1.5 stars. I wasn't pissed after finishing it...but it just wasn't good. I thought about DNF'ing this book before 50%. I simply hung in there for the mystery of "the trauma"...and it wasn't worth it.

I believe this is now one of my pet peeves in reading. The story of a strong, capable female warrior who has guys that want to tame and protect her. The guys don't want her to continue being a strong capable warrior and instead become a timid 'princess' at home depending on her big strong man to protect and provide. That's a horrible ego issue with the hero in my opinion.

PLOT: Skylar is an Alliance Elite office with special talents. She can channel energy through her body and damage/kill people. She's an interrogator for the Alliance. She is also half human. You find out halfway into the book that she is half Tartarus. She can't remember anything from before she was 12 years old because of some kind of trauma.
Skylar is a "scroll" which means she is fertile and can breed. Because of her special talent, she has been given the exemption to choose her own mates instead of the usual Alliance caveman claiming crap.

The romance of the book is already going and fully stalled when the story begins. Skylar's boss Dom is waiting for her. He isn't trying to woo her or lure her in any way. He's an arrogant, domineering jerk that can only communicate via yelling and orders. I never warmed up to his character or saw his worth at all.

The other beau wanting to claim Skylar is Arik. He's a D'Aire. They have wings, can fly and have fated soul mates called "Keepers". Arik isn't quite as big of a jerk as Dom. He's more passive but still waiting on Skylar and not doing anything to make her feel special or treasured.

Are you bored yet? I'm nearly nodding off recounting this.

The major plot arc is this new drug called xii from one planet that causes people to loose their memory and be susceptible to suggestion for a period of time. Like an ugly guy could claim a beautiful woman out of his league and she would be convinced she loved him.

The Alliance group are going to hunt down the distributor and stop them.

The search of course takes them to planet Tartarus where Skylar must confront her ghosts. She bonds with both Dom and Arik. No wooing, no romance, no sweetness. Just a lot of demanding, yelling and male egos.

HEA
Wouldn't really call this erotica. The romance sucked.

Not recommended.

Absolutely wonderful series, totally draws you into the stories. Characters that are multifaceted creating an awesome emotional rollercoaster ride in a dangerous, challenging world where everyone, everything is and can be a new chapter in their lives and relationships. So glad Skyler got her addition to the series. I recommend you check out the whole series. I'm hoping for more additional stories there's plenty of supporting characters that are deserving of their own special place in this series. You're going to love this fantastic storyline and series!!!!

I just have fallen in love with this series. I loved this book. It was a great mix of awesome steam and story. This was a very good read. I loved getting to see a glimpse of previous characters and getting a update was nice. I am hoping there will be more in this series.

I have decided to reread the series because of the several new additions to the series I wanted to re-experience the 3013 world. I am so glad I did I get to revisit all my favorite characters and I am so in love with this series.

As this book opens, Skylar Aris and her friend Reva Golaris, a Helios shifter, are enjoying a drink together on X7 when she notices two generals staring at her with a look she knows well. Skylar is an unclaimed scroll, however, she has exempt status and can't be claimed without her permission due to her unique ability to manipulate energy. If she has to deal with these men, she'd be in trouble with her bosses again. It is fortunate that they choose to approach when she's having a conversation with High Commander Jax Spartan. While not as satisfying for Skylar and Reva, it was definitely amusing to watch.

Back on New Vega where the investigation has been centered, Reva goes to check with her security team, leaving Skylar with the younger of the owners of New Vega. He delivers the message from the high commander, but also lets her know that her director and her winged friend aren't happy she left without them knowing.

The meeting with High Commander Jax Spartan wasn't just with him it was also a video call with Regents Newgate and Spartan. Their current investigation will take them to Tartarus and it's likely Skylar's past will come into play since she is half Tarin. Apparently, the council feels her powers are becoming unstable and if she doesn't choose a bonding pair, she will be removed from duty after this assignment.

Director Dominic Stryker has known Skylar is meant to be his chosen since the day she walked into his office. It's something that happens to the men in his family one look is all it takes. He's fought off his urges keeping everything between them on a strictly professional level, hoping she'll come to the realization that they belong together. He was surprised to find that she is also destined to be his best friend Ambassador Arik V’Dir's Keeper.

After finding out about the meeting with the Regents and their decree, Dom and Arik need to convince Skylar it's time for her to claim them and deal with her past.

It's after a conversation with Serra and Alexis that Skylar realizes she's fooling no one where her feelings for Dom and Arik are concerned. That being said, and with both Dom and Arik making more focused moves on her she decides it's time to let go of the past for now.

The claiming tattoo has both Dom and Arik's initials, even though Skylar hasn't bonded with Arik as of yet. That will come shortly, but in the meantime, they have an investigation to continue.

Things ramp up very quickly from this point and the suspense is only heightened the closer they get to the source.

I love this series and I am buying these books as quickly as I am able.

DNF at 38%. Typically when I DNF a book, it gets a much lower rating but to be fair, I don't think this is a bad book, I just don't give a shit about the plot line or the characters anymore. I don't think it's a matter of "not in the mood for" because I've been all about this genre lately, it seems like this book is more plot heavy and I am starting to feel like the plot is stupid and was completely avoidable. It's written well and I have no complaints there. I also am not a big fan of these characters. I guess I'm tired of the stubbornly independent chick who fights the mating bond so hard for no good reason. More on that later...

Quick Rundown: Chick was rescued at a young age (severly beaten and on death's door) from a planet of generally bad guys who make harems out of women and has since repressed her memories of that planet. Turns out she's a mix of races and has a singular ability something along the lines of electrocuting people which has given her the opportunity to become an elite warrior but she's also special because she is marked as one of the few "humans" who can reproduce though she's been given immunity to being claimed by other males not of her choosing though all unmated males choose to disregard that because of her extreme beauty. She's kinda known that she's going to eventually have be mated by two dudes but she is so determined to maintain her independence and love of kicking ass for the Alliance. Boss dude who is her direct commander and a winged alien dude who has the ability to read minds or brain delve- whatever you want to call it have held of courting her to claiming. She fights to keep them at bay because she wants her freedom and the ability to run her own life and not be caged up like most fertile females are as they are in major shortage. She's been given an ultimatum as her superiors have noticed that her electro-ability is starting to get out of control and of course, only mating will release that "tension" and help her subdue going off the handle and killing people with her electro skills. Will she accept this current mission as her last or take on mates as the ultimatum requires?

Characterization: at 38% in, there's very little said about the two dudes and I wasn't feeling the connection they had to the chick though to be fair, I didn't read the previous book so maybe i missed out on some of that. The chick is further developed but she's so obstinate and proud that I had a hard time liking her at all. I kept wanting to tell her to "get over yourself" and "you aren't the only person in the world". Once the dudes admit their desires to mate with her, she fights this so hard instead of communicating with them about how they are going to treat her and what they'll allow her to do as their mate. These dudes know that they are going to have to give her a compromise in allowing her to be some sort of asset to the warrior/elite intergalactic space force (Alliance) but they won't even discuss it- at least as far as I got. So far, this book seems to be more about the plot development with the Big Bad than the relationship of the characters. As I'm not a fan of either of these points in the novel, I gave up because there's nothing for me personally to care about. You might find otherwise, hence my 3 star rating.

Plot: So the Big Bad in this story is the same from the others- there's somebody out there utilizing a forbidden plant (xilli, I think it's called) that is highly illegal and used to alter people's minds to the users wishes. And it is already understood that this drug is a serious weapon to be used by bad guys. And for some unknown reason, the Alliance has approved of it's use in a study to further enhance the abilities of their soldiers. Immediately all I could think of is why are you opening up the world to studying a plant that has such a history of being abused that it has almost been eradicated on the planet it is naturally grown? As soon as they mentioned the study that was taking place, I was dumbfounded on why they are opening themselves up to a situation where the plant could be stolen and used for malicious intent? Clearly, the negatives far outweigh the positives and I found it hard to believe that they would so carelessly approach this venture that clearly has gone wrong in its inception alone? So, at this point, I hate the premise of the plot because it seems so short sighted and this book seemed to be focused heavily on the plot and the character's relationships secondary that I found I just didn't care enough to continue reading. I mean, with the history of man behind this futuristic novel, did they not remember the the faults of man past in meddling with what could become biological warfare? Nope, some scientist (who probably has ulterior motives) deems a study appropriate to see if it can be used for some kind of good though there's little evidence it will and the higher ups just give the go ahead without having their elite soldiers involved to make sure safety measurements were implemented in it's acquisition or handling and of course, it's immediately in the hands of the bad guys because of such short-sightedness.

Overall: I can't not recommend this book, especially if one has read the other novels and are in love with the plotline and the characters. For me, I didn't like the chick's stubbornness and found it to be so over the top that I wan't to slap her. I feel like I was "told" more about their attraction than actually "shown" so the characters aren't holding me into finishing the book. Even though I didn't finish this book, if you have read and enjoyed the others, I'm sure this one is a nice addition and will be enjoyable. For me, I'm over the misuse of this plant drug and find the plot ludicrous for intelligent beings to pursue. In theory, the people running the show are super smart so why allow something so stupid to happen? There's not a darn thing wrong in the writing but this series plot has taken a turn that I realize I just don't give a crap about. I will say that I'm curious as to what trauma the Chick had in her youth and I might end up skimming the rest of the book to find out but that's about all I care about and it's not enough for me to pick back up right now because I don't really care for the other characters. Maybe, someday I will.

As one of the rare fertile females left, Skylar Aris knows her future is to be chosen (mated, bred) by not one but two 'elite' males, but her abilities as a Class-A Conduit and position as a female interrogator in the Security and Interrogation Division have granted her the rarer privilege of approving who SHE will accept as a mate.

Director Dominic Stryker & D’Aire Ambassador Arik V’Dir don't like to share their women but in accordance with martial law they know it's required to be able to claim a female. With each of them wanting Skylar, they decide to present a united front though privately what they choose to do behind closed doors is nobody's business but their own.

When circumstances change and Skylar is forced to make a decision that will affect her future, she takes a closer look at Dominic and Arik, her commanding officers. Little do the three realize that their bonding would be the catalyst to unleash memories and powers that are personal, military, and political game changers.

* * *

I started reading 3013: The Series looking forward to a futuristic series of alpha warrior males who are elite uber military soldiers. You know. The baddest of the bad type of personality because that's what they need to be in the world building the author has created. Their reward is the 'privilege' of claiming a female who may or may not want to be theirs. It's then up to them to make the magic happen. Ok. Two installments in I realized this wasn't the case and dropped the series.

When I saw the blurb for 3013: SALVATION I got excited and couldn't help myself. Strong female main character with mystery and secrets who stood up to the big boys and held her own. Chill factor anticipation....

On the other side, two uber dominant alpha males who have risen to power and don't share. Each strong in their own right and a force to be reckoned with. Yuppers. Get the popcorn and beverage of choice out and settle in ......

While there were pockets of excellence that worked well in premise and presentation, the overall story for me was like eating cotton candy. Sweet, decadent, but, for the most part, predictable and fluffy air. Not enough meaningful plot story line partnered with way too much non adult content romance left me wanting. Also, the world building had a back stage feel. There's one scene where Skylar and her side kick Reva (who I really really really wanted more of and about) where I would have appreciated being fleshed out more. Mazes and all. Not a fan of climatic scenes barely making a blip in terms of cause and effect. Nope. Not at all even if the outcome is a good one.

As for the romance/adult content. For those who enjoy more than scene black fade out, there are a number of m/f scenes I'm sure you will enjoy as much as I did.

For those fans of futuristic sci-fi adult content romance this is a standalone story that you might want to check out. The overall vibe is a fantasy rose colored glasses presentation but that's not always a bad thing is it?

Me? I'm looking forward to Reva and Lord Malik. Keeping my fingers crossed that the author realizes that a shapeshifting warrior she-cat and a uber dominant warrior warlord deserve to have a story that plays to embracing the carnal world they live in.

2013: Salvation by Laurie Roma is the fifth book in 3013: The Series. I really like the way this series is going. It just keeps getting better and better. Ms Roma blends humor with dominate men in this book. Skylar is just as dominate as her men. Which I liked. Ms Roma was able to bring me a strong female character who is both likeable and passionate. Skylar is a scroll. Most Scrolls are not given the right to chose their mates, but Skylar is. She is a tough interrogator, and will not bond for fear of losing her choices and freedom.
Dominic is the head of Security and Interrogation division. He keeps a tight rein on his own wants because he is scared of scaring Skylar off for good. He even has his best friend Arik be his other bonded because he knows Skylar wants him too. He makes a lot of sacrifices for Skylar, some she has yet to learn of.
Arik is a D’Aire. Usually they take only one mate. The keeper of their heart, but he knows Skylar needs two so he is okay with Dominic. After all they are best friends.
When Skylar has been given the ultimatum to bond or lose her job she knows the fight is up. She will have to choose mates, and she knows they will be Arik and Dominic. She fights though till the bitter end.
I like Arik and his cool logic getting stripped away by his keeper. Also loved the description of his wings. Made me want to be able to touch them too.
Dominic and Arik turn out to be perfect for Skylar, bonding with them will give her a freedom she has never known, if she will just give up fighting them every step of the way.
I love the 3013: The Series, and I am looking forward to many more books in this fantastical series. I want to know much more about the D’Aire and other races. I think anyone who loves a great sci fi romance should pick up this series really it doesn’t disappoint. This series should be read in order to get all the ins and outs of everything.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

5 out of 5 Stars

What did I like?
Sneaky, sneaky males. I love that Sky was able to find a way to be a bridge for their mating.

Recommendation: I am hoping to see something with Reva and the Krystos in the next books. I can't wait for the next one!

Paranormal romance at its best

The storyline is full of galactic suspense. The alliance keeps peace and protects but enemies try to ruin that peace. The trio of lovers fight to come together and to eradicate the bad forces. Good combination of action and hot steaming love of three.

A fast paced story with any number of unexpected elements, twists and turns which keeps the reader engaged. As in each of the other books, world building continues. In this book, three individuals involved in the romantic triad have known each other for some time and have deep feelings for each other.

There is a lot of sexual tension and some really sizzling sex. I particularly liked "seeing" the feelings between the three deepen and the relationship develop. The principal characters are three dimensional and it is easy to relate to them. I think this book and the first 2 books in the series are the best so far. Really enjoyed this read. I rated the book at 4.45 and assigned a sexy rating of 4.5. I have to say that I am hooked on this series and as a result have bought more of the books.

Almost cliffhanger

The characters were well written, and I liked the heroine. There were some questions that didn't get answered that I suspect will be in a subsequent book, and the ending was abrupt. Some typos and grammar errors, medium spice, RH dystopian romance, no M/M. I will give the next book a chance.

Intriguing

As usual, an entertaining, well-told story. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was the desperately needed proofreading for poor word choices and omitted words. Will read more of Miss Roma's books, they are always a pleasure to read.

Salvation for three

Skylar has rejected relationships for a long time because she can't remember her past and worries it could be due to something really bad she may have done. But with friends and patience of those who live her she may take a chance.

Ok I have to say it's official I am a huge/massive/humongous Laurie Roma fan, considering I just gave 5 stars for a storyline I'm not over fond of. But how could I not, LR is the only author who does not ignore the massive elephant in the middle of everything.
I'm old enough to be very sheepish of the bodice rippers I used to read in my youth, because seriously there was some really harsh stuff going on in those and it was supposedly all good because it was just fiction/fantasy so a very young me sighed and whimpered and dreamed of my very own pirate/bandit/highwayman to sweep me off my feet and ravish me... ouch!
Because the older I got the more my head would tell me... umm yeah there's another r word for what I'm flushing over and it's not something I feel comfortable fantasizing about, because the reality of that is not pretty and certainly not arousing.
A few decades down the lane and I'm very glad to see that the romance genre has grown and become a much more responsible genre. Writers are realizing that they have a responsibility to the young people reading their work and not trivialize the need for safe sex and safety in general. And yet there is still that leeetle need we seem to have for the odd ravishment fantasy. Get it, really I do, for some of us it's that little bit of naughty that gets the edge we need to ring our bells, so we get that in Barbarian/alien/futuristic erotica, abducted and forced into a claiming/pregnancy/whatever.
The elephant is the fact, that there may be end of the world reasons why she/he has to put out, or there may be instant lust, sudden mating fever, whatever the excuse it all boils down to it still being No means "yeah ok you hot so just jump on and I'll catch up with you eventually".
Laurie Roma has not shied away from shining a light on that and found a way to make her books consensual and yet still give us our jollies. No matter how hot and bothered, how hunky the guys, how desperately horny the lady, how lost in lust they all are she points out the feminist side of the facts and never makes me feel even slightly uncomfortable with how everything turns out.
So yep biggest fan .. loud and proud!

~~Read and Reviewed for WeLoveKink via Manic Readers~~~

I've had the pleasure of reading 3 out of 5 in this series. Ms Roma so feeds my love for Science Fiction
with hot and fun characters. Strong men and even strong sassy females.
I love the balance that Arik brings to Dom and Skylar, Arik in his mellowness is just suited for both his other high spirited bonds. Skylar stubborn hot and sexy.. has given Dom and even Arik the run around for a while. Dom all his gruffness underlies the softness and passion he has for Skylar. With an investigation on the books, Skylar feels she doesn't have time to deal with her own personal issues. Her feelings for Dom and for Arik she doesnt even want to look at too closely. Arik and Dom will also need to come to terms with the whole sharing thing if they want Skylar. On top of helpng her cope with her past if and when it comes to light.

As much as I loved this story.. at first I had all kinds of attitude because of the relationship between Dom and Arik. With Menage relationships they are already hard, I was so used to most of the tri-couples jumpin in and being together. This one threw me a bit, which was good mostly. (smiles.)
Its not often I'll even say I like heroines but Skylar is another one that I found I simply adored and love her style. Its so much fun to see other characters from previous books having parts in these books, its one of the things I loved about his series. Awesome job Ms Roma... I cant wait to read Reva's story... she will have one yes??

Great continuation of the series with a strong showing from previous characters, including Alexia and the dragon warriors from the first 3013 book, Mated. I desperately hope Reva's story is next up and there are several other characters I look forward to witnessing their happily ever after. My single criticism was that of editing as there were way too many little typos and usage errors peppered throughout the book (the use of lead when the author meant led is a personal peeve that made me wince). I hope the author will consider updating the book's Amazon file at some point to fix the dozen or so tiny errors as I certainly plan to re-read this series and want to avoid anything that jars me out of the terrific world these to authors have created!

While I enjoyed this book and liked that Skylar was strong enough to be a good match for her dominant males, Military Director Dominic Stryker Arik V'Dir, an Ambassador from D'Aire.

For me it took way too long to get to the mating of this trio. Too drawn out, as if the author didn't have enough material to put into the story. The story behind Skylar's birth and her father was one of the more interesting aspects of the book.

YES, I would recommend this book as an excellent addition to a wonderful series.

Love this series, Love this book

This is a well written book with great pace and flow. The heroine is strong enough to handle her two alpha males. It is always good to have a witty woman whose sharp mind allows her to take her males on. The two alpha males complement each other's strengths and they were smart enough to find a way to share Skylar. This series builds a believable futuristic world with interesting people and places. Well done Laurie Roma, well done.

Skylar is another character from the first book that I really couldn't wait to see her story and what happens. I really liked this one! I was a little iffy the way the story opened up, but it turned out better than I expected. Skylar, Dom, and Arik are all independent in personality, making their romance vastly entertaining as they learn how to adjust to their new relationship. Lots of steam, action, and some sweet-and comical-moments, 3013: Salvation is a great addition to the series!
