That was the last advice Scout's Grandma Nora gave her before she died. Scout has spent her life trying to be anything but, but she has a chance to start anew as she moves several states away to college. She had always thought the glowing aura she saw around some people was a childhood fancy, but when it starts coming back just as she's starting her new life, she learns there was much hidden about who she truly is.
Thankfully, she has a motley crew to help her along the way: a spunky bookseller, a trustworthy pub owner, a commanding grandmother, a possible best friend, and a hot rocker boy who only has eyes for her.
Bonus: “Witches, and Werewolves, and Unicorns, Oh My!” By Elizabeth Kirke: A More than Magic Series Short Story— Exclusively written for Unless You Can Be a Unicorn
Delphina has been writing since she can remember and has always had a love of the paranormal. She is an avid reader and a self proclaimed shifter crack addict. Delphina currently lives in the Midwest with her husband and four kids. Her novel, Unless You Can Be A Unicorn, is set to release early October. You can get a glimpse of Scout's world in "Always Be Yourself", which is a part of the anthology, Certain.
As a girl who loves all things paranormal, especially the unique paranormal this was fantastic.
First thoughts: I thought this was a sweet NA Paranormal romance, with adventure, unique characters, creatures, and the beginning of a really kickass series. This is the first and there was a lot of introductory things but it also opened up this world to so many possibilities and this book itself had a great pace that kept you wanting to go on. I thought it was really amazing
Thoughts on Plot: I so appreciated that the fact this book started out with a death *sorry* and it wasn't just brushed under the rug without the first two chapters, which seems to happen...alot. So this made me pretty excited. In the sense that yeah it was constant. Alright sooooo moving on from that awkwardness. Like i said before this was the first book in a series, and the MC doesn't know about her anything about the paranormal world so we are introduced to it. I think there were a few new things that i was a little confused about only because they were such close concepts but i loved that there were new concepts in this book. A lot of times its interesting coming across new types of paranormals or a twist on a common paranormal but that is where it ends. While there wasn't a whole lot of shifting in this book, it doesnt mean there wasn't "paranormaly" things going on. Again like i said good pace and considering we were learning a lot i thought it was well done. I enjoyed the relationships in this book. I am a Lachlan girl all the way - honestly i think its the name....story for a different time XD - but i liked all the relationships presented in this book. I thought i had some things figured out and i thought i had called some twist but i was wrong which was pleasantly surprising as well.
Characters: I thought the full cast was wonderful and I am going to focus mostly on Scout and Pierce
Scout: was adorkable and i loved her. I loved the omgod i can't believe i am going to use this word again but unique-ness that was her. She wasn't the run of the mill main character which is something i truly love. While she might not have been the "badass-asskicking-in-our-face" heroine she was still fantastic. She was charming, sweet, a little awkward but who isn't? I loved how real she felt and overall she was loyal, sweet, and was willing to stand up for what she believed in. I thought she was a great character.
Pierce: He was a little harder for me to pin down, everyone said he was an ass, he even said it a few times but all i saw was a sweet loving, has the best one liners ever, charming main man. i thought that he was a good pair for Scout. While she was awkward and babbling at times, he was forward, direct and unafraid. over all - swoony boy
The ending: Good. Definitely waiting for the next one please and thank you
2.5 stars -- well crapballs. I hate it when I don't end up enjoying a book that my friends have enjoyed...makes me wonder about myself. I really should have just DNF'd it, then I wouldn't have to give it a rating, b/c I almost rounded up b/c I feel guilty for not enjoying something others did.
It was the writing style for this one. Well, not just that, but that was a biggie. Hence why I should have DNF'd it, b/c sometimes you can just tell when you're not going to be a match you know? But it had UNICORNS PEOPLE! I wanted to like it! So what about the writing style? It felt repetitive to me in the beginning. And the way the dialogue worked out, it was kind of hard to follow. It's partly a consequence of the main character -- she and her roommate are both quite rambly. But I felt like it bled into other character's dialogue too. So what you would end up having was a big long monologue from one character, potentially asking a bunch of stuff, and then the other character would answer and proceed to address each point the original character made...if that makes sense. It just got to be tiring, and maybe I was just too tired to get into that.
I also found this one extremely slow to start...unless it was just me, I felt like there wasn't any type of real conflict until about 60% in. I know there's a lot to establish, but I guess I got bored.
And this point is going to sound uber stupid, but it just felt overly sweet and happy? I don't know how to describe it, but there was so much niceness that it didn't feel realistic....gosh, now I sound like a big grump. Maybe I am....this isn't the first book that's been this way and I haven't enjoyed it.
And *sigh*...unfortunately I did not feel enough *initial* chemistry between Scout and Pierce. Eventually it got better, but I honestly didn't feel their connection in the beginning, and I guess I prefer to think that regardless of soulmate (or solas) type stuff, the characters would still have fell for each other...and I didn't feel as much of that.
I'm sad just writing all of this. I DID really enjoy the world that was created, and the explanation of the Unicorns and all that. Sometimes the special powers confused me a bit, but I think that was just me. I actually really loved Lachlan...and the unicorn shirts killed me. I felt more chemistry between him and Val too.
I think I'm just going to stop. *shrugs* Obviously I am but one person, so hopefully very few people feel like I did. B/C I want a unicorn book to have success...UNICORNS!!!
It's not hard to have a favorite character in this book, but I can promise you that readers' favorites will be across the board. Pierce balances between sweet uncertainty and confidence in his relationship with Scout. Scout is almost always confused, but determined to push through no matter what. Lachlan's shirts crack me up. Val has been broken so deeply, but finds her family in this unlikely crew. Grammy is a firecracker. Dara is spunky and caring. Gavin and Abigail hold the promise of mysteries to be revealed.
Who will like this book? If you love Quinn Loftis's The Grey Wolves series for its sassy protagonists... you will love the cast of Unless You Can Be A Unicorn.
If you love the world building of Elizabeth Kirke's More than Magic series... you will love delving into the world of unicorns.
If you love Chelsea Fine's Archers of Avonlea because you know what it feels like to have more questions than answers... you will love following Scout as she discovers who she is and who she wants to be.
I was given an ARC of 'Unless You Can Be a Unicorn' from Delphina Henley, in exchange for an honest review.
WOW what a story, a different set of shifters... 'Unless You Can Be a Unicorn' was my introduction to shifter Unicorns! I loved how Delphina also threw in some other paranormals (well that were mentioned), wolf shifters, vamps & even a dragon... 'Unless You Can Be a Unicorn' is book 1 in Delphina's "B3" series, I highly advise you start right here, especially if your a paranormal genre lover.
Scout is a fairly quiet character at the start, trying to hide her true self, growing up seeing people glow, being told to act normal, will do that, & then slowly getting over the passing of her much beloved grandma. Moving to go to college (the same college as her Grandma went) in a small town, Scout finally makes her first friend in Val, who shows Scout around town & con's her into hitting B3, a bar/book shop/cafe (so need 1 where I live) to watch, much a loved local band......
I will not ruin this adventure for you, you HAVE to read it for yourself. I found the storyline to be fun, it was interesting to see the developement of Scout & Val as friends, then the big announcement of who Scout is, also Scout's love life gets pretty intense. Que the drama & powers slowly leaking through, throw in some hunters.... Thank you Delphina for an entertaining tale (preferably rainbow & sparkled).... I do hope there is more to come for this, I want to know about all the characters... does Scout finilly get all her powers?? does Lachlan become all lovey-dovey?? I NEED TO KNOW!!
Also at the end of the book was Delphina's..... The Dragons.... I was excited to start reading 'The Dragons' as I absolutely FLOVE Delphina's "B3" series. 'The Dragons' is book 4 of the "Dynamis in New Orleans" series, a multi author collaboration. I haven't read any of the other books in this series so far, but really got into this story & would love to read them, when I get the time too. 'The Dragons' tells a tale of finding true love and the sacrifice one is prepared to make to keep what you love safe. Adeen grows up knowing her purpose in life, her clan propares her for that, then a after dream she to New Orleans, where she meets some unique paranormals.
"Sleepless night! Could not stop reading this book!" This is such a incredible and whimsical Shape shifter romance!. It has Amazing Characters in it!. And a really charming story line!. Scout is a spunky young woman who is not like other people. Every sense she was little she could see glowing people no one else could see. The only person who believed her was her grandmother Nora. This review is for all those people who read the title, Unless You Can Be A Unicorn, and balked at the work of art Delphina Henley has given us. I, like you, had my doubts. I implore you to look beyond your first impressions and read this book. You will not be sorry.
On the surface it is a paranormal/fantasy romance. But once you start peeling back the layers, you find Scout, a lonely college freshman who just wants to be normal. But what is normal? Who says seeing glowing people and unicorns is not the norm? Follow Scout on her journey of self-discovery, first love, and what normal is to her.
The author in her #sneakilyobvious way has given the reader food for thought. Someone should not be shunned for being themselves. Everyone should be accepted for who he or she is.
Now aside from this, author Delphina Henley has woven a beautiful romantic tale. True to her form, it has shifters, unicorns, vamps and lots of sexual innuendo. We would expect nothing less. This book flowed like sitting down and having a conversation with your best friend.
I am giving this book 5 Stars. I only wish it were suitable for a younger audience because of the positive message it gives. Be yourself. Be your fabulous self. Nothing more. Nothing less. My favorite line in the book:
“You are not now, nor have you ever been just plain normal. You are what normal aspires to be.” ~Pierce to Scout
*I was provided a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
This one is a work of art! Delphina Henley takes a story and weaves it around the characters so well that you are feeling every emotion that they are feeling; fear, joy, exhilaration...love. I couldn't put this one down and I read it in a 24 hour period. I am already impatiently waiting for the next one! Love at first sight is always a favorite of mine and when our main character Scout heads off for her Freshman year she is looking for normal- which is 100% not what she is. Scout sees things, things she does not understand. Scout goes out for what is seemingly to be a fun evening with her roommate- and she finds much more than she bargains for- she finds him or did he find her??
Scout does not realize at first just how their lives are entwined or just how much she had needed to find this new "family" of hers, but once she does find them she learns more about herself than anything and she learns what it means to belong.
I would love to see a little bit more towards the end as far as the action goes, but this in no way shapes my opinion of the story or how the reality of Scout's life made me feel. You simply MUST get this book when it comes out and you MUST tell me.... Do you believe in Unicorns? ~
There was a lot of potential, I was just dissapointed. Very anitclimatic , realistic in many situations and thought process not like when you watch tv and you see all the plot holes. It needs to go to an editor one more time only a two plot holes - easy fixes and as few misspelling or weird sentences that seemed stunted.
The characters were...good. I enjoyed that she never just bam mastered her powers and how to use them is the strongest or anything like that. butt like huge butt here-the romance was WAY too fast just like 'oh your a jerk' and then bam! 'your my soulmate'. 'oh I think I want to wait for sex' and then bam! 'I love you.' 'oh you do? I guess lets have sex since it's our first real date and you said that after I told you I wanted to wait and you also gave me a necklace'...yeah ok suuuuuuuuuure.
I really wanted to know more about other characters and there was things that really did make the book worth it. From what I understand it's a stand-alone but it felt off. the epilogue was like only a few months after and it was just...lame. Family issues were not addressed, val and her family stuff as well, her powers never emerged really, just toooons of strings hanging everywhere that needed to be tied off. It's not like with Dicksen where everyone was living a life and you just dropped in and saw events and people and then left knowing their lives went on and on.
Unless you can be a unicorn is the story of Scout and the complete reboot of her life after the death of her much loved grandmother.
My rating for this book is 2.5 stars
+This review contains spoilers.+
I picked this book out for the sole reason that my daughter is obsessed with Unicorns and I thought perhaps it could be a good book we read together at some point... I was in essence screening it I guess.
Unless you can be a unicorn is the story of Scout and the complete reboot of her life after the death of her much loved grandmother. Scout has always know there was something different about her, seeing people and objects glow and having premonitions come true is not something common and not a trait that she shares with anyone else she knows she apart from her grandmother. Having throughout her life been encouraged by her grandmother to keep her powers hidden Scout has a so far led a pretty lonely life. After her Grandmothers death Scouts discovers that her grandmother had left her note and a box of items including a bag of her special home brewed tea mixture. It’s not until she moves to a live in dormitory at a small collage that she actually reads the note from her grandmother telling her she was wrong in the way she had taught Scout to be and that Scout should have always been honest with and about herself - Later on Scout also finds out her grandmother had been suppressing her powers with a special tea concoction.
At her new college Scout quickly makes friends with her new roomie (a girl with a love for babbling that virals her own) and soon makes friends with a group of people she saw glowing as she entered her new college (area). This new group of friends Scout makes tell her about her powers and inform her that she is most likely a unicorn (like them) which is in some ways like a type of lycanthrope however when they turn into the animal they keep their sense of self, also they do not have to be horses with horns but can be any animal with a magical horn. Scout also finds out that many other mythical creatures she has read about are real and living in the same world as her such a vampires and werewolves - not all these creatures are so friendly and in fact there are a group of people known as hunters who track down Unicorns to turn/sell the magic in the horn for profit. – These are more as an immediate and hidden danger and as a seer/protector Scout is their defence against them… Defence in that scout is the only one who can see the hunters for who they are and warn the others.
One member of this group is of particular interest to Scout - a very attractive guy named Pierce. Pierce is not only the lead singer of a successful band but also a talented academic orphan who attends her college. Upon Scouts second meeting Pierce he proclaims she is his Solas (true love) and later tells her that she can walk away from him and reject his love if she wants but he’ll never love anyone again and he won’t let her go without a fight.. Not that Scout has any intention of fighting.
Unfortunately I found this book very slow. Scout as a protagonist bored me silly, I think it may have been because I found her power to be so under whelming – seeing people glow is not my idea of an exciting power, I know as the book crawls along we find out that maybe she has more power hidden away inside herself and I guess that will be explored in later books but for the duration of this book it isn’t. I also had no fondness for the love story, it was far too quick and shallow a union, neither Scout nor Pierce were bubbly charming or engaging to me – the idea that babbling is a quirky personality trait and not something annoying is a trope I’ve never understood and Pierce seems to switch between teenage boy and turn of the century Vampire, in both his dialect and behaviour, at will - which I found confusing.
The plot / story line I found very slow as well. I found myself skim reading a lot, there was a lot of flat dialog and day to day living without much happening that interested me, I kept expecting something to happen but unfortunately I was like 30% through the book before anything remotely interesting did happen and then it was again another slow build to the next event, however saying that my biggest bug bare was the sudden ending… out of know where vampires came saved the day and a guy turned into a dragon.. It was like WOAH… why weren’t we reading and learning about those characters, which bring me onto the side characters – I really enjoyed Grammy and some of the other friends Scout had made. I felt though they definitely needed more time spent developing them, Val was interesting to me I wanted to know more about her story but she was kind of shoved aside a lot which annoyed me – same with the other characters really.
Overall the book was not offensive, it was well written in that the sentences followed scenes led onto each other nicely and it was easy to read. The whole story its self was fine (there was a lot of potential for sure) I can see how some people would like it, I know a lot of people like a romance singular character heavy story and enjoy a slow build, I believe the next book will be better set up and I can see how a great second book could come from this, just unfortunately this book didn’t really capture/hold my interest or imagination, the ending was very anti-climactic and confusing to me and I would of preferred more time spent with the side characters.
Couldn't put it down loved the characters and the storyline and can't wait to read more in this series so it's a well deserved five stars and I would recommend it to everyone
Scout has always been the odd child, when she was young everyone thought she was crazy. She would randomly see people glowing and as a child would do, she wasn't afraid to mention it. Her Grandmother took care of her the majority of her life, so it really took a toll on Scout when her Grandmother passed away and left her a note to explain some stuff she hid from Scout.
Moving off to live in a college dorm opens Scout's eyes. She's starting to see the glowing around certain people again. She's not sure why she's seeing this all of a sudden again and is concerned. That doesn't stop her from quickly becoming BFF's with her new roommate. Her new roommate Val, talks her into going to see a band and that's where everything takes off. Scout meets the group of people that owns the bookstore/bar that is throwing the concert and she manages to score a job interview.
When she shows up to the job interview, her eyes are opened to a whole new world. She's forced to see that unicorns do exist, that paranormal creatures like unicorns are what is causing her to see the glow around people. Her destiny is revealed, and Scout has to accept and learn everything she can.
I will admit this story will bother quite a few readers, it has the insta love/soul mates early on in the book. I'm not bothered by that much at all and actually enjoyed the book. I'd like to see some of the characters expanded upon a bit more, but the main character Scout was fleshed out quite well. I'd say this isn't really a romance even though it has the instalove/soulmates thrown in, it's more of a Paranormal New Adult book. If you're looking to try a unicorn book, I highly suggest Unless You Can Be a Unicorn.
I loved this book. I am a huge fan of unicorns, have been all my life, and to read a story like this was just wonderful. It was a totally different take on what you always imagine a unicorn would be. If you have an awesome imagination this book is for you. Yes it's magical and a bit dark with a touch of love thrown in the mix. The characters were great. I looooved Lachlan and his crazy t-shirts. Yep, you have to read it to get that one.
So, the story is based on a young girl who never quite fit in. She always had to hide who she was because let's be honest, seeing people glow is just not normal in our society right? Scout was adorably clueless. She knew she was always different but never knew to what extent until she met pierce and his family. Pierce was the hot rocker boy. He was a bit of a jerk at first but you grow to love him. My love for bad boys wanted to see him be a little more of the rocker dude but that wasn't who he was. Pierce had a fierce side but the love of his Solas made him totally swoon worthy. Now Val, she was a total awesome girl. A bit tally but that was Val. ;) I loved all the characters so much. The family was so totally loveable and the story was even better. I got my fill of love, magic and deceit all in one neat little package.
A great book for any reader. If you love paranormal and are looking for something a little different you want to read this.
All the good stuff went unexplained. I got really tired of the dialog since is was mostly filled with overly sweet declaration that left my kindle feeling sticky. I really, really wanted to enjoy this. The concept intrigued me from the get, I mean, who doesn't love unicorns? They have swords on their heads and they never leave home without them. Horses are pretty damn awesome (Ride one at a full gallop before you try to argue that point.), but unicorns are just badass. Well, that is unless they've been written to be about as appealing as that smacky sound a dog makes as he's licking his balls.
Here's the thing, I think the author had an amazing idea and executed to at a ho-hum level. I think she missed an opportunity by mostly focusing on the snappy romance aspect. I wanted there to be more world building. All the best stuff was left out. Like what exactly is she? What is her role and what does that entail? And if your gonna drop the "oh you, too, are a unicorn" bomb that I expect to see that happen in the book. Also, why weren't her powers explored more in the book. I don't like the "oh you have them, we don't know what the are yet, but one day we will." It seems like such a cop out.
So, in summary, it was just ok but worth the read if you like unicorns. It was a new subject matter for me. On the plus side thanks to the author's love of another author and totally geeking out with a reference, I found another great read. So thanks for that!

UNLESS YOU CAN BE A UNICORN by Delphina Henley
Scout had spent her life trying to be normal, but never quiet fit in. She moves away to start anew, at a college far away from her home town. Scout has always known she was different, and when her Grandma Nora dies and leaves her a letter, explaining things. But it's not until she makes some new friends and meets her solas, that things start to fall into place, and she starts to realise that been different isn't necessarily a bad thing. Always be yourself.
This book is so quirky and random, you just have to love it. This was such a unique read. The storyline was interesting and quiet different to other shifter stories I've read and I loved the dialogue between all the characters. There were so many different characters in this story but they all played a part and they were all very likable. Pierce and Scout were just the sweetest couple. I did however find myself lost at times, the story was a little confusing and a bit all over the place in certain areas. But nevertheless it was still a captivating read. There are a few more stories to tell within this book and I hope we get to read them. Very interesting and enjoyable book!
I'm a huge lover of any story containing unicorns, and was excited at the prospect of a story about unicorn shapeshifters. Sadly, no matter how intrigued I was by the plot and concept of this book, I could not get past the awkward writing style littered with clichés and simple grammar errors.
That being said, I am very picky about writing style, and know that I'm more sensitive to it than most. I feel like this would be a great recommendation for anyone in the 12-14 range who might be reading this more for just the story and won't pay as close attention to the grammatical errors or language style choices. Although the cover makes this look a little like it's a steamy romance, the romance is pretty clean - especially considering the main characters are in college. There's some kissing, and a lot of talk about more, but nothing beyond kissing really happens.
The way the title of this book is phrased makes it sound like it's part of a series, but at this time, I don't plan to continue with the series. Overall, a very disappointing result to a book I was initially enthusiastic about reading.
I so enjoyed the story of a young woman discovering who she really is on her journey to a very different life. Scout has always felt different and knew she could see things others could not. She relied on her grandma for guidance and kept her unusual experiences from others. It kept her isolated. With her grandmother's death and her move to start college, she is filling pretty lost. Luckily, she begins to see signs that guide her to people who will be important elements of her new life. There is a very sweet love story that is just starting as well. The real focus is on learning about her abilities. I look forward to reading more about Scout and her new family and friends. There are so many stories to tell and so much more for her to learn. There are so many great characters in the story and they each deserve a story of their own too. I was so excited to see how it ended that I read it in one sitting.
The bonus dragon shifter story is a sweet paranormal romance. It involves a female dragon shifter sent on an important mission during which she discovers a real home and the love she has always dreamed of having.
I was so lucky and got an early copy of this amazing and fun story! All these characters are so relate-able and loveable! So fun and quirky, I found that I have a few funny words and silly antics in common with them. Plus I love some of the same books they love!! This book starts with Scout, trying to find a place to read a letter from her best friend, her grandma that has just passed. Signs of the un-ordinary are everywhere, but just 2 lines in is all she makes it before the bomb is dropped. Everything is about to change, can Scout handle it? She leaves for college and hopes to find some answers. But with answers come more questions. She meets Val, her new roommate who couldn't be better matched for her, and some new friends that are just what she needs. I can't really go into much more without giving away so much greatness, but I have just one word.....Pierce ;)I also love that at the end, you get a nice clean wrap up, with expectations for another book to come, without that feeling of incompleteness. Amazing first book for an up and coming author! I can't wait for more!
A magical adventure of a girl who thought she was ordinary until she read a letter from her late grandmother. Going to college to get away from it all and have some fun. Well what Scout would call fun. Scout sees things like a glow around people stronger than before. When she gets into town a sign draws her attention to a bookstore with her name on it, advertising a job opening. How weird is that. But how weird will only get weirder as she goes through the town and meets all types of people. One in particular catches her eye... Pierce. What she thinks is a crush is so much more after talking to his Grammy. And finding out about her past and what everyone is, in real life besides being human most of the time. But dark forces are moving in trying to find out who is who and possibly to kill a unicorn if they can. Will they succeed and find out there is more than just one? Or will they send them packing?
I picked up this book because of my favorite authors recommended it and plus, unicorns. And I love unicorns! This is a really cute short read that I loved. I love the world that the author has created and am so hoping there will be more of the B3 novels because I fell in love. The world that has been created is one that I've always dreamed of living in and while I may not be able to really live in a world where people are really unicorns and other mythical creatures such as shape shifters and vampires, I'm more than happy to read about it. I love all the characters in this story, especially Scout and Val. Both of them are so relatable and I feel like I would be BFF with them both. And I so love Gammy. I would love to have a cup of tea with her anytime! I will be keeping my eyes open for books by this author and hopefully more in this series!
"Always be yourself unless you can be a unicorn - then be a unicorn.". Scout is headed off to college in Scotia New Hampshire which seems a world away from where she grew up in Michigan. She is looking forward to starting a new existence without the leftovers of her old life. New experiences, new friends, except things aren't always what they seem and she has some carryover she wasn't prepared for. Good thing she finds a whole new set of friends and family that can help her along and adjust to what she has been missing and boy is it a doozy! "That was not a dream, that was my future.". Fate has a way of bringing things that you need and not necessarily what you want, but Scout gets both in Pierce. Great world building and a few twists and turns to keep things interesting. Enjoy! I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Before she passes away Scott's grandma gives her a letter that will forever change her life not just her views on the things she's seen but how she will interact with the things she sees she has the gift of seeing those from the other side of the veil like demons and vampires and of all things unicorns as a child she had to design the things she saw her grandmother would make her a daily tea that would help her not see the unusual things but know her grandmother is gone and she more journey forth into this new world with her eyes wide open because she isn't safe to remain blind to the things that are happening in front of her I loved this book I couldn't put it down 5 gold stars it's worth every penny
I was gifted this book when I commented that I wanted to know the meaning behind such an odd title. The title works for the novel, but the story never quite grabbed me like I wanted.
The main character is a relatively young and inexperienced woman. Her tendency to just ramble made it difficult to get through sections at time. The romance had little tension. The external stress for the plot felt rushed and added in the last third of the book.
Still, the world setting had quite the bit of potential, and if you are looking for a quick and easy read, and enjoy slightly older YA this book is for you.
By page 15 I was ready to stop reading, but thought I would give it another chance. By page 32 I gave up. Couldn't get into it at all which Is sad because it had promise and it had a unicorn theme which was cool and different . The writing just put me off big time. I felt like everything was just so jumbled and not well written. Too much or something, like the dialogue needed to be shorter. Hated the babbling. Not a fan of not finishing books but was glad to stop this one. I actually expected more 1 star reviews so I guess I can't see what the majority see in this book. I could get on board with this book if it was written better. Oh well. On to the next book.
This is a terrific fantasy and whimsical paranormal story about Unicorns. This is the first book I've read about Unicorns. Loved all the quirky and adorable characters (especially Scout and Pierce and beloved Grammy) which made this story so adorable. I've always been fascinated by Unicorns and so glad I was given the chance to read a story about them. I do so hope there will be more Unicorn stories from this author - it would make a nice series on all the characters. Delphina did a fantastic job.
This book was a gift from the author for an honest review.
Don't let the title put you off, this is a quick, enjoyable, easy read with likeable characters and a entertaining story line. Scout is a college freshman who has tried all her life to be normal, but when her grandma dies she begins to see people glowing once again. She finds friends, true love and a place to belong at the B3 bookshop/bar/restaurant, that just happens to be owned by unicorns! A paranormal romance (and for more than just the main protagonists) with a slice of humour, a little intrigue and few surprises mixed in for luck!
Story is of Scout her Grandmother’s last words to her were Always Be Yourself Scout has always seen glowing auras around people but since she was younger they have not been as strong. Now she has moved away to college they are getting stronger. In a box of secrets her Grandmother left her world is about to change , with the help of her room mate Val , the B3 group and Pierce, a hot rocker, are just a few of the people who come into her life to help her.Very good book ! I was gifted a copy for an honest review barwatts@telus.net
This book was such a fun, and mystical adventure where I couldn't put the book down. It was fresh and interesting take on the paranormal. The characters were very likable and the plot held my attention page per page. Definitely worth my time! I love it when I read a book that I feel is worth my time and pulls me into the story, where I just don't want to get out of the world that was created. Great job Delphina!
I really enjoyed this story and hope there will be more to come! I had a hard time putting this book down once I got into the story and finished it in just a few sittings. I have really enjoyed watching how the main character grew in this story and all the connections she made. I can't wait for there to be another book about all the characters I was introduced to in this book!! I would be deeply disappointed if there is not another unicorn book in the near future.
I loved this book, but I also have a thing for unicorns. I really enjoyed that this also had a bit of a darker side side to it and wasn't just the typical virgin sees unicorn book. I really enjoyed that they had different powers and could do different things with them.
I want more from this world. I want to know what happens next with everyone and I also totally want to know more about several of the characters. :) I was given an arc for an honest review.
I love this story. I was given this story in exchange for an honest review. I truly enjoyed reading this story it has amazing characters that are well developed with emotional depth. The story is filled with surprises and wonderfully written plot twists with intrigue, suspense and drama to create a terrific storyline. All in all an amazing story I would recommend to anyone with a love for Paranormal Romance.
