Had I just said no to my mother in the first place, none of this would have happened, but that’s not behavior becoming of the heir to the throne of Stratho. Not something the descendant of Carrae, the Goddess of Earth and Fire, is allowed to do.
I didn’t expect when she sent me to Melandrea that things would play out this way. This wasn’t the plan. I was sent here to infiltrate. To glean information about their army and kingdom. To seduce one of the ruling family—the Barclay brothers—and create a connection that would make our land unstoppable.
But I failed. All because I tried to be a better person than my mother. I got myself kidnapped by the infuriating second born, Kairos Barclay, and possibly lost my entire future helping his family.
And now I’m stuck.
What I didn’t expect in this hellhole situation was finding two men willing to do anything to help me figure my life out. Now I just need to determine if I can let them in or if turning to my enemy is the safer bet.

Allie lives in Massachusetts with her husband, two children and two dogs. She is a lover of all books, especially romance, sci-fi/fantasy/paranormal and thriller books. A Tale of Love & Bones is her debut novel and the first in the Daughters of the Keeper series.
To say I was consumed while reading this book would be an understatement. I read it in one sitting and COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. Treacherous Flames is a book that features revelation after revelation. There is an introduction that will give you a short overview of the politics and setup of the world. You will probably be slightly in the dark at times, but the character development and relationships will get you through the times when you are unsure. I enjoyed the slow reveal of the connections between all of the characters and the politics that are woven into each relationship. There is so much potential in this world and I can’t wait to see what happens next! There are witches, fae, gods and so much history that you will learn as you read. Treacherous Flames provides a perfect balance of spice to plot and these characters are all so intriguing. Avani our FMC is sassy, stabby and brave. This book is why choose and our MMC’s do not disappoint. Bae is sweet but dominant, Kai is broken but you’ll still root for him. Ryker is mysterious and so hot. This is why I love why choose, you get all your favorite tropes AT THE SAME DAMN TIME lol. You want enemies to lovers? You got it. You want instalove? Got that too. You want boyfriends who boyfriend? Check. This book has it all and still leaves you wanting more! Allie Maddox send book 2 STAT. I need to know what happens next.
GIVE ME ALL THE HOT, PROTECTIVE, BROODY FATED MEN! Why👏f*cking👏choose!👏
All of the political drama was intriguing and the fated mates aspect made it hard for me to put the book down. I love that the FMC, Avani, is a curvy, spitfire (iykyk) of a woman. All three MMCs are different! Bae is a giant cinnamon roll, Ryker is mysterious, and Kai is our broody jerk and we love him for it. The ending was crazy and I'm already dying for book 2!
𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: 🔥 Trauma & Mental Health Rep 🔥 Queer Rep 🔥 MMFM 🔥 Fated Mates 🔥 Enemies to Lovers 🔥 Why Choose 🔥 "Good Boy
Whew...what an ending! I've been pretty enthralled by this book and I'm definitely hooked and want to know what's gonna happen.
There was a considerable amount of info the ingest in this book, particularly regarding all the different families and their history, which could become a bit confusing at times. All the talk about Fated and Bonded would also have benefitted from an in-depth explanation, or maybe it's just me 😅
I did enjoy this book a lot, I've found myself thinking about the characters when I was not reading and wanting to go back to it, which is a pretty good sign.
There was a good balance between the main characters. I liked Avani a lot, she was fierce and came out stronger from her less than ideal upbringing. Bae was dominant and protective, Ryker was this quiet but strong presence, and Kai was the one that you'd just hate to love and love to hate 😁 I like that all the different love interests had their distinct dynamic with each other, it makes for a lot of fun and interesting spicy scenes!
Overall I was pleasantly surprised as a first time Allie Maddox reader and am looking forward to the rest of the series!
I have received a free copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
This was such a fun read! While it does deal with some more serious issues of trauma and mental health, overall it was an enjoyable read that I didn't want to put down.
There was a good amount of world building and backstory but it never felt like too much of an info dump. (There is also a prequel series which I'm looking forward to reading but this book makes sense without having read it first.)
So excited to see what happens in the next book as I really loved all the characters!
Treacherous Flames is the first in a new trilogy by Allie Maddox, following the Daughters of The Keeper trilogy. I would highly recommend reading that series first, as this book picks up immediately where that series left off, but it's not completely necessary.
In this book we follow Avani, and her three fated Bae, Ryker, and Kai. I love the characters so much and Allie's world-building is wholly enveloping. Per usual, Allie ends the book on a major cliffhanger and I can't wait for book two!!
Exactly the book I needed right now! I absolutely loved the FMC as she was fierce, strong-willed, and just vibing for her. Each character was so well represented and beautifully written that it truly brought the story to life. The author’s writing really drew me in with the whole story. That cliffhanger left me shook! I’m already looking forward to the second book! I’ll definitely be reading the prequel to get even more background on this world. Thank you for the opportunity to be an ARC reader, it was an unforgettable read!
I absolutely DEVOURED this book! I could not put it down and am now impatiently waiting for book 2! Allie had me hooked from the beginning.
Avani is a curvy, badass FMC who was sent to Melandrea to seduce one of the royal heirs to gain more power for her mother. Despite the animosity between her and Kai, the second born, there’s also this pull towards him that she can’t explain. But he doesn’t trust her because of decisions she made but she then tries to help his family, even if it means turning on her own. Along this journey, she also meets Bae and Ryker, who are just 🔥 and the chemistry is off the charts! Both have their own secrets to share as well which I feel strengthens their bonds. Seeing how these two help build her confidence though is so heartwarming. Unfortunately, something brings them apart and they are going to be in one hell of a fight to get back to each other.
I felt the author did a great job representing mental health in this book. I loved seeing the growth thus far in all the characters and can’t wait to see where they all end up!
ARC Review TREACHEROUS FLAMES BY ALLIE MADDOX Release Date: 6.24.25
OVERALL RATING 5 ⭐️/5 4🌶️ /5 * SERIES: Fire and Fate, Book One - Dark, fated mates, why choose, Romantasy! I definitely suggested reading the prequel series, The Daughter’s of the Keeper first! You won’t be disappointed! * POV: First Person Multi - You get Avani, Kai, Ryker, Bae’s POV - all characters I am literally falling in love with! There is so much about Ryker and Bae we still don’t know and I can’t wait to see how their stories play out! Allie is so good at writing lovable, strong characters! * SPICE - Open Door, Explicit - amazing plot to spice balance as always! This one was 🤤🔥 I need more ⚔️ and group scenes in book two Allie!
THOUGHTS -
In true Allie Maddox fashion Treacherous Flames has me in a chokehold, I need book two STAT! There isn’t a single thing I disliked about this book, well… except Avani’s sister, Cara, she can fuck all the way off! I am so excited to be back in the world with characters I fell in love with from The Daughter’s of the Keeper series! Like stated above I do strongly suggested reading that first, you don’t have to, but believe me you WANT TO!
This book is full of twists and turns that had my jaw on the floor! I can’t wait to see how this plays out and I’m so excited to see her relationship with all three men grow! Allie has such an amazing way of writing a plot heavy fantasy in a way that is light and so easy to read - the world building is phenomenal, the character building is spot on (even if there is so much mystery there still) and the spice…Allie, Allie, Allie I NEED to live in Avani’s world! 🔥🤤 These men, all three of them are perfection!
Thank you to Allie for allowing me the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
If you enjoy why choose, political intrigue, fated mates, and an interesting magic system then Treacherous Flames is the book for you! Some of what will be written may be light spoilers but I will do my best not to give too much away.
Avani whether she wants it or not, has the world on her shoulders. Navigating the mess left by her mother and dealing with being kidnapped and mildly tortured was definitely not what she had on her bingo card when she ventured to Melandrea as a diplomat.
Bring in 3 men who may or may not be her fate for one reason or another and the major twist at the end and you have one intense story line that will keep you guessing.
You need to get your hands on this book and I honestly can’t wait until book two!

Never will I ever get tired of reading stories by Allie Maddox. She blends dark romance and captivating characters beautifully into a storyline that compels readers to devour her books. She is fearless in her writing, knowing exactly what she wants to say. She never fails to bring powerhouse FMCs to life and MMCs that adore them. In Treacherous Flames, book one in her newest series Fire and Fate, she proves once again the talent she has for storytelling and the love and passion she has to bring those stories to life.
Avani is a strong, stubborn FMC, who is determined to be a better person than her mother. She doesn’t like knowing she is being used by her mother, but when she is kidnapped, she is surprised to find allies behind enemy lines. As she works with these men, she feels a pull towards each of them. Each helps to bring something out of her; strength, bravery, and fight. I loved watching her become her own person and fall out of the shadow her mother looms over her.
And where do I even start with our MMCs, three to be exact. Each one brings something spectacular to the story and to Avani. Everything we love about MMCs are found in these three men. Bae, Kai, and Ryker add so much depth to the storyline and take the heat factor to scorching. Not only are they completely gone to our FMC, but we even get interactions between some of them that had me fanning myself.
With a wide and diverse cast of creatures and characters this book was easy to get lost in and not put down. It is evident that Allie put so much work into the plotting of this story, as she gives us so much history of the land and its inhabitants. There is romance, adventure, tension, mystery throughout this book. The ending…what can I say? I need book two now because I need to know what happens between our FMCs and the men who love her. As always, Allie, amazing job with your story and I can’t wait for whatever you have planned next.
As always, review any author notes before reading.

4.5 stars! I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for Treacherous Flames, and I devoured it in less than 3 days! As someone who has previously read Allie's Daughters of the Keeper trilogy, I was obsessed with reading names of characters we already love! With that being said, do you need to read the first trilogy? Not necessarily, however I think it would be helpful. Also, it's great, so why not?
Some things I loved were how refreshing this "Why Choose" is. All of the characters are in love with one another, not just with our FMC, Avani. Speaking of Avani, I love how Allie writes an FMC who isn't about to blow away in the wind. Avani has curves and I'm obsessed.
Speaking about obsessed- I love how we get multiple POV's. We aren't just stuck in Avani's head all of the time, we get Bai, Ryker and Kai's POV which keeps the book interesting.
Another thing that keeps the book interesting is the fact that there are definitely points in the book where Allie foreshadows things that either happen in this book or future books, which allows you to make predictions. This is always exciting when they come to pass or even when you are totally wrong!
I also think that Allie set up the series perfectly because that ending?! All I could think about is that viral song on TikTok that says "that.. was.. rude.." because now I need to wait however long for book 2 which is, indeed, rude. I need book 2 now after that ending!
Overall, I feel as though this book was well written, although I did find myself having to pause a few times to think about the whole dynamic with Avani's family and who is the antagonist and who is just a bi*ch. I also do wish that the fated and bonded moments were a little more official than they were because there were some moments where I felt a little robbed of a cute little bond snapping into place officially.
I was lucky enough to be on the ARC team for Treacherous Flames—thank you, Allie! I have to say, I really enjoyed this book from start to finish.
I haven’t read the Daughters of the Keeper trilogy yet, which is the prequel to this story, and at times I felt like there were bits of context I was missing. Still, that didn’t take away from my enjoyment at all. In fact, it only made me more excited to go back and read those books because Allie’s writing style is just so immersive and addictive. She pulls you in and doesn’t let go.
Let’s talk about the characters. Avani is a curvy firecracker—strong, resilient, and fiercely loyal to the people she loves. I absolutely loved her. And then come the men. First, there’s Kai, who starts off as a total hot-headed jerk. Honestly, I wanted to slap him for the entire first half of the book. But the tension and angst between him and Avani? So, so good. Then there’s Bae—oh my god. He’s a total cinnamon bun, wrapped in a hot, commanding package. The way he treats Avani is so sweet it made me melt. And finally, Ryker—mysterious, broody, and equally intriguing. Each character brought something unique to the dynamic, and I love how the romance slowly blooms between all of them. Well… almost all of them, but I guess we’ll see how that develops in the next book!
I also really enjoyed the multiple POVs. It’s one of my favorite things in a "why choose" romance, and it’s done beautifully here. The pacing was strong throughout, but especially in the second half, where things really started to ramp up. And the ending? Oh my freaking god—that ending took me out! I need the next book immediately. Like, right now. Please?
If you’re a fan of fantasy romance with heat, emotion, and unforgettable characters, you should really read this book!
Thank you so much to Allie for choosing me as an ARC reader for this novel!
Y'all this book came out swinging and did not stop coming right through to the end. The characters, the romance, the intrigue, the betrayals, the spice--omg, I could not get enough. I love the relationships that Avani built with both Bae and Ryker were beautiful, having partners that are willing to take care of her when no one else has. Ugh and when Avani and Kai finally figure out their shit? I was so frustrated for them that they did not get to enjoy that because of what happened with Cara. Also, I LOVE all the representation that this book gives the reader--bi representation, migraine representation, addict/recovery representation. As someone who identifies as bisexual and who suffers from painful migraines like Avani, I am HERE FOR IT.
The only thing that would have made this book better for me would have been a deeper delve into the lore of the different kingdoms, the covens, and the impending war. I also wanted to know more about the bonded, how the bond forms, why, the point of it, etc. However, in all fairness, I did not read the Daughters of the Keeper trilogy which this series is a spin-off of, so this information could be in there and I just haven't read it--yet! Regardless, this book had me hooked and even knowing that this ended in a cliffhanger going in, when I tell you that I was not at all prepared for this book to finish, I mean it. I finished the book and immediately went to Allie's socials to see if/when I could sign up for the ARC for the next book lol I am that invested in knowing what happens next. I cannot wait to see how the rest of this series unfolds. Thank you, Allie, for creating a great world for us to escape to for a while! 4.5 stars :)

Alright, so buckle up because this book was quite the ride! Confession time: as someone whose brain usually runs on an ADHD setting, and with Treacherous Flames being my very first fantasy-romance ever, it took me a little while to really settle in. All those unique names for people and places had my mind doing actual gymnastics, and I spent a fair bit of time playing context clues detective to figure out all the "fated," "bonded," and "wards" stuff! 😅
BUT, seriously, after a bit, everything just clicked. The story just took off, and from then on, I was absolutely flying through the pages, just desperate to see how it all ended!
And Avani?! Can we just talk about her for a second?! I am SO here for her, like, completely obsessed. It was such a breath of fresh air and genuinely awesome that she's described as curvier; I really appreciated that detail about her. And my heart was absolutely screaming for her and Kai to finally figure out their "fated" connection! The build-up, the anticipation... and then when they finally realized it? Pure magic. Chef's kiss! Oh, and let's not forget the spice! Because let me tell you, the spice was spicing, and I was literally thinking, why choose when she can have all of them? (And she kinda does 😉).
And that ending? OMGGGG. My jaw is still on the floor, and now I'm just counting down the seconds until the next book hits shelves! Allie Maddox, you've officially made me a new fan! If you're debating whether to pick up a new fantasy romance, seriously, just push through that initial world-building. For the story, the characters, and especially that ending, it is 1000% worth every second!
This is my first Allie Maddox read (thank you so much to the author and PA, Emily, for this eARC!) and I was not disappointed!! Oh my lorddd I loved these characters! If you’re looking a spicy fun time along with an intriguing plot with fantasy elements and a CRAZY ending, you’re gonna have to pick this up.
I do wish I had read her prequel series first, as this picks up after those events and occasionally I had to re-read certain plot points to figure out where we were - but that’s totally a me issue. The MAIN focus, though, really is the romance and I love the queer representation that’s heavily prominent throughout!! The romance is important to the plot, as Avanti - the heir to throne in the kingdom of Stratho and descendent of the Earth and Fire goddess - is sent to the kingdom of Melandrea by her mother to seduce one of their kingdoms rulers to make their kingdom stronger.
When I tell you I ate this up!! This was so addicting, and I loved every character - they all had distinct personalities and it was so much fun to be inside their heads. It was fast paced, full of hot & steamy scenes, and while that was a huge chunk of the book the moments of plot were equally as binge-able. The cliff hanger was WILDDD and I need to know what happens next!! Can’t wait for the second book!
Treacherous Flames by Allie Maddox Release date: June 24th ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️
*gifted copy, but honest review*
To preface, I didn’t read the prequel series for the Fire and Fate Trilogy. Honestly, I didn’t know there was one, BUT, after reading Treacherous Flames, I will absolutely be adding it to my TBR. This one was a bit out of my ordinary. I love fantasy (hello large, broody, fated males 👀), but haven’t been reading much of it lately. It was a nice break from the norm. It did take me a few tries to actually get into the story. It’s well written, but it starts out with quite a lot going on and took me a bit to catch on and immerse myself. However, once I did, I was hooked. I was up until 3 o’clock this morning reading because I just couldn’t put it down. The ending is quite abrupt. I know everyone loves a good cliff hanger, but it secretly just makes me mad. 😂 The FMC is interesting with a mixed history of royalty and trauma. There are several other key characters who seem to have quite a lot going on under the surface. It’s touched on, but not explored in depth in this story which, I feel like, just makes me want to keep reading. Some bits and pieces are predictable while others I absolutely did not expect. There is some spice (including a MFM 👀) and essentially everyone seems to be queer (winning🙌), but it’s definitely not as x e s heavy as some others. So if you’re looking for a great fantasy romance book with lots of world building and hints of ✨flavor✨ check it out!
One of the things that I really love about this book was the way that the author depicted one of the mmcs who is struggling with something very similar to bipolar. So he has these bouts of mania followed by depression. On the page it’s really well done the way that he is paranoid about things even when they involve the people that he loves and trusts. And honestly, it’s done in such a good way - not a shaming way at all, but in a way that really Makes you feel as torn as he does.
I really loved all of the mmcs and the way that their stories, their personalities, what’s important to them is also different and it really works when they link up even when their agendas are different. Even sometimes when they agree but they don’t wanna get anything done in the exact same way. I think it’s cool that all the characters have history with each other in some way; it makes them more complex and makes their relationships more complex too.
I love Avani as a curvy female main character. I think there’s something really compelling about the little ways that she both shows and tries to overcome her insecurities, and the ways that the people who care about her notice that. This is one of those books that’s good And then you hit the halfway mark and it starts to get great and then it will leave you on a brutal ending. I wouldn’t say it’s a cliffhanger in the sense of like “…” But it is kind of like a what the hell did I just read and where’s the rest of it. May or may not have reached out to the author to try to get some answers and did not get them (😂). So overall 10/10 would recommend! Definitely has some spice and I loved that about this book as well. It was pretty well done and it added to the complexity of the relationships and wasn’t just spice for spice sakes, which I know people don’t like. I particularly do like spice even if it’s just for spice sake so take that how you will. Happy to have been an ARC reader for this one!
A Rollercoaster of Sass, Steam, and Slow-Burn Anguish (In the Best Way Possible!)
I went into this like some others. Without reading The Daughters of the Keeper trilogy. It left me playing a bit of catch-up with the backstory However, it did nothing to take away from how much I enjoyed this book. Once I was locked in, I was LOCKED IN.
Avani is the kind of FMC I BREATHE for—witty, fiery, and unfiltered. She had me cracking up from page one, and her dynamic with Kai? Absolutely electric. The ANGST between them is unreal—I was practically SCREAMING at the book (while my man contemplated numerous times if I required a padded room 😅) for them to just see each other already!
And then there’s Bae. Bae!! He swept in like a storm and stole my heart. He’s protective, grounded, and knows how to show love without words but, with actions. He brings the heat and the dominance in the most scrumptious way.
Rykker is still a bit of a mystery, but I can feel there’s a deeper story coming. I’m dying to learn more about him and Bae as the series unfolds. There’s clearly so much more beneath the surface with those two.
All in all, this book was a spicy, emotional ride with characters I can’t stop thinking about. Bring on book two—I’m ready!
Treacherous Flames is a Why Choose Dark Romantasy, and it grips your attention fast! It follows Avani of Stratho, who is sent to seduce a member of the Barclay family so she can acquire information on their army and their inner workings. She discovers away from her family, that she wants to try and be a better person and risks everything only to find that she has not 1, but 3 fated! ❤️🔥
The spice in this book is spicy 🌶🌶🌶 and it starts rather quickly... like the beginning of the book 😂 with a pretty interesting scene. You can feel the tension and attraction with each character, and it is written in multiple POV. IMO, that makes everything so much better! I also love how she introduced each character and gave them their own "thing." You have your savior... Bae You have your enemy... Kai You have he fell first.. Ryker The story ends on a rather big "what the hell is going to happen now?!?" & im here for it! I can't wait for book 2!!!
The beginning did feel a little rushed, but the rest of the book evened out and followed a good rhythm ♡♡
I would definitely recommend this to anyone 18+ who likes darker romance scenes and why choose! Definitely read the trigger warnings!!!!
Treacherous Flames was an interesting ride—one with a lot of potential, but a few bumps along the way for me personally.
I didn’t realize this book is connected to a prequel series, and I definitely felt that as I was reading. It took me a while to figure out the characters, the world, and how everything fit together. I think I would’ve connected more with the plot if I had read the prequels first.
That said, there were things I really liked—especially the sexually fluid representation. This was the first time I’ve read a book with such open, fluid characters, and it was surprisingly refreshing. The spice is frequent and definitely on the hotter side, but it felt authentic to the characters and their relationships rather than just added for shock value.
One of my favorite elements was the multiple POVs. Each chapter gave us a different perspective, which helped fill in the emotional landscape of the story and kept things from getting stale. I’m still undecided about the idea of being fated to multiple people—it’s intriguing, but I’m not sure it fully worked for me emotionally just yet.
All in all, a solid start to what seems like a larger, interconnected fantasy world. I’d recommend reading the earlier series first if you want a smoother entry point, but if you’re looking for a spicy, fluid, multi-POV romantasy, this could be a fun addition to your TBR.
If you're on the hunt for a spicy, sexy read that will keep you turning pages late into the night, Treacherous Flames is a must-read. This why choose novel features a strong female main character (FMC) who isn’t afraid to take charge, making her a captivating lead in this fiery tale.
The book introduces us to three equally strong, sexy male main characters (MMCs), each bringing their own charm and intensity to the story. The chemistry between the characters is electric, with every encounter adding a sizzling layer of passion and intrigue. The dynamics are complex and thrilling, ensuring that the plot is as engaging as it is steamy.
What truly sets Treacherous Flames apart is the way it balances the tantalizing romance with a rich storyline. It’s not just about the heat—though there’s plenty of that—but also about the emotional depth and growth of the characters. The interplay of power, desire, and vulnerability keeps the tension high and the pages turning.
If you’re looking to escape into a world where love knows no bounds and every choice is deliciously complicated, this book is your ticket. It’s a journey of empowerment, exploration, and indulgence that you won’t want to end.
I was lucky enough to be a part of Allies street team and get an Arc sent to me. I Absolutely loved this book!
From the moment I started reading, I felt deeply connected to the FMC. It’s rare to find such authentic representation, and as someone who is bisexual and also deals with migraines, seeing those parts of myself reflected in her character was amazing.
Also, can we talk about the fated mates? Not just one, but three! I loved how different each of them was, and how their relationships with the FMC developed differently, especially the slow burn with Kai and seeing the real struggles he faced throughout. It didn’t feel rushed—just really natural and full of chemistry. The way the dynamics unfolded made it impossible to put the book down.
The character development across the board was strong, and the storyline kept me hooked. The pacing was spot-on, with just the right mix of world building, romance and action.
Overall, this book hit all the right notes for me—great rep, amazing romance, and a plot that kept me turning (digital) pages way past bedtime. 😭 book 2 now please? 🙏

ETA post review::::::: There is a prequel series to this. “Daughters of the keepers”. It was not mentioned until the end of the book in the authors notes. Would have been nice to know. I bet I would have been less confused.
Avani’s destiny is bigger than she’s ever asked for.
I went from 3 to 3.5 and then finally 4 stars because the end ties it up making me wanna read the next one for sure.
At first it’s hard to follow. It feels like you’re throw into the middle of a series. There are so many names and events that are mentioned it’s kind of confusing. And a family tree might have helped too because who is who and belongs to who is so hard to keep track of for a large portion of the book. (ETA:Apparently there will be a family tree)
I don’t understand why everyone accepts Ryker’s place without question but can’t fathom Kai being part of things. I don’t get it.
And there are So many unnecessary secrets (I get it. It’s for the plot but ugh) and maybe necessary ones but they’re not clearly explained. But thank Christ for Travo. Finally.
Ends on a cliff hanger that I am eager to continue
Thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to arc read this novel
Treacherous Flames is about Avani Drake, Heir to the Kingdom of Stratho, traversing through the politics of her kingdom and that of the others. I do admit that it took me a while to get into the story as I got really confused with the kingdoms, who's ruling what and who's Fated to whom. It might have been my fault for not knowing that there was a prequel series to this book (though I am not too sure if it would've helped me understand the story better if I read it). The story itself was moderately paced and I like how the FMC is not just some damsel-in-distress; she is powerful (literally and figuratively) and can definitely kick ass.
This book is an MMFM, Why Choose romance with sexy fated mates (I am seriously rooting for Bae). I love how her men is protective of her and but they also give the "I-know-you-can-but-let-me-help-you" or "let-me-do-it-for-you" vibes. The representations in this novel are great, specifically, the mental health and migraine reps.
Oh, and this book ends in a cliffhanger!!! So yes, reading the next book is a must and waiting for it sucks.
Thank you author for an advance copy of this book.
What a great story. I loved the FMC Avani - strong, independent and a little stabby! The MMC - Bae, Ryker and Kai and such a good mix of personalities and traits (and they all have some kind of history together!! O la la! Can't wait to see all of them together in future books!). I appreciated the brief overview of the worlds and history at the beginning. The character development is amazing. And boy that cliffy at the end - DID NOT EXPECT what happened even tho I'd been trying to figure it out! I can't wait to read the rest of this trilogy! I didn't realize there was a trilogy leading up to this book - while ultimately you don't need to read it there's def pieces that you're missing in the story - I've already got those on my TBR. The author did use some flashback moments within the main body of the story- the ones that go way back I don't mind. But in the beginning - they were only going back like 5-7 days I personally - I wish the story would have just started in that time frame. That's really the only "negative" - it just took me a bit to get into the book. But once I was in it - I couldn't put it down!! Thank you so much for the ARC Allie!
To say this book took me on an emotional roller coaster would be an understatement.
Avani our fmc was such a beautifully written character. Complex and full of snark and strength. She was also a curvy fmc without a flat stomach which I ✨loved✨. As someone who gets migraines frequently I loved the migraine rep as well.
The MMC’s oh boy. They were all so different and perfectly complemented each other and Avani. They each brought out a side to Avani and helped her to grow as a character.
I’m really excited to see what else there is to know about Ryker specifically- a very intriguing character.
This story also had a great focus on mental health and healing as well as moving forward while dealing with complex deep trauma.
The spice didn’t take up a huge part of the story or outshine the plot, however when the spice occurred it ✨occurred✨
This was my second why choose/reverse harem and I loved it.
I just wrapped up this book and it was a solid 4 for me. There was a lot going on and I was a bit confused even with the author explanation at the beginning. But after re-reading the beginning chapters I was on board and tracking w the story. My top 2 loves of this book was the spice, whoa Nelly it was spicy! And I also loved how the author didn’t shy away from talking/writing about mental health issues. One of the MMC’s was clearly struggling with bipolar disorder or depression and would have these manic episodes. I also loved how those surrounding him were supporting and non-judgmental. The magic system is also written in a way that is easy to follow and understand. Some fantasy novels are so confusing with how the magic is written. The FMC is also another favorite of mine! She’s one curvy, spicy, tough muthafuggin’ badass who can hold her own but she does have that soft and sensitive spot. I love when FMC’s are written like that where you know they can take care of themselves but are also willing to submit and be taken care of.
This book was a little different from what I usually read. I usually don’t read why choose books, but all of the other tropes and description of the books is what made me want to read this book. This book did not disappoint.
I loved all the main characters. Yes, even that one. He’s just misunderstood, okay? I loved the interactions between all the characters. Allie’s way of writing each character was also so unique in that when you switched chapters, you didn’t need the charcter indicator at the beginning of each chapter. You just knew what character it was by her writing style. That alone made me want to rate this book on the higher end.
Also, this book was not just about the spice and romance. It had a really intriguing plot which was super intriguing. The politics, strive for power, magic system, and world building were what made me come back for more.
Also, that ending alone is making me want to return for book two. If you need to escape to a faraway world with slow burn, where love knows no bounds, and where people go feral for their mates... this is the book for you.
I love a great romantasy, and Allie Maddox has delivered exactly that with Treacherous Flames. This amazing world is filled with magic, witches, fae, gods, fated mates, and more. All seamlessly intertwined to create this captivating story.
A queer normative world?! Yes! People love who they love and are who they are. This is such a wonderful thing to read for anyone, and especially a queer person. Allie has done a spectacular job with her characters, including their relationships and love interests. I am incredibly impressed with the queer representation in this story, especially bisexual characters.
There is actually so many different types of rep in this book. And it's built in to the lives of our characters and makes them even more authentic and relatable. We truly can see ourselves as magical and loveable, no matter what we may go through or deal with on a daily basis.
If you are ready for a beautifully diverse fated love story filled with magic and mystery, get this book!
This book is incredible. I love a strong FMC who doesn’t NEED anyone but has the support from everyone she needs. Avani is so easy to connect with and I was immediately invested in her story. Each introduction to a new MMC was so exciting, they each have very unique and individual personalities and characteristics so no one gets lost. It’s an incredibly well executed why choose and I loved every second of it…well there were a few parts I wanted to throw my kindle (but in the best way).
Read if you love: •Romantic Fantasy •Black Cat FMC •MMFM why choose •Fated Mates •Elemental Magic system •Enemies to Lovers •Insta love •Migraine Rep •Bi Rep •🌶️🌶️🌶️multiple open door scenes but still has a very well developed plot
The world from 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘿𝙖𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙆𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙧 returns but with the focus on a different group. This series can be read on its own but back story and more character introductions can be found in the previous trilogy.
Treacherous Flames is the first book of a new trilogy and does end on a cliffhanger 😭🥰
Thank you Allie Maddox for the opportunity to read this ARC. All opinions are honest and my own ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
