Always the youngest but never the baby, Sibyl sometimes wonders, What good is inner strength if only you know it’s there?
Sybil loves Aunt Grace’s dark, old house, even if the upkeep is a burden the Sebastians can’t entirely afford. It feels like home, and after years of surgeries and therapy, all Sybil wants for her sixteenth birthday is to be surrounded by her crazy family in a place of their own. But Evvie’s been keeping a secret, one that puts her at risk, and when the truth finally comes out, it throws the whole family into turmoil as they struggle to face the facts.
Sybil may not have Evvie’s charm, Thea’s patience, or Claire’s beauty, but she does have quiet, perceptive, and absolutely determined. When her father, Nicky, declares that he’s found a solution to their troubles, Sybil faces a difficult choice—and her heart tells her there are some betrayals that can never be forgiven.
Susan Beth Pfeffer was an American author best known for young adult and science fiction. why did i rate this the same as Claire when IT IS A KNOWN FACT THAT I CRY MY EYES OUT DURING SYBIL?!
i shouldn't ever rate these things. i never make any sense when i'm rating books, but otherwise, i make so much sense. for instance, i have been spending hours making a google image collection of all the actors i would require to film the whole Sebastian Sisters series. yes, is a very quarantine thing to do, BUT the 1991-me that loved these books without even genuinely liking them would soooo totally get it.
While each book in the Sebastian Sisters series highlights one of the sisters the series really show the progression of the family dynamics as the girls grow up and discover the life they lived wasn't real. Sybil's story is one of the most dramatics as several plot lines come to an explosive head. I'm looking forward to Meg's story to hopefully wrap everything up.
Bizarre book populated by the most dysfunctional family ever. Perhaps I would have liked it more if I had read the rest of the series, but I have no desire to.
