What I love about this book is the imagery, you can pick it up and become familiar with the most famous works of ancient art from whatever particular civilisation you are interested in. My only criticism is that its section of Australasia includes almost nothing of Australian aboriginal art. IThe section on Sumerian and Mesopotamian art is very in-depth.
