Masashi Kishimoto (岸本斉史 Kishimoto Masashi) is a Japanese manga artist, well known for creating the manga series Naruto. His younger twin brother, Seishi Kishimoto, is also a manga artist and creator of the manga series O-Parts Hunter (666 Satan) and Blazer Drive. Two of his former assistants, Osamu Kajisa (Tattoo Hearts) and Yuuichi Itakura (Hand's), have also gone on to moderate success following their work on Naruto.

Kishimoto's first work as a manga artist was Karakuri (カラクリ?), which he submitted to Shueisha in 1995. This earned him the Weekly Shōnen Jump's monthly "Hop Step Award" in 1996, granted to promising new manga artists. This was followed in 1997 by a pilot version of Naruto (NARUTO-ナルト-), published in Akamaru Jump Summer. In 1998, Kishimoto premiered as a Weekly Shōnen Jump artist with a serialized version of Karakuri in Weekly Shōnen Jump, but it proved unpopular and was canceled soon after. In 1999, a serialized version of Naruto began publication in Weekly Shōnen Jump and quickly became a hit.

A few good moments, particularly between Naruto and Minato, but also a lot of bloated and plodding meandering toward some kind of climax. Obito becomes the jinchuriki of Ten Tails, but looks like the woody things half his body's made of don't really mesh well with biju, because he keeps looking weirder and weirder. The horn on his head is a particularly nice touch ;).

Lots of info-dumping in the middle of the prolonged fight, serving as an introduction for a new ancient foe that's supposed to surpass all other foes, I guess?? I know one thing, these Uchiha seem to be incredibly well informed compared to literally everyone else. Unless, of course, they got it all wrong anyway, and are just keeping those dumb stone tablets as a very early example of misinformation...

Anyhoo, Naruto gets some well-deserved moments in the spotlight, Minato finally gets to apologise to his son and relieve all his regrets only to be forgiven - which is understandable, but I still feel bad for what Kishimoto's been putting Naruto through. Just give the poor boy a break already!

And of course, Special Snowflake Sasuke is as bratty as ever, which with unlimited amounts of jealousy added to the mix makes him even more unbearable. Nasty piece of work.

Of course things never stay hopeful. Obito takes a few awesome hits, but in the end, the end is pretty obviously going to be the alliance's. What can anyone do against the power of a god?

Still, it was too awesome to see Naruto getting a freaking pep talk from Sasuke of all people. It reminded me nicely of the beginning of the series.

This is where the writing is starting to get messy. Naruto and Kurama are literally forced by the narrative to forgive Minato's terrible decision to make Naruto a Jinchuriki. I mean, it's pretty obvious Kishimoto was aware he kind of fucked up when he showed us in Kusina's flashback that Minato deliberately killed himself, his wife, and orphaned his son for the sake of a stupid prophecy and fictional nationalism. If he wasn't, why did he struggle to defend it so hard over the span of several chapters?

It's also kind of annoying how Tobirama keeps comparing Naruto to Hashirama every goddamn panel he's in, almost like Kishimoto just got the idea for an incoming plot point and he needs to force it somehow into the narrative. I wonder if it has anything to do with those random namedrops, the Otsusukis? (sarcastic) Hmmm 🤔

A traditional volume of good versus evil as the stakes continue to grow larger than life. It's huge bombastic fun but nothing extraordinary, at least in the form of this manga volume, as this could translate into some of the most epic animated moments ever.

There are some really annoying dialogues and moments here and there. Sasuke being at the frontline of those moments. But, hey, it's been a while since we've all been looking forward to some of the teenage dynamics.

A huge focus is also put on Naruto and Minato, which works only half the time (get it?). It's also odd to separate Madara's battle with the First but clearly, that's a subplot that needs an ultimatum.

Another great volume! This time we finally have Obito becoming the Jinchurriki of the ten tails aka the Juubi and he is fighting on a whole different level, all the 4 hokages and shinobis are having a tough time, but they press on. Naruto and his dad activate the kyuubi mode and are fighting, combining their attacks, but Obito keeps evolving to a whole another level and when it all seems down, Naruto shares his chakra and thusby feelings and motivating them even further to press on one last time and not give up!! That was amazing to see, like and moments where even though there are moments of insecurities, don't give in to them and continue to fight, becuase there is a silver lining always there and Narutos dream of Hokage will happen and even the other Hokages acknowledge him!!

Bom demais 🥳
( Highlights do manga:

This is a review of the entire series.

Once upon a time, the spirit of an evil Nine Tailed Fox wreaked havoc on Konohagakure; the Village Hidden in the Leaves, killing hundreds of honorable ninja in the skirmish and leaving many children without homes or parents. The Fourth Hokage (leader of the village) unleashes a forbidden jutsu (magic spell/ninja ability) to seal the spirit of the evil fox into the body of a newborn baby named Naruto at the cost of his own life. He did this in the hopes that the boy could one day learn to master the power of the demonic spirit and use it to protect the village and become a great hero of the people.

Unknown to the citizens of the Leaf, the Nine Tailed Fox was being controlled by an even more powerful adversary, a legendary rogue ninja that plans to wage war against the entire world from the shadows. The identity of the mysterious ninja that attacked the Leaf Village using the Nine Tails died with the Fourth Hokage, and he used what remained of his life to gift Naruto with the power of one day being able to stop this evil ninja and a clan of outlawed S-rank criminals called the Akatsuki from committing mass genocide against the many hidden villages and clans of the world.

Because of the evil spirit sealed inside him, Naruto grew up hated by the other children of the village because they believe him and the Nine Tails to be one and the same. They believe he’s a ticking time bomb waiting to go off, waiting for the perfect moment to kill them all just like the Nine Tails killed their parents and families. Shunned, dehumanized and treated like dirt, Naruto vows to become the greatest hokage the world has ever seen so that he can receive the love and acknowledgement he never got as a child.

On top of the Nine Tails power and the will to never quit, Naruto also possesses the uncanny ability to turn everyone he meets into a potential comrade. He brings out the best in his peers and tries his hardest to make his enemies see the errors of their ways. He disobeys the rules and ignores cultural traditions to try and make changes to the world and break the eternal cycle of war and hatred through his own methods. His determination is infectious to friend and foe alike. He earns himself the respect he deserves by overcoming one impossible obstacle at a time.

Naruto encounters many fascinating and terrifying ninja over the course of his journey to become hokage. Among them are Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto’s best friend and rival who is driven by the vengeful lust to murder his elder brother after he wiped out their own clan in cold blood. Sasuke warms up to Naruto, but his hatred and trauma are dangerous forces that threaten to break his moral code as a ninja and destroy his reputation among his peers.

Kakashi Hatake is a notorious copycat ninja that survived one of the most brutal and devastating wars in history as well as the Nine Tails attack on the Leaf Village. He becomes Naruto and Sasuke’s mentor and teaches them a great number of valuable lessons about surviving in the dangerous world of rogue ninja, bloodthirsty assassins and clans ruled by corruption.

Jiraiya is a perverted yet wise sage who taught the Fourth Hokage everything he knew and he’s regarded as a god among shinobi that’s famous for his heroic actions in the second great ninja war. He takes an interest in Naruto and raises him as a father figure to carry on the legacy of the Fourth Hokage to prepare him for the many dangerous people that want to use his power for their own nefarious purposes.

The Akatsuki is one such group of wicked ninja. Among them are Sasuke’s brother Itachi who murdered his clan and possesses many dangerous techniques involving illusions, psychological torture and elemental manipulation. Sasori who controls poisonous puppets with magical threads, Orochimaru who mastered the forbidden arts of reanimation and quasi-immortality, Deidara who fights from afar using detonating clay and many other deadly foes.

The entire series chronicles Naruto and his fellow ninja comrades growing through countless trials and tragedies. There are hundreds of unique jutsus, clans, and techniques which lead to some very intense, creative and strategic battles between skilled ninja with diverse abilities that don’t always match up evenly. There are clan based abilities such as the Aburame clan’s ability to control insects, the Yamanaka clan’s ability to jump into other people’s minds and control their bodies and the Inuzuka clan’s ability to bond with wolves that learn to mimic their master’s battle skills. Then there’s ocular genetic abilities such as the sharingan which allows the user to create psychological illusions, copy their enemy’s abilities and manipulate elemental energy. The byakugan allows the user to read their enemies vital points and detect their spiritual energy from faraway. The rinnegan grants control over space and gravity and so on.

On top of having countless unique abilities, nearly every character has a tragic backstory that makes them sympathetic and relatable, even the nastiest of the villains have well-explored reasons for following the paths they do and becoming the way they are. One of my favorite aspects of the series is how well it explores the physical, emotional and psychological effects war can have on society and culture as well as the survivors and future generations that are forced to live in them. How it breeds racism and cultural disputes, how it inspires hatred in orphaned children and war veterans robbed of their homes toward foreign nations, as well as how this eventually leads to further death, war, poverty and destruction. Learning to forgive the ones you hate to prevent further conflict and damaging the world for future generations even further is a major theme throughout the story.

Being a massive 700 chapter series, it’s not too surprising that there’s some plot holes and consistency issues. A rule might be stated regarding the requirements and usage of a certain jutsu or ability only for that rule to be repeatedly broken 400 chapters later. Sometimes the characters and rules contradict themselves, sometimes the chronology of certain events and historical facts don’t match up perfectly, the lore and general backstory go through several retcons that change the philosophy and power scaling of the characters and the scope of world-building; the final arc especially drags on and breaks a lot of the logic and rules that the story spent the whole series setting up, etc...

Naruto’s far from perfect, but I remember it very fondly for being one of the first series that introduced me to things like manga and Japanese entertainment in general. It was one of those childhood classics like Dragon Ball, Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin. The series grew up with me and I can’t help but feel grateful to it for introducing me to hundreds of other franchises that I’m still a huge fan of to this day and I continue to find many new ones on the regular. Naruto's journey from a clownish, disrespected outcast into a talented, well-loved and admired hero is a memorable one.

~2/5

I read several of the first volumes in this series, and watched about the same amount of the anime. But I never cared enough to continue it, or just never got around to it. But when I received this volume, I thought why not read it? I knew that I was way behind in the series—I’d heard things and saw things about it, so I knew I’d missed a whole bunch—but I figured I’d see what was going on, and if it would catch my interest enough to want to read more.

Sadly, it, um, didn’t.

I was definitely confused. I thought I understood at least some of the way the ninja thing worked, but most of this went way over my head. It didn’t help, I don’t think, that this entire volume was in the middle of a fight, so I had no idea what had already happened. There were several characters I recognized, but also a lot of new ones, and all of them in different positions than I knew of. And the enemy they were fighting just seemed to be god-moding, which bothered me.

I’ve pretty much just drawn the conclusion that this series isn’t for me. I was beyond confused, a little annoyed, and mostly just not enjoying myself.

I’m glad I read it, but I don’t think I want to read any more.

A review copy (of both) was provided by the publisher, VIZ Media, and Erik Jansen from MediaLab PR. Thank you so, so much!

This was an amazing volume in the Naruto series. It is showing the beginning of the final epic war to save the world from being destroyed by Madara Uchiha. This volume in this saga left me wanting more. I got goosebumps when Obito, who everyone thought died 13 years ago, was the tan tails jinchuriki (host). This volume also showed taught some readers lessons like the importance and strength of a friendship bond like the bonds between Naruto and Sasuke or Kakashi and Obito. I hope people enjoy this book as much as I did because I believe it is one of the best in the series.

This volume is about people filled with regrets convincing themselves they've got no regrets.

Obito becomes the Ten-Tails jinchuuriki which leaves him looking ugly. He isn't able to fully control the power until he reaffirms to himself that he is Obito Uchiha of Konoha, comrade of Kakashi, Rin and Minato. He's not gonna admit it though so he attacks his former sensi instead, with words and jutsu. Did Minato really think telling Obito enough was enough was going to work? I also don't think realising it was Obito was going to save the world on the day of Naruto's birth.

Obito picks at Minato's failure to save his team, his wife and his leaving Naruto behind. Minato also harbours these regrets and you can tell he accepts these as failures, but Naruto is his son. Even if he truly believed in these accusations, you know it's different. You can call your parents out for everything wrong they've ever done, every failure they've committed, but you can't allow someone else to speak of or to your parents like that. I do think Naruto blames Minato in any way for leaving him behind and burdening with this fate, he's been so alone he can't refuse any affection, even if the audience is able to see otherwise. However, it was nice to see Naruto defend his dad like that and mirroring his move was glorious. It was also wonderful to see Minato's pride in Naruto, and his likeness to his mother, he deserves it all.

On the other hand, Sasuke reeks of jealousy right now. Why was it so funny when he jumped in front of Naruto? Naruto looks shyly happy that Sasuke appears to be protecting him, but then Sasuke essentially comes out with "I'm the one who's gonna kill Naruto, not you." He actually says he's going to sever the past, the past represented by the picture of young Team 7 with only Naruto ripped out. It was such a funny visual that the bane of Sasuke's existence is this little brat with a stank face. Sasuke's that friend who's willing to be nice to you as long as you stay in your place beneath them and then tries to drag you down whenever they feel threatened by your growth.

Naruto works with his father, Sasuke, the Second, Kurama and the allied forces to face Obito. There's so many combined moves in this fight which are quite ingenious as everyone fits in with Naruto like he's the most malleable fighter who can work with anyone. Naruto's biggest hit against Obito is thanks to his observation of Gamakichi and Tobirama's jutsu. The Kurama in him and in his father help him save the entire allied forces with Minato. Kurama and Naruto's friendship is cuter than any friendship Naruto has with anyone else and he makes friends so easily when people give him a chance. Even the Third Hokage swoops in at the end with his magic monkey stick to help Naruto. Hashirama can't help because he's been accosted by his biggest fan Madara who really wants a piece of him.

The constant usurpation of Tobirama's jutsus is quite hilarious. He made all these dangerous jutsu and now everyone's taking them and improving them. I'd be mad too. Geniuses and idiot-geniuses all round.

I wonder if that would have changed everything if Naruto had reached out to Sasuke as a child. He was probably too scared because he'd been rejected so much, but if they had each other from the beginning, would their rivalry still have turned toxic? Would Sasuke have left?

Obito has now released the divine tree which is going to project a genjutsu on the moon and cast everyone into sleep whilst draining their chakra. The only way the moon could be seen by everyone is if the Earth is flat right? Which means the Naruto verse has a flat Earth, unless Madara does something to the moon.

There are five more volumes until we get to the finale of this war and the series and, honestly, I don't how there's going to be five more volumes worth of information left for this series. I feel like we're already at the end and I have no clue about what those last five volumes will pertain. I would assume that at most two volumes could wrap up the series, so I'm worried that it'll drag on more than it needs to. I really hope that we get a lot of time to see the aftermath of the war, I really just want to see everyone live happily ever after especially after all the horrible things that have happened in this war arc. Things are looking bleak for the Allied Shinobi Forces because Obito has officially become the Ten Tails Jinchuriki. I really loved his design here. Obito just looks so uncanny and eerie after his Jinchuriki transformation, I think this makes him an even scarier and more intimidating as a villain. I also think mixing Obito and Ten Tails' personalities just added to the fear factor. Throughout this entire war, I've felt that the antagonists' power was absolutely insurmountable, but each time we see something new, whether it be different jutsu we haven't seen before or having a new ally join the good guys. But this is the first time where I don't think there's anything that the Allied Forces can pull out to change this outcome. I could make a guess at what, but our antagonists have literal godlike power, no matter how much hope they have, I don't really get how the Allies could get the upper-hand. I could be a bit pessimistic, though. There is a small window of hope when Obito and Ten Tail seem to clash, but that doesn't last long. Getting to see what Obito can do as the Ten Tails Jinchuriki was brought in a whole new level of terror to this war, even when he hasn't synced to Ten Tails yet. I wasn't expecting him to sync up to Ten Tails' chakra as fast as he did. We get a little of Madara v. Hashirama, but after Obito's transformation, his sights set for his apprentice, so he can become the Ten Tails Jinchuriki himself. I have a feeling that in order to defeat Obito, Sasuke will use the Izanagi just as the Infinite Tsukuyomi starts. We learn some important things about Ten Tails. It is made up of nature energy and only senjutsu can harm Obito at this point. We get to see Naruto and Sasuke fight along side each other and see some incite into Minato's regrets, which fires Naruto up even more. Apparently, it's also the day before Naruto's birthday. And like clockwork, just as things start looking up for our heroes, the antagonists get the upper-hand once again. I feel like I've written that in so many of my recent reviews, I feel like a broken record. Obito sends Ten Tails into it's final transformation and traps everyone inside. We get to see Naruto and Minato combine their power and save everyone from getting hit with the biju bombs. It's really beautiful seeing Minato and Naruto interact, I just wish we got to see Kushina in this fight too, so we could have a little family reunion. After saving everyone, Naruto finally goes into his final form (He combines Sage Mode with Biju Mode). Unfortunately, the tree finally sprouts and starts sucking the chakra out of everyone and we learn the origin of chakra and finally learn what the Infintie Tsukuyomi entails. Naruto sees that so many of his comrades died and his feelings get broadcast to everyone that borrowed his chakra and becomes reinvigorated as Sasuke chops down the tree. There was so much fighting in this volume, which I'm not usually a fan of with this series, but you could really feel the despair and helplessness.

I finished reading Naruto Vol.67: An Opening, a fictional book written by Masashi Kishimoto. In this volume, it continues with the middle of the Fourth Shinobi War and as Obito gets the preparations he becomes the Ten Tails jinchuuriki and the resurrected 5 kage including Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke, and Kakashi take on Obito but with his new Jinchuuriki powers he proves too difficult for them. Though it isn't shoching Ten Tails has massive power and being able to focus that power means that person will become almost unstoppable. I really liked this book because it finally showed the duo Naruto and Sasuke fighting together and being able to see Naruto and his resurrected father fighting along-side him too a very touching moment. I recommend this book to anybody who is interested in Naruto or manga in general because this is an awesome manga it has one of the best stories in manga. I hope you like Naruto as much as I did.

640+ chapters in and we're just now introducing an end-game monster that has never been foreshadowed. Guess this is what it's come down to, yeah? Sasuke rejoining, making his claim to be Hokage, then standing around on the sidelines as the older Hokage fight Obito. Second Hokage talks about "my elder brother" and "I invented that jutsu" dozens of times. Naruto goes "me and my daddy can fight". Sage mode becomes incredibly relevant somehow. And Madara brags about how he consulted the Uchiha plot stone and created this plan. Oh and Obito gets hax skills but also loses his previous hax Mangekyo skill in the process for some reason? It all amounts to giant lasers firing back and forth while Kishimoto invents some new lore to throw on top of everything and literally ECLIPSE the rest of the series.

Some really great moments here. Especially between Naruto and his father Minato. Also obito turning into the 10 tails jinchuriki and then getting sage of six paths was awesome. He’s also got a few really great one liners. “This world is already dead” that goes hard. Really enjoyed Naruto turning into a giant kurama kaiju was super cool.

A lot more info dumping and less action, which is fine, just was a lot all at once. Most of the book felt like it was just setting up the infinite tsukuyomi. Still really enjoying the book can’t wait to jump into the next novel.

Obito became the Ten Tails Jinjuriki and can summon the power of the Sage of Six Paths now. Things are looking dour for the Allied Shinobi Force as the divine tree is sucking out their chakra at a rapid pace. As their side is slowly losing hope, only Sasuke and Naruto stands in the way of Obito.

I love how rivals push each other until they surpass their previous selves. That's what Naruto and Sasuke has always done in their own shinobi way to become truly strong.
