Aphrodite's Girdle is missing, and Hale knows it will take all of his superpowers to retrieve it. The mortal who wears it--the plain Tracy Tannin--is now as irresistible to men as her grandmother, a goddess of the silver screen, once was. Every man wants her, including the immortal Hale, who wants to convince Tracy she is as desirable as he sees her.

I turned to this book for badly needed comic relief and I certainly got what I came for--lots of big laughs at a delightful story. Four or maybe five stars! And then there's the second half of the book. Oops, what happened? Well, there's a bit of action toward the end that had me laughing again, but I had to wade through page after page after page of the two main characters' inner turmoil.
To put it in the best light I can think of, I'll say the type of humor changed drastically, from comic action in what was obviously going to be a paranormal romance to a parody of the plot of so many romances in which the couple's true love is glaringly obvious to everybody but themselves. I mean that their internal ups and downs are so frequent and repetitive we're not supposed to take them seriously, are we? Well, if it was a parody, and not a plunge into Serious Romantic Quandaries, it missed my funnybone but others might well enjoy that second half.
The world-building comes in splashes and daubs, perfect for comedy but hard to capture in a review. I'll try, of course. The prologue is an Urgent Eyes-Only Communique from the Venerate Council of Protectors, 1-800-555-HERO, website "superhero central," to Hale (one name only, you know, like Cher) alerting him to "imminent adverse action by Hieronymous" the Outcast and requiring Hale's compliance with rules and regulations of the Mortal-Protector Liaison Office. A five-star read loomed brightly for me, and the first few chapters didn't disappoint.
Hale the Protector/Superhero goes by only one name because his worldly profession is cover model for romance novels, and he takes full advantage of his fame among hormonal young women; in between sexy times he enjoys talking to Elmer, his ferret. (Totally five stars for Elmer, all the way, but he's very scarce in that boring second half.) Talking, mind you. Not telepathy as you might expect from Atticus and Oberon in Hounded; one of Hale's powers is that he can understand what Elmer means by those chirpy sounds he makes, and we get Elmer's dialogue in convenient italics because we spend so much time anyway inside Hale's brain.
Hale's mission is to recover Aphrodite's Girdle for the Venerate Council, and the curiously spelled Outcast Superhero, Hieronymous, wants to get it for himself so he can achieve, wait for it, world domination. Uh, how's that? The girdle (actually a funny-looking belt) gives its wearer whatever that wearer wishes for, so long as the wearer has it on. I forget now how she came by it, but silent film star Taluhla (good grief) recently died and left it to her granddaughter (drum roll) Tracy Tannin. And who is Tracy Tannin? She's an animal trainer for television shows who needs to find a replacement for her way-too-pregnant ferret. Hale and Elmer to the rescue!
So will Hale and Tracy get their Happily Ever After? Of course, after those 300+ pages of uproarious adventure and inner turmoil. Will the Girdle (actually a belt) be secured for the Council? It had better, unless there's a funny fate for it . Will Hale use his superpowers of strength and invisibility, to say nothing of his propulsion cloak that lets him fly to Texas and back in a few minutes? Over and over again. Tracy has the best fantasy EVER because it was really invisible Hale's first sexy time with her, and when she finds out she's perfectly happy with that--she just has turmoil over everything else.
While Hale is thick as a stick about anything to do with emotions, Tracy operates at roughly half her age of 27. Hale's sister, who is a half-superhero now happily married (see book #1 in this series), is probably my favorite character, though I liked the rest of the supporting cast--even Mordichai (Mordi to his friends), Hieronymous's reluctantly obedient son who does have ideas of his own and is not officially an Outcast like his father but merely on Probation; he doesn't handle dilemmas too well, but he has a streak of good will.
Recommended, with the reservations I indicated. (And by the way, except for Aphrodite's name, the title and the cover picture have no relation I could see to the story or to each other.)
This book was another first for me. I don't usually pick this type for my reading. It was quite interesting and funny. It centers on Tracy an assistant to a animal trainer for movies, and Hale, a protector, and he is also immortal. Hale has a ferret that he talks to and understands which at times is very funny. Anyway, Hale is sent to protect Tracy because she has an artifact, left to her by her grandmother, that once belonged to Aphrodite and it has powers. It is a rare belt and Tracy wears it and finds that men find her attractive and want to be with her. This puts her life in danger as others also want this belt. As Hale gets to know Tracy their love grows, although he doesn't want to belong to a mortal. You will have to read this one to see how it comes out. This is also a book in the Bodyguard book set. A good read
This second book in the Superhero Central series is pleasant guff but very lightweight. While I like the characters and premise, it suffers from the same thing all Julie Kenner's books do: considering these are all about action figures, the main characters spend way too many pages repetitively thinking and agonizing over their predicaments instead of just doing something! Once I've got the gist of the story (first 10-20 pages), I find myself skimming over the pages looking for dialogue and action, and ignoring all the inner turmoil - it works a treat. I liked that the same characters are continued from the first book, but the focus was on a different part of the group.
This is the second book in a superhero romance series set in modern-day America. It's light, funny, and endearing. I could see Katie MacAlister fans liking Julie Kenner. This story is about Hale, romance novel cover model by day/superhero by night, protecting and falling in love with Tracey, a mortal animal trainer in Hollywood. Tracy inherited a magical artifact - Aphrodite's Girdle (a belt) - from her grandmother. It gives the wearer the power to get whatever they want from others. Bad guys are after it, of course, though they are silly bad guys. A fun, quick read.
Let's spell this out: You put Greek Gods, Super hero powers, and romance together in a blender.... And this is what you get?!? There are an extremely few books that I start and cannot finish because they are JUST that bad! This is HORRIBLE!!! How did this series ever get a publisher, I will never know. There is just no accounting for taste!
This book was so unbelievably horrible. Every word was a disappointment. I forced myself to read as much as possible, but just couldn't bother with the last 2 chapters. It was a waste of time and I just didn't care how it ended.
Welcome to a world where there are real superheroes. The distant descendants of the old Greek Gods, and they all have different superpowers. They make sure there are no bad guys out for world domination, and that powerful artifacts don’t fall in the wrong hands. So when Aphrodite’s Girdle shows up, after it has been missing for centuries, Hale is tasked with the retrieval of it. It is just the perfect job for him, seduce the wearer, and romance the girdle into his possession.
Little is known about its powers, only that it can’t be taken by force, it must be given of its owners free will, or else the thief will lose his or her superpowers. The human wearer of the girdle, or belt, will get what he or she desires most. Be it adoration, a new job, everything. So now the belt belongs to Tracy Tannin, granddaughter of one of America’s most famous early moviestars. She does not have her grandmothers good looks though, or her ease with people. But she loves to work with animals, and at the moment she is working on a film set, as an animal trainer for her boss and good friend Mel. While sorting through her grandmothers clothes, figuring out what to keep and what to donate to the museum that asked for some of her things, she finds the belt. It looks real gold, but also kind of garish, but she has seen the movie her grandmother was wearing it in, at the start of her career. And perhaps, if she wears it, some good luck will rub of on her as well.
And so her life starts to change. A policeman who doesn’t give her a ticket for speeding, but asks for her phone number instead, the famous actor Leon who flirts with her, and now another gorgeous man who seems truly interested in her. And what about the director of the movie, why is he suddenly taking notice of her?
To pay her bills, Tracy needs to find a boarder for a part of the mansion she inherited from her grandmother. For Hale that is a perfect opportunity to be close to her. Especially when he discovers his evil uncle has send his minions after her already. And even more perfect is, when she needs a ferret for the movie, as their own trained pet has become pregnant and can’t perform anymore. Hale just happens to have some kind of familiar, and besides his other superpowers he can talk with animals. And Elmer sees it as the perfect opportunity to become a star ...
Tracy is a bit overwhelmed with all the male attention she suddenly receives, and when Leo is hot and cold towards her, depending on whether she wears the belt or not, she starts figuring things out on her own ...
What Hale does not count on, is that he is truly falling for Tracy. Surely is must be the belts’ magic? He does not even like humans! Well, his half sister Zoë is married to one, and he gets along with their friends, but that is it! And Tracy has been dreaming about him for ever, as his day job, is that of cover model for romance books ... But the belt does not work on superheroes that way, so can he deal with his feelings, or will he deny himself and Tracy a chance at true love?
This was a really fun story, and I really enjoyed reading it. I haven’t read much superheroes books yet, and it was a nice change for me. The scene where Tracy is in bed, fantasizing about Hale, and Hale is in her room being invisible, was very hot. The bad guy is the usual megalomaniac, “we are better than humans so we should rule them, not Protect them” and Hale’s uncle. His son Mordi is on the fence though, can they trust him, or does he have his own agenda? Perhaps I should have read the first book first, to get more of a grip on Zoë and her friends, and Mordi, and what happened before, but I couldn’t fit it on my shelves so I just started with this one.
If you are in the mood for something easy and fun to read, give this series a try. If you don’t like the whimsical cover, don’t worry, there are new covers made. I will certainly read the next book soon.
Aphrodite’s Passion by Julie Kenner Protectors/Superheros Series Book 2 (4th story) Hale has some issues with mortals. As a famous romance cover model he enjoys their attentions and he’ll protect them, but that’s as far as it goes. Well, until his sister Zoe went and married one. Now Taylor and his friends are mortals that Hale…..well he likes them…..against his will of course. So when he is assigned to find Aphrodite’s Girdle and has to get close to a mortal he figures he’ll do what he does best. He’ll seduce her, get the belt and be on his way. That was his plan anyways.
Tracy Tannin is far from famous like her grandmother was. In fact, she finds herself rather plain. When she finds an unfashionable belt her grandma left her, she starts wearing it for confidence and it seems to work. Suddenly men are giving her attention and asking her out. And mugging her. Her life takes a sudden turn and at least the handsome Hale is there to help her.
One of Hale’s superpowers is animalinguist, he can talk to animals. His constant companion is Elmer the ferret. The author does a remarkable job of bringing Elmer to life and he often steals the show with his thoughts and comments. This is actually the fourth story with some of the same characters. If you enjoy series you’ll want to start with The Cat’s Fancy, Aphrodite’s Kiss and Aphrodite’s Embrace. The next book in the series is Aphrodite’s Secret. **Sexual content http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
Hale doesn't like mortals. Oh sure, he'll sleep with the occasional beautiful woman and he tolerates his half-sister's husband and their friends just fine... but he doesn't like mortals. When his sister's mother found out that his father was a Protector (super-hero), she freaked out and rejected them both. Now he knows that mortals can't handle his secret (he's an animalinguist, he can speak to mammals and can be invisible and move really fast) and he doesn't want to have anything to do with them. Except that he has to. His newest mission is to rescue Aphrodite's girdle from Tracy Tannin. She inherited the belt from her grandmother, who was a famous movie star. Apparently, if a mortal wears the belt, s/he can get her hearts fondest desires. For Tracy, people get out of the way when she wants coffee, the barista remembers her orders, and all of a sudden, two men that she's attracted to seem very interested in her as well. That never happens. One is Leon, the star of the show where Tracy trains animals. The other is Hale, the famous romance cover model. Really? Okay, this book was published in 2002 so there are a couple of things that are a little dated. But if you can suspend your disbelief and remember when the book was written, it's a fun ride.
Aphrodite's Passion by Julie Kenner is the second story in the Superhero Series. Taking place about a year after the previous book, this novel stars Protector Hale and a new female character, Tracy Tannin. Hale's been in a funk. One his labido seems to be taking a vacation. And two he can't seem to actually get to take a vacation without being called in for a new assignment. Called into the Protector Headquarters both Hale and Zoe are assigned to locate Aphrodite's Girdle. Their only clue is that it was last in the possession of one Silent Movie Era actress Tallulah Tannin. Does Tallulah's granddaughter have have the belt? Can Hale protect her from his evil uncle's minions? Read to find out! Overall, it was a pretty cute romance novel. The Superhero series is fun and addictive. It combines elements of mythology with a present day world.
This was a really really disappointing follow up to the first book. Hale was kind of a disgusting hero. His disdain for mortals and just general issues led him to do some pretty awful things to the heroine. His background is not developed enough to make me feel sorry for him at all and even if it had it still wouldnt have ameliorated anything. The heroine was nice but also a little pathetic. Even after the shitty things men did to her she was totally cool with using the belt to make men fall at her feet...idk it just didn't jive with me. Though this one gave me some giggles it was nothing like the hilarity of the last. Nor was the romance really doing it for me because of the disconnect with characters themselves and between the characters and me. I wouldn't recommend this one but the first one was great and i'm curious about other stories so i would definitely try some of the others
Second in the Superhero Central paranormal romance series about the Greek gods and goddesses.
My Take Cute and funny. This go-round has Hale getting hooked up with a plain Jane, Tracy Tarrin. Tracy is the granddaughter of a Hollywood bombshell who bemoans her stick figure and unprepossessing face until she unexpectedly inherits an artifact from her grandmother. Turns out Granny had some naughty secrets…
The evil Hieronymous is after this artifact so it's Mori and Hale each bent on getting up close and personal with Tracy...seems there are some pretty stringent restrictions on just how a Protector can wrest the artifact away from a mortal.
Total escapist fare that is a crack up to read with a heartwarming cast of characters — straight from the Greek gods.

This is the second in Kenner's superhero series based on Greek mythologies. For anyone who immediately questions "superhero based on Greek mythology", take this off your I might consider reading this list immediately. For the rest of you, give it a try. Kenner picks up where she left off and gives us a great story about Hale who is a romance novel cover model by day (not kidding)and one of the Council's best superheros by night. He is assigned the task of recovering Aphrodite's girdle from a mortal in order to save the world. I can't figure out how Kenner takes this crazy concept and makes it into something with great lessons and that is oh so much fun to read. But, I am so glad she did. Looking forward to the next in the series.
This is the second book in the Time of your Life Series, Aphrodite's Passion, by Julie Kenner. I will say that I liked this book so much more than the first one. Yes there were still issues like that the fact that everything happened so quickly and was resolved even faster. I was left wondering how they got from point A to point C because I was sure the point be had been skipped completely. Tracy was adorable, and I liked how she brought Hale down a peg on his idea of Mortals. He really turned out to be okay despite I still think he had a issue with Mortals all but a select few. On to the next one but I'm not sure I know what this one is about.
Hale, a Protector with a dislike for humans, finds himself trailing after Tracy Tannin in an effort to retrieve Aphrodite's girdle before his duplicitous uncle does.
Hale is a dreamboat, but his issues are quite annoying. He takes forever to finally sort them out. Tracy is very matter-of-fact about everything and is a great realistic character.
Aphrodite's Girdle was missing and Hale is dispatched to retrieve it, however he couldn't take it, the woman who had it, Tracy Tannin, had to give it to him so he had to get close to her. So he finds himself attracted, and she finds herself attracted to him, but is his attraction because of the girdle?
Aphrodite's Girdle is missing, and Hale knows it will take all of his superpowers to retrieve it. The mortal who wears it--the plain Tracy Tannin--is now as irresistible to men as her grandmother, a goddess of the silver screen, once was. Every man wants her, including the immortal Hale, who wants to convince Tracy she is as desirable as he sees her.
I enjoyed this book as a light, funny, thrilling, romantic fantasy. The writing was much better in this second installment in the Protector's series - and by that I mean there were a lot less distractions from "Oh yea, He/She wanted him... blah blah blah" than in the first book. I'm invested in the characters... so... off to the third part I go!
All in all this was a fun read. I haven't read any of the others in this series and honestly, I am not likely too. Characters were fine and quirky. Many parts of the story were very cliche and predictable. I did find myself laughing in more than a few places so it kept my interest long enough to make it to the end of the book.
Second in the series and this one focuses on Hale, a Protector with a high level of disdain for mortals. It also features Elmer, a talking ferret who steals most of the scenes. In order to get an ancient artifact, Hale must persuade the human Tracy to give it to him. His plan is to seduce her for it but he's soon in over his head.
Cute story. Hale, a Protector, is anti-mortals, except for his sisters friends. He gets a mission to locate Aphrodite's Girdle and get it away from its owner. His plan is to seduce it away, but he ends up falling in love with her in the process.

This was a light entertaining read, which I enjoyed. Not your usual romance fare, as this one included Greek Gods/Godesses with super powers interacting with us mere mortals.
