Wedding Veil Wishes #2

Once Smitten, Twice Shy

Rate this book
New York Times bestselling author Lori Wilde's heartwarming story will prove that second chances are always possible.

Wedding videographer Tish Gallagher is at the end of her rope. She's just spent her last buck on nonreturnable (but oh so fabulous) shoes. And her most sustainable relationship is with a pint of Hv§agen-Dazs. So she makes a wish on a lucky wedding veil...and sees the man she never stopped loving, her ex-husband, secret service agent Shane Tremont. Sure, their chemistry was hotter than a Texas summer, but their clashes were legendary, and no amount of longing will change that.

When her dream job of recording the first daughter's wedding appears out of the blue, Tish knows it's her only shot to get out of the red. Just one teensy Shane is the groom. From the moment they see each other, she knows nothing's changed--the same old magic is still between them, as irresistible and potent as ever. But he's promised to another and Tish has been burned before.

Lori Wilde can’t remember a time when she didn’t want to write. She even went to nursing school so she could have a schedule flexible enough to allow her to write on the side. She nursed for 20 years, working in a variety of settings from the newborn nursery to the recovery room, to dialysis. But she never lost her desire to write.

She sold her first book in 1994 to Silhouette Romance but later discovered she had a flair for comedy and branched out to Harlequin Duets and now, to Blaze.

Lori is an adventuresome soul who loves to travel. She’s taken flying lessons, completed two marathons, rode in a hot-air balloon, performed with a professional jazz band, traveled Europe as a teenager, hiked volcanoes in Hawaii, trod on glaciers in Alaska, shot white-water rapids, water-skied, snow-skied, raced all-terrain vehicles, bodysurfed in the Gulf of Mexico, and photographed grizzly bears in Yellowstone.

She lives in her native Texas, with her own real-life hero, Bill.

2.5 stars. I couldn’t sympathize with the characters who were making impractical and stupid decisions.

Tish and Shane are madly in love and in lust with each other. Within less than a year after getting married, a crisis happens which causes each of them to make stupid decisions, and they divorce. Two years later, they still long for each other but don’t act on it. Shane proposes to someone he likes but does not love. His new fiancé Elysee hires Tish to make a video film of the engagement party and wedding.

This story might be ok for someone wanting nothing too brainy with a feel good ending. Tish was wonderfully artistic and creative, but she had no practicality or business sense. She was further weakened by her habit of burying her emotions under excess spending. I could accept the initial set of stupid actions causing the divorce due to a crisis. But I did not like the dumb decisions both Tish and Shane were making two years later. Therefore, I didn’t have enough sympathy for them to be able to enjoy the story. However, there may be some readers who will find humor in watching impractical foolishness and don’t need to sympathize with the characters. In Spoilers below, I describe a few actions that annoyed me, which might help readers decide if they would enjoy this book in a way that I did not. If one is not annoyed, the rest of the story was entertaining. On the plus side, the author wrote a wonderfully sensual sex scene for the couple’s first date.

CAUTION SPOILERS.

I was annoyed at Tish’s stupidity over the way she handled her client lunch at the beginning of the book. She was behind on all of her bills. Her credit cards were maxed out. Her car was to be repossessed. Yet she takes two people to lunch who see the waiter cut up her two credit cards which have been cancelled. Because of that, the potential client had to pay the bill and never hired her.

Then, immediately after that, she spent her last $94 on a pair of shoes, leaving only $3 to her name for food. I have a hard time sympathizing with such self destructive behavior.

I can’t believe Shane was such a wimp that he would ask Elysee to marry him when his inner thoughts at the moment were “Tell her it was a mistake. Tell her you didn’t mean to ask her to marry you just yet.”

I did not like that Tish walked through the house, outside and into her car, and then drove through all kinds of secret service protection when Larkin held a gun at her side. Her life had been threatened with the fire. She should have known he would kill her anyway. She should have run for it while she was in a place full of secret service agents. Instead she stupidly went with him to her car and drove off so he could kill her in private.

Later, Elysee sneaks away from her secret service protection to go to an isolated location alone where an assassin is waiting to kill someone. She has no weapon yet intends to help the targeted victim.

Sexual language: moderate. Number of sex scenes: two. Setting: current day U.S. Copyright: 2008. Genre: contemporary romance and chick lit.

Tish is hired to be the videographer for her ex's wedding to the President's daughter

What I enjoyed:
* Shane, other than the stupid proposal. He is lost after being hurt in the line of duty.
* Elysee was interesting. For a President's daughter, she sees the best in people and is a bit naïve.

What could have been better:
* Tish needs professional help. Anyone who spends their last $90 on a pair of shoes after their car was repo'd, needs help. And she seems incapable of asking for help, even from friends. She is all on Shane to stop trying to be perfect (which is a problem), but doesn't seem to acknowledge her own issues.
* It is hard to read a story where people are making such stupid decisions, like the engagement that you know isn't going to last. Plus it comes close to cheating, which is never something I like to read about the H/h in a romance.

I'm sorry, I wanted to give better rating but just couldn't. Gave up on this one. I just really did not like Tish, AT ALL. Story seemed like it was probable good but I just could not stand another second reading about this character.

From amazon.com:

Wedding videographer Tish Gallagher is at the end of her rope. Her business is about to go bust. She's just spent her last buck on nonreturnable (but oh so fabulous) shoes. And her most sustainable relationship is with a pint of Haagen Dazs. So she makes a wish on the lucky wedding veil to get out of debt...and sees the man she never stopped loving, her ex-husband, secret service agent Shane Tremont. Sure, their chemistry was off-the-charts sizzling hot, but their clashes were legendary, and no amount of longing will change that.

This is the second installment in the Wedding Veil Wishes series involving four friends and a mysterious wedding veil that seems to grant a wish to the holder.

In this installment we learn more about Tish, who is divorced yet still in love with her ex-husband Shane. I didn't know much about either one at the beginning but Ms. Wilde slowly clues you in to both of them throughout the book and you learn more about their courtship, marriage and divorce as the story moves along. And that is really where the love story is since a lot of the book Shane is actually engaged to someone else. But it really works. You always knew they would get together in the end, so I liked the added twist of someone else being involved.

Both Tish and Shane are very likeable characters. I have a little of Tish in me and a lot of other women would agree. Shane is an amazing hero - and really a hero you find out reading the book. Both learn a lot about each other and themselves as you read through the book and that learning process is another thing that is central to the plot of the book.

There is a small suspense plot involved and I didn't really see what happened coming so that was very well done also.

All-in-all this was a very enjoyable read and I will definitely keep reading this series. Ms. Wilde has put together a very fun set of characters and the wedding veil link is fun also. So if you like romance and want to get caught up in a book, I highly suggest Once Smitten, Twice Shy.

Good book. Tish is trying to figure out how to save her business. She needs to work a good wedding to get herself out of debt. After making a wish on the magic wedding veil, she gets asked to film the wedding of the president's daughter. She is thrilled and heads out to meet the bride and groom. The bride is sweet and innocent and will film like a dream. So will the groom, who is rugged and hot - and her ex-husband. She has never stopped loving him, but can't forgive him for his withdrawal when she needed him most. Shane can't believe he is going to have to deal with Tish, who always tied him in knots, but who also betrayed his trust. As they are constantly thrown together by his fiancee, their attraction becomes harder to resist. They also realize that they are not the same people that they had been during their marriage, but it's too late to do anything about it. When Tish is attacked, Shane knows there is something going on that he is missing and needs to find out. The mystery is solved in the end, and they get their happy ending. I liked Tish, though he refusal to face her pain is irritating. That is what caused her to lose herself in her shopping addiction and created some of the problems between her and Shane. Shane's refusal to show his emotions and live up to his father's unrealistic expectations also added to their issues. If they had just been able to talk to each other, things would have worked out better. But they both needed the space to grow and face their demons. The president's daughter was a bit of an airhead, and very naive. It was her throwing Shane and Tish together that helped them, but ended up showing her that she and Shane were not meant to be together. I was glad to see that she did have the maturity to end things. Overall a fun book.

A little far fetched...These types of romance books are always a guilty pleasure so not much to critique. I was rooting for Tish and Shane the whole way. The ending was obvious but the subplot was thrown gave it some body. Elysee (the first daughter) is naive but not annoyingly so.I liked her character despite that flaw. Overall, I enjoyed the story.

It was a cute little chic read. A little unbelievable but if you are looking for something lite and fun its worth a shot. I find it unbelievable because what woman in her right mind would hire her fiancee's ex wife to video tape her wedding and the fact that she was the president's daughter.

Sexy Second Chance at Love Story
4 stars

Wedding videographer Tish Gallagher is in dire straights. Her business is about to go bust and she's down to her last few dollars in her bank account. So she makes a wish on the lucky wedding veil to get herself out of debt but instead sees the man she never stopped loving - her ex-husband, secret service agent Shane Tremont.

In a sudden reversal of fortune, Tish lands herself the biggest job of her life - videoing the wedding of the president's daughter. The job is the answer to her prayers and the way to save her business and her bank balance. There's just one problem - Shane is the groom. The magic is still there but with so much baggage, him promised to another and a few dark secrets, will they ever be able to find each other again?

This is the second book in Wilde's Wedding Veil Wishes series after There Goes the Bride. The couple from that book do make a brief appearance but I would say that this book stands nicely alone as the only recurring storyline is that of the magic veil.

I adore second chance love stories and so I was looking forward to this book. It didn't disappoint and the chemistry between Shane and Tish was emotional and gave that little hitch in your tummy during their scenes together.

The book was very much about Tish and Shane and how they overcame their issues and managed to work things out between them. There was some action but I did feel the book was lot about the emotion and the main character's connection. I still really enjoyed the book and couldn't put it down, reading it in a very short time. It's an excellent addition to the series or a fun stand alone book and definitely one I would recommend.

Tish Gallagher has been divorced for two years. Her life has spiraled out of control. Her shopping addiction was one of the reasons that led to her divorce but not the only one. Also not wanting to admit it to herself she was still in love with her ex.

Shane Tremont is a Secret Service agent and Tish' ex. He is the bodyguard for the POTUS daughter. While on duty he saved her life and in the course became severely injured. Elysee the daughter he was guarding was by his side throughout his hospitalization and even took him back to the presidential ranch to recuperate. Being so close, they fell in love and became engaged.

Wanting the best wedding possible Elysee hired videographer Tish Gallagher. Tish took the job for many reasons. She needed the money badly. A wedding such as this would boost her career. The only thing that caused her hesitation was that it was Shane's wedding. It was something to watch Elysee, Shane and Tish as they came together.

It didn't take long for things to become interesting with many twists and turns. I loved every minute of this book and was really hated for it to end. It is deserving of all five stars!

This was the second in the Wedding Veil Wishes books that I read after watching the Hallmark movies that were loosely (and I mean very loosely) based on the books. As with the first book, everythink has been changed in the movie except for the idea that the handmade wedding veil exists and helps grant wishes. The main character in this novel is Tish, best friend of Delaney from book 1. Tish is divorced and is struggling to make ends meet as well as to get over her ex, Shane. The two of them have some serious chemistry going on but they separated and divorced after a miscarriage and disappointments all around. Tish is a wedding videographer who is hired by Shane's new fiancee to record both their engagement party and wedding. The real kicker is that the fiancee is the daughter of the POTUS. Interesting story with some mysteries plot twists thrown in. I enjoyed it!

This was a rather average romance novel about a wedding videographer (is this still a thing?) and a secret service agent from Texas. I felt the character of the heroine didn't really hang together, although I liked the secret service agent better, most of the action didn't have a Texas feel to it (which might have been more fun), and their backstory didn't convince me either to like them or to believe what happened. I rather liked the secondary story about the President's daughter and HER secret service bodyguard better, although that story did not get fully developed. I think that's the book I would rather have read.

Once Smitten, Twice Shy of the Wedding Veils is reissued with a new title: Second Chance Hero and a new cover. The story remains the same. The relationship between Trish Gallagher and Shane Tremont is complex and bittersweet. Two years after their divorce, their chance meeting has resurfaced many unresolved issues that drove them apart. They find they still love each other, but until they confront their pasts and bridge the misunderstanding between them, would they be able to move forward.

This a cute story about a divorced couple, Tish Gallagher and Shane Tremont who never really stopped loving each other. It is also about how Shane had been assigned to protect the president’s daughter as a secret service agent and after he was injured after saving her life, the president’s daughter thought she was in love with Shane. The thing everyone needed to learn was balance and this story gives you that.

Kismet connections are great for the heart! Loved the passion that Shane and Tish had. The ferry love scene....nicely done! So glad the way this all turned out and how neither of them had been with anyone in the 2 years they were divorced. Their connection was really strong and I thoroughly enjoyed this read

There was a good story in here someplace but it got bogged down with a lot of fluff. Wish the heroine had an actual problem to overcome, instead of...shopping....okay. I mean what she did was bad but it needed to come from some place more, hero was kinda lame too, tell me more about Cal! He sounds hot. Eh not really that great, but good premise bad followthrough. Skip.

I am usually a big fan of second chance love stories, but this one was long and tedious. It was full of self doubt and moodiness. It took a long time to fully develop an interest in the main characters lives now, and reliving their past mistakes was extremely difficult and honestly, boring.
This is the second book in the Wedding Veil Wishes series.

I had already read it with the first edition, and as i was reading again i remembered every feeling i had like it was a new experience. Ps: with the new edition being from 2019 i think it should have cut or put another example in the impolitically thing it has in the beginning, it made me very uncomfortable.

This was an okay romance novel. The story was great about love, redemption and forgiveness, but the main character was just meh. I actually liked Shane way more than I liked Tish. It was a fast read, which is good (I typically am a very slow reader). I think I finished this one in about 3 days.

Enjoyable

A story about mistakes made, loss, heartache, second chances, lessons learned, and a HEA. A little intrigue and mystery, and an unlikely hero. I didn’t care for the bad language. Thankfully it didn’t fill the entire story.

What can I say, I read it in a day, couldn't tear myself away!

Tish is a struggling videographer, poor as a church mouse, and broken hearted from her divorce. When she's asked to film the wedding of the President's daughter, Elysee, she's convinced it will save her career. Little does she know the groom is Shane Trement. Her ex husband whom she still loves!

Shane is secret service, bodyguard to Elysee. After saving her life they realize their friendship is special and safe. Out of loneliness and fear after injuring his hand, Shane asks Elysee to marry him. Before long, the two realize they are none other than friends, no chemistry. Shane never stopped loving his Tish!

Elysee sees the love that Shane still has for his ex wife, and she respects them both for different reasons, but Shane takes care of her and she needs that. Will that realization be enough for her to call off the wedding or will she stick around anyway?

Shane and Tish don't know their feelings for one another...will they be able to each say the things they need to hear?

With a mystery and danger lurking in between some oh so sexy scenes, it seems like all 3 will have a hard time coming out alive before the truths are revealed!

Once Smitten, Twice Shy by Lori Wilde
Secret Services Agent Shane Tremont was on the lookout for anybody that wanted to harm the President's daughter: Elysse
He gets between her and a backhoe and saves her life, destroying his chances of recovering fully after a 13 week in a coma hospital stay. He
recuperates at her father's ranch.
Tish, Shanes ex wife is on the job hunt and is much overdrawn her accounts at the bank.
Tish saw Shane pleading for her to help him after she wished for a lot of things.
Tish is a videographer and does weddings.
When Elysee agrees to marry Shane, they've spent a year together every day talking to one another about everything,
she decides to hire Tish to video tape their wedding. She wants them all to get along knowing Tish is Shanes ex.
Her girlfriends stand behind her, get on with her life, settle her finances after she's been paid to videotape the wedding but she's still in love with her ex.
Lots of scenes with hot steamy sex are included. More problems when Elysee has her own secrets that she doesn't want others to know about.

Overall, i was really disappointed... I actually read the series out of order and this was well.... frustrating. Its uncomfortable to read about an "almost affair" and be happy with them. "Tish" is also hard to like and pity. She has lost everything, yes, but it was pretty self-inflicted. I realize that their loss, (you will find out if you read it!) was very difficult for lack of a better word, but I find it mind-numbingly frustrating for people to relieve their woes with shopping... essentially racking up ridiculous debt and then putting your HUSBAND in extreme debt behind his back! Then he leaves you... run after him dummy! Don't expect him to run back to you after that!

And most frustrating of all is ELYSSE!! Did she EVER want to marry him because it was downright ANNOYING how much she was pairing her fiance and his EX-WIFE together!!!!!!!! Good lord, I think I'm done with Lori Wilde after this one.... Ok, maybe not. She is a guilty pleasure of sweet romance, at least most of the time.

This the 2nd in the wedding veil series but was a bit of a disappointment after the enjoyment of the romantic and more exciting 1st book. The main characters of Tish (a videographer) and Shane (her ex-husband Secret Service agent) were pleasantly agreeable. However, their romantic feelings for each other were supposed to be explosive, but except for an exciting scene on the ferry in a thunderstorm, they seemed sadly predictable. It was kind of fun to see some of the inner workings of the White House since the 3rd person in the triangle was none other than the daughter of the president, but even that was a little bit unbelievable, especially when she slipped off the grounds unseen. Like that's possible. And the murderer got interrupted in the middle of a murder by a cell phone call. Really? This was a pleasant book, but nothing special. I hope the next in the series brings back some sizzle.

Initially I wasn't sure if 'Once Smitten, Twice Shy' (the second book of four in the 'Wedding Veil Wishes' series) was going to be my sort of book but as it developed I thoroughly enjoyed it. Most of the things I had trouble with at the beginning were explained in a way that made sense to me and took them off my personal niggle list.

Lori Wilde explains her character development really well and in great detail without slowing the story down in any way. I love the way she brought all the loose ends together and resolved them.

I was going to read a book from a different author on my TBR list before starting book three in this series, 'Addicted to Love', but as I am finding the series so much fun and a great stress relief I can't wait to read the next one!
