Get Wild in the Wildlands

From New York Times Bestsellers, Alexandra Ivy and Laura Wright, the heat of the bayou is back with Rage/Killian in an all-new dual 'tail'. Enter the Wildlands, where a new, volatile danger threatens the sizzling hot Pantera.

RAGE
Rage might be an aggressive Hunter by nature, but the gorgeous male has never had a problem charming the females. All except Lucie Gaudet. Of course, the lovely Geek is a born troublemaker, and it was no surprise to Rage when she was kicked out of the Wildlands.

But now the Pantera need a first-class hacker to stop the potential destruction of their people. And it’s up to Rage to convince Lucie to help. Can the two forget the past—and their sizzling attraction—to save the Pantera?

KILLIAN
Gorgeous, brutal, aggressive, and human, Killian O’Roarke wants only two things: to get rid of the Pantera DNA he’s been infected with, and get back to the field. But the decorated Army Ranger never bargained on meeting the woman—the female—of his dreams on his mission to the Wildlands.

Rosalie lost her mate to a human, and now the Hunter despises them all. In fact, she thinks they’re good for only one thing: barbeque. But this one she’s guarding is testing her beliefs. He is proud and kind, and also knows the pain of loss. But in a time of war between their species, isn’t any chance of love destined for destruction?

I'm not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother's knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library. Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I'm not admitting how many) I'm still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

Ehh it was okay but not my favorite? Maybe I was just missing something?

Rage/Killian was a novella that I didn't really care about. In it, you got two books: Rage and Killian. Rage was okay - kind of reminded me of the lion king when simba had a way out of the pride and left because he thought he killed his dad. Ya know? Yes, there's some romance but eh the whole push and pull kind of thing just rubs me the wrong way.

Then there's Killian, which was a lot better in my opinion. Him and Rosalie were meant for each other I guess? Mostly because this was a second chance at love and it hurt her to deal with that. The only thing I was confused about was the whole mate thing? The ending was just so confusing and I'm thinking that this whole mate doesn't mean it's their true love? Maybe? NO IDEA.

I didn't know this series existed before reading these two novellas and perhaps it would have been a bad idea to read these before the rest, but since these stories at least turned more around the couples than the actually plotline of the series, I don't feel like I was spoiled or missed much.

Lucie's help is needed and Rage was ordered to find her and get her to help them out and he is not happy to have been appointed that mission especially since Lucie isn't easy to find and when he does find her, she isn't that cooperative. But she is calling to his cat and they have to deal with that without losing focus of their mission. Rage and Lucie were quite entertaining characters. The banter between the two of them, the obvious chemistry, the misunderstandings, etc, everything just made this story entertaining.

Killian and Rosalie were another kind of story. Rosalie was hurt when she lost her mate because of humans and she is very much on a destructive path whenever they are concerned. When Killian comes to their lair for help, it takes a lot of her to not surrender to kill him. She is attracted to him, but she can't stand that he represents everything that she hates. Together, they are both learning about one another. It's not an easy road for either them as they each deal with their issues. I really enjoyed this one and wouldn't minded to have a few more chapters about it.

I am guessing that because the authors were writing to be included in the 1001 Dark Nights series, they toned down the overall story and focused on the couples. Normally, I would be ok with that. Here, however, it just did not work for me.

First, we get a minimum amount of story progression. I am losing interest fast. There are no other editions published and I can say I am not dying for one. I may or may not read future books in the series.

Rage - he has known the heroine (is it bad I cannot remember her name?) forever. She had a very hard life in the Wildlands and was eventually given a choice (stop working with the Geeks or leave). She left. She is a hacker and was not giving up her computers. She made a good life for herself. She always had a crush on Rage, who thought she was an annoying kid. There were zero romantic thoughts on his side. He was a player and she knew she would never have a chance. But he is a nice guy. Although I really don't need to hear about all of your former lovers you are still great friends with. They were thrown together on a task and instantly he wants to f*@k her. I just did not feel it. I mean I get they were attracted to each other, but how was she to let go of all the history instantly? It was also left sort of open because she does not really want to return to the Wildlands and that is his home.

Killian - I loved Killian. He was awesome and hot! Rosalie. Well, she JUST lost her mate when he was killed by the human keeping them hostage. She is grieving terribly. This is NOT a good foundation for a romance. I do not understand how she can be grieving so terribly and 2 days later in love and mating again. It just does not work for me. Maybe if it had been a long time ago, rather than weeks, I could have believed it. I liked Rosalie. Felt her pain. Also felt her confusion and guilt over her desire for Killian. I did NOT understand her immediate revelation that Mercier would be totally ok with her moving on. Maybe this mate thing does not mean what I thought it meant. Especially since at the end Rosalie though Killian had just picked someone else to mate with. That tells me it is not a deep, binding connection. It seems like more a label.

Another book by these two authors who seamlessly work as a team to bring to life the Panteras. Each book contains two stories that help to advance the storyline and describe what is happening amongst this unique race of shifters. They may live in the Wildlands in order to soak up it's magic but humanity is creeping ever closer and the Pantera are being hunted but this race of Pumas are not going down without a fight .
The first story is about the hunter Rage who is sent to get the geek Lucie to help take down an online auction that threatens the Pantera. Lucie may not live on the Wildlands anymore but she certainly made quite an impression! Rage remembers her as an awkward young girl but the truth was she was always hyper aware of him and now when they meet his cat realises that this female belongs to them. Nothing is that easy though and it will take an awful lot of persuasion for Lucie to return to the Wildlands.
The second story is Killian. Now this had a different feel to it as Killian is a human who has unwittingly been experimented on and now he is far more than just a soldier. He seeks answers and help from the Pantera but his arrival is met with hostility as unfortunately for Killian one of the first people he runs into is Rosalie. Rosalie has good reason to hate humans and the military in particular but she is a slave to her rage and anger. Wanting nothing less than to rip him apart Rosalie finds herself guarding the irritating human male but will he be killed or cured?
I love this series and it's been an incredible journey. It never fails to impress me with it's mixture of passion and action. If you enjoy shifter tales then these books are a must read and both the authors do a cracking job of entertaining the reader. I think particularly with the second story Killian that the bar has been raised and it will be interesting to see just where the authors now take the Pantera but one things for sure it will be fabulous to find out!

A scorching hot PRIMAL good time! It was so great to travel back to the suspenseful world of the Pantera. The story of both RAGE and KILLIAN was savagely erotic, blissfully intoxicating, and incredibly intense and I LOVED every minute of it! Fans of the HOT Bayou Heat series will be ecstatic! New readers, get ready to become obsessed! I hope you have room on your Kindle after this, because once you go Pantera, there is NO turning back!

RAGE

Rage, a Hunter of the Pantera, is ordered to find one of their own who was pushed out long ago. Lucie, a Geek of the Pantera holds quite a grudge for being kicked out. Rage is hesitant of this mission because he remembers the Lucie of his childhood. Out of loyalty and because there is a looming threat against the Pantera he finds her, and she is no longer the little girl he remembers. Being briefed beforehand on Lucie's childhood problems, he feels sympathy towards the stunning Geek. But she is no wilting flower. She is strong, she is pissed, and she is heavily attracted to the Hunter. Drama and suspense ensues and in the end, Rage ends up showing Lucie what love truly is.

KILLIAN

Killian, is an ex-military man, who was injected with Pantera DNA during an experiment, he thought was supposed to help him with his PTSD. Rosalie, a Hunter with the Pantera is out for blood, human blood and she will stop at NOTHING to get her revenge. Both are suffering so much loss and end up finding solace in each other's arms.

Both Rage and Killian's stories touched my heart. The perfect blend of passion and suspense, mixed with so much emotion, made this novella a PNR Home Run!

Love this series and as always it doesn't disappoint. Rage is a Hunter who is tasked with finding Lucie a Geek. Lucie left the Wildlands long ago when she was kicked out. She's stayed close to the Wildlands going to shift and soak up the magic. Lucie had a troubled childhood but she was always drawn to Rage. Rage finds Lucie and asks her for the favor Xavier needs. She asks what it is and decides to help. As soon as Rage is near her he and his cat knows she is theirs. Lucie has always wanted to be loved and wanted, she doesn't believe he really wants her. But he shows her he means it, and won't let her go.
Killian is an ex military man who's come to the Wildlands to seek their help. He was experimented on during what he thought was treatment for his PTSD. He now dreams of a huge black puma. He meets Rosalie and they clash but also are attracted to each other. Rosalie still hasn't gotten past her mate's death, she hates all humans. So she takes it upon herself to guard him, but the attraction is there. Then the unthinkable happens Killian sees Rosalie in her cat form and he shifts for the first time. His cat sees Rosalie as his and thus he shifted. Now since Rosalie was warned not to shift around him, she is in deep trouble. She is for sure going to be banished from the Wildlands. Killian isn't having it though she is his and if he is offered a home there then he isn't staying without his mate. I love this series and hope it doesn't end anytime soon.

This was a quick, but disappointing read.
Both of those short stories were meh.
Rage was the better of the two, but still not good. This was definitely a case of insta-lust and I didn't feel it.

Killian was even more ridiculous. Rosalie just lost her mate and instantely moves on with Killian. Also a case of insta-lust.

Also both of those shorts did not have much story, but let's be honest where would you fit in a story between all the sex scenes when you only have 50 pages for each story.

ARC Review
Authors Ivy and Wright could give lessons on how to write a satisfying novella. These are short stories that do not read like short stories, but for the fact that they are, well, short. The narratives are involved and captivating with an emotionally satisfying pay off. They contribute well to the on-going story of the Pantera.

In Rage, this Hunter is assigned to find and bring back an outcast from the pack. Rage the resident lover boy. He adores women and they love him back. Lucie grew up on the fringes of Pantera society, an outlier who was outcast for breaking the rules for outlaw hacking, a “Computer geek who has a reputation for being a psycho bitch.” Now the Pantera need her back for her hacking expertise.

This is my favorite kind of couple. A male who knows how to woo a woman and who is unexpectedly brought down by that special woman. For Lucie, it is a dream-come-true. This is the male she has had a crush on since she was a girl. She has been misunderstood for most of her life and she didn’t expect this to happen. Starting as an opposites attract and morphing into a ying and yang story, I like the complimentary nature of our couple. They have a common purpose to bring down the humans who are experimenting on the Pantera and humans. It is an exciting story with action, suspense, and a lot of sexual chemistry.

Killian
Killian is a human who has unknowingly been used as a guinea pig. A special ops warrior seeking help for his PTSD, he is funneled into a program in which he is injected with Pantera DNA. He is the manifestation of the Pantera’s greatest fear, the super soldier.

Rosalie lost her mate during an attempt to escape from the clutches of Locke’s lab. She is angry, bitter, and hurting. The last thing she expected is to feel an attraction for this human.

He helps her overcome her grief and move on. She helps him transition to his new life. It’s a simple story, but one really well told.

IN A NUTSHELL:
Rage/Killian are two infinitely readable short narratives that advance the bigger story arc. There is an on-going threat to the Pantera. Neither humans or Pantera are safe. What is next?

We are taken once again to the mysterious and magical world of the Pantera, with two additional stories to the Bayou Heat series.

Rage by Alexandra Ivy

Rage is a hunter who is tasked with finding Lucie, a geek who was “kicked out” of the pack. Rage never forgot the girl who hid in the shadows, so when he tracks her down, the woman he finds is nothing like the wounded girl he remembers.

Lucie has moved on from her past. No one really knew who she was and when she broke the rules, she was forced to choose between behaving and leaving the pack. She chose the latter. No one will tell her what to do again. She can make her own decisions; live her life as she chooses. When Rage informs her about the online auction that’s about to release sensitive information about the Pantera, Lucie agrees to help but she has her own rules.

Rage and Lucie’s journey was amazing. They both had a lot to learn about each other and spending time together helped them do that.

Killian by Laura Wright

Best Pantera story yet!

Killian is a soldier who was tricked and was experimented on. He was injected with Pantera DNA and he has begun changing. In need of answers and a solution, he turns to the Pantera but as soon as he arrives he is attacked by Rosalie.

Rosalie hates the very mention of the world human and rightly so. The humans took from her the most important thing: her mate. No she will do anything to get her revenge, even if that means killing the arrogant and irritating human. When the truth is revealed though, Rosalie has no choice but to protect him.

Rage and Killian’s stories were two amazing additions to the series. Both stories had action, drama, suspense and romance. The Pantera are no closer to finding Christopher but at least more and more of their members find true happiness.

I can’t wait to read more of the Pantera.

Sexy, fun to read, and hard to put down ! Another exciting addition to the series.

The first story is Rage and Lucie who knew each other but because of some mixed signals Lucie had left The Wildlands and struck out on her own. There was family drama at play in Lucie's backstory that was really sad and pulled me more into the story. She had always been fascinated by Rage and his wicked charm and male beauty, but Lucie was socially awkward with a knack for getting into trouble. Now the Pantera need her help and they are drawn together finding an immediate chemistry. It fast becomes clear that they are mates. Rage and Lucie's story was fantastic. It was filled with passion, emotions, and it had some action.

The second story is Killian and Rosalie who had a very tumultuous relationship. They started out as enemies. Rosalie was very bitter toward all humans after the death of her mate. Her anger was growing out of control until she captured Killian as he came looking for help from the Pantera. It seems that the mysterious military group had finally been sucessful in creating a super soldier from Pantera DNA. Only Killian wasn't a willing participant in the program and now he wants the Pantera's help to rid himself of what is happening to him. Oh, but then the sparks fly when he meets Rosalie, and they help each other put some ghosts to rest. The series takes an incredible turn with this story. Nope ! I did not see that coming .....

Each novella was well written and fast paced. The characters were interesting with creative relationships. We had a lot o big reveals in these two novellas, and now I cannot wait for the next one.

Completely enjoy this series and Rage/Killian's stories were no different. Rage has never understood why Lucie didn't want to be a part of everything. He didn't understand why she stayed on the fringe, in the shadows. Now, their people need her help and he is the one sent to track her down. Lucie is the best at what she does and she's always had a thing for Rage. Now together, they discover a mutual attraction!
Killian is a human. Rosalie hates humans. Humans killed her mate and now they must pay with blood. She wants to kill Killian but at the same time is horribly attracted to her. As an experiment, all Killian wants to do is get whatever they put in him out. His attraction to Rosalie is not good timing for either of them...is it?
Loved all the characters in these books. Rage is an awesome Hunter and compassionate. Lucie is hurt and wants to be needed and wanted. I really loved how Rage treated her. She had done some things to him that he didn't understand but he still treated her well, especially when he found out about her past.
Rosalie is a Hunter that is wanting blood and is ready for war. I felt terrible for her, but I also felt bad for Killian for being a science experiment. Together they may heal or kill each other. It was fun reading which would happen.
4/5 for me. I really do enjoy all the Ivy & Wright books!!

Rage: Rage and Lucie are Pantera which means that they are puma shifters who live in the bayou. This is a very short story. I read it in about 30 minutes so it was pretty quick but it was so thought out and just worked so well that it felt like a 500 page hardback. Both characters had backstories and great personalities. Rage is a Hunter which I take to mean that he is literally a hunter and is like an enforcer and Lucie is a Geek which means she does the tech stuff for the Pantera people. This story centers around the sale of sensitive information about how to use Pantera blood to make super soldiers.

Killian: Killian is a human soldier who has been injected with Pantera blood and comes looking for help from the Panters. Rosalie is a Hunter who was held in one of the testing labs. She and Killian meet when she kicks his butt when he tries to come onto Pantera land. This was a sweet story of two people who have been through hell and back finding love.

I would definitely read more of these stories and intend to go on a search soon. All that hot sex doesn't hurt any either. Rawr!! I went into reading this book with the preconceived notion that I have read all the shifter books imaginable and was going to be bored with this one but I was very wrong. I love the style of writing and how the characters are REAL.

I love these Bayou Heat novels. They just keep getting better and better. Both of these stories were awesome and pulled me right in.

In Rage's story he has to look for the Geek who was a little hacker crazy and told move out of the Bayou. Now his mission is get her to help. Lucie always had a thing for Rage and didn't go about it the right way. Now he is stuck like glue while she does what she does best hacking. Being pushed together their animal instincts kick in and will the realize how they feel for one another before it's too late?

In Killian's story you have Killian who is human, but unknown to his knowledge was being experimented in a lab now he is anything but normal. Rosalie is dealing with a whole lot of grief after losing her mate to the humans. She is seeking revenge and justice for her mate. a lot of the time her puma takes over, but there is something about Killian that calms here puma. Can Rosalie let go and move on or will she forever be stuck in the past? Soon Killian realizes the extent of what they did to him in the lab. Will he accept what he is now or will he lose the will to live and let Rosalie finish what she started.

A fantastic addition to the series!

Rage, I enjoyed mostly for the back story. I loved the shared history and the misconceptions. I do however wish that we found out more about the past that Lucie doesn't like to talk about.

Killian. Hmm, what can I say about this one. Things are changing, we've known that for a while now and here in Killian & Rosalie's tale we have the proof.

As always the novella's are well written, they pull you into the world and it's as if you never left. Both Laura & Alexandra paint a vivid picture and you could almost believe there are Pantera in the wild.

I can't wait for the next two!

This is another winner in the Bayou Heat series for Laura Wright and Alexandra Ivy, with the stories of Rage and Killian. Rage’s and Lucie’s story shows that opposites do attract. Killian’s and Rosalie’s story shows that with lost there can be a future. If you are a lover of the Pantera storyline, you will enjoy this installment of the series, especially since a few of the prior characters are in the stories. Get the book you won’t regret it.

Rage/Killian is an excellent addition to the 1001 Dark Nights set. While I have not read all of the previous books in the Bayou Heat series, these novellas read easy for me. Both of these stories were exceptional. If you were already a fan of the series, these will just build on your love, if you, like me are new, they will make you buy the rest to make up for what you've been missing out on.

Rage and Lucie's story pulled me in and kept me reading late into the night on the edge of my seat. This story was a masterful blend of suspense, romance, and heat. The characters are written so well and you can feel the drama surrounding them.

Killian and Rosalie's story was heartbreaking for me at times, but also sweet and moving. Not only is every emotion brought out clearly through the words, but it was almost a physical pull to hurt for these characters and also to feel happiness for them for finding each other and being able to work through some of it.

Rage and Killian have made me a fan of the series and I look forward to reading more of these characters.

In the first story we go directly from the heroine not being sure about the hero's intentions to the hero saying "my female" to his friends without anything between other than the general plot. I suppose some pages were forgotten as there's usually a scene where each accepts the other as their mate. Oh and the hero was a man slut for a long time before realizing the heroine is his mate.

In the second story the heroine has lost her mate not long ago, she's still managing her grief with only anger, and then boom, two days after meetings the hero she's ready for love again? As the hero is a human transformed into a Pantera through injections, I was waiting for a plot twist saying it had been done with the heroine's former mate' blood (that would have explained the immediate reaction) but no chance.

At this point I'm just going through with this series to know the ending of the global plot.

Two extremely brief stories both focused on characters recovering from trauma. Both installments easily kept my interest even though the plots were similar and very simple.

Like others in this series, these are a great option for a quick bit of escapism with characters that are easy to like.

Very much in the 'light-weight' but fun pile.

I loved these two novellas. I loved the characters, setting, story and pacing. It was just enough to give a view into the Pantera world while not being too overwhelming with information. It is definitely a series I am going to look into now.

When at least one of the individuals involved in a relationship can turn into a puma, the "enemies to lovers" troupe takes on a whole new dimension:
Green eyes flickered with heat, but if it was sexual interest or the possibility of getting him alone and removing his heart with her puma's teeth, he couldn't tell.

"It's settled, then," she said, her lips moving into a smile.

"Nothing is settled until I say it is," Raphael returned tightly. "Rosalie, if this man ends up dead, you will not be able to remain in the Wildlands. Do you understand me?"

She gasped and turned to look at the leader of her kind.

"Do you want to take that risk?" he asked.

Her jaw tightened, she nodded.

"I need your word, Hunter," he pushed.

"He will not die, Raphael. I give you my word." But he might feel some pain, her eyes said.--"Killian"
The Rage/Killian novellas by Alexandra Ivy and Laura Wright work great as an introduction to the Bayou Heat series. Even though you're thrust in the middle of an ongoing issue for the Pantera--they recently found out that a secret group of humans learned of their existence and was experimenting with their blood and DNA, one desired outcome of which was creating a breed of super soldiers--you're not at all lost jumping into the middle of it all with the two stories here. Instead you get a brief synopsis--but not too much to bog down the narrative--and few brief explanations as needed while you go, and two complete series novellas. Based on these two, I'll definitely be revisiting the Wildlands again--soon.

The hero and heroine of "Rage" --Rage and Lucie--have a history, and it's not a good one. Lucie's had a rough life, always on the outside of the puma-shifter society looking in, She's had a major crush on golden-boy (and Hunter, a.k.a. a Pantera protector) Rage for nearly the entire time, but she neither knew how to act appropriately on it (because sharing his private journal entries about his dating exploits with all of the Wildlands wasn't an effective tool; go figure!) nor did she have the luxury of really trying to get to know anyone, let alone the unreachable Rage with everything that her grandfather put her through.

Now it's years later, and Lucie, a Geek (Pantera-speek for tech whiz), has left the Wildlands. Her skills are desperately needed, though, in the fight against the humans who are out to exploit the Panteras for their own personal gain, so Rage is sent--against his will--to go find her...

And the rest, for the most part, is simply meant to be. Rage learns that things with Lucie weren't exactly as they seemed to the Pantera group on the outside, and Lucie learns that she has worth--to herself, but also to the group and to Rage. They both find that resisting each other in the future would be useless.

Oh, and they kick some bad guy butt in the meantime. Win-win.

"Killian" and Rosalie struggle as much with their own inner demons as with each other. Rosalie and her mate, Mercier, were both taken to the human labs, where Mercier died trying to protect her. To say the Hunter's got a problem with all humans now is a bit if an understatement. Killian was a victim on the other side of the experiment--a special forces soldier who thought he was getting treatment for PTSD but ended up in a whole other type of treatment all together. Now he's got shifter blood and DNA inside him, and he's not happy.

For these two, the only butts that get kicked are their own--but there's still a satisfying story about trust, acceptance, and forgiveness here.

And smoking shifter chemistry. Hooah. ;)

REVIEW: RAGE is another quick read where a Pantera male finds his mate. For all intents and purposes Lucie is considered a risk; a feral female whose earlier life was riddled with abuse, neglect and a grandfather under the influence of a disease that attacked his mind. But somehow Lucie survived and has made a name for herself in the world of IT hacking, and it is her ability to hack into the cyber world that the Pantera are in desperate need. Rage has been commissioned to bring Lucie back to the Pantera Wildlands, but first they must deal with a cyber auction where the Pantera will be targeted once again. What ensues is a quick round of $ex where Rage’s inner feline discovers that Lucie is their mate before our couple head out to end the auction before it begins.

REVIEW: KILLIAN focuses on a hybrid shifter named Killian O’Roarke-a former soldier who entered Bensen Enterprises in the hopes of treating his PTSD but found himself a prisoner who was subjected to experiments and injections of an unwelcome kind. Hoping for answers, Killian heads to the Pantera Wildlands where humans are not allowed-but Killian is no longer human-and his plea to rid himself of the beast within is met with the possibility of a future mate in the feisty but angry Rosalie, and a position within the Pantera family. The push and pull between Killian and Rosalie uncovers to what extent the experiments were successful.
••••••••••

RAGE / KILLIAN is the latest entry into the 1001 Dark Nights novella series. The BAYOU HEAT series continues to focus on Bensen Enterprises, and the experiments performed to create a super soldier in the face of human and Pantera objections and pain. As the paranormal/shifter series progresses, the Pantera continue to search for the person(s) responsible for the abhorrent experiments weaving a path of destruction, broken minds and emotional abuse for both Pantera and human, alike. Ivy and Wright’s storylines blend together to create a cohesive series about a species that were all but destroyed by hatred and disease. The characters are colorful, energetic and engaging; the romances are quick to build as per the novella outline and the Pantera’s need to mate; the happily ever after has yet to come to fruition. The BAYOU HEAT series is intense, dramatic and always a welcome addition to any paranormal library.

You know how frisky your cats get when they're wantin' a lil feline lovin? That. Except hot...since they're part human and all.

Deep in the Louisiana swamps, there is a little known race of puma shifters named the Pantera. Recently forced to reveal themselves to the world, they now struggle with humans who want to harvest their DNA for nefarious purposes. These are their stories.

RAGE by Alexandra Ivy

As a Hunter, Rage has always stepped up to protect his species, but asking him to work with Geek Lucie Gaudet is above and beyond the call of duty! A born troublemaker, Lucie elicits pity, apprehension...and lust all at once, something his cat doesn't know what to do with. But she knows her techie stuff, and the Pantera bosses are in dire need of her help. Rage did not expect to fall head over ass for the insolent female, but damn if he can help himself. Now he just has to convince her...

KILLIAN by Laura Wright

Rosalie wants blood. Specifically, human blood. After losing her mate to humans, she's become almost feral, her puma overtaking her human side, thisclose to the point of no return. When she comes across human Killian O'Roarke on Wildland property, she immediately attacks. Killian doesn't quite understand his raw and powerful attraction to the female Hunter, all he knows is that she is HIS. Probably has something to do with the puma DNA he was injected with while in the Army. Both battling demons as dark as coal, will Rosalie and Killian be able to find the common ground their cats are begging for?

RAGE/KILLIAN are stories 17 and 18 in the Bayou Heat Series, and also a stand-alone addition to the 1001 Dark Nights Series featuring magical and mystical erotic stories by a variety of popular authors inspired by the classic The Arabian Nights tale. This is actually 2 stories by different authors but in the same overall setting, the Wildlands of the Louisiana bayou. The 1001 Dark Nights books are always so good, combining paranormal elements, heat, humor and love into such a small space. Although I really don't care for shifter romance, (am always a bit weirded out thinking of the logistics), I enjoyed these short stores nonetheless. In RAGE, I liked the seriously potent chemistry between Rage and Lucie. They only cursorily fought their attraction, giving into their instincts almost instantly upon reuniting as adults. I love that she was recognized for her awesome techie talents too, she was a pretty badass pussy!

KILLIAN was another good offering, if a little higher cat/human ratio than I'd prefer. Rosalie was so angry, and while she had huge reason, it came a little too close to the line of obnoxiousness. Killian on the other hand was pretty rad. He had every right to be pissed too, but instead kept a positive attitude and worked tirelessly to get Rosalie out of her funk. They did have some excellent chemistry too, and the sex scene was delicious!

Bottom Line: Feline fun for everyone and a purrrfect addition to the series. - See more at: http://www.theromancereviews.com/view...

Quick & Dirty: Dark and sexy paranormal romance stories that are set in a tough and terrible world. These stories are short and to the point.

Excerpt: Yes (Rage)

The Review:

Rage/Killian are the 17th and 18th books in the paranormal romance Bayou Heat series. Because of the novella length of these stories, they get straight to the story and the intense desires that the characters have for each other. The story revolves around a group of Puma shifters, they call themselves, Pantera. This is the first story that I have read in this series and while I didn’t get lost with what was going on, I would love to go back and find out how they got to where they are now in the story.

These stories feature strong female characters and put them up against some equally strong willed men. The events of these stories take place in a very short amount of time so the romance heats up really quick. Rage/Killian and the cast of characters intrigued me enough that I would really like to go and check out the rest of this series.

Rage:

Pantera blood is up for auction and it is up to Rage to find the Geek hacker Lucie in order to stop it. The blood is being used to create super-soldiers and even being used for genetic testing. It cannot be allowed to get into the wrong hands. Lucie no longer lives in the Bayou because her skills were seen as abhorrent to the Pantera leaders. Thankfully Rage is given a big clue where to find her so it doesn’t take him too long. He just has to talk her into helping the Pantera who turned her away.

Lucie and Rage were my favorite couple in this compilation. I really liked them both. Rage is a tough Hunter, he wants to protect and help his group. He also doesn’t understand how he developed such a reputation as a ladies man. Rage remembers Lucie as kind of a bully who kept tormenting him as they grew up.

Lucie has loved Rage since she was a little girl. Life was extremely harsh for her and she often looked like she was rabid. Now that she has moved away, she has cleaned up and developed a huge reputation as a hacker. Lucie is tough as nails and she certainly doesn’t rely on anyone but herself. Tormenting Rage was Lucie’s way of coping with her crush.

Killian:

Killian O’Rourke shows up in the bayou seeking help from the leader of the Pantera, Raphael. Killian is a human that suspects he has had some genetic testing done on him against his will and he wants whatever was done to him removed. He just wants to be normal again.

Rosalie is the Hunter that finds Killian and all she wants is his blood because he is a filthy human. A human like the one who took her mate from her. As a Hunter, Rosalie is super strong and super aggressive. All she can think about is blood and revenge.

What I liked about this story is the fact that they both had to go through some really uncomfortable stuff and through that they both became better people because of it.

FTC Advisory: InkslingerPR/Evil Eye Concepts, Inc provided me with a copy of Rage/Killian. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

"Bayou Heat: Rage - Killian" by Alexandra Ivy and Laura Wright. Book 17 & 18 in the Bayou Heat novella series.

OVERALL REVIEW

I really liked both of these novellas. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars was because the overall series story line doesn't really progress a lot because it's part of the 1001 Dark Nights collection and the story has to be more of a stand alone to fit in with the collection. If you have not read the Bayou Heat series, you can read these two novellas and understand what's going on without confusion.

3.5 stars - RAGE by Alexandra Ivy

This story continues the new plot of the series to find out who the mysterious Christopher works for but a problem arises when the Pantera learn of an online auction selling Pantera DNA serum to the highest bidder.

To stop this, Parish, leader of the Hunters, sends Rage to find Lucie, a Geek Pantera that left the Wildlands. She's the only one who can hack into any system ever made. Rage wants nothing to do with Lucie because she humiliated him years ago and she's just psychotic! But if finding Lucie is his job, then that's what he'll do. He just never expected his cat to want her so badly.

Lucie wants nothing to do with the Pantera; that why she left them. Now they want her back and need her help. So of course they send Rage, the one Pantera she's had a crush on for forever. But he's a player. Always with a different woman. Can she really believe him when he says she's the one for him? Or is he just using her because the Pantera need her hacking skills?

I really liked this first story about Rage and Lucie. Short, sweet and to the point. The overall series plot doesn't really get any farther in this story but the romance between Rage and Lucie is really sweet.

4.5 starsKILLIAN by Laura Wright

The story continues with a romance between Killian and Rosalie. In this novella we see the result of the experimentation on humans using Pantera DNA.

Killian has just escaped an experimentation facility and he needs help. The only place he can go is to the Pantera Wildlands. There's something inside him now and he's not even sure what it is. It's primal. When he meets Rosalie, that primal feeling inside him lights up. He's never been drawn to any woman like he's drawn to Rosalie. If only she didn't hate him.

Rosalie is not happy that Raphael, leader of the Pantera, is letting a human, Killian, stay in the Wildlands. Humans were responsible for the death of her mate. Especially soldiers like Killian. She won't let him out of her site, even if her cat is the calmest it's ever been around anyone when she's around him. He doesn't belong in the Wildlands and he has to go.

Loved this novella! You really feel for Rosalie and her struggles to get past loosing a loved one. Killian's past is also sad and it just makes sense that Killian and Rosalie can help each other get through their personal issues.

Have you ever started to read a series, really liked it and then just stopped reading after a point, not because you had any issues or dislike for it ~ life and other books just happened ~ and then after getting the opportunity to pick it up again, many installments later, want to kick yourself for not keeping up with it like you should? Well, that’s me in a nutshell right about now. I read the first four novellas (two books) and really liked the world the authors had created, but life got in the way and now I’m definitely kicking myself for not keeping up because the very things that I enjoyed about the first four novellas holds true with the 17th and 18th installment:
The writing by both authors is crisp, clean. engaging and I love how seamlessly the stories flow from one to the other.
Though they are both novellas you don’t feel cheated when it comes to H/h’s growing relationship and a nice piece of the overall series storyline that gets resolved in the novella.
And even more important, though one should really read the series from the beginning, if you aren’t able to this one isn’t a bad place to get a nice little taste of what the series is about. Both authors do a great job of getting the read up to speed without bogging down the story with back story.

Now on to Rage and Killian. I loved Rage and Lucie’s story. Rage, for all his sexy alphaness was really sweet and I loved that he had no issue showing Lucie that side of him. Lucie, I simply loved her spunky side. She has her scars and issues with authority, but she’s still loyal to the Pantera. Together they were actually really cute, which I know should be anathema when it comes to a Hunter and a Geek, but they were. Killian and Rosalie’s story had a more of a somber tone to it and a bit more angsty, but it was still just as good. Both Killian and Rosalie are dealing with their lives going sideways so there’s much more tension going on between them, but I enjoyed how they finally worked through their issues and acknowledged how they felt about each other.

The writing for both novellas was well done and though I enjoyed the storyline in Rage’s novella, especially Lucie’s role in it, it was the storyline in Killian’s that garnered the biggest reaction out of me because of how it will affect the overall series storyline. and has me making sure that I grab the next installment when it comes out.

The Bottom Line: If you like paranormal/urban fantasy and are looking for something a little different this is the series to check out!

Rage - Alexandra Ivy

This is the story of Rage, a hunter, and Lucie a former geek. Lucie left the wildlands years before after being banned from using computers after hacking into government files. She's made a life for herself testing out/hacking into company security systems and is perfectly happy on her own. Along comes Rage, sent by Parish, to in list Lucie's help in finding out who has and recover the data stolen from the labs prior to their destruction.

Rage and Lucie have history, she was brought up by an abusive grandparent, always admiring Rage from afar. He was the typical pantera hottie and never really understood why she ran every time he tried to get close to her. The mutual attraction is instant, Rage feeling the mating pull immediately, Lucie needing a little more persuasion. Rage turning on the charm is all Lucie needs to give in and realise that he's serious in his pursuit. As always these stories move at a fast pace due to their shortness, it's well written and keeps you interested throughout.

Killian - Laura Wright

This is the story of Killian, a soldier experimented on without his consent, and Rosilie, a hunter previously kidnapped with her now deceased mate. Killian is looking for answers after being given Pantera blood while getting treatment for his PTSD. Rosalie blames all humans for the death of her mate and comes across Killian as he's trying to get into the wildlands. Immediately filled with hate all she wants is to kill him. He's vital to the pantera though as could give them answers to how involved the government is in the creation of super soldiers.

Raphael steps in as his guard while he allows the pantera to run tests which he hopes will give them the answers to turning him back fully human. Unfortunately for him he encounters Rosalie in her puma form which allows his own puma to emerge and want to claim her as his mate. Rosalie realises that her hate for all humans is misplaced and after spending some time with Killian realises that they can actually help heal each other.

I loved these two characters, Killian is my new favourite, he's passionate, strong and understanding to Rosalie's issues so u can't help but fall in love with him.
