Toto is not in Kansas anymore - he is drifting out to sea! Who can rescue him? Great beach book!

Meet Anna and her dog Toto. She is going to take him out to the beach to teach him how to swim, of course on the dog’s skateboard. With black bold print and bright colorful pictures we follow Anna and Toto as they leave the house and travel to the beach. They pass a young cowboy in a lawn chair with his “very silly cowboy hat” and lasso as they make their way to the water. Toto being a smart dog learns quickly but a huge wave takes Toto out to sea and soon Anna is crying. Others come running to help, there is only one person on the beach who is able to bring the dog to safety. It’s a sweet book and I think there are a few great messages in the book. Definitely a keeper.

An excellent book to teach the importance of friendship and first impressions. A little girl takes her toy dog to the beach and sees a silly boy dressed up like a cowboy watching them. She doesn't give them a second glance. But when toto starts drifting out beyond her reach no one knows what to do. But the 'cowboy' does. He takes his lasso and saves Toto! And a friendship begins.

Might the story be better if Toto was a real dog and not a toy? The back cover states that "if you like to read , you will like this book" a promise that seems odd to me.

Anna and her dog Toto hit the beach for Toto's swimming lesson. There is a strange boy wearing a cowboy hat. When Toto is swept away by a big wave, the strange kid in the cowboy hat helps out.
The pictures are bright, colorful, chalk-type drawings and add to the story. The print is large and easy for beginning readers. There is one to two very short sentences per page.
The story itself is very simplistic and predictable, good for beginning readers. My six year old grandson told me it was too easy and he did not really enjoy it. His three year old brother liked the pictures and the cowboy. I thought the story was a bit choppy, but it may be because it is a translation of a German story.

Published in 2013 in Germany and now translated into English, this is a simple "I Like to Read" book about a young girl who takes her pull-along toy dog, Toto, to the ocean. There she dismisses a boy she sees, in a silly cowboy hat. When her beloved toy is carried out to sea, however, it is the boy and his lasso who save the day. This changes her original assessment of the boy. The text is quite simple, perfect for beginning readers. Big, bold, digital artwork will also attract the target audience. There are never enough easy-reader books, so this would make a nice addition to library collections.

Anna feels disdainful about a cowboy-hat wearing boy lounging on the beach. But when the tide takes her beloved dog Toto out to sea, she sees him in a different light when he uses his lasso to rescue the dog. I liked how the hat went from being silly to beautiful. Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder, after all. The digitally-created illustrations are colorful and show Anna's desperation quite clearly.

A little girl and her dog go to the beach. While there, the dog gets swept away by a giant wave and a boy stranger dressed as a cowboy comes to the rescue using his rope lasso to bring the dog back to shore.

This could be fun for a Toddler Tales. It doesn't really have a lot to do with cowboys tho, since the kids are on the beach. Cute story, though!
