Q: "You're saying, Ms. Lehane, that during a date, a wealthy, influential man attempted to rape you?"
A: "He was stronger . . . we struggled--"
Q: "But you're alive, and he's dead. Get yourself a good lawyer, ma'am.
It was Constance Lehane's word against the sterling reputation of the man who'd died in her living room--a man whose powerful family wanted her charged with murder. Suddenly the small-town girl needed the best criminal defense attorney New York City had to offer--Flynn Corbett. His dark good looks and comforting shoulder almost made her forget she might go to jail . . . almost made her hope he truly was her knight in shining armor ....
Maura Seger was born in 1951. She and her husband, Michael, met while they were both working for the same company. They married after a whirlwind courtship that might have been taken directly from romance novel. She credits her husband's patient support and good humor for helping her fulfill the lifelong dream of being a writer.
She is happily at work on a new novel, because she finds that writing each romance is and adventure filled with fascinating people who never fail to surprise her. When she isn't writing, she keeps busy homeschooling her two children and thinking of new stories. She lives in New England, USA, with her husband, children and menagerie... mostly.
I admit it, the title and cover made me think this would be an old fashioned saccharine Harlequin romance with an idiotic heroine and a macho hero. Don’t judge a book by its cover. Flynn is adorable! He’s a hotshot lawyer who loves his niece and nephew, he’s tough guy shrewd but blushes when the lady has a flirtatious moment with him, he’s a macho cabin builder in his spare time who likes to cook, he’s gorgeous and has a great sense of humor. I wasn’t prepared for him or Ms. Seeger’s delightful snarkiness when she describes people and places in NY. As a native Brooklynite, I loved the personality she gave different parts of NY. I laughed when she described Long Island as the frumpy sister to Manhattan. Constance was a heroine with a calm personality and a brain. She was almost a bit too emotionless as times, but I’ll take that over a foot stomper. The book read like a precursor to a thriller. There was a story and it was more of a limelight hogger than the romance. The story was realistically portrayed with detail that made sense. That’s why the thriller like ending was a bit disappointing.
