Bride for A Day

Rate this book
Damsel in distress…

Cassie O’Malley qualified for sure. She was on the run with a sheriff coming right at her and a handsome farmer close enough that she could touch him. She only wanted the sexy farmer’s help for a few minutes but that damned sheriff insisted on taking them to the court house himself.

Get married…

Ted Wellman didn’t go to town to get hitched but that sweet girl with her big green eyes looked desperate when she asked him to help her. Then suddenly he was married to the girl and he knew nothing about her.

Rather than rushing to help him get rid of his bride for a day, his crazy family seemed determined to keep him and Cassie together. What were they thinking? That there was a chance of thawing Ted’s heart?

If you liked Carolyn Brown’s Three Magic Words series: A Forever Thing, In Shining Whatever and Life After Wife or her stand alone romance books, A Falling Star, Lily’s White Lace or The PMS Club you'll be sure to love Bride for a Day.

Hi! I'm twenty five years old and movie star gorgeous. The camera added thirty plus years and a few wrinkles. Can't trust those cameras or mirrors either. Along with bathroom scales they are notorious liars! Honestly, I am the mother of three fantastic grown children who've made me laugh and given me more story ideas than I could ever write. My husband, Charles, is my strongest supporter and my best friend. He's even willing to eat fast food and help with the laundry while I finish one more chapter! Life is good and I am blessed!

Reading has been a passion since I was five years old and figured out those were words on book pages. As soon as my chubby little fingers found they could put words on a Big Chief tablet with a fat pencil, I was on my way. Writing joined reading in my list of passions. I will read anything from the back of the Cheerio's box to Faulkner and love every bit of it. In addition to reading I enjoy cooking, my family and the ocean. I love the Florida beaches. Listening to the ocean waves puts my writing brain into high gear.

I love writing romance because it's about emotions and relationships. Human nature hasn't changed a bit since Eve coveted the fruit in the Garden of Eden. Settings change. Plots change. Names change. Times change. But love is love and men and women have been falling in and out of it forever. Romance is about emotions: love, hate, anger, laughter... all of it. If I can make you laugh until your sides ache or grab a tissue then I've touched your emotions and accomplished what every writer sets out to do.

I got serious about writing when my third child was born and had her days and nights mixed up. I had to stay up all night anyway and it was very quiet so I invested in a spiral back notebook and sharpened a few pencils. The story that emerged has never sold but it's brought in enough rejection slips to put the Redwood Forest on the endangered list. In 1997 Kensington bought two books for their Precious Gems line. Two years and six books later the line died with only four of those books seeing publication. But by then Avalon had bought a book and another, and another. Ten years later the list has grown to thirty nine. Last year Sourcebooks bought the Lucky Series which is in the bookstores now. They've also bought The Honky Tonk Series which will debut with I LOVE THIS BAR in June and will be followed by HELL, YEAH, MY GIVE A DAMN'S BUSTED, and HONKY TONK CHRISTMAS.

Folks ask me where I get my ideas. Three kids, fifteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Note: I was a very young grandmother! Life is a zoo around here when they all come home. In one Sunday afternoon there's enough ideas to keep me writing for years and years. Seriously, ideas pop up at the craziest times. When one sinks its roots into my mind, I have no choice but to write the story. And while I'm writing the characters peek over my shoulder and make sure I'm telling it right and not exaggerating too much. Pesky little devils, they are!

I have a wonderful agent, Erin Niumata, who continues to work magic and sell my work. I'm very lucky to have her and my editors who continue to believe in me.

Happy reading!

EXCERPT: She had said that she didn't want to ever get married, but Ted wondered if that was the truth. Had she envisioned herself in a church, standing beside a man who'd swept her off her feet, who had promised to give her the sun, the moon and all the stars? Did she wish she was wearing a white satin gown, not a faded red sweatshirt, well-worn sneakers and bleached-out jeans?

'Do you?' Sam asked.

'I do,' she whispered.

ABOUT 'BRIDE FOR A DAY': Cassie O'Malley is a woman on the run when she when gets tangled up with a suspicious local sheriff and, on the spur of the moment, turns to a handsome stranger to get herself out of a tight spot.

Ted Wellman didn't go to town to get hitched but that sweet girl with her big green eyes looked desperate. Suddenly he finds himself married to a stranger. No problem, his uncle's a lawyer and everybody knows he's in no emotional condition to settle down, not since the death of his brother put him on emotional lock down.

Much to his surprise, instead of helping get out of it, Ted's crazy family seemed determined to keep him and Cassie together. What could they be thinking? That there is a chance of finally thawing Ted's frozen heart?

MY THOUGHTS: This was a quick fun read with endearing, if a little prickly at times, characters that I just wanted to have a HEA. And, of course, that's what Carolyn Brown is so good at, although she does love to throw in the odd complication along the way.

I read Bride For a Day in one sitting, unable to tear myself away from learning the fate of Ted and Cassie. Loved the big, extended family and the way they all pull together at the first sign of trouble.

Written with Brown's trademark warmth and wit, this is an updated rewrite of the 1997 title Love is the Answer.

This is a Romance. This book is all about a young lady that is on the ran, Cassie and Ted a young country boy that is trying to move on after his twin brother died. Ted married Cassie to save her, but this book is more about them saving each other. I love the story line/plot, and the characters are so much fun. I loved the characters in this book, and the family was everything. This book was easy to read and was a fast read. I did not want to put this book down, and I also did not want this book to end. I did find the beginning a little bit confusing. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Sourcebooks Casablanca) or author (Carolyn Brown) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

Such a charming Southern story! it makes me want to get some fresh iced tea and read on the balcony!

Although it was a good story, there were instances when everything went too smoothly and it didn't quite feel realistic. The plot might have been more fascinating with a little more conflict.

Young adult or new adult readers may find it more appealing because the primary protagonists are younger than those in other contemporary romances. But the small town charm, close knit family, and distinctive humor are all present.

There were a few things that I believed were unresolved. Whereas the pace of the story felt a little hurried and I thought the protagonists were a little too young for the choices they made, it was nonetheless a short, tidy, and enjoyable tale.

Such a sweet Southern charm read; it makes me want to grab a cool sweet tea and sit on the porch with another book!

A young girl on the run from an evil foster parent who has sold her to a sex ring, gets off a bus at a diner and, seeing the local sheriff, panics and asks the first guy she meets to pretend they know each other. The shy cowboy is verbose under pressure and the two strangers find themselves married before the day is out.

Readers will love the small town Texas setting and the underlying theme of overcoming tragedy, facing our fears, the love of a family, and the suggestion of fate. The characters are wonderful (with the exception of Cecil), the Wellman extended family will warm your heart, the instant chemistry will make your heart flutter and the healing of bruised hearts will restore your faith in humanity. I'd love to spend time with the Wellman family as they seem like such a supportive group of people. I especially loved that they weren't judgmental and that their son's happiness was most important. They trusted his judgment over the appearance of what he'd done and the worry about what others would think.

It’s predictable. It’s a quick, light read. It’s sappy in parts. It stretches the concept of plausibility. BUT… it’s a great beach read focusing on trust, healing, fresh starts and it ends happily ever after. Sometimes you just need a light, fluffy, saccharine-laced read.

Previously published as Love Is The Answer under the pseudonym Abby Gray.

I was gifted this advance copy by Carolyn Brown, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

This book is full of sweet southern charm.

Cassie is on the run from the man you raised her the past few years, Cecil, when she found out he sold her to a sex trafficking ring. Now Cecil has the police looking for her claiming she stole from him and is mentally unstable. When she gets cornered by the police she turns to a young man in a diner. Pretending to be with him. When Ted realizes what is going on he plays along with the scheme. One thing leads to another and by the end of the day Ted and Cassie are married. While they wait to get an annulment Cassie stays with Ted and his family. Cassie starts to put down roots as she and Ted grow closer.

I loved this book. It was so full of sweetness that it just made my heart melt. Some of Ted and Cassie's dialogue was just so funny I was grinning ear to ear. The southern accent is so thick that I can hear it in my head. I love that family and all the major characters were great. I really enjoyed this book and I love a HEA.

So here is the issue. There was a lot of build-up in the beginning with both the romance and with Cecil. Both of which I thought peaked anti-climactically. I was so excited and then before I really even realized what had happened, it was over. Kind of disappointing. All the good stuff just comes and goes so fast, like it wasn't a huge point in the storyline. Honestly, I just felt a bit cheated out of the 'ooh, ahh' moments.

This book seems to be geared toward the New Adult audience. But I would be comfortable with a teenager reading this as well. I'd say 15+
Content Warnings:
The suggestion of sex but no descriptions at all, 'parental' abuse: again mentioned but no detail.

This is a rerelease of one of the author's books that she wrote under another penname in 1997 called Love is the Answer. It has been updated to today's times but the sweet southern romance checked several boxes including a little danger for Cassie.

Cassie has been orphaned while still a minor and was taken in by a couple. He is a scumbag but his wife is nice yet dying of cancer. Once Cassie is free of her obligation she strikes out on her own primarily because he has sold her to sex traffickers. I appreciated the little bit of the book that delved into this horrible world and was glad that Cassie was able to leave before any of that came to fruition.

Ted is living in his own sort of hell after his twin brother was killed in a car accident. He has never let himself move past that event until now. Even his own family couldn't budge him in moving on with his life.

I thought the storyline was cute and found it comical that they had to get married to avoid Cassie being found out since there was an APB out for her saying she had mental issues. Shows you what sort of dirtbag she was living with at the time. I think Ted taking care of Cassie was what brought him out of his funk. However, Cassie has her own ideas and doesn't need Ted to take care of her, but she does in a way. They are both young (20 and 21 I believe) and there is so much more to life than what they know. Thankfully, Ted's family takes her in as their own and treats her well. I think Cassie fell for the family before Ted and I can't blame her considering the last few years. They both have some growing up to do and what safer place than with each other.

The story isn't long but it is as sweet as sweet tea and was a quick read.

We give this book 4 paws up.

Carolyn Brown writes country charm and cowboy romance like few others. It was with utter fascination that I discovered she was reissuing her very first published books that she wrote as Abby Gray. Eager to check out one of her first efforts, I dove into this engaging small town romance.

Cassie O’Malley is a young woman, reared in the foster system and running away from her loser guardian who was attempting to sell her to human traffickers. When he couldn’t get her back, he sicced the law on her by reporting her as a thief. Naturally, she is scared and gets jittery when she gets off the bus in a small town and encounters the local sheriff in the diner. She latches onto a young cowboy sitting nearby to pretend their together and astoundingly, he plays along even to a visit to the courthouse to give her a sort term marriage to protect her. Cassie has never encountered such a place and finds herself fitting in for the first time in her life with a family and a friendly town. Ted is pretty great, too. Too bad it’s temporary, or is it?
Ted Wellman is young, but he is certain that a relationship and marriage is not in the cards for him since he is convinced that his heart is out of reach after his brother died. But, he’s not beyond playing the cowboy version of Sir Galahad to a scared young woman. He’s not worried about putting a ring on it because his uncle is a lawyer and will get it annulled when the time comes. However, his big quirky family of Wellmans have other ideas when they catch sight of Cassie and, if he’s honest, he’s not that eager to end it, either.

Bride for a Day front loads most of the excitement in that all the big moments do seem to happen in the first third of the book. In fact, some issues just seem to fade away. Then it settles into that easy, gently-paced country life and slow burn loving that I’m used to from the author’s books. It was a forgone conclusion where things would end up and I was happy to go along with it. Cassie, Ted, his fun family and the town were easily lovable and I was having fun seeing his family determine Cassie was a good thing for Ted and do their darnedest to make it happen. Ted just had to acknowledge that his grief and loss from the past really didn’t stop him from loving a good woman and Cassie had to do a clean out of her past, too.

So, easy-going and light entertainment in this cowboy romance. Those who don’t mind the less dramatic and gentle-pacing of a country small town setting and characters should definitely slip this one into the reading pile.

I rec’d an eARC through NetGalley to read in exchange for an honest review.

This was a very charming story. Although I think the main characters, Ted and Cassie, are too young, and sometimes it bothered me a bit about the big life decisions they were making, so that kind of got in the way of me enjoying the book fully.

I liked Ted's big family and how willing they were to help a stranger in need. I also liked Cassie's personality and how she wasn't passive about everything that was happening, that she had strong opinions about her life and how she wanted to live it.

But it was a nice story, a bit too smooth at times, because there were moments when everything went too well and it didn't exactly feel real. A bit more conflict would have made the story more interesting.

Except, sometimes, it's just what you need to read: a romance with the reassurance that life works out sometimes, and that even though some problems seem way too big, there are nice people out there who will help you out. So, if that's what you're looking for, Bride for a Day might be perfect for you.

I usually do a quick look up before I choose a book, but I picked up this book on a whim. The cover and book synopsis intrigued me.... I tried so hard to keep pushing through this book, but it was so hard. The idea seems good, but it just was not executed or written well.

3.5 stars rounded up. When Cassie O'Malley's mother passed away, she moved in with her friend and co-worker Deana. Things went well for a couple of years, but when Deana got sick, her husband guilted Cassie into quitting school and taking care of her. When Deana died, he turned his eyes to Cassie. She rebuffed him and he sold her to a sex-trafficking ring (this was the part where I rolled my eyes). Cassie packs a backpack, grabs her grandma's wedding ring set and runs. He reports her to police as a runaway, thief, and feeble minded. When a local sheriff spots her at a restaurant in a smalltown, she latches onto Ted Wellman who pretends to be her fiance. They are forced into a marriage to protect her and they head to his home. Will this fake romance turn into a real one.

I enjoy Carolyn Brown's books for a light, clean read and this one fit that bill, but it had some issues. I wanted Cassie to be able to follow her dreams. Everything had gone wrong in her life and she needed someone kind to show her things aren't all hardship. The Wellman family was a bit too perfect. They had suffered through the loss of a son, Ted's twin, and he was suffering from severe survivor's guilt. Cassie's sass, spunk and caring brought him out of that. Of course, Deana's husband shows up and the Wellman family dispatch him quickly. This is a bit too perfect with everything working out easily for Cassie, but it was a quick, happily ever after story.

Wow, purely phenomenal. This is my first time reading this creative and quite talented author's book, and I thought it was very captivating and emotional intriguing. I love her writing techniques and her descriptive characters reference.

I admired Cassie strength and courage to fight to survive and find true love and happiness with Ted. It was so wonderful that she received so much unconditional positive reinforcement, encouragement, and support from his family.

Highly recommend

This was a sweet, clean romance with likable characters. It is a revamp of the 1998 book Love is the Answer that the author wrote under the name Abby Gray for the Precious Gems line. The main characters are younger than those found in more modern romances, perhaps increasing its appeal for the young adult or new adult audience. That did not diminish my enjoyment of the story. While the characters do not have the same depth as those in the author's more recent works, the signature humor, close family, and small-town are all there.

Cassie is just a few months shy of twenty-one when her guardian dies, leaving her at the mercy of the woman's husband. She knows she must get out when she finds out that he's sold her to a sex ring. If she can find a place to lay low for a few months, she can claim her inheritance. So, she takes what little money she has and hops on a bus headed toward Oklahoma. When she gets off the bus in a small Texas town for a break, she discovers the town sheriff is looking for her. Panicking, she approaches the young man sitting alone in the diner and asks for his help. She's relieved when he plays along but never anticipated the turn it takes.

Ted, a usually shy and introverted guy, was stunned when Cassie approached him and asked for his help. Asking himself what his twin brother would do, Ted immediately steps up to the plate and confirms they are a couple. But his nerves get the best of him, and he embellishes the story, claiming they are eloping. In either a fit of romanticism or suspicion, the sheriff decides to help them - all the way to the town Justice of the Peace. The next thing Ted and Cassie know, they are married and gifted a night at the local motel for their "honeymoon."

The book immediately drew me in with this scenario. I liked Cassie's quick thinking, both for her escape and her encounter with the sheriff. She got fortunate with her choice of an accomplice. Ted is a good guy but still suffering grief over the death of his twin brother four years earlier. He imagines John's response to the situation and uses that as his guide. I enjoyed watching him get into the deception and laughed out loud at some of his commentaries as he dragged Cassie along. There were a couple of hold-your-breath moments when I thought the cat would be out of the bag.

There was one scene of Cassie freaking out because she realized she hadn't needed the help, but it was too late to do anything about it. I liked how Ted was calm, reassuring Cassie that his uncle, a lawyer, would process an annulment for them right away. The next day they head back to Oklahoma and Ted's family home. Cassie is afraid of their reaction and is stunned when she's warmly welcomed. I liked that she and Ted are honest with the family about why they are married, which goes a long way toward their acceptance of her. It was fun to see them find ways to make her welcome and comfortable staying for a while.

I liked watching the relationship between Ted and Cassie develop. They connected right away and found it easy to talk to each other. Cassie has a significant impact on Ted. His grief for his brother has been so overpowering that he closed himself off to all emotion and has just gone through the motions of living. Being around Cassie stirs up feelings he's buried, and Ted finds himself falling for her. Though Cassie has been isolated for several years, she hasn't lost her sense of self. She knows what she wants out of her life and isn't afraid to go after it. I liked watching them grow closer, talk about their dreams, and acknowledge the attraction building between them. There was no angst-driven black moment, just a steady realization that they belonged together. I liked Ted's big moment and the surprise he had for Cassie.

Ted's grief over his brother John's death, was a big part of this book. Much of it was tied up in his guilty feelings, thinking he should have been able to prevent it from happening. John was never far from his mind, and there were many times when he heard John's voice in his head, giving advice or brotherly commentary. From the moment Cassie appeared, the walls around his feelings began to crumble, and the grief started to fade. I loved the scene in their childhood bedroom.

There were a couple of things I thought were left hanging. Cassie's guardian made a brief appearance, and I loved how Ted and his father and uncle handled him. However, I would have enjoyed a mention of whether their proposed actions were effective. Other than brief mentions, nothing more was said about Cassie's inheritance, despite the importance of hiding out until her birthday.

This was a sweet small-town romance that was a quick read. Cassie O’Malley is running from a bad situation and when the bus she is on stops in a tiny town, she looks for the first person she can find to help her out of a bad situation and that person happens to be Ted Wellman. How could she know that to save herself she would end up marrying a stranger and having him take her to live with his family in a small Oklahoma town. That they would embrace her and give her something that she has not had since her mother passed away. Family. Ted assured Cassie that it would only be for a day and that his uncle who was a lawyer would get the marriage annulled and she could go on her way, but like all things that were happening in Cassie’s life, it got complicated. What neither of them knew was that they were giving each other time to come to terms with something from their past. Can they be together or will they go their separate ways and will Cassie only be A Bride for Day.

I loved this story. It warmed my heart reading it. Gives you hope that life can really be this easy even though there are complications in life. Carolyn Brown does it best when she takes us to small towns and gives us characters that make us feel like we can be one of the family or a good friend, who can sit at the table and have a good gossip or hold someone’s hand when times are tough. I loved Cassie, she was sweet and sassy and she was stronger than she knew. She was going to make her own decisions about her future and Ted was a man with a good heart, who was loyal and loving even though he had a loss he never thought he would be able to get over. With each other's help, they both could see a brighter future. You will have a good feeling and a smile when you finish this book.

I always look forward to Carolyn Brown’s books.

Cassie O'Malley is running away. She had to pawn her grandmother's wedding rings to have enough money for a bus ticket. Cassie's life fell apart when her deceased mother's friend Deana, who had agreed to be her guardian, also dies. Deana's husband has devious plans for Cassie and Cassie isn't sticking around to accommodate him. When Cassie saw the sheriff looking for her at the spot where the bus stopped for a break she panicked. Luckily for Cassie her panic drew her to a cowboy enjoying a meal in a booth in the cafe. Fortunately Ted Wellman goes along with being with Cassie when the sheriff approaches to question them. Then... oh my goodness... Ted blurts out that they plan to get married and the next thing they know the sheriff is escorting them to the Justice of the Peace's office and getting married. Now what?

Ted Wellman is a lost soul. He's still mourning the loss of his twin brother John four years ago. When the pretty lady sat down in his booth in the cafe and begged him to help her Ted couldn't say no. After all Ted had been going along making decisions based on WWJD, normally standing for What Would Jesus Do. In Ted's case that stood for What Would John Do and John wouldn't hesitate to help. From there Ted needed to think of what to tell his family when he got home with his surprise bride. What happens next is a super story to read.

This is a wonderful Women's Fiction story. Author Carolyn Brown grabs your attention and your heart with Cassie's and Ted's story. They have a lot going against them. They are virtual strangers. Yet they have a lot going for them as they both are kind and caring people and Ted's family is good support to them both. I really enjoyed this story. Then again I always enjoy Carolyn Brown's stories.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

Sweet Meet By Chance Contemporary
Cassie is a survivor. After surviving her parents death, she's devastated when her foster mom dies and she's left alone with her creepy husband.
She pawns her grandmother's rings and goes on the run, barely escaping the police, who have been informed she was a mentally unstable minor. Her escape with the help of Ted is a miracle. A miracle for both of them.
Together they learn that each is the other's salvation and the planned annulment was never meant to be.
A romance with a nasty villain, wonderful supporting family and friends and a couple that complement each other. I read the original when it was released and the revamp was refreshed enough to make it worth a second read.
I received an ARC copy gratis from Net Galley and offer my opinion in the same spirit

If you've read Carolyn Brown books before then you know what to expect. Her books tend to follow the same formula and predictability yet, they are still always a quick enjoyable read. I never start one of her books expecting it to be fantastic but most times I am pleasantly surprised.

This was probably my least favorite. I really didn't care for or connect with any of the characters. Would I recommend it? Probably if you are looking for a quick romance or a beach read, but with the caveat of it being just an okay read - nothing special.

Thank you #netgalley and #sourcebookscasablanca

Bride for a Day was a great read as I started it but the further into the story, I got it just lost something for me.
I wanted to feel the connection between Cassie and Ted but it for me did not happen. It was a sweet romance to a certain degree. I liked the small town for the setting of the book.
I know there are a lot of small-town romance story fans out there that will absolutely love this one but for it me it was a way to pass some time.
Thank you NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca for the copy of Bride for a Day. This is my personal review.

Author Carolyn Brown's magnificent writing talent continues to shine in the heartwarming novel, Bride For A Day! The last thing Ted Wellman expects, as he is about to order his lunch, is the beautiful red haired stranger to ask for his help. As seventeen year old Cassie O'Malley spots the two police officers, as she emerges from the restroom, she could already picture herself being taken back to her guardian and cousin Cecil Gorman. That was the last place she wanted to be. When she sees Ted sitting alone in the diner's booth, Cassie decides to take a chance. Acting like she was his girlfriend, she begs him not to give her away. Little does he know that he would soon be on his way to the justice of the peace. Having his emotions shut down for seven years after a tragic accident. Ted is unprepared for the feelings this little spitfire has awakened. Promising the newlyweds an annulment in six months, Ted's lawyer Uncle is scheming with the rest of the family to keep Cassie around. Cassie and Ted heal each others hearts as the months go by but will it all be for nothing? Will Cassie be able to leave like she had already planned, or will she take a leap of faith? This is such a beautiful story that will make you believe in miracles! I highly recommend this "feel good" novel!

The story
Cassie meets Ted at a bus stop while we is running away from an abusive man Cecil, the husband of her late mother’s friend Deana who has now also passed away. She asks Ted to act as if he knows her when she spots the sheriff and believes Cecil has sent them to arrest her. Ted makes up a story and soon Cassie and Ted are getting married. His wealthy family welcomes her with open arms but can they make things work for real?

My thoughts
I felt like I was reading the equivalent of an 80’s episode of the Dallas TV programme. A large Texan family living in a family compound that all gather together for breakfast daily. Cassie is 20 and penniless. Ted is 21 and already pretty well settled. Meddling family members, no nastiness, but they are know each other’s business before it even happens 🙈 Some of Carolyn Brown’s books have been pretty sweet while others are a bit of a miss for me. Sadly this feels like one of the latter.

This book has been released several times. Originally published in 1997 under the title, Love is the Answer in 2014 under this title. Carolyn Brown is a go to author when you want a good old fashioned love story with strong male hero, a feisty woman with problems and a strong supporting cast. Cassie is on the run from her abusive ex-brother in law when she lands in the Arms of Ted who marries her to help protect her. She brings light into his life as he is still mourning and feeling guilty over the death of his twin brother. A good story that is fairly predictable. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This was dopey. 20 year old woman runs away from a man who has sold her to a sex trafficking organization and doesn't think the police or anyone will help her. She has skills to get a job and she's one year away from having access to a trust fund. The man she ran away from tries to convince people that she's "simple" and needs supervision and care. He's also accusing her of stealing two plain gold wedding rings worth $200. The man she ran away from didn't tie her up or lock her up or do anything to keep her from running away. He also told her that he'd sold her to a sex trafficking ring!? There's a lifetime of stupid in just this part of the set up. It only gets a bit more dumb with the introduction of the hero who tells the sheriff who's looking for her that she and he are getting married that day. The sheriff has a description of the woman but no picture. Now granted, she's 6 feet tall and red-haired so its a pretty good description but the best lie the hero can come up with to get her away from the sheriff is that they're getting married? The woman has ID that doesn't match the name of the woman the sheriff is looking for but she doesn't remember she has it?!? I just can't even.

This was a cute Southern romance.

I don’t think the cover really fit with the book. I was constantly struggling to understand what year it was, then I realized this was a re-release of her 1997 book which explains that.

The story was interesting. Similar to other reviews, I’d prefer more showing and less telling.

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

Such an easy relaxing read which is very quick to read. I loved the easy romance aspect without too many details.
A bit cliche but don't we all live for a cliche love story

The third person narrator sometimes works for me and I enjoy it! Not for this book though. For some reason, there was a disconnect between me and the characters. I also felt like dialogue for major events were skipped over completely! It was hard for me to stay grounded in this book.

Same old...

I feel like I've read this book 20 times with different titles same author. Very shallow. Ended at 72%. Disappointed.

I really wanted to like this book but sadly it was just a little flat for me; I didn't really like the 2 main characters & the whole storyline seemed a bit far fetched

not good. i never go into these ‘clearance, divorcee, white mother’ romances with high expectations and usually they catch me by surprise and i end up LOVING them. this one was not good. extremely fast paced. no real chemistry between the two mc’s. story development: 0/10 character development: 0/10 if i could give this book a 0 stars, i would. don’t recommend. the one part i DID like was how ted showed his affection. THE KISSING OF HER KNUCKLES? HER EYELIDS? HER FOREHEAD? i love it. that’s the ONLY thing i love.
