This is a bit difficult to rate. On one hand, there’s nothing wrong with the story as such. On the other, it’s a complete rip-off of The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter by Yatsuki Wakatsu, starting with the premise.

An overworked office worker, Mitsuki, comes to a help of a young girl and they both get transported to another world. The girl, Maria, is a God’s Envoy whose job it is to purge the world of miasma threatening it. She’s naturally adapted with the world’s magic, whereas Mitsuki has no mana. He can’t even understand the language, so a handsome knight, Volk, gives him his blood and he suddenly adapts. But it leads to trouble later when Mitsuki’s body only accepts Volk’s mana. The two have to spend a lot of time together, and in medical emergencies to have sex even. All like in The Bean Counter, up to how some scenes are drawn.

The similarities don’t end there. Mitsuki can’t be idle, but instead of taking over the royal treasury like Kondou in The Bean Counter, he starts to help a researcher of herbal medicine. Instead of becoming addicted to herbal potions, he creates them himself. Volk worries about him and preaches to him constantly about healthy work balance. And like in The Bean Counter, the young knight develops feelings for the older office worker who doesn’t understand it at all.

The only unique feature of this story is the beastfolk. There are people who have animal features like ears and tails. Some can even change completely to an animal form. And Mitsuki really loves fluffy animals. So he’s overjoyed when one morning he wakes up next to a fluffy wolf. Of course, the wolf turns out to be Volk, who uses the promise of cuteness to lure Mitsuki into moving in with him.

Despite the obvious similarities, this wasn’t as feel-good a story as The Bean Counter. Mitsuki was rather cynical and not as likeable as Kondou. Side characters where fairly similar, with similar roles in Mitsuki’s life, like the cheery coworker and enthusiastic mage. For a mature BL manga, the spice was almost nonexistent, but there’s some in the end. I’m not sure I’ll read more. Art was good.

If you like The Titan’s Bride, I think you’ll enjoy this one. The only real difference in tropes though is that this doesn’t have a size difference, it has an age gap.

!! GUSHING INCOMING !!

It's true what everyone says: this does basically have the exact same story as "The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter". But you want to know something crazy?? I hated Bean Counter. Like, I hated everything about it.
But this? My Younger Knight? THIS WAS AMAZING. I find that so wild that something with virtually the same exact story as the manga I really disliked can FEEL so different and add so many points of charm to a story I was already somewhat expecting.

I found the main character of this manga, Mitsuki, to be so much more charming and understandable than Kondou from Bean Counter. His reactions were funny and silly and felt really human. Just as well, our love interest, Volk, gets a lot more development a lot faster than the love interest in Bean Counter. He's overbearing and overprotective and their reasons for having a close proximity to each other actually make a lot of sense. Just as well, the magic system in this is actually explained a lot better and in a more understandable manner than the one in Bean Counter, in my opinion. Instead of only using the magic as an excuse for them to have sex like in Bean Counter, the two characters have to have a close proximity in non-sexual ways too (for magical health reasons), which includes having lunch together or innocuously touching. It gives our love interests time to spend around each other and grow their relationship.
I love that and it actually makes the sexy moments feel a lot more earned. I can also see how Volk would quickly fall in love with sort of a joe-schmoe like our protagonist Mitsuki, because he's a wolf beastfolk and feels very protective and responsible over him and his wellbeing. That's just good, understandable writing, in my opinion.

Also, there is another layer of interest in this manga with the beastfolk discrimination aspect. It adds texture to the world we've been transported to and, too, adds to Mitsuki and Volk's chemistry, since Volk sees that Mitsuki the other-worlder is without any prejudice, and in fact really loves him in his wolf form right away. THIS WAS JUST SO DAMN CUTE. I already love interspecies/shape-shifting romances and stuff, but this was a massive charm point for me over Bean Counter, and also helped the world of Younger Knight feel more unique and less of a stock/generic fantasy world (which is how I felt about the world of Bean Counter).

I also just really liked this over Bean Counter because I felt like Bean Counter's protagonist was very antagonizing and unlikable, whereas Mitsuki here IS kind of like a baby -- he genuinely doesn't know what he's doing in this new world but he's trying to do right by himself, and by the girl he came with, Maria. I appreciate the fact that he's there for Maria and wants to help her get back, even though he seems comfortable already living in this other world, because he's already carved out a community for himself. Mitsuki is snarky and dryly humorous, and can be a little off-color by this world's standards (loving to pet beastfolk ears when that's kind of implied to be offensive to them, for example), but he's so lovable, and I want to see him succeed. He feels like a real guy and I really enjoy him.

As a side note too, I love every single side character in this. Sil, Grasse, Larimar, Maria, I REALLY loved every single one of their character designs and personalities. Especially Sil, I thought he was really charming and entertaining to watch, and I totally love his character design!!

Side note-side note, I also want to praise the translation team for this manga. I think their translation really helped Mitsuki feel like a real guy I could know IRL. I laughed out loud when he saw Volk in his wolf form and just said "He's a big boy." That really felt like a real-life reaction and I super enjoyed it XD There are several other examples but that wording was just on point.

Anyways, this is a rare moment for me because I almost never like isekai manga. But this scratched every itch just right for me. I see that volume 2 came out just a couple days ago at time of writing this review so I went ahead and ordered it!! I can't wait to see what happens next!!

As others have mentioned this feels almost like a copy paste of the bean counter manga but I would say it has a different feel. This one is funnier and has some very honest feelings Our high school girl has some very big feelings about being forced into the position she is and she feels less adversary. More like there potential for them to trust and rely on one another. It is a little spicer also. But I like his co workers and even though he is still kind of a work a holic he is doing something that feels more like a passion not just a job.

I know isekai has a set of pretty common tropes, but it's still hard to get past the fact that this feels like a pretty giant rip-off of The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter .

So much of the setup is the same. An overworked Japanese salaryman in his 30s is walking home from work when he sees a girl being sucked into the street and calling out for help. When he grabs hold of her, he's dragged down with her, into another world where she's the summoned saint, called to deal with the miasma plaguing the land, and he's a useless and unexpected tagalong.

There's a handsome and grumpy-looking (vice-) captain of the knights, who corners the otherworlder on his first day heading to his new job, asking him in irritated confusion why he's working when the kingdom has agreed to pay all of his living expenses. But the otherworlder has a sense of duty and can't simply sponge off the kingdom without earning his keep!

It also turns out that the otherworlder has no resistance to the magic particles in the air, so he gets horribly ill from things like healing spells, and the only one who can build up his resistance and also heal him is the hot (vice-) captain, who has sex with him because bodily fluids are a faster way to build up his resistance in emergency situations.

After that, the (vice-) captain devotes himself to dragging the otherworlder away from his work, ensuring he takes meal breaks and eats enough food, particularly meat for stamina and certain vegetables that will build up his magicule resistance better. In the process, while the otherworlder just kind of goes along with it, the (vice-) captain seems to be getting more and more attached, and even jealous of the attention others are paying him.

There's also a long-haired, carefree doctor who's aware of the situation between them; a brilliant but eccentric head of the magic department; and a cheery subordinate at the otherworlder's work who gets dragged into awkward lunches with him and the (vice-) captain.

Meanwhile, there are conversations about potentially being able to send the saint and the tagalong back home, although some of those in charge aren't too excited about it. And the prince is determined to marry the saint and is likely to be the most opposed to this plan.

Am I describing this book or Bean Counter? Yeah. You see what I mean.

There are some differences, of course, but it was difficult to pull myself out of comparison mode, particularly when Bean Counter had been such a favorite. (I got a little disappointed as it went on, since the romantic development got less space than I was expecting, but the overall plot stayed pretty interesting.)

This, I think, wraps up in just two volumes, which makes it significantly shorter and explains why the plot is so fast-paced. And, honestly, a little bit sloppy. The author's note talks about how this was their first time writing a fantasy story, and they struggled to come up with ideas, etc. (It's easy when you just pull your ideas from someone else's writing...) It ended up feeling pretty cobbled-together, but there are things I like about it.

The biggest difference is that this world has beastfolk, who are seen as a sort of second tier of society, at least within the castle. The beastfolk who work in or around the castle grounds typically hide their beast features (ears, tails), although I'm not entirely sure why, because it doesn't seem like it's actually a secret. The cheery assistant, for example, is a rabbit beastfolk, and his ears tend to pop out when he gets excited or scared.

More importantly, the vice-captain, Volk, can transform into a full wolf-form, which is a much rarer trait that only the ancient line of beastfolk can do. Except...he's also royalty? Second in line for the throne, now that Mitsuki-the-otherworlder's healing-garden boss has revoked his claim, as the current king's younger brother. This means the prince sees Volk as a threat, especially now that he's formed an attachment to the otherworlder.

So I guess the prince is a villain in this one? Except his people don't actually attack Mitsuki...they call out to him, and Mitsuki trips and hits his head all on his own, and they take him somewhere to watch over him to be sure he's okay, but Volk gets upset, transforms into a wolf to track him, and starts up a whole angry to-do over the situation.

My biggest question is how Volk can be from an ancient line of beastfolk and royalty, when the whole worldbuilding setup is about nobles looking down on beastfolk as very unlike them? It also sounds like the entire second knights' platoon is made up of beastfolk. So...they're not uncommon. They actually have pretty high status in the castle hierarchy.

In general, I just don't really get the worldbuilding or where the story is trying to go.

The saint is trying to spearhead the mission to get herself sent back home, because she misses her school and friends and is not interested in the prince, whom she sees as trying to marry her just for her status. That would help to cement his path to the throne.

And there's a whole subplot about how the summoning was done secretly by the priests (without the mages' knowledge or help somehow...), with it being portrayed to the public as a spontaneous act of god.

So it's kind of interesting? But also kind of chaotic, and it's hard to tell how it can have a satisfying wrapup in another volume.

I did find it funny how Volk is using his soft, cuddly wolf form as a way to bribe Mitsuki into spending more time with him. Can't say I'm entirely feeling the romance at this point, but Mitsuki has been commenting on Volk's handsome face since the moment he saw him, so it seems like there'll be less resistance to...building up his magic resistance with more physical contact...

Still can't quite figure out if I actually liked this story, but I do appreciate getting more BL isekai.

As many have pointed out, there are a lot of similarities to Bean Counter:
Travelling with the girl to the other world
Being affected by mana when she isn't
Finding a job immediately, though that's more a character trait common to the working man thing.
However, I find the MC a little more likeable than our dear Bean Counter (I actually adore him but he's a grump) and the captain turns into a wolf, he also communicated better.
The addition of beastfolk was interesting.
I do want to read more even with the similarities

Im a little torn with this one because while I really enjoyed this volume, the art, and the characters...the plot was WAY too similar to The Other Worlds Books Depend on the Bean Counter. It almost felt like the only difference was the addition of beast folk. But if you like Bean Counter then I'm sure you'll enjoy this one too. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣 I liked it enough to want to continue it even with the many similarities.

Even though this is a rip-off of a certain bean counting manga, I still did really enjoy this one. I really liked seeing that despite the main plot of Mitsuki navigating this new world and his dynamic with Volk, he also managed to strike a good friendship with the young girl he attempted to save and some other side characters. Overall, I really like how well-developed this story is just within this first volume and I’m curious to see how things wrap up in the next and final volume.

Perhaps not the best thing to read right after “Bean Counter” it hits some of the exact same beats; which I assume are common for the isekai genre, which I haven’t read till now.

Still, has its own charm that makes it enjoyable

This is a bit of a pastiche, taking pieces from The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter and The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent, but still quite fun.

La única razón de mi puntuación es que esto es una copia -demasiado obvia- de The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter.

Hay escenas que son exactamente iguales a The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter

Do you like The other world’s books depend on the bean counter? Or have you watched The Saint’s magic is omnipotent? Well if you don’t mind cookie cutter stories because you are trash for this type of Isekai (like I am) then you’ll probably love this one too but be warned that there REALLY isn’t much in volume 1 that stands out as unique compared to the previous two series. Perhaps the beast-men and shifting to full animal form storyline but that’s not unique in Isekai/fantasy mangas…just didn’t show up in the other two series.

I am hoping that volume 2 onwards gives some variation to the plot but I’ll be honest even if it doesn’t I’ll still buy them and enjoy them because I am trash for this genre.

Also I see that this wasn’t suppose to hit shelves til July 8th so I got lucky today with a few early releases!

So this is my second ever Isekai I’ve read and I gotta say I love this shit. This story is very simple and very cute. I do wish there was a bit more plot going on but lowkey this is cute and fun, it felt like I was watching an episode of a Cute cozy anime. The characters are so fun and every single one brings a different feeling to the story. Volk my sweet Puppy boy is so cute and lowkey my favorite character he really loves his man and will do anything to protect him. Mitsuki the other main character is so fun and so relatable. The smut wasn’t heavy but what was incorporated into the story was pretty cool. Also the special bonus art at the end of the book was such a surprise but lowkey Frameable

Another cute and fun iteration on familiar boys love isekai tropes involving magical girls/prophecied heroes and unfortunately placed office workers with a dash of forced proximity and fuck or die. It reads very similarly to BL like "The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter", but the biggest difference is that it's a bit smuttier from the outset and there are weres. The mangaka can also draw horses, unlike the artists for Bean Counter. Unfortunately, this mangaka has some trouble drawing wolves, which are far more central to the story. Sometimes it works, a lot of the time it does not. It's still a cute story, though if you're looking for isekai fantasy smut, "Titan's Bride" is probably the better option (if you like buffer guys, at least).

Enjoyed the other worlds bookkeeper? Then you will like this.

I at first thought it was a novel when it was listed for pre-order. After tapping on the first page it became clear it was a manga. it was much like The Other Worlds Bookkeeper, another cute manga and a series of novels much in the same vein as this manga. However this manga also has adorable beast-humans. And the age old bigots and classist society to make a cute story have some depth and bring about plot tension.
Cute story cute art.

Is it tropey? Yep. Is it doing much new? Not really. Is it fun though? Yes, indeed. If you liked The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter and are looking for something that hits all the same tropes but is slightly different (and has a slightly higher spice content), this is a good one to go with. The personalities are even pretty similar across the board, but there's enough difference to keep it interesting, and there's definitely potential. Either way, I'll read the next volume.

Obviously, it has the same premise as the bean counter one, but I don’t know which one came first in the original publication language. In English, this one came second so…… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

All isekai related material are relatively the same, but the whole tag along not have magic so we gotta do it to get you adjusted is a very specific thing in my opinion. Either way, I enjoyed this little series even though it feels like it ends abruptly.

This was so good!! Really loved the whole concept of an older mc with a younger knight, along with the whole isekai plot and fantasy world (*T^T)

Will definitely be following this series, for however many volumes there will be in the future!!

Ngl I've been waiting on this one to arrive in the mail for a while now. And it was absolutely worth the wait. It's pretty similar plot wise to other isekais - like Bean Counter and Savior's Book Cafe, but it still has it's own personal charm and spin that I think will delight someone looking to fill that void. Would definitely recommend!!

Did I enjoy the book? Yes. Is it just a less well written Bean Counter rip off? Also yes. But I good plot is a good plot so I guess you can't argue with that. Bean Counter definitely did it better. Also, why make it mature if you're not really going to put anything mature in it? Don't know if I'll continue reading. The beast folk element is interesting, so maybe.
