This book was a snoozefest of epic proportions!

First, someone has been smoking the KA Motorcycle Man pipe, and Austin was no Tack, in fact, I think Tack's shoe might have had more charisma then the H in this book! I think the heroine was suppose to come across as funny, and feisty, but really she was just annoying. The plot was all over the place, we had the evil money stealing ex, we had the obligatory bad guys kidnapping the h, and of course we had..wait for it..the nasty jealous club whore that drapes her nasty naked body out on the H's bed for the h to find and jump to the wrong conclusion. I haven't read that plot device before. *insert sarcasm*

BORING BORING BORING and I don't feel compelled in the least to read anymore in this series!

I LOVED this book.

I absolutely loved this book, I'm not saying it's perfect because it's not but every so often, in my experience anyway, a book will come along which just 'fits' and this book is one of them for me, it's a book I'll re-read again and again it's gone into my 'go to' section, the books I turn to when I have a bad run and can't seem to find anything to read, other books in this section include 'Shade's Fall' and 'At Peace' think there must be about twenty in there now.
Back to the book, the synopsis is good so there's no point me saying much more about that, Dani and Booker live different lives, they're two people who under normal circumstances would never meet, but they do and the attraction is instant but, and we have a bit of a 'Pride and Prejudice' thing going on here, my favourite book of all time so it's little wonder I loved this so much, anyway, I digress, Dani has a low opinion of bikers and despite her obvious attraction to Booker she feels it's wrong. Now Booker is so much more than he appears, he's hot, good looking, a biker, and that should be enough there but he's also tall, intelligent, a gentleman, rich, considerate..let's face it he's just about the perfect man.
The writing, especially the early conversations between Booker and Dani have a very Kristen Ashley feel to them, it's all 'babe' and 'darlin' I loved it.
I wish the book had been longer certain parts felt a bit rushed plus I would have liked more, it's a very light MC book more of a romance really with an MC background, bits of it were implausible, I mean seriously with her family and friends did no one check out the ex, but to me it didn't matter I loved this book so much so I think I'm going to re-read it again now.

I don't usually like mc books but I actually enjoyed this one. I love how alpha Booker/Austin was. Dani got on my nerves a bit in the beginning. I felt she was very judgmental and too righteous but she came around and grew on me. The little bit of OW drama didn't bother me because Austin puts it to right straight away and that's just how I like it. On to book 2...

Danielle Harris aka Dani is heading home from a bad blind date. She gets turned around and her car gives out on her and so does her phone. While sitting in her car in a sketchy unfamiliar area, Austin Carver aka Booker comes to her rescue. Austin is instant taken with Dani and decides to make her his. Dani is hesitant due to him being a biker, her sheltered upbringing and due to a previously relationship that went totally bad. Austin won't let her push him away especially when he finds out she is in danger.

Okay I did like some things in this but what ended up making this bad to me was Dani. She came across very judgmental and even rude in the beginning to me. She wanted people to take her seriously and to treat her like an adult but she did things that were very childish too. So for the most part she became more annoying for me than likable like that. The hero bothered me with not just telling her things. I get club business but he often just avoid things but got better later. I don't know I really wanted to like it and the sister helped with her behavior to a degree but some things just still bothered me and took it down more. I would call this one a biker lite book. Nothing too dark or intense. I really think some would really love this though but maybe it was how she kept coming across that killed me in liking it more.

Cute enough story but it was too sweet and fluffy for a biker romance. The writing style also tried to copy a little too much from Kristen Ashley but didn't pull it off. I still enjoyed the read overall though.

I loved this book! At first I thought it would be a little cheesy quick steamy read. I so need to quit jumping to conclusions! Yeah it was a little less serious and I saw another reviewer said "mc-lite" which I agree with. It didn't delve too deep into the club life, more like skated the edge of it. But everything about it was fun. Dani was super funny and witty, if a bit naive. Booker was a hot, protective alpha biker who knew with one look he was gonna be into her. There was a bit of insta-love, but what made it bearable was that even though their relationship happened quickly, they didn't jump into bed together. Dani made Booker wait so they had time to get to know each other even though they both felt the pull and fell for each other fast. There was a little bit of drama to keep thing interesting and we also got to meet quite a few side characters that I can't wait to read more about. All in all, a great shortish book that I will definitely recommend. I'll also be reading the next in this series!

This was a pretty good read. I liked it, but didn't love it. The H was smitten with the h and wasn't with anyone after meeting her- although we find out he was with a club whore a few days before meeting her. That club whore later tries to make trouble in an over the top way. He didn't give specifics when the h asked about his sexual past- he just told her she wouldn't want to know how many hookups he had before her. That makes my mind go cuckoo thinking it is hundreds. Anyway, for an MC it was pretty tame and a fine, quick read. Other than feeling squeamish about his past it is safety gang safe

If any biker romance can be termed sweet, this one is it. Oh, don’t get me wrong. It packs the heat, sass, alpha bad boy, and danger in between its covers, but its tone is sweeter and less grit and dirt if you feel me. It has the flavor of many of my favorites out there in biker romance world and shows the author has a true love and appreciation like the best of us fans. I actually don’t mind my biker romances to fall on this end of the spectrum and it gave me a little nostalgic smile to recognize the character and tone of the story so I’m definitely on board with where this new series is going.

Okay, well I’m going to actually back up and say ‘new spin-off series’ because there are some cross over characters from the Guardian series. The other series doesn’t need to be read first to appreciate this one and I actually haven’t read it yet myself- on the future agenda though.

So this one opens with sweet and pert, Danielle Harris breaking down on the side of the road in the industrial side of town at night sans cell phone because it was on the list along with her piece of junk car that she was meaning to get to when the money sitch looked better. She is still digging out of the financial and emotional hole she got herself into because the first time baby girl spread her wings and landed a guy she picked a real doozy who used her and took her for all she had. Her family is strong, supportive and willing to help her, but she wants to prove to herself and them that she will fix her own messes. Meanwhile, here she sat in her dead car with her dead phone after a crappy first date that bored her to tears. Then her knight in shining biker cut appears to help her out. Booker brings her to one of the club’s legit businesses so she can make arrangements for his guys to work on her car and let her best friend know she’s alright. Booker alias Austin Carver ends up dropping her home, but not before the tingles begin and the sparks fly back and forth. He makes it clear that the interest in mutual and she’ll be seeing him and seeing him often.

Austin ‘Booker’ Carver can’t believe what just happened to him. The moment he clapped eyes on Dani Harris he was well and caught. The curvy, cute little blond kindergarten teacher complicated by her family all being in law enforcement including her dad as a police chief is from a whole other world and by the end of the night he knows that she is his- his woman. Now to make this clear to Dani and to make it all work between her and his loyalty to his brothers in the MC.

Everything starts happening fast and Dani keeps the handbrake on their attraction as Austin pushes her hard and fast. He knows exactly what he wants, but she’s been burned and she doesn’t want to end up there again. Austin has gotten through and tugged on her heart and he will crush it if this is all him just scratching an itch so slow and steady is the game plan. That is until she meets a vixen with eyes for Austin, learns more about Austin’s world and Austin himself and takes a chance on the honesty in Austin’s eyes and his words. She is falling as fast and hard as Austin. A mistake in her past puts her in the crosshairs of danger- a danger that only Austin and others from his world can handle.

The book was an overall enjoyable reading experience and hit a lot of good points for me. I liked the opposites attract, the infusion of humor, the brotherhood of the MC, Dani’s family, the secondary story line with Hawk and Austin, the club scenes that balance into the whole of the story and the element of danger in the end.

I will say that the story got off to a good start, but then dragged a bit with the forward action leaving off while the world building caught up. The romance development was a good thing, but it was told in isolation of other stuff going on- or at least stuff in the actual scenes. I wasn’t bored, but let’s just say I was more interested when the other element to the story involving the money and possible ransom scheme came into play.

Booker cracked me up with that alpha thing going on. Although, the cave man with the one word imperatives did set my teeth into a grind. High IQ or not, I’m with Dani about his need for a comeuppance. I don’t hold with bratty women or women with the need to debate and argue everything and yes, she knew what the score was with his club, but a little flow of information would have been good. Austin had never been in a real relationship so his learning curve was actually bigger than Dani’s. They were cute to watch even as they scorched up the sheets once they got it all sorted.

As to Dani, I was on the fence about her for about the first third of the book. The opening pages made me picture a ditzy type because of the car and the phone and her tripping all over herself about Austin. But then she seemed to get her feet under her. I really did get why she did and said what she did and why it was important to keep Austin from pushing her. I give her a lot of credit for learning from the past. Her need to be reassured about the club, about Austin and about whether his word was good was what changed my mind about her. She’s a sweet, cuddly thing that has some sexy-kitten in her.

All in all, this spicy yet sweet biker romance was a hit and I would read more of the series. Fans of the milder stories in this niche should give it a go.

My thanks to the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

The couple: Austin (Booker) and Danielle

Romance genre: MC
Series: Dogs of Fire
Length: 225 pages

Plot: Danielle is the police chief's daughter, and a schoolteacher as well - definitely not someone that Booker should be thinking about. But when Dani has car trouble and needs help, Booker can stop himself from helping and claiming her. But her world and his are miles apart, and her father and brother won't want her in the MC circle. But when she is threatened, the trouble isn't coming from the MC, but from elsewhere. Booker is determined to keep her safe, but will she accept what that means for her life?

Commentary: I'm all for an insta-love story - love them, in fact - but this didn't really grab me. The H was not as alpha as he was portrayed, and the h acted like she was fighting back but with no actual backbone - she always gave in, no matter what, even if it was important to her. I did like the opposites attract aspect, but the hero still wasn't that "bad." There was the obligatory "heroine is in danger” subplot, and this one was woven into a bid to make the heroine's family like the hero (because he took charge, found out about the threat, and took it to them - and thus created a series where the MC will cooperate with local law enforcement on occasion and the Feds as well).
It was very coincidental that the heroine's ex who stole her money also happened to be the one putting her in danger and he was going to do the same thing to the daughter of the MC pres, and possibly others. He connected all the previously unknownst-to-each-other characters in the story. That made it a little less believable. But I am still curious to see what happens next in the series.

Next book in the series: Road to Redemption

3.5 stars. This was a fast, sweet, cheesy romance. Very little MC. There was only a moment of a jealous OW incident that was over immediately and the Hero did everything right. Why didn't I rate it higher? It just felt choppy and I had a hard time with the Hero. He did not open up, except one time. You never understood what he did, why all the calls, etc. and that made the heroine look like she had her head in the sand. It wasn't that he really did anything wrong or was creepy, he just did not talk much. A story like this, with really no,triggers, I would normally Love the Hero. Here I am just kind of apathetic about him. I do recommend the read though and know that it will be a fun read for those who are not normally into MC books.

I'm sure I've been high on something when I first read this book, there's no other explanation why I would have given it 4 stars!

Seriously how stupid can one woman possibly be? Dani acts like a 14 year schoolgirl, with her first crush!
Now Booker I like, he was just delicious, I can't figure out what he saw in her!

4.5 stars Very very close to perfection
Heroine: while she was ok she wasn't my ideal. she tried for stubborn and independent but it was really a shallow front because she'd stomp her foot a little then totally give in. she had a lot of insecurities that never seemed to get resolved. and for all the talk of having big boobs she wore a hell of a lot of shelf bras...guess what those don't work for women with big boobs...they're uncomfortable and they don't fit and they offer absolutely no support which leads to neck pain. she was very sweet though and easy to love otherwise just not with any of my favorite characteristics. her initial terms of endearment came off forced but by the end they rang true
Hero: it takes a certain kind of guy to pull off saying "babe"...he totally did it. he was uber yum and even though his obstinance should've pissed me off it had me giggling the whole book. He was alpha in a way i'd probably never tolerate in real life but in fiction world it totally worked for him. He was very protective and it should've rubbed me the wrong way...i found it endearing. He's everything you don't expect in a biker and everything I shouldn't like but i loved him! not thrilled about all the secrecy and manwhoring though
Romance: again these two shouldn't have worked but they totally did. i did really like this couple the back and forth was really amusing. i did expect more friction as their worlds clashed and was a little disappointed that we didn't get that. i did feel like it moved a little fast but not so much that it turned me off them
Sex scenes: yummmmmm. *fans self* very little kink but the scenes totally made up for that. there is oral, light spanking, and many many positions
Plot: I don't read many MC books but this didn't seem like your typical one. I really loved this book. I was loathe to put it down ever. I thought it was very well paced for a shorter book and i devoured it. I also thought this author did a really great job of balancing action and romance for a shortish.
Writing: really solid. i found no errors stylistically or substantively and there was a great flow to it.
Bottom line: so much about this book shouldn't have worked but it totally did. i loved it! this will be in my reread pile and i would definitely read more by this author

Holy FREAKING crap!! So first off let me say that this author is new to me and I am not usually one for MC books, BUT this one is not like any other MC book I have ever read in all the good ways. Ms. Davenport messaged me on Facebook and asked if I would be willing to read and review this one. I was a little leery at first, but then I read an excerpt and was totally hooked. I had to know what was going to happen. It literally drew me in 150% and even though I really was suppose to be reading something else, I dove right in and finished it in one sitting. This book had me from the very beginning and up until the very last page and even though everything was very nicely wrapped in a bow, I wanted there to be more. I fell in love with Dani instantly and then there is the very bossy and extremely sexy, Austin aka Booker. I just couldn't get enough. And truthfully, I really, really want to know who the next book is about and want to read it badly even though I don't know who it's about. This story was just that good! Written to perfection and the characters were very well developed and very real. I could totally picture the characters in my mind and what facial expressions they were making all throughout the book. And the epilogue is absolutely awesome! I really hope Dani and Austin will make many appearances in future books. This is one series I will most definitely be reading!! Great job Ms. Davenport!! I am in love!! This book deserves waaaaaay more than 5 AMAZEBALLS stars!

This was actually my second try with this book. Unfortunately after the first try I'd removed it from my shelves so I could start afresh, definitely not my finest moment!
Booker with his very frequent "babe",f*ck you're cute, greedy and general" feel" is quite similar to Tack.Considering I loved Tack, this similarity brought back fond memories and probably was the only thing I enjoyed about the maybe 45% that I completed. Tacklite, I mean Booker 😂 was by no means the cause of my 2nd dnf of this book.
That honour goes to Dani who has to be the most annoying,judgemental,narrow-minded,superficial and annoying (again)h I've ever read. She immediately,on hearing Booker was in an mc, branded them criminals and decided as she came from a family of law enforcement she couldn't go to the club or be with him. I mean she didn't even wait to experience a shoot out or see a drug deal 😂😂 before she passed judgement. She got on my every nerve for her inconsistency and wishy washy behavior. Every time Booker said "f**k you're cute" after one of her tirades i wondered what the heck he was seeing that I wasn't.
I've been trying my very best to finish all the books I've started lately but I've decided that life is just too short to continue to inflict Dani upon my poor helpless brain,so I'm out. I may try another book in this series because I genuinely love mc books but hopefully the relationship between Dani and I ends here!

DNF

I think I should start some kind of ranking for the dumbest, most annoying, frustrating and immature heroines in the romance fiction.

And when I do that, this one will definitely hit the top 10.

Or even top 5.

Also, the hero was supposed to keep the mentioned idiot at arm's length and yet they were sucking on each other's tonsils an hour after meeting.

So if a book promises one thing and delivers something completely different, I'm not gonna be happy.

Like I'm not happy right now.

Also, the complete lack of maturity among these characters is another nail to its coffin.
I don't understand why authors do that.

I assume they are in their mid to late twenties and yet act like kids in their early teens who are yet to hit puberty.

And I'm supposed to like that?
Fuck no.
I just couldn't.

Hence the 1 star.

I'll try another book from this series and maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Maybe.

Or maybe not.

When Austin "Booker" Carver helps out an innocent if not slightly flighty, Danielle Harris whose car as seen better years he wanted her. Knowing that such a sweet woman had no place in a biker's life, he tried to walk away, but it lasted about five minutes. Austin can't stay away and he plans to claim Danielle, however Danielle's ex has put her in danger and Danielle is not sure she wants to be claimed by a motorcycle man/biker/man.

Pretty funny, everything Danielle knows about bikers are from her imagination and episodes of Son of Anarchy which creates pretty funny dialogue between Austin and her. Austin is patient and even when Danielle rambles he lets her. Loved the beginning to this series.

I'm picky when it comes to biker books because most of the time, they have triggers for me. Like physical or emotional abuse, rape, cheating or menage. I read only few menage books and I don't even like some of them. That's why I love this series because the books are light and sweet and the MCs are loyals. There was no heavy dramas. Just a feel good ones. Been waiting for the fifth book now.

3 Stars ok

Yep another “ok” read. Honestly it was slightly boring and Dani annoyed the hell out of me! Booker aka Austin was sexy but too soft with her esp the first half of book, SHE was a snooze fest lol!

I am curious about the next story though so yes I do plan on continuing with this series eventually just not immediately.

Sweet and quick mc-lite.

What I liked:
1.) Insta-lust where hero pursues heroine after meeting her
2.) Very little ow drama with club whore trying to make trouble but Hero makes it clear that he doesn’t want her and only wants the heroine

Things heat up when a rough motorcycle club member comes to the aid of a stranded kindergarten teacher.

Austin "Booker" Carter is from a troubled background. He's deeply involved with his motorcycle buddies personally and professionally. Danielle Harris is from a family with strong ties to law and order. A case of opposites attract? Not so fast. Underneath his "wrong side of the tracks" demeanor, Austin is a soft-hearted genius. His loyalty to his club isn't blind, it's based genuine love and gratitude. And Dani, though she's wary of Austin's lifestyle and a little too apt to believe stereotypes, has a definite rebellious side.

Piper Davenport does a great job showing the culture clash Austin and Dani face as they fall in love and struggle to see how to build a future together. This whole bad guy/good girl thing could have been a trip to cliche-land. Instead we get realistic characters carrying serious baggage. Austin lived a nightmare childhood in foster care. Dani's first adult relationship left her emotionally bruised and financially bankrupt. Throughout the book, the couple's past struggles haunt their present and threaten their future.

ROAD TO DESIRE provides a near perfect balance of romance and suspense. Austin and Dani face genuinely scary situations. Luckily, there's an entire cast of family and friends to support them as they fight for their happy ending. As a reader, I wanted to climb into the story and become part of the gang.

Like any book worth reading, there are points to debate over. For instance, there's an unfortunate hookup in Austin's recent past that dented my esteem for him. Though he's adult enough to admit he made a bad choice, there's a lot more blame placed on the girl than on him. She's a whore. He was just drunk and horny. Not fair. And it's an attitude that is beneath someone who is otherwise a decent guy--even if the girl is a troublemaker.

On the structural side, a kidnapping near the end is presented awkwardly. I don't want to spoil the plot. Let's just say that readers experience the event in hindsight when we should have been present as it happened and THEN witnessed others learning about it.

This first Dogs of Fire book is a winner...kind of like PRIDE & PREJUDICE with lots leather and motor oil. I am very much looking forward to the next one in the series

We have to say that although this story has a lot of mixed reviews we really enjoy this story as it was just one of those imperfect romance but, it was perfect for this couple in question.

Booker was just one of those arrogant asses who was all alpha and had this dominate personality and was a bit cocky but, extruded confidence all the time and would have no problem at all commandeering a room full of people but, was also caring and loving and protective and sexy as sin and that sexy voice alone was a pantie melt-ter.

Danielle was a bit of a spitfire and was and alpha in her own right so you can just imagine the heated discussions that were full of fire and laced with a whole lot of sexual tension that was clearly evident in each every heated discussion that came their way. This couple was funny with their constant battle of wills but, the sexy biker seemed to douse the fire brewing and with one sexy smile and a whole lot of kissing the socks of a women he had always managed to get his way.

This was one hot and sexy read full of some seriously hot chemistry and a whole lot of hot and sexy scenes but, it was also full of a great cast of characters that we are already falling in love with and we already we know we are so going end up falling in love with this the series itself.

We really enjoyed the story as it was quite funny and we have a feeling some are going to have a bit of trouble warming up to Danielle because she fights what it is between both her and Booker constantly because she seems to be constantly wanting to push him away yet reeling him in all at the same time ( because she is clearly addicted to the man and his alpha-ness as much as she despises it she loves it) but, once she chooses to pick her battles wisely she learns pretty quickly multiple orgasms are better than none at all.. lol

I devoured this book in a matter of hours and I'd just like to apologize in advance to coworkers who have to put up with me on less than a few hours of sleep. This book was extra sweet with just a pinch, not a dash, of angst. I'm totally not used to in a mc book where everyone is sweet but I gotta say it was a nice change of pace. I absolutely adored the H/h together and especially her by herself. This gave me all the elements I look/hope for in a romance and I was very happy with the ending. My only objection was it was too short, but at less than 300 pages it made for a quick read and will make a quicker reread.

Enjoyable read! What I liked about Road to Desire is that there isn't much drama between the H & h. Once they were together they stayed together. I also like that Booker was very alpha and Dani was sweet and likeable. With regards to the motorcycle club it was very tame. It was definitely sweet and easy biker romance. The only thing I thought that let the book down was it plot is similar to so many other biker romances that it doesn't really stand out.

Overall a good read and look forward to reading more of this series.

Good plot, annoying heroine

Good story line just hard to like whiney heroine. I really liked Austin. I would like to read about Hawks story and Mack and Kim.
