommend!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
When the first sentence of a book explains that "a bullet whizzed past him, so close he felt the heat of it", you know that riveting adventure is ahead. Riveting, indeed, because the danger is real and it never seems to end! Two U.S. Marshals believe they can safely deliver a prisoner and two people in need of protection to Fort Russell within the week, but nature and the prisoner's outlaw family turn it into a challenge they may be unable to overcome!
Author Mary Connealy has a knack for creating unforgettable characters, page-turning drama, and heartwarming romance. Delaney and Owen's relationship is the main focus, but a large cast of characters and the realistic hardships of the Colorado wilderness produce additional interest and conflict.
I enjoyed Ambush of the Heart and look forward to the other books in the Rocky Mountain Marshals series. I recommend this book to all who enjoy historical Christian romance.
I received a complimentary copy from the author, publisher, and NetGalley. There was no obligation for a positive review.
The author delivers a wonderful western theme story with outlaws, danger and everything you would expect in a Wild West book. I love the humor that the author includes in her books and feel like it’s her signature spread across the pages.
Delaney is a spit fire to say the least. You would think she would shy away from guns blazing, but she seems to thrive on running right into those bullets as they fly by. She stands her ground and is one fierce young woman. I love a strong female character and boy is Delaney that.
Owen has his hands full transporting an escaped prisoner with other Marshalls along with keeping track of Delaney and her brother. The journey is very eventful as a group is trying to save the escapee from jail. I could picture the horses as they raced across the land with dust flying. At the center of the story is a blossoming relationship. There is a definite faith element in the book which I love reading. Who will survive when an ambush happens?
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Ambush of the Heart has all the elements that I've come to expect from a Mary Connealy novel: plenty of action, handsome tough heroes, feisty women, low down bad guys, faith, romance, and bits of humor. Delaney and her brother Boone Bridger are being escorted by several Marshals who are taking an escaped prisoner to Ft. Russell. The prisoner's family doesn't take kindly to this which causes much trouble and grief. Marshals Owen Riley, Morgan Sawyer, and Tex Mitchel have worked together on several missions. Joining them this time are Marshal Marley Tweedt and Deputy Marshal Stan Ross. One of them won't survive an ambush. What should have been a relatively quick trip ends up taking weeks full of peril. One caveat: this book doesn't completely wrap up the story so be prepared to be anxiously awaiting the next book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Ambush of the Heart and recommend it. I received a complimentary copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.
