Logan always takes the easy way out. After a night of drinking and driving he wakes up to find he has been involved in a senseless car accident and is dead. With the help of his guide, Wade, and the spirit of his grandmother, he realizes he has taken the wrong exit --he wasn't meant to die. His life had a purpose -- to save his sister -- but he took the easy way out and he failed. Now, before he can rest in peace, he has to try and save his sister from a future no child should face. He will only get one chance and he cannot afford to fail this time -- for Amyís sake and for his own.
By the time she hit Grade Four, Laura Langston knew she wanted to be a writer. So did the teachers. It was the persistent daydreaming and invisible friends that tipped them off. Since Laura grew up knowing no writers – and consequently didn’t know how to be one – she became a journalist instead. The trouble is, journalists are expected to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
But making stuff up is way more fun. So eventually Laura traded one notebook for another and today she writes books for tweens, teens, children and sometimes adults.

The book I read was Exit Point, written by Laura Langston. This book is a fan-fiction, but the way it is written, feels so real. It is a fan-fiction but the thoughts, ideas, and events are actually happening in the real world today. The book begins with Logan, the main character who is living between two worlds. The afterlife and with the living. It is difficult for Logan to understand that taking the easy way out is sometimes difficult. In his afterlife, he meets his grandmother Arlene, also known as Gran in the story and Wade who is supposed to lead him to complete his challenges and to make sure Logan leaves his afterlife safely. His mission was to help save her younger sister, Amy who is being molest by their uncle Herb. Herb threatens Amy not to tell anyone that he does disgusting things to her so she keeps it all to herself. She is scared and Logan knows because he can read her mind. In order to help Amy, he appears in Amy’s dream, telling her that she NEEDS to talk to someone about it. Even if Amy does tell her parents, they will not believe her because she is just “a kid”. The last thing he could do to help Amy is to appear in front of one living person and tell them to stop Herb from hurting Amy. No one will listen to Amy if she tells the truth, his mother is too depressed to think straight even if the situation between Amy an Herb does seem fishy, at the same time, his father is denying the fact that Herb is doing bad things to Amy. How will Logan convince one of them to help Amy? If you are interested or curious about how they will help Amy, you should totally check out this book. Knock yourself out and enjoy this short book written by Laura Langston called Exit Point. There was this one part where it left me curious, why Uncle Herb would do such disgusting things if he were known as a good man, pilot, father, and husband? I recommend anyone who is interested in young adult, and mystery books to read this book. It left me curious, but it also left me picturing possible things that could happen.
This book is one of the few books i enjoyed reading. Logan, the main character, just died in a car crash and is now floating between heaven and earth. Logan always takes the easy way out, but this time he was told that his little sister is in danger and that Logan must somehow reach out to her before it’s too late. I found this book interesting, not only because the content was good, but because it brought up a new perspective regarding the afterlife. I think this book is great for someone that has lost a family member because it is being told from Logans point of view, how he reacts to what has happened and how he is going to get through it. Usually when you look for books in this type of genre, the stories are told of how a person lost a family member and the guilt behind it, but this book is the exact opposite since the main character is willing to do everything he can, even something as small as tilting a glass of water just to get his family’s attention and know that he is present.
This book uses a mediocre type of english, so I recommend this book for people with a little bit of knowledge in order to fully understand the book.
Exit Point has been a book I could never forget. I originally read this book in 8th grade and still think of it now in college. The novel sticks with you as the people in it feel so real and raw. Logan is illustrated as the confused and impulsive teen, which makes it all seem real and scary. You would expect the protagonist to have a heroic nature to them- but he does not. Logan is as befuddled as the reader themselves, thus creating the immersive nature of the book. Truthfully, I wanted the ending to bring more justice, but just shedding light of his sister's situation gave peace to Logan and freedom to her.
Logan, the main character, wakes up to find himself stuck between the living world a heaven. He has just died in a car accident and is warned that someone is harming his sister. He must go back to the living world, unable to be seen or heard by anyone, to save his sister. Exit Point provides a great new perspective on what happens and where one goes after death. Not only does it deal with the afterlife, but with family coping with death, as well as being abused or knowing someone that is being abused
This is a great book to read and I highly recommend you to read it. It gives you a different perspective on life...well to me at least and I'm such an emotional person that I even cried while reading this book.
Logan wakes up in a dark room were and snakeskin man sits at the end of the bed. Logan talks to the man about where he is and what happens, but he says nothing it not in till his grandma shows up and explains what happen and what he did and what exits points mean. Exits points are when people die if you die earlier in life then you pick 1- 3 exits points. Logan finds out that he died in a car crash because he was trying to impress his girlfriend Hannah. After talking with wade(snakeskin dude) about what he should, what he wants to do, and what he needs to do, Logan has 2 options one go and live in the world of the living as a ghost, or go in front of the council, but before he can make a decision his grandma comes and tells him that he needs to stop Herb, his uncle from hurting his sister Amy. So Logan chooses to try and help stop Herb from hurting Amy, But it's harder then what he has ever done before. When Logan goes back to where wade and his grandma are, he learns that time goes by a lot faster when he's not in the world of the living. So 10 mins in the middle ground is like 3 months in the world of the living. Wade tells Logan that dead people can enter a person's mind if said person is thinking about you, so Logan goes into Amy's dream and that's where he tells her that Herb cant hurt her if she tells someone but she just runs off like it never happen. That morning Amy doesn't tell her parents anything. Herb gives Logan's parents a hotel room for a few nights so that Logan's parents can get some time away from the death of Logan. That's where Herds trying to get Amy, Logan is with Hannah trying to confront her but he cant do anything because he is dead. he sets off a ripple inside Hannah's head and it makes her go to Herb's house and get Amy. When Hannah gets to Herb's house she sees that only Herbs and Amys shoes were by the door,s she opens the door and calls for Amy, who then runs down the stairs with her shirt and skirt undone and Herb behind her pulling up his pants. Hannah calls Logan's father and she tells them what she saw and what had happened. Logan's father doesn't believe, an Amy is scared of Herb so she won't admit to what he did. Logan feels like he has lost and he cant win so gran(logans grandma) tells him about the council and what will happen so Logan spends a few days with the world of the living and when he goes back to the middle ground, wade and gran are waiting for him to return. When Logan gets back to the middle ground gran tells him that he can appear in front of one person only and then has to move on. Logan then goes to the world of the living and thinks about who he should appear in front of and when he goes back to the middle ground to ask Wade and gran for help. they tell him that he should appear in front of his dad. wade then goes to the world of the living at night when his father is all alone and everyone was asleep and he appeared in front of him and told him to look in Herbs backyard to look for a stuff animal because Herb scared Hannah with is so she wouldnt talk.

In the story "Exit Point" there is a 16-year-old boy named Logan who has a mother and a father and a younger sister name Amy. Logan gets into an argument with his dad about not wanting to do swim for his next year in school. He gets upset with his father and takes off in his fathers car. He made a bet with his friend to see how fast he could drive. Logan made a decision that cost him his life. Later on through out the story Logan is in between heaven and earth. He can see his family but can not talk to them in any way. He eventually founds out from his grandma that something horrible happens to his little sister Amy later on in the future, and that Logan needs to help her before it's to late and her life is ruined. Logan continues to try to signal to his family about the danger that his sister Amy is going through. The council in heaven gives Logan a chance to materialize in front of one person. He chooses his father and he somewhat convinces him what Amy is going through is true. Did Logan finally get his chance to save his little sister Amy?
Exit Point takes place in the modern era, and begins when a young man dies. Logan took the easy way out, he didn't want to face the struggle that would happen in the next few years of his life. Logan swears he must be alive. He can see people, and one of them speaks to him. Wade is Logan's "guide," who shows Logan the afterlife and what he could have had. Logan spends quite some time processing his death while Wade shows him how to create wind and enter people's thoughts and dreams. Something disgusting is going on in his family, and Logan would have stopped it during his life. Since he took the early exit point, he might have to find a way to fix problems from the afterlife.
This novel is extremely relatable and well-written. There are extremely dark themes at points, but it mainly covers grieving from all characters. Logan grieves the loss of, well, himself. Logan's family is constantly grieving the loss of him. Logan's girlfriend is also grieving his loss, which is really sad as we find out that they were supposed to get married and have children. The darkness of the novel is almost surprising on first read. The book also has a lot of strong themes on the afterlife.
I enjoyed this book a lot. I really liked how realistic it felt. It was almost as if the book accurately portrays the afterlife. It was really interesting to read about the afterlife in this universe and how it works. I would recommend this book to people who like to read shorter books. The book is really short.
By far my favourite book I read back in high school. I still remember every single scene and everything they happens in this book. It's a very interesting view on what it's like for someone who passed away but still trying to accomplish so much before they truly exit this world, a very short book but its 100% a page Turner
This book is very interesting. I liked this book. This book is full of suspense. The author is Laura Langston. The characters in this book surprise you at every turn of the page. The main character, Logan, is a naive and some people will say, he is a typical teenager. The minor characters are his grandma, his younger sister, his father, his mother, and his girlfriend Hannah. The other main character is the main character's guardian. The main character, Logan dies in a car crash because he was drinking and driving. He died at exit point two. Before he was born, he signed a contract saying that he will stay alive until he reached exit point five. He would have been eighty-one years old at exit point five. He became a ghost and could watch over anybody on earth. He decided to look over his family. He soon realizes that his little sister, who is in fourth grade, is being molested by his Uncle Herb. He tried communicating to his family telling them what is going on. This is a very hard thing to do because it takes much skill and practice to successfully communicate with the living. For the good he has been trying to do, the "council," gives him one time to materialize. The council is people who look over the ghosts and make sure they are trying to do good. He chooses to materialize in front of his dad. He hopes that his dad will listen to what he is saying and help is little sister. The dad listens to what his son is saying, and confronts his Uncle Herb. The uncle denies it all, however, the dad also confronts his sister and she tells what has been going on. Then Logan ascends to heaven and is in peace. In conclusion, I liked this book because it somewhat related to real life issues. The problems between Logan and his sister are problems that happen in the world today. I am glad that this book had a happy ending, but I think this is typical among most books and movies. I think that if you want to read a superb, short book, that you should definitely check out this book. I felt bad for Logan in this book because one bad decision changed his life forever. He feels guilty, because if he were alive he could help his sister in an easier way. This is a wake up call to some teenagers who do unwise things. Finally, this book could change the way people think of what happens after you die.

I was able to read EXIT POINT thanks to a student who shared his copy with me.
Logan is dead, although he isn't really sure at first. When he opens his eyes, he is surrounded by gray robed figures and swirling colors. He is being told that he was supposed to take Exit Point 5 but evidently took the easy way out at Exit Point 2. Exit Point 5 would have meant extending his life until 2066, however, his early departure ended things for him in 2004. Well, that's a bummer.
When he is visited by Gran, Logan realizes that he is indeed dead, but if this is heaven, things are definitely not what he expected. Gran and his personal guide to the afterlife, a guy named Wade, are quick to inform him that he has a mission to accomplish before he can completely cross over. His job is to save his sister Amy from a rat bastard and his plans to sexually abuse the nine year old. Unfortunately, it may be tricky since the rat bastard is none other than Logan's uncle Herb.
What follows for Logan is a crash course in learning how to make contact with the living. It is not as easy as one would think, but he knows Amy's safety depends on his ability to learn quickly.
Author Laura Langston takes readers on a fascinating adventure into the afterlife. Logan's ability to make contact with his loved ones will have readers thinking carefully about unexplained sensations and random memories they may experience involving their own lost loved ones. I will be thanking my student for generously sharing this quick read with me.
'Aight so all of y'all need to shush and listen up.
I may or may not be boasting here, but this book is around 130 pages and I finished it in about fifty minutes.
Anyway. Those fifty minutes were a roller coaster ride of emotion for me, lemme tell you. A story with a dead kid? Awesome, cool, okay. A story with a dead kid that realizes that he died earlier than planned for him, and now he has to somehow save his sister while he's practically a ghost?
Why haven't I heard of this sooner?
Yes, it is short, but the shortness doesn't hinder the pacing or anything too much. There's a deadline, that's a fact, and the writing does a good job with the pacing. There's a sense of time running out, and especially at the end, it definitely feels like time is running out as fast as the pages.
With the quick pacing, the amount of emotion that I felt for the characters that built up over that time was certainly surprising. I was cringing (the good cringe, if there is one, when things get real) at points, laughing, and dreading turning the page just in case the ending wasn't what I expected it to be even though I sped through it anyway.
Although it was a short read, it certainly impacted me a lot more than I expected it to. Even through some of the parts I actually expected to happen (as some parts you can expect ahead of time, probably), this book was fun to read and use as an excuse to stupidly waste time in study hall.
Thank you, my friend that knows I'm talking about you, for telling me about this.
Logan, the main character, wakes up to find himself stuck between the living world and heaven. He has just died in a car accident and is warned that someone is harming his sister. He must go back to the living world, unable to be seen or heard by anyone, to save his sister. The plot is one reason on why enjoyed reading this mysterious book. Another reason I enjoyed reading this was, it provides a great new perspective on what happens and where one goes after death. Not only does it deal with the afterlife, but with family coping with death. Also, this book dealt with being abused or knowing someone that is being abused. One part I found difficult was, how Logan must attempt to make contact with earth to complete his "secret mission". In the beginging of the story, i was confused on what Logan's mission was. Untill the charecters started talking about Logan's younger sister, and her eere conflict. The only realistic part in the book Exit Point, was the situation between Logan's sister, Amy, and her uncle. Today, there has been child abuse all around the world. I believe by reading this book, it shows how no matter what happens, you should always tell an adult or parent whats going on. The unrealistic part in my book, would be that there is five exit points during your life time. There for, you have five diffrent ways that you can die. I read this book beacuse the title and the of cover the book looked very intresting to me.
"Exit Point" is about a 16 year old teenage boy named Logan who takes exit point number two. This book was very interesting because it was Laura Langston's idea of what happens after one dies. She sees that everyone has many different opportunities in their life when they can die, it all depends if you want to. Logan was suppose to take exit point five, and die in his seventies, meaning he had four other near death experiences before then, but he took the second exit point and died in a car accident. I never really think about what happens after death, but this was an interesting look on life and death. This could be true, that when people have near-death experiences, they don't die because psychologically, they don't allow themselves too, but when people do die, it could be because they let it happen. Logan was stuck in between heaven and life and earth because he had to get a message across to his sister. This book was very similar to the movie "Lovely Bones". "Exit Point" was a short book, but it really made me think. I read it within two days, and normally it takes me two weeks to read a book. It was easy to read and it keep me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I feel that my reading level is much higher than this book, but the concept of the book was fascinating. I wasn't too thrilled with the ending because it left you guessing. I had to make up the ending, and just assume that whatever I wanted to happen in the end, happened.
I thought that the book was very interesting. it cought my attention because it was about a teenage boy that had died because he was tired of his life so he got drunk and got into the car killing himeself. However when he gets to like half way heaven he realizes that wasnt the best thing to do because his sister was in trouble. She was being sexually harrased by her uncle who has been doing this for about 5 months now but his sister refuses to say something about it shes too scared to. So Logan has to figure out a way to get in contact with his family (parents) to warn them about whats happening with his sister. He has been trying to get into his sisters dreams to tell her to tell their parents whats going on but she refuses to then he gets into his girlfirends dreams and she trys to save logans sister from her uncle. Logans girlfriend was what brought their attention to the situation and they suspecting things but they didnt believe her. Logan finally figures out a way to get into contact with his family but this choice was very riskiy because either way if it didnt work he would have to leave and never come back to earth again so his sister would never be saved but if huis father believes that its actually him he will get the chance to save his sisters klife but he will still never be able to return to earth he will have to go to the council and go to the other side.

"Exit Point" by Laura Langston is a compelling story continuation to Hannah's Touch, which is also by Laura Langston. Hannah's Touch was about Hannah's point of view on Logan's death of the car crash. But in "Exit Point" is about Logan's point of view on his journey in the afterlife. So the story talks about his life when he meets his grandmother in the afterlife and describes how he discovers that his little sister was being touched by their uncle. And he found out after he died in the car accident. He tries to stop and tell his sister to speak up and tell their parents but he can't do anything since he's already dead to them. They can't see him as well so when Langston stands next to them or even tell them something they won't be able to hear or see since he's not alive in the real world anymore. But there is still one chance to prevent what is going to happen to his sister. And Langston can tell what will happen since he could see it. He has one chance to make himself look alive in front of someone and warn them that his sister is in danger. Who does he choose? His father, who's the one who doesn't believe that the uncle who do such a thing to his daughter. But in the end, he chose to believe Langston and discovers if the situation is really true.
Laura Langston has written picture books and novels. She has always been fascinated with the concept of life after death and all things metaphysical. This is her first Orca Soundings. Laura lives in Victoria, British Columbia.

Exit Point is a book full of excitement, adventure, and mystery. This book that would want to make you read it continuously. The ending is a sad and at the same time good. This is a book that should be an everybody book. I give this book a thumbs up- 5 stars. This was the perfect book for me- to anyone.
A teen boy by the name of Logan was always good at knowing how to take the easy ways out of things. Until a night of partying leads him to something he can’t reverse, his death. As Logan headed home from a night of drinking he soon awoke to find out he had been in a brutal car accident. Confused and afraid he tries to make sense of everything with the help of his spiritual guide, that he had been dreaming about his whole life. I didn’t really enjoy this book very much because I am not a big fan of supernatural books, but if you are into supernatural books then you should definitely get this book. I did not hate this book because it is very interesting, but at the same time it drags on at parts. This book is full mysteries about the afterlife and where you go after death. If you are curious about God and all things above then you would enjoy “Exit Point.” Logan is afraid in the beginning because he still wants to be alive, but throughout the story he finds ways to cope with what has happened. Logan also finds out what heaven is and what it is like to be dead. I recommend this book to anyone that loves the afterlife and everything that involves the afterlife.
Imagine being in a place where you aren't really alive but you aren't really dead..well at least it seems that way. Thats what Exit Point by Laura Langston is based on. The main character is Logan.A teenager who passes away due to a car accident. When Logan passes away he is not in heaven or hell he is just simply floating around. He feels helpless when he sees all the troubles his family is going through and all he can do is sit back and watch them suffer. Until he get an opportunity that can change everything that his family if going through.
I actually really enjoyed this book because one Logan is around the same age as me and I could relate to his situation. Two because it is very interesting and short. It isn't too wordy or anything. I would recommend this book to anyone that is into dramas and anyone that needs to finish a book in a small amount of time maybe for an essay or project. It literally took me a day partially because it is a short book but also because it is interesting and once you pick it up you won't want to put it down.
Exit Point written by Lauren Langston, is a short story book, but really pulls you in with a boom! The novel is about a 16 year old boy named Logan, who dies from drunk driving, but before he can move on to heaven he has to help save his little sister Amy from being sexually abused by their Uncle Sam. In Spirit and with the help of Wade ( Logan's guardian angel), his grandma ( also in heaven), and Hannah ( his former girlfriend ), they work together to come to the rescue of Amy and kick Uncle Sam out the picture. I recommend this novel to other readers. I enjoyed it, mainly because it helped me think about the possibilities of what can occur during the after life. This book will really show you that anyone can make a difference no matter the consequences, look at Logan, he saved his little sister and he was dead the whole time.

It was not as exiting as most of the books i have read lately but it was not bad either. The book was based on a person learning a lesson of cause and effect, because he always took the easy way out of situations or even normal things in his life.I like how the author put a big challenged in front of the main character to show him what he was suppose to do and didn't do, but it all just goes back to one thing, because he always took the easy way out some one else would have to suffer for it.

The book, Exit Point, by Laura Langston, really related to me. This book connected to me the most. I felt the pain the main character was going through. I really wanted to go into the book and help the main character. The main charters name is Logan and he goes through dieing and seeing what has happened to his sister. He connected to the living. He always took the easy way out, that's why he ended up dead.
I would recommend this book to everyone because I believe that everyone can connect to this book. I almost had tears in my eyes when the book ended. I wish Logan would have not died, but of course, I cant change that. But whoever had a family member pass away, I think that this book is perfect for them to believe. I love this book and recommend this author's books to everyone.
I get why some kids like this book. As a matter of fact, I read it because it was recommended to me by a couple students. And, admittedly, it's a fast read (very fast, actually -- I read it in less than an hour on the plane coming home from D.C.) and it's compelling: Logan makes a tragically poor choice and winds up dead only to learn that his sister desperately needs his help. Luckily for Logan, he has a guide in the afterlife who can teach him how to right a few wrongs before moving on. Simple premise, simple writing, linear, non-complicated plot. For reluctant to read teens who claim to HATE books, or kids who are reading several grade levels below where they should be, this book will be that one they actually enjoy. For me, though, it needed 200 more pages and depth.
I think that this book was really good becaouse it talks about "death is only the beginning". What I think the author means by that is that maybe there's another life. Some people think that death is the end but its not. It probably continues but in another way.
In this book a car accident takes place and the person died, then it takes you were the person that had the accident was when she was in a coma. When the time had past I notice that the person that died in the car accident didn't actually die.
The person that the autor says that died in the car accident didn't actually die becaouse at the end she or him start's talking. I think that the person talking was not her but it was her spirit.

Logan is dead, barely dead, but after he watches his funeral he finds out how his death at 16 will change things for the people in his life, especially for his 9 year old sister Amy. Can Logan use the limited time he has left to influence to save her from the terrible things that will happen; are happening to her?
This is part of the Orca Soundings series; designed for High School students with lower reading levels, this low level, high interest title would also be ok on a middle school library shelf. Although it is a little sweary, and the topic is difficult, it is handled well. A gripping read from beginning to end.
