How do you hide state secrets when teenage hacktivists have as much quantum computing power as the government? Alexander Hopkins is about to find out on what should have been an uneventful red-eye flight from Russia. Nothing is what it seems in this heart pounding short-story from international best selling author Peter Cawdron.
Combine the latest scientific breakthroughs in bio-data storage, with a possible direction of politics in the near future, and you get the frighteningly realistic scenario told in this story.
This is not really a short story (really short) but more of a proof-of-concept for a future book. There isn't enough detail about the world as a setting nor the political environment to bring the reader in to what the "revolution" is supposed to be battling. And technology is presented as the crux of the issue but none of it is actually explored. There is literally nothing gained by reading this.
Agree with another reviewer that this read more like a proof of concept for a story rather than an actual story. However, the concept was a really cool one.
Technology has advanced and the U.S. government behaves like a police state in this interesting short story by Peter Cawdron. The main character in this story, Alexander Hopkins, is having a really rough day. He meets a beautiful Russian model on his trip home, is confronted and harassed by security personnel after arriving at the airport and then the day goes straight to Hell from there. This story is an action-packed ride. For me, however, this story simply wasn’t long enough. I enjoyed it, but am used to reading longer things from this author and would have liked to see the story developed more. That being said, Peter Cawdron originally set out to write this for a magazine so there may have been a word-count limit of which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the story itself. The premise isn’t that far-fetched, which has got to make you think.
I received a copy of this short story in exchange for an honest review. This was a really quick and enjoyable read. The story centers around Phil who is returning to the USA after a business trip to Russia. His brief encounter with a fellow passenger has life changing consequences. The author gives a brief description of a dystopian world Phil inhabits and the amazing technology that the governments and revolutionists utilize.I did like this story, yet it left me wanting more of the backstory of the society he created.Peter Cawdron is a talented writer and I plan on reading more of his work.
A short read, but a very cool little piece of speculative science fiction. It was a neat short, and I hope Cawdron continues with these little snippet stories. Part spy adventure, part sci-fi, this story had echoes of the matrix and the Bourne series while remaining fresh and different. Another must-read from Cawdron. Check this one out!
More like a 3.5. It was an interesting short story, fast paced & leaves you with some things to think about. I think that's essentially what a short story should do, so I liked it a lot for that. But yeah it did feel too short! Can't just throw the last bit in there and say the end! But still, it was an interesting read.
What a fantastic story. With nonstop action it can't be beat. And, you know what's really scary is the fact that the events depicted in this story are not that far ahead of the reality of the present!
