When her high school holds its annual madcap Genie Week, Kerrie becomes the "master" of the boy of her dreams. Mike Price makes her wishes his command as shy, studious Kerrie suddenly finds herself one-half of Glenwood High's wildest couple. But will Mike go back to doing gorgeous Marcy's bidding when Genie Week comes to an end? Maybe if Kerrie wishes hard enough, Mike will still be hers when the week is over.
The cover alone must be magic! Fun 1980s YA story about how a shy, bookish girl can steal someone else's boyfriend if she has more confidence and gets a home perm. At her school, during "Genie Week" the students can be auctioned off and then the genies have to obey their "master's" commands. Thank goodness they were supposed to be genies and not enslaved people.
"To go with the dress, Kerrie bought a lacy fringed shawl and a new lipstick--something called Midnight Madness." Tres chic!
This was experiment number 3--I bought four books I enjoyed as a teen and reread them to see if they held up as an adult. The plot on this one was cute. It is genie week for the juniors in high school. They auctioned off the most popular students and Kerry, a bookish girl with a crush on Mike Price, got a birthday gift from her best friends, Mike Price has her genie for the week. The week full of escapades were cute, but I wish Kerry were more confident. She sort of puts herself down for being smart and "not pretty" even though the reader can tell she is lovely based on the comments of everyone around her. She just has no confidence. It makes me sad that she would be so caught up on her exterior when her brain is rock solid. I guess that how is was for a girl in the 1980s. Luckily, Mike praises and admires her smartness, and it is no surprise he likes her, so I guess it all works out in the end.
