I've been a soldier, freelance journalist, tended bar, sold designer cakes, owned a painting and decorating company along with a number of other schemes and scams. If that doesn't offend you I also play bagpipes with the Brian Boru Irish Pipe Band. All my books stand alone, read them in whatever order you wish. They are filled with the sort of oddballs we are all curious about, but wisely, prefer to keep at a distance. None of my characters will be saving the world from terrorism, international banking conspiracies or coups to take over the government. Rather, they inhabit a world just below the surface of polite society, characters with one foot on either side of the law. The circumstances they find themselves in are usually due to bad decisions, but bad decisions lead to interesting stories. They serve not so much as an example but as a warning to us all. I LOVE the way this book ended. Dev isn't perfect, but he did right by Desi. what a sweetheart. Mike Faricy writes a great book. I get so caught up in them that I can't put them down. I definitely recommend the series!

Laugh, gasp and feel something
Dev Haskell's flare for trouble of the oddest kind makes you laugh. He also keeps you on the edge of your seat. But never have you seen the softer side of Dev like this until now.

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.
This is the sixth book in the Dev Haskell Private Investigator Series. I LOVED IT!
Dev Haskell is a fantastic character. He may be a bit of a womanizing pervert at times, but he has a good heart. However, even his best intentions seem to get him into trouble! This character has wormed his way into my affections, even though some of his antics have me rolling my eyes at times!
I have been eagerly awaiting the release of this book, but unfortunately, have only been able to get to read it now. I started to read this book and struggled to put it down! I was extremely surprised at how more mature Dev has become. It may have been something to do with his previous experiences with members of the opposite sex. Or maybe the violence he has gone through, and survived, during the previous five books. In any case, there is certainly a shift in his attitude and focus. Dev's next case is a rollercoaster ride of danger and adventure. I found myself cheering him on as he takes on a case that looks hopeless; this is his last shot to get it right. There is mystery, danger and adventure aplenty in this novel, and Swindle Lawless (from Tutti Frutti - Book #5) makes a re-appearance as Brandi. She actually is quite helpful and brave, as she goes undercover to help Dev with his case. The end of the book left me wanting more, even though the story reached a satisfying conclusion.
Mike Faricy has written a fantastic detective series. I love his fast paced writing style. Some readers may not get his tongue in cheek humour, but I really do, and I am looking forward to reading more of his books in the future.
I highly recommend this book (and the other Dev Haskell books in the series) if you love detective novels that are entertaining and extremely addictive. - Lynn Worton

When I finished reading Faricy's "Tutti Frutti" there were several chapters of his next book offered at the end as a teaser. I read them and had to read all of "Last Shot." Fortunately the book was available to me at no cost because I am a member of Amazon Prime, and the Kindle Owner's Lending Library had the book.
This is the same old Dev with the same main characters and obsession with beautiful (but troublesome) women, and (as always) he is charged with a crime while doing an investigation. This book is a little different because Dev refuses to accept a case from a young woman and then is compelled to take it after she is killed. Some of the old humor is there, but I felt that he was more serious and driven with this investigation.
I enjoy Mr. Faricy's writing style but sure would like to read something with similar humor but not so predictable a set of characters and situations.

I think this is the fourth book of the series I have read, and so far it is my favourite.
While Dev manages to get himself into hairy and hilarious situations as usual, in this story he is very much the knight-in-somewhat-dinged-and-tarnished-armour. I'd have to re-read the other stories, but I don't think this aspect of Dev's personality comes across as strongly in the other books I have read so far (Mr. Swirlee, Bombshell, Tutti Frutti).
As usual, I like the supporting cast of quirky characters - especially the "usual suspects" well known from other stories in the series.
A very entertaining and enjoyable read. :)

'Last Shot' is another great book in the Dev Haskell series. He cracks me up. I loved the storyline. Dev, as usual gets into some pretty intense situations. Yet he always seems to come out ahead. I enjoyed how the story played out. The characters, as usual, were a cast of colorful personalities. Mike Faricy has written another great read. I look forward to reading more of Dev Haskell's adventures. A great add to your tbr list. Recommended.

Being a big fan of the movie Fargo, I was shocked—shocked, I tell you—that none of these characters spoke in that dialect I call Arctic Creole. But Dev Haskell was good company on this winding trail of “intrigue, rank ineptitude, and raucously entertaining one night stands.” I’ll definitely tag along on other cases in this series. You betcha. Darn tootin’. All righty, then.

I always grab the Dev Haskell mysteries when they are free on Kindle. They are pretty funny, though quite repetitive. I found this one to be rather boring, though, and often chose to read something else instead. It’s decent enough as a mind vacation, but I don’t really recommend this one. There are other books in the series that are much better.

As fun and engaging as the rest of the Dev Haskell series. Haskell is as funny and likable as Jim Rockford, but a good deal more screwed up. Faricy throws in a healthy dose of humor with his mystery, which makes the story that much more of a pleasure to read.

It wasn't that great of a mystery (it was easy to figure out early on), but the ride to get to the conclusion was interesting and fun. Dev makes a good read.

another brilliant story! Although I would have liked to have seen a longer ending. without giving anything away it was as if the author ran out of time. but still a good book!

LAST SHOT gives us more insight into just who Devlin Haskell really is. Yes, he still cracks wise, but he also reflects inward which gives his character more depth. I've thought of Dev mostly as a kind of goofball until now. There is a kind of quiet strength and more integrity in him than you might think.
Desi Quinn is a woman wronged. She is not just down on her luck, she can't get Dev to dig into why she was wronged. This is strange because she is an attractive, intelligent woman… and (if you've been reading the series) you know just how Dev feels about attractive women. She is the almost client, then she is dead. Some of the last words she spoke to him were "You were sort of my last shot. I don’t know, but I just have a feeling.” These words will haunt him throughout the book.
In some respects, the books in this series border on noir without actually crossing that line; LAST SHOT puts a couple of toes in that direction. The Spot is not the bar in Casablanca, and Heidi Bauer is far from the tragic heroine. The usual suspects - Detective Norris Manning, Lt. Aaron LaZelle, and Louie Laufen - are all there in their usual roles that roots the story in 21st century reality. So far, and I have a lot of books left to read, LAST SHOT is my favorite.
On to book seven… TING-A-LING

Desi was framed by lover for the theft of the Federal Reserve served 6 years and is on probation for the next 9 years. She wants revenge on the lover and wants Dev to help her get the evidence. Karla calls Dev she hasn’t seen Desi since Dev spoke to her. She wants him to go look at her apartment to see if she’s okay. Dev open the door to the apartment it isn’t locked, he smells death and there are a lot of flies. Dev feels really bad that he didn’t help Desi while she was alive and decides to investigate Gaston and her death. Another good book holds your interest until the end.

Last shot
Very good! Glad I decided to try on more to see. The first was ok but this was excellent. Very interesting characters fully fleshed out and whole. You could see them in your mind the story was very interesting and watching how he worked out the 16 years of investigation. How the pieces came together an you could see h o w it worked out. Unconventional occurrences people and action. Really good. I highly recommend it

Tough as nails
Dev Haskell is enough to put off anyone from ever wanting to become a private investigator! Lumps and bumps and bruises, with not quite enough female appreciation to make it all worth while. I love thous series and enjoy the laughs and the familiar locations in Minnesota. I’m glad that Mr. Faricy keeps writing new ones!

Enjoyable read
I just realized I have been reading a lot of books by female authors and enjoyed the change of a male writer. Men and women do think differently, and a book from a male writer was a great change.
The book has humour, action, investigation and it the storyline flows well. Will enjoy reading more of Mike Faricy books.

I think this was the best book in the series so far. A bit less debauchery and a bit more sleuthing. Not bad at all. I had considered giving up on this series after the last book, but this one was good enough to warrant sticking around.

You just can't beat any book by Mike Faricy!! I love and look forward to reading his work....when I am too tired to do anything, I find I am never too tired to read about Dev Haskell .... just love this series.
So all I can say is, if you haven't tried any of this series, or any of Mike Faricy's work, you are missing a great experience!!!!

Murder and the usual mayhem with the ladies has Dev in trouble again!
