Wer kennt sich heute noch aus mit den antiken Gestalten und Mythen, die wir oft ganz beiläufig im Munde führen? Diesem Mangel hilft Gerhard Fink ab, indem er uns an die 800 Figuren aus der griechischen und römischen Antike vorstellt und ihre Geschichten erzählt.

Das ist ein Buch das die Welt wirklich dringend gebraucht hat. Griechische und römische Mythologie nicht in breiten Epen, zum sich verlieren, sondern im kurzen und prägnanten Glossarstil von A-Z telegrammartig erklärt, warum diese Person "historisch" wichtig, mit wem sie verbandelt ist, und was der Gott oder der Held so angestellt hat. Am Ende des Werkes gibt es auch noch ausführliche Genealogietafeln, damit auch wirklich alle verworrenen Verhältnisse klar sind, wer mit wem verheiratet ist, geschlafen und uneheliche Kinder gezeugt hat. Von Anbeginn an - und das beginnt nicht bei Zeus sondern bei Chaos. Ach ja dieses Taschenbuch ist gar nicht dick, passt sogar in jede Handtasche also schnappt es Euch!

Wofür Ihr dieses Buch dringend und unbedingt benötigt? Na da fallen mir spontan 10 gute Gründe ein:
1) Im Museum wenn man vor einem Bild steht und keine Ahnung hat was darauf dargestellt wird, geschweige denn wer die handelnden Personen sind.
2) bei Wer wird Millionär wenn es um die 500.000 - 1.000.000 Euro geht,
3) zum Freunde verblüffen,
4) um beim Trivial Pursuit zu gewinnen,
5) wenn man den Ulysses von James Joyce oder andere wichtige Werke liest (bitte nicht den Köhlmeier! ),
6) um die Anspielungen und Figuren bei Heinrich Steinfest, Joachim Fernau, Brian Herbert, und vieler anderer Science Fiction Autoren... zu verstehen
7) um einer guten Freundin abzuraten, ihr Kind Medea zu nennen (hat nix genutzt)
8) um einem Kind eine total abgefahrene Gutenachtgeschichte zu erzählen, die es noch nie gehört hat
9) um die Namen von Raumsonden, Weltraummissionen, Sternbildern, die Erde bedrohende Asteroiden... einfach ganz viele Namen in der Wissenschaft und Forschung zu verstehen
10) um sich einfach mal ganz heimlich intelektuell 90% der restlichen Welt überlegen zu fühlen 😂😜

Please do note that I am not intending to likely ever read Gerhard Fink's Who's who in der antiken Mythologie from cover to cover, as it basically functions as an A-Z German language reference manual of and for both Greek and Roman mythology to be consulted as needed, as required (extensively but simply, and thus also fortunately not too intensively listing Greek and Roman deities, giants, monsters, mythical animals, but also many of the mortals, both royal and otherwise, encountered in the myths, the heroic legends, the mythology-based literature of ancient Greece and Rome). Wonderfully detailed, but still always readable and as such never too academically dense, Who's who in der antiken Mythologie provides a handy (and portable) research tome for both academics and those of us with just a casual and lay interest in the topic (for me, personally, Who's who in der antiken Mytholgogie is going to be a useful and readily portable, take-along research and study tool for when I am reading literature that has classic mythology as its themes or has Greek or Roman deities appearing as actual literary characters, and it will also be of much personal use at art galleries, especially if I am looking at the art of the Renaissance or pre 19th century France).

The detailed and yet simple genealogies and maps presented in the Appendix, are an added bonus, and the suggestions for further reading, the extensive bibliography is much appreciated, making Gerhard Fink's Who's who in der antiken Mytholgoie also a perfect starting point for further academic study and research (as well as potentially whetting our collective appetites for the classic literature of Ovid, Homer, Virgil etc.). Highly recommended, but with the caveat that because Who's who in der antiken Mytholgie is penned in German, a decent level of language fluency is most definitely both suggested and in my opinion even required (with the added point that at least some of the listed deities, monsters, kings, queens and the like will also have slightly variant spellings in German than what they would appear in English).

Özellikle Yunan ve parelelinde Roma mitolojisine ait karakterlerin ansiklopedik olarak anlatıldığı bir kitap. Karakterler anlatılırken sanatsal olarak nerelerde rastlandığına da değinilmiş.

Düz yazı olarak birçok karakterin arka arkaya anlatılmış olması kitabın okunurluğunu düşürmekte ve takibi zorlaştırmakta. Yine anlatım biçimi olarak harf sırasına göre yapılmış olması ilişkili karakterler ile ilgili bilgilerin farklı sayfalarda okunmasına ve takibinin zorlaşmasına sebep olmakta.
