How To Get Over Your Ex by Nikki Logan is a cute contemporary romance that actually took a bit of time building up the relationship within. Georgia Stone had thought for sure that her long time boyfriend would be ready for marriage so she signed up for a radio promotion to propose to him over the air.

Needless to say that proposal did not go well for Georgia and all she wanted to do was curl up and cry. Unfortunately for Georgia though she had signed a contract with the station and even with the proposal being a flop the producer, Zander Rush, was quick to remind Georgia of her contract.

After a bit of thinking on how to salvage the special that obviously wasn’t going to end in a wedding Zander proposed that Georgia share her life with the followers and her recovery from the break up. This began the Year of Georgia promo with Zander and Georgia reluctantly pushed together for the sake of ratings.

How To Get Over Your Ex was a nice little read with likable characters and a fun situation. The story actually unfolds more of a self discovery with Georgia spending time doing all sorts of fun events as part of the radio promo but with Zander always in tow representing the station. Lots of time to develop an attraction between the two instead of rushing them together like so many stories do.

How to Get over Your Ex was a super sweet book that I found great to unwind to after a long day at work. It’s one of those books where you can kind of predict what’s going to happen, but you don’t really care.

In How to Get over Your Ex we find ourselves in the typical situation where two characters are forced to work together. Georgia just made a fool of herself on the radio by proposing to her boyfriend in front of millions of listeners and he rejected her live on air! Georgia just wants to go home and hide away forever. But on the day she finds sympathy from the radio producer Zander, he helps her sneak out of the building and then offers her a proposition she can’t reject. He will offer her $50,000 to spend how she wants, if she allows them to film a follow up show with her; the life of Georgia. All about how she’s getting on afterwards.

Georgia initially starts finding things to do that will please the listeners; salsa classes, cooking classes. But as the months progress and she starts spending more time with Zander (who of course volunteered to be the person to attend and record everything Georgia does) Georgia realises she’s not being true to herself, and decides to make a spur of the moment decision to do what she wants to do.

It was a lot of fun watching the attraction grow between Zander and Georgia. No matter how many excuses Zander tried to come up with, it was obvious that they were just perfect for each other. Zander at times could be hugely infuriating always pushing Georgia away, but I supposed being burned badly once before did result in him holding back a lot. The way Georgia’s character grew in this book was hugely admirable, she was able to show the listeners of Eros station, that she could develop a happy fulfilling life without her ex Dan about. How to Get over your Ex was a super quick read, you can’t bear to part with Zander or Georgia until they both get what they truly deserve.

I recommend picking up this book if you’re looking for something light and fun to squeeze in between some heavy going reads.

Perhaps his cosmic role was now complete and the last twenty-four hours were just the most amazing swansong.'

Lessons on love and living are plentiful in a romance novel that teaches female readers the importance of self love.

True, this book projects the image of 'romantic' love - from its cutesy book cover, to its chick flick movie-worthy title. But looks can be deceiving. How To Get Over Your Ex should be re-named How To Stop Letting Men Rule Your Life, or, How To Start Living Your Life Anew. Either of those would better express the unique angle on romance this book has to offer.

Because, as this book points out, how can we begin to love others (and establish lasting relationships) without first knowing and loving who we are?

Our female protagonist starts off on rocky ground - unsure, loveless, saddened. And I'll admit, I thought the general storyline to be a little cheesy at first. But it gradually built up to become something much rawer than I expected. The female protagonist, Georgia, ends up realising who she is, and more importantly, what she wants. And in that typical NA/YA scene where the guy begs for her to give him a chance, Georgia shines. She stands up and refuses to back down. She had standards, dreams, desires. And she isn't letting him steamroller over her.

The ending was slightly predictable. But hey - I can appreciate a happy ending just as much as the next female! I'm just glad that Georgia got her happy ending on her own terms. She didn't cave. She didn't change herself to win the guy. She didn't wallow. She thrived and won what she wanted, how she wanted it.

So if you've got an ex book boyfriend (or, you know, a real ex boyfriend)...or you just want to experience a great book, I recommend taking a look at How To Get Over Your Ex. Hopefully you'll find it just as refreshing as I did :)

How does one get over an ex? By crying themselves to sleep? By stuffing their faces with chocolate? HOW TO GET OVER YOUR EX is one of the first titles from Harlequin’s new KISS line of cute contemporary romances. Think Sophie Kinsella, Marian Keyes, Jane Green, except shorter and quicker (but maybe not quite as swoony). The moment I heard about this new line, I knew that I was going to have to bite the bullet and try one. I am always hesitant to admit it, but contemporary cutesy romance remains one of my favorite genres. HOW TO GET OVER YOUR EX reminds me so fondly of some of my favorites.

After a Londoner finds herself scorned on radio after her proposal to her boyfriend ends in a big fat no, she settles for another plan – a year of reinvention, expenses paid for by the radio station. Dancing lessons, cooking classes, an adventure abroad, considering your past choices and beliefs… Yeah, one of those kind of years. But of course, this being a romantic comedy, she finds herself falling hard for the producer of the radio show where she ruined her life, despite her belief that a man as perfect as him would never fall for a girl like her – or that their relationship would be anything besides a big fat mistake.

Now, I have personally never proposed to a man on live radio only to be rejected and find myself the source for many a joke in London. But I think that I would react in much the same way as our heroine Georgia. Even if she was a bit…weird I guess is the word when it came to deciding to spring the question on her boyfriend, who had made it clear that he wasn’t interested in that kind of thing with her. Even after she was supposed to have moved on, what does she do? She goes right back to see him one last time, and this was the point where I was like, “Girl, are you serious?”

She was supposed to be getting over her ex, but she walked back. I think that this is a downside of what I’ve seen with the Harlequin KISS line – the titles and covers are all generic. Neither the title nor cover fit this book. THE YEAR OF GEORGIA would have been much more apt in my opinion.

But that was one of the few negatives I had with this one (also, the predictability, but this is contemporary romance). I loved Zander, our love interest, and his struggle to come to terms with how he feels about this awkward girl who has fallen into his life. And the progression of their friendship and eventual romance was heartwarming and cute (if a bit formulaic). This story was charming, quick, and adorable, giving me about an hour and a half of delicious reading before I swooned and turned off my Kindle.

With this being my first sample into the KISS line, I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. But this story did need a few tweaks. It was short, but for a story taking place over the course of a year, I didn’t see much in the way of depth or development. Likewise, I wish this had had a less generic title and cover – something that meant more to the story instead of having continuity with the line. I almost overlooked this one with its rather bland title.

If you are in the market for a cute romance set in London, or if you’re looking for a follow up to a Sophie Kinsella book, then give Nikki Logan a try. I can’t wait to try more from her and from the KISS line!

VERDICT: Although it suffers from the problem of being formulaic and short, HOW TO GET OVER YOUR EX is cute, charming, and deliciously romantic.

4 ½ Stars ~ Fighting back her tears of humiliation, Georgia's only goal is to sneak out of the radio station unseen. She'd just been utterly rejected on-air in the ears of millions of listeners. She's ever so grateful for the kindness of the man who joins her in the elevator and shields her from curious eyes and then helps her escape the building through the employee garage. Zander's on-air Valentine's Promotion took a turn no one had ever dreamed. The poor woman's marriage proposal had been rejected, a possibility no one had even considered. There went his ratings boosting project, and as Station Manager he had to think quick on how to use this PR surprise to their advantage. But while shielding her in the elevator, Zander couldn't help empathizing, he knew what public humiliation was all about. Somehow he'd have to make this a win-win for both the station and for Georgia. As she'd signed a contract for a year's promotion of her engagement in exchange for an all expenses paid wedding, Georgia knows she'll have to work with the radio station in some way. Zander's idea of using the year as some sort of make-over project intrigues her. Obviously something must be lacking in her for Dan to not accept her proposal and then gently let her down afterwards. He'd been crystal clear on-air that their relationship was only just fun. Agreeing to spend her free time for the next year with self-improvement courses she knows is the only solution for a win for the radio station, but she had only two stipulations; the station is to leave Dan out of everything, and the only person she'd allow to tale along with her would be Zander.

Bravo to Ms. Logan! The opening elevator scene just grabs the heart. I was immediately drawn to Georgia's bravery. While her hopes and dreams were dying inside of her, she held herself together. I wanted to hug Zander when he suggested she stand behind him so that she'd be blocked from view of the people outside the elevator doors. This year of self-improvement proves to be a year of learning for both Georgia and Zander. And as each event brings something new into Georgia's life, she comes to realize that she'd never really needing fixing. She's already a person she'd love to have as a friend. Zander sees in Georgia a love for life and he envies her. Suddenly, he can't avoid the emptiness of his life that he's always been able to ignore. The get-away in Turkey is incredibly vivid, not only for the chemistry between Zander and Georgia, but for descriptives of the landscape and atmosphere. This is a place I'd love to travel to. Ms. Logan wraps up this lovestory as riveting as she opened it. This HEA is definitely sigh worthy. This is one for the keeper shelf.

Georgia accepts a contract to propose to her boyfriend over the radio and they will cover the lead up and wedding for the next year. Her boyfriend refuses, and as Georgia is running out of the station in embarrassment, the manager of the station hides her and helps her out. Since there will be no wedding, the contract is changed to follow Georgia for the next year as she reinvents herself and overcomes her failed relationship. Zander follows her for a year while she travels, takes belly dancing lessons, amongst other things.

The writing is cute. It was a very easy and quick read. I just found it a bit lacking in depth. Georgia does grow a bit as a character, as does Zander, but there was just something missing. It was still a good, fluffy early summer read.

Good book. When Georgia's on-air proposal is rejected by her boyfriend, she flees the studio in humiliation. Then she finds out that she still needs to honor her contract with the radio station even though there is no wedding and honeymoon to cover. So the station manager, Zander, comes up with the idea of the Year of Georgia, where she takes that time to do the things she has always wanted to do and reinvent herself. I liked both Georgia and Zander. Georgia started out wondering what was so wrong with her that her boyfriend didn't want to take the next step with her. But when Zander came up with the idea of reinventing herself she didn't much care for that, not feeling that there was that much wrong with her. I liked the way that she started out by trying things that they thought she ought to try, but gained enough confidence in herself to start going after things she wanted to do. I liked the way that each adventure showed Georgia something else about herself that added to her emerging confidence. I also enjoyed the developing relationship with Zander. They started out very professional, but the more things they did together the more the lines blurred. Georgia also started to see past the walls that Zander kept up to keep people at a distance and to fall for the man behind those walls. I liked the way she started trying to get to him. Her belly dancing lesson was fantastic and I loved the description of what she did.

Zander was an interesting guy. I loved the empathy he showed Georgia immediately after the radio fiasco when he helped her get out of the building. Besides needing to save his job by rescuing the radio promotion he also wanted to help Georgia get through this experience. Having suffered a similar humiliation he had a great deal of sympathy for her. He coped by shutting down emotionally and not allowing anyone to get close to him. He works longs hours and spends his free time doing long distance running. He doesn't expect to find his time with Georgia starting to chip away at those walls. When Georgia shows up at one of his races he is stunned and doesn't know quite what to do. He also finds that his attraction to her gets a little out of hand which scares him into withdrawing again. He also finds that he can't forget the feelings she has stirred up, but is still afraid to risk himself again.

I loved seeing how, over the course of the year, both Georgia and Zander learned more about each other and themselves. I liked the fact that it was Georgia who had the courage to be the first to go after what she wanted and risk it all. I really loved Zander's big moment at the end and how he finally had the courage to go after what he really wanted.

Georgia Stone faces the ultimate humiliation when her live on-air radio proposal to her boyfriend is awkwardly turned down. After she flees the radio station building, station manager Zander Rush, whose promotion this was, feels the need to both salvage something publicity wise and also give something to Georgia. So he proposes that she take the $50,000 that would’ve gone towards her dream wedding and honeymoon and use it for the “Year of Georgia” – a year spent getting to know what she really wants out of life and doing things that she really wants to do.

Georgia is contracted to return to the radio station in one year and update listeners on her progress and she knows that they’re probably going to want more than just hearing how she moped around for the last year and didn’t leave her flat other than to work. Heck, she wants to hear more than that. Although Georgia has always played things safe, has always been the quiet, boring one, she slowly begins to warm to the idea of the Year of Georgia. Although she’s well aware that a year spent doing the things she wants to do, followed by a crew filming, is not going to result in a lot of things that are going to interest a lot of people, so she and Zander compromise, working out things that she wants to do that will also make good copy, getting listener interest. Georgia already has plenty of people out there cheering her on after her humiliation and there are many who genuinely care about what she’s doing with herself after being rejected.

With Zander by her side, Georgia undertakes gourmet cooking classes, salsa dancing, spy school, belly dancing and a dream trip to Turkey. But what could be her biggest thrill so far is discovering the attraction simmering between her and Zander that just begs to be fulfilled. But Zander isn’t the type who wants something more, something deep – he’s lived a life of distance ever since being hurt himself many years ago. And Georgia wants to be loved deeply, not just desired. And even though she knows Zander desires her, just as much as she does him, it seems like once again, she’s going to miss out on her happy ending.

I loved this book. From the opening scene, which is Georgia fleeing the radio station after her proposal was rejected, I was totally invested in her. I cannot even imagine how humiliating it must’ve been for her to do something that she wouldn’t normally do, step right out of her comfort zone and publicly propose to her boyfriend of over a year, only to have him refuse. The scene in the lift where she is trying so desperately not to cry until she’s at least out of the building, is heartbreaking. It’s made all the more uncomfortable by the fact that she’s not alone in the lift and the person with her gently assists her out of the carpark so she can leave without being seen.

That person is Zander Rush, who is sort of responsible for the mess that is now Georgia’s life. He also knows he has to answer to the people that fund the station who are less than impressed that their big promotion fizzled. The Year of Georgia is a great way to rescue that, plus get a woman back her shattered confidence and Zander gets to go along for the ride. Together they try a variety of different things and get to know each other and the chemistry between them is so good. The belly dancing scene is incredible – definite proof that a moment can be extremely sexy even when the two characters aren’t even touching or kissing. This book definitely had a slow burn but it was done amazingly well.

I really liked Georgia and I found it easy to relate to her even though we have nothing in common. Zander is extremely interesting as well, he’s a man who has worked very hard, punishing hours really and has material things but his life is not populated by people. He was humiliated in the past and now seeks a solitary, quite empty life. His time with Georgia spent doing the Year of Georgia begins to show him exactly what he’s missing out on, even though he’s very stubborn about wanting it! I think that the two of them worked so well together, their interactions were so amusing and enjoyable to read, almost as good as the chemistry they had and the sexual tension.

How To Get Over Your Ex is a little bit like a mixed bag of lollies where you keep pulling out a lolly that’s even better than the one you just had – it’s more than just a contemporary romance with a few laughs, it’s also a journey of self-discovery both for Georgia and Zander. They both have lessons to learn from spending time with each other and being along for the ride was such a fun read. This is the third Harlequin KISS title I’ve read now and it’s quite easily the one I’ve enjoyed the most. It was very different to what I expected going in and that turned out to be a good thing – it had more depth and more reflection and a greater character development. And I loved the ending!

Definitely going to read more books by Nikki Logan and soon.

I like Georgia so much. Her boyfriend turns down her on-air marriage proposal and, instead of being able to crawl into a dark cave for a few months, she has to get back on her feet in full view of the radio audience! It would be so easy for her to have a pity party but she doesn’t do that. The activities she chooses for her re-invention are things that she’s actually interested in and thinks she’ll have a good time doing. The only catch? Zander Rush. He’s the distractingly handsome radio station manager that set this whole thing up. He’s also the one who documents Georgia’s adventures by recording and interviewing her throughout it all. But Zander just might be biting off more than he can chew with our girl Georgia!

Yummy Zander! Right from the start, Zander feels a kinship with Georgia. It’s not pity, but Zander doesn’t quite know what to do about what he feels when he’s around her. Of course, it’s just easier to ignore the things he doesn’t understand, but aren’t all of our men like that, ladies? LOL, just kidding! Zander is a career-oriented guy and that isn’t always such a great thing. He’s essentially cut everything else out of his life so that he can focus on his career. That makes him difficult to like at the start of the book. You don’t really get to know him as a person but as an executive, and who likes executives, right? Although he comes off as this high-powered executive who has it all together, nothing could be further from the truth…other than the high-powered executive part!

Georgia and Zander kind of fit together in a weird way that somehow works. They see something in each other that they want to have in their own lives. Georgia sees someone who goes for what he wants and doesn’t apologize for wanting it. Zander sees someone that is honest and fresh and free. I guess, like in any great romance, these two people are not quite whole people and once they come together, they become whole.

I only had a couple of concerns about the book. First, you don’t love Zander right off. But don’t give up, he’ll get there! Then, in the middle of the book, the “does s/he, doesn’t s/he” got a little stale for me. You could see that they were crazy for each other, and I wished they would have realized it a little sooner.

Bottom Line
I really liked How To Get Over Your Ex. I think anyone who likes to travel and wants to be transported to England would like this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a romance that is a nice, slow simmer that ends in a great big boiling pot of love! :)

"How To Get Over Your Ex" by Nikki Logan is my first experience with Harlequin's new "Kiss" series, and so far so good! This one reads like a romantic comedy movie, and I'm hoping this will be a common theme for the "Kiss" books because it makes it fun. Nice balance of boy meets girl romance with the perfect about of tension and relationship issues.

The following may or may not contain spoilers.

Georgia is a normal London gal who is quirky and organized and somewhat private. Her family and sick friend persuade her to propose to her boyfriend Daniel on an on-air radio promotion, and well...DENIED! Humiliated she flees, but is rescued by the man behind the promotion: the dashing Zander (who of course has had similar heartbreak in his past as well). Zander and Georgia come up with a new radio plan: to cover the "Year of Georgia", where Georgia tries new experiences solo (ahem...with Zander) to discover and be happy with herself and share her fun with the radio listeners. There begins Georgia's adventures with belly dancing lessons, spy school, a dream vacation, and much more. But will her relationship with Zander be pure business, or is love in the air? (hmmm I wonder...der-dee-derrr).

Fun, zippy, quick and adorable read. Predictable of course, but what are you to expect with a book packaged like this in the Harlequin set under a series titled "Kiss"? Just fun. My only negative, which made me knock off the 5th star to make it 4 is some of the arguments between Georgia and Zander are somewhat repetitive, just in a different setting. I felt like each new argument brought nothing new to the table, just recapped everything in the previous arguments. But that is just a minor blunder.

The characters are relatable and cute, and I found myself rooting for them. The ending it super romantic, and those of you who like sudsy frothy goobery love stories will fall hook-line-and-sinker. You will probably read this in 2-3 days, so give it a whirl. A perfect bathtime read alongside a glass of wine and some candles! MMMM!

But then...I saw who is writing the sequel (Daniel's story) "The Guy To Be Seen With".....Fiona Harper. And I cringed. My first go at a Fiona Harper book ("Snowbound in the Earl's Castle") was an ABSOLUTE TRAINWRECK. It was nearly impossible to get through it. I hope she was just in a writer's slump, because I am eager to read Daniel's story. PLEASSEEEEEEE Fiona don't let me down again!

Alright, so starts my reading of the new line of books from Harlequin Kiss. To date, I've read two of the titles from Harlequin Kiss and I have to say that even though these books are pretty short, they don't read like short stories. They read like full length stories with all of the emotions and everything packed in.

This story follows Georgia and Zander as they go from class to class, from country to country and fall in love. Georgia proposes to her boyfriend Daniel on air as part of a Valentine's day promotion that Zander is producing for his radio station and when her boyfriend rejects her proposal, Georgia is devasted...and humiliated.

After Georgia walks out of the radio station, she plans to hide in her lab and work for the next two years until everything blows over. She plans to work at night and over the weekend so that she wouldn't have to see anyone or talk to anyone outside of her best friend, who just happens to be Daniel's sister. When she hears from Zander Rush, the producer of the radio station that she foolishly got swept along in, her initial instinct is to run far away from any offer he has but of course that doesn't happen.

She signs up for a year of Georgia with the money that they would have used on her wedding. She signs up for cooking classes, salsa classes and Zander's station covers the charges of all of this because they're tagging along on Georgia's new adventures to find herself, to find a new happiness and reporting on them on the station.

This was a quick read, one that I enjoyed. I liked getting to know both characters and I liked watching them grow closer together through their shared experiences in the classes and the struggle to keep things professional came off real and overall, this was a good story. I will definitely keep my eye out on more books by Nikki Logan.

📻 Novel terjemahan yang butuh lebih dari dua minggu untuk saya selesaikan. Barangkali memang kemampuan saya dalam menyelesaikan bacaan terjemahan memang lamban sehingga butuh seminggu bahkan lebih untuk dapat menyelesaikan satu novel terjemahan😩

📻 Meskipun kisah dalam novel ini bagi saya tergolong cukup umum namun penjabaran emosi dan pengalaman yang mendebarkan antara George dan Zander menjadi daya tarik tersendiri bagi novel romantis ini.

📻 Juga bagian akhir dari novel ini yang bagi saya melegakan sekaligus berhasil membuat saya tersenyum. Novel yang cocok bagi yang senang dengan novel romantis.

📻 Sedikit banyaknya novel ini juga memberikan gambaran terkait cara kerja stasiun radio didalam proses membuat konten untuk program radio.

📻Saya cukup menikmati proses yang dijalani George untuk dapat memeroleh pemahaman dengan penolakan yang dia alami sewaktu melamar Dan, orang yang dipikir George adalah calon pendamping hidup yang sesuai baginya.

Georgia Stone proposes marriage to her boyfriend of one year LIVE on a radio station.
What she doesn't anticipate is him saying NO. (Can you imagine that? LIVE on air with a no...??) She's devastated, of course.
She quickly exists the building through the elevator where she meets Zander Rush.

He helps her by helping her escape out of the building, unnoticed and humiliated.

What Georgia is unaware of is Zander is actually the one that had the idea of proposing LIVE on air through a Valentine's day radio promotion.

She signed a contract so the contract is binding.
This contract says Georgia and husband are supposed to come back in a year to give radio listeners an update on their life together.
50,000 dollars was to go to her and husband for the wedding and honeymoon.

Since there will be no wedding or honeymoon, Zander comes up with another idea of using the money.
Georgia is to have a year all to herself.
For her to do everything she's ever wanted to do but couldn't afford.

Zander has to attend the same classes and vacations as Georgia for him to document "The Year of Georgia" for the listeners.
He's there through everything.
They do everything from cooking classes to salsa dancing.

- My Review -
I thought it was brilliant for the female to be proposing marriage to the boyfriend and LIVE on a radio station.
I liked that storyline.
It was different than others I've read.

This book was just okay for me.

I thought Georgia was annoying.
In some parts, she was verging on stalker-ish to me.

I also didn't like the title of this book. I don't think it fit the book.

Just a 3 star for me. **Shrugs**

Once in a while, I like to indulge in cozy contemporary romances just to relax because they always leave me in a good mood. While How To Get Over Your Ex had an interesting and fun sounding premise, I didn't find myself being thoroughly enjoyed because for the most part I was bored out of my mind.

Georgia Stone proposes to her boyfriend on air only to have him reject his proposal. Humiliated, Georgia wants nothing to do with the string of paparazzi and the pity-stares of the public. Unfortunately for Georgia, she's still under contract with the radio. Zander Rush, the station's producer, asks her to be part of a show, The Year of Georgia, for which she has to go on different new adventures.

Personally, I thought the characters in this book were rather bland. I felt like they didn't have much of a personality. Plus, the dialogues between Georgia and Zander seemed forceful and didn't seem very realistic, at least to me. I also thought that they didn't have chemistry together. Whenever they would appear in a scene together, I didn't see that spark that should have been there, so in the end their romance didn't seem genuine enough to me. I expected more substance from the characters and the romance which unfortunately was absent from this book. The plot ,on the other hand. was fun though. I loved seeing Georgia going on those adventures and enjoying herself. This could have been a really entertaining read had the characters not been so lifeless.

Overall, I wasn't impressed by How To Get Over Your Ex, but that doesn't mean you won't be. If you're looking for something light and fun, then I suggest you give this book a try because you might enjoy it a lot more than I did!

I was looking for a fun, quick read - so I pulled up Netgalley to see what they had available, and How To Get Over Your Ex by Nikki Logan was one of the first HQN books that popped up. The cover was cute, and I had been wanting to give their new KISS line a try - so I jumped in! And I was pleasantly pleased with what I found!

Georgia is such a fun leading lady - she's just suffered the ultimate humiliation (She proposed on radio to her boyfriend of a year, and he said No!) and now she has a contract with the radio station to fulfill! Now, here's where the fun really comes in! They change her deal - instead of an all-expenses paid wedding? She gets a blank check to spend the year reinventing herself! (My mind IMMEDIATELY jumps to all the amazing things I'd do!)

Zander, the Station Manager reluctantly agrees to follow her along, since she refuses to deal with the rest of the station's staff. And he's been through heart break of his own, so he gets Georgia on a level that most people can only look on with sympathy.

Now, this book is everything I love about HQN reads, it's fast and predictable. (And sure, I was slightly bugged by the radio aspect, because I've lived in the world of Satellite Radio for nearly a decade now - thanks to my experience as a truck driver - so to me? I haven't listened to the radio in the car or at home for YEARS...) But if you're into the Series romance? And looking for a completely sweet contemporary read? Then How To Get Over Your Ex is perfect!!

Malu, sedih, dan desperate bikin Georgia langsung lari keluar dari stasiun radio itu dan ketemu sama Zander yang nolongin dia supaya nggak ketemu banyak orang yang tahu soal penolakan itu.

Pertemuan itu ternyata bukan pertemuan pertama dan terakhir untuk mereka berdua. Lewat program baru The Year of Georgia (yang harus mereka lakukan karena kontrak acara Georgia dan EROS radio ternyata untuk setahun sampai Georgia dan (harusnya) Daniel, menikah), mereka jadi deket dan mulai saling kenal.

Sekali lagi, Nikki Logan berhasil bikin aku nggak berhenti untuk baca bukunya.

Yang aku suka dari buku ini:
- Baik Zander maupun Georgia sama-sama punya inner conflict dan background story yang cukup well-developed.
- Karakter Zander dan Georgia sama-sama kuat.
- Pace ceritanya stabil, nggak kecepetan, nggak kelamaan.
- Perkembangan hubungan mereka oke banget. Pokoknya nggak yang terlalu satsetsatset, tapi juga nggak yang kelamaan nunggu mereka 'berkembang' sampai bosen.
- Karakter Georgia badass dan strong!!!! Me likey!

Yang kurang aku suka dari buku ini:
- Di awal sempet disinggung Georgia ngambil keputusan buat lamar Daniel tuh karena ibunya, tapi nggak diliatin ibunya tuh kayak apa sih.
- Georgia selalu nyebut hubungan Zander sama pegawainya, tapi nggak pernah dikasih gambaran yang sesungguhnya kayak apa. Akan lebih menarik kalau bagian ini dijadiin lebih 'showing' daripada 'telling'.

Overall, aku suka banget buku ini. Kayaknya aku akan selalu reread buku ini kalau pengen bacaan yang oke, hihihi.

Padahal pas baca sinopsisnya, konsep ceritanya udh bikin tertarik banget. Tapi eksekusinya malah biasa aja. Banyak kalimat dan informasi repetitif, ending ceritanya jg gak memuaskan sama sekali. Trus, ditambah lagi banyak pemilihan kata dan pengolahan kalimat terjemahan yang kurang nyaman dibaca, novelnya jadi makin bikin gak bersemangat.

I really wanted to love “How To Get Over Your Ex,” because Nikki told a good story and gave a great set-up premise, but I had such a hard time reading it, I can’t honestly give this book the five stars on the quality vote. I admit to going through some personal and family issues while reading this book and that may have colored my view. But what I do know is that it took me a long time to finally finish it. I’d pick it up and the words seemed confusing, the characters indefinable, so it took me a number of days to complete. For a short, formulaic contemporary romance book, this is not the norm.

I liked Georgia and Zander. I think Nikki characterized them perfectly. George is a warm-hearted woman who takes advantage of a radio station’s Valentine’s special offer to propose to her man on the air to 4 million listeners in London. This promotion is the result of AlekZander’s master plan. However, her proposal blows up in her face because her intended is a relationship-phobe, and she’s humiliated enough to flea the station. Just her luck, Zander himself steps into her elevator, and while not acknowledging what happened to her on the air, he helps her to flee.

Zander must fix this problem and as a businessman obsessed with his job, failure is not an option. So he devises a plan to reclaim Georgia’s dignity and her self-respect by launching a new promotion—The Year of George, a make-over adventure. But what they both discover through cooking class, salsa class and spy school, is a long, winding road to love. It is touted as a romantic comedy, but I never saw the comedy in the situations. I felt pain for both characters and eventual joy that they could weasel past their buried humiliation and pain to love and trust again.

Nikki’s internal monologue for each of her characters is good, but it’s a trifle too much. Explaining a character’s feelings in her head is a terrific way to instill in the reader their emotional state. But enough is enough. It made the kind of long paragraphs that a reader tends to gloss over to get to the meet—which is what I believe to be the dialogue, and the action of the book. That’s where the story moves. And Nikki had some really great scenes, but they were surrounded by a lot of long, descriptive, narrative paragraphs.

I don’t know if I didn't enjoy the book because I was confused all the time, or because the author was from the Perth, Western Australia and wrote about a couple from the UK. Some unique phrases and words were baffling to me, jerking me out the story. I’d never read some them before. There were mysterious phrases such as: “She lifted her curiosity to him,” or my favorite, “His eyes fell on her heavily.” It sounds like his eyes fell out of his head and landed on her. There wasn't a lot of care given to the beats between the dialogue and how it might be interpreted literally. Then there is the fact that I wondered what that really meant? Was it an expression from the UK or Australia that didn't translate well to American readers?

There were a few grammatical errors and misspellings. p. 88 “She got twice the smiles and extra free bread that Zander did.” Sounds more correct to me to say “than Zander did. Another problem was found on p. 95. “Not if they’re things you’ve always wanted to do.” Should be “there are things…” not “they’re thing.” Unless that’s also something foreign that I’m missing.

It bothered me that Nikki had this need to clarify every statement made during a conversation. It’s like she doesn't trust the readers to “get it.” I like to have an author let me guess what the emotion is behind the dialogue because the dialogue should be emotional charged. Instead, Nikki is “telling” me every thought or nuance in the character’s head and why they say what they said. Not necessary.

Especially telling was the love scene. Zander and Georgia have one terrific day in Cappadocia and cap it off with dinner and desert. But the desert is told to us instead of shown and in one very brief paragraph. I don’t know if the “KISS” Harlequin Brand demands that the love scenes be vague. But this was vague. Even though the brief love scene was “told” well, I felt cheated, let down.

I’m sure Nikki Logan is an excellent writer; I just didn’t feel it in this book. I picked up the book and had to re-read it and had to stop and study some of the passages and the meanings behind them and wonder if they are truly UK and Australian phrases.

Imagine feeling confident enough in your relationship to actually propose on air. Even as much I love my Hubby and know that he loves me, I never would have done it.

This seems to be poor Georgia's lot in life. Her boyfriend's sister convinces her to enter a contest at the local radio station to win a free wedding and the chance to propose on air on Valentine's Day. As luck would have it, she wins. Georgia not only proposed, but got turned down - with a long explanation as to why. Could it have been more humiliating?

This leaves the executive, Zander Rush, in a pickle. How can he possibly spin the disaster to not only save his job, but the contest. And, as if his day couldn't get any worse, he steps onto the elevator with the devastated young woman from the contest.

Knowing exactly how Georgia feels, he comes up with what he thinks is a fail-proof plan to help her get over her ex and fulfil the year long contract she signed with the station; and he plans to document the entire year! What follows is a story about finding out exactly who you are and what you love to do. How to Get Over Your Ex is also about finding love in unexpected places. It was everything you expect of a Harlequin Romance novel. It was light-hearted, fun, interesting, and had great characters. I loved the cover and thought it represented the book.

"We plan to keep you so busy you won't have time to wallow." Wallow? Anger rushed up and billowed under her coat. But she didn't let it out. Not directly. "Busy with what?" she gritted. "Makeovers. New clothes. Access to all the top clubs...You name it, we'll arrange it. EROS is making it our personal business to get you back on your feet. Total reinvention. And on your way to meeting Mr. Right." She stared at him, aghast. "Mr. Right?" "This is an opportunity to reinvent yourself and to find a new man to love." She just stared. There were no words.

"I'm going to take a year off life to just get back to who I really am. To avoid men altogether and just remember what I liked about being myself." The idea blew across her mind likes the leaves on the gravel path ahead of them. But it felt very right. "It will be the year of Georgia."

Georgia watched the woman walk away from her. Heels. They did something very special to a walk, even on gravel and grass. Pity she didn't have a single pair above a serviceable inch. Maybe that was something she could put on her Year of Georgia list. 'Learn to walk in heels.' And not because men liked them - though the distracted glances of two groundsmen passing the woman confirmed that they did - but because heels were a side of herself that she just never indulged. Heels and pole dancing. They could go on the sidelist she was quietly developing. Tough both could easily break her neck.

"I'm saying all the classes in the world aren't going to make your life better, because life isn't something you apply like make-up. It's something you grow and tend. Like a garden."

"What fills your life?" His answer was immediate. "Work. Running." The only two things he did. They couldn't both be gap fillers, surely? "What are you filling?" He stared. "A whole lot of empty."

"It's not stupid to want to spend your life with someone. It's brave."

The Year of Georgia was supposed to have taught her who she was. It was supposed to have given her a taste of what was possible and highlighted the deficiencies in her life. And it had worked. She was Georgia Stone. For better or for worse. Weirdly obsessed with plants, content to walk alone amongst Roman ruins, uninterested in cooking or wine appreciation or shoes, but a crack shot with a blankpistol and the fastest code-cracker the spy school had ever seen. Terrible at the contrived sexy steps of salsa but a natural at the private undulations of belly dancing. A decent rower but a terrible swimmer. She was a lab rat and a loyal and ethical employee.

Omigod! With Valentine's Day coming up, this was a 'must read.' I know we've all listened to radio stations where they've talked someone into doing something that concerned their significant other. Well, this radio station in London did just that when they held a contest for the wedding of a lifetime. All the winner had to do was propose – on air – to their unsuspecting partner.

When Georgia Stone won, she just knew her boyfriend, Dan, would accept her proposal. But when he turned her down – on air – live – she was shocked and humiliated, and looking for an inconspicuous escape from the station. On her way down in the elevator, it suddenly stops for a handsome, well-dressed man. She doesn't want to let him on, but is too embarrassed to make a scene. Moments later, when the elevator stops again, the man shields her from prying eyes and delivers her safely (and privately) into the parking garage so she can make her escape.

It turns out the man is Zander Rush, the station manager.

A number of years earlier, Zander was left standing at the altar to explain to all their guests that the bride had jilted him and flown off to parts unknown. Since that humiliation, he's kept everyone at arm's length, never allowing anyone to get close to his heart. So when Georgia's humiliated, he feels it as acutely as she, and sets out to make things right … and keep the station owner happy.

What he comes up with is, instead of spending £100,000 on a wedding and honeymoon, they'll spend it on Georgia. For a whole year, she'll get to remake herself into a new and better version – Georgia 2.0 – and every month they'll have a segment on air about her adventures. Reluctantly, Georgia agrees. On one condition. Since Zander protected her in the elevator, he's the only one she trusts to accompany her on these excursions.

At first they do things like cooking classes and dancing and makeovers, but then Georgia discovers that she actually likes Zander and enjoys his company. As the days and adventures pass, she realizes there's nothing wrong with Georgia 1.0, and tires of everyone trying to change her. Instead, she changes her itinerary to things she wants to do and enjoy.

To Zander's complete dismay, he likes Georgia 1.0 and doesn't want her to change, either, but he refuses to let his feelings show. Leave it to Georgia to pull his emotions out of him kicking and screaming until she finally gives up and calls the whole thing off.

Their adventures and experiences are funny and amazing and incredibly insightful, and the way they fall in love is off the charts. Poor, drab Georgia opens up a bright, colorful world to the wealthy Zander that he's never seen before.

The most touching scene, however, is at the end where she's doing her final on-air interview to talk about her adventures with listeners who call in. When one listener calls in, she recognizes his voice and is shocked that no one else in the studio does. It's Zander. And he's in the studio next door. His declaration of love is simply breathtaking in its simplicity. And when he turns on the light so she can see him … on the phone … through the glass wall, my heart just melted.

This is one of the best "feel good" stories I've ever read. A woman's journey to self-improvement that's stymied when she discovers there's nothing wrong with simply being herself, and not being afraid to live and enjoy life. Georgia's an incredibly gutsy person, and I admire her spirit and enthusiasm and most of all her capacity for love.

Fun, breezy read, perfect for the holiday break!

How To Get Over Your Ex is the first Kiss title that I picked up. I have read and enjoyed several of Nikki Logan’s books, so I was eager to dive into this one. The premise of being rejected on live radio intrigued me, and I wondered how Georgia would handle such a publically humiliating incident. When she puts her head down and runs, I couldn’t blame her. My gosh! How mortifying to learn how badly you’ve misread your relationship! While Georgia believed that she and her boyfriend Daniel were firmly on the path to marriage and contentment ever after, Daniel was just hanging out with her because it was convenient and because he didn’t love her or expect her to push for a commitment. Ouch!

I loved Zander’s reaction to the disaster he inadvertently allowed to happen. The radio producer is used to successful, high-rated programs, so when Georgia’s Valentine’s Day proposal is shot down like a lead balloon, he has to somehow salvage the promotion. He’s got advertisers to think of. With London taking sides after the rejection, he must quickly make Georgia more sympathetic. How could she not realize that her relationship was so shallow? Having been burned by love himself, Zander does his best to retain Georgia’s pride and keep his ratings. By proposing that she have a Year of Georgia, to discover who she really is, he entwines his life with hers for the next twelve months.

I loved the concept of having a year to discover who you really are. Georgia balks at the idea at first, not wanting anything else to do with her humiliating on-air segment. She thinks it’s a waste to spend the sum allocated by Zander on classes and exploring who she really is. She knows who she is! As she starts taking classes and meeting new people, Georgia discovers how little she does know about herself. She thought that she was happy, but she was just settling for the easiest, most convenient option. She has put her dreams on the back burner in favor of work, and now that she is confronted with all of these different situations, she realizes how close she came to selling herself short. Life is full of risk, but she was always taken the safest route.

I enjoyed How to Get Over Your Ex so much because I liked Georgia and Zander so much. The story is more about discovering who you are and then accepting that even if you chase your dreams, things aren’t always going to work out, but if you avoid taking chances, you will never have what truly makes you happy. Zander is dealing with an embarrassing relationship fiasco from his past which has kept him at arm’s length with his relationships, so it was fun to see how Georgia, using her fresh perspective on life, continue to try to win him over, regardless of how often he rejects her advances. I thought this was a different read for a Harlequin, focusing more on Georgia gaining some needed confidence before she attempts to tackle her tangled emotions for Zander. I am looking forward to reading Daniel’s side of things in Fiona Harper’s The Guy To Be Seen With next month.
