Tanner never thought he'd be back in Amber Pines or back in Dash's bed.
But four years and 1,000 miles wasn't enough distance to make him forget the power of first love. Sure, he spent his time training with one of the world's top Hunters and he's no longer the scrawny teenager he used to be. But now that his former pack is threatened, Tanner is again involved in the dangerous life he thought he left behind.
Do Tanner and Dash have a second chance or has his werewolf made his heart as impenetrable as his body? With an all-out battle raging, Tanner must find his place in the new Amber Pines or be shut out forever.
If you're looking for Teen Wolf meets Queer As Folk, you'll love this book.
3 1/2 - An entertaining wolf sweetheart shorty. I want more!
The Boy and His Wolf was a short and quick 2 hrs wolf shifter audio-novella as I really enjoyed. This was both heartbreaking romantic, bloody violent and really funny.

Narrated in an exemplary good way by Gus Klondike.
Tanner (the local police chiefs son) living in LA, never thought he'd be back in his small Colorado hometown Amber Pines. ...Or even more unexpectedly, back in his "former" wolf-mate, Dash's big strong arms. ~ It has been 1.000 miles and four long (longing) years.
Big applause and high future expectations for more I look forward to read, or listen to, the next book (not yet published) in this PNR series to be. Great start, Sean Thomas! Keep on writing.
I LIKE - a sexy cuddly wolf....of course...always

...I thought for a moment, and realized that I have to raise up to four stars for this little gem.
My Review: It's no secret that between my TBR pile and my review schedule that I'm certainly not lacking for reading material (and won't be for the next decade with just what I own right now). But when I saw that Sean Thomas had his debut release out (and it was something I could read pretty quickly) I slipped it to the very top of my TBR pile. Sean Thomas received the Librarian of the Year award at RWA and I'll admit when I sat in on a GLBT workshop and saw him in there, I hoped he was working on an m/m...and yes, he was!!
This is his first release...and all I can say is WOW! You would never guess this was a debut novel. It's short. I read it in about an hour and a half, but the story is not lacking in depth at all. In fact, Sean Thomas does a fantastic job of setting up the world and complex backstory effortlessly through the dialogue and actions of the MC's. And this is an all-new paranormal world.
Tanner is training to be a Hunter and hasn't been with his mate, Dash, in four years. Dash is a werewolf in a pack where the Alpha has just been murdered. That Alpha and the entire pack are Tanner's friends, even if he's lived separately from them for four years and isn't a werewolf himself. He feels the loss of the alpha and comes home to the Colorado mountains to help the pack.
This entire book is told from Tanner's POV, but I could immediately feel the connection between these two guys. The four years separation has been brutal on both of them and it certainly hasn't changed their love for one another.
This is a novella so there are a lot of questions still to be answered about this world. I want to definitely know more about the Hunters. This book touches on them and what they do, but it feels like there's more there.
There's a bit of intrigue to the story line...the Alpha was murdered. And while there is resolution in this story, it still seems to me that there could be more to that story line...there were a few hints that it isn't quite finished, but they weren't those deadly cliffhanger type of things which drive me crazy.
Regardless, there are a lot of packs in this area and it will be interesting to see how Sean Thomas molds the world. I'm excited for more.
Definitely a winning debut novel with just a few minor editing glitches, but the story was good enough that I could easily overlook those. I enjoyed both the MC's, Tanner and Dash, but definitely LOVED Tanner. Getting into his head was fun...he has a bit of snark that I liked.
I recommend this one for an easy, entertaining break to your day where you can find an all-new paranormal world...male shifters...yum!
Even if this wasn't originally a Sterek fic that was pulled to publish, making the MC be a formerly-scrawny human who's the son of the sheriff and his "mate" be a stubbly, grumpy werewolf is practically begging for the comparison to be made.
If this were a free fanfic I'd likely have given it 3 stars. Since I had to pay for it, it's only getting 2.
Favorite Quote: "Better?" he asked. Considering I was still tied to a tree by a psychotic wolf in a pink shirt, no, not really.
I enjoyed this but it's pretty light, as expected for a novella. The overall point of the book was the reconnection of mates; the secondary action was a little haphazard. With more 'meat' to the pack issues and stronger motivations/explanations for the rival packs and rogues, the storyline would be more compelling.
Why the bad reviews? This was cute... I totally liked it. I hope audible puts the rest of the series on here. First,if you don't like m/m romance...when then don't listen to this... and second, if you don't like sappy shifter books, when you know the couple will eventually get back together... THEN DON'T LISTEN!!! DUH!!!
Anyway... I loved the two main characters... Tanner and Dash... Tanner was all tough human guy in the beginning...but O NO.... once your back in Dash's neighborhood...he got all sappy again... CUTE!!!
There was a pretty decent shifter clan vs. rouge shifters scenario going on... but other than that it wasn't a WOWZA story... but well worth the listen...
I enjoyed it..
Worth a buy or sale... Save your credit... this is pretty cheap... under 5 bucks!
Readers first meet Tanner as he's engaging in battle (against other fellow hunters in training!). It's after training he gets news that his old alpha has been murdered. He makes a quick decision to return home and to face his mate after being away for four year.
It was such a different story from the normal shifter stuff. First off, Tanner is a human who trained to become a hunter. He left home never planning to return leaving his mate behind and trying to move on. The idea of a hunter not hunting paranormal without prejudice was a unique idea. For that, I liked it right off the bat. The story/plot was intriguing and I have to admit my only complaint is that I wish it was longer and the author had flushed out the story. Also to note the pack seemed exceptionally small with just Mason, Jacey, Carson and Tanner being mentioned.
This is a fun paranormal romance novella that moved at a quick pace. I would love to get more background on Tanner and his world, but I guess I'll have to wait for the full Amber Pines novel... sigh.
This novella would be enjoyed by people who liked Nora Roberts's Sign of Seven trilogy, or really anyone who likes a spicy paranormal romance.
A cute and sweet novella about being human in a wolf pack.
While we first meet Tanner while he is working as a Hunter in Los Angeles the story really begins and ends with the wolf pack and the mate that Tanner left in Amber Pines, Colorado.
It's been four years since Tanner left and it's immediately apparent that both Tanner and his mate, Dash, have both been suffering the ache of that separation. That time apart was hard and hurt them both. But I think they both learned essential things and grew up a lot during that time.
They haven't seen each other at all and have both tried to move on with other people. It's probably going to bug you a little and it could be a sticking point for some. But remind yourself that they had every right to try to move on while they were broken up for fouryears.
Everything moves quickly in this story and it's short length doesn't allow for much extra in the way of getting to know the characters. There is a lot of fighting and some angst in the story and things are going at high speed throughout. It's a novella in a series so I'm hoping that we will get more details and time to get to know the characters better in the other stories.
Lots of fun and action. Much sexual tension and that ucky dealing with the ex and not being over them while you can't figure out how they feel about you and what you want to do about them.
I had a good time reading this. I love shifter stories and I always enjoy a love story.
Tanner and Dash were lovers years ago, but Dash’s overprotectiveness drives Tanner out of town. Now he’s back for a funeral and Dash is in his life again.
Dash has to come to grips with the fact that Tanner can stand on his own, or face losing him all over again. Tanner has to let Dash do what his nature calls him to do.
There’s a mystery surrounding the Alpha’s death and still a lot of danger to navigate before these two find their HEA.
**
This was a wonderful (if too short) novella about reconnecting with one’s first love.
There’s a bit of world-building, some smexy times, some violence Wolf style and a bit of a mystery.
In short, it’s got a bit of everything!
I enjoyed this and hope to see more from Amber Pines, CO.
(I always love reading/listening about my home state!)
Audio
Gus Klondike does a great job with this narration. He’s fierce and snarky at the appropriate times and has an easy-to-listen-to narrating style that lets the story unfold.
I recommend this to fans of shifter romances with 4 of 5 stars
It was nice and sweet and it was hot. But mostly annoying. Tanner is an idiot and so is Dash. Seriously. Zero communication and understanding skills considering one of them (Dash) can read his mate's mind. Oh and considering Tanner was going to leave (not a choice he made less than 3 times over different issues evey little bit) because of that moment of hesitation on Dash's part, he never even cleared things up about it with him later. Pfft. Seemed like it was drama for drama's sake as a result. So all in all, it was ok. Even though I wanted to shoot both of 'em idiots.
An interesting combination of shifter and magical creatures. I liked the MCs, but wanted a little more about their original relationshipand maybe for the angst to carry for more than two pages. Easy going read.
This was a cute story - I'm always a fan of the shapeshifter stuff. I think I would've liked it better if I had read it instead of listened to it on audio though. I can't say I was thrilled with the narrator.
This book was ok... I love paranormal but this book didn't explain anything and the plot was weak... I'm glad it was just a novella... I won't be reading the next book... Gave 3 stars because I finished it....
✮.✮. 1/2 perhaps? Difficult. I liked it; the story is short and well written, but the characters especially, were rather forgettable and not much happened, so... *shrugs*
I'm probably not going to pick up another installment if there is one.
This was a surprise. Little sappy but it was just what I was looking for. It had a different shifter universe that was intriguing but I enjoyed it thoroughly. I am hooked on the series.
