Practical Uses for Princes With Pointed Ears

Rate this book
Lillian Chambers was just an ordinary high school teacher, until she fell through a Fairy Circle. When she came to on the other side, she was surprised to find herself in the company of an Elven prince she thought only existed in her dreams. Now she’s slaying monsters and rescuing Prince Tallyn, instead of playing the part of the damsel in distress.

Tallyn had been the protector of his kingdom for over one hundred years. He knows that the world is filled with danger around every corner, but these days he’s finding himself babysitting the annoyingly fearless Lady Lillian.

When their worlds collide sparks fly, humorous situations ensue and the only thing for sure is that neither will ever be the same. Practical Uses for Princes with Pointed Ears takes readers on an adventure into a modern fairytale where we explore what it really means to fall for Prince Not-so-Charming.

Isabelle has been around the world and back. When she isn't writing you can find her filming, reading, or even armored up with a sword and fighting. There is very little she can't do.

When asked how she does it, Isabelle smiles and says "Be kind to others, work hard, and keep trying."

I don't want to leave an utterly scathing negative review for a new(ish) indie author, so I'm just going to say that from the title and blurb I thought I was going to get a much funnier fantasy flavoured romantic comedy about an Elven prince "babysitting" the dimensional hopping "fearless Lady Lillian" through a series of "humorous situations". Instead I got something very much closer to a stock PNR revolving around "soul mates" having lots of sex, a rather bland Mary Sue heroine , a bad case of all the mythical beings having "humans with pointy ears" syndrome, and a rather predictable plot full of coincidental conveniences and a bitchy, spoilt, gold-digger villainess cliche.

Also the whole "public" claiming and branding to "seal" the binding ceremony still makes no sense to me.

I tend to stick mostly with vampire and witch stories in the paranormal genre, venturing into the fantasy genre from time to time for a bit of variety. After reading Practical Uses for Princes With Pointed Ears, I can tell you without a doubt I'll be picking up every book this author decides to put out in the Otherworld Realms series...and I sure hope there will be a lot of them.

With an intriguing and wonderfully developed world, we're introduced into a lot of quirky characters, and one hell of a strong leading woman-Lillian. When we first meet her, she comes across as more quiet and unsure, but once she falls through the Fairy Circle, she truly blossoms into a character of amazing strength, and one who also inspires others. Tallyn is a fantastic alpha male character, strong, loyal and protective (well, at least when Lillian lets him LOL). The cast of supporting characters is rich with many other fantasy beings, and there are so many of them that I would love to see get their own stories.

From the start I was totally immersed in the story and didn't want to put it down. And it's not all adventure and laughs-though there's plenty of both-but you'll also get a nice dose of romance and steamy scenes that will leave you breathless.

An outstanding look at an enchanting fantasy world that will leave you begging for the next in the series, I give this book 5 fantastic stars!

I absolutely adore a strong leading lady and that's exactly what you get with Lily Chambers! She's not afraid to save herself, even against seemingly impossible odds. Throw in an equally strong (and stubborn) Elven prince and watch the sparks fly! Tallyn is a study in brooding masculinity but Lily seems to bring out his softer side...as well as his irritation. The woman never does what he expects! Even as his feelings grow, he fights against the knowledge that she's his Soul Mate. For some crazy reasons, he doesn't feel deserving of his title and therefore, his link to Lily. But when push comes to shove, she's HIS and he'll fight for her or with her in every single battle! Friendships are made, love is found, jelousies are discovered and magic is EVERYWHERE in this amazing story you're sure to love!

I am an independent reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock! I gave this book 5 fangs!! Wow!! The story starts with Lillian, an average school teacher by day, an excellent swordsman as a hobby…and a peeping Tom into another realm when she dreams!
An incident in the classroom has Lillian suspended from the school. Unbeknownst to Lilly, this is all part and parcel of her true destiny! Lilly is offered a position in England where she stumbles across a fairy circle that sends her to another realm.
In this realm, she meets the mystery guy she’s been “peeping” on.

Prince Tallyn feels like he’s being watched and has a deep connection to his “watcher”.
He starts to dream of his watcher, and develops a psychic bond with her.
One night, he stumbles across a strange female wearing men’s clothing. He comes to realise that she is one and the same female from his dreams.

Lilly is at home in this realm. With her sword wielding skills, she proves the hero when she comes to the rescue of Prince Tallyn – on more than one occasion.

Elves, Trolls, Dwarves & Dragons… this book has it all!

I recommend this book to YA. Does contain some mild sexual content.

This book has been on my mind ever since I saw a book blast for it in one of those blog tours. The title sure did catch my attention. What are the practical uses for princes with pointed ears? I mean, Lillian was a scholar, a teacher, and a woman who knows how to handle a sword. She did save the prince, saved herself twice (or was it thrice) and killed a feared creature all on her own. As I Fairwynn said, "a lesser man would feel more than a little threatened". Thankfully, Tallyn was a good man.

And I thank the stars that there was not so much drama here that's the norm for most stories with characters who had backgrounds like theirs and a fae world rife with politics that would put the most notorious human government to shame. I sometimes could not stomach drama for drama's sake.

As to the practical uses for elven princes, they tend to give really good back rubs.

Practical Uses for Princes with Pointed Ears is a sweet love story about a woman who is drawn to another realm because she is destined to find her Soul Mate, who happens to be an Elven prince. The beginning of this book draws the reader in with a lot of different things going on. It really grabbed my interest.

There are a lot of positive aspects about this book that I think readers will enjoy:

It’s a happily-ever-after story.
The concepts of binding and soul mates are different in this story, as compared to other books I have read. I liked that it was something new.
Lily, the heroine, is a capable fighter. She can take care of herself.
There is a precedence for Lily being able to sword fight. The skill doesn’t come out of nowhere.
Lily is a little older than the typical heroine. She’s divorced. She’s also a little rounder than some female characters. So, I like that she’s atypical.
Tallyn is a little arrogant and protective, but he’s not overly bossy or sexist. He lets Lily be herself and loves her for who she is.
Many of the other characters were well-developed and likable. Not only could I visualize what they looked like, I got a feel for their personalities.
There’s a good bit of action and danger in the story so it doesn’t become too heavy of a romance.
If you like details about royalty, you’d like the descriptions the author gives of the castle, the clothing, and the jewelry.
I didn’t notice any spelling or grammatical problems.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading Practical Uses for Princes with Pointed Ears. I didn’t find a ton of negatives about the book, but I’ll explain those that I did find…

One is regarding the sexual content in the book. Part of my complaint is that the author used the word “sex” to refer to a female body part. I know I’m probably one of very few people that gets annoyed by this, and it’s really common in romance, so I kind of have to overlook it even though I find it highly annoying. The other part of my complaint is that the character made a big deal about needing intimacy before sex, but then jumped into bed with him anyway, not even 48 hours after arriving in his land.

The second thing that bothered me was how convenient and/or easy some things seemed to be for the heroine. I would have liked for her to have failed at least one time and not had such an easy time doing things like learning to speak his language or winning battles. Along the same lines, the villain was too obvious.

Third, some details in the book didn’t match up with things written earlier. This didn’t happen often–I only have a few notes regarding this–but when it did happen, it threw me off and I had to go back to see if I was correct.

Fourth, I don’t like going back and forth between third and first person. I think it could have been just as good written from only third person. My last complaint is that the passage of time felt wrong in a couple of places. I don’t mean parts where the time passed different in the Four Kingdoms realm as compared to our realm. I’m talking about places in the story when one minute it’s morning, then the character does a few things, and suddenly it’s night.

So, as you can see, I didn’t have that many complaints and they are all pretty minor. The positives far outweigh what I thought were negatives. Of course, not everyone is going to notice or be bothered by the same things. I’m a critical reader; I feel like by being honest I am helping the writer. I hope that is the case. I have never understood why some reviewers take off stars, but then never explain why they did so. If I’m going to give it less than a full five stars, I feel I have an obligation to other readers and the author to explain why I did that. My point here is that although I have pointed things out that I didn’t particularly like about the book, it doesn’t mean that I don’t like the book as a whole. I actually thought this was a good book that a lot of fantasy romance readers will enjoy.

Bottom line, I would recommend adult readers check out Practical Uses for Princes with Pointed Ears, especially if they like stories with royalty and soul mates.

Praise Isabelle Saint-Michael!!!
This is a book I didn't want to finish, I am glad is the first of a series. Love how the female character is a strong minded, self sufficient person with a no-nonsense attitude.
This brakes the stereotype of every fairy-tale, and their happily ever after when they find prince charming.
Some very hot moments and also very funny ones too.
Note: I received a digital copy free for review and an honest and unbiased opinion.

Princes with Pointed Ears is one of the best books I've read this year! I laughed at the humor and sighed over the romance, and when I had to put it down in the middle to go to work, I had a book hangover all day!

Lillian used to love being a teacher, but ever since her ex-husband left her for a co-worker, the passion has just gone out of her life. When a student breakdown in class has parents protesting completely reasonable homework levels, she takes a sabbatical to England to research some mysterious ruins. One things leads to another, and an ominous creature chases her into a Fairy Circle, where she lands at the feet of the man of her dreams - literally!

See, Tallyn is an Elven prince that's been showing up in Lillian's dreams for the past year. She didn't think he was real (except that he was Really Good-Looking) until she winds up in his world. Now they've got to find a way to get her back home - if they can get past kidnapping goblins, terrifying monsters, court politics, and oh, their smoking-hot attraction to each other.

I've read a lot of books: a lot of fantasy, a lot of romance, and a good bit of fantasy/paranormal romance. This is definitely one of the better ones, with some witty lines I've found myself quoting in real life, totally believable characters that I yell at when I'm reading the book, and did I mention the book hangover? I can't believe this is Isabelle Saint-Michael's first book - if this is the first, I can't wait to read more!

Truly a great book!! It is filled with adventure, romance, danger and everything else that is needed to make a great story. What makes this one so entertaining is the fact that the hero of the book isn't the typical male character that always has to save to poor damsel in distress. Truly a great read that anyone who likes the fantasy worlds, but wants something just a little different needs to read.

Was looking forward to this, it sounded like fun, but it fell flat. Characters were flat. The dialogue was flat. I was glad Lily wasn't a weakling... but kinda weird she's this super warrior when she just does swordplay as a hobby in her real life. Just didn't work for me. I gave it 2 stars because I did finish it even though I was disappointed early on.
